Given the consensus that pressure improves cation order in most of known materials, a discovery of pressure-induced disorder could require reconsideration of order-disorder transition in solid state physics/chemistry and geophysics. Double perovskites Y2CoIrO6 and Y2CoRuO6 synthesized at ambient pressure show B-site order, while the polymorphs synthesized at 6 and 15 GPa are partially-ordered and disordered respectively. With the decrease of ordering degrees, the lattices are shrunken and the crystal structures alter from monoclinic to orthorhombic symmetry. Correspondingly, long-range ferrimagnetic order in the B-site ordered phases are gradually overwhelmed by B-site disorder. Theoretical calculations suggest that unusual unit cell compressions under external pressures unexpectedly stabilize the disordered phases of Y2CoIrO6 and Y2CoRuO6.
We elucidate a mechanism for obtaining polar behavior in magnetic perovskites based on A-site disorder and demonstrate this mechanism by density functional calculations for the double perovskite (La,Lu)MnNiO$_6$ with Lu concentrations at and below 50%. We show that this material combines polar behavior and ferromagnetism. The mechanism is quite general and may be applicable to a wide range of magnetic perovskites.
With high-resolution photoemission spectroscopy measurements, the density of states (DOS) near the Fermi level ($E_\mathrm{F}$) of double perovskite Sr$_2$FeMoO$_6$ having different degrees of Fe/Mo antisite disorder has been investigated with varying temperature. The DOS near $E_\mathrm{F}$ showed a systematic depletion with increasing degree of disorder, and recovered with increasing temperature. Altshuler-Aronov (AA) theory of disordered metals well explains the dependences of the experimental results. Scaling analysis of the spectra provides experimental indication for the functional form …
Double perovskites like Sr$_2$FeMoO$_6$ are materials with half-metallic ground states and ferrimagnetic T$_{\rm{c}}$'s well above room temperature. This paper is the second of our comprehensive theory for half metallic double perovskites. Here we derive an effective Hamiltonian for the Fe core spins by "integrating out" the itinerant Mo electrons and obtain an unusual double square-root form of the spin-spin interaction. We validate the classical spin Hamiltonian by comparing its results with those of the full quantum treatment presented in the companion paper "Theory of Half-Metallic Double …
Perovskite-like oxides $AB'_{1/2}B''_{1/2}$O$_3$ may experience different ordering degrees of $B$-cations, that can be varied by suitable synthesis conditions or post-synthesis treatment. In this work the earlier proposed statistical model of order-disorder phase transitions of $B$-cations is extended to account for the effect of pressure. Depending on composition, pressure is found to either increase or decrease the order-disorder phase transition temperature. The change of transition temperature due to pressure in many cases reaches several hundreds of kelvin at pressures accessible in labor…
A new 3d-5d hybridized quadruple perovskite oxide, CaCu3Mn2Ir2O12, was synthesized by high-pressure and high-temperature methods. The Rietveld structure analysis reveals that the compound crystallizes in an AA'3B4O12-type perovskite structure with space group Im-3, where the Ca and Cu are 1:3 ordered at fixed atomic positions. At the B site the 3d Mn and the 5d Ir ions are disorderly distributed due to a rare equal +4 charge states for both of them as determined by X-ray absorption spectroscopy. The competing antiferromagnetic and ferromagnetic interactions among Cu2+, Mn4+, and Ir4+ ions give…
