We construct a neutrino mass model based on the flavour symmetry group $A_4\times C_4 \times C_6 \times C_2$ which accommodates a light sterile neutrino in the minimal extended seesaw (MES) scheme. Besides the flavour symmetry, we introduce a $U(1)$ gauge symmetry in the sterile sector and also impose CP symmetry. The vacuum alignments of the scalar fields in the model spontaneously break these symmetries and lead to the construction of the fermion mass matrices. With the help of the MES formulas, we extract the light neutrino masses and the mixing observables. In the active neutrino sector, we obtain the $\text{TM}_2$ mixing pattern with non-zero reactor angle and broken $μ$-$τ$ reflection symmetry. We express all the active and the sterile oscillation observables in terms of only four real model parameters. Using this highly constrained scenario we predict $\sin^2 θ_{23} =0.545^{+0.003}_{-0.004}$, $\sin δ= -0.911^{+0.006}_{-0.005}$, $|U_{e4}|^2 = 0.029^{+0.009}_{-0.008}$, $|U_{\mu4}|^2 = 0.010^{+0.003}_{-0.003}$ and $|U_{\tau4}|^2 = 0.006^{+0.002}_{-0.002}$ which are consistent with the current data.
The seesaw mechanism can play a key role in the generation of the leptonic mixing in unified models. We consider an unified model with a family symmetry and extended seesaw, and obtain viable fermion masses and mixing (leptonic mixing is close to tri-bi-maximal).
We summarize the phenomenological constraints on seesaw scenarios defined at the TeV scale and provide a simple extension of the Standard Model which naturally leads to a testable mechanism of neutrino mass generation.
We propose a theory based on the $A_5$ discrete group which successfully accounts for lepton masses and mixings. In the proposed model, the neutrino masses arise from an inverse seesaw mechanism. The leptonic mixing consists in a perturbed golden ratio mixing pattern with a strong correlation arising between the leptonic mixing observables, which can be expressed as $θ_{13}$ predicting the other mixing angles and the Dirac CP phase.
Differently from the canonical seesaw mechanism, which is grounded in grand unified theories, the inverse seesaw mechanism lacks a special framework that realizes it naturally. In this work we advocate that the 3-3-1 model with right-handed neutrinos has such an appropriate framework to accommodate the inverse seesaw mechanism. We also provide an explanation for the smallness of the $μ$ parameter and estimate the branching ratio for the rare lepton flavor violation process $μ\rightarrow eγ$.
We present a Grand Unified model based on SO(10) with a Delta(27) family symmetry. Fermion masses and mixings are fitted and agree well with experimental values. An extended seesaw mechanism plays a key role in the generation of the leptonic mixing, which is approximately tri-bi-maximal.
In the context of a typical model for fermion mass matrices, possibly based on the horizontal U(2) symmetry, we explore the effect of the type II seesaw mechanism on lepton mixings. We find that the combined contribution of type I and type II terms is able to explain the large but not maximal 1-2 mixing and the near maximal 2-3 mixing, while the 1-3 mixing angle is predicted to be small.
Neutrino flavor mixing is explained within the recently proposed low-scale minimal linear seesaw model of neutrino mass generation, a variant of the standard linear seesaw led by a Dirac pair of extra sterile neutrinos which is odd under a discrete $Z_2$ symmetry and has a mass at or below the GeV scale. The tri-bimaximal mixing and its deviations are derived straightforwardly on the basis of the symmetry between $μ$ and $τ$ flavors, without introducing non-abelian discrete flavor symmetries in the first place.
We consider different extensions of the standard model which can give rise to the small active neutrino masses through seesaw mechanisms, and their mixing. These tiny neutrino masses are generated at some high energy scale by the heavy seesaw fields which then get sequentially decoupled to give an effective dimension-5 operator. The renormalization group evolution of the masses and the mixing parameters of the three active neutrinos in the high energy as well as the low energy effective theory is reviewed in this article.
