We discuss a model with a dark sector, in which smallness of mass for charged leptons and neutrinos can naturally be explained by one-loop effects mediated by particles in the dark sector. These new particles, including dark matter candidates, also contribute to the anomalous magnetic dipole moment, denoted by $(g-2)$, for charged leptons. We show that our model can explain the muon $(g-2)$ anomaly and observed neutrino oscillations under the constraints from lepton flavor violating decays of charged leptons. We illustrate that the scenario with scalar dark matter is highly constrained by direct searches at the LHC, while that with fermionic dark matter allows for considering dark scalars with masses of order 100 GeV. Our scenario can be tested by a precise measurement of the muon Yukawa coupling as well as the direct production of dark scalar bosons at future electron-positron colliders.
We study the phenomenology of d=7 1-loop neutrino mass models. All models in this particular class require the existence of several new $SU(2)_L$ multiplets, both scalar and fermionic, and thus predict a rich phenomenology at the LHC. The observed neutrino masses and mixings can easily be fitted in these models. Interestingly, despite the smallness of the observed neutrino masses, some particular lepton number violating (LNV) final states can arise with observable branching ratios. These LNV final states consists of leptons and gauge bosons with high multiplicities, such as 4l+4W, 6l+2W, etc. …
We study the impact that a heavy generation of vector-like leptons can have on the value of the electric dipole moment of the electron, and the rates for the flavor violating processes mu --> e gamma and mu --> 3e. The smallness of the charged lepton masses suggests that at least some of the Yukawa coupling constants of the vector-like leptons to the ordinary leptons or amongst themselves are small, but even with such small couplings experiments trying to detect these quantities are sensitive to extra generation lepton masses up to about 100 TeV.
The most general phenomenological model involving a lepton triplet with hypercharge $\pm 1$ is constructed. A distinctive feature of this model is the prediction of a doubly charged lepton, and a new heavy Dirac neutrino. We study the phenomenology of these exotic leptons in both low-energy experiments and at the LHC. The model predicts FCNC processes such as rare muon decays, which are studied in detail in order to constrain the model parameters. All the decay channels of the exotic leptons are described for a wide range of parameters. It is found that, if the mixing parameters between the ex…
The field of lepton flavor violation will live an era of unprecedented developments in the near future, with dedicated experiments in different fronts. The observation of a flavor violating process involving charged leptons would be a clear evidence of physics beyond the Standard Model, thus motivating the great effort in this direction. Furthermore, in case a positive signal is found, a proper theoretical understanding of the lepton flavor anatomy of a given model would become necessary. Here I briefly review the current situation, emphasizing the most relevant theoretical and phenomenologica…
We develop a systematic procedure of constructing lepton mass matrices that satisfy all the experimental constraints in the light lepton sector of the minimal left-right symmetric model with type-I seesaw dominance. This method is unique since it is applicable to the most general cases of type-I seesaw with complex electroweak vacuum expectation values in the model. With this method, we investigate the TeV-scale phenomenology in the normal hierarchy without fine-tuning of model parameters, focusing on the charged lepton flavour violation, neutrinoless double beta decay, and electric dipole mom…
We review Lepton Flavour Violation (LFV) in the supersymmetric version of the seesaw mechanism (type I, II, III) and in Left-Right models. The LFV needed to explain neutrino masses and mixings is the only source of LFV and has experimental implications both in low-energy experiments where we search for the radiative decays of leptons, and at the LHC where we look at its imprint on the LFV decays of the sparticles and on slepton mass splittings. We discuss how this confrontation between high- and low-energy LFV observables may provide information about the underlying mechanism of LFV.