The GdFeO$_{3}$-type perovskite CaCoO$_{3}$ has been successfully synthesized by high-pressure oxygen annealing for the oxygen deficient perovskite. A detailed structural analysis based on synchrotron X-ray diffraction data and a thermogravimetric analysis show that the valence of Co is +4 and the sample is free from oxygen deficiency. This compound shows an antiferromagnetic ordering at 95 K, which has presumably helical spin arrangement, with keeping the incoherent metallic state down to the lowest temperature. This work demonstrates that the Co$^{4+}$-perovskite oxides exhibit a variety of …
Anti-site disordering in Sr2FeMoO6 double perovskites (containing Mo atoms at Fe positions, and viceversa) has recently been shown to have a dramatic influence in their magnetic and magnetotransport properties. In the present study, two polycrystalline Sr2FeMoO6 samples showing different degrees of anti-site disorder (a nominally 'ordered' sample with 70% of cationic ordering and a nominally 'disordered' sample with 18% of cationic ordering) have been examined by magnetic measurements and neutron powder diffraction (NPD) techniques in the 15-500K temperature range. Our main finding is that the…
The latent heat (L) of orbital order-disorder transition in single-valent perovskite manganite series La(1-x)R(x)MnO3 (R = Pr, Nd, Gd; x = 0.0-1.0) decreases with the decrease in average R-site radius <r_R> following a universal scaling law L.<r_R>^2/sigma^2 ~ exp (<r_R>), where sigma^2 is the variance in R-site radius, and eventually reaches zero at a critical R-site radius <r_R>_c ~ 1.180 Angstrom. Such a drop in L is due, possibly, to a universal pattern of evolution of finer orbital domain structure with the drop in <r_R> as well as with the increase in sigma^2 irrespective of R-site ion t…
We performed a first-principles study of the structural, vibrational, electronic and magnetic properties of NaMnF3 under applied isotropic pressure. We found that NaMnF3 undergoes a reconstructive phase transition at 8 GPa from the Pnma distorted perovskite structure toward the Cmcm post-perovskite structure. This is confirmed by a sudden change of the Mn-F-Mn bondings where the crystal goes from corner shared octahedra in the Pnma phase to edge shared octahedra in the Cmcm phase. The magnetic ordering also changes from a G-type antiferromagnetic ordering in the Pnma phase to a C-type antiferr…
The double perovskite material \SFMO has the rare and desirable combination of a half-metallic ground state with 100% spin polarization and ferrimagnetic \Tc$\simeq 420$K, well above room temperature. In this two-part paper, we present a comprehensive theoretical study of the magnetic and electronic properties of half metallic double perovskites. In this paper we present exact diagonalization calculations of the "fast" Mo electronic degrees coupled to "slow" Fe core spin fluctuations treated by classical Monte Carlo techniques. From the temperature dependence of the spin-resolved density of st…
Calcium stannate perovskite (CaSnO3) has been studied by Raman spectroscopy at two excitation wavelengths (514.5 nm and 632.8 nm). A new first-order order-disorder phase transition induces Raman frequency shifts and line width doubling at 121C on heating (94C on cooling), seen in experiments using the 514.5 nm line of an Ar+-ion laser. The transition is also seen when using a 623.8 nm He-Ne laser and by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), but without strong order-disorder character, indicating that the phase transition is dependent on photo-excitation. High-temperature powder X-ray diffra…
We use the density functional perturbation theory to determine for the first time the pressure evolution of the Raman intensities for a mineral, the two high-pressure structures of MgSiO3 perovskite and post-perovskite. At high pressures, the Raman powder spectra reveals three main peaks for the perovskite structure and one main peak for the post-perovskite structure. Due to the large differences in the spectra of the two phases Raman spectroscopy can be used as a good experimental indication of the phase transition.
