There are some radiative origins for the neutrino masses in the conventional left-right symmetric models with the usual bi-doublet and triplet Higgs scalars. These radiative contributions could dominate over the tree-level seesaw and could explain the observed neutrino masses.
The radiative seesaw mechanism proposed recently is minimally extended to include supersymmetry in a specific model. Relevant related issues such as leptogenesis and dark matter are discussed.
We investigate an alternative seesaw mechanism for neutrino mass generation. Neutrino mass is generated at loop level but the basic concept of usual seesaw mechanism is kept. One simple model is constructed to show how this mechanism is realized. The applications of this seesaw mechanism at weak scale to cosmology and neutrino physics are discussed.
We propose two possibilities to explain an excess of electron/positron flux around 1.4 TeV recently reported by Dark Matter Explore (DAMPE) in the framework of radiative seesaw models where one of them provides a fermionic dark matter candidate, and the other one provides a bosonic dark matter candidate. We also show unique features of both models regarding neutrino mass structure.
A minimal extension of the Standard Model is proposed, where the observed left-handed neutrinos obtain naturally small Majorana masses from a one-loop radiative seesaw mechanism. This model has two candidates (one bosonic and one fermionic) for the dark matter of the Universe. It has a very simple structure and should be verifiable in forthcoming experiments at the Large Hadron Collider.
In the framework of seesaw models with only two heavy Majorana neutrinos, nonzero leptonic asymmetries can be radiatively generated when exact heavy neutrino mass degeneracy ($M_1=M_2=M$) is imposed at a scale $Λ_D > M$. For a specific case, we show that an acceptable value for the baryon asymmetry of the Universe can be obtained considering thermal leptogenesis.
We propose a supersymmetric radiative seesaw model with modular $A_4$ symmetry. Thanks to contributions of supersymmetric partners to one-loop diagrams generating neutrino masses, we successfully fit neutrino data and obtain predictions in case of normal hierarchy in a minimal framework that would not be realized in a non-supersymmetric model. We show a several predictive figures and demonstrate a best fit benchmark point through $χ^2$
Two important features of TeV-scale radiative seesaw models, in which tiny neutrino masses are generated at the quantum level, are an extended scalar (Higgs) sector and the Majorana nature. We study phenomenological aspects of these models at the ILC. It is found that the Majorana nature of the models can be tested directly via the electron-positron and electron-electron collision experiments.
We study a radiative inverse seesaw model with local B-L symmetry, in which we extend the neutrino mass structure that is generated through a kind of inverse seesaw framework to the more generic one than our previous work. We focus on a real part of bosonic particle as a dark matter and investigate the features in O(1-80) GeV mass range, reported by the experiments such as CoGeNT and XENON (2012).
We discuss the linkage between dark matter mass in the one-loop radiative seesaw model and the effective neutrino mass for the neutrino less double beta decay. This linkage, which has been already numerically suggested, is confirmed to be a reasonable relationship by deriving analytical expressions for two zero flavor neutrino mass texture.
We study a minimal one-loop radiative mechanism for generating small Majorana neutrino masses in inverse seesaw extensions of the Standard Model with two singlet fermions per family. The new feature of this radiative mechanism is that the one-loop induced left-handed neutrino mass matrix is directly proportional to the Majorana mass matrix of the right-handed neutrinos. This is a very economical scenario without necessitating the existence of non-standard scalar or gauge fields.
We study the radiative symmetry breaking of B-L in supersymmetric models with inverse seesaw mechanism. We show that for a wide region of parameter space the radiative corrections can drive the squared mass of the extra Higgs boson from positive initial values at the GUT scale to negative values at the TeV scale, leading to the spontaneous breaking of the B-L symmetry. We also emphasize that in this class of models, unlike the supersymmetric B-L models with type I seesaw, the right-handed sneutrino cannot get a non-zero vacuum expectation value. Therefore, B-L can be radiatively broken while R…
We propose a one-loop induced radiative seesaw model applying a modular $S_3$ flavor symmetry, which is known as the minimal non-Abelian discrete group. In this scenario, dark matter (DM) candidate is correlated with neutrinos and lepton flavor violations (LFVs). We show several predictions of mixings and phases satisfying LFVs, observed relic density, and neutrino oscillation data.
