The 2-locality problem of diameter-preserving maps between C(X)-spaces is addressed in this paper. For any compact Hausdorff space X with at least three points, we give an example of a 2-local diameter-preserving map on C(X) which is not linear. However, we show that for first countable compact Hausdorff spaces X and Y, every 2-local diameter-preserving map from C(X) to C(Y) is linear and surjective up to constants in some sense. This yields the 2-algebraic reflexivity of isometries with respect to the diameter norms on the quotient spaces.
We prove that if $X$ and $Y$ are first countable compact Hausdorff spaces, then the set of all diameter-preserving linear bijections from $C(X)$ to $C(Y)$ is algebraically reflexive.
The aim of this paper is to solve a linear preserver problem on the function algebra $C(X)$. We show that in case $X$ is a first countable compact Hausdorff space, every linear bijection $ϕ:C(X)\to C(X)$ having the property that $diam(ϕ(f)(X))=diam(f(X))$ $(f\in C(X))$ is of the form \[ ϕ(f)=τ\cdot f\circ φ+t(f)1 \qquad (f\in C(X)) \] where $τ$ is a complex number of modulus 1, $φ:X\to X$ is a homeomorphism and $t$ is a linear functional on $C(X)$.
In this paper, we show that the essentiality of the scole of an ideal B i a semi-simple Banach algebra A implies that any invertibility preserving isomorphism on A is a Jordan homomorphism. Specially ...
This paper considers homogeneous order preserving continuous maps on the normal cone of an ordered normed vector space. It is shown that certain operators of that kind which are not necessarily compact themselves but have a compact power have a positive eigenvector that is associated with the cone spectral radius. We also derive conditions for the existence of homogeneous order preserving eigenfunctionals. Our results are illustrated in a model for spatially distributed two-sex populations.
Let $C(X,E)$ be the linear space of all continuous functions on a compact Hausdorff space $X$ with values in a locally convex space $E$. We characterize maps $T:C(X,E)\to C(Y,E)$ which satisfy $\mathrm{Ran}(TF-TG)\subset\mathrm{Ran}(F-G)$ for all $F,G\in C(X,E)$.
We give an example of a unital commutative complex Banach algebra having a normalized state which is not a spectral state and admitting an extreme normalized state which is not multiplicative. This disproves two results by Golfarshchi and Khalilzadeh.
Let $A$ and $B$ be unital semi-simple commutative Banach algebras. In this paper we study two-variable polynomials $p$ which satisfy the following property: a map $T$ from $A$ onto $B$ such that the equality \[ σ(p(Tf,Tg))=σ(p(f,g)), \quad f,g \in A \] holds is an algebra isomorphism.
Let B(X) be the algebra of all bounded linear operators on a complex Banach space X with dim X greater than 3. In this paper, we characterize the forms of surjective linear maps on B(X) which preserve the dimension of the vector space containing of all fixed points of operators, whenever X is a fifinite dimensional Banach space. Moreover, we characterize the forms of linear maps on B(X) which preserve the vector space containing of all fixed points of operators.
In this paper we consider the cone of all positive, bounded operators acting on an infinite dimensional, complex Hilbert space, and examine bijective maps that preserve absolute continuity in both directions. It turns out that these maps are exactly those that preserve singularity in both directions. Moreover, in some weak sense, such maps are always induced by bounded, invertible, linear- or conjugate linear operators of the underlying Hilbert space. Our result gives a possible generalization of a recent theorem of Molnar which characterizes maps on the positive cone that preserve the Lebesgu…
For metric spaces $X$ and $Y$, normed spaces $E$ and $F$, and certain subspaces $A(X,E)$ and $A(Y,F)$ of vector-valued continuous functions, we obtain a complete characterization of linear and bijective maps $T:A(X,E)\to A(Y,F)$ preserving common zeros, that is, maps satisfying the property \setcounter{equation}{15} \label{dub} Z(f)\cap Z(g)\neq \emptyset \Longleftrightarrow Z(Tf)\cap Z(Tg)\neq \emptyset for any $f,g\in A(X,E)$, where $Z(f)=\{x\in X:f(x)=0\}$. Moreover, we provide some examples of subspaces for which the automatic continuity of linear bijections having the property (\ref{dub})…

Let $X$ be a complex Banach space with $\dim X\geq3$ and $B(X)$ the algebra of all bounded linear operators on $X$. Suppose $ϕ:B(X)\longrightarrow B(X)$ is a surjective map satisfying the following property: $Fix(AB)=Fix(ϕ(A)ϕ(B)), (A, B\in B(X))$. Then the form of $ϕ$ is characterized, where $Fix(T)$ is the set of all fixed points of an operator $T$.
