Nuclear $β$ decays as well as the decay of the neutron are well-established low-energy probes of physics beyond the Standard Model (SM). In particular, with the axial-vector coupling of the nucleon $g_A$ determined from lattice QCD, the comparison between experiment and SM prediction is commonly used to derive constraints on right-handed currents. Further, in addition to the CKM element $V_{us}$ from kaon decays, $V_{ud}$ from $β$ decays is a critical input for the test of CKM unitarity. Here, we point out that the available information on $β$ decays can be re-interpreted as a stringent test of lepton flavor universality (LFU). In fact, we find that the ratio of $V_{us}$ from kaon decays over $V_{us}$ from $β$ decays (assuming CKM unitarity) is extremely sensitive to LFU violation (LFUV) in $W$-$μ$-$ν$ couplings thanks to a CKM enhancement by $(V_{ud}/V_{us})^2\sim 20$. From this perspective, recent hints for the violation of CKM unitarity can be viewed as further evidence for LFUV, fitting into the existing picture exhibited by semi-leptonic $B$ decays and the anomalous magnetic moments of muon and electron. Finally, we comment on the future sensitivity that can be reached with this LFU violating observable and discuss complementary probes of LFU that may reach a similar level of precision, such as $Γ(π\toμν)/Γ(π\to eν)$ at the PEN and PiENu experiments or even direct measurements of $W\toμν$ at an FCC-ee.
We present an overview of searches fo violation of lepton flavor universality with focus on low energy precision probes using pions, kaons, tau leptons, and nuclear beta decays. The current experimental results are reviewed, the theoretical status within the context of the Standard Model is summarized, and future prospects (both experimental and theoretical) are discussed. We review the implications of these measurements for physics beyond the Standard Model by performing a global model-independent fit to modified $W$ couplings to leptons and four-fermion operators. We also discuss new physics…
The Standard Model (SM) of particle physics was finalized in its current form in the mid-1970s, and has been extensively tested and confirmed ever since, with the discovery of the Higgs boson in 2012 being the last missing piece. While no new particles have been directly discovered at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN so far, precision observables sensitive to quantum effects of new particles have accumulated intriguing hints for physics beyond the SM. All these anomalies can be interpreted from the point of view of lepton flavor universality, i.e., as hints that electrons, muons, and ta…
In recent years, exciting (indirect) hints for physics beyond the Standard Model (SM) have been accumulated. In particular, semi-leptonic $B$ decays show deviations from the SM predictions, which, due to the ratios $R(K^{(*)})$ and $R(D^{(*)})$ are obviously related to lepton flavour universality violation (LFUV). However, {we point out} there are more anomalies which admit an interpretation in terms of LFUV: The anomalous magnetic moment of the muon, the Cabibbo angle anomaly, the CMS measurements of non-resonant di-electrons, the difference of the forward-backward asymmetry in $B\to D^*\ellν…
In the Standard Model (SM), the coupling of the electroweak gauge bosons to the leptons is lepton flavour universal. Tests of this property constitute sensitive probes for new physics models that violate lepton flavour universality. Recent tests of lepton universality in rare $b\to s\ell\ell$ decays and semileptonic $b\to cτ\barν_τ$ transitions have shown some tensions with the precise SM predictions. These proceedings summarise the latest results on lepton flavour universality from the LHCb experiment.
Semileptonic $b \rightarrow s\ell \ell$ processes constitute a good probe for new physics phenomena: new particles contributing to the loops could affect branching fractions and angular distributions, and have different couplings to different lepton families, thus violating lepton flavour universality. Recent results from the LHCb experiment are reviewed.
The Belle Collaboration presented three recent Belle analyses: The search for $B\rightarrow lνγ$ ($l = e, μ$) with improved hadronic tagging, the search for $B\rightarrow μν_μ$ with inclusive tagging and the test of lepton universality in $B\rightarrow K^*ll$ ($l = e, μ$) decays.