Halide perovskites are semiconductors that exhibit sharp optical absorption edges and small Urbach energies allowing for efficient collection of sunlight in thin-film photovoltaic devices. However, halide perovskites also exhibit large nuclear anharmonic effects and disorder, which is unusual for efficient optoelectronic materials and difficult to rationalize in view of the small Urbach energies that indicate a low amount of disorder. To address this important issue, the disorder potential induced for electronic states by the nuclear dynamics in various paradigmatic halide perovskites is studi…
SrTi0.5Mn0.5O3 (STMO) is a chemically disordered perovskite having random distribution of Ti and Mn over 1b site. Striking discrepancies about the structural and magnetic properties of STMO demands detailed analysis which is addressed. To explore the magnetic ground state of STMO, static and dynamic magnetic properties were studied over a broad temperature range (2-300 K). The dc, ac magnetization show a cusp like peak at Tf ~ 14 K, which exhibits field and frequency dependence. The thermoremanent magnetization is characterized by using stretched exponential function and characteristic time su…
We study the ultrafast phonon response of mixed-valence perovskite Cs$_2$Au$_2$I$_6$ using pump-probe spectroscopy under high-pressure in a diamond anvil cell. We observed a remarkable softening and broadening of the Au - I stretching phonon mode with both applied pressure and photoexcitation. Using a double-pump scheme we measured a lifetime of the charge transfer excitation into single valence Au$^{2+}$ of less than 4 ps, which is an indication of the local character of the Au$^{2+}$ excitation. Furthermore, the strong similarity between the pressure and fluence dependence of the phonon soft…
Motivated by the experiments on the rare-earth double perovskites, we propose a generalized Kitaev-Heisenberg model to describe the generic interaction between the spin-orbit-entangled Kramers' doublets of the rare-earth moments. We carry out a systematic analysis of the mean-field phase diagram of this new model. In the phase diagram, there exist large regions with a continuous U(1) or O(3) degeneracy. Since no symmetry of the model protects such a continuous degeneracy, we predict that the quantum fluctuation lifts the continuous degeneracy and favors various magnetic orders in the phase dia…
Pressure induced phase transitions of MIAgIIF3 perovskites where M = K, Rb, Cs, have been predicted theoretically for the first time for pressures up to 100 GPa. The sequence of phase transitions for M = K and Rb consists of an orthorhombic to monoclinic and back to orthorhombic transition, associated with progressive bending of infinite chains of corner sharing [AgF6]4 minus octahedra and their mutual approaching via secondary Ag...F contacts. In stark contrast, only a single phase transition i.e. tetragonal to triclinic, is predicted for CsAgF3, associated with substantial deformation of the…
The first examples of single crystal epitaxial thin films of a high entropy perovskite oxide are synthesized. Pulsed laser deposition is used to grow the configurationally disordered ABO3 perovskite, Ba(Zr0.2Sn0.2Ti0.2Hf0.2Nb0.2)O3, epitaxially on SrTiO3 and MgO substrates. X-ray diffraction and scanning transmission electron microscopy demonstrate that the films are single phase with excellent crystallinity and atomically abrupt interfaces to the underlying substrates. Atomically-resolved electron energy loss spectroscopy mapping shows a uniform and random distribution of all B-site cations. …
Magnetic structures of metastable perovskites ScCrO3, InCrO3 and TlCrO3, stabilized under high-pressure and high-temperature conditions, have been studied by neutron powder diffraction. Similar to the other orthochromites LnCrO3 (Ln=lanthanide or Y), these materials crystallize into the orthorhombic structure with Pnma10 symmetry. The spin configuration of the metastable perovskites has been found to be C-type, contrasting with the G-type structure usually observed in LnCrO3. First-principles calculations demonstrate that the Ctype structure found in ScCrO3 and InCrO3 is attributed to a ferrom…
Proximity to an orbital order with charge disorder state in optimally-doped \textit{RE}\textsubscript{5/8}Ca\textsubscript{3/8}MnO\textsubscript{3} perovskites
