英文摘要:
We review the indefinite sublinear elliptic equation $-Δu=a(x)u^{q}$ in a smooth bounded domain $Ω\subset\mathbb{R}^{N}$, with Dirichlet or Neumann homogeneous boundary conditions. Here $0<q<1$ and $a$ is continuous and changes sign, in which case the strong maximum principle does not apply. As a consequence, the set of nonnegative solutions of these problems has a rich structure, featuring in particular both dead core and/or positive solutions. Overall, we are interested in sufficient and necessary conditions on $a$ and $q$ for the existence of positive solutions. We describe the main results from the past decades, and combine it with our recent contributions. The proofs are briefly sketched.
The aim of this paper is analyzing existence, multiplicity, and regularity issues for the positive solutions of a Neumann boundary value problem of superlinear indefinite type related to the mean curvature operator with a sublinear potential at infinity.
We establish a positivity property for a class of semilinear elliptic problems involving indefinite sublinear nonlinearities. Namely, we show that any nontrivial nonnegative solution is positive for a class of problems the strong maximum principle does not apply to. Our approach is based on a continuity argument combined with variational techniques, the sub and supersolutions method and some a priori bounds. Both Dirichlet and Neumann homogeneous boundary conditions are considered. As a byproduct, we deduce some existence and uniqueness results. Finally, as an application, we derive some posit…
The purpose of this paper is to study the indefinite Kirchhoff type problem: \begin{equation*} \left\{ \begin{array}{ll} M\left( \int_{\mathbb{R}^{N}}(|\nabla u|^{2}+u^{2})dx\right) \left[ -Δu+u\right] =f(x,u) & \text{in }\mathbb{R}^{N}, \\ 0\leq u\in H^{1}\left( \mathbb{R}^{N}\right), & \end{array} \right. \end{equation*} where $N\geq 1$, $M(t)=am\left( t\right) +b$, $m\in C(\mathbb{R}^{+})$ and $ f(x,u)=g(x,u)+h(x)u^{q-1}$. We require that $f$ is \textquotedblleft local\textquotedblright\ sublinear at the origin and \textquotedblleft local\textquotedblright\ linear at infinite. Using the mou…
We investigate the existence of a curve $q\mapsto u_{q}$, with $q\in(0,1)$, of positive solutions for the problem $(P_{a,q})$: $-Δu=a(x)u^{q}$ in $Ω$, $u=0$ on $\partialΩ$, where $Ω$ is a bounded and smooth domain of $\mathbb{R}^{N}$ and $a:Ω\rightarrow\mathbb{R}$ is a sign-changing function (in which case the strong maximum principle does not hold). In addition, we analyze the asymptotic behavior of $u_{q}$ as $q\rightarrow0^{+}$ and $q\rightarrow1^{-}$. We also show that in some cases $u_{q}$ is the ground state solution of $(P_{a,q})$. As a byproduct, we obtain existence results for a singu…
We go further in the investigation of the Robin problem $(P_α)$: $-Δu=a(x)u^{q}$ in $Ω$, $u\geq0$ in $Ω$, $\partial_νu=αu$ on $\partial Ω$; on a bounded domain $Ω\subset\mathbb{R}^{N}$, with $a$ sign-changing and $0<q<1$. Assuming the existence of a positive solution for $α=0$ (which holds if $q$ is close enough to 1), we sharpen the description of the nontrivial solution set of $(P_α)$ for $α>0$. Moreover, strengthening the assumptions on $a$ and $q$ we provide a global (i.e. for every $α>0$) exactness result on the number of solutions of $(P_α)$ . Our approach also applies to the problem $(S…
We consider a class of stationary Schrödinger-Poisson systems with a general nonlinearity $f(u)$ and coercive sign-changing potential $V$ so that the Schrödinger operator $-Δ+V$ is indefinite. Previous results in this framework required $f$ to be strictly $3$-superlinear, thus missing the paramount case of the Gross-Pitaevskii-Poisson system, where $f(t)=|t|^{2}t$; in this paper we fill this gap, obtaining non-trivial solutions when $f$ is not necessarily $3$-superlinear.
