In this paper we develop the theory of initial and boundary value problems for the self-adjoint nabla fractional difference equation containing a Caputo fractional nabla difference that is given by \[ \nabla[p(t+1)\nabla_{a*}^νx(t+1)] + q(t)x(t) = h(t), \] where $0 < ν\leq 1$. We give an introduction to the nabla fractional calculus with Caputo fractional differences. We investigate properties of the specific self-adjoint nabla fractional difference equation given above. We prove existence and uniqueness theorems for both initial and boundary value problems under appropriate conditions. We introduce the definition of a Cauchy function which allows us to give a variation of constants formula for solving initial value problems. We then show that this Cauchy function is important in finding a Green's function for a boundary value problem with Sturm-Liouville type boundary conditions. Several inequalities concerning a certain Green's function are derived. These results are important in using fixed point theorems for proving the existence of solutions to boundary value problems for nonlinear fractional equations related to our linear self-adjoint equation.
In this paper, we investigate the existence and uniqueness of solutions for a fractional boundary value problem supplemented with nonlocal Riemann-Liouville fractional integral and Caputo fractional derivative boundary conditions. Our results are based on some known tools of fixed point theory. Finally, some illustrative examples are included to verify the validity of our results.
In this paper we present a new type of fractional operator, the Caputo-Katugampola derivative. The Caputo and the Caputo-Hadamard fractional derivatives are special cases of this new operator. An existence and uniqueness theorem for a fractional Cauchy type problem, with dependence on the Caputo--Katugampola derivative, is proven. A decomposition formula for the Caputo-Katugampola derivative is obtained. This formula allows us to provide a simple numerical procedure to solve the fractional differential equation.
In the article we propose and study a method to solve ordinary differential equations with left-sided fractional Bessel derivatives on semi-axes of Gerasimov-Caputo type. We derive explicit solutions to equations with fractional powers of Bessel operator using the Meijer integral transform.
We present sufficient conditions for the existence of positive solutions for a class of fractional singular boundary value problems in presence of Caputo fractional derivative. Further, the nonlinearity involved has singularity with respect to independent variable as well as with respect to dependent variable.
Based on the fractional $q$-integral with the parametric lower limit of integration, we define fractional $q$-derivative of Riemann-Liouville and Caputo type. The properties are studied separately as well as relations between them. Also, we discuss properties of compositions of these operators.
In this paper we present a new type of fractional operator, which is a generalization of the Caputo and Caputo--Hadamard fractional derivative operators. We study some properties of the operator, namely we prove that it is the inverse operation of a generalized fractional integral. A relation between this operator and a Riemann--Liouville type is established. We end with a fractional Gronwall inequality type, which is useful to compare solutions of fractional differential equations.
We present a new smoothness result for Caputo-type fractional ordinary differential equations, which reveals that, subtracting a non-smooth function that can be obtained by the information available, a non-smooth solution belongs to $ C^m $ for some positive integer $ m $.
We use Sadavoskii's fixed point method to investigate the existence and uniqueness of solutions of Caputo impulsive fractional differential equations of order αbetween 0 and 1 with one example of impulsive logistic model and few other examples as well. We also discuss Caputo impulsive fractional differential equations with finite delay. The results proven are new and complement the existing one.
We discuss the existence, non-existence and multiplicity of nontrivial solutions for systems of Caputo fractional differential equations subject to nonlocal boundary conditions. Our methodology relies on classical fixed point index and we make use of recent results by Infante and Pietramala.
This paper deals with the initial value problem for the multi-term fractional differential equation. The fractional derivative is defined in the Caputo sense. Firstly the initial value problem is transformed into a equivalent Volterra-type integral equation under appropriate assumptions. Then new existence results for smooth solutions are established by using the Schauder fixed point theorem.
Different fractional difference types of Euler-Lagrange equations are obtained within Riemann and Caputo by making use of different versions of integration by part forumlas in fractional difference calculus. An example is presented to illustrate part of the results.
