In this paper we introduce and study a bilinear spherical maximal function of product type in the spirit of bilinear Calderón-Zygmund theory. This operator is different from the bilinear spherical maximal function considered by Geba et al. We deal with lacunary and full versions of this operator, and we prove weighted estimates with respect to bilinear weights. Our approach involves sparse forms following ideas by Lacey, but we also use other techniques to handle the particular triplet $(2,2,1)$.
We study the bilinear Hilbert transform and bilinear maximal functions associated to polynomial curves and obtain uniform $L^r$ estimates for $r>\frac{d-1}{d}$ and this index is sharp up to the end point.
We study the maximal estimates for the bilinear spherical average and the bilinear Bochner-Riesz operator. Firstly, we obtain $L^p\times L^q \to L^r$ estimates for the bilinear spherical maximal function on the optimal range. Thus, we settle the problem which was previously considered by Geba, Greenleaf, Iosevich, Palsson and Sawyer, later Barrionevo, Grafakos, D. He, Honzík and Oliveira, and recently Heo, Hong and Yang. Secondly, we consider $L^p\times L^q \to L^r$ estimates for the maximal bilinear Bochner-Riesz operators and improve the previous known results. For the purpose we draw a conn…
We obtain boundedness for the bilinear spherical maximal function in a range of exponents that includes the Banach triangle and a range of $L^p$ with $p<1$. We also obtain counterexamples that are asymptotically optimal with our positive results on certain indices as the dimension tends to infinity.
We prove that the bilinear maximal Bochner-Riesz operator $T_*^λ$ is bounded from $L^{p_1}(\mathbb R^n)\times L^{p_2}(\mathbb R^n)$ to $L^p(\mathbb R^n)$ for appropriate $(p_1,p_2,p)$ when $λ>(4n+3)/5$.
Results analogous to those proved by Rubio de Francia are obtained for a class of maximal functions formed by dilations of bilinear multiplier operators of limited decay. We focus our attention to $L^2\times L^2\to L^1$ estimates. We discuss two applications: the boundedness of the bilinear maximal Bochner-Riesz operator and of the bilinear spherical maximal operator. For the latter we improve the known results by reducing the dimension restriction from $n\ge 8$ to $n\ge 4$.
We derive sparse bounds for the bilinear spherical maximal function in any dimension $d\geq 1$. When $d\geq 2$, this immediately recovers the sharp $L^p\times L^q\to L^r$ bound of the operator and implies quantitative weighted norm inequalities with respect to bilinear Muckenhoupt weights, which seems to be the first of their kind for the operator. The key innovation is a group of newly developed continuity $L^p$ improving estimates for the single scale bilinear spherical averaging operator.
Lebesgue space bounds $L^{p_1}({\mathbb R}^1) \times L^{p_2}(^1) \to L^q({\mathbb R}^1)$ are established for certain maximal bilinear operators. The proof combines a trilinear smoothing inequality with Calderón-Zygmund theory. A reference to overlapping work of other authors on one observation has been added.
We establish improved and sharp $L^p$ estimates for the maximal bilinear Bochner-Riesz means in all dimensions $n\geq 1$. This work extends the results proved by Jeong and Lee \cite{JL}. We also recover the known results for the bilinear Bochner-Riesz means. The method of proof involves a new decomposition of the bilinear Bochner-Riesz multiplier $(1-|ξ|^2-|η|^2)_+^α$ and delicate analysis in proving $L^p$ estimates for frequency localized square functions.