Let $Ω\subset\mathbb{R}^{N}$ ($N\geq1$) be a bounded and smooth domain and $a:Ω\rightarrow\mathbb{R}$ be a sign-changing weight satisfying $\int_Ωa<0$. We prove the existence of a positive solution $u_{q}$ for the problem $(P_{a,q})$: $-Δu=a(x)u^{q}$ in $Ω$, $\frac{\partial u}{\partialν}=0$ on $\partialΩ$, if $q_{0}<q<1$, for some $q_{0}=q_{0}(a)>0$. In doing so, we improve the existence result previously established in [16]. In addition, we provide the asymptotic behavior of $u_{q}$ as $q\rightarrow1^{-}$. When $Ω$ is a ball and $a$ is radial, we give some explicit conditions on $q$ and $a$ e…
In this paper, we consider the indefinite fractional elliptic problem. A corresponding Liouville-type theorem for the indefinite fractional elliptic equations is established. Furthermore, we obtain a priori bound for solutions in a bounded domain by blowing-up and re-scaling. We also classify the solutions of some degenerate elliptic equation originated from fractional Laplacian.
In this paper we discuss the existence and regularity of solutions of strongly indefinite systems involving fractional elliptic operators on a smooth bounded domain $Ω$ in $\R^n$.
We define some Nehari-type constraints using an orthogonal decomposition of the Sobolev space $H^1_0$ and prove the existence of multibump nodal solutions for an indefinite superlinear elliptic problem.
In this paper we approach the problem of perturbation from symmetry of strongly indefinite elliptic systems in dimension N>=3. We prove the existence of infinitely many solutions under suitable growth coinditions on the nonlinear terms.
In this work we prove the existence of a classical positive solution for an elliptic equation with a sublinear term. We use Galerkin approximations to show existence of such solution on bounded domains in RN.
We study existence and uniqueness of bounded solutions to a fractional sublinear elliptic equation with a variable coefficient, in the whole space. Existence is investigated in connection to a certain fractional linear equation, whereas the proof of uniqueness relies on uniqueness of solutions to an associated fractional porous medium equation with variable density.
We investigate second order elliptic equations \[F(\mathcal{H}u) = 0\] where the function $F\colon S(n)\to\mathbb{R}$ on the space of symmetric $n\times n$ matrices is assumed to be sublinear. There is very little to be found in the literature devoted particularly to sublinear elliptic operators. When examples of such operators occur, they are often merely treated as members of the larger class of convex operators. That class has been thoroughly investigated and many of its aspects are well understood. There is, however, something to be said about sublinear operators that do not, in general, a…
Let $Ω\subset\mathbb{R}^{N}$ ($N\geq1$) be a smooth bounded domain, $a\in C(\barΩ)$ a sign-changing function, and $0\leq q<1$. We investigate the Robin problem \[ \begin{cases} -Δu=a(x)u^{q} & \mbox{in $Ω$},\\ u\geq0 & \mbox{in $Ω$},\\ \partial_νu=αu & \mbox{on $\partial Ω$}, \end{cases} \] where $α\in\lbrack-\infty,\infty)$ and $ν$ is the unit outward normal to $\partialΩ$. Due to the lack of strong maximum principle structure, this problem may have \textit{dead core} solutions. However, for a large class of weights $a$ we recover a \textit{positivity} property when $q$ is close to $1$, which…
We consider a nonlinear Dirichlet problem driven by a variable exponent $p$-Laplacian plus an indefinite potential term. The reaction has the competing effects of a parametric concave (sublinear) term and of a convex (superlinear) perturbation (an anisotropic concave-convex problem). We prove a bifurcation-type theorem describing the changes in the set of positive solutions as the positive parameter $λ$ varies. Also, we prove the existence of minimal positive solutions.
