In this thesis we define the notion of a locally stratified space. Locally stratified spaces are particular kinds of streams and d-spaces which are locally modelled on stratified spaces. We construct a locally presentable and cartesian closed category of locally stratified spaces that admits an adjunction with the category of simplicial sets. Moreover, we show that the full subcategory spanned by locally stratified spaces whose associated simplicial set is a quasicategory has the structure of a category with fibrant objects. We define the fundamental category of a locally stratified space and show that the canonical functor from the fundamental category of a simplicial set to the fundamental category of its realisation is essentially surjective. We show that such a functor sends split monomorphisms to isomorphisms, in particular we show that it is not necessarily an equivalence of categories. On the other hand, we show that the fundamental category of the realisation of the simplicial circle is equivalent to the monoid of the natural numbers. To conclude, we define left covers of locally stratified spaces and we show that, under suitable assumptions, the category of representations of the fundamental category of a simplicial set is equivalent to the category of left covers over its realisation.
We prove the existence of a model structure on the category of stratified simplicial sets whose fibrant objects are precisely $n$-complicial sets, which are a proposed model for $(\infty,n)$-categories, based on previous work of Verity and Riehl. We then construct a Quillen equivalent model based on simplicial presheaves over a category that can facilitate the comparison with other established models.
In this article, we construct a cofibrantly generated model structure on the category of spaces stratified over a fixed poset, and show that it is Quillen-equivalent to a category of diagrams of simplicial sets. Then, considering all those model structures together, we construct a cofibrantly generated model structure on the category of all stratified spaces. In both model categories, weak-equivalences are characterized by stratified homotopy groups.
We exhibit a Quillen equivalence between two model categories encoding the homotopy theory of stratified spaces : the model category of filtered simplicial sets, and that of filtered spaces. Additionally, we introduce a new class of filtered spaces, that of vertical filtered CW-complexes, providing a nice model for the homotopy category of stratified spaces.
In [BaSc2], the author and Tomer Schlank introduced a much weaker homotopical structure than a model category, which we called a "weak cofibration category". We further showed that a small weak cofibration category induces in a natural way a model category structure on its indcategory, provided the ind-category satisfies a certain two out of three property. The main purpose of this paper is to give sufficient intrinsic conditions on a weak cofibration category for this two out of three property to hold. We consider an application to the category of compact metrizable spaces, and thus obtain a …
We show that conically smooth stratified spaces embed fully faithfully into $\infty$-categories. This articulates a stratified generalization of the homotopy hypothesis proposed by Grothendieck. As such, each $\infty$-category defines a stack on conically smooth stratified spaces, and we identify the descent conditions it satisfies. These include $\mathbb{R}^1$-invariance and descent for open covers and blow-ups, analogous to sheaves for the h-topology in $\mathbb{A}^1$-homotopy theory. In this way, we identify $\infty$-categories as striation sheaves, which are those sheaves on conically smoo…
Given a monoidal $\infty$-category $C$ equipped with a monoidal recollement, we give a simple criterion for an object in $C$ to be dualizable in terms of the dualizability of each of its factors and a projection formula relating them. Predicated on this, we then characterize dualizability in any monoidally stratified $\infty$-category in terms of stratumwise dualizability and a projection formula for the links. Using our criterion, we prove a 1-dimensional bordism hypothesis for symmetric monoidal recollements. Namely, we provide an algebraic enhancement of the 1-dimensional framed bordism $\i…
A poset-stratified space is a pair $(S, S \xrightarrow πP)$ of a topological space $S$ and a continuous map $π: S \to P$ with a poset $P$ considered as a topological space with its associated Alexandroff topology. In this paper we show that one can impose such a poset-stratified space structure on the homotopy set $[X, Y]$ of homotopy classes of continuous maps by considering a canonical but non-trivial order (preorder) on it, namely we can capture the homotopy set $[X, Y]$ as an object of the category of poset-stratified spaces. The order we consider is related to the notion of \emph{dependen…
We identify the exit path $\infty$-category of the reductive Borel-Serre compactification as the nerve of a $1$-category defined purely in terms of rational parabolic subgroups and their unipotent radicals. As an immediate consequence, we identify the fundamental group of the reductive Borel-Serre compactification, recovering a result of Ji-Murty-Saper-Scherk, and we obtain a combinatorial incarnation of constructible complexes of sheaves on the reductive Borel-Serre compactification as elements in a derived functor category.