In the canonical up-quark seesaw, the ratios of light neutrino masses are more easily predicted than the masses themselves. Under explicitly enumerated neccesary but minimal assumptions, these ratios are obtained, including radiative corrections. The predictions remain uncertain only by the top quark mass and triviality mass limit, and the power law of the seesaw. The tau neutrino is specially affected by the non-linear effect of the heavy top quark mass. The derived ratios have application to solar, atmospheric, and cosmological neutrinos and laboratory neutrino oscillation searches. The sees…
If the canonical seesaw mechanism alone is responsible for neutrino mass, i.e. m_nu = -m_D^2/m_N, it can neither be proved nor disproved at the TeV energy scale. A new verifiable mechanism of neutrino mass is proposed, using the "inverse" seesaw, with new physics at the TeV scale, such that m_nu = m_D^2 epsilon_L/m_N^2, where epsilon_L is a two-loop effect. Dark-matter candidates also appear naturally.
The singlet majoron model of seesaw neutrino mass is appended by one dark Majorana fermion singlet $χ$ with $L=2$ and one dark complex scalar singlet $ζ$ with $L=1$. This simple setup allows $χ$ to obtain a small radiative mass anchored by the same heavy right-handed neutrinos, whereas the one-loop decay of the standard-model Higgs boson to $χχ+ \barχ \barχ$ provides the freeze-in mechanism for $χ$ to be the light dark matter of the Universe.
We reexamine relic abundance of a singlet fermion as a CDM candidate, which contributes to the neutrino mass generation through radiative seesaw mechanism. We search solutions for Yukawa couplings and the mass spectrum of relevant fields to explain neutrino oscillation data. For such solutions, we show that an abundance of a lightest singlet fermion can be consistent with WMAP data without conflicting with both bounds of $μ\to eγ$ and $τ\to μγ$. This reconciliation does not need any modification of the original radiative seesaw model other than by specifying flavor structure of Yukawa coupling…
We study one-loop induced radiative seesaw model applying a modular $A_4$ flavor symmetry, in which the neutrino mass matrix is achieved by two different Yukawa couplings one of which also contributes to positive value of muon anomalous magnetic moment as well as lepton flavor violations. Thanks to the specific mass matrix via $A_4$ symmetry and its modular weight, we find several predictions for lepton sector through our numerical analysis.
In left-right symmetric seesaw models an eight-fold degeneracy among the right-handed neutrino mass matrices is known to exist. We use stability and viability of leptogenesis as criteria in order to discriminate among the degenerate solutions and to partially lift the eight-fold degeneracy.
We propose a radiative seesaw model based on a modular $A_4$ symmetry, which has good predictability in the lepton sector. We execute a numerical analysis to search for parameters that satisfy the experimental constraints such as those from neutrino oscillation data and lepton flavor violations. Then, we present several predictions in our model that originate from the modular symmetry at a fixed point as well as fundamental region of $τ$.
A collider probe of the radiative seesaw models are considered. Two key ingredients of these models, the extended Higgs sector and the source of the Majorana mass, although these details differ model by model, would be studied at the TeV-scale electron-positron and electron-electron colliders. The searches and mass determinations in the inert doublet model, which is the extended Higgs sector of the Ma model, are summarized as an example.
In a class of left-right symmetric models for linear seesaw, a neutrinoless double beta decay induced by the left- and right-handed charged currents together will only depend on the breaking details of left-right and electroweak symmetries. This neutrinoless double beta decay can reach the experimental sensitivities if the right-handed charged gauge boson is below the 100 TeV scale.