We will investigate the scenario in which the Standard Model (SM) Higgs sector and its 2-doublet extension (called the Two Higgs Doublet Model or 2HDM) are the "portal" for the interactions between the Standard Model and a fermionic Dark Matter (DM) candidate. The latter is the lightest stable neutral particle of a family of vector-like leptons (VLLs). We will provide an extensive overview of this scenario combining the constraints purely coming from DM phenomenology with more general constraints like Electro-weak Precision Tests (EWPT) as well as with collider searches. In the case that the n…
We study the impact of heavy vector-like leptons on several observables in collider and low-energy physics. These states, present in many well-motivated extensions of the Standard Model, can induce lepton flavour violation and non-standard Higgs decays. We study these effects in an effective model inspired by the composite Higgs scenario. After deriving bounds on the mass and production cross-section of the vector-like states using recent LHC data on multilepton searches, we discuss the modification of the Higgs decays to dilepton, diphoton and $Zγ$ final states as well as low-energy observabl…
Ultralight scalars, which are states that are either exactly massless or much lighter than any other massive particle in the model, appear in many new physics scenarios. Axions and majorons constitute well-motivated examples of this type of particle. In this work, we explore the phenomenology of these states in low-energy leptonic observables adopting a model independent approach that includes both scalar and pseudoscalar interactions. Then, we consider processes in which the ultralight scalar $ϕ$ is directly produced, such as $μ\to e \, ϕ$, or acts as a mediator, as in $τ\to μμμ$. Finally, co…
We study the dark matter phenomenology of scotogenic frameworks through a rather illustrative model extending the Standard Model by scalar and fermionic singlets and doublets. Such a setup is phenomenologically attractive since it provides the radiative generation of neutrino masses, while also including viable candidates for cold dark matter. We employ a Markov Chain Monte Carlo algorithm to explore the associated parameter space in view of numerous constraints stemming from the Higgs mass, the neutrino sector, dark matter, and lepton-flavour violating processes. After a general discussion of…
Violated mirror symmetry (MS) is capable of reproducing observed qualitative properties of weak mixing for quarks and leptons. In violated MS, lepton phenomenology, that is, small neutrino masses and mixing properties different from those of quarks, requires the Dirac nature of neutrinos and existence of processes that change the total lepton number. Such processes involve heavy mirror neutrinos, and therefore occur at very high energies. CP non-conservation would mean here that the parity conserving MS Lagrangian must be non-invariant to both time reversal T and (according to the CPT theorem)…
This Thesis is devoted to the study of the phenomenology of the Higgs sector of the minimal $B-L$ extension of the Standard Model at present and future colliders. Firstly, the motivations that call for the minimal $B-L$ extension are summarised. In addition, the model is analysed in its salient parts. Moreover, a detailed review of the phenomenological allowed Higgs sector parameter space is given. Finally, a complete survey of the distinctive Higgs boson signatures of the model at both the Large Hadron Collider and the future linear colliders is presented.
We study extensions of the standard model by one generation of vector-like leptons with non-standard hypercharges, which allow for a sizable modification of the h -> gamma gamma decay rate for new lepton masses in the 300 GeV - 1 TeV range. We analyze vaccum stability implications for different hypercharges. Effects in h -> Z gamma are typically much smaller than in h -> gamma gamma, but distinct among the considered hypercharge assignments. Non-standard hypercharges constrain or entirely forbid possible mixing operators with standard model leptons. As a consequence, the leading contributions …
In a simple extension of the standard model (SM), a pair of vector like lepton doublets ($L_1$ and $L_2$) and a $SU(2)_L$ scalar doublet ($η$) have been introduced to help in accommodating the discrepancy in determination of the anomalous magnetic moments of the light leptons, namely, $e$ and $μ$. Moreover, to make our scenario friendly to a Dirac like neutrino and also for a consistent dark matter phenomenology, we specifically add a singlet scalar ($S$) and a singlet fermion ($ψ$) in the set-up. However, the singlet states also induce a meaningful contribution in other charged lepton process…
The Little Flavor model is a close cousin of the Little Higgs theory which aims to generate flavor structure around TeV scale. While the original Little Flavor only included the quark sector, here we build the lepton part of the Little Flavor model and explore its phenomenology. The model produces the neutrino mixing matrix and Majorana masses of the Standard Model neutrinos through coupling to heavy lepton partners and Little Higgses. We combine the usual right-handed seesaw mechanism with global symmetry protection to suppress the Standard Model neutrino masses, and identify the TeV partners…
