Given a commutative noetherian non-positive DG-ring with bounded cohomology which has a dualizing DG-module, we study its regular, Gorenstein and Cohen-Macaulay loci. We give a sufficient condition for the regular locus to be open, and show that the Gorenstein locus is always open. However, both of these loci are often empty: we show that no matter how nice $\mathrm{H}^0(A)$ is, there are examples where the Gorenstein locus of $A$ is empty. We then show that the Cohen-Macaulay locus of a commutative noetherian DG-ring with bounded cohomology which has a dualizing DG-module always contains a dense open set. Our results imply that under mild hypothesis, eventually coconnective locally noetherian derived schemes are generically Cohen-Macaulay, but that even in very nice cases, they need not be generically Gorenstein.
Two left noetherian rings $R$ and $S$ are said to be {\it singularly equivalent} if their singularity categories are equivalent as triangulated categories. The aim of this paper is to give a necessary condition for two commutative noetherian rings to be singularly equivalent. To do this, we develop the support theory for triangulated categories without tensor structure.
In this paper, we consider the openness of the P-locus of a finitely generated module over a commutative noetherian ring in the case where P is each of the properties FID, Gor, CM, MCM, (S_n), and (T_n). One of the main results asserts that FID-loci over an acceptable ring are open. We give a module version of the Nagata criterion, and prove that it holds for all of the aforementioned properties.
We deduce results on the dimension and connectedness of degeneracy loci of maps of finite modules $f:M\to N$ over a local noetherian ring $(A,{\mathfrak m})$. We show for instance that the expected determinantal bounds on the dimension of the t-$th$ degeneracy locus of $f$ hold if $f\in {\mathfrak m} Hom (M,N)$, and that this degeneracy locus is connected in the expected dimension provided $\hat A$ is a domain.
A splinter is a notion of singularity that has seen numerous recent applications, especially in connection with the direct summand theorem, the mixed characteristic minimal model program, Cohen-Macaulayness of absolute integral closures and cohomology vanishing theorems. Nevertheless, many basic questions about these singularities remain elusive. One outstanding problem is whether the splinter property spreads from a point to an open neighborhood of a noetherian scheme. Our paper addresses this problem in prime characteristic, where we show that a locally noetherian scheme that has finite Frob…
The Cohen-Macaulay locus of any finite module over a noetherian local ring $A$ is studied and it is shown that it is a Zariski-open subset of $\Spec A$ in certain cases. In this connection, the rings whose formal fibres over certain prime ideals are Cohen-Macaulay are studied.
Let $P$ be a finite poset, $K$ a field, and $O(P)$ (resp. $C(P)$) the order (resp. chain) polytope of $P$. We study the non-Gorenstein locus of $E_K[O(P)]$ (resp. $E_K[C(P)]$), the Ehrhart ring of $O(P)$ (resp. $C(P)$) over $K$, which are each normal toric rings associated $P$. In particular, we show that the dimension of non-Gorenstein loci of $E_K[O(P)]$ and $E_K[C(P)]$ are the same. Further, we show that $E_K[C(P)]$ is nearly Gorenstein if and only if $P$ is the disjoint union of pure posets $P_1, \ldots, P_s$ with $|\mathrm{rank} P_i-\mathrm{rank} P_j|\leq 1$ for any $i$ and $j$.
Let $K$ be a non-empty set of ideals of the commutative ring $R$, closed under taking smaller ideals. A subset $X$ of the group ring $R[\mathbb{Z}^s]$ is called a $K$-set if the ideal generated by the coefficients of the elements of $X$ is in $K$. For $X$ not a $K$-set we investigate the set of those homomorphisms $p \colon \mathbb{Z}^s \to \mathbb{Z}^t$ such that $p_*(X)$ is a $K$-set. We also consider corresponding notions of rank of matrices and Betti numbers of chain complexes; this includes an analysis of the case of McCoy rank. Our setup also recovers results on jump loci obtained by Koh…
The purpose of this article is to prove that Gersten's conjecture for a commutative discrete valuation ring is true. Combining with the result of \cite{GL87}, we learn that Gersten's conjecture is true if the ring is a commutative regular local, smooth over a commutative discrete valuation ring.
We initiate the theory of graded commutative 2-rings, a categorification of graded commutative rings. The goal is to provide a systematic generalization of Paul Balmer's comparison maps between the spectrum of tensor-triangulated categories and the Zariski spectra of their central rings. By applying our constructions, we compute the spectrum of the derived category of perfect complexes over any graded commutative ring, and we associate to every scheme with an ample family of line bundles an embedding into the spectrum of an associated graded commutative 2-ring.