Recent anomalies in the decays of $B$ mesons and the Higgs boson provide hints towards lepton flavor (universality) violating physics beyond the Standard Model. We observe that four-fermion operators which can explain the $B$-physics anomalies have corresponding analogs in the kaon sector, and we analyze their impact on $K\toπ\ell \ell'$ and $K\to\ell \ell'$ decays $(\ell=μ,e)$. For these processes, we note the corresponding physics opportunities at the NA62 experiment. In particular, assuming minimal flavor violation, we comment on the required improvements in sensitivity necessary to test th…
We suggest a new class of tests for searching for lepton flavor non-universality (LFNU) using ratio observables and based on correlations among the underlying LFNU new physics (NP) effects in several (seemingly independent) di-lepton and single lepton + jet(s) processes. This is demonstrated by studying the effects generated by LFNU 4-Fermi interactions involving 3rd generation quarks. We find that the sensitivity to the scale ($Λ$) of the LFNU 4-Fermi operators significantly improves when the correlations among the various di-lepton +jets and single-lepton + jets processes are used, reaching …
The coupling of the electroweak gauge bosons of the Standard Model (SM) to leptons is flavour universal. Extensions of the SM do not necessarily have this property. Rare decays of heavy flavour are suppressed in the SM and new particles may give sizeable contributions to these processes, therefore, their precise study allows for sensitive tests of lepton flavour universality. Of particular interest are rare b to sll decays that are well accessible at the LHCb experiment. Recent results from LHCb on lepton flavour universality in rare b to sll decays are discussed.
Several measurements of tree- and loop-level b-hadron decays performed in the recent years hint at a possible violation of Lepton Universality. This article presents an experimental and theoretical overview of the current status of the field.
A recent proposal for explaining discrepancies in angular observables in the rare decay B --> K*mu+mu- with a gauged L_mu - L_tau current carried with it the prediction of lepton flavor universality violation in related B-meson decays. This prediction gained empirical support with a subsequent hint for lepton flavor universality violation in the B --> K l+l- decay by LHCb. In this short paper we fully quantify the prediction including the associated uncertainties. We also provide new predictions for a variety of additional observables sensitive to lepton flavor universality violation in B-meso…
We study the flavor universality of the lepton couplings with the W and Z bosons. Currently, it is constrained by the electroweak precision observables. We focus on the leptonic decay of the pion. It is shown that the decay is expected to have a comparable or better sensitivity to the lepton-flavor universality in the near future. Furthermore, it provides a complementary information in determining the Wlnu couplings without assuming new physics models. This result is applied to a model of the extra lepton.
We construct a semi-inclusive Lepton Flavour Universality (LFU) ratio, $R_Σ$, to test $μ/e$ universality in $b\to s\ell^+\ell^-$ transitions at $e^+e^-$ $B$-meson factories. Combining different decay channels, this observable maximises the sensitivity to possible LFU violations of short distance origin, yet preserving a clean theoretical interpretation in case of a deviation from its Standard Model prediction, $R_Σ^{\rm SM}=1$.
Leptoquarks are prime candidates for explaining the intriguing hints for lepton flavour universality violation. In particular, the $SU(2)_L$ doublet of scalar leptoquarks $S_2$ is capable of providing an explanation for the tensions between the measurements and the Standard Model predictions in $(g-2)_μ$, $b\to s\ell^+ \ell^-$ and $b\to cτν$ processes, as well as in non-resonant di-electron production. However, in the minimal setup with a single leptoquark generation, a common explanation for all these issues is not possible as this would lead to unacceptably large charged lepton flavour viola…
We show that a detector placed near a beta-beam storage ring can probe lepton number violating interactions, as predicted by supersymmetric theories with R-parity non-conservation. In the presence of such interactions, nu_tau can be produced during beta-decay leading to tau leptons through weak interactions. Alternatively, electron neutrinos from beta-decay of radioactive ions can produce tau leptons in a nearby detector through these interactions. The muons from the decay of these tau leptons can be readily identified in a small iron calorimeter detector and will signal violation of R-parity.
