We explore an $A_4$-symmetric flavor based left-right symmetric model with linear seesaw mechanism and study the associated neutrino phenomenology. The framework offers the advantage of studying neutrino mass, non-unitarity effects in lepton sector, lepton flavour violation and CP violation. The fermion content of the model includes usual quarks, leptons along with additional sterile fermion per generation while the scalar content includes Higgs doublets and scalar bidoublet. We study analytically as well as numerically the correlation between different model parameters and their dependence on experimentally determined neutrino observables.
We summarize the phenomenological constraints on seesaw scenarios defined at the TeV scale and provide a simple extension of the Standard Model which naturally leads to a testable mechanism of neutrino mass generation.
Differently from the canonical seesaw mechanism, which is grounded in grand unified theories, the inverse seesaw mechanism lacks a special framework that realizes it naturally. In this work we advocate that the 3-3-1 model with right-handed neutrinos has such an appropriate framework to accommodate the inverse seesaw mechanism. We also provide an explanation for the smallness of the $μ$ parameter and estimate the branching ratio for the rare lepton flavor violation process $μ\rightarrow eγ$.
In left-right symmetric seesaw models an eight-fold degeneracy among the right-handed neutrino mass matrices is known to exist. We use stability and viability of leptogenesis as criteria in order to discriminate among the degenerate solutions and to partially lift the eight-fold degeneracy.
There are some radiative origins for the neutrino masses in the conventional left-right symmetric models with the usual bi-doublet and triplet Higgs scalars. These radiative contributions could dominate over the tree-level seesaw and could explain the observed neutrino masses.
In a class of left-right symmetric models for linear seesaw, a neutrinoless double beta decay induced by the left- and right-handed charged currents together will only depend on the breaking details of left-right and electroweak symmetries. This neutrinoless double beta decay can reach the experimental sensitivities if the right-handed charged gauge boson is below the 100 TeV scale.
We extend the Type I and Type III seesaw mechanisms to generate neutrino masses within the left-right symmetric theories where parity is spontaneously broken. We construct a next to minimal left-right symmetric model where neutrino masses are generated through a variant $double$ seesaw mechanism. In our model at least one of the triplet fermions and the right handed neutrinos are at TeV scale and others are heavy. The phenomenological aspects and testability of the TeV scale particles at collider experiments are discussed. The decays of heavy fermions leading to leptogenesis are pointed out.
We extend the Type I seesaw and suggest a $new$ seesaw mechanism to generate neutrino masses within the left-right symmetric theories where parity is spontaneously broken. We construct a next to minimal left-right symmetric model where neutrino masses are determined irrespective of the B-L breaking scale and call it the $new$ seesaw mechanism. In this scenario B-L scale can be very low. This makes B-L gauge boson and the quasi-Dirac $heavy$ leptons very light. These TeV scale particles could have large impact on lepton flavor and CP violating processes. We also shed light on the phenomenologic…
We propose a new supersymmetric left right model with Higgs doublets carrying odd B-L charge, higgs bidoublet and heavy Higgs triplets with zero B-L charge and a set of sterile neutrinos which are singlet under the gauge group. We show that spontaneous parity violation can be achieved naturally in this model and the neutrino masses arise from the so called type III seesaw mechanism. We also discuss the possible phenomenology in the context of neutrino masses and dark matter.
We propose a left-right symmetric framework with universal seesaw mechanism for the generation of masses of the Standard Model quarks and leptons. Heavy vector-like singlet quarks and leptons are required for generation of Standard Model-like quark and lepton masses through seesaw mechanism. A softly broken $Z_2$ symmetry distinguishes the lepton sector and the quark sector of the model. This leads to the presence of some lepton-specific interactions that can produce unique collider signatures which can be explored at the current Large Hadron Collider run and also future colliders.