We study a class of models for tri-bimaximal neutrino mixing in SO(10) grand unified SUSY framework. Neutrino masses arise from both type-I and type-II seesaw mechanisms. We use dimension five operators in order to not spoil tri-bimaximal mixing by means of type-I contribution in the neutrino sector. We show that it is possible to fit all fermion masses and mixings including also the recent T2K result as deviation from the tri-bimaximal.
We present a general framework for models in which the lepton mixing matrix is the product of the maximal mixing matrix U_ω times a matrix constrained by a well-defined Z_2 symmetry. Our framework relies on neither supersymmetry nor non-renormalizable Lagrangians nor higher dimensions; it relies instead on the double seesaw mechanism and on the soft breaking of symmetries. The framework may be used to construct models for virtually all the lepton mixing matrices of the type mentioned above which have been proposed in the literature.
Understanding the disparate mixing patterns between quarks and leptons is one of the major challenges in particle theory today. I discuss some of the ways to understand this difference within the seesaw framework using new symmetries of quarks and leptons. After a brief introduction to the various types of seesaw formulae, proposals for understanding large solar and atmospheric mixings for the three mass hierarchies i.e. normal, inverted and degenerate, are presented and their implications discussed.
The inverse and linear seesaw scenarios are two typical extensions of the canonical seesaw mechanism, which contain much more sterile degrees of freedom but can naturally explain the smallness of three active neutrino masses at a sufficiently low energy scale (e.g., the TeV scale). To fully describe the mixing among three active neutrinos, three sterile neutrinos and three extra gauge-singlet neutral fermions in either of these two seesaw paradigms, we present the {\it first} full parametrization of the $9\times 9$ flavor mixing matrix in terms of 36 rotation angles and 36 CP-violating phases.…
We explore an $A_4$-symmetric flavor based left-right symmetric model with linear seesaw mechanism and study the associated neutrino phenomenology. The framework offers the advantage of studying neutrino mass, non-unitarity effects in lepton sector, lepton flavour violation and CP violation. The fermion content of the model includes usual quarks, leptons along with additional sterile fermion per generation while the scalar content includes Higgs doublets and scalar bidoublet. We study analytically as well as numerically the correlation between different model parameters and their dependence on…
We discuss neutrino mass and mixing in the framework of the classic seesaw mechanism, involving right-handed neutrinos with large Majorana masses, which provides an appealing way to understand the smallness of neutrino masses. However, with many input parameters, the seesaw mechanism is in general not predictive. We focus on natural implementations of the seesaw mechanism, in which large cancellations do not occur, where one of the right handed neutrinos is dominantly responsible for the atmospheric neutrino mass, while a second right-handed neutrino accounts for the solar neutrino mass, leadi…
We propose a scheme, based on Δ(27) flavor symmetry and supplemented by other discrete symmetries and inverse seesaw mechanism, where both the light neutrino masses and the deviation from tri-bimaximal mixing matrix can be linked to the source of lepton number violation. The hierarchies of the charged leptons are explained. We find that the quark masses including their hierarchies and the mixing can also be constructed in a similar way.
The non-unitarity effects in the leptonic flavor mixing are regarded as one of the generic features of the type-I seesaw model. Therefore, we explore these effects in the TeV-scale type-I seesaw model, and show that there exist non-trivial correlations among the non-unitarity parameters, stemming from the typical flavor structure of the low-scale seesaw model. In general, it follows from analytical discussions and numerical results that all the six non-unitarity parameters are related to three model parameters, while the widely studied parameters η_{eτ} and η_{μτ} cannot be phenomenologically …
We give a general analysis of neutrino mixing in the seesaw mechanism with three flavors. Assuming that the Dirac and u-quark mass matrices are similar, we establish simple relations between the neutrino parameters and individual Majorana masses. They are shown to depend rather strongly on the physical neutrino mixing angles. We calculate explicitly the implied Majorana mass hierarchies for parameter sets corresponding to different solutions to the solar neutrino problem.
