With the spatial resolution of the Atacama Large Millimetre Array (ALMA), dusty galaxies in the distant Universe typically appear as single, compact blobs of dust emission, with a median half-light radius, $\approx$ 1 kpc. Occasionally, strong gravitational lensing by foreground galaxies or galaxy clusters has probed spatial scales 1-2 orders of magnitude smaller, often revealing late-stage mergers, sometimes with tantalising hints of sub-structure. One lensed galaxy in particular, the Cosmic Eyelash at $z=$ 2.3, has been cited extensively as an example of where the interstellar medium exhibits obvious, pronounced clumps, on a spatial scale of $\approx$ 100 pc. Seven orders of magnitude more luminous than giant molecular clouds in the local Universe, these features are presented as circumstantial evidence that the blue clumps observed in many $z\sim$ 2-3 galaxies are important sites of ongoing star formation, with significant masses of gas and stars. Here, we present data from ALMA which reveal that the dust continuum of the Cosmic Eyelash is in fact smooth and can be reproduced using two Sérsic profiles with effective radii, 1.2 and 4.4 kpc, with no evidence of significant star-forming clumps down to a spatial scale of $\approx$ 80 pc and a star-formation rate of $<$ 3 M$_\odot$ yr$^{-1}$.
We have performed a search among low mass red giants for finding evidence for merger scenario for triggering He-flash and subsequent Li enhancement. We chose a sample of red giants from GALAH survey with well-measured Li abundances, and near and mid-IR fluxes from 2MASS and WISE surveys, respectively. The sample contains 418 cool red clump giants and 359 upper red giant branch giants. Most of the giants and majority of super Li-rich giants show no IR excess. Only five red clump giants and one RGB giant show IR excess. Notably, of the five red clump giants with IR excess, three are super Li-ric…
In this work, we studied the distribution of lithium abundances in giants as a function of stellar mass. We used a sample of 1240 giants common among Kepler photometric and LAMOST medium resolution (R $\approx$ 7500) spectroscopic survey fields. The asteroseismic $Δ$P - $Δν$ diagram is used to define core He-burning red clump giants and red giant branch stars with inert He-core. Li abundances have been derived using spectral synthesis for the entire sample stars. Directly measured values of asteroseismic parameters $Δ$P(or $ΔΠ_1$) and $Δν$ are either taken from the literature or measured in th…
A possibility of applying 2MASS J, H, Ks, IPHAS r, i and MegaCam u, g photometry of red giants for determining distances to dark clouds is investigated. Red clump giants with a small admixture of G5-K1 and M2-M3 stars of the giant branch can be isolated and used in determining distances to separate clouds or spiral arms. The method is applied to an area of the North America and Pelican nebulae complex. Interstellar extinctions of background red giants can be also used for mapping dust surface density in the cloud.
We report the discovery of infalling motion with rotation of S235AB the massive cluster-forming clump (~10^3 Mo) in the S235 region. Our C18O observations with the 45m telescope at the Nobeyama Radio Observatory have revealed the elliptical shape of the clump. Position-velocity (PV) diagram taken along its major axis exhibits two well-defined peaks symmetrically located with respect to the clump center, which is similar to that found for a dynamically infalling envelope with rotation around a single protostar modeled by N. Ohashi and his collaborators, indicating that the cluster-forming clump…
Fragmentation of a spiral arm is thought to drive the formation of giant clumps in galaxies. Using linear perturbation analysis for self-gravitating spiral arms, we derive an instability parameter and define the conditions for clump formation. We extend our analysis to multi-component systems that consist of gas and stars in an external potential. We then perform numerical simulations of isolated disc galaxies with isothermal gas, and compare the results with the prediction of our analytic model. Our model describes accurately the evolution of the spiral arms in our simulations, even when spir…