Let $A$ and $B$ be unital semisimple commutative Banach algebras and $T$ a map from the invertible group $A^{-1}$ onto $B^{-1}$. Linearity and multiplicativity of the map are not assumed. We consider the hypotheses on $T$: (1) $σ(TfTg)=σ(fg)$; (2) $σ_π(TfTg-α)\cap σ_π(fg-α)\ne \emptyset$; (3) $\mathrm{r} (TfTg-α)=\mathrm{r}(fg-α)$ hold for some non-zero complex number $α$ and for every $f, g\in A^{-1}$, where $σ(\cdot)$ (resp. $σ_π(\cdot)$) denotes the (resp. peripheral) spectrum and $\rr(\cdot)$ denotes the spectral radius. Under each of the hypotheses we show representations for $T$ and unde…
We provide a characterisation of Schur multiplicative maps on both finite and infinite dimensional matrix spaces, and show that every surjective Schur multiplicative contraction is automatically an isometry. We also generalise this result and provide a characterisation of Schur null preserving maps on $m\times n$ matrices and on Schur multipliers.
Let X and Y be Banach spaces with dim X greater than 3. Let A and B be standard operator algebras on X and Y. We characterize the form of maps from A onto B such that completely preserve involution.
Linear maps preserving pure states of a quantum system of any dimension are characterized. This is then used to establish a structure theorem for linear maps that preserve separable pure states in multipartite systems. As an application, a characterization of separable pure state preserving affine maps is obtained.
Let $\mathcal{A}$ and $\mathcal{B}$ be standard operator algebras on Banach spaces $\mathcal{X}$ and $\mathcal{Y}$, respectively. In this paper, we show that every bijection completely preserving quadratic operators from $\mathcal{A}$ onto $\mathcal{B}$ is either an isomorphism or (in the complex case) a conjugate isomorphism.
We define upper bound and lower bounds for order-preserving homogeneous of degree one maps on a proper closed cone in $\R^n$ in terms of the cone spectral radius. We also define weak upper and lower bounds for these maps. For a proper closed cone $C \subset \R^n$, we prove that any order-preserving homogeneous of degree one map $f: \inter C \rightarrow \inter C$ has a lower bound. If $C$ is polyhedral, we prove that the map $f$ has a weak upper bound. We give examples of weak upper bounds for certain order-preserving homogeneous of degree one maps defined on the interior of $\R^n_+$.
Let H be a complex Hilbert space, B(H) and S(H) be the spaces of all bounded operators and all self-adjoint operators on H, respectively. We give the concrete forms of the maps on B(H) and also S(H) which preserve the spectrum of certain products of operators.
We consider bijective maps $ϕ$ on the full operator algebra $\mathcal{B}(\mathcal{H})$ of an infinite dimensional Hilbert space with the property that, for every $A,B,X\in \mathcal{B}(\mathcal{H})$, $X$ is the Douglas solution of the equation $A=BX$ if and only if $Y=ϕ(X)$ is the Douglas solution of the equation $ϕ(A)=ϕ(B)Y$. We prove that those maps are implemented by a unitary or anti-unitary map $U$, i.e., $ϕ(A)=UAU^*$.
In this paper we determine all the bijective linear maps on the space of bounded observables which preserve a fixed moment or the variance. Nonlinear versions of the corresponding results are also presented.