In the framework of type II seesaw mechanism we propose two simple but instructive ansatze for neutrino mixing and leptogenesis. In each ansatz, the effective Majorana neutrino mass matrix is composed of two parts -- the part with Z_2 symmetry arises from the ordinary type I seesaw mechanism and the part with S_3 symmetry arises from an additional Higgs triplet vacuum expectation value. The two ansatze can simultaneously account for the current neutrino oscillation data and the cosmological baryon number asymmetry via leptogenesis.
The seesaw enhancement of the bi-large mixings are discussed for the two-zero textures of the neutrino mass matrix. There are no large mixings in both Dirac neutrino mass matrix $m_D$ and right-handed Majorana neutrino mass matrix $M_R$, however, the bi-large mixing is realized via the seesaw mechanism. We present twelve sets of $m_D$ and $M_R$ for the seesaw enhancement and discuss the related phenomena, the $μ\to e+γ$ process and the leptogenesis. The decay rate of $μ\to e+γ$ is enough suppressed due to zeros in the Dirac neutrino mass matrix. Six $m_D$ lead to the lepton asymmetry, which ca…
We generalize the democratic neutrino mixing Ansatz by incorporating the type-II seesaw mechanism with S(3) flavor symmetry. We find that bilarge neutrino mixing can naturally appear if the flavor democracy contribution is strongly suppressed due to significant cancellation between the conventional seesaw and triplet mass terms. Explicit S(3) symmetry breaking yields successful neutrino phenomenology and various testable correlations between the neutrino mass and mixing parameters. Among the results are a normal neutrino mass ordering, $0.005 \le |U_{e3}| \le 0.057$, $1 - \sin^2 2θ_{23} \ge 0.…
We study the possibility of generating deviations from tri-bimaximal (TBM) neutrino mixing to explain the non-zero reactor mixing angle within the framework of both type I and type II seesaw mechanisms. The type I seesaw term gives rise to the $μ-τ$ symmetric TBM pattern of neutrino mass matrix as predicted by generic flavor symmetry models like $A_4$ whereas the type II seesaw term gives rise to the required deviations from TBM pattern to explain the non-zero $θ_{13}$. Considering extremal values of Majorana CP phases such that the neutrino mass eigenvalues have the structure $(m_1, -m_2, m_3…
We consider tri-bimaximal lepton mixing within low-scale seesaw schemes where light neutrino masses arise from TeV scale physics, potentially accessible at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). Two examples are considered, based on the A4 flavor symmetry realized within the inverse or the linear seesaw mechanisms. Both are highly predictive so that in both the light neutrino sector effectively depends only on three mass parameters and one Majorana phase, with no CP violation in neutrino oscillations. We find that the linear seesaw leads to a lower bound for neutrinoless double beta decay while the …
We suggest natural TeV-scale seesaw with non-negligible left-right neutrino mixings as preserving tiny neutrino masses. Our analysis is exhibited, without loss of generality, by taking a basis of the neutrino matrices, in which the condition to obtain the left-right mixings is clear. We also suggest a flavor symmetry as an underlying theory, which naturally realizes our setup to preserve tiny neutrino masses. Our setup can predict a magnitude of sin theta_13 in a region of 0.10 to 0.20, depending on the deviation from maximal atmospheric neutrino mixing and CP phase. We also investigate experi…
Renewed interest in GeV-scale sterile neutrinos capable of explaining active neutrino oscillations via see-saw type I mechanism has been expressed in several proposals of direct searches. Given this activity we estimate the minimal values of sterile-active mixing angles provided one, two, or three sterile neutrinos are lighter than D-meson.
We present a class of models with a third generation seesaw mixing with new vector-like weak-doublet quarks. We analyze a low-energy phenomenology and present several strong dynamics, high-energy realizations of these models. In the Topcolor type scenario, named Top-Bottom Color, we obtain an effective, composite two Higgs doublet model where the third generation isospin splitting is introduced via tilting interactions related to the broken non-abelian gauge groups (i.e. without strong, triviality-sensitive U(1) groups). In addition, we discuss $t\bar{t}$ production at the Next Linear Collider…
On the basis of a seesaw-type mass matrix model $M_f\simeq m_L M_F^{-1} m_R$ for quarks and leptons $f$, analytical expressions of the masses and mixings of the fermions $f$ are investigated. Here, the matrices $m_L$ and $m_R$ are common to all $f$ (up- and down-; quarks and leptons), and the matrix $M_F$ characterizing the heavy fermion sector has the form [(unit matrix)+ (democratic-type matrix)]. An application to the quark sectors is discussed.