Caputo-Fabrizio fractional delta derivatives on an arbitrary time scale are presented. When the time scale is chosen to be the set of real numbers, then the Caputo-Fabrizio fractional derivative is recovered. For isolated or partly continuous and partly discrete, i.e., hybrid time scales, one gets new fractional operators. We concentrate on the behavior of solutions to initial value problems with the Caputo-Fabrizio fractional delta derivative on an arbitrary time scale. In particular, the exponential stability of linear systems is studied. A necessary and sufficient condition for the exponent…
Upper bounds for the blow-up time of a system of fractional differential equations with Caputo derivatives and a numerical scheme for the solution of the system
A discrete version of the symmetric duality of Caputo-Torres, to relate left and right Riemann-Liouville and Caputo fractional differences, is considered. As a corollary, we provide an evidence to the fact that in case of right fractional differences, one has to mix between nabla and delta operators. As an application, we derive right fractional summation by parts formulas and left fractional difference Euler-Lagrange equations for discrete fractional variational problems whose Lagrangians depend on right fractional differences.
We consider the canonical fundamental systems of solutions of linear homogeneous Caputo fractional differential equations with continuous variable coefficients. Here we gained a series-representation of the canonical fundamental system by coefficients of the considered equations and the representation of solution to initial value problems using the canonical fundamental system. According to our results, the canonical fundamental system of solutions to linear homogeneous differential equation with Caputo fractional derivatives and continuous variable coefficients has different representations a…
In this paper, we studied the sufficient conditions for the existence of positive solutions to the boundary value problems of Caputo fractional difference equations depending on parameters with non local boundary conditions. We construct and analyse the Green's function to the corresponding boundary value problem and then established the existence results using Krasnosel'skii fixed point theorem.
It is shown that the attractor of an autonomous Caputo fractional differential equation of order $α\in(0,1)$ in $\mathbb{R}^d$ whose vector field has a certain triangular structure and satisfies a smooth condition and dissipativity condition is essentially the same as that of the ordinary differential equation with the same vector field. As an application, we establish several one-parameter bifurcations for scalar fractional differential equations including the saddle-node and the pichfork bifurcations. The proof uses a result of "N. D. Cong and H.T. Tuan, Generation of nonlocal fractional dyn…
The stability of the zero solution of a nonlinear Caputo fractional differential equation with noninstantaneous impulses is studied using Lyapunov like functions. The novelty of this paper is based on the new definition of the derivative of a Lyapunov like function along the given noninstantaneous impulsive fractional differential equations. On one side this definition is a natural generalization of Caputo fractional Dini derivative of a function and on the other side it allows us the assumption for Lyapunov functions to be weakened to continuity. By appropriate examples it is shown the natura…
Using a temporally weighted norm we first establish a result on the global existence and uniqueness of solutions for Caputo fractional stochastic differential equations of order $α\in(\frac{1}{2},1)$ whose coefficients satisfy a standard Lipschitz condition. For this class of systems we then show that the asymptotic distance between two distinct solutions is greater than $t^{-\frac{1-α}{2α}-\eps}$ as $t \to \infty$ for any $\eps>0$. As a consequence, the mean square Lyapunov exponent of an arbitrary non-trivial solution of a bounded linear Caputo fractional stochastic differential equation is …
In this paper we study linear and nonlinear fractional differential equations involving the Caputo fractional derivative with Mittag-Leffler non-singular kernel of order $0<α<1.$ We first obtain a new estimate of the fractional derivative of a function at its extreme points and derive a necessary condition for the existence of a solution to the linear fractional equation. The obtained sufficient condition determine the initial condition of the associated fractional initial value problem. We then derive comparison principles to the linear fractional equations. We apply these principles to obtai…
An autonomous Caputo fractional differential equation of order $α\in(0,1)$ in $\mathbb{R}^d$ whose vector field satisfies a global Lipschitz condition is shown to generate a semi-dynamical system in the function space $\mathfrak{C}$ of continuous functions $f:\R^+\rightarrow \R^d$ with the topology uniform convergence on compact subsets. This contrasts with a recent result of Cong \& Tuan \cite{cong}, which showed that such equations do not, in general, generate a dynamical system on the space $\mathbb{R}^d$.