The RCW 106 molecular cloud complex is an active massive star-forming region where a ministarburst is taking place. We examined its magnetic structure by near-IR polarimetric observations with the imaging polarimeter SIRPOL on the IRSF 1.4 m telescope. The global magnetic field is nearly parallel to the direction of the Galactic plane and the cloud elongation. We derived the magnetic field strength of $\sim100$-$1600~μ$G for 71 clumps with the Davis-Chandrasekhar-Fermi method. We also evaluated the magnetic stability of these clumps and found massive star-forming clumps tend to be magnetically…
WIYN/HYDRA spectra in the Li 6708 Angstrom region have been obtained for 332 probable members of the old open cluster, NGC 6819. Preliminary analysis shows a pattern of Li depletion from the top of the turnoff to the base of the giant branch. Starting one magnitude below the level of the clump, all brighter giants have A(Li) below 1.0, with most having upper limits below 0.5. Star W007017, located BELOW the first-ascent red giant bump is Li-rich with A(Li) = 2.3. As a highly probable single-star astrometric and radial-velocity cluster member, its discrepant asteroseismic membership could be a …
We consider a complete sample of 101810 giants with Gaia DR2 parallaxes $\varpi$ within the red clump domain of the Hertzsprung-Russell diagram in the space cylinder with a radius of 700 pc around the Sun and a height of $|Z|=1800$ pc. We use the Gaia DR2 $G_\mathrm{BP}$, $G_\mathrm{RP}$ and WISE $W3$ photometry. We describe the spatial variations of the modes of the observables $G_\mathrm{BP}-G_\mathrm{RP}$, $G_\mathrm{RP}-W3$, $G_\mathrm{BP}+5+5\,\log_{10}\varpi$, $G_\mathrm{RP}+5+5\,\log_{10}\varpi$, and $W3+5+5\,\log_{10}\varpi$ by extinction and reddening in combination with linear vertic…
We report results of the observations of 15 regions in several molecular lines for a statistical study of massive cluster-forming clumps. We identified 24 clumps based on the C18O (J=1-0) data obtained by the NRO 45 m telescope, and found that 16 of them are associated with young clusters. The clumps associated with clusters have a typical mass, radius, and molecular density of ~1 X 10^3 Mo, ~0.5 pc, ~1 X 10^5 cm^-3, respectively. We categorized the clumps and clusters into four types according to the spatial coincidence of gas and star density, and discussed their evolutions: Clumps without c…
The morphology of massive star-forming galaxies at high redshift is often dominated by giant clumps of mass ~10^8-10^9 Msun and size ~100-1000 pc. Previous studies have proposed that giant clumps might have an important role in the evolution of their host galaxy, particularly in building the central bulge. However, this depends on whether clumps live long enough to migrate from their original location in the disc or whether they get disrupted by their own stellar feedback before reaching the centre of the galaxy. We use cosmological hydrodynamical simulations from the FIRE (Feedback in Realist…
The article deals with observations of star-forming regions S231-S235 in 'quasi-thermal' lines of ammonia (NH$_3$), cyanoacetylene (HC$_3$N) and maser lines of methanol (CH$_3$OH) and water vapor (H$_2$O). S231-S235 regions is situated in the giant molecular cloud G174+2.5. We selected all massive molecular clumps in G174+2.5 using archive CO data. For the each clump we determined mass, size and CO column density. After that we performed observations of these clumps. We report about first detections of NH$_3$ and HC$_3$N lines toward the molecular clumps WB89 673 and WB89 668. This means that …
We present $HST$ narrow-band near-infrared imaging of Pa$α$ and Pa$β$ emission of 48 local Luminous Infrared Galaxies (LIRGs) from the Great Observatories All-Sky LIRG Survey (GOALS). These data allow us to measure the properties of 810 spatially resolved star-forming regions (59 nuclei and 751 extra-nuclear clumps), and directly compare their properties to those found in both local and high-redshift star-forming galaxies. We find that in LIRGs, the star-forming clumps have radii ranging from $\sim90-900$ pc and star formation rates (SFRs) of $\sim1\times10^{-3}$ to 10 M$_\odot$yr$^{-1}$, with…
The observations and evolution of clumpy, high-redshift galaxies are reviewed. Models suggest that the clumps form by gravitational instabilities in a gas-rich disk, interact with each other gravitationally, and then merge in the center where they form a bulge. The model requires smooth gas accretion during galaxy growth.