We show that, in the low-scale type-I seesaw model, renormalization group running of neutrino parameters may lead to significant modifications of the leptonic mixing angles in view of so-called seesaw threshold effects. Especially, we derive analytical formulas for radiative corrections to neutrino parameters in crossing the different seesaw thresholds, and show that there may exist enhancement factors efficiently boosting the renormalization group running of the leptonic mixing angles. We find that, as a result of the seesaw threshold corrections to the leptonic mixing angles, various flavor …
On the basis of a seesaw-type mass matrix model for quarks and leptons, $M_f \simeq m_L M_F^{-1} m_R$, where $m_L\propto m_R$ are universal for $f=u,d,ν$ and $e$ (up-quark-, down-quark-, neutrino- and charged lepton-sectors), and $M_F$ has a form [(unit matrix)+(democratic-type matrix)], neutrino masses and mixings are investigated. It is tried to understand a large $ν_μ$-$ν_τ$ mixing, i.e., $\sin^2 2θ_{23}\sim 1$, with $m_{ν1} \ll m_{ν2} \sim m_{ν3}$, which has been suggested by the atmospheric neutrino data.
We show that the large mixing between $ν_μ$ and $ν_τ$ observed by the SuperKamiokande collaboration is a quite natural prediction in a large class of seesaw models. This large mixing is basically due to the unparallel family structure suggested from the observed mass hierarchies in quark and lepton mass matrices. We show that the unparallel family structure is automatically realized in ``coset-space family unification'' model based on $E_7/SU(5) \times U(1)^3$. This model also suggests the small angle MSW solution to the solar neutrino problem.
We propose a simple but suggestive seesaw model with two phenomenological conjectures: three heavy (right-handed) Majorana neutrinos are degenerate in mass in the symmetry limit and three light Majorana neutrinos have the tri-bimaximal mixing pattern $V^{}_0$. We show that a small mass splitting between the first generation and the other two generations of heavy Majorana neutrinos is responsible for the deviation of the solar neutrino mixing angle $θ^{}_{12}$ from its initial value $35.3^\circ$ given by $V^{}_0$, and the slight breaking of the mass degeneracy between the second and third gener…
We propose a simplified version of the inverse seesaw model, in which only two pairs of the gauge-singlet neutrinos are introduced, to interpret the observed neutrino mass hierarchy and lepton flavor mixing at or below the TeV scale. This minimal inverse seesaw scenario (MISS) is technically natural and experimentally testable. In particular, we show that the effective parameters describing the non-unitary neutrino mixing matrix are strongly correlated in the MISS, and thus, their upper bounds can be constrained by current experimental data in a more restrictive way. The Jarlskog invariants of…
It is pointed out that if a neutrino mass matrix for right-handed neutrinos in seesaw mechanism has mu -tau symmetry and total lepton number L_{e}+L_{μ}+L_τ remains constant (not zero), exact tribimaximal neutrino mixing in this sector is produced. The same follows for the effective Majorana light neutrino mass matrix provided that Yukawa couplings (multiplied by the corresponding Higgs vacuum expectation values) in Dirac mass matrix satisfy some constraints which in general implies zero leptongenesis asymmetry. However this can be avoided when two of the heavy right-hand neutrinos [the third …
We have studied a leptogenesis scenario in the framework of the minimal seesaw model with tri/bi-maximal mixing. Usually, at least one of the elements in the Dirac mass matrix is fixed to be zero, for example, we denote it by $b_2=0$. We have pointed out that the absolute value of the CP asymmetry has several minimums and maximums with non-zero $b_2$. Thus one can expect that more rich phenomena, such as an enhanced leptogenesis, are hidden in the $b_2 \neq 0$ space.
