J-PARC neutrino beamline has been operated since 2009. Until May 2018, the maximum beam power achieved was ~500 kW. In future, the beam power will be upgraded to 1.3 MW. After the stable operation in late 2020s, we can accumulate ~30 x 10^20 POT data per year. It is almost the same number as total POT accumulated in recent 10 years. The upgrade plan of the Main Ring as well as the neutrino beamline is reported.
Upgrades to the J-PARC accelerators and the neutrino experimental facility are of vital importance to the Tokai to Hyper-Kamiokande project (T2HK), which aims to explore CP asymmetry by the $ν_e$ appearance. In this talk I present overview of the T2HK project, current status of the beam operation at J-PARC, and prospect to realize the rated 750 kW operation in coming years.
Japan Proton Accelerator Research Complex (J-PARC) aims at a MW-class proton accelerator facility. One of the promising solutions for increasing the beam power of the Main Ring (MR) is converters of the main magnets with new ones for this upgrade. We have a plan to replace and develop the power converters of main magnets for this upgrade. According to develop the new power converter. We have developed a new control system for the new power converters. This control system consists of four parts : the current measuring device, the feedback control system, the gate pulse generator and the slow co…
The monochromator beamline at the FLASH facility at DESY is the worldwide first XUV monochromator beamline operational on a free electron laser (FEL)source. Being a single-user machine, FLASH demands a high flexibility of the instrumentation to fulfil the needs of diverse experiments performed by a multidisciplinary user community. Thus, the beamline has not only been used for high-resolution spectroscopy that it was originally designed for, but also for pump-probe experiments controlling the temporal-spectral properties at moderate resolution, and as a filter for high harmonics of the FEL at …
In order to explore CP asymmetry in the lepton sector, a power upgrade to the neutrino experimental facility at J-PARC is a key requirement for both the Tokai to Kamioka (T2K) long-baseline neutrino oscillation experiment and a future project with Hyper-Kamiokande. Based on five years of operational experience, the facility has achieved stable operation with 230 kW beam power without significant problems on the beam-line apparatus. After successful maintenance works in 2013-2014 to replace all electromagnetic horns and a production target, the facility is now ready to accomodate a 750-kW-rated…

The J-PARC linac was consist of 324MHz low-β section and 972MHz high-β section. There is a total of 48 stations. And each station was equipped with an independent LLRF (Low-Level Radio Frequency) system to realize an accelerating field stability of $\pm1$% in amplitude and $\pm1$° in phase. For these llrf system, some of them, especially the 324MHz low-β section, had already been used for more than 10 years. Due to lack of supply, it had become more and more difficult to do the system maintain. And in the near future, the beam current of j-parc linac was planned to increase to 60mA. At that ti…
Significant deviation of the anomalous magnetic moment value (g-2) observed by the muon g-2 experiment should be confirmed by the other experiment. This value is experimentally determined by frequency difference observed by the g-2/EDM experiment and muon magnetic moment observed by the muonium hyperfine splitting experiment (MuHFS). Both two experiments are planned to be performed at H-line of the J-PARC/MUSE under construction. We optimized the beamline layout for each experiment with G4beamline. For both experiments, statistics is the most important, thus beamline transmission efficiency sh…
A laser-Compton backscattering beam, which we call a `Laser-Electron Photon' beam, was upgraded at the LEPS beamline of SPring-8. We accomplished the gains in backscattered photon beam intensities by factors of 1.5--1.8 with the injection of two adjacent laser beams or a higher power laser beam into the storage ring. The maximum energy of the photon beam was also extended from 2.4 GeV to 2.9 GeV with deep-ultraviolet lasers. The upgraded beams have been utilized for hadron photoproduction experiments at the LEPS beamline. Based on the developed methods, we plan the simultaneous injection of fo…
We report here on the recent upgrade of the TwinSol radioactive nuclear beam (RNB) facility at the University of Notre Dame. The new TriSol system includes a magnetic dipole to provide a second beamline and a third solenoid which acts to reduce the size of the radioactive beam on target.
The NOνA Experiment will construct a detector optimized for electron neutrino detection in the existing Neutrino at Main Injector (NuMI) beamline. This beamline is capable of operating at 400 kW of primary beam power and the upgrade will allow up to 700 kW. The cavities will operate at 53 MHz and three of them will be installed in the Recycler beamline. Thermal stability of the cavities is crucial since this affects the tuning. Results of finite element thermal and structural analysis involving the copper RF cavity will be presented.