In this article we deal with different forms of the unique continuation property for second order elliptic equations with nonlinear potentials of sublinear growth. Under suitable regularity assumptions, we prove the weak and the strong unique continuation property. Moreover, we also discuss the unique continuation property from measurable sets, which shows that nodal domains to these equations must have vanishing Lebesgue measure. Our methods rely on suitable Carleman estimates, for which we include the sublinear potential into the main part of the operator.
We present a necessary and sufficient condition on nonnegative Radon measures $μ$ and $ν$ for the existence of a positive continuous solution of the Dirichlet problem for the sublinear elliptic equation $-Δu=μu^q+ν$ with prescribed nonnegative continuous boundary data in a general domain. Moreover, two-sided pointwise estimates of Brezis-Kamin type for positive bounded solutions and the uniqueness of a positive continuous $L^q$-solution are investigated.
This paper is concerned with the following system of elliptic equations {equation*} \{{array}{ll} -Δu+u= F_u(|x|,u,v), & \hbox{} -Δv+v=- F_v(|x|,u,v), & \hbox{} \,\,\,\,\,u,v\in H^1(\mathbb{R}^N). & \hbox{} {array}. {equation*} It is shown that if $F$ is odd in $(u,v)$ and satisfy some growth conditions, then $(\mathcal{S})$ has infinitely many both radial and nonradial solutions. The proof relies on the Principle of Symmetric Criticality and a generalized Fountain Theorem for strongly indefinite functionals.
We prove the existence of a loop type component of non-negative solutions for an indefinite elliptic equation with homogeneous Neumann boundary conditions. This result complements our previous results obtained in [12], where the existence of another loop type component was established in a different situation. Our proof combines local and global bifurcation theory, rescaling and regularizing arguments, a priori bounds, and Whyburn's topological method. A further investigation of the loop type component established in [12] is also provided.
Let $L $ be a second order elliptic operator with smooth coefficients defined on a domain $Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^d$ (possibly unbounded), $d\geq 3$. We study nonnegative continuous solutions $u$ to the equation $L u(x) - φ(x, u(x))=0$ on $Ω$, where $φ$ is in the Kato class with respect to the first variable and it grows sublinearly with respect to the second variable. Under fairly general assumptions we prove that if there is a bounded non zero solution then there is no large solution.
In this paper, we consider the elliptic system \begin{equation*} \left\{\begin{array}{ll} -Δu=g(x,v)\,\, \textnormal{in}Ω, & \hbox{} -Δv=f(x,u)\,\,\textnormal{in}Ω, & \hbox{} u=v=0\textnormal{on}\partialΩ, & \hbox{} \end{array} \right. \end{equation*} where $Ω$ is a bounded smooth domain in $\mathbb{R}^N$, and $f$ and $g$ satisfy a general superquadratic condition. By using variational methods, we prove the existence of infinitely many solutions. Our argument relies on the application of a generalized variant fountain theorem for strongly indefinite functionals. Previous results in the topic a…
It is established existence of bound and ground state solutions for quasilinear elliptic systems driven by (ϕ1, ϕ2)-Laplacian operator. The main feature here is to consider quasilinear elliptic systems involving both nonsingular nonlinearities combined with indefinite potentials and singular cases perturbed by superlinear and subcritical couple terms. These prevent us to use arguments based on Ambrosetti-Rabinowitz condition and variational methods for differentiable functionals. By exploring the Nehari method and doing a fine analysis on the fibering map associated, we get estimates that allo…
We are concerned with a class of second order quasilinear elliptic equations driven by a nonhomogeneous differential operator introduced by C.A. Stuart and whose study is motivated by models in Nonlinear Optics. We establish sufficient conditions for the existence of at least one or two non-negative solutions. Our analysis considers the cases when the reaction has either a sublinear or a linear growth. In the sublinear case, we also prove a nonexistence property. The proofs combine energy estimates and variational methods. In particular, the monotonicity trick is applied in order to overcome t…
We establish several results related to existence, nonexistence or bifurcation of positive solutions for a Dirichlet boundary value problem with in a smooth bounded domain. The main feature of this paper consists in the presence of a singular nonlinearity, combined with a convection term. Our approach takes into account both the sign of the potential and the decay rate around the origin of the singular nonlinearity. The proofs are based on various techniques related to the maximum principle for elliptic equations.
