For a family of 1-d quantum harmonic oscillator with a perturbation which is $C^2$ parametrized by $E\in{\mathcal I}\subset{\Bbb R}$ and quadratic on $x$ and $-{\rm i}\partial_x$ with coefficients quasi-periodically depending on time $t$, we show the reducibility (i.e., conjugation to time-independent) for a.e. $E$. As an application of reducibility, we describe the behaviors of solution in Sobolev space:
-- Boundedness w.r.t. $t$ is always true for "most" $E\in{\mathcal I}$.
-- For "generic" time-dependent perturbation, polynomial growth and exponential growth to infinity w.r.t. $t$ occur for $E$ in a "small" part of ${\mathcal I}$.
Concrete examples are given for which the growths of Sobolev norm do occur.
In this paper, we prove that the Sobolev norm of solutions of the linear wave equation with unbounded perturbations of order one stay bounded for the all time. The main proof is based on the KAM reducibility of the linear wave equation. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first reducibility result of the linear wave equation with general quasi-periodic unbounded potentials on the torus.
We prove that a linear d-dimensional Schr{ö}dinger equation on $\mathbb{R}^d$ with harmonic potential $|x|^2$ and small t-quasiperiodic potential $i\partial\_t u -- Δu + |x|^2 u + εV (tω, x)u = 0, x \in \mathbb{R}^d$ reduces to an autonomous system for most values of the frequency vector $ω\in \mathbb{R}^n$. As a consequence any solution of such a linear PDE is almost periodic in time and remains bounded in all Sobolev norms.
We prove a reducibility result for a linear wave equation with a time quasi-periodic driving on the one dimensional torus. The driving is assumed to be fast oscillating, but not necessarily of small size. Provided that the external frequency vector is sufficiently large and chosen from a Cantor set of large measure, the original equation is conjugated to a time-independent, block-diagonal one. With the present paper we extend the previous work \cite{FM19} to more general assumptions: we replace the analytic regularity in time with Sobolev one; the potential in the Schrödinger operator is a non…
We prove a reducibility result for a quantum harmonic oscillator in arbitrary dimensions with arbitrary frequencies perturbed by a linear operator which is a polynomial of degree two in $x_j$, $-i \partial_j$ with coefficients which depend quasiperiodically on time.
We consider the one-dimensional quantum harmonic oscillator perturbed by a linear operator which is a polynomial of degree $2$ in $(x,-{\rm i}\partial_x)$, with coefficients quasi-periodically depending on time. By establishing the reducibility results, we describe the growth of Sobolev norms. In particular, the $t^{2s}-$polynomial growth of ${\mathcal H}^s-$norm is observed in this model if the original time quasi-periodic equation is reduced to a constant Stark Hamiltonian.
In this paper we prove an abstract KAM theorem for infinite dimensional Hamiltonians systems. This result extends previous works of S.B. Kuksin and J. Pöschel and uses recent techniques of H. Eliasson and S.B. Kuksin. As an application we show that some 1D nonlinear Schrödinger equations with harmonic potential admits many quasi-periodic solutions. In a second application we prove the reducibility of the 1D Schrödinger equations with the harmonic potential and a quasi periodic in time potential.
In this paper we prove the existence and the stability of small-amplitude quasi-periodic solutions with Sobolev regularity, for the 1-dimensional forced Kirchoff equation with periodic boundary conditions. This is the first KAM result for a quasi-linear wave-type equation. The main difficulties are: $(i)$ the presence of the highest order derivative in the nonlinearity which does not allow to apply the classical KAM scheme, $(ii)$ the presence of double resonances, due to the double multiplicity of the eigenvalues of $- \partial_{xx}$. The proof is based on a Nash-Moser scheme in Sobolev class…
We consider the semiclassical Schrödinger equation on $\mathbb R^d$ given by $$\mathrm{i} \hbar \partial_t ψ= \left(-\frac{\hbar^2}{2} Δ+ W_l(x) \right)ψ+ V(t,x)ψ,$$ where $W_l$ is an anharmonic trapping of the form $W_l(x)= \frac{1}{2l}\sum_{j=1}^d x_j^{2l}$, $l\geq 2$ is an integer and $\hbar$ is a semiclassical small parameter. We construct a smooth potential $V(t,x)$, bounded in time with its derivatives, and an initial datum such that the Sobolev norms of the solution grow at a logarithmic speed for all times of order $\log^{\frac12}(\hbar^{-1})$. The proof relies on two ingredients: firs…
We introduce specific solutions to the linear harmonic oscillator, named bubbles. They form resonant families of invariant tori of the linear dynamics, with arbitrarily large Sobolev norms. We use these modulated bubbles of energy to construct a class of potentials which are real, smooth, time dependent and uniformly decaying to zero with respect to time, such that the corresponding perturbed quantum harmonic oscillator admits solutions which exhibit a logarithmic growth of Sobolev norms. The resonance mechanism is explicit in space variables and produces highly oscillatory solutions. We then …
We study the reducibility of a Linear Schrödinger equation subject to a small unbounded almost-periodic perturbation which is analytic in time and space. Under appropriate assumptions on the smallness, analiticity and on the frequency of the almost-periodic perturbation, we prove that such an equation is reducible to constant coefficients via an analytic almost-periodic change of variables. This implies control of both Sobolev and Analytic norms for the solution of the corresponding Schrödinger equation for all times.
