We consider an anomaly-free $\mathrm{U}(1)$ extension of the Standard Model with three right-handed neutrinos (RHNs) and two complex scalars, wherein the charge assignments preclude all tree-level mass terms for the neutrinos. Considering this setup, in turn, to be only a low-energy effective theory, we introduce higher-dimensional terms {\em a la} Froggatt-Nielsen to naturally generate tiny neutrino masses. One of the RHNs turns out to be very light, thereby constituting the main decay mode for the $Z'$ and hence relaxing the LHC dilepton resonance search constraints. This very RHN has a lifetime comparable to or bigger than the age of the Universe, and, hence, could account for a non-negligible fraction of the dark matter.
In this paper we investigate the phenomenology of the U(1) gauge symmetry for right-handed fermions, where three right-handed neutrinos are introduced for anomalies cancellation. Constraints on the new gauge boson $Z_{\mathbf{R}}$ arising from $Z-Z^\prime$ mixing as well as the upper bound of $Z^\prime$ production cross section in di-lepton channel at the LHC are presented. We further study the neutrino mass generation and the phenomenology of $Z_{\mathbf{R}}$-portal dark matter in this model. The lightest right-handed neutrino can be the cold dark matter candidate stabilized by a $Z_2$ flavor…
Zero temperature properties of an (axial-) vector meson extended linear sigma model are discussed, concerning on the possible different realizations of the axial anomaly term. The different anomaly terms are compared with each other on the basis of a chi^2 minimalization process. It is found that there is no essential difference among the different realizations. This means that any of them can be equally used from phenomenological point of view.
To investigate $Z'$ phenomenology model-independent, we combine chiral effective theory with anomaly cancellation conditions without any other model input. We focus on $Z'$ mixings with $γ-Z$ in both mass and kinetic parts and calculate contributions to oblique $S,T,U$. The three sets of anomaly-free fermion $U(1)'$ charges parameterize the $Z'$ interactions with fermions. The cancellation of the $[U(1)']^3$ anomaly and mixing gravitational-gauge anomaly determines the number of right-handed neutrinos. We also find a novel relation between the charge assignments and Stueckelberg coupling in te…
Further progress in hadron spectroscopy necessitates the phenomenological description of three particle reactions. We consider the isobar approximation, where the connected part of the $\mathbf{3}\to\mathbf{3}$ amplitude is first expressed as a sum over initial and final pairs, and then expanded into a truncated partial wave series. The resulting unitarity equation is automatically fulfilled by the $B$-matrix solution, which is an integral equation for the partial wave amplitudes, analogous to the $K$-matrix parameterization used to describe $\mathbf{2}\to\mathbf{2}$ amplitudes. We study the o…
We explore the phenomenology of a class of models with anomaly-mediated supersymmetry breaking. These models retain the successful flavor properties of the minimal scenario while avoiding the tachyons. The mass spectrum is predicted in terms of a few parameters. However various qualitatively different spectra are possible, often strongly different from the ones usually employed to explore capabilities of new accelerators. One stable feature is the limited spread of the spectrum, so that squarks and gluinos could be conceivably produced at TEVII. The lightest superpartner of standard particles …
Gauged $U(1)_{L_μ- L_τ}$ model has been advocated for a long time in light of muon $g-2$ anomaly, which is a more than $3σ$ discrepancy between the experimental measurement and the standard model prediction. We augment this model with three right-handed neutrinos $(N_e, N_μ, N_τ)$ and a vector-like singlet fermion $(χ)$ to explain simultaneously the non-zero neutrino mass and dark matter content of the Universe, while satisfying anomalous muon $g-2$ constraints. It is shown that in a large parameter space of this model we can explain positron excess, observed at PAMELA, Fermi-LAT and AMS-02, t…
In this thesis we examine three different models in the MSSM context, all of which have significant supergravity anomaly contributions to their soft masses. These models are the so-called Minimal, Hypercharged, and Gaugino Anomaly Mediated Supersymmetry Breaking models. We explore some of the string theoretical motivations for these models and proceed by understanding how they would appear at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). Our major results include calculating the LHC reach for each model's parameter space and prescribing a method for distinguishing the models after the collection of 100 fb^…
In this paper, we present several possible anomaly-free implementations of the Branco-Grimus-Lavoura (BGL) model with two Higgs doublets and one singlet scalar. The model also includes three generations of massive neutrinos that get their mass via a type-I seesaw mechanism. A particular anomaly-free realization, which we dub $ν$BGL-1 scenario, is subjected to an extensive phenomenological analysis, from the perspective of flavour physics and collider phenomenology.
