We explicitly construct, in terms of Gelfand--Tsetlin tableaux, a new family of simple positive energy representations for the simple affine vertex algebra V_k(sl_{n+1}) in the minimal nilpotent orbit of sl_{n+1}. These representations are quotients of induced modules over the affine Kac-Moody algebra of sl_n+1 and include in particular all admissible simple highest weight modules and all simple modules induced from sl_2. Any such simple module in the minimal nilpotent orbit has bounded weight multiplicities.
We construct affine pavings of Springer-type fibers over the enhanced nilpotent cone. This resolves a question of Achar-Henderson and implies the existence of perverse parity sheaves on the enhanced nilpotent cone.
In this paper we study the derived category of sheaves on the affine Grassmannian of a complex reductive group G, contructible with respect to the stratification by G(C[[x]])-orbits. Following ideas of Ginzburg and Arkhipov-Bezrukavnikov-Ginzburg, we describe this category (and a mixed version) in terms of coherent sheaves on the nilpotent cone of its Langlands dual reductive group. We also show, in the mixed case, that restriction to the nilpotent cone of a Levi subgroup corresponds to hyperbolic localization on affine Grassmannians.
Consider the maximal nilpotent subalgebra $n_+(A_1^{(1)})$ of the simplest affine algebra $A_1^{(1)}$ which is one of the $\mathbb{N}$-graded Lie algebras with minimal number of generators. We show truncated versions of this algebra in positive characteristic admit the structure of a family of restricted Lie algebras. We compute the ordinary and restricted 1- and 2-cohomology spaces with trivial coefficients by giving bases. With these we explicitly describe the restricted 1-dimensional central extensions.
We give a simple description of the closure of the nilpotent orbits appearing as associated varieties of admissible affine vertex algebras in terms of primitive ideals.
In this paper, we study the affine Springer fiber $\mathcal{F} l_N$ in type $A$ for rectangular type semisimple nil-element $N$ and calculate the relative position between irreducible components. In particular, we use the affine matrix ball construction to show the relative position map is compatible with the Kazhdan-Lusztig cell structure, generalizing the work of Steinberg and van Leeuwen.
Using the method of commutative algebra, we show that the set $\mathfrak{R}$ of nilpotent elements of a vertex algebra $V$ forms an ideal, and $V/\mathfrak{R}$ has no nonzero nilpotent elements.
The flag variety of a complex reductive linear algebraic group G is by definition the quotient G/B by a Borel subgroup. It can be regarded as the set of Borel subalgebras of Lie(G). Given a nilpotent element e in Lie(G), one calls Springer fiber the subvariety formed by the Borel subalgebras which contain e. Springer fibers have in general a complicated structure (not irreducible, singular). Nevertheless, a theorem by C. De Concini, G. Lusztig, and C. Procesi asserts that, when G is classical, a Springer fiber can always be paved by finitely many subvarieties isomorphic to affine spaces. In th…
We relate the geometry of Schubert varieties in twisted affine Grassmannian and the nilpotent varieties in symmetric spaces. This extends some results of Achar-Henderson in the twisted setting. We also get some applications to the geometry of the order 2 nilpotent varieties in certain classical symmetric spaces.
In math.RT/0201073 we constructed an equivalence between the derived category of equivariant coherent sheaves on the cotangent bundle to the flag variety of a simple algebraic group and a (quotient of) the category of constructible sheaves on the affine flag variety of the Langlands dual group. Below we prove certain properties of this equivalence; provide a similar ``Langlands dual'' description for the category of equivariant coherent sheaves on the nilpotent cone; and deduce some conjectures by Lusztig and Ostrik.