To generate the lepton and quark masses in the left-right symmetric models, we can consider a universal seesaw scenario by integrating out heavy fermion singlets which have the Yukawa couplings with the fermion and Higgs doublets. The universal seesaw scenario can also accommodate the leptogenesis with Majorana or Dirac neutrinos. We show the fermion singlets can obtain their heavy masses from certain global symmetry breaking, which is driven by one complex scalar singlet or two. The global symmetry can be identified to the Peccei-Quinn symmetry since it is mediated to the standard model quark…
We generalize the democratic neutrino mixing Ansatz by incorporating the type-II seesaw mechanism with S(3) flavor symmetry. We find that bilarge neutrino mixing can naturally appear if the flavor democracy contribution is strongly suppressed due to significant cancellation between the conventional seesaw and triplet mass terms. Explicit S(3) symmetry breaking yields successful neutrino phenomenology and various testable correlations between the neutrino mass and mixing parameters. Among the results are a normal neutrino mass ordering, $0.005 \le |U_{e3}| \le 0.057$, $1 - \sin^2 2θ_{23} \ge 0.…
We study leptogenesis in supersymmetric SO(10) models with a left-right symmetric seesaw mechanism, including flavour effects and the contribution of the next-to-lightest right-handed neutrino. Assuming M_D = M_u and hierarchical light neutrino masses, we find that successful leptogenesis is possible for 4 out of the 8 right-handed neutrino mass spectra that are compatible with the observed neutrino data. An accurate description of charged fermion masses appears to be an important ingredient in the analysis.
We discuss a class of left-right symmetric theories with a universal seesaw mechanism for fermion masses and mixing and the implications for neutrinoless double beta ($0νββ$) decay where neutrino masses are governed by natural type-II seesaw dominance. The scalar sector consists of left- and right-handed Higgs doublets and triplets, while the conventional Higgs bidoublet is absent in this scenario. We use the Higgs doublets to implement the left-right and the electroweak symmetry breaking. On the other hand, the Higgs triplets with induced vacuum expectation values can give Majorana masses to …
We suggest a new left-right symmetric model implementing a low-scale seesaw mechanism in which quantum consistency requires three families of fermions. The symmetry breaking route to the Standard Model determines the profile of the "next" expected new physics, characterized either by the simplest left-right gauge symmetry or by the 3-3-1 scenario. The resulting $Z^\prime$ gauge bosons can be probed at the LHC and provide a production portal for the right-handed neutrinos. On the other hand, its flavor changing interactions would affect the K, D and B neutral meson systems.
We suggest natural TeV-scale seesaw with non-negligible left-right neutrino mixings as preserving tiny neutrino masses. Our analysis is exhibited, without loss of generality, by taking a basis of the neutrino matrices, in which the condition to obtain the left-right mixings is clear. We also suggest a flavor symmetry as an underlying theory, which naturally realizes our setup to preserve tiny neutrino masses. Our setup can predict a magnitude of sin theta_13 in a region of 0.10 to 0.20, depending on the deviation from maximal atmospheric neutrino mixing and CP phase. We also investigate experi…
We propose two Type-II seesaw scenarios for the neutrino mass matrix in the left-right symmetric model, in which the Higgs triplet Yukawa coupling matrix takes the appealing Friedberg-Lee texture. We show that the nearly tri-bimaximal neutrino mixing pattern, which is especially favored by current neutrino oscillation data, can be obtained from both scenarios. We also show that the cosmological baryon number asymmetry can naturally be interpreted in these two scenarios via the flavor-independent leptogenesis mechanism.
