In this present paper, I propose a derivation of unified interpolation and extrapolation function that predicts new values inside and outside the given range by expanding direct Taylor series on the middle point of given data set. Mathematical construction of experimental model derived in general form. Trigonometric and Power functions adopted as test functions in the development of the vital aspects in numerical experiments. Experimental model was interpolated and extrapolated on data set that generated by test functions. The results of the numerical experiments which predicted by derived model compared with analytical values.
The $\ell_2-$ and $\ell_1-$regularized modified Lagrange interpolation formulae over $[-1,1]$ are deduced in this paper. This paper mainly analyzes the numerical characteristics of regularized barycentric interpolation formulae, which are presented in [C. An and H.-N. Wu, 2019], and regularized modified Lagrange interpolation formulae for both interpolation and extrapolation. Regularized barycentric interpolation formulae can be carried out in $\mathcal{O}(N)$ operations based on existed algorithms [H. Wang, D. Huybrechs and S. Vandewalle, Math. Comp., 2014], and regularized modified Lagrange …
We study in this paper the function approximation error of linear interpolation and extrapolation. Several upper bounds are presented along with the conditions under which they are sharp. All results are under the assumptions that the function has Lipschitz continuous gradient and is interpolated on an affinely independent sample set. Errors for quadratic functions and errors of bivariate linear extrapolation are analyzed in depth.
Function approximation is a generic process in a variety of computational problems, from data interpolation to the solution of differential equations and inverse problems. In this work, a unified approach for such techniques is demonstrated, by utilizing partial sums of Taylor series in high arithmetic precision. In particular, the proposed method is capable of interpolation, extrapolation, numerical differentiation, numerical integration, solution of ordinary and partial differential equations, and system identification. The method is based on the utilization of Taylor polynomials, by exploit…
Under appropriate technical assumptions, the simple-loop theory allows to deduce various types of asymptotic expansions for the eigenvalues of Toeplitz matrices generated by a function $f$. Independently and under the milder hypothesis that $f$ is even and monotonic over $[0,π]$, matrix-less algorithms have been developed for the fast eigenvalue computation of large Toeplitz matrices, within a linear complexity in the matrix order: behind the high efficiency of such algorithms there are the expansions predicted by the simple-loop theory, combined with the extrapolation idea. Here we focus our …
Under appropriate technical assumptions, the simple-loop theory allows to deduce various types of asymptotic expansions for the eigenvalues of Toeplitz matrices $T_{n}(f)$ generated by a function $f$, unfortunately, such a theory is not available in the preconditioning setting, that is for matrices of the form $T_{n}^{-1}(g)T_{n}(l)$ with $l,g$ real-valued, $g$ nonnnegative and not identically zero almost everywhere. Independently and under the milder hypothesis that $f=\frac{l}{g}$ is even and monotonic over $[0,π]$, matrix-less algorithms have been developed for the fast eigenvalue computati…

We discuss a pointwise numerical differentiation formula on multivariate scattered data, based on the coefficients of local polynomial interpolation at Discrete Leja Points, written in Taylor's formula monomial basis. Error bounds for the approximation of partial derivatives of any order compatible with the function regularity are provided, as well as sensitivity estimates to functional perturbations, in terms of the inverse Vandermonde coefficients that are active in the differentiation process. Several numerical tests are presented showing the accuracy of the approximation.
Factorization of the Gaussian RBF kernel is developed for free-mesh interpolation in the flat, polynomial limit corresponding to Taylor expansion and the Vandermonde basis of geometric moments. With this spectral approximation, a top-down octree-scoping of an interpolant is found by recursively decomposing the residual, similar to the work of Driscoll and Heryudono (2007), except that in the current approach the grid is decoupled from the low rank approximation, allowing partial separation of sampling errors (the mesh) from representation errors (the polynomial order). Then, it is possible to …
We investigate an interpolation/extrapolation method that, given scattered observations of the Fourier transform, approximates its inverse. The interpolation algorithm takes advantage of modelling the available data via a shape-driven interpolation based on Variably Scaled Kernels (VSKs), whose implementation is here tailored for inverse problems. The so-constructed interpolants are used as inputs for a standard iterative inversion scheme. After providing theoretical results concerning the spectrum of the VSK collocation matrix, we test the method on astrophysical imaging benchmarks.
We explore a new way to handle flux boundary conditions imposed on level sets. The proposed approach is a diffuse interface version of the shifted boundary method (SBM) for continuous Galerkin discretizations of conservation laws in embedded domains. We impose the interface conditions weakly and approximate surface integrals by volume integrals. The discretized weak form of the governing equation has the structure of an immersed boundary finite element method. That is, integration is performed over a fixed fictitious domain. Source terms are included to account for interface conditions and ext…
The paper studies a geometrically unfitted finite element method (FEM), known as trace FEM or cut FEM, for the numerical solution of the Stokes system posed on a closed smooth surface. A trace FEM based on standard Taylor-Hood (continuous P2-P1) bulk elements is proposed. A so-called volume normal derivative stabilization, known from the literature on trace FEM, is an essential ingredient of this method. The key result proved in the paper is an inf-sup stability of the trace P2-P1 finite element pair, with the stability constant uniformly bounded with respect to the discretization parameter an…
In this work, we propose a novel formulation for the solution of partial differential equations using finite element methods on unfitted meshes. The proposed formulation relies on the discrete extension operator proposed in the aggregated finite element method. This formulation is robust with respect to the location of the boundary/interface within the cell. One can prove enhanced stability results, not only on the physical domain, but on the whole active mesh. However, the stability constants grow exponentially with the polynomial order being used, since the underlying extension operators are…