We study renormalization group running effects on neutrino mixing patterns when a (type I) seesaw model is implemented by suitable flavour symmetries. We are particularly interested in mass-independent mixing patterns to which the widely studied tribimaximal mixing pattern belongs. In this class of flavour models, the running contribution from neutrino Yukawa coupling, which is generally dominant at energies above the seesaw threshold, can be absorbed by a small shift on neutrino mass eigenvalues leaving mixing angles unchanged. Consequently, in the whole running energy range, the change in mi…
We examine minimal seesaw mechanism in which the masses of light neutrinos are described with tri/bi-maximal mixing in the basis where the charged-lepton Yukawa matrix and heavy Majorana neutrino mass matrix are diagonal. We search for all possible Dirac mass textures which contain at least one zero entry in $3 \times 2$ matrix and evaluate the corresponding lepton asymmetries. We present the baryon asymmetry in terms of a single low energy unknown, a Majorana CP phase to be clued from neutrinoless double beta decay.
We show that all nontrivial CP-violating phases can be determined in terms of three lepton flavor mixing angles and the ratio of $Δm^2_{\rm sun}$ to $Δm^2_{\rm atm}$ in the minimal seesaw model in which the Frampton-Glashow-Yanagida (FGY) ansatz is incorporated. This important point allows us to make very specific predictions for the cosmological baryon number asymmetry and CP violation in neutrino oscillations. A measurement of the smallest neutrino mixing angle will sensitively test the FGY ansatz, in particular in the case that three light neutrinos have a normal mass hierarchy.
The inverse seesaw mechanism with three pairs of gauge-singlet neutrinos offers a natural interpretation of the tiny masses of three active neutrinos at the TeV scale. We combine this picture with the newly-proposed Friedberg-Lee (FL) symmetry in order to understand the observed pattern of neutrino mixing. We show that the FL symmetry requires only two pairs of the gauge-singlet neutrinos to be massive, implying that one active neutrino must be massless. We propose a phenomenological ansatz with broken FL symmetry and exact μ-τsymmetry in the gauge-singlet neutrino sector and obtain the tri-bi…
We propose two Type-II seesaw scenarios for the neutrino mass matrix in the left-right symmetric model, in which the Higgs triplet Yukawa coupling matrix takes the appealing Friedberg-Lee texture. We show that the nearly tri-bimaximal neutrino mixing pattern, which is especially favored by current neutrino oscillation data, can be obtained from both scenarios. We also show that the cosmological baryon number asymmetry can naturally be interpreted in these two scenarios via the flavor-independent leptogenesis mechanism.
Discrete symmetries being preferred to explain the neutrino phenomenology, we chose the simplest $S_3$ group and explore the implication of its modular form on neutrino masses and mixing. Non-trivial transformations of Yukawa couplings under this symmetry, make the model phenomenologically interesting by reducing the requirement of multiple scalar fields. This symmetry imposes a specific flavor structure to the neutrino mass matrix within the framework of less frequented type III seesaw mechanism and helps to explore the neutrino mixing consistent with the current observation. Apart, we also e…
We suggest a low-scale model based on $A_4\times Z_4 \times Z_2$ symmetry and a global lepton number $U(1)_L$ symmetry capable of generating the current neutrino data. The neutrino mass smallness is reproduced by the linear seesaw mechanism. The model can explain the current observed pattern of lepton mixing in which the reactor and atmospheric angles get the best-fit values, and the solar angle and Dirac phase lie within $3σ$ limits. The obtained values of the sum of neutrino mass and the effective neutrino mass are below the present experimental limits.