In this paper we study the positive solutions of sub linear elliptic equations with a Hardy potential which is singular at the boundary. By means of ODE techniques a fairly complete picture of the class of radial solutions is given. Local solutions with a prescribed growth at the boundary are constructed by means of contraction operators. Some of those radial solutions are then used to construct ordered upper and lower solutions in general domains. By standard iteration arguments the existence of positive solutions is proved. An important tool is the Hardy constant.
We construct multibump nodal solutions of the elliptic equation $$ -Δu=a^+[λu+ f(\, \cdot\,, u)]-μa^- g(\, \cdot\,, u) $$ in $H^1_0(Ω)$, when $μ$ is large, under appropriate assumptions, for $f$ superlinear and subcritical and such that the eigenvalues of the associated linearized operator on $H^1_0(\{x\inΩ:\: a(x)>0\})$ at zero, $u\longmapsto u-λ(-Δ)^{-1}(a^+ u)$, are positive. The solutions are of least energy in some Nehari-type set defined by imposing suitable conditions on orthogonal components of functions in $H^1_0(Ω)$.
We consider a parametric semilinear Robin problem driven by the Laplacian plus an indefinite potential. The reaction term involves competing nonlinearities. More precisely, it is the sum of a parametric sublinear (concave) term and a superlinear (convex) term. The superlinearity is not expressed via the Ambrosetti-Rabinowitz condition. Instead, a more general hypothesis is used. We prove a bifurcation-type theorem describing the set of positive solutions as the parameter $λ> 0$ varies. We also show the existence of a minimal positive solution $\tilde{u}_λ$ and determine the monotonicity and co…
We consider a nonlinear elliptic equation driven by the Robin $p$-Laplacian plus an indefinite potential. In the reaction we have the competing effects of a strictly $(p-1)$-sublinear parametric term and of a $(p-1)$-linear and nonuniformly nonresonant term. We study the set of positive solutions as the parameter $λ>0$ varies. We prove a bifurcation-type result for large values of the positive parameter $λ$. Also, we show that for all admissible $λ>0$, the problem has a smallest positive solution $\overline{u}_λ$ and we study the monotonicity and continuity properties of the map $λ\mapsto\over…
Let $L$ be a second order elliptic operator $L$ with smooth coefficients defined on a domain $Ω$ in $\mathbb{R}^d $, $d\geq3$, such that $L1\leq 0$. We study existence and properties of continuous solutions to the following problem \begin{equation}\label{00} Lu=φ(\cdot,u),% & \hbox{in $Ω$; in the sens of distribution;} \\ \end{equation} in $Ω,$ where $Ω$ is a Greenian domain for $L$ {(possibly unbounded)} in $\mathbb{R}^d$ and $φ$ is a nonnegative function on $Ω\times [0,+\infty [$ increasing with respect to the second variable. By means of thinness, we obtain a characterization of $φ$ for whi…
Let $Ω$ be a smooth bounded domain in $\mathbb{R}^{N}$ and let $m$ be a possibly discontinuous and unbounded function that changes sign in $Ω$. Let $f:\left[ 0,\infty\right) \rightarrow\left[ 0,\infty\right) $ be a continuous function such that $k_{1}ξ^{p}\leq f\left(ξ\right) \leq k_{2}ξ^{p}$ for all $ξ\geq0$ and some $k_{1},k_{2}>0$ and $p\in\left(0,1\right) $. We study existence and nonexistence of strictly positive solutions for nonlinear elliptic problems of the form $-Δu=m\left(x\right) f\left(u\right) $ in $Ω$, $u=0$ on $\partialΩ$.