The electroweak sector of the Standard Model contains three generations of charged leptons $\ell^-\in\{e^-,μ^-,τ^-\}$ as exact replicas of each other, except for their Yukawa couplings to the Higgs that determine their masses. The Yukawas, and thereby, the masses, are not predicted but are parameters in the theory. A basic tenet in the formalism, known as lepton universality, is equality of the couplings to the electroweak gauge bosons $\{γ, Z, W^-\}$ among all three generations, and has mostly stood the test of time. However, precision tests in $B$ decays have recently posed serious challenge…
Recently hints of lepton flavor non-universality emerged in the BaBar and LHCb experiments. In this paper we propose tests of lepton universality in $ν_τ$ scattering. To parametrize the new physics we adopt an effective Lagrangian approach and consider the neutrino deep inelastic scattering processes $ν_τ+ N \to τ+ X$ and $ν_μ+ N \to μ+ X$ where we assume the largest new physics effects are in the $τ$ sector. We also consider an explicit leptoquark model in our calculations. In order to make comparison with the standard model and also in order to cancel out the uncertainties of the parton dist…
In recent years, evidence for lepton flavour universality violation beyond the Standard Model has been accumulated. In this context, a singly charged $SU(2)_L$ singlet scalar ($ϕ^\pm$) is very interesting, as it can only have flavour off-diagonal couplings to neutrinos and charged leptons, therefore necessarily violating lepton flavour (universality). In fact, it gives a (necessarily constructive) tree-level effect in $\ell\to\ell^\primeνν$ processes, while contributing to charged lepton flavour violating only at the loop-level. Therefore, it can provide a common explanation of the hints for n…
One of the key assumptions of the Standard Model of fundamental particles is that the interactions of the charged leptons, namely electrons, muons, and taus, differ only because of their different masses. While precision tests have not revealed any definite violation of this assumption, recent studies of B meson decays involving the higher-mass tau lepton have resulted in observations that challenge lepton universality at the level of four standard deviations. A confirmation of these results would point to new particles or interactions, and could have profound implications for our understandin…
Interactions that manifest themselves as lepton number violating processes at low energies in combination with sphaleron transitions typically erase any preexisting baryon asymmetry of the Universe. In this article, we discuss the constraints obtained from an observation of neutrinoless double beta decay in this context. If a new physics mechanism of neutrinoless double beta decay other than the standard light neutrino exchange is observed, typical scenarios of high-scale baryogenesis will be excluded unless the baryon asymmetry is stabilized via some new mechanism. We also sketch how this con…
$SU(2)_L$-invariance links charged dilepton and dineutrino couplings. Phenomenological implications are worked out for flavor changing neutral currents involving strange, charm, beauty and top quark transitions in a model-independent way. We put forward novel tests of lepton universality and lepton flavor conservation in $|Δc|= |Δu|=1$ and $|Δb|= |Δq|=1$, $q=d,s$, transitions suitable for the experiments Belle II and BES III. Single top production plus dileptons uniquely probes semileptonic four-fermion $|Δt|= |Δq'|=1$, $q'=u,c$, couplings and further study at the LHC is encouraged. Tests with…
A recent analysis of the LEP data shows an interesting deviation from lepton universality in W boson decays. An excess at the level of 2.8 sigma is found in the tau mode branching ratio with respect to the other two modes. It is suggested that this seeming lepton non-universality might stem from pair production of charged Higgs bosons almost degenerate with W, that preferentially decay to heavy fermions. It is shown that the deviation can be reduced to 1.4 sigma in two Higgs doublet model I without any conflict with the existing direct or indirect constraints. This conclusion is largely indepe…
The Standard Model requires the three known leptonic families to have identical couplings to the gauge bosons. The present experimental tests on lepton universality are reviewed, both for the charged and neutral current sectors. Our knowledge about the Lorentz structure of the $l^-\toν_l l'^-\barν_{l'}$ transition amplitudes is also discussed.