Braverman and Finkelberg have recently proposed a conjectural analogue of the geometric Satake isomorphism for untwisted affine Kac-Moody groups. As part of their model, they conjecture that (at dominant weights) Lusztig's q-analog of weight multiplicity is equal to the Poincare series of the principal nilpotent filtration of the weight space, as occurs in the finite-dimensional case. We show that the conjectured equality holds for all affine Kac-Moody algebras if the principal nilpotent filtration is replaced by the principal Heisenberg filtration. The main body of the proof is a Lie algebra …
In the context of affine complex Kac-Moody algebras, we define the meaning of nilpotent orbits under the adjoint action of the maximal Kac-Moody group. We also give a parameterization of nilpotent orbits of $\mathfrak{sl}_n^{(1)}(\mathbb C)$.
n this paper we study ad-nilpotent ideals of a complex simple Lie algebra $\ccg$ and their connections with affine Weyl groups and nilpotent orbits. We define a left equivalence relation for ad-nilpotent ideals based on their normalizer and generators, and prove that the equivalence relation is compatible with the left cell structure of affine Weyl group of $\ccg$ and Lusztig's star operator for type $\tilde A_{n-1}$.
In this paper we study ad-nilpotent ideals of a complex simple Lie algebra $\ccg$ and their connections with affine Weyl groups and nilpotent orbits. We consider ad-nilpotent ideals of a Borel subalgebra of a simple Lie algebra. The goal of this paper is two-fold. First, we study the ad-nilpotent ideals lying inside the Heisenberg ideal. The Heisenberg ideal is the nilpotent radical of the centralizer of the highest root vector. Second, we study the ideals having the property that the corresponding domain of the Shi arrangement consists of a single alcove. Such ideals (and the corresponding elements of the affine Weyl group) are called minimax.
We prove that the local intersection cohomology of nilpotent orbit closures of cyclic quivers is trivial when the two orbits involved correspond to partitions with at most two rows. This gives a geometric proof of a result of Graham and Lehrer, which states that standard modules of the affine Hecke algebra of $GL_d$ corresponding to nilpotents with at most two Jordan blocks are multiplicity-free.
For a twisted affine Lie superalgebra with nonzero odd part, we study {tight irreducible weight modules} with bounded weight multiplicities and show that if the action of nonzero real vectors of each affine component of the zero part is neither completely injective nor completely locally nilpotent, then these modules are parabolically induced.
We use affine W-algebras to quantize Mishchenko-Fomenko subalgebras for centralizers of nilpotent elements in simple Lie algebras under certain assumptions that are satisfied for all cases in type A and all minimal nilpotent cases outside type $E_8$.
We extend the results of Cellini-Papi on the characterizations of nilpotent and abelian ideals of a Borel subalgebra to parabolic subalgebras of a simple Lie algebra. These characterizations are given in terms of elements of the affine Weyl group and faces of alcoves. In the case of a parabolic subalgebra of a classical Lie algebra, we give formulas for the number of these ideals.
We give some examples of non-complete invariant affine connections on nilpotent and filiform Lie groups. This permits to describe non-nilpotent faithful representations on the model of filiform n-dimensional Lie algebras and, in particular, on the 3 dimensional Heisenberg algebra.
Let $F$ be a $p$-adic field and let $G$ be a connected reductive group defined over $F$. We assume $p$ is big. Denote $\mathfrak{g}$ the Lie algebra of $G$. To each vertex $s$ of the reduced Bruhat-Tits' building of $G$, we associate as usual a reductive Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}_{s}$ defined over the residual field ${\mathbb F}_{q}$. We normalize suitably a Fourier-transform $f\mapsto \hat{f}$ on $C_{c}^{\infty}(\mathfrak{g}(F))$. We study the subspace of functions $f\in C_{c}^{\infty}(\mathfrak{g}(F))$ such that the orbital integrals of $f$ and of $\hat{f}$ are $0$ for each element of $ \mat…
We find all values of $k\in \mathbb C$, for which the embedding of the maximal affine vertex algebra in a simple minimal W-algebra $W_k(\mathfrak g,θ)$ is conformal, where $\mathfrak g$ is a basic simple Lie superalgebra and $-θ$ its minimal root. In particular, it turns out that if $W_k(\mathfrak g,θ)$ does not collapse to its affine part, then the possible values of these $k$ are either $-\frac{2}{3} h^\vee$ or $-\frac{h^\vee-1}{2}$, where $h^\vee$ is the dual Coxeter number of $\mathfrak g$ for the normalization $(θ,θ)=2$. As an application of our results, we present a realization of simple…
Given a nilpotent orbit O of a real, reductive algebraic group, a necessary condition is given for the existence of a tempered representation pi such that O occurs in the wave front cycle of pi. The coefficients of the wave front cycle of a tempered representation are expressed in terms of volumes of precompact submanifolds of an affine space.