Lithium abundances for red giants in the GALAH DR3 survey are studied. The rare examples of Li-enriched stars with abundances A(Li) $\geq 1.5$ are confirmed to be He-core burning stars belonging to or evolved from the red clump with similar masses and metallicity: $M\simeq 1.1\pm0.2{\rm M_\odot}$ and [Fe/H] $\simeq-0.3\pm0.3$. Li enrichment over the Li abundance present in a star's predecessor at the tip of the red giant branch likely occurs in all these red clump stars. Examination of the elemental abundances (C to Eu) in the GALAH catalogue shows no anomalous abundances in red clump giants a…
Giant clumps are a characteristic feature of observed high-redshift disk galaxies. We propose that these kpc-sized clumps have a complex substructure and are the result of many smaller clumps self-organizing themselves into clump clusters (CC). This bottom-up scenario is in contrast to the common top-down view that these giant clumps form first and then sub fragment. Using a high resolution hydrodynamical simulation of an isolated, fragmented massive gas disk and mimicking the observations from Genzel et al. (2011) at $z \sim 2$, we find remarkable agreement in many details. The CCs appear as …
We have carried out a survey of the dense clumps associated with 14 embedded clusters in the C^18O (J=1-0) line emission with the Nobeyama 45m telescope in order to understand the formation and evolution of stellar clusters in dense clumps of molecular clouds. We have selected these clusters at distances from 0.3 to 2.1kpc and have mapped about 6' X 6' to 10' X 10'regions (corresponding to 3.8pc X 3.8pc at 2.1kpc) for all the clumps with 22" resolution (corresponding to Jeans length at 2.1kpc). We have obtained dense clumps with radii of 0.40-1.6pc, masses of 150-4600M_sun, and velocity widths…
We investigate the effects of radiation pressure from stars on the survival of the star-forming giant clumps in high-redshift massive disc galaxies, during the most active phase of galaxy formation. The clumps, typically of mass ~10^8-10^9 Msun and radius ~0.5-1, are formed in the turbulent gas-rich discs by violent gravitational instability and then migrate into a central bulge in ~10 dynamical times. We show that the survival or disruption of these clumps under the influence of stellar feedback depends critically on the rate at which they form stars. If they convert a few percent of their ga…
We use the clump giants of the disk as standard candles calibrated from Hipparcos parallaxes in order to map their distribution with two new near-IR surveys of the Galactic plane: UKIDSS-GPS and VVV. We explore different selection cuts of clump giants. We conclude that there is an edge of the stellar disk of the Milky Way at R=13.9+/-0.5kpc along various lines of sight across the galaxy. The effect of the warp is considered, taking fields at different longitudes and above and below the plane. We demonstrate that the edge of the stellar disk of the Milky Way can now be mapped in the near infrar…

Star-forming environments in smoothed particle magnetohydrodynamics simulations II: Re-simulating isolated clumps to determine equivalence of extracted clumps and parent simulations
The Millimetre Astronomy Legacy Team 90 GHz (MALT90) survey has detected high-mass star-forming clumps with anomalous N$_2$H$^+$/HCO$^+$(1-0) integrated intensity ratios that are either unusually high ("N$_2$H$^+$ rich") or unusually low ("N$_2$H$^+$ poor"). With 3 mm observations from the Australia Telescope Compact Array (ATCA), we imaged two N$_2$H$^+$ rich clumps, G333.234-00.061 and G345.144-00.216, and two N$_2$H$^+$ poor clumps, G351.409+00.567 and G353.229+00.672. In these clumps, the N$_2$H$^+$ rich anomalies arise from extreme self-absorption of the HCO$^+$ line. G333.234-00.061 cont…
The availability of asteroseismic constraints for a large number of red giants with CoRoT and in the near future with Kepler, paves the way for detailed studies of populations of galactic-disk red giants. We investigate which information on the observed population can be recovered by the distribution of the observed seismic constraints: the frequency of maximum power of solar-like oscillations ($ν_{max}$) and the large frequency separation ($Δν$). We use the distribution of $ν_{max}$ and of $Δν$ observed by CoRoT in nearly 800 red giants in the first long observational run, as a tool to invest…
We study the effect of sub-grid physics, galaxy mass, structural parameters and resolution on the fragmentation of gas-rich galaxy discs into massive star forming clumps. The initial conditions are set up with the aid of the ARGO cosmological hydrodynamical simulation. Blast-wave feedback does not suppress fragmentation, but reduces both the number of clumps and the duration of the unstable phase. Once formed, bound clumps cannot be destroyed by our feedback model. Widespread fragmentation is promoted by high gas fractions and low halo concentrations. Yet giant clumps $M > 10^8 M_{\odot}$ last…