The goal of this article is to extend a theorem of Lurie \[ \mathsf{Sh}_A (X) = \mathsf{Fun}(\mathsf{Exit}_A (X), \mathsf{S}) \] representing constructible sheaves with values in $ \mathsf{S} $, the $ \infty $-category of spaces, on a stratified space $ X $ with poset of strata $ A $, as functors from the exit paths $ \infty $-category $ \mathsf{Exit}_A (X) $ to $ \mathsf{S} $. Lurie's representation theorem works provided $ A $ satisfy the ascending chain condition. This typically rules out infinite dimensional examples of stratified space. Building on it and with the help of a stratified hom…
We develop a theory of Mackey functors on epiorbital categories which simultaneously generalizes the theory of genuine $G$-spectra for a finite group $G$ and the theory of $n$-excisive functors on the category of spectra. Using a new theory of stratifications of a stable $\infty$-category along a finite poset, we prove a simultaneous generalization of two reconstruction theorems: one by Abram and Kriz on recovering $G$-spectra from structure on their geometric fixed point spectra for abelian $G$, and one by Arone and Ching that recovers an $n$-excisive functor from structure on its derivatives…
In this article we consider the homotopy theory of stratified spaces through a simplicial point of view. We first consider a model category of filtered simplicial sets over some fixed poset $P$, and show that it is a simplicial combinatorial model category. We then define a generalization of the homotopy groups for any fibrant filtered simplicial set $X$ : the filtered homotopy groups $sπ_n(X)$. They are diagrams of groups built from the homotopy groups of the different pieces of $X$. We then show that the weak equivalences are exactly the morphisms that induce isomorphisms on those filtered h…
Constructible sheaves of abelian groups on a stratified space can be equivalently described in terms of representations of the exit-path category. In this work, we provide a similar presentation of the abelian category of perverse sheaves on a stratified surface in terms of representations of the so-called paracyclic category of the surface. The category models a hybrid exit-entrance behaviour with respect to chosen sectors of direction, placing it "in between" exit and entrance path categories. In particular, this perspective yields an intrinsic definition of perverse sheaves as an abelian ca…
A stratified space is a topological space together with a decomposition into strata corresponding to different types of singularities. Examples of such spaces appear everywhere in topology and geometry. The study of stratified spaces involves invariants such as intersection cohomology which are only invariants under stratification-preserving homotopies. In this thesis, we study the homotopy theory of stratified spaces with respect to those stratified homotopies. To do so, we construct model categories for stratified spaces and we introduce new invariants to characterize them, the filtered homo…
Let $P$ be a poset. We define a new homotopy theory of suitably nice $P$-stratified topological spaces with equivalences on strata and links inverted. We show that the exit-path construction of MacPherson, Treumann, and Lurie defines an equivalence from our homotopy theory of $P$-stratified topological spaces to the $\infty$-category of $\infty$-categories with a conservative functor to $P$. This proves a stratified form of Grothendieck's homotopy hypothesis, verifying a conjecture of Ayala-Francis-Rozenblyum. Our homotopy theory of stratified spaces has the added benefit of capturing all exam…
We prove that the category of dg-modules and dg-algebras in a Grothendieck quasi-abelian category are endowed with a Quillen model structure. This allows some flexibility in setting up a theory of derived algebraic geometry in the infinite dimensional setting. For example, the category of complete bornological vector spaces, or equivalently, convenient vector spaces, is a Grothendieck quasi-abelian category. Closely related is the Grothendieck quasi-abelian category of ind-Banach spaces whose associated model category is shown to be Quillen equivalent. Applications include the Chevalley-Eilenb…
