If a Z' gauge boson from a gauged L_mu - L_tau symmetry is very light, it is associated with a long-range leptonic force. In this case the particles in the Sun create via mixing of the Z' with the Standard Model Z a flavor-dependent potential for muon neutrinos in terrestrial long-baseline experiments. The potential changes sign for anti-neutrinos and hence can lead to apparent differences in neutrino and anti-neutrino oscillations without introducing CP or CPT violation. This could for instance explain the recently found discrepancy in the MINOS experiment. We obtain the associated parameters of gauged L_mu - L_tau required to explain this anomaly. The consequences for future long-baseline experiments are also discussed, and we compare the scenario to standard NSIs. When used to explain MINOS, both approaches have severe difficulties with existing limits.
We study the inclusion of new heavy fermions on complex scalar dark matter (DM) phenomenology within gauged two Higgs doublet model (G2HDM). We find that for DM mass above 1 TeV, heavy quarks coannihilations into the Standard Model (SM) quarks and gluons dominate the thermally-averaged cross section relevant for the relic abundance of complex scalar DM. We demonstrate that the effects of QCD Sommerfeld correction as well as QCD bound state formation in determining the DM relic are negligible. We show that the allowed parameter space is significantly constrained by the current PLANCK relic dens…
We consider the phenomenological consequences of a hidden Higgs sector extending the Standard Model (SM), in which the matter content are uncharged under the SM gauge groups. We consider a simple case where the hidden sector is gauged under a U(1) with one Higgs singlet. The only couplings between SM and the hidden sector are through mixings between the neutral gauge bosons of the two respective sectors, and between the Higgs bosons. We find signals testable at the LHC that can reveal the existence and shed light on the nature of such a hidden sector.
Gauged $U(1)_{L_μ- L_τ}$ model has been advocated for a long time in light of muon $g-2$ anomaly, which is a more than $3σ$ discrepancy between the experimental measurement and the standard model prediction. We augment this model with three right-handed neutrinos $(N_e, N_μ, N_τ)$ and a vector-like singlet fermion $(χ)$ to explain simultaneously the non-zero neutrino mass and dark matter content of the Universe, while satisfying anomalous muon $g-2$ constraints. It is shown that in a large parameter space of this model we can explain positron excess, observed at PAMELA, Fermi-LAT and AMS-02, t…

We analyze a model with unbroken B-L gauge symmetry where neutrino masses are generated at one loop, after spontaneous breaking of a global U(1) symmetry. These symmetries ensure dark matter stability and the Diracness of neutrinos. Within this context, we examine fermionic dark matter. Consistency between the required neutrino mass and the observed relic abundance indicates dark matter masses and couplings within the reach of direct detection experiments.
We propose a simple extension of the standard model where neutrinos get naturally small "scotogenic" Dirac masses from an unbroken gauged $B-L$ symmetry, ensuring dark matter stability. The associated gauge boson gets mass through the Stueckelberg mechanism. Two scenarios are identified, and the resulting phenomenology briefly sketched.
New gauge symmetries often appear in theories beyond the Standard Model. Here we study a model where lepton number is promoted to a gauge symmetry. Anomaly cancellation requires the introduction of additional leptons, the lightest of which is a natural leptophilic dark matter candidate. We perform a comprehensive study of both collider and dark matter phenomenology. Furthermore we find that the model exhibits a first order lepton number breaking phase transition in large regions of parameter space. The corresponding gravitational wave signal is computed, and its detectability at LISA and other…
We work out the phenomenology of a model of supersymmetry breaking in the presence of a tiny (tunable) positive cosmological constant, proposed by the authors in arXiv:1403.1534. It utilises a single chiral multiplet with a gauged shift symmetry, that can be identified with the string dilaton (or an appropriate compactification modulus). The model is coupled to the MSSM, leading to calculable soft supersymmetry breaking masses and a distinct low energy phenomenology that allows to differentiate it from other models of supersymmetry breaking and mediation mechanisms.
