We have shown in a recent collaboration that the Cauchy problem for the multi-dimensional Burgers equation is well-posed when the initial data u(0) is taken in the Lebesgue space L 1 (R n), and more generally in L p (R n). We investigate here the situation where u(0) is a bounded measure instead, focusing on the case n = 2. This is motivated by the description of the asymptotic behaviour of solutions with integrable data, as t $\rightarrow$ +$\infty$. MSC2010: 35F55, 35L65. Notations. We denote $\times$ p the norm in Lebesgue L p (R n). The space of bounded measure over R m is M (R m) and its norm is denoted $\times$ M. The Dirac mass at X $\in$ R n is $δ$ X or $δ$ x=X. If $ν$ $\in$ M (R m) and $μ$ $\in$ M (R q), then $ν$ $\otimes$ $μ$ is the measure over R m+q uniquely defined by $ν$ $\otimes$ $μ$, $ψ$ = $ν$, f $μ$, g whenever $ψ$(x, y) $\not\equiv$ f (x)g(y). The closed halves of the real line are denoted R + and R --. * U.M.P.A., UMR CNRS-ENSL \# 5669. 46 all{é}e d'Italie,

We study the multi-dimensional Burgers equation $u_t + u u_{x_1} + \dots + u^d u_{x_d} = 0$. We prove that the $L^\infty$ norm of entropy solutions of this equation decays polynomially as $t \to \infty$ in terms of the $L^1$ norm of the initial data only.
In this paper, we constuct the multi-point blowup solutions of self-similar type for the inviscid Burgers equation. The shape and blowup dynamics are precisely described. Moreover, the solutions we construct are stable under small perturbations on initial data restricted in a compact set.
We study an Eulerian droplet model which can be seen as the pressureless gas system with a source term, a subsystem of this model and the inviscid Burgers equation with source term. The condition for loss of regularity of a solution to Burgers equation with source term is established. The same condition applies to the Eulerian droplet model and its subsystem. The Riemann problem for the Eulerian droplet model is constructively solved by going through the solution of the Riemann problems for the inviscid Burgers equation with a source term and the subsystem, respectively. Under suitable general…
The Cauchy problem for a scalar conservation laws admits a unique entropy solution when the data $u_0$ is a bounded measurable function (Kruzhkov). The semi-group $(S_t)_{t\ge0}$ is contracting in the $L^1$-distance. For the multi-dimensional Burgers equation, we show that $(S_t)_{t\ge0}$ extends uniquely as a continuous semi-group over $L^p(\mathbb{R}^n)$ whenever $1\le p<\infty$, and $u(t):=S_tu_0$ is actually an entropy solution to the Cauchy problem. When $p\le q\le \infty$ and $t>0$, $S_t$ actually maps $L^p(\mathbb{R}^n)$ into $L^q(\mathbb{R}^n)$. These results are based upon new dispers…