We study the phenomenology of a particular leptoquark extension of the Standard Model (SM), namely the doublet-singlet scalar leptoquark extension of the SM (DSL-SM). Besides generating Majorana mass for neutrinos, these leptoquarks contribute to muon and electron $(g-2)$ and various lepton flavour violating processes. Collider signatures of the benchmark points (BPs), consistent with the neutrino oscillation data, anomalous muon/electron magnetic moments, experimental bounds on the charged lepton flavour violation observables, etc., are studied at the LHC/FCC with centre-of-mass energies of 1…
We study neutrino masses in the framework of the supersymmetric inverse seesaw model. Different from the non-supersymmetric version a minimal realization with just one pair of singlets is sufficient to explain all neutrino data. We compute the neutrino mass matrix up to 1-loop order and show how neutrino data can be described in terms of the model parameters. We then calculate rates for lepton flavour violating (LFV) processes, such as $μ\to e γ$, and chargino decays to singlet scalar neutrinos. The latter decays are potentially observable at the LHC and show a characteristic decay pattern dic…
The recent results from Daya Bay and RENO reactor neutrino experiments have firmly established that the smallest reactor mixing angle $θ_{13}$ is non-vanishing at the $5 σ$ level, with a relatively large value, i.e., $θ_{13}\approx 9^{\circ}$. Using the fact that the neutrino mixing matrix can be represented as $V_{\rm PMNS}=U_l^{\dagger} U_ν P_ν$, where $U_l$ and $U_ν$ result from the diagonalization of the charged lepton and neutrino mass matrices and $P_ν$ is a diagonal matrix containing the Majorana phases and assuming the tri-bimaximal form for $U_ν$, we investigate the possibility of acc…
Tribimaximal leptonic mixing is a mass-independent mixing scheme consistent with the present solar and atmospheric neutrino data. By conveniently decomposing the effective neutrino mass matrix associated to it, we derive generic predictions in terms of the parameters governing the neutrino masses. We extend this phenomenological analysis to other mass-independent mixing schemes which are related to the tribimaximal form by a unitary transformation. We classify models that produce tribimaximal leptonic mixing through the group structure of their family symmetries in order to point out that ther…
We investigate the phenomenology of the Higgs sector of the minimal $B-L$ extension of the Standard Model. We present results for both the foreseen energy stages of the Large Hadron Collider ($\sqrt s=7$ and 14 TeV). We show that in such a scenario several novel production and decay channels involving the two physical Higgs states could be accessed at such a machine. Amongst these, several Higgs signatures have very distinctive features with respect to those of other models with enlarged Higgs sector, as they involve interactions of Higgs bosons between themselves, with $Z'$ bosons as well as …
Low and High Energy Phenomenology of Quark-Lepton Complementarity Scenarios
We propose an extension of the Standard Model (SM) with a $U_{A'}(1)$ gauge invariant dark dector connected to the SM via a new portal -- the Stueckelberg portal, arising in the framework of dark photon $A'$ mass generation via Stueckelberg mechanism. This portal opens through the effective dim=5 operators constructed from the covariant term of the auxiliary Stueckelberg scalar field $σ$ providing flavor non-diagonal renormalizable couplings of both $σ$ and $A'$ to the SM fermions $ψ$. The Stueckelberg scalar plays a role of Goldstone boson in the generation of mass of the Dark Photon. Contrar…
We study the "lepton-specific" two Higgs doublet model, in which one doublet Phi_l gives mass to charged leptons and the other Phi_q gives mass to both up- and down-type quarks. We examine the existing experimental constraints on the charged Higgs boson mass and the parameter tan(beta) \equiv <Phi_q^0>/<Phi_l^0>. The most stringent constraints come from LEP-II direct searches and lepton flavour universality in tau decays. The former yields M_H+ \geq 92.0 GeV; the latter yields two allowed regions, 0.61 tan(beta) GeV \leq M_H+ \leq 0.73 tan(beta) GeV or M_H+ \geq 1.4 tan(beta) GeV, and excludes…
Many proposed and upcoming experiments seek to observe signals from upward going air showers initiated by tau leptons resulting from neutrino interactions inside the Earth. To save calculation time, event estimations for these observation methods are usually performed while making several assumptions about the showers themselves, which simplifies their rich phenomenology and may or may not lead to inaccuracies in results. Here, we present results of extensive CORSIKA simulations of upward going tau initiated showers in the energy range 1 PeV to 10 EeV. Specifically, we monitor the Cherenkov em…
We perform a phenomenological study of the scalar sector of two models that generate neutrino mass at the three-loop level and contain viable dark matter candidates. Both models contain a charged singlet scalar and a larger scalar multiplet (triplet or quintuplet). We investigate the effect of the extra scalars on the Higgs mass and analyze the modifications to the triple Higgs coupling. The new scalars can give observable changes to the Higgs decay channel $h\rightarrowγγ$ and, furthermore, we find that the electroweak phase transition becomes strongly first-order in large regions of paramete…