We confront the indications of lepton flavor universality (LFU) violation observed in semi-tauonic $B$ meson decays with new physics (NP) searches using high $p_T$ tau leptons at the LHC. Using effective field theory arguments we correlate possible non-standard contributions to semi-tauonic charged currents with the $τ^+ τ^-$ signature at high energy hadron colliders. Several representative standard model extensions put forward to explain the anomaly are examined in detail: (i) weak triplet of color-neutral vector resonances, (ii) second Higgs doublet and (iii) scalar or (iv) vector leptoquark…
We point out two simple but instructive possibilities to construct the charged lepton and neutrino mass matrices, from which the nearly bi-maximal neutrino mixing with large T violation can naturally emerge. The two lepton mixing scenarios are compatible very well with current experimental data on solar and atmospheric neutrino oscillations, and one of them may lead to an observable T-violating asymmetry between ν_μ--> ν_e and ν_e --> ν_μtransitions in the long-baseline neutrino oscillation experiments. Their implications on the neutrinoless double beta decay are also discussed.
Lepton flavor universality can be tested in the semileptonic decays $Λ_b\to Λ_c^{(\ast)}$ where $Λ_c^{(\ast)}$ denotes either the ground state $Λ_c(2286)$ (with $J^P=1/2^+$) or its orbital excitations $Λ_c(2595)$ (with $J^P=1/2^-$) and $Λ_c(2625)$ (with $J^P=3/2^-$). We calculate the differential decay rates as well as the branching fractions of these decays for both tauonic and muonic modes with form factors obtained from a covariant confined quark model previously developed by us. We present results for the rate ratios of the tauonic and muonic modes which provide important tests of lepton f…
The Standard Model of particle physics predicts that charged leptons have the same electroweak interaction strength. This symmetry, called lepton flavour universality, was found to hold in a wide range of particle decays. One observable that is sensitive to lepton flavour universality is the ratio of branching fractions $R_K=\mathcal B(B^+\to K^+μ^+μ^-)$ $/$ $\mathcal B(B^+\to K^+e^+e^-)$. This quantity is measured using $9$ fb$^{-1}$ of proton-proton collision data recorded by the LHCb experiment at CERN's Large Hadron Collider. For the dilepton invariant mass squared range $q^2\in(1.1$ $\tex…
We interpret the recent hints for lepton flavor universality violation in rare $B$ meson decays. Based on a model-independent effective Hamiltonian approach, we determine regions of new physics parameter space that give a good description of the experimental data on $R_K$ and $R_{K^*}$, which is in tension with Standard Model predictions. We suggest further measurements that can help narrowing down viable new physics explanations. We stress that the measured values of $R_K$ and $R_{K^*}$ are fully compatible with new physics explanations of other anomalies in rare $B$ meson decays based on the…
We show that the observed anomalies in the lepton sector can be explained in extensions of the Standard Model that are natural and, therefore, resolve the Higgs sector hierarchy problem. The scale of new physics is around the TeV and Technicolor-like theories are ideal candidate models.