We introduce the notion of Caputo-Fabrizio left and right derivatives. We present sufficient conditions for the existence of symmetric positive solutions for the following Caputo-Fabrizio fractional singular integro-differential boundary value problem \begin{align*} (2-μ)\,{}^{CF}D_{0}^{\,μ}x(t)+f(t,x(t))&=\left(\frac{μ-1}{2-μ}\right)^{2} \begin{cases} \int_{t}^{0}e^{-\frac{μ-1}{2-μ}(τ-t)}\,x(τ)dτ,\hspace{0.4cm}&t\in(-1,0],\\ \int_{0}^{t}e^{-\frac{μ-1}{2-μ}(t-τ)}\,x(τ)dτ,\hspace{0.4cm}&t\in[0,1), \end{cases}\\ x(\pm1)=x'(0^{\pm})&=0,\hspace{5.55cm}μ\in(1,2), \end{align*} where the nonlinearity…
In this article, we establish the symmetric positive existence for the following Caputo fractional boundary value problem \begin{align*} {}^{C}D_{0}^{\,μ}x(t)+f(t,x(t))&=0,\hspace{1cm}t\in(-1,\,1),\hspace{1cm}1<μ\leq2,\\ x(\pm1)=x'(0^{\pm})&=0, \end{align*} where ${}^{C}D_{0}^{\,μ}x(t)={}^{C}D_{0^{+}}^{\,μ}x(t)$ for $t\geq0$, ${}^{C}D_{0}^{\,μ}x(t)={}^{C}D_{0^{-}}^{\,μ}x(t)$ for $t\leq0$. Moreover, $f:(-1,\,1)\times(0,\infty)\rightarrow\mathbb{R}$ is continuous and singular at $t=-1$, $t=1$ and $x=0$. Here, ${}^{C}D_{0^{+}}^{\,μ}$ and ${}^{C}D_{0^{-}}^{\,μ}$, respectively, are Caputo fractiona…
In this paper we consider a Caputo type fractional derivative with respect to another function. Some properties, like the semigroup law, a relationship between the fractional derivative and the fractional integral, Taylor's Theorem, Fermat's Theorem, etc, are studied. Also, a numerical method to deal with such operators, consisting in approximating the fractional derivative by a sum that depends on the first-order derivative, is presented. Relying on examples, we show the efficiency and applicability of the method. Finally, an application of the fractional derivative, by considering a Populati…
In recent years, the theory for Leibniz integral rule in the fractional sense has not been able to get substantial development. As an urgent problem to be solved, we study a Leibniz integral rule for Riemann-Liouville and Caputo type differentiation operators with general fractional-order of $n-1 <α\leq n$, $n \in \mathbb{N}$ . A rule of fractional differentiation under integral sign with general order is necessary and applicable tool for verification by substitution for candidate solutions of inhomogeneous multi-term fractional differential equations. We derive explicit analytical solutions o…
We generalize the classical mean value theorem of differential calculus by allowing the use of a Caputo-type fractional derivative instead of the commonly used first-order derivative. Similarly, we generalize the classical mean value theorem for integrals by allowing the corresponding fractional integral, viz.\ the Riemann-Liouville operator, instead of a classical (first-order) integral. As an application of the former result we then prove a uniqueness theorem for initial value problems involving Caputo-type fractional differential operators. This theorem generalizes the classical Nagumo theo…
We consider the discrete, fractional operator $\left(L_a^νx\right) (t) := \nabla [p(t) \nabla_{a^*}^νx(t)] + q(t) x(t-1)$ involving the nabla Caputo fractional difference, which can be thought of as an analogue to the self-adjoint differential operator. We show that solutions to difference equations involving this operator have expected properties, such as the form of solutions to homogeneous and nonhomogeneous equations. We also give a variation of constants formula via a Cauchy function in order to solve initial value problems involving $L_a^ν$. We also consider boundary value problems of an…
It is well known that, under standard assumptions, initial value problems for fractional ordinary differential equations involving Caputo-type derivatives are well posed in the sense that a unique solution exists and that this solution continuously depends on the given function, the initial value and the order of the derivative. Here we extend this well-posedness concept to the extent that we also allow the location of the starting point of the differential operator to be changed, and we prove that the solution depends on this parameter in a continuous way too if the usual assumptions are sati…
In this paper, we focus on the existence and uniqueness of solutions of boundary value problems for a coupled system of fractional differential equations with four-point boundary conditions involving $ψ$-Caputo fractional derivatives. Our investigation is based on Leray-Schauder alternative and Banach's fixed point theorem. Two examples are presented to illustrate the applicability of the results developed.