Let $Ω\subset\mathbb{R}^{N}$, $N\geq1$, be a smooth bounded domain, and let $m:Ω\rightarrow\mathbb{R}$ be a possibly sign-changing function. We investigate the existence of positive solutions for the semipositone problem $-Δu=λm(x)(f(u)-k)$ in $Ω$, $u=0$ on $\partialΩ$, where $λ,k>0$ and $f$ is either sublinear at infinity with $f(0)=0$, or $f$ has a singularity at $0$. We prove the existence of a positive solution for certain ranges of $λ$ provided that the negative part of $m$ is suitably small. Our main tool is the sub-supersolutions method, combined with some rescaling properties.
Our purpose is to find positive solutions $u \in D^{1,2}(\rz^N)$ of the semilinear elliptic problem $-\laplace u = h(x) u^{p-1}$ for $2<p$. The function $h$ may have an indefinite sign. Key ingredients are a $h$-dependent concentration-compactness Lemma and a characterization of compact embeddings of $D^{1,2}(\rz^N)$ into weighted Lebesgue spaces.
We give necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of a positive solution with zero boundary values to the elliptic equation \[ \mathcal{L}u = σu^{q} + μ\quad \text{in} \;\; Ω, \] in the sublinear case $0<q<1$, with finite generalized energy: $\mathbb{E}_γ[u]:=\int_Ω |\nabla u|^{2} u^{γ-1}dx<\infty$, for $γ>0$. In this case $u \in L^{γ+q}(Ω, σ)\cap L^γ(Ω, μ)$, where $γ=1$ corresponds to finite energy solutions. Here $\mathcal{L} u:= -\,\text{div}(\mathcal{A}\nabla u)$ is a linear uniformly elliptic operator with bounded measurable coefficients, and $σ$, $μ$ are nonnegative functions…
We consider the problem $(P)$, $$ -Δu =c(x)u+μ|\nabla u|^2 +f(x), \quad u \in H^1_0(Ω) \cap L^{\infty}(Ω),$$ where $Ω$ is a bounded domain of $\mathbb{R}^N$, $N \geq 3$, $μ>0, \, c \in \mathcal{C}(\overlineΩ),$ and $ f \in L^q(Ω)$ for some $ q>\frac{N}{2}$ with $ f\gneqq 0. $ Here $c$ is allowed to change sign. We show that when $c^+ \not \equiv 0$ and $c^+ +μf$ is suitably small, this problem has at least two positive solutions. This result contrasts with the case $c \leq 0$, where uniqueness holds. To show this multiplicity result we first transform $(P)$ into a semilinear problem having a v…
Let $f$ be a continuous and non-decreasing function such that $f>0$ on $(0,\infty)$, $f(0)=0$, $\sup \_{s\geq 1}f(s)/s< \infty$ and let $p$ be a non-negative continuous function. We study the existence and nonexistence of explosive solutions to the equation $Δu+|\nabla u|=p(x)f(u)$ in $Ω,$ where $Ω$ is either a smooth bounded domain or $Ω=\RR^N$. If $Ω$ is bounded we prove that the above problem has never a blow-up boundary solution. Since $f$ does not satisfy the Keller-Osserman growth condition at infinity, we supply in the case $Ω=\RR^N$ a necessary and sufficient condition for the existenc…
We consider bifurcation of solutions from a given trivial branch for a class of strongly indefinite elliptic systems via the spectral flow. Our main results establish bifurcation invariants that can be obtained from the coefficients of the systems without using explicit solutions of their linearisations at the given branch. Our constructions are based on a comparison principle for the spectral flow and a generalisation of a bifurcation theorem due to Szulkin.