We proposed a model which can explain the neutrino phenomenology, dark matter and anomalous magnetic moment$(g-2)$ in a common framework. The inverted sea saw (ISS)(2,3) mechanism has been incorporated, in which we get an extra sterile state and this state act as a viable dark matter candidate. The right handed neutrino mass is obtained in TeV scale, which is accessible at LHC. The anomaly free $U(1)_{L_{e}-Lμ}$ gauge symmetry is introduced to explain the anomalous magnetic moment of electron and muon because it provides a natural origin of $(g-2)$ in a very minimal setup. The corresponding Me…
We study the phenomenology of a model where an SU(2)^3 flavour symmetry acting on the first two generation quarks is gauged and Yukawa couplings for the light generations are generated by a see-saw mechanism involving heavy fermions needed to cancel flavour-gauge anomalies. We find that, in constrast to the SU(3)^3 case studied in the literature, most of the constraints related to the third generation, like electroweak precision bounds or B physics observables, can be evaded, while characteristic collider signatures are predicted.
We investigate the tree-level neutrino mass generation in the gauged $U(1)_\ell$ lepton model recently proposed by us [arXiv:1805.10382]. With the addition of one Standard Model(SM) singlet, $ϕ_1(Y=0, \ell=1)$, and one SM triplet scalar, $T(Y=-1,\ell=0)$, realistic lepton masses can be accommodated. The resulting magnitude of neutrino mass is given by $\sim v_t^3/v_L^2$, where $v_t$ and $v_L$ are the vacuum expectation values of $T$ and $ϕ_1$, respectively, and it is automatically of the inverse see-saw type. Since $v_L$ is the lepton number violation scale we take it to be high, i.e. ${\cal O…
We study a model with $U(1)$ gauged lepton number symmetry in which the active neutrino masses are generated at two-loop level through the spontaneous breaking of the lepton number symmetry. To cancel gauge anomalies some exotic leptons are introduced that also play an important role in generating neutrino masses and the lightest neutral one can be a dark matter candidate. We discuss a phenomenology of the neutral fermion sector including dark matter, lepton flavor violations, and an extra neutral gauge boson $Z'$ that can be tested by $e^+ e^-$ collision at the International Linear Collider (…
We propose a predictively radiative neutrino mass model with gauged $U(1)_{B-2L_{\ell_2}-L_{\ell_1}}$ symmetry in which we successfully realize two-zero textures of neutrino mass matrix depending on charge assignment for leptons and the singlet scalar fields. Then some correlations of neutrino parameters are shown where we take mass structure given by $(\ell_2, \ell_1) = (μ, τ)$ or $(μ, e)$ as a representative case. Furthermore we discuss phenomenology of the model such as lepton flavor violations, collider physics, and dark matter candidate.
We present an extensive analysis of Delta F=2 observables and of B -> X_s gamma in the framework of a specific Maximally Gauged Flavour (MGF) model of Grinstein et al. including all relevant contributions, in particular tree-level heavy gauge boson exchanges that are considered in the present paper for the first time. The model allows in principle for significant deviations from the Standard Model predictions for epsilon_K, Delta M_{B_{d,s}}, mixing induced CP-asymmetries S_{psi K_S} and S_{psi phi} and B -> X_s gamma decay. The tension between epsilon_K and S_{psi K_S} present in the SM can b…
We consider the gauging of $L_μ- L_τ$ as an explanation of a possibly large muon anomalous magnetic moment. We then show how neutrino masses with bimaximal mixing may be obtained in this framework. We study the novel phenomenology of the associated gauge boson in the context of present and future high-energy collider experiments.
A well-motivated framework to naturally introduce neutrino masses is the B-L model, a U(1) extension of the standard model related to the baryon minus lepton gauged number. Besides three right-handed neutrinos, that are included to cancel the anomalies (thereby naturally providing neutrino masses), this model also encompasses a complex scalar for the spontaneous symmetry breaking of the extended gauge sector and to give mass to the Z' boson. We present the phenomenology, the discovery potential at the LHC, and the most up-to-date experimental and theoretical limits of the new particles in this…
Recent data on $e^+/e^-$ and $\bar{p}$ cosmic rays suggest that dark matter annihilate into the standard model (SM) particles through new leptophilic interaction. In this paper, we consider a standard model extension with the gauged $U(1)_{L_μ- L_τ}$ group, with a new Dirac fermion charged under this U(1) as a dark matter. We study the muon $(g-2)_μ$, thermal relic density of the cold dark matter, and the collider signatures of this model. $Z^{'}$ productions at the Tevatron or the LHC could be easily order of $O(1)-O(10^3)$ fb.