We establish partial semigroup property of Riemann-Liouville and Caputo fractional differential operators. Using this result we prove theorems on reduction of multi-term fractional differential systems to single-term and multi-order systems, and prove existence and uniqueness of solution to multi-term Caputo fractional differential systems
We discuss the existence of multiple positive solutions for a nonlocal fractional problem recently considered by Nieto and Pimental. Our approach relies on classical fixed point index.
Recently, some authors have proved monotonicity results for delta and nabla fractional differences separately. In this article, we use dual identities relating delta and nabla fractional difference operators to prove shortly the monotonicity properties for the (left Riemann) nabla fractional differences using the corresponding delta type properties. Also, we proved some monotonicity properties for the Caputo fractional differences. Finally, we use the $Q-$operator dual identities to prove monotonicity results for the right fractional difference operators.
This paper is devoted to the investigation of the nonnegative solutions and the stability and asymptotic properties of the solutions of fractional differential dynamic systems involving delayed dynamics with point delays. The obtained results are independent of the sizes of the delays.
We review some recent results of the fractional variational calculus. Necessary optimality conditions of Euler-Lagrange type for functionals with a Lagrangian containing left and right Caputo derivatives are given. Several problems are considered: with fixed or free boundary conditions, and in presence of integral constraints that also depend on Caputo derivatives.
We establish necessary optimality conditions for variational problems with a Lagrangian depending on a combined Caputo derivative of variable fractional order. The endpoint of the integral is free, and thus transversality conditions are proved. Several particular cases are considered illustrating the new results.
We extend in this paper the definition of Caputo derivatives of order in $(0,1)$ to a certain class of locally integrable functions using a convolution group. Our strategy is to define a fractional calculus for a certain class of distributions using the convolution group. When acting on causal functions, this fractional calculus agrees with the traditional Riemann-Liouville definition for $t>0$ but includes some singularities at $t=0$ so that the group property holds. Then, making use of this fractional calculus, we introduce the generalized definition of Caputo derivatives. The new definition…
In this paper we establish some convergence results for Riemann-Liouville, Caputo, and Caputo-Fabrizio fractional operators when the order of differentiation approaches one. We consider some errors given by $\left|\left| D^{1-\al}f -f'\right|\right|_p$ for p=1 and $p=\infty$ and we prove that for both Caputo and Caputo Fabrizio operators the order of convergence is a positive real r, 0<r<1. Finally, we compare the speed of convergence between Caputo and Caputo-Fabrizio operators obtaining that they a related by the Digamma function.
In the paper, we considered the existence and uniqueness of the global solution in the space of continuously differentiable functions for a nonlinear differential equation with the Caputo fractional derivative of general form. Our main method is to derive an integral equation corresponding to the original nonlinear fractional differential equation and to prove their eqivalence. Once we prove the equivalence, then the proof of existence and uniquness of solution can be done by standard way of using Banach fixed point theorem.
In the paper, a linear differential equation with variable coefficients and a Caputo fractional derivative is considered. For this equation, a Cauchy problem is studied, when an initial condition is given at an intermediate point that does not necessarily coincide with the initial point of the fractional differential operator. A detailed analysis of basic properties of the fundamental solution matrix is carried out. In particular, the Hölder continuity of this matrix with respect to both variables is proved, and its dual definition is given. Based on this, two representation formulas for the s…
We propose a new fractional derivative, the Hilfer-Katugampola fractional derivative. Motivated by the Hilfer derivative this formulation interpolates the well-known fractional derivatives of Hilfer, Hilfer-Hadamard, Riemann-Liouville, Hadamard, Caputo, Caputo-Hadamard, Liouville, Weyl, generalized and Caputo-type. As an application, we consider a nonlinear fractional differential equation with an initial condition using this new formulation. We show that this equation is equivalent to a Volterra integral equation and demonstrate the existence and uniqueness of solution to the nonlinear initia…