We study perturbations of the eigenvalue problem for the negative Laplacian plus an indefinite and unbounded potential and Robin boundary condition. First we consider the case of a sublinear perturbation and then of a superlinear perturbation. For the first case we show that for $λ<\widehatλ_{1}$ ($\widehatλ_{1}$ being the principal eigenvalue) there is one positive solution which is unique under additional conditions on the perturbation term. For $λ\geq\widehatλ_{1}$ there are no positive solutions. In the superlinear case, for $λ<\widehatλ_{1}$ we have at least two positive solutions and for…
We present a new approach to solve a Schrödinger Equation autonomous at infinity, by identifying the relation between the arrangement of the spectrum of the concerned operator and the behavior of the nonlinearity at zero and at infinity. In order to apply variational methods, we set up a suitable linking structure depending on the growth of the nonlinear term and making use of information about the autonomous problem at infinity. Our method allows us to circumvent the lack of compactness. The main novelty is that none monotonicity assumption is required on the nonlinearity, which may be sign-c…
We study quasilinear elliptic equations of the type $$-Δ_pu=σ\, u^q \quad \text{in} \, \, \, \mathbb{R}^n,$$ where $Δ_p u=\nabla \cdot(\nabla u |\nabla u|^{p-2})$ is the $p$-Laplacian (or a more general $\mathcal{A}$-Laplace operator $\text{div} \, \mathcal{A}(x, \nabla u)$), $0<q < p-1$, and $σ\ge 0$ is an arbitrary locally integrable function or measure on $\mathbb{R}^n$. We obtain necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of positive solutions (not necessarily bounded) which satisfy global pointwise estimates of Brezis-Kamin type given in terms of Wolff potentials. Similar probl…
We study the elliptic system \begin{equation*} \begin{cases} -Δu_1 - κ_1u_1 = μ_1|u_1|^{p-2}u_1 + λα|u_1|^{α-2}|u_2|^βu_1, \\ -Δu_2 - κ_2u_2 = μ_2|u_2|^{p-2}u_2 + λβ|u_1|^α|u_2|^{β-2}u_2, \\ u_1,u_2\in D^{1,2}_0(Ω), \end{cases} \end{equation*} where $Ω$ is a bounded domain in $\mathbb{R}^N$, $N\geq 3$, $κ_1,κ_2\in\mathbb{R}$, $μ_1,μ_2,λ>0$, $α,β>1$, and $α+ β= p\le 2^*:=\frac{2N}{N-2}$. For $p\in (2,2^*)$ we establish the existence of a ground state and of a prescribed number of fully nontrivial solutions to this system for $λ$ sufficiently large. If $p=2^*$ and $κ_1,κ_2>0$ we establish the ex…
Our purpose is to find positive solutions $u \in D^{1,2}(\rz^N)$ of the semilinear elliptic problem $-\laplace u - λV(x) u = h(x) u^{p-1}$ for $2<p$. The functions $V$ and $h$ may have an indefinite sign and the linearized operator need not to have a first (principal) eigenvalue, e.g. we allow $V\equiv 1$. We give precise existence and nonexistence criteria, which depend on $λ$ and on the growth of $h^{-}$ and $h^{+}/V^+$. Existence theorems are obtained by constrained minimization. The mountain pass theorem leads to a second solution.
A minimax variational principle for saddle-point solutions with prescribed energy levels is introduced. The approach is based on the development of the linking theorem to the energy level nonlinear generalized Rayleigh quotients. An application to indefinite elliptic Dirichlet problems is presented. Among the consequences, the existence of solutions with zero-energy levels is obtained.