The ordered double perovskites Sr2CrOsO6 and Ca2CrOsO6 have been synthesized and characterized with neutron powder diffraction, electrical transport measurements, and high field magnetization experiments. Sr2CrOsO6 and Ca2CrOsO6 crystallize with R-3 and P21/n space group symmetry, respectively. Both materials are found to be ferrimagnetic insulators with saturation magnetizations near 0.2 μB. Sr2CrOsO6 orders at 660 K, showing non-monotonic magnetization temperature dependence, while Ca2CrOsO6 orders at 490 K and does not show non-monotonic behavior. Evidence for a theoretically predicted cant…
We present a comprehensive theory of the temperature- and disorder-dependence of half-metallic ferrimagnetism in the double perovskite Sr$_2$FeMoO$_6$ (SFMO) with $T_c$ above room temperature. We show that the magnetization $M(T)$ and conduction electron polarization $P(T)$ are both proportional to the magnetization $M_S(T)$ of localized Fe spins. We derive and validate an effective spin Hamiltonian, amenable to large-scale three-dimensional simulations. We show how $M(T)$ and $T_c$ are affected by disorder, ubiquitous in these materials. We suggest a way to enhance $T_c$ in SFMO without sacri…
Effect of hydrostatic pressure and magnetic field on electrical resistance of the Kondo-like perovskite manganese oxide, La$_{0.1}$Ce$_{0.4}$Sr$_{0.5}$MnO$_3$ with a ferrimagnetic ground state, have been investigated up to 2.1 GPa and 9 T. In this compound, the Mn-moments undergo double exchange mediated ferromagnetic ordering at $T_{\rm C}$ $\sim$ 280 K and there is a resistance maximum, $T_{\rm max}$ at about 130 K which is correlated with an antiferromagnetic ordering of {\it cerium} with respect to the Mn-sublattice moments. Under pressure, the $T_{\rm max}$ shifts to lower temperature at …
By means of in situ synchrotron X-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy under hydrostatic pressure, we investigate the structural stability of the quadruple perovskite LaMn7O12. At 34 GPa, the data unveil a first-order structural phase transition from monoclinic I2/m to cubic Im-3 symmetry characterized by a pronounced contraction of the unit cell and by a significant modifications in the Raman phonon modes. The phase transition is also marked by the suppression of Jahn-Teller distortion which is present in the ambient monoclinic phase. In addition, above 20 GPa pressure, a sudden and simulta…
Structural disorder is common in metal-halide perovskites and important for understanding the functional properties of these materials. First-principles methods can address structure variation on the atomistic scale, but they are often limited by the lack of structure-sampling schemes required to characterize the disorder. In this work, structural disorder in the benchmark inorganic halide perovskites CsPbI$_3^{}$ and CsPbBr$_3^{}$ is computationally studied in terms of the three octahedral-tilting angles. The consequent variation in energetics and properties are described by three-dimensional…
An organic-inorganic halide perovskite of CH3NH3SnI3 with significantly improved structural stability is obtained via pressure-induced amorphization and recrystallization. In situ high-pressure resistance measurements reveal an increased electrical conductivity by 300% in the pressure-treated perovskite. Photocurrent measurements also reveal a substantial enhancement in visible-light responsiveness. The mechanism underlying the enhanced properties is demonstrated to be associated with the improved structural stability.
High pressure x-ray diffraction (XRD) measurements on RMnO3 (R=Dy, Ho and Lu) reveals that varying structural changes occurs for different R ions. Large lattice changes (orthorhombic strain) occur in DyMnO3 and HoMnO3 while the Jahn-Teller (JT) distortion remains stable. On the other hand, in LuMnO3, Mn-O bond distortions are observed in the region 4-8 GPa with the broad minimum in the JT distortion. High pressure IR measurements indicate that a phonon near 390 cm-1 corresponding to the complex motion of the Mn and O ions changes anomalously for LuMnO3. It softens in the 4-8 GPa region, which …
Spin crossover plays a central role in the structural instability, net magnetic moment modification, metallization, and even in superconductivity in corresponding materials. Most reports on the pressure-induced spin crossover with a large volume collapse so far focused on compounds with single transition metal. Here we report a comprehensive high-pressure investigation of a mixed Fe-Mn perovskite La2FeMnO6. Under pressure, the strong coupling between Fe and Mn leads to a combined valence/spin transition: Fe3+(S = 5/2) to Fe2+(S = 0) and Mn3+(S = 2) to Mn4+(S = 3/2), with an isostructural phase…
