We apply the transverse momentum dependent factorization formalism to investigate the transverse single spin dependent Collins asymmetry with a $\sin(ϕ_h+ϕ_s)$ modulation in the semi-inclusive production of Kaon meson in deep inelastic scattering process. The asymmetry is contributed by the convolutions of the transversity distribution function $h_1(x)$ of the target proton and the Collins function of the Kaon in the final state. We adopt the available parametrization of $h_1(x)$ as well as the recent extracted result for the Kaon Collins function. To perform the transverse momentum dependent evolution, the parametrization of the nonperturbative Sudakov form factor of the proton and final state Kaon are utilized. We numerically predict the Collins asymmetry for charged Kaon production at the electron ion colliders within the accuracy of next-to-leading-logarithmic order. It is found that the asymmetry is sizable and could be measured. We emphasize the importance of planned electron ion colliders in the aspect of constraining sea quark distribution functions as well as accessing the information of the nucleon spin structure and the hadronization mechanism.
Exclusive electroproduction of hard dijets can be described within the collinear factorization. This process has clear experimental signature and provides one with an interesting alternative venue to test QCD description of hard diffractive processes and extract information on generalized nucleon parton distributions. In this work we present detailed leading-order QCD calculations of the relevant cross sections, including longitudinal momentum fraction distribution of the dijets and their azimuthal angle dependence.
We estimate Sivers asymmetry in low virtuality photoproduction of $J/ψ$ using color evaporation model and taking into account $Q^2$- evolution of transverse momentum dependent PDF's and Sivers function. There is a substantial reduction in asymmetry as compared to our previous analysis wherein the $Q^2$-dependance came only from DGLAP evolution of collinear part of TMDs. The estimates of asymmetry are comparable to our earlier estimates in which we had used analytical solution of only an approximated form of the evolution equations. We have also estimated asymmetry using the latest parametrizat…
We examine some of the complications involved when combining (matching) TMD factorization with collinear factorization to allow accurate predictions over the whole range of measured transverse momentum in a process like Drell-Yan. Then we propose some improved methods for combining the two types of factorization. (This talk is based on work reported in arXiv:1605.00671.)
We present the first determination of transverse momentum dependent (TMD) photon densities with the Parton Branching method. The photon distribution is generated perturbatively without intrinsic photon component. The input parameters for quarks and gluons are determined from fits to precision measurements of deep inelastic scattering cross sections at HERA. The TMD densities are used to predict the mass and transverse momentum spectra of very high mass lepton pairs from both Drell-Yan production and Photon-Initiated lepton processes at the LHC.
Proof of transverse-momentum-dependent(TMD) factorization for hadron-hadron collision is given in this paper. We focus on processes without detected soft final hadrons or detected final hadrons that are collinear to initial hadrons. This contradicts the widely accepted viewpoint that TMD- factorization does not hold in such processes even in the generalized sense. The key point is that singular points of the type l+ = 0 can be absorbed into Wilson lines of soft gluons, where l is collinear to the plus direction. Thus one should subtract such singular points from the collinear region of l. Afte…
The focus of this talk is on the transverse components of parton momenta. Like for collinear parton distribution functions (PDFs), we are also in the case of transverse momentum dependent (TMD) PDFs, talking about forward matrix elements. While the collinear PDFs describe only spin-spin correlations, the TMD PDFs (or in short TMDs) include spin-momentum correlations, including also time-reversal-odd (T-odd) correlations. The latter are important in the description of single spin asymmetries. In this way TMDs open up new ways of studying the spin structure of hadrons or they can be used as tool…
Transverse momentum dependent (TMD) distributions match collinear parton density functions (PDF) in the limit of small transverse distances, which is accounted for by global extractions of TMD distributions. We study the influence of the collinear PDF value and uncertainties on the determination of unpolarized TMD distributions and the description of Drell-Yan (DY) and Z-boson production measurements at low transverse momenta. We take into account, for the first time, flavor-dependent non-perturbative TMD profiles. We carry out a Bayesian analysis to incorporate the propagation of PDF uncertai…
We study parton-branching solutions of QCD evolution equations and present a method to construct both collinear and transverse momentum dependent (TMD) parton densities from this approach. We work with next-to-leading-order (NLO) accuracy in the strong coupling. Using the unitarity picture in terms of resolvable and non-resolvable branchings, we analyze the role of the soft-gluon resolution scale in the evolution equations. For longitudinal momentum distributions, we find agreement of our numerical calculations with existing evolution programs at the level of better than 1 percent over a range…
Collinear and transverse momentum dependent (TMD) parton densities are obtained from fits to precision measurements of deep inelastic scattering (DIS) cross sections at HERA. The parton densities are evolved by DGLAP evolution with next-to-leading-order (NLO) splitting functions using the parton branching method, allowing one to determine simultaneously collinear and TMD densities for all flavors over a wide range in $x$, $μ^2$ and $k_t$, relevant for predictions at the LHC. The DIS cross section is computed from the parton densities using perturbative NLO coefficient functions. Parton densiti…
Relying on the collinear factorization approach, we demonstrate that H1 and ZEUS measurements of exclusive light vector meson and photon electroproduction cross sections can be simultaneously described for photon virtualities of $Q >2 GeV$. Our findings reveal that quark exchanges are important in this small $x_{Bj}$ region and that in leading order approximation the gluonic skewness ratio is much smaller than one.