In the framework of anomaly free $U(1)_{L_μ-L_τ}$ model, charged scalar fields give rise to massive gauge boson ($Z_{μτ}$) through spontaneous symmetry breaking. $Z_{μτ}$ leads to one loop contribution to the muon anomalous magnetic moment. These scalar fields may, also, appear in the structure of right-handed neutrino mass matrix, thus, connecting the possible explanation of muon ($g-2$) and low energy neutrino phenomenology through $vevs$ associated with the scalar fields. In the present work, we consider textures of inverse neutrino mass matrix ($M_ν^{-1}$) wherein any two elements of the m…
We explore the constraints and phenomenology of possibly the simplest scenario that could account at the same time for the active neutrino masses and the dark matter in the Universe within a gauged $U(1)_{B-L}$ symmetry, namely right-handed neutrino dark matter. We find that null searches from lepton and hadron colliders require dark matter with a mass below 900 GeV to annihilate through a resonance. Additionally, the very strong constraints from high-energy dilepton searches fully exclude the model for $ 150 \, \text{GeV} < m_{Z'} < 3 \, \text{TeV}$. We further explore the phenomenology in th…
We study the cosmology of a recent model of supersymmetry breaking, in the presence of a tuneable positive cosmological constant, based on a gauged shift symmetry of a string modulus that can be identified with the string dilaton. The minimal spectrum of the `hidden' supersymmetry breaking sector consists then of a vector multiplet that gauges the shift symmetry of the dilaton multiplet and when coupled to the MSSM leads to a distinct low energy phenomenology depending on one parameter. Here we study the question if this model can also lead to inflation by identifying the dilaton with the infl…
We consider a mechanism for neutrino mass generation, based on a local B-L extension of the standard model, which becomes a linear seesaw regime for light neutrinos after spontaneous symmetry breaking. The spectrum of extra particles includes heavy neutrinos with masses near the TeV scale and a heavy Z' boson, as well as three extra neutral scalars and a charged scalar pair. We study the production and decays of these heavy particles at the LHC. Z' will decay mainly into heavy neutrino pairs or charged lepton pairs, similar to other low scale seesaw scenarios with local B-L, while the phenomen…
It is well known that the differences between the lepton numbers can be gauged with the Standard Model matter content. Such extended gauge theories, dubbed as the gauged U(1)$_{L_α- L_β}$ models, have been widely discussed so far as potential candidates for physics beyond the Standard Model. In this work, we study the minimal versions of these gauge theories, where three right-handed neutrinos as well as a single U(1)$_{L_α- L_β}$ symmetry breaking Higgs field---an SU(2)$_L$ singlet or doublet---are introduced. In these minimal models, the neutrino mass terms are constrained by the gauge symme…
The Inverse Seesaw naturally explains the smallness of neutrino masses via an approximate $B-L$ symmetry broken only by a correspondingly small parameter. In this work the possible dynamical generation of the Inverse Seesaw neutrino mass mechanism from the spontaneous breaking of a gauged $U(1)$ $B-L$ symmetry is investigated. Interestingly, the Inverse Seesaw pattern requires a chiral content such that anomaly cancellation predicts the existence of extra fermions belonging to a dark sector with large, non-trivial, charges under the $U(1)$ $B-L$. We investigate the phenomenology associated to …
We explore the generation of the baryon asymmetry in an extension of the Standard Model where the lepton number is promoted to a $U(1)_\ell$ gauge symmetry with an associated $Z^\prime$ gauge boson. This is based on a novel electroweak baryogenesis mechanism first proposed by us in Ref. \cite{Carena:2018cjh}. Extra fermionic degrees of freedom - including a fermionic dark matter $χ$ - are introduced in the dark sector for anomaly cancellation. Lepton number is spontaneously broken at high scale and the effective theory, containing the Standard Model, the $Z^\prime$, the fermionic dark matter, …