Luminous compact blue galaxies (LCBGs) have enhanced star formation rates and compact morphologies. We combine Sloan Digital Sky Survey data with HI data of 29 LCBGs at redshift z~0 to understand their nature. We find that local LCBGs have high atomic gas fractions (~50%) and star formation rates per stellar mass consistent with some high redshift star forming galaxies. Many local LCBGs also have clumpy morphologies, with clumps distributed across their disks. Although rare, these galaxies appear to be similar to the clumpy star forming galaxies commonly observed at z~1-3. Local LCBGs separate…
Massive, star-forming clumps are a common feature of high-redshift star-forming galaxies. How they formed, and why they are so rare at low redshift, remains unclear. In this paper we identify the largest yet sample of clumpy galaxies (7,052) at low redshift using data from the citizen science project \textit{Galaxy Zoo: Clump Scout}, in which volunteers classified over 58,000 Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) galaxies spanning redshift $0.02 < z < 0.15$. We apply a robust completeness correction by comparing with simulated clumps identified by the same method. Requiring that the ratio of clump-t…
We analyse stellar masses of clumps drawn from a compilation of star-forming galaxies at 1.1<z<3.6. Comparing clumps selected in different ways, and in lensed or blank field galaxies, we examine the effects of spatial resolution and sensitivity on the inferred stellar masses. Large differences are found, with median stellar masses ranging from ~10^9 Msun for clumps in the often-referenced field galaxies to ~10^7 Msun for fainter clumps selected in deep-field or lensed galaxies. We argue that the clump masses, observed in non-lensed galaxies with a limited spatial resolution of ~1 kpc, are arti…
Observations of distinct positions in Orion and W3 revealed ripples on the HCN(1-0), HCO^+(1-0) and CO(1-0) line profiles which can be result of emission of large number of unresolved thermal clumps in the beam that move with random velocities. The total number of such clumps are ~(0.4-4) 10^5 for the areas with linear sizes ~0.1-0.5 pc.
We have carried out mapping observations of molecular emission lines of HC$_{3}$N and CH$_{3}$OH toward two massive cluster-forming clumps, NGC2264-C and NGC2264-D, using the Nobeyama 45-m radio telescope. We derive an $I$(HC$_{3}$N)/$I$(CH$_{3}$OH) integrated intensity ratio map, showing a higher value at clumps including 2MASS point sources at the northern part of NGC2264-D. Possible interpretations of the $I$(HC$_{3}$N)/$I$(CH$_{3}$OH) ratio are discussed. We have also observed molecular emission lines from CCS and N$_{2}$H$^{+}$ toward five positions in each clump. We investigate the $N$(N…
Known sources of lithium (Li) in the universe include the big bang, novae, asymptotic giant branch stars, and cosmic ray spallation. During their longer-lived evolutionary phases, stars are not expected to add to the Li budget of the Galaxy, but to largely deplete it. In this context, recent analyses of Li data from GALAH and LAMOST for field red clump (RC) stars have concluded that there is the need for a new production channel of Li, ubiquitous among low-mass stars, and that would be triggered on the upper red giant branch (RGB) or at helium ignition. This is distinct from the "Li-rich giant…
G305 star-forming complex was observed in the 3-2 lines of 12 & 13CO to investigate the effect of feedback from the central OB stars on the complex. The region was decomposed into clumps using dendrogram analysis. A catalog of the clump properties was created. The surface mass densities of the clumps were plotted as a function of the incident 8um flux. A mask of the region with 8um flux >100 MJy/sr was created and clumps were categorized based on the extent of overlap with the mask into "mostly inside" , "partly inside'", & "outside". The surface mass density distribution of each of these popu…
The Tycho-2 proper motions and Tycho-2 and 2MASS photometry are used to select 97348 red giant clump (RGC) stars. The interstellar extinction and photometric distance are calculated for each of the stars. The selected stars are shown to form a selection-unbiased sample of RGC stars within about 350 pc of the Sun with the addition of more distant stars. The distribution of the selected stars in space and their motion are consistent with the assumption that the RGC contains Galactic disk stars with various ages and metallicities, including a significant fraction of stars younger than 1 Gyr with …
Giant stellar clumps are ubiquitous in high-redshift galaxies. They are thought to play an important role in the build-up of galactic bulges and as diagnostics of star formation feedback in galactic discs. Hubble Space Telescope (HST) blank field imaging surveys have estimated that these clumps have masses up to 10$^{9.5}$ M$_{\odot}$ and linear sizes larger than ~1 kpc. Recently, gravitational lensing has also been used to get higher spatial resolution. However, both recent lensed observations and models suggest that the clumps properties may be overestimated by the limited resolution of stan…