We produce in an explicit form free generators of the affine W-algebra of type A associated with a nilpotent matrix whose Jordan blocks are of the same size. This includes the principal nilpotent case and we thus recover the quantum Miura transformation of Fateev and Lukyanov.
In this note, we point out an error in the proof of Theorem 4.7 of [P. Achar and A.~Henderson, `Orbit closures in the enhanced nilpotent cone', Adv. Math. 219 (2008), 27-62], a statement about the existence of affine pavings for fibres of a certain resolution of singularities of an enhanced nilpotent orbit closure. We also give independent proofs of later results that depend on that statement, so all other results of that paper remain valid.
Let $\gg$ be a simple, finite-dimensional complex Lie algebra, and let $V^k(\gg)$ denote the universal affine vertex algebra associated to $\gg$ at level $k$. The Cartan involution on $\gg$ lifts to an involution on $V^k(\gg)$, and we denote by $V^k(\gg)^{\mathbb{Z}_2}$ the orbifold, or fixed-point subalgebra, under this involution. Our main result is an explicit minimal strong finite generating set for $V^k(\gg)^{\mathbb{Z}_2}$ for generic values of $k$. In the case $\gg = \gs\gl_2$, we also determine the set of nongeneric values of $k$, where this set does not work.
We consider affine buildings with refined chamber structure. For each vertex in the refined chamber structure we construct a contraction, based at the vertex, that is used to prove exactness of Schneider-Stuhler resolutions of arbitrary depth.
We prove that all classical affine W-algebras W(g,f), where g is a simple Lie algebra and f is its non-zero nilpotent element, admit an integrable hierarchy of bi-Hamiltonian PDEs, except possibly for one nilpotent conjugacy class in G_2, one in F_4, and five in E_8.
Regular nilpotent Hessenberg varieties form a family of subvarieties of the flag variety arising in the study of quantum cohomology, geometric representation theory, and numerical analysis. In this paper we construct a paving by affines of regular nilpotent Hessenberg varieties for all classical types, generalizing results of de Concini-Lusztig-Procesi and Kostant. This paving is in fact the intersection of a particular Bruhat decomposition with the Hessenberg variety. The nonempty cells of the paving and their dimensions are identified by combinatorial conditions on roots. We use the paving t…
We prove that a conical symplectic variety with maximal weight 1 is isomorphic to one of the following: (i) an affine space with the standard symplectic form (ii) a nilpotent orbit closure of a complex semisimple Lie algebra with the Kirillov-Kostant form.
We prove an explicit formula for the Poincaré polynomials of parabolic character varieties of Riemann surfaces with semisimple local monodromies, which was conjectured by Hausel, Letellier and Rodriguez-Villegas. Using an approach of Mozgovoy and Schiffmann the problem is reduced to counting pairs of a parabolic vector bundles and a nilpotent endomorphism of prescribed generic type. The generating function counting these pairs is shown to be a product of Macdonald polynomials and the function counting pairs without parabolic structure. The modified Macdonald polynomial $\tilde H_λ[X;q,t]$ is i…
The intersection cohomologies of closures of nilpotent orbits of linear (respectively, cyclic) quivers are known to be described by Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials for the symmetric group (respectively, the affine symmetric group). We explain how to simplify this description using a combinatorial cancellation procedure, and derive some consequences for representation theory.