We discuss a radiative type-I seesaw. In these models, the radiative generation of Dirac neutrino masses allows to explain the smallness of the observed neutrino mass scale for rather light right-handed neutrino masses in a type-I seesaw. We first present the general idea in a model independent way. This allows us to estimate the typical scale of right-handed neutrino mass as a function of the number of loops. We then present two example models, one at one-loop and another one at two-loop, in which we discuss neutrino masses and lepton flavour violating constraints in more detail. For the two-…
The radiative see-saw mechanism of Witten generates the right-handed neutrino masses in SO(10) with the spinorial 16_H Higgs field. We study here analytically the 2nd and 3rd generations for the minimal Yukawa structure containing 10_H and 120_H Higgs representations. In the approximation of small 2nd generation masses and gauge loop domination we find the following results : (1) b-tau unification, (2) natural coexistence between large theta_l and small theta_q, (3) degenerate neutrinos.
The smallness of neutrino mass, the strong CP problem, and the existence of dark matter are explained in an economical way. The neutrino mass is generated by the colored version of a radiative seesaw mechanism by using color adjoint mediators. The Majorana mass term of the adjoint fermion, which carries lepton number U(1)_L, is induced by its spontaneous breaking, resulting in a Majoron which doubles as the QCD (quantum chromodynamics) axion, thereby solving the strong CP problem. The breaking of U(1)_L sets simultaneously the seesaw scale for neutrino mass and the Peccei-Quinn breaking scale.…
We study a two loop induced radiative neutrino model with global $U(1)$ symmetry at 1 GeV scale, in which we explain the X-ray line at 7.1 keV of dark matter candidate reported by XMN-Newton X-ray observatory using data of various galaxy clusters and Andromeda galaxy. We also discuss Higgs sector, lepton flavor violation processes, and a physical Goldstone boson.
The scotogenic model of neutrino mass is modified so that the dark Majorana fermion singlet $S$ which makes the neutrino massive is itself generated in one loop. This is accomplished by having $Z_6$ lepton symmetry softly broken to $Z_2$ in the scalar sector by a unique quadratic term. It is shown that $S$ is a viable freeze-in dark-matter candidate through Higgs decay.
We extend the Type I and Type III seesaw mechanisms to generate neutrino masses within the left-right symmetric theories where parity is spontaneously broken. We construct a next to minimal left-right symmetric model where neutrino masses are generated through a variant $double$ seesaw mechanism. In our model at least one of the triplet fermions and the right handed neutrinos are at TeV scale and others are heavy. The phenomenological aspects and testability of the TeV scale particles at collider experiments are discussed. The decays of heavy fermions leading to leptogenesis are pointed out.
We propose a new type of radiative neutrino model with global hidden $U(1)$ symmetry, in which neutrino masses are induced at the four loop level. Then we discuss the muon anomalous magnetic moment to solve the discrepancy between observation and the standard model prediction, and estimate the relic density of a fermion or boson DM candidate in the model. We also discuss the diphoton resonance $R$ by considering a process $pp \to R \to γγ$ as a possible signal of our model.