In some string compactifications, for instance the recently proposed KKLT set-up, light moduli are stabilized by nonperturbative effects at supersymmetric AdS vacuum which is lifted to a dS vacuum by supersymmetry breaking uplifting potential. In such models, soft supersymmetry breaking terms are determined by a specific mixed modulus-anomaly mediation in which the two mediations typically give comparable contributions to soft parameters. Similar pattern of soft terms can arise also in brane models to stabilize the radion by nonperturbative effects. We examine some phenomenological consequence…
In minimal anomaly-mediated supersymmetry breaking models, tachyonic sleptons are avoided by introducing a common scalar mass similar to the one introduced in minimal supergravity. This may lead to non-minimal flavour-violating interactions, e.g., in the squark sector. In this paper, we analyze the viable anomaly-mediated supersymmetry breaking parameter space in the light of the latest limits on low-energy observables and LHC searches, complete our analytical calculations of flavour-violating supersymmetric particle production at hadron colliders with those related to gluino production, and s…
In the first part of this dissertation, we study two different aspects of string phenomenology. First we discuss the complementary signals of low mass superstrings at the proposed electron-positron facilities (ILC and CLIC), in e+e- and γ γ collisions. We examine all relevant four-particle amplitudes evaluated at the center of mass energies near the mass of lightest Regge excitations and extract the corresponding pole terms. Secondly, we consider string realizations of the Randall-Sundrum effective theory and explore the search for the lowest massive Regge excitation of the gluon and of the ex…
The $W$ boson mass recently reported by the CDF collaboration shows a deviation from the standard model prediction with an excess at $7σ$ level. We investigate two simple extensions of the standard model with an extra $U(1)$ dark sector. One is the $U(1)_x$ extension, where the $U(1)_x$ gauge field mixes with the standard model through gauge kinetic terms. The other is a general $U(1)_{\mathbf{A} Y+\mathbf{B} q}$ extension of the standard model. Fitting various experimental constraints we find the $U(1)_x$ extension with only kinetic mixing can enhance the $W$ boson mass for at most 10~MeV. Wh…
The role of the $U(1)_A$ anomaly in QCD phenomenology is reviewed, focusing on the relation between quark dynamics and gluon topology. Topics covered include a generalisation of the Witten-Veneziano formula for the mass of the $η'$, the determination of pseudoscalar meson decay constants, radiative pseudoscalar decays and the $U(1)_A$ Goldberger-Treiman relation. Sum rules are derived for the proton and photon structure functions $g_1^p$ and $g_1^\c$ measured in polarised deep-inelastic scattering. The first moment sum rule for $g_1^p$ (the `proton spin' problem) is confronted with new data fr…
The Inverse Seesaw scenario relates the smallness of the neutrino masses to a small $B-L$ breaking parameter. We investigate a possible dynamical generation of the Inverse Seesaw neutrino mass mechanism from the spontaneous breaking of a gauged $U(1)_{B-L}$. To obtain an anomaly free theory we need to introduce additional fermions which exhibit an interesting phenomenology. Additionally, we predict a $Z'$ boson associated to the broken $B-L$ which preferentially interacts with the dark sector formed by the extra fermions making it particularly elusive.
In this article we consider theta-expanded noncommutative gauge field theory, constructed at the first order in noncommutative parameter theta, as an effective, anomaly free theory, with one-loop renormalizable gauge sector. Related phenomenology with emphasis on the standard model forbidden decays, is discussed. Experimental possibilities of Z -> gamma gamma decay are analyzed and a firm bound to the scale of the noncommutativity parameter is set around few TeV's.