Let $Ω\subset \mathbb R^N$, $N \geq 2$, be a smooth bounded domain. We consider a boundary value problem of the form $$-Δu = c_λ(x) u + μ(x) |\nabla u|^2 + h(x), \quad u \in H^1_0(Ω)\cap L^{\infty}(Ω)$$ where $c_λ$ depends on a parameter $λ\in \mathbb R$, the coefficients $c_λ$ and $h$ belong to $L^q(Ω)$ with $q>N/2$ and $μ\in L^{\infty}(Ω)$. Under suitable assumptions, but without imposing a sign condition on any of these coefficients, we obtain an a priori upper bound on the solutions. Our proof relies on a new boundary weak Harnack inequality. This inequality, which is of independent intere…
We study positive supersolutions to an elliptic equation $(*)$: $-Δu=c|x|^{-s}u^p$, $p,s\in\bf R$ in cone-like domains in $\bf R^N$ ($N\ge 2$). We prove that in the sublinear case $p<1$ there exists a critical exponent $p_*<1$ such that equation $(*)$ has a positive supersolution if and only if $-\infty<p<p_*$. The value of $p_*$ is determined explicitly by $s$ and the geometry of the cone.
In this paper, we establish space like strong unique continuation property (sucp) for uniformly parabolic sublinear equations under appropriate structural assumptions. Our main result Theorem 1.1 constitutes the parabolic counterpart of the strong unique continuation result recently established by Ruland in [Ru] for analogous elliptic sublinear equations. Similar to that in [Ru], this is accomplished via a new $L^{2}-L^{2}$ type Carleman estimate for a class of sublinear parabolic operators.
Spectral asymptotics of linear periodic elliptic operators with indefinite (sign-changing) density function is investigated in perforated domains with the two-scale convergence method. The limiting behavior of positive and negative eigencouples depends crucially on whether the average of the weight over the solid part is positive, negative or equal to zero. We prove concise homogenization results in all three cases.
We study the existence and multiplicity of positive solutions for a family of fractional Kirchhoff equations with critical nonlinearity of the form \begin{equation*} M\left(\int_Ω|(-Δ)^{\fracα{2}}u|^2dx\right)(-Δ)^α u= λf(x)|u|^{q-2}u+|u|^{2^*_α-2}u\;\; \text{in}\; Ω,\;u=0\;\textrm{in}\;\mathbb R^n\setminus Ω, \end{equation*} where $Ω\subset \mathbb R^n$ is a smooth bounded domain, $ M(t)=a+\varepsilon t, \; a, \; \varepsilon>0,\; 0<α<1, \; 2α<n<4α$ and $ \; 1<q<2$. Here $2^*_α={2n}/{(n-2α)}$ is the fractional critical Sobolev exponent, $λ$ is a positive parameter and the coefficient $f(x)$ is…
We study the nonlinear elliptic problem $-Δu=ρ(x)f(u)$ in $\RR^N$ ($N\geq 3$), $\lim\_{|x|\ri\infty}u(x)=\ell$, where $\ell\geq 0$ is a real number, $ρ(x)$ is a nonnegative potential belonging to a certain Kato class, and $f(u)$ has a sublinear growth. We distinguish the cases $\ell>0$ and $\ell=0$ and we prove existence and uniqueness results if the potential $ρ(x)$ decays fast enough at infinity. Our arguments rely on comparison techniques and on a theorem of Brezis and Oswald for sublinear elliptic equations.
We give a survey of nonlinear potential estimates and their applications obtained recently for positive solutions to sublinear problems of the type \[ u = \mathbf{G}(σu^q) + f \quad \textrm{in} \,\, Ω, \] where $0 < q < 1$, $σ\ge 0$ is a Radon measure in $Ω$, $ f \ge 0$ is a measurable function, and $\mathbf{G}$ is a linear integral operator with positive kernel $G$ on $Ω\timesΩ$. For quasi-metric (or quasi-metrically modifiable) kernels $G$, these bilateral pointwise estimates yield existence criteria and uniqueness of solutions $u \in L^q_{\rm loc} (Ω, σ)$. Applications are considered to sem…
