Given integers $k,j$ with $1\le j \le k-1$, we consider the length of the longest $j$-tight path in the binomial random $k$-uniform hypergraph $H^k(n,p)$. We show that this length undergoes a phase transition from logarithmic length to linear and determine the critical threshold, as well as proving upper and lower bounds on the length in the subcritical and supercritical ranges.
In particular, for the supercritical case we introduce the `Pathfinder' algorithm, a depth-first search algorithm which discovers $j$-tight paths in a $k$-uniform hypergraph. We prove that, in the supercritical case, with high probability this algorithm will find a long $j$-tight path.
We prove a lower bound on the length of the longest $j$-tight cycle in a $k$-uniform binomial random hypergraph for any $2 \le j \le k-1$. We first prove the existence of a $j$-tight path of the required length. The standard "sprinkling" argument is not enough to show that this path can be closed to a $j$-tight cycle -- we therefore show that the path has many extensions, which is sufficient to allow the sprinkling to close the cycle.
We consider the size of the smallest set of vertices required to intersect every longest path in a chordal graph. Such sets are known as longest path transversals. We show that if $ω(G)$ is the clique number of a chordal graph $G$, then there is a transversal of order at most $4\lceil\frac{ω(G)}{5}\rceil$. We also consider the analogous question for longest cycles, and show that if $G$ is a 2-connected chordal graph then there is a transversal intersecting all longest cycles of order at most $2\lceil\frac{ω(G)}{3}\rceil$.
We show that every pair of longest paths in a $k$-connected graph on $n$ vertices intersect each other in at least $(8k-n+2)/5$ vertices. We also show that, in a 4-connected graph, every pair of longest paths intersect each other in at least four vertices. This confirms a conjecture of Hippchen for $k$-connected graphs when $k\leq 4$ or $k\geq (n-2)/3$.
We prove that for a connected simple graph $G$ with $n\le 10$ vertices, and two longest paths $C$ and $D$ in $G$, the intersection of vertex sets $V(C)\cap V(D)$ is a separator. This shows that the graph found previously with $n=11$, in which the complement of the intersection of vertex sets $V(C)\cap V(D)$ of two longest paths is connected, is minimal.
Let $P,Q$ be longest paths in a simple graph. We analyze the possible connections between the components of $P\cup Q\setminus (V(P)\cap V(Q))$ and introduce the notion of a bi-traceable graph. We use the results for all the possible configurations of the intersection points when $\#V(P)\cap V(Q)\le 5$ in order to prove that if the intersection of three longest paths $P,Q,R$ is empty, then $\#(V(P)\cap V(Q))\ge 6$. We also prove Hippchen's conjecture for $k\le 6$: If a graph $G$ is $k$-connected for $k\le 6$, and $P$ and $Q$ are longest paths in $G$, then $\#(V(P)\cap V(Q))\ge 6$.
Inspired by the study of loose cycles in hypergraphs, we define the \emph{loose core} in hypergraphs as a structure which mirrors the close relationship between cycles and $2$-cores in graphs. We prove that in the $r$-uniform binomial random hypergraph $H^r(n,p)$, the order of the loose core undergoes a phase transition at a certain critical threshold and determine this order, as well as the number of edges, asymptotically in the subcritical and supercritical regimes. Our main tool is an algorithm called CoreConstruct, which enables us to analyse a peeling process for the loose core. By analys…
Extensions of Erdős-Gallai Theorem for general hypergraphs are well studied. In this work, we prove the extension of Erdős-Gallai Theorem for linear hypergraphs. In particular, we show that the number of hyperedges in an $n$-vertex $3$-uniform linear hypergraph, without a Berge path of length $k$ as a subgraph is at most $\frac{(k-1)}{6}n$ for $k\geq 4$.
We generalize a result of Balister, Gy{ő}ri, Lehel and Schelp for hypergraphs. We determine the unique extremal structure of an $n$-vertex, $r$-uniform, connected, hypergraph with the maximum number of hyperedges, without a $k$-Berge-path, where $n \geq N_{k,r}$, $k\geq 2r+13>17$.
We answer a question of Gyárfás and Sárközy from 2013 by showing that every 2-edge-coloured complete 3-uniform hypergraph can be partitioned into two monochromatic tight paths of different colours. We also give a lower bound for the number of tight paths needed to partition any 2-edge-coloured complete r-partite r-uniform hypergraph. Finally, we show that any 2-edge-coloured complete bipartite graph has a partition into a monochromatic cycle and a monochromatic path, of different colours, unless the colouring is a split colouring.
Let $H$ be an $n$-vertex 3-uniform hypergraph such that every pair of vertices is in at least $n/3+o(n)$ edges. We show that $H$ contains two vertex-disjoint tight paths whose union covers the vertex set of $H$. The quantity two here is best possible and the degree condition is asymptotically best possible. This result also has an interpretation as the \emph{deficiency problems}, recently introduced by Nenadov, Sudakov and Wagner: every such $H$ can be made Hamiltonian by adding at most two vertices and all triples intersecting them.
We expand the structural theory of \ca graphs that avoid specific cyclic coset patterns. We present several characterisations of tree-likeness for these structures and show a close connection to $α$-acyclic hypergraphs. A focus lies on the behaviour of short paths of overlapping cosets in these \ca graphs, and their relation to short chordless paths in hypergraphs that are locally acyclic.
The longest minimum-weight path in a complete graph
本文研究了n-顶点完全图中边的权为独立同分布的任意一对结点之间的最小权路。指数分布的随机变量。我们证明了这些最小权路径中最长的路径约有α^* \log n $ edges where α^* ~ 3.5911 is the unique solution of the equation $ alpha log(alpha)- α=1。这回答了Janson(1999)提出的一个问题。
In 1999, Katona and Kierstead conjectured that if a $k$-uniform hypergraph $\cal H$ on $n$ vertices has minimum co-degree $\lfloor \frac{n-k+3}{2}\rfloor$, i.e., each set of $k-1$ vertices is contained in at least $\lfloor \frac{n-k+3}{2}\rfloor$ edges, then it has a Hamiltonian cycle. Rödl, Ruciński and Szemerédi in 2011 proved that the conjecture is true when $k=3$ and $n$ is large. We show that this Katona-Kierstead conjecture holds if $k=4$, $n$ is large, and $V({\cal H})$ has a partition $A$, $B$ such that $|A|=\lceil n/2\rceil$, $|\{e\in E({\cal H}):|e \cap A|=2\}| <εn^4$ for a fixed sma…
We describe various path homology theories constructed for a directed hypergraph. We introduce the category of directed hypergraphs and the notion of a homotopy in this category. Also, we investigate the functoriality and the homotopy invariance of the introduced path homology groups. We provide examples of computation of these homology groups.
We introduce the weighted path homology on the category of weigh\-ted directed hypergraphs and describe conditions of homotopy invariance of weighted path homology groups. We give several examples that explain the nontriviality of the introduced notions.