In the left-right symmetric models, we can take the left-right symmetry to be the charge-conjugation and then impose a global symmetry under which the left- and right-handed fermion doublets carry equal but opposite charges. Consequently, we may introduce two Higgs bi-doublets to give the desired fermion mass spectrum. The global symmetry is identified to a Peccei-Quinn symmetry. We can introduce a complex scalar singlet to break the global Peccei-Quinn symmetry at a high scale. This symmetry breaking is also responsible for generating the heavy Majorana masses of the fermion singlets which ha…
We provide an $A_4$ based flavor symmetric scenario to accommodate the inverse seesaw mechanism for explaining light neutrino masses and mixing. We find that the lepton mixing, in particular the tri-bimaximal mixing pattern and its deviation through nonzero $θ_{13}$, is originated solely from the flavor structure of the lepton number violating contribution of the neutral lepton mass matrix. Here we discuss in detail how a nonzero value of $θ_{13}$ is correlated with the other parameters in the framework and its impact on the Dirac CP phase $δ$. We also analyze the non-unitarity effects on lept…
We investigate the possibility of explanation for the muon anomalous magnetic moment $g_μ-2$ in a left-right model with an inverse seesaw mechanism. We emphasize that the observed deviation from the Standard Model predictions can be accommodated in a large part of the parameter space of this class of models, where loops with massive neutrinos and charged Higgs boson as well as the weak $W$ boson contribute significantly to $g_μ-2$. Stringent constraints due to lepton flavor violation $μ\to{e}γ$, $μ$-${e}$~conversion and the electron anomalous magnetic moment $g_e-2$ are considered, and the res…
We consider a minimal left-right model with a Peccei-Quinn symmetry, where generalised charge conjugation plays the role of the left-right symmetry. We show how the spontaneous breaking of the Peccei-Quinn symmetry by a scalar singlet can provide us with solutions not only to the strong CP and dark matter problems but can also help to generate naturally suppressed off-diagonal CKM elements and small neutrino masses via the inverse seesaw mechanism. For this, we make use of an economical scalar sector composed of a bi-doublet, two doublets and a singlet only. As a result of the new gauge bosons…
We discuss scalar triplet leptogenesis in a specific left-right symmetric seesaw model. We show that the Majorana phases that are present in the model can be effectively used to saturate the existing upper limit on the CP-asymmetry of the triplets. We solve the relevant Boltzmann equations and analyze the viability of triplet leptogenesis. It is known for this kind of scenario that the efficiency of leptogenesis is maximal if there exists a hierarchy between the branching ratios of the triplet decays into leptons and Higgs particles. We show that triplet leptogenesis typically favors branching…
The minimal SUSY SO(10) GUT models with {\bf 10}, {\bf 126} and {\bf 210} Higgs and only renormalizable couplings has been shown to provide a simple way to understand the neutrino mixings as well as the ratio $Δm^2_\odot/Δm^2_A$ in terms of quark mixing parameter $θ_{Cabibbo}$, provided neutrino masses are described by type II seesaw formula. However, in this minimal picture, it is impossible to realize type II dominance with renormalizable couplings in 4-dimensions. We show that this problem can be cured by embedding this model into a warped 5-dimensional space time with warping between the P…
We study the new physics contributions to neutrinoless double beta decay ($0νββ$) half-life and lepton flavour violation (LFV) amplitude within the framework of the minimal left-right symmetric model (MLRSM). Considering all possible new physics contributions to $0νββ$ and charged lepton flavour violation $μ\rightarrow e γ, μ\rightarrow 3e$ in MLRSM, we constrain the parameter space of the model from the requirement of satisfying existing experimental bounds. Assuming the breaking scale of the left-right symmetry to be $\mathcal{O}(1)$ TeV accessible at ongoing and near future collider experim…
We consider a class of left-right symmetric model with enlarged gauge group $SU(3)_c \times SU(3)_L \times SU(3)_R \times U(1)_X$ without having scalar bitriplet. In the absence of scalar bitriplet, there is no Dirac mass term for fermions including usual quarks and leptons. We introduce new isosinglet vector-like fermions so that all the fermions get their masses through a universal seesaw mechanism. We extend our discussion to neutrino mass and its implications in neutrinoless double beta decay ($0νββ$). We show that for TeV scale $SU(3)_R$ gauge bosons, the heavy-light neutrino mixing contr…