Several experiments observed deviations from the Standard Model (SM) in the flavour sector: LHCb found a $4-5\,σ$ discrepancy compared to the SM in $b\to sμ^+μ^-$ transitions (recently supported by an Belle analysis) and CMS reported a non-zero measurement of $h\toμτ$ with a significance of $2.4\,σ$. Furthermore, BELLE, BABAR and LHCb founds hints for the violation of flavour universality in $B\to D^{(*)}τν$. In addition, there is the long-standing discrepancy in the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon. Interestingly, all these anomalies are related to muons and taus, while the corresponding…
In this paper, we consider the Standard Model (SM) with one family of vector-like (VL) leptons, which couple to all three families of the SM leptons. We study the constraints on this model coming from the heavy charged lepton mass bound, electroweak precision data, the muon anomalous magnetic moment, lepton flavor violation, Higgs decay constraints and a recently measured lepton non-universality observable, $R_{K^{*0}}$. We find that the strongest constraints are coming from the muon $g-2, \ R_{μμ}=Γ(h\toμμ)/Γ(h\toμμ)_\text{SM}, \ R_{γγ}$ and $\text{BR}(μ\to eγ)$. Although VL leptons couple to…
The seeming violation of universality in the tau lepton coupling to the W boson suggested by LEP II data is studied using an Effective Field Theory (EFT) approach. Within this framework we explore how this feature fits into the current constraints from electroweak precision observables using different assumptions about the flavor structure of New Physics, namely [U(2) x U(1)]^5 and U(2)^5. We show the importance of leptonic and semileptonic tau decay measurements, giving 3-4 TeV bounds on the New Physics effective scale at 90% C.L. We conclude under very general assumptions that it is not poss…
We analyse the violations of lepton-flavour universality in the ratios B(P -> l nu)/B(P -> l' nu) using a general effective theory approach, discussing various flavour-symmetry breaking patterns of physics beyond the SM. We find that in models with Minimal Lepton Flavour Violation the effects are too small to be observed in the next generations of experiments in all relevant meson systems (P = Pi, K, B). In a Grand Unified framework with a minimal breaking of the flavour symmetry, the effects remain small in Pi and K decays while large violations of lepton-flavour universality are possible in …
Motivated by the prospects for an improved test of lepton universality in K -> l νdecays by the NA62 experiment at CERN, we study predictions for the possible lepton non-universality in K -> l νdecays in supersymmetric models. Violations of μ-e universality in this process may originate from mixing effects in the right-handed slepton sector, providing a unique window into this aspect of supersymmetric flavour physics in the large-\tanβregion. Minimal unification scenarios with universal soft supersymmetry-breaking terms at the GUT scale would predict negligible violation of lepton universality…
We propose a novel method to probe the persistent hints of Lepton Flavour Universality violation observed in semileptonic $B$ decays. Relying on the specific properties of the Belle II experiment, it consists in comparing the inclusive rates of $Υ(4S) \to e^\pm μ^\mp X$, $Υ(4S) \to μ^\pm τ_{\rm had}^\mp X$ and $Υ(4S) \to e^\pm τ_{\rm had}^\mp X$. We show that such a measurement can be directly related to the ratio $R(X)_{τ\ell} \equiv Γ(b\to X τν) / Γ(b \to X \ell ν)$ ($\ell=e$ or $μ$), once appropriate experimental cuts are applied to suppress the effects of neutral $B$ mixing and leptons emi…
Lepton flavour universality (LFU) in B-decays is revisited by considering a class of semileptonic operators defined at a scale Lambda above the electroweak scale v. The importance of quantum effects, so far neglected in the literature, is emphasised. We construct the low-energy effective Lagrangian taking into account the running effects from Lambda down to v through the one-loop renormalization group equations (RGE) in the limit of exact electroweak symmetry and QED RGEs from v down to the 1 GeV scale. The most important quantum effects turn out to be the modification of the leptonic coupling…
We present a proposal for detecting new physics at a B-factory running at the $Υ(3S)$ resonance by testing lepton universality to the few percent level in the leptonic decays of the $Υ(1S)$ and $Υ(2S)$ resonances tagged by the dipion in the chain decay: $Υ(3S) \to pi^+π^-Υ(1S,2S)$; $Υ(1S,2S) \to \ell^+\ell^-$, $\ell=e,μ,τ$.