We study $L^{p}\times L^{q}\rightarrow L^{r}$-boundedness of (sub)bilinear maximal functions associated with degenerate hypersurfaces. First, we obtain the maximal bound on the sharp range of exponents $p,q,r$ (except some border line cases) for the bilinear maximal functions given by the model surface $\big\{(y,z)\in\mathbb{R}^{n}\times \mathbb{R}^{n}:|y|^{l_{1}}+|z|^{l_{2}}=1\big\}$, $(l_{1},l_{2})\in [1,\infty)^2$, $n\ge 2$. Our result manifests that nonvanishing Gaussian curvature is not good enough, in contrast with $L^p$-boundedness of the (sub)linear maximal operator associated to hyper…
We extend the theory of weighted norm inequalities on variable Lebesgue spaces to the case of bilinear operators. We introduce a bilinear version of the variable $\A_\pp$ condition, and show that it is necessary and sufficient for the bilinear maximal operator to satisfy a weighted norm inequality. Our work generalizes the linear results of the first author, Fiorenza and Neugebauer \cite{dcu-f-nPreprint2010} in the variable Lebesgue spaces and the bilinear results of Lerner {\em et al.} \cite{MR2483720} in the classical Lebesgue spaces. As an application we prove weighted norm inequalities for…
In this paper, we determine the $L^p(\mathbb{R})\times L^q(\mathbb{R})\rightarrow L^r(\mathbb{R})$ boundedness of the bilinear Hilbert transform $H_γ(f,g)$ along a convex curve $γ$ $$H_γ(f,g)(x):=\mathrm{p.\,v.}\int_{-\infty}^{\infty}f(x-t)g(x-γ(t)) \,\frac{\textrm{d}t}{t},$$ where $p$, $q$, and $r$ satisfy $\frac{1}{p}+\frac{1}{q}=\frac{1}{r}$, and $r>\frac{1}{2}$, $p>1$, and $q>1$. Moreover, the same $L^p(\mathbb{R})\times L^q(\mathbb{R})\rightarrow L^r(\mathbb{R})$ boundedness property holds for the corresponding (sub)bilinear maximal function $M_γ(f,g)$ along a convex curve $γ$ $$M_γ(f,g)(…
We prove a bilinear Carleson embedding theorem with matrix weight and scalar measure. In the scalar case, this becomes exactly the well known weighted bilinear Carleson embedding theorem. Although only allowing scalar Carleson measures, it is to date the only extension to the bilinear setting of the recent Carleson embedding theorem by Culiuc and Treil that features a matrix Carleson measure and a matrix weight. It is well known that a Carleson embedding theorem implies a Doob's maximal inequality and this holds true in the matrix weighted setting with an appropriately defined maximal operator…
The bilinear maximal operator defined below maps $L^p\times L^q$ into $L^r$ provided $1<p,q<\zI$, $1/p+1/q=1/r$ and $2/3<r\le1$. $$ Mfg(x)=\sup_{t>0}\frac1{2t}\int_{-t}^t\abs{f(x+y)g(x-y)} dy.$$ In particular $Mfg$ is integrable\thinspace if $f$ and $g$ are square integrable, answering a conjecture posed by Alberto Calderón.
In this paper we introduce Stein's square function associated with bilinear Bochner-Riesz means and investigate its $L^p$ boundedness properties. Further, we discuss several applications of the square function in the context of bilinear multipliers. In particular, we obtain results for maximal function associated with generalised bilinear Bochner-Riesz means. This extends the results proved in~\cite{JS}. Another application concerns the $L^p$ estimates for bilinear fractional Schrödinger multipliers. Finally, we improve upon a result of Grafakos, He and Honzik~\cite{GHH} in the context of bili…
For any operator $T$ whose bilinear form can be dominated by a sparse bilinear form, we prove that $T$ is bounded as a map from $L^1(\widetilde{M}w)$ into weak--$L^1(w)$. Our main innovation is that $\widetilde{M}$ is a maximal function defined by directly using the local $A_\infty$ characteristic of the weight (rather than Orlicz norms). Prior results are due to Coifman\&Fefferman, Pérez, Hytönen\&Pérez, and Domingo-Salazar\&Lacey\&Rey. As we discuss, but do not prove, the maximal functions we use seem to be on the order of $M_{L({log log} L) ({log log log} L) ({log log log log} L)^{1+ε}}$.
In this paper we prove several weighted estimates for bilinear fractional integral operators and their commutators with BMO functions. We also prove maximal function control theorem for these operators, that is, we prove the weighted $L^p$ norm is bounded by the weighted $L^p$ norm of a natural maximal operator when the weight belongs to $A_\infty$. As a corollary we are able to obtain new weighted estimates for the bilinear maximal function associated to the bilinear Hilbert transform.