Let H and K be infinite dimensional Hilbert spaces, while B(H) and B(K) denote the algebras of all linear bounded operators on H and K, respectively. We characterize the forms of additive mappings from B(H) into B(K) that preserve the nonzero idempotency of either Jordan products of operators or usual products of operators in both directions.
In this paper we consider power means of positive Hilbert space operators both in the conventional and in the Kubo-Ando senses. We describe the corresponding isomorphisms (bijective transformations respecting those means as binary operations) on positive definite cones and on positive semidefinite cones in operator algebras. We also investigate the question when those two sorts of power means can be transformed into each other.
In this paper we characterize the surjective linear variation norm isometries on JB-algebras. Variation norm isometries are precisely the maps that preserve the maximal deviation, the quantum analogue of the standard deviation, which plays an important role in quantum statistics. Consequently, we characterize the Hilbert's metric isometries on cones in JB-algebras.
In this paper we determine those bijective maps of the set of all positive definite $n\times n$ complex matrices which preserve a given Bregman divergence corresponding to a differentiable convex function that satisfies certain conditions. We cover the cases of the most important Bregman divergences and present the precise structure of the mentioned transformations. Similar results concerning Jensen divergences and their preservers are also given.
Several notions of spectral radius arise in the study of nonlinear order-preserving positively homogeneous self-maps of cones in Banach spaces. We give conditions that guarantee that all these notions lead to the same value. In particular, we give a Collatz-Wielandt type formula, which characterizes the growth rate of the orbits in terms of eigenvectors in the closed cone or super-eigenvectors in the interior of the cone. This characterization holds when the cone is normal and when a quasi-compactness condition, involving an essential spectral radius defined in terms of $k$-set-contractions, i…
We describe the structure of the bijective transformations on the set of density operators which preserve the Bregman $f$-divergence for an arbitrary differentiable strictly convex function $f.$ Furthermore, we determine the preservers of the Jensen $f$-divergence in the case when the generating function $f$ belongs to a recently introduced function class called Matrix Entropy Class.
Suppose $X$ is a compact Hausdorff space. In terms of topolocical properties of $X$, we find topological conditions on $X$ that are equivalent to each of the following: 1. every additive local multiplication on $C\left( X\right) $ is a multiplication, 2. every additive local multiplication on $C_{R}\left( X\right) $ is a multiplication, and 3. every additive map on $C\left( X\right) $ that is zero-preserving (i.e., $f\left( x\right) =0$ implies $\left( Tf\right) \left( x\right) =0$) has the form $T\left( f\right) =T\left( 1\right) \operatorname{Re}f+T\left( i\right) \operatorname{Im}f$.
We describe the structure of all bijective maps on the cone of positive definite operators acting on a finite and at least two-dimensional complex Hilbert space which preserve the quantum $χ_α^2$-divergence for some $α\in [0,1]$. We prove that any such transformation is necessarily implemented by either a unitary or an antiunitary operator. Similar results concerning maps on the cone of positive semidefinite operators as well as on the set of all density operators are also derived.
We determine the structure of all bijections on the cone of positive semidefinite operators which preserve the quantum $f$-divergence for an arbitrary strictly convex function $f$ defined on the positive halfline. It turns out that any such transformation is implemented by either a unitary or an antiunitary operator.
We prove the linearity and injectivity of two maps $ϕ_1$ and $ϕ_2$ on certain subsets of $M_n$ that satisfy $\operatorname{tr}(ϕ_1(A)ϕ_2(B))=\operatorname{tr}(AB)$. We apply it to characterize maps $ϕ_i:\mathcal{S}\to \mathcal{S}$ ($i=1, \ldots, m$) satisfying $$\operatorname{tr} (ϕ_1(A_1)\cdots ϕ_m(A_m))=\operatorname{tr} (A_1\cdots A_m)$$ in which $\mathcal{S}$ is the set of $n$-by-$n$ general, Hermitian, or symmetric matrices for $m\ge 3$, or positive definite or diagonal matrices for $m\ge 2$. The real versions are also given.
