We study the subconvexity problem for $GL_{3}(R)$ $L$-functions in the t-aspect using integral representations by combining techniques employed by Michel-Venkatesh in their study of the corresponding problem for $GL_{2}$ with ideas from recent works of Munshi, Holowinsky-Nelson and Lin. Our main objective is to give - from the perspective of integral representations of $L$-functions and automorphic representation theory - a possible explanation of the origin of the "key identity" arising in the latter series of works.
We prove a subconvexity bound in the conductor aspect for $L(s,f,χ)$ where $f$ is a half integer weight modular form. This $L$-function has analytic continuation and functional equation, but no Euler product. Due to the lack of an Euler product, one does not expect a Riemann hypothesis for half integer weight modular forms. Nevertheless one may speculate a Lindelof-type hypothesis, and this current subconvexity result is an indication towards its truth.
Enumerating integral orbits in prehomogeneous vector spaces plays an important role in arithmetic statistics. We describe a method of proving subconvexity of the zeta function enumerating the integral orbits, illustrated by proving a subconvex estimate for the Shintani $ζ$ function enumerating class numbers of binary cubic forms.
In this paper we give quantitative local test vectors for Waldspurger's period integral (i.e., a toric period on $\text{GL}_2$) in new cases with joint ramifications. The construction involves minimal vectors, rather than newforms and their variants. This paper gives a uniform treatment for the matrix algebra and division algebra cases under mild assumptions, and establishes an explicit relation between the size of the local integral and the finite conductor $C(π\timesπ_{χ^{-1}})$. As an application, we combine the test vector results with the relative trace formula, and prove a hybrid type su…
From a spectral identity we obtain asymptotics with error term for the second integral moments of families of automorphic L-functions for GL(2) over an arbitrary number field according to twists by idele characters with arbitrary ramification at a fixed finite place. The power-saving in the error term breaks convexity at this non-archimedean place.
We investigate pairs of diagonal cubic equations with integral coefficients. For a class of such Diophantine systems with 11 or more variables, we are able to establish that the number of integral solutions in a large box is at least as large as the expected order of magnitude.
In this paper we generalized Venkatesh and Woodbury's work on the subconvexity bound of triple product L-function in level aspect, allowing joint ramifications, higher ramifications, general unitary central characters and general special values of local epsilon factors. In particular we derived a nice general formula for the local integrals whenever one of the representations has sufficiently higher level than the other two.
We prove a new (conditional) result towards the subconvexity problem for certain automorphic $L$-functions for $\mathrm{GL}_2 \times \mathrm{GL}_3$. This follows from the computation of new $\mathrm{SL}_2$-period integrals associated with newforms $f$ and $g$ of even weight and odd squarefree level. The same computations also lead to a central value formula for degree $6$ complex $L$-series of the form $L(f \otimes \mathrm{Ad}(g), s)$, extending previous work in arXiv:1804.02352.
Let $f$ be a fixed self-contragradient Hecke-Maass form for $SL(3,\mathbb Z)$, and $u$ an even Hecke-Maass form for $SL(2,\mathbb Z)$ with Laplace eigenvalue $1/4+k^2$, $k>0$. A subconvexity bound $O\big(k^{4/3+\varepsilon}\big)$ in the eigenvalue aspect is proved for the central value at $s=1/2$ of the Rankin-Selberg $L$-function $L(s,f\times u)$. Meanwhile, a subconvexity bound $O\big((1+|t|)^{2/3+\varepsilon}\big)$ in the $t$ aspect is proved for $L(1/2+it,f)$. These bounds improved corresponding subconvexity bounds proved by Xiaoqing Li (Annals of Mathematics, 2011). The main technique in …
When $\mathbf h\in \mathbb Z^3$, denote by $B(X;\mathbf h)$ the number of integral solutions to the system \[ \sum_{i=1}^6(x_i^j-y_i^j)=h_j\quad (1\le j\le 3), \] with $1\le x_i,y_i\le X$ $(1\le i\le 6)$. When $h_1\ne 0$ and appropriate local solubility conditions on $\mathbf h$ are met, we obtain an asymptotic formula for $B(X;\mathbf h)$, thereby establishing a subconvex local-global principle in the inhomogeneous cubic Vinogradov system. We obtain similar conclusions also when $h_1=0$, $h_2\ne 0$ and $X$ is sufficiently large in terms of $h_2$. Our arguments involve minor arc estimates goin…
When $k$ and $s$ are natural numbers and $\mathbf h\in \mathbb Z^k$, denote by $J_{s,k}(X;\mathbf h)$ the number of integral solutions of the system \[ \sum_{i=1}^s(x_i^j-y_i^j)=h_j\quad (1\le j\le k), \] with $1\le x_i,y_i\le X$. When $s<k(k+1)/2$ and $(h_1,\ldots ,h_{k-1})\ne {\mathbf 0}$, Brandes and Hughes have shown that $J_{s,k}(X;\mathbf h)=o(X^s)$. In this paper we improve on quantitative aspects of this result, and, subject to an extension of the main conjecture in Vinogradov's mean value theorem, we obtain an asymptotic formula for $J_{s,k}(X;\mathbf h)$ in the critical case $s=k(k+1…
Motohashi established an explicit identity between the fourth moment of the Riemann zeta function weighted by some test function and a spectral cubic moment of automorphic L-functions. By an entirely different method, we prove a generalization of this formula to a fourth moment of Dirichlet L-functions modulo q weighted by a non-archimedean test function. This establishes a new reciprocity formula. As an application, we obtain sharp upper bounds for the fourth moment twisted by the square of a Dirichlet polynomial of length q^{1/4}. An auxiliary result of independent interest is a sharp upper …
Let f be a classical holomorphic newform of level q and even weight k. We show that the pushforward to the full level modular curve of the mass of f equidistributes as qk -> infinity. This generalizes known results in the case that q is squarefree. We obtain a power savings in the rate of equidistribution as q becomes sufficiently "powerful" (far away from being squarefree), and in particular in the "depth aspect" as q traverses the powers of a fixed prime. We compare the difficulty of such equidistribution problems to that of corresponding subconvexity problems by deriving explicit extensions…
We state and investigate an integral analogue of the André-Oort conjecture (in integral models of Shimura varieties). We establish an instance of this conjecture: the case of a modular curve, as a scheme over Z. It is a scheme of dimension two and, already in this case, our conjecture is highly non-trivial. Our approach relies on equidistribution estimates related to subconvexity in analytic number theory and our result is unconditional.