Let $\mathcal{N}\mathcal{F}$ be the class of smooth non-flat curves near the origin and near infinity previously introduced by the second author and let $γ\in\mathcal{N}\mathcal{F}$. We show - via a unifying approach relative to the correspondent bilinear Hilbert transform $H_Γ$ - that the (sub)bilinear maximal function along curves $Γ=(t,-γ(t))$ defined as $$M_Γ(f,g)(x):=\sup\limits_{ε>0} \frac{1}{2ε} \int_{-ε}^ε |f(x-t)\,g(x+γ(t))|\,dt$$ is bounded from $L^p(\mathbb{R})\times L^{q}(\mathbb{R})\to L^r(\mathbb{R})$ for all $p, q$ and $r$ Hölder indices, that is $\frac{1}{p}+\frac{1}{q}=\frac{1…
This paper mainly dedicates to prove a plethora of weighted estimates on Morrey spaces for bilinear fractional integral operators and their general commutators with BMO functions of the form $$B_α(f,g)(x)=\int_{\mathbb{R}^{n}}\frac{f(x-y)g(x+y)}{|y|^{n-α}}dy,\qquad 0<α<n.$$ We also prove some maximal function control theorems for these operators, that is, the weighted Morrey norm is bounded by the weighted Morrey norm of a natural maximal operator when the weight belongs to $A_{\infty}$. As a corollary, some new weighted estimates for the bilinear maximal function associated to the bilinear Hi…
Bilinear restriction estimates have been appeared in work of Bourgain, Klainerman, and Machedon. In this paper we develop the theory of these estimates (together with the analogues for Kakeya estimates). As a consequence we improve the $(L^p,L^p)$ spherical restriction theorem of Wolff from $p > 42/11$ to $p > 34/9$, and also obtain a sharp $(L^p,L^q)$ spherical restriction theorem for $q > 4 - 5/27$.
Let $T$ be a bilinear Calderón-Zygmund singular integral operator and $T_*$ be its corresponding truncated maximal operator. The commutators in the $i$-$th$ entry and the iterated commutators of $T_*$ are defined by $$ T_{\ast,b,1}(f,g)(x)=\sup_{δ>0}\bigg|\iint_{|x-y|+|x-z|>δ}K(x,y,z)(b(y)-b(x))f(y)g(z)dydz\bigg|, $$ $$T_{\ast,b,2}(f,g)(x)=\sup_{δ>0}\bigg|\iint_{|x-y|+|x-z|>δ}K(x,y,z)(b(z)-b(x))f(y)g(z)dydz\bigg|,$$ \begin{align*} T_{\ast,(b_1,b_2)}(f,g)(x)=\sup\limits_{δ>0}\bigg|\iint_{|x-y|+|x-z|>δ} K(x,y,z)(b_1(y)-b_1(x))(b_2(z)-b_2(x))f(y)g(z)dydz\bigg|. \end{align*} In this paper, the com…
We prove that the bilinear Hilbert transforms and maximal functions along certain general plane curves are bounded from $L^2(\mathbb{R})\times L^2(\mathbb{R})$ to $L^1(\mathbb{R})$.
Let $T$ be a bilinear Calderón-Zygmund singular integral operator and $T^*$ be its corresponding truncated maximal operator. For any $b\in\text{BMO}(\mathbb {R}^n)$ and $\vec{b}=(b_1,\ b_2)\in\text{BMO}(\mathbb {R}^n)\times\text {BMO}(\mathbb{R}^n)$, let $T^*_{b,j}$ (j=1,2), $T^*_{\vec{b}}\ $ be the commutators in the j-th entry and the iterated commutators of $T^*$, respectively. In this paper, for all $1<p_1,p_2<\infty$, $\frac{1}{p}=\frac{1}{p_1}+\frac{1}{p_2}$, we show that $T^*_{b,j}$ and $T^*_{\vec{b}}$ are compact operators from $L^{p_1}(w_1)\times L^{p_2}(w_2)$ to $L^p(v_{\vec{w}})$, i…
Motivated by the study of kernels of bilinear pseudodifferential operators with symbols in a Hörmander class of critical order, we investigate boundedness properties of strongly singular Calderón--Zygmund operators in the bilinear setting. For such operators, whose kernels satisfy integral-type conditions, we establish boundedness properties in the setting of Lebesgue spaces as well as endpoint mappings involving the space of functions of bounded mean oscillations and the Hardy space. Assuming pointwise-type conditions on the kernels, we show that strongly singular bilinear Calderón--Zygmund o…
We study a family of maximal operators that provides a continuous link connecting the Hardy-Littlewood maximal function to the spherical maximal function. Our theorems are proved in the multilinear setting but may contain new results even in the linear case. For this family of operators we obtain bounds between Lebesgue spaces in the optimal range of exponents.
In this paper we study maximal and square functions associated with bilinear Bochner-Riesz means at the critical index. In particular, we prove that they satisfy weighted estimates from $L^{p_1}(w_1)\times L^{p_2}(w_2)\rightarrow L^p(v_w)$ for bilinear weights $(w_1,w_2)\in A_{\vec{P}}$ where $p_1,p_2>1$ and $\frac{1}{p_1}+\frac{1}{p_2}=\frac{1}{p}$. Also, we show that both the operators fail to satisfy weak-type estimates at the end-point $(1,1,\frac{1}{2})$.