We provide an explicit combinatorial description of highest weights of simple highest weight modules over the simple affine vertex algebra of type A of admissible level k. For admissible simple highest weight modules corresponding to the principal, subregular and maximal parabolic nilpotent orbits we give a realization using the Gelfand-Tsetlin theory, which also allows us to obtain a realization of certain classes of simple admissible sl(2)-induced modules in these orbits. In particular, simple admissible sl(2)-induced modules are fully classified for the principal nilpotent orbit.
We study the vertex algebras associated with modular invariant representations of affine Kac-Moody algebras at fractional levels, whose simple highest weight modules are classified by Joseph's characteristic varieties. We show that an irreducible highest weight representation of a non-twisted affine Kac-Moody algebra at an admissible level k is a module over the associated simple affine vertex algebra if and only if it is an admissible representation whose integral root system is isomorphic to that of the vertex algebra itself. This in particular proves the conjecture of Adamovic and Milas on …
We develop some basic properties such as $p$-centers of affine vertex algebras and free field vertex algebras in prime characteristic. We show that the Wakimoto-Feigin-Frenkel homomorphism preserves the $p$-centers by providing explicit formulas. This allows us to formulate the notion of baby Wakimoto modules, which in particular provides an interpretation in the context of modular vertex algebras for Mathieu's irreducible character formula of modular affine Lie algebras at the critical level.
For an admissible affine vertex algebra $V_k(\mathfrak{g})$ of type $A$, we describe a new family of relaxed highest weight representations of $V_k(\mathfrak{g})$. They are simple quotients of representations of the affine Kac-Moody algebra $\widehat{\mathfrak{g}}$ induced from the following $\mathfrak{g}$-modules: 1) generic Gelfand-Tsetlin modules in the principal nilpotent orbit, in particular all such modules induced from $\mathfrak{sl}_2$; 2) all Gelfand-Tsetlin modules in the principal nilpotent orbit which are induced from $\mathfrak{sl}_3$; 3) all simple Gelfand-Tsetlin modules over $\…
Let Uq(g) be the quantum affine superalgebra associated with an affine Kac-Moody superalgebra g which belongs to the three series osp(1|2n)^(1),sl(1|2n)^(2) and osp(2|2n)^(2). We develop vertex operator constructions for the level 1 irreducible integrable highest weight representations and classify the finite dimensional irreducible representations of Uq(g). This makes essential use of the Drinfeld realisation for Uq(g), and quantum correspondences between affine Kac-Moody superalgebras, developed in earlier papers.
We construct 2-representations of quantum affine algebras from 2-representations of quantum Heisenberg algebras. The main tool in this construction are categorical vertex operators, which are certain complexes in a Heisenberg 2-representation that recover vertex operators after passing to the Grothendieck group. As an application we categorify the Frenkel-Kac-Segal homogeneous realization of the basic representation of (simply laced) quantum affine algebras. This gives rise to categorical actions of quantum affine (and toroidal) algebras on derived categories of coherent sheaves on Hilbert sch…
This paper is about the orbifold theory of affine and parafermion vertex operator algebras. It is known that the parafermion vertex operator algebra $K(sl_2,k)$ associated to the integrable highest weight modules for the affine Kac-Moody algebra $A_1^{(1)}$ is the building block of the general parafermion vertex operator $K(\mathfrak{g},k)$ for any finite dimensional simple Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$ and any positive integer $k$. We first classify the irreducible modules of $\mathbb{Z}_{2}$-orbifold of the simple affine vertex operator algebra of type $A_1^{(1)}$ and determine their fusion rul…
Let $L(-{1/2}(l+1),0)$ be the simple vertex operator algebra associated to an affine Lie algebra of type $A_{l}^{(1)}$ with the lowest admissible half-integer level $-{1/2}(l+1)$, for even l. We study the category of weak modules for that vertex operator algebra which are in category $\cal{O}$ as modules for the associated affine Lie algebra. We classify irreducible objects in that category and prove semisimplicity of that category.