We review and revise phenomenology of the GeV-scale heavy neutral leptons (HNLs). We extend the previous analyses by including more channels of HNLs production and decay and provide with more refined treatment, including QCD corrections for the HNLs of masses $\mathcal{O}(1)$ GeV. We summarize the relevance of individual production and decay channels for different masses, resolving a few discrepancies in the literature. Our final results are directly suitable for sensitivity studies of particle physics experiments (ranging from proton beam-dump to the LHC) aiming at searches for heavy neutral …
We study the phenomenology of a supersymmetric left-right model, assuming minimal supergravity boundary conditions. Both left-right and (B-L) symmetries are broken at an energy scale close to, but significantly below the GUT scale. Neutrino data is explained via a seesaw mechanism. We calculate the RGEs for superpotential and soft parameters complete at 2-loop order. At low energies lepton flavour violation (LFV) and small, but potentially measurable mass splittings in the charged scalar lepton sector appear, due to the RGE running. Different from the supersymmetric 'pure seesaw' models, both,…

This dissertation investigates the flavor mixing effects in supersymmetric models on electroweak precision observables, Higgs boson mass predictions, B-physics observables, quark flavor violating Higgs decays, lepton flavor violating charged lepton decays and lepton flavor violating Higgs decays. The flavor mixing effects are studied in model independent way i.e. by putting off-diagonal entries in the sfermion mass matrix by hand as well as in the minimal flavor violating constrained MSSM, where mixing can originate from CKM matrix in the case of squarks and from PMNS matrix in the case of sle…
We examine various direct and indirect constraints on the lepton-specific two-Higgs doublet model and scrutinize the property of the Higgs bosons in the allowed parameter space. These constraints come from the precision electroweak data, the direct search for Higgs boson, the muon anomalous magnetic moment, as well as some theoretical consistency requirements. We find that in the allowed parameter space the CP-odd Higgs boson A is rather light (m_A < 30 GeV with 95% possibility), which is composed dominantly by the leptonic Higgs and decays dominantly into τ^+ τ^-; while the SM-like Higgs boso…
We study a supersymmetric version of the seesaw mechanism type-III considering two variants of the model: a minimal version for explaining neutrino data with only two copies of 24-plet superfields and a model with three generations of 24-plets. The latter predicts in general rates for $μ\to eγ$ inconsistent with experimental data. However, this bound can be evaded if certain special conditions within the neutrino sector are fulfilled. In case of two 24-plets lepton flavour violation constraints can be satisfied much easier. After specifying the corresponding regions in the CMSSM parameter spac…
We consider the production at the LHC of exotic composite leptons of charge Q=+2e. Such states are allowed in composite models which contain extended isospin multiplets (Iw=1 and Iw=3/2). These doubly charged leptons couple with Standard Model [SM] fermions via gauge interactions, thereby delineating and restricting their possible decay channels. We discuss the production cross section at the LHC of L++ (p p --> L++, l-) and concentrate on the leptonic signature deriving from the cascade decays L++ --> W+, l+ --> l+, l+, ν_l i.e. p p --> l-, l+, l+, ν_l showing that the invariant mass distribu…
We investigate a gauge extension of the Standard Model in light of the observed hints of lepton universality violation in $b \to c \ell ν$ and $b \to s \ell^+ \ell^-$ decays at BaBar, Belle and LHCb. The model consists of an extended gauge group $\mathrm{SU(2)}_{1} \times \mathrm{SU(2)}_{2} \times \mathrm{U(1)}_Y$ which breaks spontaneously around the TeV scale to the electroweak gauge group. Fermion mixing effects with vector-like fermions give rise to potentially large new physics contributions in flavour transitions mediated by $W^{\prime}$ and $Z^{\prime}$ bosons. This model can ease tensi…
We review the low energy constraints on type I see-saw extensions of the Standard Model in which the scale of new physics, associated to lepton number violation, can be probed at current collider searches. In such scenarios, the flavour structure of the charged current and neutral current weak interactions of the Standard Model leptons with the heavy right-handed neutrinos, which provide the contribution of new physics, is essentially determined by the neutrino oscillation parameters. Correlations among different low energy observables in the lepton sector emerge, which may provide a striking …
Assuming that the leptonic mixing matrix is given in first approximation by the tribimaximal form we deduce some consequences with regard to the finite symmetries that may be applied in the minimal lepton sector of the electroweak theory.