Recent searches for first-generation leptoquarks and heavy right-handed $W_R$ bosons have seen excesses in final states with electrons and jets. A bizarre property of these excesses is that they appear to violate lepton universality. With these results in mind, we study the phenomenology of supersymmetric models in which the Higgs arises as the sneutrino in an electron supermultiplet. Since the electron is singled out in this approach, one can naturally account for the lepton flavor structure of the excesses. In this work, we show that in such a framework, one can significantly alleviate the t…
The singly charged $SU(2)_L$ singlet scalar, with its necessarily flavour violating couplings to leptons, lends itself particularly well for an explanation of the Cabibbo Angle Anomaly and of hints for lepton flavour universality violation in $τ\to μ\bar νν$. In a setup addressing both anomalies, we predict loop-induced effects in $τ\to eγ$ and in $τ\to eμμ$. A recast of ATLAS selectron and smuon searches allows us to derive a coupling-independent lower limit of $\approx 200$ GeV on the mass of the singly charged singlet scalar. At a future $e^+e^-$ collider, dark matter mono-photon searches c…
Recent hints for lepton-flavor non-universality in $B$-meson decays can be interpreted as hints for the existence of leptoquarks. We show that scalar leptoquarks unavoidably arise in grand unified theories, using the well-known Pati-Salam model as an example. These GUT-motivated leptoquarks can have a number of appealing features including automatic absence of proton decay, purely chiral couplings, and relations between the various leptoquark couplings. We show that $R(K^{(*)})$ can be connected to the neutrino mass matrix that arises via type-II seesaw, resulting in testable lepton flavor vio…
In high energy exclusive processes involving leptons, QED corrections can be sensitive to infrared scales like the lepton mass and the soft photon energy cut, resulting in large logarithms that need to be resummed to all order in $α$. When considering the ratio of the exclusive processes between two different lepton flavors, the ratio $R$ can be expressed in terms of factorized functions in the decoupled leptonic sectors. While some of the functional terms cancel, there remain the large logarithms due to the lepton mass difference and the energy cut. This factorization process can be universal…
We examine lepton flavor violating couplings of the neutrinos to W boson in medium energy setup of a beta-beam experiment. We show that muon production via quasielastic scattering and deep inelastic scattering processes nu_e n-> mu p and nu_e N-> mu X are very sensitive to W-mu-nu_e couplings. We perform a model independent analysis and obtain 95% confidence level bounds on these couplings.
We discuss the current status of lepton flavour universality observables in semileptonic charged and neutral current $B$ meson decays. We recapitulate the current experimental situation. Assuming the current tensions with the SM are of beyond the Standard Model origin we present their implications for the effective theory couplings. Then we discuss general leptoquark models before finally focussing on the model with two scalar leptoquarks ($R_2$ and $S_3$) which have couplings connected by the underlying Grand Unified Theory framework. We present the viability of the model with regard to lepto…
Recent results from the LHC's first run have revealed intriguing departures from lepton flavour universality in the semi-leptonic decays of $B$-mesons. We discuss the complementary role that rare kaon decays can provide in testing new physics explanations of these flavour anomalies. In the framework of minimal flavour violation, we relate the chiral low-energy constants involved in $K\toπ\ell\ell'$ and $K\to\ell\ell'$ ($\ell = μ\mbox{ or } e$) with the new physics Wilson coefficients of the $b\to s$ effective Hamiltonian. We comment on the determination of these low-energy constants at NA62 an…
We investigate whether the $2.6σ$ deviation from lepton flavour universality in $B^+\to K^+\ell^+\ell^-$ decays recently observed at the LHCb experiment can be explained in minimal composite Higgs models. We show that a visible departure from universality is indeed possible if left-handed muons have a sizable degree of compositeness. Constraints from $Z$-pole observables are avoided by a custodial protection of the muon coupling. The deficit in the invisible $Z$ width at LEP is explained in the same region of parameters.