We review the current status of collinear and Transverse Momentum Dependent densities based on the Parton Branching method. We investigate the performance of the PB-TMD evolution as well as PB-TMD parton shower with different configurations of the hard process in the four- and five-flavour schemes.
We assess the current phenomenological status of transverse momentum dependent (TMD) parton distribution functions (PDFs) and fragmentation functions (FFs) and study the effect of consistently including perturbative QCD (pQCD) evolution. Our goal is to initiate the process of establishing reliable, QCD-evolved parametrizations for the TMD PDFs and TMD FFs that can be used both to test TMD-factorization and to search for evidence of the breakdown of TMD-factorization that is expected for certain processes. In this article, we focus on spin-independent processes because they provide the simplest…
In this contribution TMD evolution of azimuthal asymmetries, in particular of the Sivers and double Collins asymmetries, is addressed. A comparison of the scale dependence is made between asymmetries described with TMD factorization at low transverse momentum and those described with collinear factorization at high transverse momentum. Finally, the advantages of Bessel weighting are discussed: convergence of transverse momentum integrals, suppression of large transverse momentum contributions, and well-defined lattice QCD evaluations of Bessel-weighted TMDs including proper gauge links.
The Sivers transverse single spin asymmetry (TSSA) is calculated and compared at different scales using the TMD evolution equations applied to previously existing extractions. We apply the Collins-Soper-Sterman (CSS) formalism, using the version recently developed by Collins. Our calculations rely on the universality properties of TMD-functions that follow from the TMD-factorization theorem. Accordingly, the non-perturbative input is fixed by earlier experimental measurements, including both polarized semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering (SIDIS) and unpolarized Drell-Yan (DY) scattering. I…
In the original Collins-Soper-Sterman (CSS) presentation of the results of transverse-momentum-dependent (TMD) factorization for the Drell-Yan process, results for perturbative coefficients can be obtained from calculations for collinear factorization. Here we show how to use these results, plus known results for the quark form factor, to obtain coefficients for TMD factorization in more recent formulations, e.g., that due to Collins, and apply them to known results at order $α_s^2$ and $α_s^3$. We also show that the "non-perturbative" functions as obtained from fits to data are equal in the t…
Transverse-momentum dependent (TMD) light-cone wave functions of a light meson are important ingredients in the TMD QCD factorization of exclusive processes. This factorization allows one conveniently resum Sudakov logarithms appearing in collinear factorization. The TMD light-cone wave functions are not simply related to the standard light-cone wave functions in collinear factorization by integrating them over the transverse momentum. We explore relations between TMD light-cone wave functions and those in the collinear factorization. Two factorized relations can be found. One is helpful for c…
We show how transverse momentum dependent gluon distributions could be probed at a future Electron-Ion Collider through the analysis of transverse momentum spectra and azimuthal asymmetries in the inclusive electroproduction of $J/ψ$ and $Υ$ mesons. The maximum values of these asymmetries, obtained in a model-independent way by imposing the positivity bounds of the polarized gluon distributions, suggest the feasibility of the proposed measurements.