We extend the Type I seesaw and suggest a $new$ seesaw mechanism to generate neutrino masses within the left-right symmetric theories where parity is spontaneously broken. We construct a next to minimal left-right symmetric model where neutrino masses are determined irrespective of the B-L breaking scale and call it the $new$ seesaw mechanism. In this scenario B-L scale can be very low. This makes B-L gauge boson and the quasi-Dirac $heavy$ leptons very light. These TeV scale particles could have large impact on lepton flavor and CP violating processes. We also shed light on the phenomenologic…
The simplest type III seesaw model as originally proposed introduces one lepton triplet. It thus contains four active neutrinos, two massive and two massless at tree level. We determine the radiative masses that the latter receive first at two loops. The masses are generally so tiny that they are definitely excluded by the oscillation data, if the heavy leptons are not very heavy, say, within the reach of LHC. To accommodate the data on masses, the seesaw scale must be as large as the scale of grand unification. This indicates that the most economical type III model would entail no new physics…
We propose a radiative seesaw model with an inert triplet scalar field in which Majorana neutrino masses are generated at the two loop level. There are fermionic or bosonic dark matter candidates in the model. We find that each candidate can satisfy the WMAP data when its mass is taken to be around the half of the mass of the standard model like Higgs boson. We also discuss phenomenology of the inert triplet scalar bosons, especially focusing on the doubly-charged scalar bosons at Large Hadron Collider in parameter regions constrained by the electroweak precision data and WMAP data. We study h…
There exist tree-level generalizations of the Type-I and Type-III seesaw mechanisms that realize neutrino mass via low-energy effective operators with d>5. However, these generalizations also give radiative masses that can dominate the seesaw masses in regions of parameter space --- i.e. they are not purely seesaw models, nor are they purely radiative models, but instead they are something in between. A recent work detailed the remaining minimal models of this type. Here we study the remaining model with d=9 and investigate the collider phenomenology of the exotic quadruplet fermions it predic…
We revive Witten's mechanism for the radiative seesaw induced neutrino masses in SO(10) grand unified theory. We propose its extension to charged fermion masses as a possible cure for wrong tree level mass relations. We offer two simple realizations that can produce a realistic fermionic spectrum. The first one requires two 10 dimensional Higgses in the Yukawa sector and utilizes radiative effects for charged fermion masses. The second one trades one 10 for a 120 dimensional Higgs and leads to the SO(10) theory with less parameters in the Yukawa sector. The mechanism works only if supersymmetr…
In this paper we work in the framework of a radiative seesaw model with triplet fermion $Σ$. Due to the $Z_2$ discrete flavor symmetry, the lightest neutral component of $Σ$ is stable and thus can be a dark matter candidate. Its mass can be solely determined by the dark matter relic abundance, which is bout 2.594 TeV. The model also predict a dark matter-nucleus scattering cross section that would be accessible with future dark matter direct detection searches. We further investigate constraints on the parameter space of the model from the lepton-flavor-violating processes and neutrino transit…
We study the possibility that the baryon asymmetry of the universe is generated in a minimal seesaw scenario where two right-handed Majorana neutrinos with degenerate masses are added to the standard model particle content. In the usual framework of thermal leptogenesis, a nonzero $CP$ asymmetry can be obtained through the mass splitting induced by the running of the heavy Majorana neutrino masses from their degeneracy scale down to the seesaw scale. Although, in the light of the present neutrino oscillation data, the produced baryon asymmetry turns out to be smaller than the experimental valu…
We propose a predictive inert 2 Higgs doublet model, where the Standard Model (SM) symmetry is extended by $S_{3}\otimes Z_{2}\otimes Z_{12}$ and the field content is enlarged by extra scalar fields, charged exotic fermions and two heavy right-handed Majorana neutrinos. The charged exotic fermions generate a nontrivial quark mixing and provide one-loop-level masses for the first- and second-generation charged fermions. The masses of the light active neutrinos are generated from a one loop-level radiative seesaw mechanism. Our model successfully explains the observed SM fermion mass and mixing …
We consider the scenario in the radiative seesaw model where the dark matter particle is the lightest $Z_2$-odd fermion. We identify the regions of the parameter space of the model compatible with neutrino oscillation data, with the upper limits from rare charged lepton decays and with the observed dark matter abundance via thermal freeze-out, and we compute the dark matter scattering cross section with nuclei via the one-loop exchange of a photon, a $Z^0$-boson or a Higgs boson. We find that the predicted spin-independent cross section lies below the current LUX limit, although, for some choi…
We propose a new supersymmetric left right model with Higgs doublets carrying odd B-L charge, higgs bidoublet and heavy Higgs triplets with zero B-L charge and a set of sterile neutrinos which are singlet under the gauge group. We show that spontaneous parity violation can be achieved naturally in this model and the neutrino masses arise from the so called type III seesaw mechanism. We also discuss the possible phenomenology in the context of neutrino masses and dark matter.