A Weakly Turbulent solution to the cubic Nonlinear Harmonic Oscillator on $\mathbb{R}^2$ perturbed by a real smooth potential decaying to zero at infinity
The Kuramoto model is a mean-field model for the synchronisation behaviour of oscillators, which exhibits Landau damping. In a recent work, the nonlinear stability of a class of spatially inhomogeneous stationary states was shown under the assumption of analytic regularity. This paper proves the nonlinear Landau damping under the assumption of Sobolev regularity. The weaker regularity required the construction of a different more robust bootstrap argument, which focuses on the nonlinear Volterra equation of the order parameter.
We consider the semilinear harmonic oscillator $$iψ_t=(-Δ+\va{x}^{2} +M)ψ+\partial_2 g(ψ,\bar ψ), \quad x\in \R^d, t\in \R$$ where $M$ is a Hermite multiplier and $g$ a smooth function globally of order 3 at least. We prove that such a Hamiltonian equation admits, in a neighborhood of the origin, a Birkhoff normal form at any order and that, under generic conditions on $M$ related to the non resonance of the linear part, this normal form is integrable when $d=1$ and gives rise to simple (in particular bounded) dynamics when $d\geq 2$. As a consequence we prove the almost global existence for s…
We prove polynomial upper bounds on the growth of solutions to 2d cubic NLS where the Laplacian is confined by the harmonic potential. Due to better bilinear effects our bounds improve on those available for the $2d$ cubic NLS in the periodic setting: our growth rate for a Sobolev norm of order s=2k, $k\in \mathbb{N}$, is $t^{2(s-1)/3+\varepsilon}$. In the appendix we provide an direct proof, based on integration by parts, of bilinear estimates associated with the harmonic oscillator.
We prove the existence of quasi-periodic, small amplitude, solutions for quasi-linear and fully nonlinear forced perturbations of KdV equations. For Hamiltonian or reversible nonlinearities we also obtain the linear stability of the solutions. The proofs are based on a combination of different ideas and techniques: (i) a Nash-Moser iterative scheme in Sobolev scales. (ii) A regularization procedure, which conjugates the linearized operator to a differential operator with constant coefficients plus a bounded remainder. These transformations are obtained by changes of variables induced by diffeo…
We prove an abstract theorem giving a $\langle t\rangle^ε$ bound ($\forall ε>0$) on the growth of the Sobolev norms in linear Schrödinger equations of the form $i \dot ψ= H_0 ψ+ V(t) ψ$ when the time $t \to \infty$. The abstract theorem is applied to several cases, including the cases where (i) $H_0$ is the Laplace operator on a Zoll manifold and $V(t)$ a pseudodifferential operator of order smaller then 2; (ii) $H_0$ is the (resonant or nonresonant) Harmonic oscillator in $R^d$ and $V(t)$ a pseudodifferential operator of order smaller then $H_0$ depending in a quasiperiodic way on time. The p…
Novel global weighted parabolic Sobolev estimates, weighted mixed-norm estimates and a.e. convergence results of singular integrals for evolution equations are obtained. Our results include the classical heat equation, the harmonic oscillator evolution equation $$\partial_tu=Δu-|x|^2u+f,$$ and their corresponding Cauchy problems. We also show weighted mixed-norm estimates for solutions to degenerate parabolic extension problems arising in connection with the fractional space-time nonlocal equations $(\partial_t-Δ)^su=f$ and $(\partial_t-Δ+|x|^2)^su=f$, for $0<s<1$.