Following an earlier derivation by Catani-de Florian-Grazzini (2000) on the scheme dependence in the Collins-Soper-Sterman (CSS) resummation formalism in hard scattering processes, we investigate the scheme dependence of the Transverse Momentum Distributions (TMDs) and their applications. By adopting a universal $C$-coefficient function associated with the integrated parton distributions, the difference between various TMD schemes can be attributed to a perturbative calculable function depending on the hard momentum scale. We further apply several TMD schemes to the Drell-Yan process of lepton…
We construct an improved implementation for combining transverse-momentum-dependent (TMD) factorization and collinear factorization. TMD factorization is suitable for low transverse momentum physics, while collinear factorization is suitable for high transverse momenta and for a cross section integrated over transverse momentum. The result is a modified version of the standard $W+Y$ prescription traditionally used in the Collins-Soper-Sterman (CSS) formalism and related approaches. We further argue that questions regarding the shape and $Q$-dependence of the cross sections at lower $Q$ are lar…
There is considerable controversy about the size and importance of nonperturbative contributions to the evolution of transverse-momentum-dependent (TMD) parton distribution functions. Standard fits to relatively high-energy Drell-Yan data give evolution that when taken to lower Q is too rapid to be consistent with recent data in semi-inclusive deeply inelastic scattering. Some authors provide very different forms for TMD evolution, even arguing that nonperturbative contributions at large transverse distance b_T are not needed or are irrelevant. Here, we systematically analyze the issues, both …
I show that the forms of the Collins-Soper-Sterman and renormalization-group equations for the evolution of transverse-momentum-dependent (TMD) parton densities in QCD follow from the structure of TMD factorization. A derivation does not need to directly use detailed properties of the operator definition of the TMD parton densities.
By considering semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering and the (complementary) $q_T$-spectrum for Drell-Yan lepton pair production we derive the QCD evolution for all the leading-twist transverse momentum dependent distribution and fragmentation functions. We argue that all of those functions evolve with $Q^2$ following a \emph{single} evolution kernel. This kernel is independent of the underlying kinematics and it is also spin-independent. Those features hold, in impact parameter space, to all values of $b_T$. The evolution kernel presented has all of its large logarithms resummed up next-to…
The Collins-Soper kernel relates transverse momentum-dependent parton distribution functions (TMDPDFs) at different energy scales. For small parton transverse momentum $q_T\sim Λ_\text{QCD}$, this kernel is non-perturbative and can only be determined with controlled uncertainties through experiment or first-principles calculations. This work presents the first exploratory determination of the Collins-Soper kernel using the lattice formulation of Quantum Chromodynamics. In a quenched calculation, the $N_f=0$ kernel is determined at scales in the range 250 MeV $< q_T < 2$ GeV, and an analysis of…
We introduce the transverse momentum dependent fragmenting jet function (TMDFJF), which appears in factorization theorems for cross sections for jets with an identified hadron. These are functions of $z$, the hadron's longitudinal momentum fraction, and transverse momentum, $\boldsymbol{\mathrm{p}}_{\perp}$, relative to the jet axis. In the framework of Soft-Collinear Effective Theory (SCET) we derive the TMDFJF from both a factorized SCET cross section and the TMD fragmentation function defined in the literature. The TMDFJFs are factorized into distinct collinear and soft-collinear modes by m…
Transverse-momentum-dependent parton distribution functions (TMDs) can be studied from first principles by a perturbative matching onto lattice-calculable quantities: so-called lattice TMDs, which are a class of equal-time correlators that includes quasi-TMDs and TMDs in the Lorentz-invariant approach. We introduce a general correlator that includes as special cases these two Lattice TMDs and continuum TMDs, like the Collins scheme. Then, to facilitate the derivation of a factorization relation between lattice and continuum TMDs, we construct a new scheme, the Large Rapidity (LR) scheme, inter…
In this work we directly fit the QCD dimensional transmutation parameter, ${Λ_{\overline {MS} }}$, to experimental data of Drell-Yan (DY) observables. For this purpose we first obtain the evolution of transverse momentum dependent parton distribution functions (TMDPDFs) up to the NNLO approximation based on Collins-Sopper-Sterman formalism. As is expecting the TMDPDFs are appearing at larger values of transvers momentum by increasing the energy scales and also the order of approximation. Then we calculate the cross section related to the TMDPDFs in the DY process. As a consequence of fitting t…
We calculate the amplitude for exclusive electroweak production of a pseudoscalar $D_s$ or a vector $D^*_s$ charmed strange meson on an unpolarized nucleon, through a charged current, in leading order in $α_s$. We work in the framework of the collinear QCD approach where generalized gluon distributions factorize from perturbatively calculable coefficient functions. We include both $O(m_c)$ terms in the coefficient functions and $O(M_D)$ mass term contributions in the heavy meson distribution amplitudes. We show that this process may be accessed at future electron-ion colliders.