The Long Baseline Neutrino Facility (LBNF) project will build a beamline located at Fermilab to create and aim an intense neutrino beam of appropriate energy range toward the DUNE detectors at the SURF facility in Lead, South Dakota. Neutrino production starts in the Target Station, which consists of a solid target, magnetic focusing horns, and the associated sub-systems and shielding infrastructure. Protons hit the target producing mesons which are then focused by the horns into a helium-filled decay pipe where they decay into muons and neutrinos. The target and horns are encased in actively …
The NOνA project will upgrade the existing Neutrino at Main Injector (NuMI) project beamline at Fermilab to accommodate beam power of 700 kW. The Medium Energy (ME) graphite target assembly is provided through an accord with the State Research Center of Russia Institute for High Energy Physics (IHEP) at Protvino, Russia. The effects of proton beam energy deposition within beamline components are considered as thermal stability of the target carrier assembly and alignment budget are critical operational issues. Results of finite element thermal and structural analysis involving the target carri…
In anticipation of the increased use of coherent x-ray methods and the need to upgrade beamlines to match improved source quality, we have characterized the coherence properties of the x-rays delivered by beamline 12ID-D at the Advanced Photon Source. We compare the measured x-ray divergence, beam size, brightness, and coherent flux at energies up to 26 keV to the calculated values from the undulator source, and evaluate the effects of beamline optics such as a mirror, monochromator, and compound refractive lenses. Diffraction patterns from slits as a function of slit width are analyzed using …
The Long Baseline Neutrino Experiment (LBNE) will utilize a beamline facility located at Fermilab to carry out a compelling research program in neutrino physics. The facility will aim a wide band beam of neutrinos toward a detector placed at the Sanford Underground Research Facility in South Dakota, about 1,300 km away. The main elements of the facility are a primary proton beamline and a neutrino beamline. The primary proton beam (60 -120 GeV) will be extracted from the MI-10 section of Fermilab's Main Injector. Neutrinos are produced after the protons hit a solid target and produce mesons wh…
The $μ$E4-LEM beamline at Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI, Switzerland) is a special muon beamline combining the hyprid type surface muon beamline $μ$E4 with the low energy muon facility (LEM) and delivers $μ^{+}$ with tunable energy up to 30 keV for low-energy muon spin rotation experiments (LE-$μ$SR). We investigate a possible upgrade scenario for the surface muon beamline $μ$E4 by replacing the last set of quadrupole triplet with a special solenoid to obtain 1.4 times original beam intensity on the LEM muon moderator target. In order to avoid the muon beam intensity loss at the LEM spectromete…
The readout electronics for the resonant beam position monitors (BPMs) in the Fermilab Switchyard (SY) have been upgraded, utilizing a low noise amplifier transition board and Fermilab designed digitizer boards. The stripline BPMs are estimated to have an average signal output of between -110 dBm and -80 dBm, with an estimated peak output of -70 dBm. The external resonant circuit is tuned to the SY machine frequency of 53.10348 MHz. Both the digitizer and transition boards have variable gain in order to accommodate the large dynamic range and irregularity of the resonant extraction spill. Thes…
We describe a future possible upgrade of the European XFEL consisting in the construction of an undulator beamline dedicated to life science experiments. The availability of free undulator tunnels at the European XFEL facility offers a unique opportunity to build a beamline optimized for coherent diffraction imaging of complex molecules, like proteins and other biologically interesting structures. Crucial parameters for such bio-imaging beamline are photon energy range, peak power, and pulse duration. Key component of the setup is the undulator source. The peak power is maximized in the photon…
The possibility of using electron beam phase space manipulations to support a free-electron laser accelerator design optimization has motivated our research. An on-going program demonstrating the exchange of transverse horizontal and longitudinal emittances at the Fermilab A0 photoinjector has benefited recently from the upgrade of several of the key diagnostics stations. Accurate measurements of these properties upstream and downstream of the exchanger beamline are needed. Improvements in the screen resolution term and reduced impact of the optical system's depth-of-focus by using YAG:Ce sing…
The Long Baseline Neutrino Experiment (LBNE) will utilize a neutrino beamline facility located at Fermilab to carry out a compelling research program in neutrino physics. The facility will aim a beam of neutrinos toward a detector placed at the Homestake Mine in South Dakota, about 1300 km away. The neutrinos are produced as follows: First, protons extracted from the MI-10 section of the Main Injector (60-120 GeV) hit a solid target above grade and produce mesons. Then, the charged mesons are focused by a set of focusing horns into a 250 m long decay pipe, towards the far detector. Finally, th…

The primary proton beam (60-120 GeV) will be extracted from the MI-10 section of Fermilab's Main Injector. Neutrinos will be produced when the protons interact with a solid target to produce mesons which will be subsequently focused by magnetic horns into a 194m long decay pipe where they d…
Fermilab has submitted two Snowmass whitepapers on a future 2.4~MW upgrade for DUNE/LBNF featuring a 2 GeV extension of the PIP-II linac and the construction of a new rapid-cycling-synchrotron. This paper summarizes the relationship between these two scenarios, emphasizing the commonalities and tracing the differences to their original design questions. In addition to a high-level summary of the two 2.4~MW upgrade scenarios, there is a brief discussion of staging, beamline capabilities, subsequent upgrades, and relevant R\&D. We are proposing a vigorous program to address various challenges as…
High energy and high beam power accelerators are extensively used for the neutrino physics research. At present, the leading operational facilities are the Fermilab Main Injector complex that delivers over 0.75 MW of 120 GeV protons on the neutrino target, and the J-PARC facility in Japan which recently approached 0.5 MW of the 30 GeV proton beam power. Here we present the status and planned upgrades of the Fermilab and J-PARC accelerators and proposals for the next generation accelerator-based facilities, their challenges and required and ongoing accelerator R&D programs aimed to address corr…
The Advanced Wakefield (AWAKE) Experiment is a proof-of-principle experiment demonstrating the acceleration of electron beams via proton-driven plasma wakefield acceleration. AWAKE Run 1 achieved acceleration of electron beams to 2 GeV and the intention for Run 2 is to build on these results by achieving acceleration to ~10 GeV with a higher beam quality. As part of the upgrade to Run 2, the existing proton and electron beamlines will be adapted and a second plasma cell and new 150 MeV electron beamline will be added. This new beamline will be required to inject electron bunches with micron-le…
Fermilab carries out an extensive program of accelerator-based high energy particle physics research at the Intensity Frontier that relies on the operation of 8 GeV and 120 GeV proton beamlines for a number of fixed target experiments. Routine operation with a world-record 700kW of average 120 GeV beam power on the neutrino target was achieved in 2017 as the result of the Proton Improvement Plan (PIP) upgrade. There are plans to further increase the power to 900 - 1000 kW. The next major upgrade of the FNAL accelerator complex, called PIP-II, is under development. It aims at 1.2MW beam power o…