We establish basic results on subrings of finite commutative rings and closely related rings. Among other applications we calculate the number of maximal subrings of a finite commutative local ring.
In this paper, we introduce and study the $S$-weak global dimension $S$-w.gl.dim$(R)$ of a commutative ring $R$ for some multiplicative subset $S$ of $R$. Moreover, commutative rings with $S$-weak global dimension at most $1$ are studied. Finally, we investigated the $S$-weak global dimension of factor rings and polynomial rings.
Let $R$ be a commutative ring with identity and $T(R)$ its total quotient ring. We extend the notion of well-centered overring of an integral domain to an arbitrary commutative ring and we investigate the transfer of this property to different extensions of commutative rings in both integral and non-integral cases. Namely in pullbacks and trivial extensions. Our aim is to provide new classes of commutative rings satisfying this property and to shed light on some open questions raised by Heinzer and Roitman in \cite{HR}.
Let $A=\oplus_{i\in \nn}A_i$ be an excellent homogeneous Noetherian graded ring and let $M=\oplus_{n\in \zz}M_n$ be a finitely generated graded $A$-module. We consider $M$ as a module over $A_0$ and show that the $(S_k)$-loci of $M$ are open in $\Spec(A_0)$. In particular, the Cohen-Macaulay locus $U^0_{CM}=\{\p\in \Spec(A_0) \mid M_\p {is Cohen-Macaulay}\}$ is an open subset of $\Spec(A_0)$. We also show that the $(S_k)$-loci on the homogeneous parts $M_n$ of $M$ are eventually stable. As an application we obtain that for a finitely generated Cohen-Macaulay module $M$ over an excellent ring $…
A famous result due to I. M. Isaacs states that if a commutative ring $R$ has the property that every prime ideal is principal, then every ideal of $R$ is principal. This motivates ring theorists to study commutative rings for which every ideal is a direct sum of cyclically presented modules. In this paper, we study commutative rings whose ideals are direct sum of cyclically presented modules.
In this study, we introduce the concept of "uniformly 2-absorbing primary ideals" of commutative rings, which imposes a certain boundedness condition on the usual notion of 2-absorbing primary ideals of commutative rings. Then we investigate some properties of uniformly 2-absorbing primary ideals of commutative rings with examples. Also, we investigate a specific kind of uniformly 2-absorbing primary ideals by the name of "special 2-absorbing primary ideals".
Let $R$ be a commutative Noetherian ring and $M$ a finitely generated $R$-module. Under various hypotheses, it is proved that the center of $\mbox{End}_R(M)$ coincides with the endomorphism ring of the trace ideal of $M$. These results are exploited to establish results for balanced and rigid modules, and to settle certain cases of a conjecture of Huneke and Wiegand.
We use the concept of 2-absorbing ideal introduced by Badawi to study those commutative rings in which every proper ideal is a product of 2-absorbing ideals (we call them TAF-rings). Any TAF-ring has dimension at most one and the local TAF-domains are the atomic pseudo-valuation domains.
Let $R$ be a commutative ring and let $I$ be an ideal of $R$. In this paper, we introduce the cozero-divisor graph $\acuteΓ_I(R)$ of $R$ and obtain some related results.
In this work, the set of quasi-primary ideals of a commutative ring with identity is equipped with a topology and is called quasi-primary spectrum. Some topological properties of this space are examined. Further, a sheaf of rings on the quasi-primary spectrum is constructed and it is shown that this sheaf is the direct image sheaf with respect to the inclusion map from the prime spectrum of a ring to the quasi-primary spectrum of the same ring.
The strong global dimension of a ring is the supremum of the length of perfect complexes that are indecomposable in the derived category. In this note we characterize the noetherian commutative rings that have finite strong global dimension. We also give a similar characterization for arbitrary noetherian schemes.
Let $R$ be a commutative ring with identity and $S$ a multiplicative subset of $R$. First, we introduce and study the $S$-projective dimensions and $S$-injective dimensions of $R$-modules, and then explore the $S$-global dimension $S$-gl.dim$(R)$ of a commutative ring $R$ which is defined to be the supremum of $S$-projective dimensions of all $R$-modules. Finally, we investigated the $S$-global dimension of factor rings and polynomial rings.
This paper deals with the graded commutative rings in which every homogeneous prime ideal is contained in a unique homogeneous maximal ideal called Gelfand graded ring. The purpose is to establish some topological and algebraic characterizations of these rings, one of which is the algebraic analogue of the Urysohn's lemma. Finally we look at a special class of those graded rings called pm$^+$ graded rings which can be viewed as graded ring with a Gelfand strong property.