In this paper, we investigate the extent to which observations of molecular clouds can correctly identify and measure star-forming clumps. We produced a synthetic column density map and a synthetic spectral-line data cube from the simulated collapse of a 5000 M$_{\odot}$ molecular cloud. By correlating the clumps found in the simulation to those found in the synthetic observations, clump masses derived from spectral-line data cubes were found to be quite close to the true physical properties of the clumps. We also find that the `observed' clump mass function derived from the column density map…
Here we present the first results from ALMA observations of 1 mm polarized dust emission towards the W43-MM1 high mass star forming clump. We have detected a highly fragmented filament with source masses ranging from 14Msun to 312Msun, where the largest fragment, source A, is believed to be one of the most massive in our Galaxy. We found a smooth, ordered, and detailed polarization pattern throughout the filament which we used to derived magnetic field morphologies and strengths for 12 out of the 15 fragments detected ranging from 0.2 to 9 mG. The dynamical equilibrium of each fragment was eva…
We use deep learning to explore the nature of observed giant clumps in high-redshift disc galaxies, based on their identification and classification in cosmological simulations. Simulated clumps are detected using the 3D gas and stellar densities in the VELA zoom-in cosmological simulation suite, with $\sim \!\! 25\ \!\rm{pc}$ maximum resolution, targeting main sequence galaxies at $1\!<\!z\!<\!3$. The clumps are classified as long-lived clumps (LLCs) or short-lived clumps (SLCs) based on their longevity in the simulations. We then train neural networks to detect and classify the simulated clu…
We study young star-forming clumps on physical scales of 10-500 pc in the Lyman-Alpha Reference Sample (LARS), a collection of low-redshift (z = 0.03-0.2) UV-selected star-forming galaxies. In each of the 14 galaxies of the sample, we detect clumps for which we derive sizes and magnitudes in 5 UV-optical filters. The final sample includes $\sim$1400 clumps, of which $\sim$600 have magnitude uncertainties below 0.3 in all filters. The UV luminosity function for the total sample of clumps is described by a power-law with slope $α= -2.03^{+0.11}_{-0.13}$. Clumps in the LARS galaxies have on avera…
An Indication of Gas Inflow in Clumpy Star-Forming Galaxies near $z\sim1$: Lower Gas-Phase Metallicities in Clumpy Galaxies Compared to Non-Clumpy Galaxies
We have conducted a search for ionized gas at 3.6 cm, using the Very Large Array, towards 31 Galactic intermediate- and high-mass clumps detected in previous millimeter continuum observations. In the 10 observed fields, 35 HII regions are identified, of which 20 are newly discovered. Many of the HII regions are multiply peaked indicating the presence of a cluster of massive stars. We find that the ionized gas tends to be associated towards the millimeter clumps; of the 31 millimeter clumps observed, 9 of these appear to be physically related to ionized gas, and a further 6 have ionized gas emi…
To indirectly study the internal structure of giant clumps in main sequence galaxies at $z \sim 1-3$, we target very turbulent and gas-rich local analogues from the DYNAMO sample with the Hubble Space Telescope, over a wavelength range of $\sim 200-480$ nm. We present a catalog of 58 clumps identified in six DYNAMO galaxies, including the WFC3/UVIS F225W, F336W, and F467M photometry where the ($225-336$) and ($336-467$) colours are sensitive to extinction and stellar population age respectively. We measure the internal colour gradients of clumps themselves to study their age and extinction pro…
We examine the nature of kpc-scale clumps seen in high-redshift galaxies using a suite of cosmological simulations of galaxy formation. We identify rest-frame UV clumps in mock HST images smoothed to 500 pc resolution, and compare them with the intrinsic 3D clumps of young stars identified in the simulations with 100 pc resolution. According to this comparison, we expect that the stellar masses of the observed clumps are overestimated by as much as an order of magnitude, and that the sizes of these clumps are also overestimated by factor of several, due to a combination of spatial resolution a…
The goal of this paper is to study the spatial distribution of HNCO in massive star-forming regions, and investigate its spatial association with infrared sources, as well as physical conditions in region of HNCO emission. We have mapped nine massive star-forming regions in HNCO 5$_{05}-4_{04}$ with the Purple Mountain Observatory 13.7m telescope. The C18O maps of these sources were obtained simultaneously. The HNCO emission shows compact distribution, with emission peak centred on water masers. Nearly all the HNCO clumps show signs of embedded mid-infrared or far-infrared sources. The FWHM si…
