The existence of Kahler-Einstein metrics on a Fano manifold is characterized in terms of a uniform gap between 0 and the first positive eigenvalue of the Cauchy-Riemann operator on smooth vector fields. It is also characterized by a similar gap between 0 and the first positive eigenvalue for Hamiltonian vector fields. The underlying tool is a compactness criterion for suitably bounded subsets of the space of Kahler potentials which implies a positive gap.
We prove a Lichnerowicz type lower bound for the first nontrivial eigenvalue of the $p$-Laplacian on Kähler manifolds. Parallel to the $p = 2$ case, the first eigenvalue lower bound is improved by using a decomposition of the Hessian on Kähler manifolds with positive Ricci curvature.
In this paper, we give an optimal lower bound for the eigenvalues of the basic Dirac operator on a quaternion-Kahler foliation. The limiting case is characterized by the existence of quaternion-Kahler Killing spinors. We end this paper by giving some examples.
In this paper, we prove Kirchberg inequalities for any kahler spin foliations. Their limiting cases are then characterized as being transversal minimal Einstein foliations. The key point is to introduce the transversal kahlerian twistor operators.
We study Laplace eigenvalues $λ_k$ on Kähler manifolds as functionals on the space of Kähler metrics with cohomologous Kähler forms. We introduce a natural notion of a $λ_k$-extremal Kähler metric and obtain necessary and sufficient conditions for it. A particular attention is paid to the $λ_1$-extremal properties of Kähler-Einstein metrics of positive scalar curvature on manifolds with non-trivial holomorphic vector fields.
It is proved that a compact Kahler manifold whose Ricci tensor has two distinct, constant, non-negative eigenvalues is locally the product of two Kahler-Einstein manifolds. A stronger result is established for the case of Kahler surfaces. Irreducible Kahler manifolds with two distinct, constant eigenvalues of the Ricci tensor are shown to exist in various situations: there are homogeneous examples of any complex dimension n > 1, if one eigenvalue is negative and the other positive or zero, and of any complex dimension n > 2, if the both eigenvalues are negative; there are non-homogeneous examp…
We study geometric first order differential operators on quaternionic Kähler manifolds. Their principal symbols are related to the enveloping algebra and Casimir elements for $\Sp(1)\Sp(n)$. This observation leads to anti-symmetry of the principal symbols and Bochner-Weitzenböck formulas for operators. As an application, we estimate the first eigenvalues of them.
It is shown that on a compact spin symmetric space with a Kähler or Quaternion-Kähler structure, the first eigenvalue of the Dirac operator is linked to a ''{lowest}'' action of the holonomy, given by the fiberwise action on spinors of the canonical forms characterized by this holonomy. The result is also verified for the symmetric space $\mathrm{F}_4/\mathrm{Spin}_9$, proving that it is valid for all the ''{possible}'' holonomies in the Berger's list occurring in that context. The proof requires a characterization of the first eigenvalue of the Dirac operator which was given in Commun. Math. …
Given a simply connected compact generalized flag manifold M together with its invariant Kähler Einstein metric g, we investigate the functional given by the first eigenvalue of the Hodge Laplacian on smooth functions restricted to the space of invariant Kähler metrics. We give sufficient and necessary conditions so that the metric g is a critical point for this functional. Moreover we prove that when M is a full flag manifold, the metric g is critical if and only if M= SU(3)/T^2 and in this case g is a maximum.
We establish a lower bound for the eigenvalues of the Dirac operator defined on a compact Kähler-Einstein manifold of positive scalar curvature and endowed with particular ${\rm spin}^c$ structures. The limiting case is characterized by the existence of Kählerian Killing ${\rm spin}^c$ spinors in a certain subbundle of the spinor bundle. Moreover, we show that the Clifford multiplication between an effective harmonic form and a Kählerian Killing ${\rm spin}^c$ spinor field vanishes. This extends to the ${\rm spin}^c$ case the result of A. Moroianu stating that, on a compact Kähler-Einstein man…
We generalise a theorem of Engman and Abreu--Freitas on the first invariant eigenvalue of non-negatively curved $S^{1}$-invariant metrics on $\mathbb{CP}^{1}$ to general toric Kähler metrics with non-negative scalar curvature. In particular, a simple upper bound of the first non-zero invariant eigenvalue for such metrics on complex projective space $\mathbb{C}P^{n}$ is exhibited. We derive an analogous bound in the case when the metric is extremal and a detailed study is made of the accuracy of the bound in the case of Calabi's extremal metrics on $\mathbb{C}P^{2}\sharp -\mathbb{C}P^{2}$.
The aim of this paper is to classify compact, simply connected Kähler manifolds which admit J-invariant Killing tensor with two eigenvalues of multiplicity 2 and n-2 and with constant eigenvalue corresponding to 2-dimensional eigendistribution.
In this short note, using the Kendall-Cranston coupling, we study on Kähler (resp. quaternion Kähler) manifolds first eigenvalue estimates in terms of dimension, diameter, and lower bounds on the holomorphic (resp. quaternionic) sectional curvature.
In [LS], it is shown shown that the first eigenvalue of the Laplacian restricted to the space of invariant functions on a toric Kähler manifold (i.e. $λ_1^\mathbb{T}$, the invariant first eigenvalue) is an unbounded function of the toric Kähler metric. In this note we show that, seen as a function on the space of toric Kähler metrics on a fixed toric manifold, $λ_1^\mathbb{T}$ admits no analytic critical points. We also show that on $S^2$, the first eigenvalue of the Laplacian restricted to the space of $S^1$-equivariant functions of any given integer weight admits no critical points.