The notion of cellular stratified spaces was introduced in a joint work of the author with Basabe, González, and Rudyak [1009.1851] with the aim of constructing a cellular model of the configuration space of a sphere. In particular, it was shown that the classifying space (order complex) of the face poset of a totally normal regular cellular stratified space $X$ can be embedded in $X$ as a strong deformation retract. Here we elaborate on this idea and develop the theory of cellular stratified spaces. We introduce the notion of cylindrically normal cellular stratified spaces and associate a top…
In 1920s R. L. Moore introduced \emph{upper semicontinuous} and \emph{lower semicontinuous} decompositions in studying decomposition spaces. Upper semicontinuous decompositions were studied very well by himself and later by R.H. Bing in 1950s. In this paper we consider lower semicontinuous decompositions $\mathcal D$ of a topological space $X$ such that the decomposition spaces $X/\mathcal D$ are Alexandroff spaces. If the associated proset (preordered set) of the decomposition space $X/\mathcal D$ is a poset, then the decomposition map $π:X \to X/\mathcal D$ is \emph{a continuous map from the…
In this master thesis, we extend results from classical simple homotopy theory to the world of stratified homotopy theory. To obtain a well-established framework to work in, we prove a series of results on two model categories of simplicial sets and topological spaces, both equipped with a notion of filtration, introduced by Sylvain Douteau in his PHD thesis. In particular, we show that there is a fully faithful embedding of homotopy categories from the (finite) filtered simplicial into the filtered topological setting. We also use these results to characterize the morphisms in the topological…
We develop various aspects of the theory of recollements of $\infty$-categories, including a symmetric monoidal refinement of the theory. Our main result establishes a formula for the gluing functor of a recollement on the right-lax limit of a locally cocartesian fibration determined by a sieve-cosieve decomposition of the base. As an application, we prove a reconstruction theorem for sheaves in an $\infty$-topos stratified over a finite poset $P$ in the sense of Barwick-Glasman-Haine. Combining our theorem with methods from the work of Ayala-Mazel-Gee-Rozenblyum, we then prove a conjecture of…
Let $X$ be a topologically stratified space, $p$ be any perversity on $X$, and $k$ be a field. We show that the category of $p$-perverse sheaves on $X$, constructible with respect to the stratification and with coefficients in $k$, is equivalent to the category of finite-dimensional modules over a finite-dimensional algebra if and only if $X$ has finitely many strata and the same holds for the category of local systems on each of these. The main component in the proof is a construction of projective covers for simple perverse sheaves.
In these notes the epitopological and pseudotopological fundamental group functors are introduced. These are functors from the category of pointed epitopological and pseudotopological spaces respectively, to the category of their respective group-objects. Their restrictions to the full subcategory of topological spaces are lifts of the topologized fundamental group functor introduced in [Daniel K. Biss, The topological fundamental group and generalized covering spaces, Topology and its Applications, 124(3):355-371, 2002] and thus retain its information. At the same time, they show greater regu…
We prove that the derived category of $R$-linear representations of a finite group $G$ is stratified for any regular commutative ring $R$. As an application, we obtain a classification of localizing tensor ideals of ordinary $R$-linear $G$-representations whose underlying $R$-module is projective.
In this paper we study the Witt groups of symmetric and anti-symmetric forms on perverse sheaves on a finite-dimensional topologically stratified space with even dimensional strata. We show that the Witt group has a canonical decomposition as a direct sum of the Witt groups of shifted local systems on strata. We compare this with another `splitting decomposition' for Witt classes of perverse sheaves obtained inductively from our main new tool, a `splitting relation' which is a generalisation of isotropic reduction. The Witt groups we study are identified with the (non-trivial) Balmer-Witt grou…