Density functional theory (DFT) based calculations have been conducted to draw a broad picture of pressure induced band structure evolution in various phases of organic and inorganic halide perovskite materials. Under a wide range of pressure applied, distinct band structure behaviors including magnitude change of band gap, direct-indirect/indirect-direct band gap transitions and CBM/VBM shifts, have been observed between organic and inorganic perovskites among different phases. Through atomic and electronic structure calculations, band gap narrowing/widening has been rationalized through crys…
The magnetism of the double perovskite compounds \SLFCOx\ ($x$ = 0, 1, 2) are contrasted using magnetization, neutron diffraction and electron paramagnetic resonance with the support from density functional theory calculations. \LFCO\ is identified as a long-range ordered antiferromagnet displaying a near-room temperature transition at $T_N$ = 270~K, accompanied by a low temperature structural phase transition at $T_S$ = 200~K. The structural phase transformation at $T_S$ occurs from $R\overline{3}c$ at 300~K to $Pnma$ at 200~K. The density functional theory calculations support an insulating …
We propose experimental verification and theoretical explanation of magnetic anomalies in the complex Fe-contained double perovskite multiferroics like PbFe$_{1/2}$Nb$_{1/2}$O$_3$. The theoretical part is based on our model of coexistence of long-range magnetic order and spin glass in the above substances. In our model, the exchange interaction is anisotropic, coupling antiferromagnetically $z$ spin components of Fe$^{3+}$ ions. At the same time, the $xy$ components are coupled by much weaker exchange interaction of ferromagnetic sign. In the system with spatial disorder (half of corresponding…
Inorganic-organic perovskites semiconductors are becoming increasingly interesting due to their remarkable optical properties, such as a high photoluminescence quantum yield and the possibility to show optical gain in a broad range of wavelengths. We have here simulated microcavities that embed MaPBI3 and 2D hybrid organic inorganic perovskite semiconductors by sandwiching such active layers between periodic, aperiodic and disordered photonic structures. We have carefully considered the refractive index dispersion of all the materials employed, such silicon dioxide, titanium dioxide and the pe…
In this paper we provide an accurate high-pressure structural and optical study of MAPbI3 hybrid perovskite. Structural data show the presence of a phase transition towards an orthorhombic structure around 0.3 GPa followed by full amorphization of the system above 3 GPa. After releasing pressure the systems keeps the high-pressure orthorhombic phase. The occurrence of these structural transitions is further confirmed by pressure induced variations of the photoluminescence signal at high pressure. These variations clearly indicate that the bandgap value and the electronic structure of MAPI chan…
Helimagnetic materials are identified as promising for novel spintronic applications. Since helical spin order is manifested as a compromise of competing magnetic exchange interactions, its emergence is limited by unique constraints imposed by the crystalline lattice and the interaction geometries, as exemplified by the multiferroic perovskite manganites with large orthorhombic distortion. Here we show that a simple cubic perovskite SrCoO$_3$ with room-temperature ferromagnetism has the potential to host helimagnetic order upon isotropic lattice expansion. Increasing the Ba content $x$ in Sr$_…
MgGeO$_3$-perovskite is known to be a low-pressure analog of MgSiO$_3$-perovskite in many respects, but especially in regard to the post-perovskite transition. As such, investigation of spin state changes in Fe-bearing MgGeO$_3$ might help to clarify some aspects of this type of state change in Fe-bearing MgSiO$_3$. Using DFT+U calculations, we have investigated pressure induced spin state changes in Fe$^{2+}$ and Fe$^{3+}$ in MgGeO$_3$ perovskite and post-perovskite. Owing to the relatively larger atomic size of germanium compared to silicon, germanate phases have larger unit cell volume and …
We perform density functional calculations of the equilibrium 57Fe/54Fe ratios for ferrous iron dissolved in periclase and MgSiO3 perovskite at the pressures and temperatures of the Earth's mantle. Pressure increases the partitioning of 57Fe into both phases by a factor of three from the Earth's surface to the core-mantle boundary. In ferropericlase, a large contribution to this increase comes from the electronic transition from high-spin to low-spin iron. Our calculations demonstrate that pressure-induced fractionation can play a major role in determining planetary iron-isotope composition.