Motivated by the crucial role played by the discrete flavour symmetry groups in explaining the observed neutrino oscillation data, we consider the $A_4$ realization of linear seesaw by extending the standard model (SM) particle content with two types of right-handed neutrinos along with the flavon fields, and the SM symmetry with $A_4\times Z_4\times Z_2$ and a global symmetry $U(1)_X$ which is broken explicitly by the Higgs potential. We scrutinize whether this model can explain the recent results from neutrino oscillation experiments by searching for parameter space that can accommodate the …
A left-right symmetric model is discussed with new mirror fermions and a Higgs sector with two doublets and neutral scalar singlets. The seesaw mechanism is generalized, including not only neutrino masses but also charged fermion masses. The spectrum of heavy neutrinos presents a second seesaw mass matrix and has neutrinos masses naturally in the TeV region. The model has very clear signatures for the new neutral vector gauge bosons. Two classes of models are discussed. New mirror neutrinos can be very light and a new $Z^{\prime}$ can be discriminated from other models by a very high invisible…
The implementation of the Type III seesaw mechanism for neutrino masses in the context of left-right theories where parity is broken spontaneously is investigated. We propose a simple left-right symmetric theory where the neutrinos masses are generated through a double seesaw mechanism which is a combination of Type I and Type III seesaw. In this context we find a possible candidate for the cold dark matter in the Universe and discuss the Baryogenesis via Leptogenesis mechanisms. The spectrum of the theory, the phenomenological constraints and the possibility to test the theory at the Large Ha…
We study thermal leptogenesis in a broad class of supersymmetric SO(10) models with a left-right symmetric seesaw mechanism, taking into account flavour effects and the contribution of the next-to-lightest right-handed neutrino supermultiplet. Assuming M_D = M_u and a normal hierarchy of light neutrino masses, we show that four out of the eight right-handed neutrino mass spectra reconstructed from low-energy neutrino data can lead to successful leptogenesis with a reheating temperature in the (10^9 - 10^10) GeV range. In the remaining four solutions, leptogenesis is dominated by N_2 decays, as…
We propose a low scale renormalizable left-right symmetric theory that successfully explains the observed SM fermion mass hierarchy, the tiny values for the light active neutrino masses and is consistent with the lepton and baryon asymmetries of the Universe, the muon and electron anomalous magnetic moments as well as the with the constraints arising from the meson oscillations. In the proposed model the top and exotic quarks obtain masses at tree level, whereas the masses of the bottom, charm and strange quarks, tau and muon leptons are generated from a tree level Universal Seesaw mechanism, …
We propose new mechanisms for small neutrino masses based on clockwork mechanism. The Standard Model neutrinos and lepton number violating operators communicate through the zero mode of clockwork gears, one of the two couplings of the zero mode is exponentially suppressed by clockwork mechanism. Including all known examples for the clockwork realization of the neutrino masses, different types of models are realized depending on the profile and chirality of the zero mode fermion. Each type of realization would have phenomenologically distinctive features with the accompanying heavy neutrinos.
The standard model left-handed neutrinos and several right-handed neutrinos can obtain a tiny Dirac mass matrix through their mixings with relatively heavy Dirac fermions. In this Dirac seesaw scenario, the mixings involving the left-handed neutrinos can be allowed much larger than those involving the right-handed neutrinos. This undemocratic parameter choice is attractive to phenomenology. We show that the small mixings between the heavy Dirac fermions and the right-handed neutrinos can have a common origin with the observed baryon asymmetry in the universe. We also connect the introduction o…
We classify the textures of the Dirac and the right-handed Majorana neutrino mass matrices, $M_D$ and $M_R$, which can satisfy the so-called ``Strong Scaling Ansatz'' (SSA) within the framework of the seesaw mechanism $M_ν=-M_D^T M_R^{-1} M_D$. We assume that the Dirac neutrino mass matrix has some texture zeros and examine which elements should be zero in order to satisfy the SSA, by taking into account all possible textures for $M_R$. We find that the resulting Dirac neutrino mass matrices have rank 2 as well as the rank of the effective neutrino mass matrix $M_ν$, or rank 1, depending only …