We present new results of our studies of soft-gluon angular ordering effects on the evolution of both collinear and transverse momentum dependent (TMD) parton distribution functions, and discuss their implications for precision predictions of Drell-Yan transverse momentum spectra at the LHC. Our method is based on the parton branching (PB) approach. We compare this with the implementation of angular ordering in the Kimber-Martin-Ryskin-Watt (KMRW) approach and with the Collins-Soper-Sterman (CSS) approach. We illustrate numerically the effects of different ordering scenarios ($p_{\bot}$, angul…
We discuss our recent study of the impact of collinear PDFs and their uncertainties on the determination of transverse momentum dependent (TMD) distributions and the description of Drell-Yan (DY) production measurements at low transverse momenta. Using QCD factorization and evolution in transverse coordinate b space, this study takes into account for the first time flavor-dependent non-perturbative b-profiles. It illustrates that collinear PDF uncertainties and non-perturbative TMD flavor dependence are both essential to obtain reliable TMD determinations.
We present a solution of the DGLAP evolution equations, written in terms of Sudakov form factors to describe the branching and no-branching probabilities, using a parton branching Monte Carlo method. We demonstrate numerically that this method reproduces the semi-analytical solutions. We show how this method can be used to determine Transverse Momentum Dependent (TMD) parton distribution functions, in addition to the usual integrated parton distributions functions. We discuss numerical effects of the boundary of soft gluon resolution scale parameter on the resulting parton distribution functio…
This work presents a lattice quantum chromodynamics (QCD) calculation of the nonperturbative Collins-Soper kernel, which describes the rapidity evolution of quark transverse-momentum-dependent parton distribution functions. The kernel is extracted at transverse momentum scales in the range 400 MeV $< q_T < 1.7$ GeV in a calculation with dynamical fermions and quark masses corresponding to a larger-than-physical pion mass, $m_π=538(1)$ MeV. It is found that different approaches to extract the Collins-Soper kernel from the same underlying lattice QCD matrix elements yield significantly different…
We discuss Transverse Momentum Dependent (TMD) gluon distributions within high energy factorization at next-to-leading order in the strong coupling within the framework of Lipatov's high energy effective action. We provide a detailed discussion of both rapidity divergences related to the TMD definition and its soft factor on the one hand, and rapidity divergences due to high energy factorization on the other hand, and discuss common features and differences between Collins-Soper (CS) and Balitsky-Fadin-Kuarev-Lipatov (BFKL) evolution. While we confirm earlier results which state that the unpol…
We present a complete set of transverse momentum dependent and collinear parton densities including the photon over a wide phase space. The photon density appears when evolving parton distributions with QED corrections. The photons are produced by perturbative radiation using the Parton Branching method. The QCD partons are constrained by a fit to HERA data. The lepton pair production at high masses is described within the extracted TMD densities.
We study the evolution of the small $x$ gluon transverse momentum dependent(TMD) distribution in the dilute limit. The calculation has been carried out in the Ji-Ma-Yuan scheme using a simple quark target model. As expected, we find that the resulting small $x$ gluon TMD simultaneously satisfies both the Collins-Soper(CS) evolution equation and the Balitsky-Fadin-Kuraev-Lipatov(BFKL) evolution equation. We thus confirmed the earlier finding that the high energy factorization(HEF) and the TMD factorization should be jointly employed to resum the different type large logarithms in a process wher…
At small transverse momentum $q_T$, transverse-momentum dependent parton distribution functions (TMDPDFs) arise as genuinely nonperturbative objects that describe Drell-Yan like processes in hadron collisions as well as semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering. TMDPDFs naturally depend on the hadron momentum, and the associated evolution is determined by the Collins-Soper equation. For $q_T \sim Λ_\mathrm{QCD}$ the corresponding evolution kernel (or anomalous dimension) is nonperturbative and must be determined as an independent ingredient in order to relate TMDPDFs at different scales. We pro…
We investigate the scale dependence of transverse momentum dependent(TMD) gluon distribution in saturation regime. We found that in the Collins-2011 scheme, the scale dependence of small x gluon TMD is governed by the same renormalization group(RG) equation that holds at moderate or large $x$. Following the standard procedure, one then can resum both double leading logarithm and single leading logarithm in saturation regime by jointly solving the Collins-Soper equation and the RG equation.