High-pressure resistivity and x-ray diffraction have been measured on La0.85MnO3-d. At low pressures the metal-insulator transition temperature (TMI) increases linearly with pressure up to a critical pressure, P* ~ 3.4 GPa, which is followed by reduction of TMI with increasing pressure. Analysis of the bond distances and bond angles reveal that a bandwidth increase drives the in-crease of TMI for pressure below P*. The reduction of TMI at higher pressures is found to result from Jahn-Teller distortions of the MnO6 octahedra. The role of anharmonic interatomic potential is discussed.
Doping organic metal-halide perovskites with cesium could be the best solution to stabilize highly-efficient perovskite solar cells. The understanding of the respective roles of the organic molecule, on one hand, and the inorganic lattice, on the other, is thus crucial in order to be able to optimize the physical properties of the mixed-cation structures. In particular, the study of the recombination mechanisms is thought to be one of the key challenges towards full comprehension of their working principles. Using molecular dynamics and frozen phonons, we evidence sub-picosecond anharmonic flu…
Compositional disorder induces myriad captivating phenomena in perovskites. Target-driven discovery of perovskite solid solutions has been a great challenge due to the analytical complexity introduced by disorder. Here, we demonstrate that an unsupervised deep learning strategy can find fingerprints of disordered materials that embed perovskite formability and underlying crystal structure information by learning only from the chemical composition, manifested in (A1-xA'x)BO3 and A(B1-xB'x)O3 formulae. This phenomenon can be capitalized to predict the crystal symmetry of experimental composition…
Ca2-xLaxFeMoO6 double perovskite with La concentration x = 0 to 0.6 was synthesized using solid state sintering route. The standard techniques of XRD, SEM and EDX were applied to characterize the material. Crystal structure of the samples was stabilized in monoclinic phase with space group P2I/n and lattice expansion was indicated with the increase of x. The increase of La concentration gradually suppressed the coexisting minor secondary phase in the material and simultaneously, EDX results indicated the accommodation of more Mo atoms in the crystal structure. A significant modification in the…
The hybrid organic-inorganic lead halide perovskite materials have emerged as remarkable materials for photovoltaic applications. Their strengths include good electric transport properties in spite of the disorder inherent in them. Motivated by this observation, we analyze the effects of disorder on the energy eigenstates of a tight-binding model of these materials. In particular, we analyze the spatial extension of the energy eigenstates, which is quantified by the inverse participation ratio. This parameter exhibits a tendency, and possibly a phase transition, to localization as the on-site …
Evolutionary searches were employed to predict the most stable structures of perovskites with helium atoms on their A-sites up to pressures of 10 GPa. The thermodynamics associated with helium intercalation into [CaZr]F6, structure that [He]2[CaZr]F6 adopts under pressure, and the mechanical properties of the parent perovskite and helium-bearing phase were studied via density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The pressure-temperature conditions where the formation of HeAlF3, HeGaF3, HeInF3, HeScF3 and HeReO3 from elemental helium and the vacant A-site perovskites is favored were found. Our…
A detailed understanding of the carrier dynamics and emission characteristics of organic-inorganic lead halide perovskites is critical for their optoelectronic and energy harvesting applications. In this work, we reveal the impact of the crystal lattice disorder on the photo-generated electron-hole pairs through low-temperature photoluminescence measurements. We provide strong evidence that the intrinsic disorder forms a sub-bandgap tail density of states, which determines the emission properties at low temperature. The PL spectra indicate that the disorder evolves with increasing temperature,…