We generalize Zagiers work on regularized integral to the singular case in the adelic setting. We develop necessary tools of treating various singular cases of regularized triple product formulas, which appear naturally in the work of Michel and Venkatsh on the subconvexity problem for $GL_2$.
A detailed study of a double integral representation of the Catalan's constant allows us to identify a duality identity for the Stieltjes transform on which it is based. This duality identity is then extended to an arbitrary dimensional integral and several special cases are deduced. On the way, we also highlight a relationship with some multivariate generalizations of the Riemann zeta function.
We present a new "integral=series" type identity of multiple zeta values, and show that this is equivalent in a suitable sense to the fundamental theorem of regularization. We conjecture that this identity is enough to describe all linear relations of multiple zeta values over Q. We also establish the regularization theorem for multiple zeta-star values, which too is equivalent to our new identity. A connection to Kawashima's relation is discussed as well.
Inspired by a famous formula of Ramanujan for odd zeta values, we prove an analogous formula involving the Hurwitz zeta function. We introduce a new integral kernel related to the Hurwitz zeta function, generalizing the integral kernel associated to Ramanujan's identity. We also derive several infinite families of identities analogous to Ramanujan's formula.
In this note, we use a basic identity, derived from the generalized doubling integrals of \cite{C-F-G-K1}, in order to explain the existence of various global Rankin-Selberg integrals for certain $L$-functions. To derive these global integrals, we use the identities relating Eisenstein series in \cite{G-S}, together with the process of exchanging roots. We concentrate on several well known examples, and explain how to obtain them from the basic identity. Using these ideas, we also show how to derive a new global integral.
We give three elementary proofs of a nice equality of definite integrals, which arises from the theory of bivariate hypergeometric functions, and has connections with irrationality proofs in number theory. We furthermore provide a generalization together with an equally elementary proof and discuss some consequences.
We give a new proof of a theorem of Zudilin that equates a very-well-poised hypergeometric series and a particular multiple integral. This integral generalizes integrals of Vasilenko and Vasilyev which were proposed as tools in the study of the arithmetic behaviour of values of the Riemann zeta function at integers. Our proof is based on limiting cases of a basic hypergeometric identity of Andrews.
Among the several proofs known for $\sum_{n=1}^\infty{1/n^2} = {π^2/6}$, the one by Beukers, Calabi, and Kolk involves the evaluation of $\,\int_0^1 {\int_0^1{1/(1-x^2 y^2) \, dx} \, dy}$. It starts by showing that this double integral is equivalent to $\frac34 \sum_{n=1}^\infty{1/n^2}$, and then a non-trivial \emph{trigonometric} change of variables is applied which transforms that integral into $\,{\int \int}_T \: 1 \; du \, dv$, where $T$ is a triangular domain whose area is simply ${π^2/8}$. Here in this note, I introduce a hyperbolic version of this change of variables and, by applying it…
We give a general identity relating Eisenstein series on general linear groups. We do it by constructing an Eisenstein series, attached to a maximal parabolic subgroup and a pair of representations, one cuspidal and the other a character, and express it in terms of a degenerate Eisenstein series. In the local fields analogue, we prove the convergence in a half plane of the local integrals, and their meromorphic continuation. In addition, we find that the unramified calculation gives the Godement-Jacquet zeta function. This realizes and generalizes the construction proposed by Ginzburg and Soud…
Closed-form evaluations of certain integrals of $J_{0}(ξ)$, the Bessel function of the first kind, have been crucial in the studies on the electromagnetic field of alternating current in a circuit with two groundings, as can be seen from the works of Fock and Bursian, Schermann etc. Koshliakov's generalization of one such integral, which contains $J_s(ξ)$ in the integrand, encompasses several important integrals in the literature including Sonine's integral. Here we derive an analogous integral identity where $J_{s}(ξ)$ is replaced by a kernel consisting of a combination of $J_{s}(ξ)$, $K_{s}(…