Recent BELLE measurements provide the cross section for single hadron production in $e^+e^-$ annihilations, differential in thrust and in the hadron transverse momentum with respect to the thrust axis. Universality breaking effects due to process-dependent soft factors make it very difficult to relate this cross sections to those corresponding to hadron-pair production in $e^+e^-$ annihilations, where transverse momentum dependent (TMD) factorization can be applied. The correspondence between these two cross sections is examined in the framework of the Collins-Soper-Sterman factorization, in t…
In the TMD approach, the average transverse momentum of the unpolarised TMD PDFs and FFs is crucial not only to reproduce unpolarised cross sections and hadron multiplicities, but also for the understanding of azimuthal and spin asymmetries. Information on these transverse momenta is nowadays obtained mainly by fitting multiplicities data for SIDIS, where the intrinsic motion in the initial parton distributions and in the hadronisation process are strongly correlated and difficult to estimate separately without ambiguities. In this contribution we discuss the consequences of this correlation e…
The Collins-Soper kernel, which governs the energy evolution of transverse-momentum dependent parton distribution functions (TMDPDFs), is required to accurately predict Drell-Yan like processes at small transverse momentum, and is a key ingredient for extracting TMDPDFs from experiment. Earlier we proposed a method to calculate this kernel from ratios of the so-called quasi-TMDPDFs determined with lattice QCD, which are defined as hadronic matrix elements of staple-shaped Euclidean Wilson line operators. Here we provide the one-loop renormalization of these operators in a regularization-indepe…
We consider the structure of divergences in Drell-Yan process with small transverse momentum. The factorization proof is not trivial because various kinds of divergences are intertwined in the collinear and soft parts at high orders. We prescribe a method to disentangle the divergences in the framework of the soft-collinear effective theory. The rapidity divergence is handled by introducing the $δ$ regulator in the collinear Wilson lines. The collinear part, which consists of the transverse-momentum-dependent parton distribution function (TMDPDF), is free of the rapidity divergence after the s…
We study the transverse momentum dependent (TMD) evolution of the Collins azimuthal asymmetries in $e^+e^-$ annihilations and semi-inclusive hadron production in deep inelastic scattering (SIDIS) processes. All the relevant coefficients are calculated up to the next-to-leading logarithmic (NLL) order accuracy. By applying the TMD evolution at the approximate NLL order in the Collins-Soper-Sterman (CSS) formalism, we extract transversity distributions for $u$ and $d$ quarks and Collins fragmentation functions from current experimental data by a global analysis of the Collins asymmetries in back…
Heavy quarkonium ($Υ$) production at low transverse momentum ($P_\perp$) in high-energy hadronic collisions is revisited from the point of view of transverse momentum dependent (TMD) framework. We perform resummation of double logarithmic correction associated with initial-state soft gluon shower for $b\bar b$ production by employing Collins-Soper-Sterman (CSS) formalism. We show that the CSS formalism provides a nice description of $Υ$ production data in p+$\rm\bar{p}$ collisions at Tevatron and p+p collisions at the LHC.
We evaluate the light-cone operator product expansion for the unpolarized transverse momentum dependent (TMD) operator in the background-field technique up twist-3 inclusively. The next-to-leading order (NLO) matching coefficient for the Sivers function is derived. The method, as well as many details of the calculation, are presented.

The procedure for calculation of the QCD evolution of transverse momentum dependent distributions within the covariant approach is suggested. The standard collinear QCD evolution together with the requirements of relativistic invariance and rotational symmetry of the nucleon in its rest frame represent the basic ingredients of our approach. The obtained results are compared with the predictions of some other approaches.
We present estimates of Single Spin Asymmetry(SSA) in the electroproduction of J/ψ taking into account the transverse momentum dependent(TMD) evolution of the Sivers function. We estimate SSA for JLab, HERMES, COMPASS and eRHIC energies using color evaporation model of J/ψ. We have calculated the asymmetry using recent parameters extracted by Echevarria et al. using the CSS approach to TMD evolution. These recent TMD evolution fits are based on the evolution kernel in which the perturbative part is resummed up to NLL accuracy. We have also estimated the asymmetry by using parameters which had …