In this paper we consider linear, time dependent Schrödinger equations of the form $i \partial_t ψ= K_0 ψ+ V(t) ψ$, where $K_0$ is a positive self-adjoint operator with discrete spectrum and whose spectral gaps are asymptotically constant. We give a strategy to construct bounded perturbations $V(t)$ such that the Hamiltonian $K_0 + V(t)$ generates unbounded orbits. We apply our abstract construction to three cases: (i) the Harmonic oscillator on $\mathbb R$, (ii) the half-wave equation on $\mathbb T$ and (iii) the Dirac-Schrödinger equation on the sphere. In each case, $V(t)$ is a smooth and p…
In this paper we consider linear, time dependent Schrödinger equations of the form ${\rm i} \partial_t ψ= K_0 ψ+ V(t) ψ$, where $K_0$ is a strictly positive selfadjoint operator with discrete spectrum and constant spectral gaps, and $V(t)$ a time periodic potential. We give sufficient conditions on $V(t)$ ensuring that $K_0+V (t)$ generates unbounded orbits. The main condition is that the resonant average of $V(t)$, namely the average with respect to the flow of $K_0$, has a nonempty absolutely continuous spectrum and fulfills a Mourre estimate. These conditions are stable under perturbations.…
We extend a randomisation method, introduced by Shiffman-Zelditch and developed by Burq-Lebeau on compact manifolds for the Laplace operator, to the case of $\mathbb{R}^d$ with the harmonic oscillator. We construct measures, thanks to probability laws which satisfy the concentration of measure property, on the support of which we prove optimal weighted Sobolev estimates on $\mathbb{R}^d$. This construction relies on accurate estimates on the spectral function in a non-compact configuration space. As an application, we show that there exists a basis of Hermite functions with good decay properti…
Based on the nonlinear steepest descent method of Deift and Zhou for oscillatory Riemann--Hilbert problems and the Dbar approach, the long-time asymptotic behavior of solutions to the fifth-order modified Korteweg-de Vries equation on the line is studied in the case of initial conditions that belong to some weighted Sobolev spaces. Using techniques in Fourier analysis and the idea of $I$-method, we give its global well-posedness in lower regularity Sobolev spaces, and then obtain the asymptotic behavior in these spaces with weights.
In this paper we consider the linear, time dependent quantum Harmonic Schrödinger equation $i \partial_t u= \frac{1}{2} ( - \partial_x^2 + x^2) u + V(t, x, D)u$, $x \in \mathbb R$, where $V(t,x,D)$ is classical pseudodifferential operator of order 0, selfadjoint, and $2π$ periodic in time. We give sufficient conditions on the principal symbol of $V(t,x,D)$ ensuring the existence of weakly turbulent solutions displaying infinite time growth of Sobolev norms. These conditions are generic in the Frechet space of symbols. This shows that generic, classical pseudodifferential, $2π$-periodic perturb…
We prove that Gibbs measures based on 1D defocusing nonlinear Schr{ö}dinger functionals with sub-harmonic trapping can be obtained as the mean-field/large temperature limit of the corresponding grand-canonical ensemble for many bosons. The limit measure is supported on Sobolev spaces of negative regularity and the corresponding density matrices are not trace-class. The general proof strategy is that of a previous paper of ours, but we have to complement it with Hilbert-Schmidt estimates on reduced density matrices.
We consider the time slicing approximations of Feynman path integrals, constructed via piecewice classical paths. A detailed study of the convergence in the norm operator topology, in the space $\mathcal{B}(L^2(\mathbb{R}^d))$ of bounded operators on $L^2$, and even in finer operator topologies, was carried on by D. Fujiwara in the case of smooth potentials with an at most quadratic growth. In the present paper we show that the result about the convergence in $\mathcal{B}(L^2(\mathbb{R}^d))$ remains valid if the potential is only assumed to have second space derivatives in the Sobolev space $H…
Consider the global wellposedness problem for nonlinear Schrödinger equation \[ i\partial_t u = [-\tfrac{1}{2} Δ+ V(x)] u \pm |u|^{4/(d-2)} u, \ u(0) \in Σ(\mathbf{R}^d), \] where $Σ$ is the weighted Sobolev space $\dot{H}^1 \cap |x|^{-1} L^2$. The case $V(x) = \tfrac{1}{2}|x|^2$ was recently treated by the author. This note generalizes the results to a class of "approximately quadratic" potentials. We closely follow the previous concentration compactness arguments for the harmonic oscillator. A key technical difference is that in the absence of a concrete formula for the linear propagator, we…
We provide a detailed study of the dynamics obtained by linearizing the Korteweg-de Vries equation about one of its periodic traveling waves, a cnoidal wave. In a suitable sense, linearly analogous to space-modulated stability, we prove global-in-time bounded stability in any Sobolev space, and asymptotic stability of dispersive type. Furthermore, we provide both a leading-order description of the dynamics in terms of slow modulation of local parameters and asymptotic modulation systems and effective initial data for the evolution of those parameters. This requires a global-in-time study of th…
We consider the linear Wigner-Fokker-Planck equation subject to confining potentials which are smooth perturbations of the harmonic oscillator potential. For a certain class of perturbations we prove that the equation admits a unique stationary solution in a weighted Sobolev space. A key ingredient of the proof is a new result on the existence of spectral gaps for Fokker-Planck type operators in certain weighted $L^2$-spaces. In addition we show that the steady state corresponds to a positive density matrix operator with unit trace and that the solutions of the time-dependent problem converge …