We show that in TeV-scale left-right (L-R) symmetric seesaw models, there are new dominant contributions to the collider signals of heavy Majorana neutrinos arising from the heavy-light neutrino mixing, which directly probe the seesaw matrix in a certain class of models. We propose a way to distinguish this contribution from the widely discussed one that only probes the Majorana nature of the heavy right-handed neutrinos, by analyzing some simple kinematical variables. We find that in this class of L-R seesaw models the existing LHC data already yield slightly stronger constraints on the heavy…
In many extensions of the Standard Model, including a broad class of left-right symmetric and Grand Unified theories, the light neutrino mass matrix is given by the left-right symmetric seesaw formula $M_ν= f v_L - \frac{v^2}{v_R} Y_νf^{-1} Y_ν$, in which the right-handed neutrino mass matrix and the $SU(2)_L$ triplet couplings are proportional to the same matrix f. We propose a systematic procedure for reconstructing the $2^n$ solutions (in the n-family case) for the matrix f as a function of the Dirac neutrino couplings $(Y_ν)_{ij}$ and of the light neutrino mass parameters, which can be use…
In this letter we address the issue of generating appropriate tiny neutrino masses within the framework of a particular $SU(3)_{c}\otimes SU(3)_{L}\otimes U(1)_{X}$ gauge model by adding three singlet exotic Majorana neutrinos to the ones included in the three lepton triplet representations. The theoretical device is the general method of treating gauge models with high symmetries $SU(3)_{c}\otimes SU(N)_{L}\otimes U(1)_{X}$ proposed by Cotăescu more than a decade ago. When it is worked-out in the 3-3-1 model it supplies a unique free parameter ($a$) to be tuned in order to get a realistic mas…
The origin of tiny neutrino masses and the baryon number asymmetry of the Universe are naturally interpreted by the canonical seesaw and leptogenesis mechanisms, in which there are the heavy Majorana neutrino mass matrix $M_{\rm R}$, the Dirac neutrino mass matrix $M_{\rm D}$, the charged-lepton mass matrix $M_\ell$ and the effective (light) neutrino mass matrix $M_ν$. We find that ${\rm Im}\left(\det\left[ M^\dagger_{\rm D} M_{\rm D}, M^\dagger_{\rm R} M_{\rm R} \right]\right)$, ${\rm Im}\left(\det\left[ M_\ell M^\dagger_\ell, M_νM^\dagger_ν\right]\right)$ and ${\rm Im}\left(\det\left[ M_\ell…
The topological classification of one-loop Weinberg operator at dimension-5 leads to systematic categorization of one-loop neutrino mass models. All one-loop neutrino mass models must fall in one of these categories. Among these topological categories, loop extension of canonical seesaw scenarios is interesting in light of the current LHC run. Apart from one-loop contribution, these extensions result in dominant tree-level contribution to neutrino masses. The immediate remedy to obtain dominant one-loop contribution requires combination of flavor symmetries and enlarged field content. Alternat…
Type I and type II seesaw contributions to the mass matrix of light neutrinos are inherently related if left-right symmetry is realized at high energy scales. We investigate implications of such a relation for the interpretation of neutrino data. We proved recently that the left-right symmetric seesaw equation has eight solutions, related by a duality property, for the mass matrix of right-handed neutrinos $M_R$. In this paper the eight allowed structures of $M_R$ are reconstructed analytically and analyzed numerically in a bottom-up approach. We study the dependence of right-handed neutrino m…
We study the implications of the global U(1)R symmetry present in minimal lepton flavor violating implementations of the seesaw mechanism for neutrino masses. In the context of minimal type I seesaw scenarios with a slightly broken U(1)R, we show that, depending on the R-charge assignments, two classes of generic models can be identified. Models where the right-handed neutrino masses and the lepton number breaking scale are decoupled, and models where the parameters that slightly break the U(1)R induce a suppression in the light neutrino mass matrix. We show that within the first class of mode…
We construct a neutrino mass model based on the flavour symmetry group $A_4\times C_4 \times C_6 \times C_2$ which accommodates a light sterile neutrino in the minimal extended seesaw (MES) scheme. Besides the flavour symmetry, we introduce a $U(1)$ gauge symmetry in the sterile sector and also impose CP symmetry. The vacuum alignments of the scalar fields in the model spontaneously break these symmetries and lead to the construction of the fermion mass matrices. With the help of the MES formulas, we extract the light neutrino masses and the mixing observables. In the active neutrino sector, w…