Lepton Flavor Universality Violation (LFUV) in $b\rightarrow s l^+ l^-$ processes is investigated in the context of a 331 model. It is shown that in order to explain the experimentally observed deviations from the Standard Model in these FCNC transitions, a non-minimal version of the model has to be considered. We investigate the ability of this model in accomodating the model-independant scenarios currently favored by global fits.
Radiative corrections to $B \to D \ell ν_{\ell}$ decays can have an impact on predictions and measurements of the lepton universality ratios $\mathcal{R}(D^+)$ and $\mathcal{R}(D^0)$. These proceedings summarise a study on the comparison between recent calculations of soft-photon corrections on these ratios and the corrections simulated by the PHOTOS package. Also the impact of Coulomb interactions, not simulated in PHOTOS, is discussed. Using pseudo-experiments, the effect of high-energy photon emission is studied in an LHCb-like environment, showing a bias of up to 7\% on measurements of $\m…
A properly defined and suitably broken $U(2)$ flavour symmetry leads to successful quantitative relations between quark mass ratios and CKM angles. At the same time the intrinsic distinction introduced by $U(2)$ between the third and the first two families of quarks and leptons may support anomalies in charged and neutral current semi-leptonic $B$-decays of the kind tentatively observed in current flavour experiments. We show how this is possible by the exchange of the $(3,1)_{2/3}$ vector leptoquark in two $U(2)$-models with significantly different values of Lepton Flavour Universality violat…
We analyze the prospects for using gravitational waves produced in early universe phase transitions as a complementary probe of the flavor anomalies in B meson decays. We focus on the Left-Right SU(4) Model, for which the strength of the observed lepton universality violation and consistency with other experiments impose a vast hierarchy between the symmetry breaking scales. This leads to a multipeaked gravitational wave signature within the reach of upcoming gravitational wave detectors.
Data in $B$-meson decays indicate violations of lepton flavour universality, thereby raising the question about such phenomena in the charm sector. We perform a model-independent analysis of NP contributions in (semi)-leptonic decays of $D_{(s)}$ mesons which originate from $c \to d \bar{\ell} ν_{\ell}$ and $c \to s \bar{\ell} ν_{\ell}$ charge-current interactions. Starting from the most general low-energy effective Hamiltonian containing four-fermion operators and the corresponding short-distance coefficients, we explore the impact of new (pseudo)-scalar, vector and tensor operators and const…
The electroweak penguin B decays mediated by $b \to s \ell^+ \ell^- $ transitions are flavour-changing neutral current processes, and are thus sensitive to new physics owing to potential contributions of heavy particles in the quantum loop. Recently, LHCb has obtained interesting results, where the possible hints of lepton family universality violation (LFUV) could be seen. We report a new measurement of the LFUV observable $R_{K}$, the ratio of branching fractions of $B\to Kμ^{+}μ^{-}$ to $B\to Ke^{+}e^{-}$, based on the full data sample recorded by Belle at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance from $e^+e^-…
High precision electroweak tests, such as deviations from the Standard Model expectations of the Lepton Flavor Universality breaking in K->lnu (with l= e or mu), represent a powerful tool to test the Standard Model and, hence, to constrain or obtain indirect hints of New Physics beyond it. We explore such a possibility within Supersymmetric theories. Interestingly enough, a process that in itself does not need lepton flavor violation to occur, i.e. the violation of mu-e non-universality in K_l2, proves to be quite effective in constraining not only relevant regions of SUSY models where lepton …
We analyze the one loop corrections to leptonic W and Z decays in an R-parity violating extension to the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). We find that lepton universality violation in the Z line-shape variables alone would strengthen the bounds on the magnitudes of the lambda' couplings, but a global fit on all data leaves the bounds virtually unchanged at |lambda'_{33k}| < 0.42 and |lambda'_{23k}| < 0.50 at the 2 sigma level. Bounds from W decays are less stringent: |lambda'_{33k}| < 2.4 at 2 sigma, as a consequence of the weaker Fermilab experimental bounds on lepton universalit…