In this work, we study the long-standing experimental anomaly in muon $(g-2)$ and also recent anomalous excess in $K_L\to π^0+ν\barν$ at the J-PARC KOTO experiment with sgoldstino. After supersymmetry breaking, the interactions between quarks and sgoldstino ($s$) make the decays $K\to π+s$ sizable through loop diagrams, which affects the measurements of decays $K\to π+\mathrm{invisible}$. Furthermore, the couplings between photons and sgoldstino contribute to $Δa_μ$ as well as the bino-slepton contribution. With satisfying all known experimental constraints such as from NA62, E949, E137, Orsay…
Theories where a fermionic dark matter candidate interacts with the Standard Model through a vector mediator are often studied using minimal models, which are not necessarily anomaly-free. In fact, minimal anomaly-free simplified models are usually strongly constrained by either direct detection experiments or collider searches for dilepton resonances. In this paper, we study the phenomenology of models with a fermionic dark matter candidate that couples axially to a leptophobic vector mediator. Canceling anomalies in these models requires considerably enlarging their field content. For an exa…
The Inverse Seesaw naturally explains the smallness of neutrino masses via an approximate $B-L$ symmetry broken only by a correspondingly small parameter. In this work the possible dynamical generation of the Inverse Seesaw neutrino mass mechanism from the spontaneous breaking of a gauged $U(1)$ $B-L$ symmetry is investigated. Interestingly, the Inverse Seesaw pattern requires a chiral content such that anomaly cancellation predicts the existence of extra fermions belonging to a dark sector with large, non-trivial, charges under the $U(1)$ $B-L$. We investigate the phenomenology associated to …
The 331 model offers an explanation of flavor by anomaly cancellation between three families. It predicts three exotic quarks, $Q=D$, $S$, $T$, and five extra gauge bosons comprising an additional neutral $Z_2$ and four charged dileptonic gauge bosons $(Y^{--},Y^-)$, $(Y^{++},Y^+)$. Production of $Q\overline{Q}$, $QY$, $YY$ and $Z_2$ at the SSC is calculated, and signatures are discussed.
We examine the supersymmetry phenomenology of a novel scenario of supersymmetry (SUSY) breaking which we call Gaugino Anomaly Mediation, or inoAMSB. This is suggested by recent work on the phenomenology of flux compactified type IIB string theory. The essential features of this scenario are that the gaugino masses are of the anomaly-mediated SUSY breaking (AMSB) form, while scalar and trilinear soft SUSY breaking terms are highly suppressed. Renormalization group effects yield an allowable sparticle mass spectrum, while at the same time avoiding charged LSPs; the latter are common in models wi…
The Standard Model augmented by the presence of gauge-singlet right-handed neutrinos proves to be an ideal scenario for accommodating nonzero neutrino masses. Among the new parameters of this ``New Standard Model'' are right-handed neutrino Majorana masses M. Theoretical prejudice points to M much larger than the electroweak symmetry breaking scale, but it has recently been emphasized that all M values are technically natural and should be explored. Indeed, M around 1-10 eV can accommodate an elegant oscillation solution to the LSND anomaly, while other M values lead to several observable cons…
We examine supersymmetric models with mixed modulus-anomaly mediated SUSY breaking (MM-AMSB) soft terms which get comparable contributions to SUSY breaking from moduli-mediation and anomaly-mediation. The apparent (mirage) unification of soft SUSY breaking terms at Q=mu_mir not associated with any physical threshold is the hallmark of this scenario. The MM-AMSB structure of soft terms arises in models of string compactification with fluxes, where the addition of an anti-brane leads to an uplifting potential and a de Sitter universe, as first constructed by Kachru {\it et al.}. The phenomenolog…
I observe that, as the physics side of the OPERA-anomaly story is apparently unfolding, there can still be motivation for philosophy of science to analyze the six months of madness physicists spent chasing the dream of a new fundamental-physics revolution. I here mainly report data on studies of the OPERA anomaly that could be relevant for analyses from the perspective of phenomenology of philosophy of science. Most of what I report is an insider's perspective on the debate that evolved from the original announcement by the OPERA collaboration of evidence of superluminal neutrinos. I also sket…