We propose a left-right symmetric framework with universal seesaw mechanism for the generation of masses of the Standard Model quarks and leptons. Heavy vector-like singlet quarks and leptons are required for generation of Standard Model-like quark and lepton masses through seesaw mechanism. A softly broken $Z_2$ symmetry distinguishes the lepton sector and the quark sector of the model. This leads to the presence of some lepton-specific interactions that can produce unique collider signatures which can be explored at the current Large Hadron Collider run and also future colliders.
A general feature of TeV-scale radiative seesaw models, in which tiny neutrino masses are generated via loop corrections, is an extended scalar (Higgs) sector. Another feature is the Majorana nature; e.g., introducing right-handed neutrinos with TeV-scale Majorana masses under the discrete symmetry, or otherwise introducing some lepton number violating interactions in the scalar sector. We study phenomenological aspects of these models at collider experiments. We find that, while properties of the extended Higgs sector of these models can be explored to some extent, the Majorana nature of the …
The Higgs inflation scenario is an approach to realize the inflation, in which the Higgs boson plays a role of the inflaton without introducing a new particle. We investigate a Higgs inflation scenario in the so-called radiative seesaw model proposed by E. Ma. We find that a part of parameter regions where additional scalar fields can play a role of an inflaton is compatible with the current LHC results, the current data from neutrino experiments and those of the dark matter abundance as well as the direct search. We show that we can partially test this model by measuring masses of scalar boso…
A radiative seesaw model with an inert doublet dark matter is a promising candidate which could explain the existence of neutrino masses, dark matter and baryon number asymmetry of the Universe, simultaneously. In addition to these issues, inflation should also be explained since the recent CMB observations suggest the existence of the inflationary era at the early stage of the Universe. Thus, we extend it by a complex scalar field with a specific potential. This scaler could also be related to the neutrino mass generation at a TeV scale. We show that the inflation favored by the CMB observati…
We consider the one-loop radiative corrections to the light-neutrino mass matrix and their consequences for the predicted branching ratios of the five lepton-flavour-violating decays $\ell_1^- \to \ell_2^- \ell_3^+ \ell_3^-$ in a two-Higgs-doublet model furnished with the type-I seesaw mechanism and soft lepton-flavour violation. We find that the radiative corrections are very significant; they may alter the predicted branching ratios by several orders of magnitude and, in particular, they may help explain why $\mbox{BR}(μ^- \to e^- e^+ e^-)$ is strongly suppressed relative to the branching ra…
To generate the lepton and quark masses in the left-right symmetric models, we can consider a universal seesaw scenario by integrating out heavy fermion singlets which have the Yukawa couplings with the fermion and Higgs doublets. The universal seesaw scenario can also accommodate the leptogenesis with Majorana or Dirac neutrinos. We show the fermion singlets can obtain their heavy masses from certain global symmetry breaking, which is driven by one complex scalar singlet or two. The global symmetry can be identified to the Peccei-Quinn symmetry since it is mediated to the standard model quark…
Radiative corrections to neutrino mixing and CP violation are analyzed in the minimal seesaw model with two heavy right-handed neutrinos. We find that textures of the effective Majorana neutrino mass matrix are essentially stable against renormalization effects. Taking account of the Frampton-Glashow-Yanagida ansatz for the Dirac neutrino Yukawa coupling matrix, we calculate the running effects of light neutrino masses, lepton flavor mixing angles and CP-violating phases for both $m_1 =0$ (normal mass hierarchy) and $m_3 =0$ (inverted mass hierarchy) cases in the standard model and in its mini…
Parametrization of the neutrino mass matrix in terms of well-known measured quantities is an attractive way to obtain a phenomenologically viable form. We propose a model of neutrino mass matrix based on type-II seesaw mechanism adhering the concept of badly broken symmetry. Two of the mixing angles are coming out as $θ_{23}\sim46.08^{\circ}$, $θ_{13}\sim8.69^{\circ}$. However, to accommodate the other oscillation parameters, we further add an extra doublet and the neutrino masses are generated through the Zee mechanism at the one loop level, and the modified model can admit all the extant dat…