We count the number of submodules of an arbitrary module over a countable noetherian commutative ring. We give, along the way, a structural description of meager modules, which are defined as those that do not have the square of a simple module as subquotient. We deduce in particular a characterization of uniserial modules over commutative noetherian rings.
It is proven that each commutative arithmetical ring $R$ has a finitistic weak dimension $\leq 2$. More precisely, this dimension is 0 if $R$ is locally IF, 1 if $R$ is locally semicoherent and not IF, and 2 in the other cases.
Much work has been done on generalized factorization techniques in integral domains, namely $τ$-factorization. There has also been substantial progress made in investigating factorization in commutative rings with zero-divisors. This paper seeks to synthesize work done in these two areas and extend the notion of $τ$-factorization to commutative rings that need not be domains. In addition, we look into particular types of $τ$ relations, which are interesting when there are zero-divisors present. We then proceed to classify commutative rings that satisfy the finite factorization properties given…
We determine the metric dimension of the annihilating-ideal graph of a local finite commutative principal ring and a finite commutative principal ring with two maximal ideals. We also find the bounds for the metric dimension of the annihilating-ideal graph of an arbitrary finite commutative principal ring.
Let $A$ be a commutative augmented ring and $I$ be its augmentation ideal. This paper shows that the sequence $\{I^n/I^{n+1}\}$ becomes stationary up to isomorphism. The result yields stability in the associated graded ring of $A$ along $I$.
We show that the cosupport of a commutative noetherian ring is precisely the set of primes appearing in a minimal pure-injective resolution of the ring. As an application of this, we prove that every countable commutative noetherian ring has full cosupport. We also settle the comparison of cosupport and support of finitely generated modules over any commutative noetherian ring of finite Krull dimension. Finally, we give an example showing that the cosupport of a finitely generated module need not be a closed subset of $\operatorname{Spec}(R)$, providing a negative answer to a question of Sathe…
We consider the class of all commutative reduced rings for which there exists a finite subset T of A such that all projections on quotients by prime ideals of A are surjective when restricted to T. A complete structure theorem is given for this class of rings, and it is studied its relation with other finiteness conditions on the quotients of a ring over its prime ideals.
Let $R$ be a commutative chain ring. We use a variation of Gröbner bases to study the lattice of ideals of $R[x]$. Let $I$ be a proper ideal of $R[x]$. We are interested in the following two questions: When is $R[x]/I$ Frobenius? When is $R[x]/I$ Frobenius and local? We develop algorithms for answering both questions. When the nilpotency of $\text{rad}\,R$ is small, the algorithms provide explicit answers to the questions.
In commutative ring theory, there is a theorem of Cohen which states that if in a commutative ring all prime ideals are finitely generated then every ideal is finitely generated. However, it is known that having only maximal ideals finitely generated doesn't imply all ideals be finitely generated. In his article we ask the question that what happens if we assume all non-maximal ideals are finitely generated, and we answer the question by showing that indeed then all maximal ideals are also finitely generated i.e. the ring becomes Noetherian.
Let $G$ be a group with identity $e$. Let $R$ be a $G$-graded commutative ring and $M$ a graded $R$-module. In this paper, we introduce the concept of graded classical and graded strongly classical 2-absorbing second submodules of graded modules over a graded commutative rings. A number of results concerning these classes of graded submodules and their homogeneous components are given.
We study the transfer of (co)silting objects in derived categories of module categories via the extension functors induced by a morphism of commutative rings. It is proved that the extension functors preserve (co)silting objects of (co)finite type. In many cases the bounded silting property descends along faithfully flat ring extensions. In particular, the notion of bounded silting complex is Zariski local.
All rings are commutative with $1\neq0$. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the concept of weakly $n$-absorbing ideals generalizing weakly 2-absorbing ideals. We prove that over a $u$-ring $R$ the Anderson-Badawi's conjectures about $n$-absorbing ideals and the Badawi-Yousefian's question about weakly 2-absorbing ideals hold.
In this paper we prove that if $R$ is a commutative, reduced, local ring, then $R$ is Hopfian if and only if the ring $R[x]$ is Hopfian. This answers a question of Varadarajan, in the case when $R$ is a reduced local ring. We provide examples of non-Noetherian Hopfian commutative domains by proving that the finite dimensional domains are Hopfian. Also, we derive some general results related to Hopfian rings.
