Raynaud and Gruson developed the theory of blowing-up an algebraic variety $X$ along a coherent sheaf $M$ in the sense that there exists a blow-up $X'$ of $X$ such that the "strict transform" of $M$ is flat over $X'$ and the blow-up satisfies an universal (minimality) property. However, not much is known about the singularities of the blow-up. In this article, we prove that if $X$ is a normal surface singularity and $M$ is a reflexive $\mathcal{O}_{X}$-module, then such a blow-up arises naturally from the theory of McKay correspondence. We show that the normalization of the blow-up of Raynaud and Gruson is obtained by a resolution of $X$ such that the full sheaf $\mathcal{M}$ associated to $M$ (i.e., the reflexive hull of the pull-back of $M$) is globally generated and then contracting all the components of the exceptional divisor not intersecting the first Chern class of $\mathcal{M}$. Moreover, we prove that if $X$ is Gorenstein and $M$ is special in the sense of Wunram and Riemenschneider (generalized in a previous work by Bobadilla and the author), then the blow-up of Raynaud and Gruson is normal. Finally, we use the theory of matrix factorization developed by Eisenbud, to give concrete examples of such blow-ups.
Using Altmann-Hausen-Suss description of $\mathbb{T}$-varieties via divisorial fans and Kóvacs-Schwede-Smith characterization of Du Bois singularities, we study Cohen-Macaulay Du Bois $\mathbb{T}$-singularities of complexity one. We exhibit cohomological criteria for a $\mathbb{T}$-variety to be Cohen-Macaulay and Du Bois in terms of polyhedral divisors. We give an example of a Cohen-Macaulay Du Bois singularity of complexity one which does not have rational singularities.
We study the Tate resolutions and the maximal Cohen-Macaulay approximations of Cohen-Macaulay modules over Gorenstein rings. One consequence is an extension of a well-known result about linkage of complete intersections.
We study properties of graded maximal Cohen-Macaulay modules over an N-graded locally finite, Auslander Gorenstein, and Cohen-Macaulay algebra of dimension two. As a consequence, we extend a part of McKay correspondence in dimension two to a more general setting.
We prove a Cohen-Macaulay version of a result by Avramov-Golod and Frankild-Jørgensen about Gorenstein rings, showing that if a noetherian ring $A$ is Cohen-Macaulay, and $a_1,\dots,a_n$ is any sequence of elements in $A$, then the Koszul complex $K(A;a_1,\dots,a_n)$ is a Cohen-Macaulay DG-ring. We further generalize this result, showing that it also holds for commutative DG-rings. In the process of proving this, we develop a new technique to study the dimension theory of a noetherian ring $A$, by finding a Cohen-Macaulay DG-ring $B$ such that $\mathrm{H}^0(B) = A$, and using the Cohen-Macaula…
In this article, we compute Betti numbers for a Cohen-Macaulay tangent cone of a monomial curve in the affine $4$-space corresponding to a pseudo symmetric numerical semigroup. As a byproduct, we also show that for these semigroups, being of homogeneous type and homogeneous are equivalent properties.
By extending some basic results of Grothendieck and Foxby about local cohomology to commutative DG-rings, we prove new amplitude inequalities about finite DG-modules of finite injective dimension over commutative local DG-rings, complementing results of Jørgensen and resolving a recent conjecture of Minamoto. When these inequalities are equalities, we arrive to the notion of a local-Cohen-Macaulay DG-ring. We make a detailed study of this notion, showing that much of the classical theory of Cohen-Macaulay rings and modules can be generalized to the derived setting, and that there are many natu…
To reduce to resolving Cohen-Macaulay singularities, Faltings initiated the program of "Macaulayfying" a given Noetherian scheme $X$. For a wide class of $X$, Kawasaki built the sought Cohen-Macaulay modifications, with a crucial drawback that his blowups did not preserve the locus $\mathrm{CM}(X) \subset X$ where $X$ is already Cohen-Macaulay. We extend Kawasaki's methods to show that every quasi-excellent, Noetherian scheme $X$ has a Cohen-Macaulay $\widetilde{X}$ with a proper map $\widetilde{X} \rightarrow X$ that is an isomorphism over $\mathrm{CM}(X)$. This completes Faltings' program, r…
This is a survey on recent developments in Cohen-Macaulay representations via tilting and cluster tilting theory. We explain triangle equivalences between the singularity categories of Gorenstein rings and the derived (or cluster) categories of finite dimensional algebras.