In this work, we have considered a gauged $U(1)_{\rm B-L}$ extension of the Standard Model (SM) with three right handed neutrinos for anomaly cancellation and two additional SM singlet complex scalars with non-trivial B-L charges. One of these is used to spontaneously break the $U(1)_{\rm B-L}$ gauge symmetry, leading to Majorana masses for the neutrinos through the standard Type I seesaw mechanism, while the other becomes the dark matter (DM) candidate in the model. We test the viability of the model to simultaneously explain the DM relic density observed in the CMB data as well as the Galact…
We extend the colored Zee-Babu model with a gauged $U(1)_{B-L}$ symmetry and a scalar singlet dark matter (DM) candidate $S$. The spontaneous breaking of $U(1)_{B-L}$ leaves a residual $Z_2$ symmetry that stabilizes the DM and generates tiny neutrino mass at the two-loop level with the color seesaw mechanism. After investigating dark matter and flavor phenomenology of this model systematically, we further focus on its imprint on two of cosmic-ray anomalies: the Fermi-LAT gamma-ray excess at the Galactic Center (GCE) and the PeV ultra-high energy (UHE) neutrino events at the IceCube. We found t…
We present a scenario where neutrino masses and Dark Matter are related due to a global $U(1)_{B-L}$ symmetry. Specifically we consider neutrino mass generation via the Zee--Babu two-loop mechanism, augmented by a scalar singlet whose VEV breaks the global $U(1)_{B-L}$ symmetry. In order to obtain a Dark Matter candidate we introduce two Standard Model singlet fermions. They form a Dirac particle and are stable because of a remnant $Z_2$ symmetry. Hence, in this model the stability of Dark Matter follows from the global $U(1)_{B-L}$ symmetry. We discuss the Dark Matter phenomenology of the mod…
We present an $A_4$ flavor extended $\rm B-L$ model for realization of eV scale sterile neutrinos, motivated by the recent experimental hints from both particle physics and cosmology. The framework considered here is a gauged $\rm B-L$ extension of standard model without the introduction of right-handed neutrinos, where the gauge triangle anomalies are canceled with the inclusion of three exotic neutral fermions $N_{i}$ ($i=1,2,3$) with $\rm B-L$ charges $-4,-4$ and $5$. The usual Dirac Yukawa couplings between the SM neutrinos and the exotic fermions are absent and thus, the model allows natu…
We study a supersymmetric version of the seesaw mechanism type-III considering two variants of the model: a minimal version for explaining neutrino data with only two copies of 24-plet superfields and a model with three generations of 24-plets. The latter predicts in general rates for $μ\to eγ$ inconsistent with experimental data. However, this bound can be evaded if certain special conditions within the neutrino sector are fulfilled. In case of two 24-plets lepton flavour violation constraints can be satisfied much easier. After specifying the corresponding regions in the CMSSM parameter spac…
The fate of R-parity is one of the central issues in the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM). Gauged $B-L$ symmetry provides a natural framework for addressing this question. Recently, it was pointed out that the minimal such theory does not need any additional Higgs if the $B-L$ breaking is achieved through the VEVs of right-handed sneutrinos, which ties the new physics scale to the scale of the MSSM. We show here that this immediately leads to an important prediction of two light sterile neutrinos, which can play a significant role in the BBN and neutrino oscillations. We also discu…
The role of repulsive interactions in statistical systems of Bose particles is investigated. Three different phenomenological frameworks are considered: a mean field model, an excluded volume model, and a model with a medium dependent effective mass. All three models are tuned to yield similar equations of state, with only minor deviations from the ideal Bose gas at small chemical potentials. Our analysis indicates, however, that these models lead to qualitatively different results for the Bose-Einstein condensation phenomenon. We discuss the different aspects of this phenomenon, namely, an on…