The magnetic ground state in the double perovskite system Sr2-xCaxCoOsO6 changes from an antiferromagnet (x = 0), to a spin glass (x = 1), to a ferrimagnet (x = 2) as the Ca content increases. This crossover is driven by chemical pressure effects that control the relative strength of magnetic exchange interactions. The synthesis, crystal structure, and magnetism of SrCaCoOsO6 and Ca2CoOsO6 are investigated and compared with Sr2CoOsO6. Both compounds adopt a monoclinic crystal structure with rock salt ordering of Co2+ and Os6+ and a-a-b+ octahedral tilting, but the average Co-O-Os bond angle ev…
Halide perovskites perform remarkably in optoelectronic devices including tandem photovoltaics. However, this exceptional performance is striking given that perovskites exhibit deep charge carrier traps and spatial compositional and structural heterogeneity, all of which should be detrimental to performance. Here, we resolve this long-standing paradox by providing a global visualisation of the nanoscale chemical, structural and optoelectronic landscape in halide perovskite devices, made possible through the development of a new suite of correlative, multimodal microscopy measurements combining…
Perovskite structure is one of the five symmetry families suitable for exhibiting topological insulator phase. However, none of the halides and oxides stabilizing in this structure exhibit the same. Through density functional calculations on cubic perovskites (CsSnX$_3$ ; X = Cl, Br, and I), we predict a band insulator -- Dirac semimetal -- topological insulator phase transition with uniform compression. With the aid of a Slater-Koster tight binding Hamiltonian, we show that, apart from the valence electron count, the band topology of these perovksites is determined by five parameters involvin…
Low as well as high-temperature electron and x-ray diffraction studies have been carried out on a rare-earth free B-site disordered electron-doped manganite SrMn0.875.Mo0.125O3-δ in the temperature range of 83K to 637K. These studies reveal the occurrence of strong charge ordering (CO) at room temperature in a pseudo tetragonally distorted perovskite phase with space-group Pmmm. Non integral modulation vector of 8.95 times along [-110] indicates a charge density wave type modulation. The CO phase with basic perovskite structure Pmmm transforms to a charge disorder cubic phase through a first o…
The archetypal $3d$ Mott insulator hematite, Fe$_2$O$_3$, is one of the basic oxide components playing an important role in mineralogy of Earth's lower mantle. Its high pressure-temperature behavior, such as the electronic properties, equation of state, and phase stability is of fundamental importance for understanding the properties and evolution of the Earth's interior. Here, we study the electronic structure, magnetic state, and lattice stability of Fe$_2$O$_3$ at ultra-high pressures using the density functional plus dynamical mean-field theory (DFT+DMFT) approach. In the vicinity of a Mot…
We analyze the quantum transport properties of MAPbI3 within a tight-binding model. Charge carriers are strongly scattered by the Fröhlich interaction with longitudinal optical phonon modes. This limits their mobilities at room temperature to the order of 200 cm$^2$/Vs. In the presence of additional extrinsic disorder the mobility decreases and a large fraction of the electronic states at band edges can be localized. These states would be insulating if the lattice were static, but their localization is broken by the dynamic disorder induced by the vibrations of the longitudinal optical modes. …
Nitride perovskites are supposed to exhibit excellent properties as oxide analogues and may even have better performance in specific fields for their more covalent characters. However, till now, very limited nitride perovskites have been reported. In this work, a nitride perovskite LaMoN$_3$ has been systematically studied by first-principles calculations. The most interesting physical property is its ferroelectric $R3c$ phase, which can be stabilized under a moderate hydrostatic pressure ($\sim1.5$ GPa) and probably remain meta-stable under the ambient condition. Its ferroelectric polarizatio…
The discovery of novel structural and physical properties in the $A$-site ordered manganite $R$BaMn$_{2}$O$_{6}$ ($R$ = Y and rare earth elements) has demanded new comprehension about perovskite manganese oxides. In the present study, the $A$-site disordered form, $R_{0.5}$Ba$_{0.5}$MnO$_{3}$, has been investigated and compared with both $R$BaMn$_{2}$O$_{6}$ and $R_{0.5}A_{0.5}$MnO$_{3}$ ($A$: Sr, Ca) in the structures and electromagnetic properties. $R_{0.5}$Ba$_{0.5}$MnO$_{3}$ has a primitive cubic perovskite cell in the structure and magnetic glassy states are dominant as its ground state, …