We propose a predictive inert 2 Higgs doublet model, where the Standard Model (SM) symmetry is extended by $S_{3}\otimes Z_{2}\otimes Z_{12}$ and the field content is enlarged by extra scalar fields, charged exotic fermions and two heavy right-handed Majorana neutrinos. The charged exotic fermions generate a nontrivial quark mixing and provide one-loop-level masses for the first- and second-generation charged fermions. The masses of the light active neutrinos are generated from a one loop-level radiative seesaw mechanism. Our model successfully explains the observed SM fermion mass and mixing …
If the mixing angles in each of the seesaw sectors are all small, and the neutrino masses are hierarchical, we study the conditions for large neutrino mixing using triangular matrices. In particular, the implication of the neutrino oscillation data for the mass hierarchy in the heavy Majorana sector is examined, and the heavy Majorana scales are shown to depend sensitively on the solar mixing angle.
Radiative corrections to neutrino mixing and CP violation are analyzed in the minimal seesaw model with two heavy right-handed neutrinos. We find that textures of the effective Majorana neutrino mass matrix are essentially stable against renormalization effects. Taking account of the Frampton-Glashow-Yanagida ansatz for the Dirac neutrino Yukawa coupling matrix, we calculate the running effects of light neutrino masses, lepton flavor mixing angles and CP-violating phases for both $m_1 =0$ (normal mass hierarchy) and $m_3 =0$ (inverted mass hierarchy) cases in the standard model and in its mini…
Neutrino masses and mixings are investigated on the basis of a universal seesaw mass matrix model, in which quark (except for top) and charged lepton mass matrices M_f and neutrino mass matrix M_νare given by M_f \simeq m_L M_F^{-1} m_R and M_ν\simeq m_L M_F^{-1} m_L^T (F=N), respectively. For a simple model which can successfully describe quark masses and mixings, we find that the observed neutrino data (except for the solar neutrino data) are favor to the intermediate mass scales O(m_R) = 10^{11} GeV and O(M_F)= 10^{13} GeV together with O(m_L)= 10^2 GeV. In spite of the largesse of O(m_R), …
In the context of a minimal extension of the Standard Model with three extra heavy right-handed neutrinos, we propose a model for neutrino masses and mixing based on the hipothesis of a complete alignment of the lepton mass matrices in flavour space. Considering a uniform quasi-democratic structure for these matrices, we show that, in the presence of a highly hierarchical right-handed neutrino mass spectrum, the effective neutrino mass matrix, obtained through the seesaw mechanism, can reproduce all the solutions of the solar neutrino problem.
An explicit model of neutrino texture is presented, where in the 6 times 6 mass matrix the Majorana lefthanded component is zero, the Majorana righthanded component - diagonal with equal entries, and the Dirac component gets a hierarchical structure, deformed by nearly bimaximal mixing. If the Majorana righthanded component dominates over the Dirac component, the familiar seesaw mechanism leads effectively to the popular, nearly bimaximal oscillations of active neutrinos. The Dirac component, before its deformation, may be similar in shape to the charged-lepton and quark mass matrices. Then, p…
It is pointed out that in a seesaw quark mass matrix model which yields a singular enhancement of the top-quark mass, the right-handed fermion-mixing matrix U_R^u for the up-quark sector has a peculiar structure in contrast to the left-handed one U_L^u. As an example of the explicit structures of U_L^u and U_R^u, a case in which the heavy fermion mass matrix M_F is given by a form [(unit matrix)+(rank-one matrix)] is investigated. As a consequence, one finds observable signatures at projected high energy accelerators like the production of a fourth heavy quark family.