We prove the existence of generalized characteristics for weak, not necessarily entropic, solutions of Burgers' equation \[ \partial_t u +\partial_x \frac{u^2}{2} =0, \] whose entropy productions are signed measures. Such solutions arise in connection with large deviation principles for the hydrodynamic limit of interacting particle systems. The present work allows to remove a technical trace assumption in a recent result by the two first authors about the $L^2$ stability of entropic shocks among such non-entropic solutions. The proof relies on the Lagrangian representation of a solution's hyp…
In this paper, we find a regularized approximate solution for an inverse problem for the Burgers' equation. The solution of the inverse problem for the Burgers' equation is ill-posed, i.e., the solution does not depend continuously on the data. The approximate solution is the solution of a regularized equation with randomly perturbed coefficients and randomly perturbed final value and source functions. To find the regularized solution, we use the modified quasi-reversibility method associated with the truncated expansion method with nonparametric regression. We also investigate the convergence…
We are concerned with the large-time behavior of the radially symmetric solution for multidimensional Burgers equation on the exterior of a ball $\mathbb{B}_{r_0}(0)\subset \mathbb{R}^n$ for $n\geq 3$ and some positive constant $r_0>0$, where the boundary data $v_-$ and the far field state $v_+$ of the initial data are prescribed and correspond to a stationary wave. It is shown in \cite{Hashimoto-Matsumura-JDE-2019} that a sufficient condition to guarantee the existence of such a stationary wave is $v_+<0, v_-\leq |v_+|+μ(n-1)/r_0$. Since the stationary wave is no longer monotonic, its nonline…
We prove the existence and uniqueness of a classical solution to a multidimensional non-potential stochastic Burgers equation with Hölder continuous initial data. Our motivation is the adhesion model in the theory of formation of the large-scale structure of the universe. Importantly, we drop the assumption on the potentiality of the velocity flow that has been questioned in physics literature.
This note addresses input-to-state stability (ISS) properties with respect to (w.r.t.) boundary and in-domain disturbances for Burgers' equation. The developed approach is a combination of the method of De~Giorgi iteration and the technique of Lyapunov functionals by adequately splitting the original problem into two subsystems. The ISS properties in $L^2$-norm for Burgers' equation have been established using this method. Moreover, as an application of De~Giorgi iteration, ISS in $L^\infty$-norm w.r.t. in-domain disturbances and actuation errors in boundary feedback control for a 1-$D$ {linea…
We sharpen in this work the tools of paracontrolled calculus in order to provide a complete analysis of the parabolic Anderson model equation and Burgers system with multiplicative noise, in a $3$-dimensional Riemannian setting, in either bounded or unbounded domains. With that aim in mind, we introduce a pair of intertwined space-time paraproducts on parabolic Hölder spaces, with good continuity, that happens to be pivotal and provides one of the building blocks of higher order paracontrolled calculus.
We consider a new Stefan-type problem for the classical heat equation with a latent heat and phase-change temperature depending of the variable time. We prove the equivalence of this Stefan problem with a class of boundary value problems for the nonlinear canonical evolution equation involving a source term with two free boundaries. This equivalence is obtained by applying a reduction to a Burgers equation and a reciprocal-type transformations. Moreover, for a particular case, we obtain a unique explicit solution for the two different problems.
First, we discuss the non-Gaussian type of self-similar solutions to the Navier-Stokes equations. We revisit a class of self-similar solutions which was studied in Canonne-Planchon (1996). In order to shed some light on it, we study self-similar solutions to the 1D Burgers equation in detail, completing the most general form of similarity profiles that it can possibly possess. In particular, on top of the well-known source-type solution we identify a kink-type solution. It is represented by one of the confluent hypergeometric functions, viz. Kummer's function $M.$ For the 2D Navier-Stokes equa…
In several space dimensions, scalar shock waves between two constant states u $\pm$ are not necessarily planar. We describe them in detail. Then we prove their asymptotic stability, assuming that they are uniformly non-characteristic. Our result is conditional for a general flux, while unconditional for the multi-D Burgers equation.
We formalise a systematic method of constructing forward self-similar solutions to the Navier-Stokes equations in order to characterise the late stage of decaying process of turbulent flows. (i) In view of critical scale-invariance of type 2 we exploit the vorticity curl as the dependent variable to derive and analyse the dynamically-scaled Navier-Stokes equations. This formalism offers the viewpoint from which the problem takes the simplest possible form. (ii) Rewriting the scaled Navier-Stokes equations by Duhamel principle as integral equations, we regard the nonlinear term as a perturbatio…

The first goal of this paper is to prove multiple asymptotic results for a time-discrete and space-continuous polymer model of a random walk in a random potential. These results include: existence of deterministic free energy density in the infinite volume limit for every fixed asymptotic slope; concentration inequalities for free energy implying a bound on its fluctuation exponent; straightness estimates implying a bound on the transversal fluctuation exponent. The culmination of this program is almost sure existence and uniqueness of polymer measures on one-sided infinite paths with given en…
We consider a class of nonlinear fractional equations having the Caputo fractional derivative of the time variable $t$, the fractional order of the self-adjoint positive definite unbounded operator in a Hilbert space and a singular nonlinear source. These equations are generalizations of some well-known fractional equation such as the fractional Cahn-Allen equation, the fractional Burger equation, the fractional Cahn-Hilliard equation, the fractional Kuramoto-Sivashinsky equation, etc. We study both the initial value and the final value problem. Under some suitable assumptions, we investigate …