We show that the longitudinal beam polarization option at a future electron-positron collider provides an unambiguous distinction between low-scale seesaw models of neutrino mass. This is possible due to the fact that the pair production cross section of the heavy neutrinos in seesaw models is sensitive to the polarization of the initial lepton beams, and for a suitable choice of the polarization, shows a clear enhancement over the unpolarized cross section. More interestingly, the choice of the beam polarization for which the enhancement is maximum is governed by the size of the light-heavy n…
We study the phenomenology of a supersymmetric left-right model, assuming minimal supergravity boundary conditions. Both left-right and (B-L) symmetries are broken at an energy scale close to, but significantly below the GUT scale. Neutrino data is explained via a seesaw mechanism. We calculate the RGEs for superpotential and soft parameters complete at 2-loop order. At low energies lepton flavour violation (LFV) and small, but potentially measurable mass splittings in the charged scalar lepton sector appear, due to the RGE running. Different from the supersymmetric 'pure seesaw' models, both,…
We discuss ways to probe the origin of neutrino masses at the Energy and Intensity frontiers, in TeV-scale left-right seesaw models where small neutrino masses arise via type-I seesaw mechanism. We consider generic ('vanilla') version of such models as well as a version which leads to 'large' light-heavy neutrino mixing while keeping the neutrino masses small in a natural manner. We point out specific observable implications of these classes of models at the LHC as well as in searches for lepton flavor violating processes such as $μ\to eγ$ and $μ\to 3e$, and also in searches for lepton number …
The Friedberg-Lee (FL) symmetry is generated by a transformation of a fermionic field $q$ to $q + ξz$. This symmetry puts very restrictive constraints on allowed terms in a Lagrangian. Applying this symmetry to $N$ fermionic fields, we find that the number of independent fields is reduced to $N-1$ if the fields have gauge interaction or the transformation is a local one. Using this property, we find that a seesaw model originally with three generations of left- and right-handed neutrinos, with the left-handed neutrinos unaffected but the right-handed neutrinos transformed under the local FL tr…
We analyze the most natural formulations of the minimal lepton flavour violation hypothesis compatible with a type-I seesaw structure with three heavy singlet neutrinos N, and satisfying the requirement of being predictive, in the sense that all LFV effects can be expressed in terms of low energy observables. We find a new interesting realization based on the flavour group $SU(3)_e\times SU(3)_{\ell+N}$ (being $e$ and $\ell$ respectively the SU(2) singlet and doublet leptons). An intriguing feature of this realization is that, in the normal hierarchy scenario for neutrino masses, it allows for…
The seesaw mechanism is the most popular explanation for the smallness of neutrino masses. However, its high scale makes direct tests impossible and only indirect signals at low energies are reachable for collider experiments. One of these indirect links with the high scale is lepton flavor violation (LFV). We discuss LFV decays of sleptons in the context of a SUSY left-right symmetric model that naturally incorporates the seesaw mechanism. This non-minimal embedding of the seesaw leads to observable LFV effects in the right-handed sleptons sector, contrary to minimal models where these are fo…
The Type I, II and hybrid (I+II) seesaw mechanism, which explain why neutrinos are especially light, are consequences of the left-right symmetric model (LRSM). They can be classified by the ranges of parameters of LRSM. We show that a nearly cancellation in general Type-(I+II) seesaw is more natural than other types of seesaw in the LRSM if we consider their stability against radiative correction. In this scenario the small neutrino masses are due to the structure cancellation, and the masses of the right handed neutrino can be of order of O(10)TeV. The realistic model for non-zero neutrino ma…
A minimal flavour violation hypothesis for leptons can be implemented essentially in two ways that are compatible with a type-I seesaw structure with three heavy singlet neutrinos $N$, and that satisfy the requirement of being predictive, in the sense that all lepton flavor violating (LFV) effects can be expressed in terms of low energy observables. The first realization is CP conserving and is based on the flavor group $SU(3)_e\times SU(3)_\ell\times O(3)_N$ (being $e$ and $\ell$ the SU(2) singlet and doublet leptons). The second realization allows for CP violation and is based on $SU(3)_e\ti…