We prove the rationality of all the minimal series principal W-algebras discovered by Frenkel, Kac and Wakimoto in 1992, thereby giving a new family of rational and C_2-cofinite vertex operator algebras. A key ingredient in our proof is the study of Zhu's algebra of simple W-algebras via the quantized Drinfeld-Sokolov reduction. We show that the functor of taking Zhu's algebra commutes with the reduction functor. Using this general fact we determine the maximal spectrums of the associated graded of Zhu's algebra of all the admissible affine vertex algebras as well.
In this paper we study a series of vertex operator algebras of integer level associated to the affine Lie algebra $A_{\ell}^{(1)}$. These vertex operator algebras are constructed by using the explicit construction of certain singular vectors in the universal affine vertex operator algebra $N(n-2,0)$ at the integer level. In the case $n=1$ or $l=2$, we explicitly determine Zhu's algebras and classify all irreducible modules in the category $\mathcal{O}$. In the case $l=2$, we show that the vertex operator algebra $N(n-2,0)$ contains two linearly independent singular vectors of the same conforma…
In this paper, we prove the categories of lower bounded twisted modules of positive integer levels for simple vertex operator algebras associated with affine Lie algebras and general automorphisms are semisimple, using the twisted generalization of Zhu's algebra for these vertex operator algebras, constructed in \cite{HY}. We also show that the category of lower bounded twisted modules for a general automorphism is equivalent to the category of lower bounded twisted modules for the corresponding diagram automorphism.
The minimal degeneration singularities in the affine Grassmannians of simple simply-laced algebraic groups are determined to be either Kleinian singularities of type A, or closures of minimal orbits in nilpotent cones. The singularities for non-simply-laced types are studied by intersection cohomology and equivariant Chow group methods.
We define an integral intertwining operator among modules for a vertex operator algebra to be an intertwining operator which respects integral forms in the modules, and we show that an intertwining operator is integral if it is integral when restricted to generators of the integral forms in the modules. We apply this result to classify integral intertwining operators which respect certain natural integral forms in modules for affine Lie algebra and lattice vertex operator algebras.
We consider the quantum vertex algebra associated with the trigonometric R-matrix in type A as defined by Etingof and Kazhdan. We show that its center is a commutative associative algebra and construct an algebraically independent family of topological generators of the center at the critical level.
We apply the construction of the universal lower-bounded generalized twisted modules by the author to construct universal lower-bounded and grading-restricted generalized twisted modules for affine vertex (operator) algebras. We prove that these universal twisted modules for affine vertex (operator) algebras are equivalent to suitable induced modules of the corresponding twisted affine Lie algebra or quotients of such induced modules by explicitly given submodules.
Let $\mathfrak{g}$ be an affine Kac-Moody algebra with symmetric Cartan datum, $\mathfrak{n^{+}}$ be the maximal nilpotent subalgebra of $\mathfrak{g}$. By the Hall algebra approach, we construct integral bases of the $\mathbb{Z}$-form of the enveloping algebra $U(\mathfrak{n^{+}})$. In particular, the representation theory of tame quivers is essentially used in this paper.
We study modularity of the characters of a vertex (super)algebra equipped with a family of conformal structures. Along the way we introduce the notions of rationality and cofiniteness relative to such a family. We apply the results to determine modular transformations of trace functions on admissible modules over affine Kac-Moody algebras and, via BRST reduction, trace functions on minimal series representations of principal affine W-algebras.
We revisit the construction of integral forms for vertex (operator) algebras $V_L$ based on even lattices $L$ using generators instead of bases, and we construct integral forms for $V_L$-modules. We construct integral forms for vertex (operator) algebras based on highest-weight modules for affine Lie algebras and we exhibit natural generating sets. For vertex operator algebras in general, we give conditions showing when an integral form contains the standard conformal vector generating the Virasoro algebra. Finally, we study integral forms in contragredients of modules for vertex algebras.