A simple extension of the standard model is to introduce $n$ heavy right-handed Majorana neutrinos and preserve its $\rm SU(2)^{}_L \times U(1)^{}_Y$ gauge symmetry. Diagonalizing the $(3+n) \times (3+n)$ neutrino mass matrix, we obtain an exact analytical expression for the effective mass matrix of $ν^{}_e$, $ν^{}_μ$ and $ν^{}_τ$. It turns out that the $3\times 3$ neutrino mixing matrix $V$, which appears in the leptonic charged-current weak interactions, must not be exactly unitary. The unitarity violation of $V$ is negligibly tiny, however, if the canonical seesaw mechanism works to reprodu…
The present work is inspired by the application of $A_4$ modular symmetry in the linear seesaw framework, which restricts the use of multiple flavon fields. Linear seesaw is realized with six heavy $SU(2)_L$ singlet fermion superfields and a weighton in a supersymmetric framework. The non-trivial transformation of Yukawa couplings under the $A_4$ modular symmetry helps to explore the neutrino phenomenology with a specific flavor structure of the mass matrix. We discuss the phenomena of neutrino mixing and show that the obtained mixing angles and CP violating phase in this framework are compati…
For two flavors, the seesaw matrix can be identified with a two dimensional representation of the Lorentz group. This analogy facilitates the computation of physical neutrino parameters, while giving an intuitive understanding of the results. It is found that the induced mixing angle exhibits resonance behavior. For maximal mixing, we derive a precise relation among the right-handed mixing angle, the Majorana mass ratio, and their phase.
We provide an $A_4$ based flavor symmetric scenario to accommodate the inverse seesaw mechanism for explaining light neutrino masses and mixing. We find that the lepton mixing, in particular the tri-bimaximal mixing pattern and its deviation through nonzero $θ_{13}$, is originated solely from the flavor structure of the lepton number violating contribution of the neutral lepton mass matrix. Here we discuss in detail how a nonzero value of $θ_{13}$ is correlated with the other parameters in the framework and its impact on the Dirac CP phase $δ$. We also analyze the non-unitarity effects on lept…
Within low-scale seesaw mechanisms, such as the inverse and linear seesaw, one expects (i) potentially large lepton flavor violation (LFV) and (ii) sizeable non-standard neutrino interactions (NSI). We consider the interplay between the magnitude of non-unitarity effects in the lepton mixing matrix, and the constraints that follow from LFV searches in the laboratory. We find that NSI parameters can be sizeable, up to percent level in some cases, while LFV rates, such as that for μ-> e γ, lie within current limits, including the recent one set by the MEG collaboration. As a result the upcoming …
Assuming the existence of an eV or KeV scale sterile neutrino, we develop a 3+1 neutrino mass model using $A_4\times Z_4 \times Z_2$ symmetry group. Three Higgs $H, H^{\prime}$ and $H^{\prime\prime}$ are considered to give a desired neutrino mass matrix which generates non-zero $θ_{13}$. The model can give neutrino mixing parameters that are well within the experimental 3$σ$ bounds. We also calculate the $4\times 4$ active-sterile neutrino mixing matrix, and it is found to be consistent with experimental bounds.
The top quark mass and the flavor mixing are studied in the context of a Seesaw model of Quark Masses based on the gauge group $SU(2)_L \times SU(2)_R \times U(1)$. Six isosinglet quarks are introduced to give rise to the mass hierarchy of ordinary quarks. In this scheme, we reexamine a mechanism for the generation of the top quark mass. It is shown that, in order to prevent the Seesaw mechanism to act for the top quark, the mass parameter of its isosinglet partner must be much smaller than the breaking scale of $SU(2)_R$. As a result the fourth lightest up quark must have a mass of the order …
We examine the renormalization group evolution (RGE) for different mixing scenarios in the presence of seesaw threshold effects from high energy scale (GUT) to the low electroweak (EW) scale in the Standard Model (SM) and Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). We consider four mixing scenarios namely Tri-Bimaximal Mixing, Bimaximal Mixing, Hexagonal Mixing and Golden Ratio Mixing which come from different flavor symmetries at the GUT scale. We find that the Majorana phases play an important role in the RGE running of these mixing patterns along with the seesaw threshold corrections. We …
In contrast to the original type I seesaw mechanism that requires right-handed Majorana neutrinos at energies much higher than the electroweak scale, the so-called low scale seesaw models allow lighter masses for the additional neutrinos. Here we propose an alternative low scale type I seesaw model, where neither linear nor inverse seesaw mechanisms take place, but the spontaneous breaking of a discrete symmetry at an energy scale much lower than the model cutoff is responsible for the smallness of the light active neutrino masses. In this scenario, the model is defined with minimal particle c…