Let R be a commutative Noetherian ring. Recently, Dibaei and Sadeghi have studied the reduced grade of a horizontally linked R-module M of finite GC-dimension, where C is a semidualizing R-module. In this paper, we highly refine their results. In particular, our main result removes the assumptions that M is holizontally linked and M has finite GC -dimension.
In this article we extend the notion of expansivity from topological dynamics to automorphisms of commutative rings with identity. We show that a ring admits a 0-expansive automorphism if and only if it is a finite product of local rings. Generalizing a well known result of compact metric spaces, we prove that if a ring admits a positively expansive automorphism then it admits finitely many maximal ideals. We prove its converse for principal ideal domains. We also consider the topological expansivity induced, in the spectrum of the ring with the Zariski topology, by an automorphism and some co…
Assume that $R$ is a commutative ring with nonzero identity. In this paper, we introduce and investigate zero-annihilator graph of $R$ denoted by $\mathtt{ZA}(R)$. It is the graph whose vertex set is the set of all nonzero nonunit elements of $R$ and two distinct vertices $x$ and $y$ are adjacent whenever ${\rm Ann}_R(x)\cap {\rm Ann}_R(y)=\{0\}$.
Examples are given to show that the support of a complex of modules over a commutative noetherian ring may not be read off the minimal semi-injective resolution of the complex. The same examples also show that a localization of a semi-injective complex need not be semi-injective.
The ring of integer-valued polynomials on an arbitrary integral domain is well-studied. In this paper we initiate and provide motivation for the study of integer-valued polynomials on commutative rings and modules. Several examples are computed, including the integer-valued polynomials over the ring $R[T_1,\ldots, T_n]/(T_1(T_1-r_1), \ldots, T_n(T_n-r_n))$ for any commutative ring $R$ and any elements $r_1, \ldots, r_n$ of $R$, as well as the integer-valued polynomials over the Nagata idealization $R(+)M$ of $M$ over $R$, where $M$ is an $R$-module such that every non-zerodivisor on $M$ is a n…
In this study, we present the generalization of the concept of $r$-ideals in commutative rings with nonzero identity. Let $R$ be a commutative ring with $0\neq1$ and $L(R)$ be the lattice of all ideals of $R$. Suppose that $ϕ:L(R)\rightarrow L(R)\cup\left\{\emptyset\right\}$ is a function. A proper ideal $I$ of $R$ is called a $ϕ-r$-ideal of $R$ if whenever $ab\in I$ and $Ann(a)=(0)$ imply that $b\in I$ for each $a,b\in R.$ In addition to giving many properties of $ϕ-r$-ideal, we also examine the concept of $ϕ-r$-ideal in trivial ring extension and use them to characterize total quotient rings…
Foxby defined the (Krull) dimension of a complex of modules over a commutative Noetherian ring in terms of the dimension of its homology modules. In this note it is proved that the dimension of a bounded complex of free modules of finite rank can be computed directly from the matrices representing the differentials of the complex.
In this paper we consider the class $\mathcal{P}_1(R)$ of modules of projective dimension at most one over a commutative ring $R$ and we investigate when $\mathcal{P}_1(R)$ is a covering class. More precisely, we investigate Enochs' Conjecture for this class, that is the question of whether $\mathcal{P}_1(R)$ is covering necessarily implies that $\mathcal{P}_1(R)$ is closed under direct limits. We answer the question affirmatively in the case of a commutative semihereditary ring $R$. This gives an example of a cotorsion pair $(\mathcal{P}_1(R), \mathcal{P}_1(R)^\perp)$ which is not necessarily…
Let $R$ be a commutative ring and $M$ a non-zero $R$-module. We introduce the class of \emph{pseudo strongly hollow submodules} (\emph{PS-hollow submodules}, for short) of $M$. Inspired by the theory of modules with \emph{secondary representations}, we investigate modules which can be written as \emph{finite} sums of PS-hollow submodules. In particular, we provide existence and uniqueness theorems for the existence of \emph{minimal} PS-hollow strongly representations of modules over Artinian rings.
Given a significative class $F$ of commutative rings, we study the precise conditions under which a commutative ring $R$ has an $F$-envelope. A full answer is obtained when $F$ is the class of fields, semisimple commutative rings or integral domains. When $F$ is the class of Noetherian rings, we give a full answer when the Krull dimension of $R$ is zero and when the envelope is required to be epimorphic. The general problem is reduced to identifying the class of non-Noetherian rings having a monomorphic Noetherian envelope, which we conjecture is the empty class.
The paper has been withdrawn, since there is a mistake in Proposition 5.2. The result on the telescope conjecture for semihereditary rings is correct, but the characterization of the smashing subcategories of the derived category of commutative rings is not complete.