Interstellar CO2 is an important reservoir of carbon and oxygen, and one of the major constituents of the icy mantles of dust grains, but it is not observable directly in the cold gas because has no permanent dipole moment. Its protonated form, HOCO+, is believed to be a good proxy for gaseous CO2. However, it has been detected in only a few star-forming regions so far, so that its interstellar chemistry is not well understood. We present new detections of HOCO+ lines in 11 high-mass star-forming clumps. Our observations increase by more than three times the number of detections in star-formin…
When the cosmic star formation history peaks (z ~ 2), galaxies vigorously fed by cosmic reservoirs are gas dominated and contain massive star-forming clumps, thought to form by violent gravitational instabilities in highly turbulent gas-rich disks. However, a clump formation event has not been witnessed yet, and it is debated whether clumps survive energetic feedback from young stars, thus migrating inwards to form galaxy bulges. Here we report spatially resolved spectroscopy of a bright off-nuclear emission line region in a galaxy at z = 1.987. Although this region dominates the star formatio…
Star-forming clumps dominate the rest-frame ultraviolet morphology of galaxies at the peak of cosmic star formation. If turbulence driven fragmentation is the mechanism responsible for their formation, we expect their stellar mass function to follow a power-law of slope close to $-2$. We test this hypothesis performing the first analysis of the stellar mass function of clumps hosted in galaxies at $z\sim 1-3.5$. The clump sample is gathered from the literature with similar detection thresholds and stellar masses determined in a homogeneous way. To overcome the small number statistics per galax…
Star-forming disk galaxies at high redshift are often subject to violent disk instability, characterized by giant clumps whose fate is yet to be understood. The main question is whether the clumps disrupt within their dynamical timescale (<50Myr), like molecular clouds in today's galaxies, or whether they survive stellar feedback for more than a disk orbital time (~300Myr) in which case they can migrate inward and help building the central bulge. We present 3.5-7pc resolution AMR simulations of high-redshift disks including photo-ionization, radiation pressure, and supernovae feedback (Renaud …
We report new, $\sim$1000 AU spatial resolution observations of 225 GHz dust continuum emission towards the OB cluster-forming molecular clump G33.92+0.11. On parsec scales, this molecular clump presents a morphology with several arm-like dense gas structures surrounding the two central massive ($\gtrsim$100 $M_{\odot}$) cores. From the new, higher resolution observations, we identified 28 localized, spatially compact dust continuum emission sources, which may be candidates of young stellar objects. Only one of them is not embedded within known arm-like (or elongated) dense gas structures. The…

Based on the Gaia DR1 TGAS parallaxes and photometry from the Tycho-2, Gaia, 2MASS, and WISE catalogues, we have produced a sample of about 100 000 clump red giants within about 800 pc of the Sun. The systematic variations of the mode of their absolute magnitude as a function of the distance, magnitude, and other parameters have been analyzed. We show that these variations reach 0.7 mag and cannot be explained by variations in the interstellar extinction or intrinsic properties of stars and by selection. The only explanation seems to be a systematic error of the Gaia DR1 TGAS parallax dependen…
We report novel observational evidence on the evolutionary status of lithium-rich giant stars by combining asteroseismic and lithium abundance data. Comparing observations and models of the asteroseismic gravity-mode period spacing $ΔΠ_{1}$, we find that super-Li-rich giants (SLR, A(Li)~$> 3.2$~dex) are almost exclusively young red-clump (RC) stars. Depending on the exact phase of evolution, which requires more data to refine, SLR stars are either (i) less than $\sim 2$~Myr or (ii) less than $\sim40$~Myr past the main core helium flash (CHeF). Our observations set a strong upper limit for the …
We present a pixelized source reconstruction method applied on Integral Field Spectroscopic (IFS) observations of gravitationally lensed galaxies. We demonstrate the effectiveness of this method in a case study on the clumpy morphology of a $z \sim 2$ lensed galaxy behind a group-scale lens. We use a Bayesian forward source modelling approach to reconstruct the surface brightness distribution of the source galaxy on a uniformly pixelized grid while accounting for the image point spread function (PSF). The pixelated approach is sensitive to clump sizes down to 100 pc and resolves smaller clump …