We investigate the phenomenology of the Nearly Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (nMSSM) in the deflected anomaly mediation scenario. We also include the Fayet-Iliopoulos D-term of the standard model gauge group. In the nMSSM, the mu term is replaced by the vacuum expectation value of the gauge singlet; therefore, there is no difficulty in generating the B-term of the SUSY breaking scale. Although the messenger sector is introduced, direct couplings between nMSSM fields and messenger sector fields are forbidden by the discrete symmetry. Therefore, the phenomenology at the weak scale does n…
Potential hints for New Physics enhanced b -> sg dipole operators are reviewed. Implications for inclusive kaon spectra, and corrresponding search strategies are discussed. Remarkably, all B meson rare decay constraints can be evaded. Large CP asymmetries are expected if new contributions to the dipole operators contain non-trivial weak phases. A critical comparison of eta' production in the Standard Model and in models with enhanced b -> sg is presented. A Standard Model explanation of the large B -> eta' Xs rate measured by CLEO poses a challenge, evidently requiring novel non-perturbative o…
We consider collider signatures of the exceptional supersymmetric (SUSY) standard model (E6SSM). This E6 inspired SUSY model is based on the SM gauge group together with an extra U(1) gauge symmetry under which right--handed neutrinos have zero charge. To ensure anomaly cancellation and gauge coupling unification the low energy matter content of the E6SSM involve extra exotic matter beyond the MSSM. We discuss the collider signatures associated with the production of new particles predicted by the E6SSM and consider the implications of this model for dark matter and Higgs phenomenology. Since …
In this work we will extend the inert-doublet model (IDM) by adding a new $U(1)_{F}$ gauge symmetry to it, under which, a $Z_{2}$ even scalar ($ϕ_{2}$) and $Z_{2}$ odd right handed component of two exotic charged leptons $(F_{eR},\ F_{μR})$, are charged. We also add one $Z_{2}$ even real scalar ($ϕ_{1}$) and one complex scalar ($ϕ$), three neutral Majorana right handed fermions ($N_{1},\ N_{2},\ N_{3}$), two left handed components of the exotic charged leptons $(F_{eL},\ F_{μL})$ as well as $F_τ$ are all odd under the $Z_{2}$, all of which are not charged under the $U(1)_{F}$. With these new p…
The $R$-parity-violating Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (RPV-MSSM) can naturally accommodate massive neutrinos as required by the oscillation data. However, studying the phenomenology is complicated due to the large number of undetermined parameters involved. Thus, studies are usually restricted to specific submodels. In this work, we develop an approach that allows us to be less restrictive. Working in (almost) the completely general RPV-MSSM setting, we analyze the structure of the neutrino mass matrix, and identify -- for the case of two massive neutrinos -- only four minimal classes…
Motivated by the recently reported anomaly in W boson mass by the CDF collaboration with $7σ$ statistical significance, we consider a singlet-doublet (SD) Majorana fermion dark matter (DM) model where the required correction to W boson mass arises from radiative corrections induced by SD fermions. While a single generation of SD fermions, odd under an unbroken $Z_2$ symmetry, can not explain the W boson mass anomaly while being consistent with DM phenomenology, two generations of SD fermions can do so with the heavier generation playing the dominant role in W-mass correction and lighter genera…
We study the collider phenomenology of a neutral gauge boson $Z'$ arising in minimal but anomalous $\mathrm{U}(1)$ extensions of the Standard Model (SM). To retain gauge invariance of physical observables, we consider cancellation of gauge anomalies through the Green-Schwarz mechanism. We categorize a wide class of $\mathrm{U}(1)$ extensions in terms of the new $\mathrm{U}(1)$ charges of the left-handed quarks and leptons and the Higgs doublet. We derive constraints on some benchmark models using electroweak precision constraints and the latest 13 TeV LHC dilepton and dijet resonance search da…