We explore an $A_4$-symmetric flavor based left-right symmetric model with linear seesaw mechanism and study the associated neutrino phenomenology. The framework offers the advantage of studying neutrino mass, non-unitarity effects in lepton sector, lepton flavour violation and CP violation. The fermion content of the model includes usual quarks, leptons along with additional sterile fermion per generation while the scalar content includes Higgs doublets and scalar bidoublet. We study analytically as well as numerically the correlation between different model parameters and their dependence on…
We perform a detailed analysis of the one-loop corrections to the light neutrino mass matrix within low scale type I seesaw extensions of the Standard Model and their implications in experimental searches for neutrinoless double beta decay. We show that a sizable contribution to the effective Majorana neutrino mass from the exchange of heavy Majorana neutrinos is always possible, provided one requires a fine-tuned cancellation between the tree-level and one-loop contribution to the light neutrino masses. We quantify the level of fine-tuning as a function of the seesaw parameters and introduce …
We study leptogenesis in supersymmetric SO(10) models with a left-right symmetric seesaw mechanism, including flavour effects and the contribution of the next-to-lightest right-handed neutrino. Assuming M_D = M_u and hierarchical light neutrino masses, we find that successful leptogenesis is possible for 4 out of the 8 right-handed neutrino mass spectra that are compatible with the observed neutrino data. An accurate description of charged fermion masses appears to be an important ingredient in the analysis.
We discuss a class of left-right symmetric theories with a universal seesaw mechanism for fermion masses and mixing and the implications for neutrinoless double beta ($0νββ$) decay where neutrino masses are governed by natural type-II seesaw dominance. The scalar sector consists of left- and right-handed Higgs doublets and triplets, while the conventional Higgs bidoublet is absent in this scenario. We use the Higgs doublets to implement the left-right and the electroweak symmetry breaking. On the other hand, the Higgs triplets with induced vacuum expectation values can give Majorana masses to …
The radiative seesaw model with an inert doublet has been shown to be attractive from a viewpoint of both neutrino masses and cold dark matter. However, if we apply this model to the explanation of the positron excess in the cosmic ray observed by PAMELA, a huge boost factor is required although it can be automatically explained that no anti-proton excess has been observed there. We consider an extension of the model to enhance the thermally averaged annihilation cross section without changing the features of the model favored by both the neutrino oscillation and the relic abundance of dark ma…
We suggest a new left-right symmetric model implementing a low-scale seesaw mechanism in which quantum consistency requires three families of fermions. The symmetry breaking route to the Standard Model determines the profile of the "next" expected new physics, characterized either by the simplest left-right gauge symmetry or by the 3-3-1 scenario. The resulting $Z^\prime$ gauge bosons can be probed at the LHC and provide a production portal for the right-handed neutrinos. On the other hand, its flavor changing interactions would affect the K, D and B neutral meson systems.
We present a study of resonant leptogenesis in a radiative seesaw model. We consider the case where two quasi-degenerate right-handed neutrinos realize resonant leptogenesis, and the CP violation necessary to achieve leptogenesis occurs through the CP phases present in the neutrino mixing matrix. A numerical analysis is performed by taking the best-fit values from the current global data for three neutrino mixing angles and two mass-squared differences. We have shown how the predicted value of baryon asymmetry depends on the Dirac and Majorana CP phases. With the particular choice for the mass…
By extending the Standard Model with singlet-doublet fermions and triplet scalars, all odd under a new $Z_2$ symmetry, we introduce a radiative seesaw model that can simultaneously account for dark matter, explain the existence of neutrino masses and allow for gauge coupling unification. We explore the viable parameter space of the model after imposing collider, Higgs mass, dark matter, neutrino mass and lepton flavour violation constraints. We find that dark matter in this model is fermionic for masses below about 1 TeV and scalar above and observe a high degree of complementarity between dir…