We study the structure of the neutrino mass matrix in the minimal gauged U(1)$_{L_μ-L_τ}$ model, where three right-handed neutrinos are added to the Standard Model in order to obtain non-zero masses for active neutrinos. Because of the U(1)$_{L_μ-L_τ}$ gauge symmetry, the structure of both Dirac and Majorana mass terms of neutrinos is tightly restricted. In particular, the inverse of the neutrino mass matrix has zeros in the $(μ,μ)$ and $(τ,τ)$ components, namely, this model offers a symmetric realization of the so-called two-zero-minor structure in the neutrino mass matrix. Due to these const…
We carry out a detailed analysis of the nonminimal supersymmetric standard model with lepton number violation. The model contains a unique trilinear lepton number violating term in the superpotential which can give rise to neutrino masses at the tree level. We search for the gauged discrete symmetries realized by cyclic groups which preserve the structure of the associated trilinear superpotential of this model, and which satisfy the constraints of the anomaly cancellation. The implications of this trilinear lepton number violating term in the superpotential and the associated soft supersymmet…
We consider the phenomenology of the gauged abelian symmetry B + 3 (L_e - L_mu - L_tau). Right-handed neutrinos necessary to cancel triangle anomalies are used in a type-I seesaw scheme to create active neutrino masses. Breaking the B + 3 (L_e - L_mu - L_tau) symmetry spontaneously below the seesaw scale generates low energy neutrino mass matrices with the approximate symmetries L_e (leading to normal hierarchy) or L_e - L_mu - L_tau (inverted hierarchy). For the latter we need to introduce a Z_2 symmetry which decouples one of the right-handed neutrinos. If exact, this Z_2 leads to a Majorana…
The Standard Model's accidental and anomaly-free currents: $B-L$, $L_e-L_μ$, $L_e-L_τ$, and $L_μ-L_τ$, could be indicative of a hidden gauge structure beyond the Standard Model. Additionally, neutrino masses can be generated by a dimension-5 operator that generically breaks all of these symmetries. It is therefore important to investigate the compatibility of a gauged $U'(1)$ and neutrino phenomenology. We consider gauging each of the symmetries above with a minimal extended matter content. This includes the $Z'$, an order parameter to break the $U'(1)$, and three right-handed neutrinos. We fi…
The latest results of anomalous muon magnetic moment at Fermilab show a discrepancy of 4.2 $σ$ between the Standard Model (SM) prediction and experimental value. In this work, we revisit $U(1)_{L_μ-L_τ}$ symmetry with in the paradigm of scotogenic model which explains muon ($g-2$) and neutrino mass generation, simultaneously. The mass of new gauge boson $M_{Z_{μτ}}$ generated after the spontaneous symmetry breaking of $U(1)_{L_μ-L_τ}$ is constrained, solely, in light of the current neutrino oscillation data to explain muon ($g-2$). In particular, we have obtained two regions I and II, around 1…
Recent results from the MINOS accelerator neutrino experiment suggest a possible difference between nu_mu and anti-nu_mu disappearance oscillation parameters, which one may ascribe to a new long-distance potential acting on neutrinos. As a specific example, we consider a model with gauged B - L_e - 2 L_tau number that contains an extremely light new vector boson m_Z' < 10^-18 eV and extraordinarily weak coupling alpha' < 10^-52. In that case, differences between nu_mu to nu_tau and anti-nu_mu to anti-nu_tau oscillations can result from a long-range potential due to neutrons in the Earth and th…
Among the combinations $L_e-L_μ$, $L_e-L_τ$ and $L_μ-L_τ$ any one can be gauged in anomaly free way with the standard model gauge group. The masses of these gauge bosons can be so light that it can induce long-range forces on the Earth due to the electrons in the Sun. This type of forces can be constrained significantly from neutrino oscillation. As the sign of the potential is opposite for neutrinos and antineutrinos, a magnetized iron calorimeter detector (ICAL) would be able to produce strong constraint on it. We have made conservative studies of these long-range forces with atmospheric neu…