We discuss a model with a dark sector, in which smallness of mass for charged leptons and neutrinos can naturally be explained by one-loop effects mediated by particles in the dark sector. These new particles, including dark matter candidates, also contribute to the anomalous magnetic dipole moment, denoted by $(g-2)$, for charged leptons. We show that our model can explain the muon $(g-2)$ anomaly and observed neutrino oscillations under the constraints from lepton flavor violating decays of charged leptons. We illustrate that the scenario with scalar dark matter is highly constrained by dire…
We analyze two minimal supersymmetric constrained models with low-energy vector-like matter preserving gauge coupling unification. In one we add to the MSSM spectrum a pair of 5-plets of SU(5), in the other a pair of 10-plets. We show that the muon g-2 anomaly can be explained in these models while retaining perturbativity up to the unification scale, satisfying electroweak and flavor precision tests and current LHC data. We examine also some related phenomenological features of the models, including Higgs mass, fine-tuning, dark matter and several LHC signatures. We stress that, at least for …
Dirac leptogenesis, in which neutrinos are purely Dirac and develop small but nonzero effective masses without the aid of the see-saw mechanism, provides an interesting alternative to the standard leptogenesis picture. Here we review the theory and phenomenology of Dirac leptogenesis and show that it is a viable theory capable of simultaneously satisfying all relevant bounds from cosmology, neutrino physics, and flavor violation. In addition, we also explore several potential extensions of the model, such as the possibility of right-handed sneutrino dark matter and the potential for relating t…
If a Z' gauge boson from a gauged L_mu - L_tau symmetry is very light, it is associated with a long-range leptonic force. In this case the particles in the Sun create via mixing of the Z' with the Standard Model Z a flavor-dependent potential for muon neutrinos in terrestrial long-baseline experiments. The potential changes sign for anti-neutrinos and hence can lead to apparent differences in neutrino and anti-neutrino oscillations without introducing CP or CPT violation. This could for instance explain the recently found discrepancy in the MINOS experiment. We obtain the associated parameters…
We calculate masses and decays of the (lightest) hybrid nonet with exotic quantum numbers $J^{PC}=1^{-+}$ and the nonet of their chiral partners with $J^{PC}=1^{+-}$ in the framework of the extended Linear Sigma Model (eLSM). As an input, we identify $π_{1}^{hyb}=π_{1}(1600)$ as a low-lying hybrid. We investigated interaction terms which fulfil chiral symmetry. For what concerns $π_{1}^{hyb},$ the most important decays are $π_{1}^{hyb}\rightarrow b_{1}π,$ $π_{1}(1600)\rightarrowρπη,$ $π_{1}^{hyb}% \rightarrowρπ,$ and $π_{1}^{hyb}\rightarrow KK^{\ast}(892).$ The decays $π_{1}^{hyb}\rightarrowηπ…
A phenomenological analysis of the three-family local gauge group $SU(3)_c\otimes SU(3)_L\otimes U(1)_X$ with right-handed neutrinos is carried out. Instead of using the minimal scalar sector able to break the symmetry in a proper way, we introduce an alternative set of four Higgs scalar triplets, which combined with an anomaly-free discrete symmetry, produces a quark mass spectrum without hierarchies in the Yukawa coupling contants. We also embed the structure into a simple gauge group and show some conditions to achieve a low energy gauge coupling unification, avoiding possible conflict with…
In this work, we have considered a gauged $U(1)_{\rm B-L}$ extension of the Standard Model (SM) with three right handed neutrinos for anomaly cancellation and two additional SM singlet complex scalars with non-trivial B-L charges. One of these is used to spontaneously break the $U(1)_{\rm B-L}$ gauge symmetry, leading to Majorana masses for the neutrinos through the standard Type I seesaw mechanism, while the other becomes the dark matter (DM) candidate in the model. We test the viability of the model to simultaneously explain the DM relic density observed in the CMB data as well as the Galact…