We prove an expanded range of $\ell ^{p}(\mathbb{Z}^d)$-improving properties and sparse bounds for discrete spherical maximal means in every dimension $d\geq 6$. Essential elements of the proofs are bounds for high exponent averages of Ramanujan and restricted Kloosterman sums.
Let $Ω_1,Ω_2$ be functions of homogeneous of degree $0$ and $\vecΩ=(Ω_1,Ω_2)\in L\log L(\mathbb{S}^{n-1})\times L\log L(\mathbb{S}^{n-1})$. In this paper, we investigate the limiting weak-type behavior for bilinear maximal function $M_{\vecΩ}$ and bilinear singular integral $T_{\vecΩ}$ associated with rough kernel $\vecΩ$. For all $f,g\in L^1(\mathbb{R}^n)$, we show that $$\lim_{λ\to 0^+}λ|\big\{ x\in\mathbb{R}^n:M_{\vecΩ}(f_1,f_2)(x)>λ\big\}|^2 = \frac{\|Ω_1Ω_2\|_{L^{1/2}(\mathbb{S}^{n-1})}}{ω_{n-1}^2}\prod\limits_{i=1}^2\| f_i\|_{L^1}$$ and $$\lim_{λ\to 0^+}λ|\big\{ x\in\mathbb{R}^n:| T_{\ve…
We prove L2 x L2 to weak L1 estimates for some novel bilinear maximal operators of Kakeya and lacunary type thus extending to this setting, the works of Cordoba and of Nagel, Stein and Wainger.
In this paper we deal with lacunary and full versions of the spherical maximal function on the Heisenberg group $\mathbb{H}^n$, for $n\ge 2$. By suitable adaptation of an approach developed by M. Lacey in the Euclidean case, we obtain sparse bounds for these maximal functions, which lead to new unweighted and weighted estimates. In particular, we deduce the $L^p$ boundedness, for $1<p<\infty$, of the lacunary maximal function associated to the spherical means on the Heisenberg group. In order to prove the sparse bounds, we establish $ L^p-L^q $ estimates for local (single scale) variants of th…
In dimensions $n\ge 2$ we obtain $L^{p_1}(\mathbb R^n) \times\dots\times L^{p_m}(\mathbb R^n)$ to $L^p(\mathbb R^n)$ boundedness for the multilinear spherical maximal function in the largest possible open set of indices and we provide counterexamples that indicate the optimality of our results. Moreover, we obtain weak type and Lorentz space estimates as well as counterexamples in the endpoint cases.
We exhibit a range of $\ell ^{p}(\mathbb{Z}^d)$-improving properties for the discrete spherical maximal average in every dimension $d\geq 5$. The strategy used to show these improving properties is then adapted to establish sparse bounds, which extend the discrete maximal theorem of Magyar, Stein, and Wainger to weighted spaces. In particular, the sparse bounds imply that the discrete spherical maximal average is a bounded map from $\ell^2(w)$ into $\ell^2(w)$ provided $w^{\frac{d}{d-4}+δ}$ belongs to the Muckenhoupt class $A_2$ for some $δ>0.$
In this paper we investigate the $L^p$ boundedness of the lacunary maximal function $ M_{\Ha}^{lac} $ associated to the spherical means $ A_r f$ taken over Koranyi spheres on the Heisenberg group. Closely following an approach used by M. Lacey in the Euclidean case, we obtain sparse bounds for these maximal functions leading to new unweighted and weighted estimates. The key ingredients in the proof are the $L^p$ improving property of the operator $A_rf$ and a continuity property of the difference $A_rf-τ_y A_rf$, where $τ_yf(x)=f(xy^{-1})$ is the right translation operator.
We prove that the discrete spherical maximal functions (in the spirit of Magyar, Stein and Wainger) corresponding to the Euclidean spheres in $\mathbb Z^d$ with dyadic radii have $\ell^p(\mathbb Z^d)$ bounds for all $p\in[2, \infty]$ independent of the dimensions $d\ge 5$. An important part of our argument is the asymptotic formula in the Waring problem for the squares with a dimension-free multiplicative error term. By considering new approximating multipliers we will show how to absorb an exponential in dimension (like $C^d$ for some $C>1$) growth in norms arising from the sampling principle…
For a function $f\in L^p(\Bbb R^d)$, $d\ge 2$, let $A_t f(x)$ be the mean of $f$ over the sphere of radius $t$ centered at $x$. Given a set $E\subset (0,\infty)$ of dilations we prove endpoint bounds for the maximal operator $M_E$ defined by $M_E f(x)=\sup_{t\in E} |A_t f(x)|$.