We study an extension of the gauge group SU(3)_c X SU(2)_L X U(1)_Y of the standard model to the symmetry group SU(3)_c X SU(4)_L X U(1)_X (3-4-1 for short). This extension provides an interesting attempt to answer the question of family replication in the sense that models for the electroweak interaction can be constructed so that anomaly cancellation is achieved by an interplay between generations, all of them under the condition that the number of families must be divisible by the number of colours of SU(3)_c. This method of anomaly cancellation requires a family of quarks transforming diff…
We propose a new scenario that solves the slepton negative mass squared problem of the minimal supersymmetric standard model with anomaly mediated supersymmetry breaking. The solution is achieved by including three trilinear R-parity violating operators in the superpotential. The soft supersymmetry breaking terms satisfy renormalisation group invariant relations in terms of supersymmetric couplings and the overall supersymmetry breaking mass scale. Flavour changing neutral currents can be naturally highly suppressed. A specific model predicts tan beta=4.2+/-1.0. Excluding sleptons, the supersy…
Adding right-handed neutrino singlets and/or fermion triplets to the particle content of the Standard Model allows for the implementation of the seesaw mechanism to give mass to neutrinos and, simultaneously, for the construction of anomaly-free gauge group extensions of the theory. We consider Abelian extensions based on an extra U(1)_X gauge symmetry, where X is an arbitrary linear combination of the baryon number B and the individual lepton numbers L_{e,mu,tau}. By requiring cancellation of gauge anomalies, we perform a detailed analysis in order to identify the charge assignments under the…
The supersymmetric flipped $SU(6)\times U(1)$ gauge symmetry can arise through compactification of the ten dimensional $E_8\times E_8$ superstring theory. We show how realistic phenomenology can emerge from this theory by supplementing it with the symmetry ${\cal R}\times {\cal U}(1)$, where ${\cal R}$ denotes a discrete `R'-symmetry. The well-known doublet-triplet splitting problem is resolved to `all orders' via the pseudo-Goldstone mechanism, and the GUT scale arises from an interplay of the Planck and supersymmetry breaking scales. The symmetry ${\cal R}\times {\cal U}(1)$ is also importan…
A remarkable U(1) gauge extension of the supersymmetric standard model was proposed eight years ago. It is anomaly-free, has no mu term, and conserves baryon and lepton numbers automatically. The phenomenology of a specific version of this model is discussed. In particular, leptoquarks are predicted, with couplings to the heavy singlet neutrinos, the scalar partners of which may be components of dark matter. The Majorana neutrino mass matrix itself may have two zero subdeterminants.
Inspired by the Standard Model of particle physics, we discuss a mechanism for constructing chiral, anomaly-free gauge theories. The gauge symmetries and particle content of such theories are identified using subgroups and complex representations of simple anomaly-free Lie groups, such as $SO(10)$ or $E_6$. We explore, using mostly $SO(10)$ and the $\mathbf{16}$ representation, several of these "imperfect copies" of the Standard Model, including $U(1)^N$ theories, $SU(5)\otimes U(1)$ theories, $SU(4)\otimes U(1)^2$ theories with 4-plets and 6-plets, and chiral $SU(3)\otimes SU(2)\otimes U(1)$.…
Extensions of the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) gauge group abound in the literature. Several of these include an additional $U(1)_X$ gauge group. Chiral fermions' charge assignments under $U(1)_X$ are constrained to cancel local anomalies in the extension and they determine the structure and phenomenology of it. We provide all anomaly-free charge assignments up to a maximum absolute charge of $Q_\text{max}=10$, assuming that the chiral superfield content of the model is that of the MSSM plus up to three Standard Model (SM) singlet superfields. The fermionic components of these …
We consider chiral magnetohydrodynamics, i.e. a finite-temperature system where an axial $U(1)$ current is not conserved due to an Adler-Bell-Jackiw anomaly saturated by the dynamical operator $F_{μν} \tilde{F}^{μν}$. We express this anomaly in terms of the 1-form symmetry associated with magnetic flux conservation and study its realization at finite temperature. We present Euclidean generating functional and dissipative action approaches to the dynamics and reproduce some aspects of chiral MHD phenomenology from an effective theory viewpoint, including the chiral separation and magnetic effec…