We establish an explicit lower bound of the first eigenvalue of the Laplacian on Kähler manifolds based off the comparison results of Li and Wang. The lower bound will depend on the diameter, dimension, holomorphic sectional curvature and orthogonal Ricci curvature.
We study the eigenvalue problem for the $p$-Laplacian on Kähler manifolds. Our first result is a lower bound for the first nonzero eigenvalue of the $p$-Laplacian on compact Kähler manifolds in terms of dimension, diameter, and lower bounds of holomorphic sectional curvature and orthogonal Ricci curvature for $p\in (1, 2]$. Our second result is a sharp lower bound for the first Dirichlet eigenvalue of the $p$-Laplacian on compact Kähler manifolds with smooth boundary for $p\in (1, \infty)$. Our results generalize corresponding results for the Laplace eigenvalues on Kähler manifolds proved in […
We establish lower bound for the first nonzero eigenvalue of the Laplacian on a closed Kähler manifold in terms of dimension, diameter, and lower bounds of holomorphic sectional curvature and orthogonal Ricci curvature. On compact Kähler manifolds with boundary, we prove lower bounds for the first nonzero Neumann or Dirichlet eigenvalue in terms of geometric data. Our results are Kähler analogues of well-known results for Riemannian manifolds.
We find upper and lower bounds for the first eigenvalue and the volume entropy of a noncompact real analytic Kähler manifold, in terms of Calabi's diastasis function and diastatic entropy, which are sharp in the case of the complex hyperbolic space. As a corollary we obtain explicit lower bounds for the first eigenvalue of the geodesic balls of an Hermitian symmetric space of noncompact type.
We prove lower bound for the first closed or Neumann nonzero eigenvalue of the Laplacian on a compact quaternion-Kähler manifold in terms of dimension, diameter, and scalar curvature lower bound. It is derived as large time implication of the modulus of continuity estimates for solutions of the heat equation. We also establish lower bound for the first Dirichlet eigenvalue in terms of geometric data, via a Laplace comparison theorem for the distance to the boundary function.
In this article, we prove a Lichnerowicz estimate for a compact convex domain of a Kähler manifold whose Ricci curvature satisfies $\Ric \ge k$ for some constant $k>0$. When equality is achieved, the boundary of the domain is totally geodesic and there exists a nontrivial holomorphic vector field. We show that a ball of sufficiently large radius in complex projective space provides an example of a strongly pseudoconvex domain which is not convex, and for which the Lichnerowicz estimate fails.
We calculate an upper bound for the second nonzero eigenvalue of the scalar Laplacian, $λ_{2}$, for toric Kähler-Einstein metrics in terms of the polytope data. We give some detailed examples in complex dimensions 1, 2 and 3. We also discuss extensions of this method to other geometries.
By the calculation of the gap of the consecutive eigenvalues of $\Bbb S^n$ with standard metric, using the Weyl's asymptotic formula, we know the order of the upper bound of this gap is $k^{\frac{1}{n}}.$ We conjecture that this order is also right for general Dirichlet problem of the Laplace operator, which is optimal if this conjecture holds, obviously. In this paper, using new method, we solve this conjecture in the Euclidean space case intrinsically. We think our method is valid for the case of general Riemannian manifolds and give some examples directly.
In Kähler-Einstein case of positive scalar curvature and even complex dimension, an improved lower bound for the first eigenvalue of the Dirac operator is given. It is shown by a general construction that there are manifolds for which this new lower bound itself is the first eigenvalue.
This paper concerns obstruction flatness of hypersurfaces $Σ$ that arise as unit sphere bundles $S(E)$ of Griffiths negative Hermitian vector bundles $(E, h)$ over Kähler manifolds $(M, g).$ We prove that if the curvature of $(E, h)$ satisfies a splitting condition and $(M,g)$ has constant Ricci eigenvalues, then $S(E)$ is obstruction flat. If, in addition, all these eigenvalues are strictly less than one and $(M,g)$ is complete, then we show that the corresponding ball bundle admits a complete Kähler-Einstein metric.
In this paper we study the smallest non-zero eigenvalue $λ_1$ of the Laplacian on toric Kähler manifolds. We find an explicit upper bound for $λ_1$ in terms of moment polytope data. We show that this bound can only be attained for $\mathbb{CP}^n$ endowed with the Fubini-Study metric and therefore $\mathbb{CP}^n$ endowed with the Fubini-Study metric is spectrally determined among all toric Kähler metrics. We also study the equivariant counterpart of $λ_1$ which we denote by $λ_1^T$. It is the the smallest non-zero eigenvalue of the Laplacian restricted to torus-invariant functions. We prove tha…
Let $G/K$ be a simply connected spin compact inner irreducible symmetric space, endowed with the metric induced by the Killing form of $G$ sign-changed. We give a formula for the square of the first eigenvalue of the Dirac operator in terms of a root system of $G$. As an example of application, we give the list of the first eigenvalues for the spin compact irreducible symmetric spaces endowed with a quaternion-Kähler structure.
Obstruction flatness of a strongly pseudoconvex hypersurface $Σ$ in a complex manifold refers to the property that any (local) Kähler-Einstein metric on the pseudoconvex side of $Σ$, complete up to $Σ$, has a potential $-\log u$ such that $u$ is $C^\infty$-smooth up to $Σ$. In general, $u$ has only a finite degree of smoothness up to $Σ$. In this paper, we study obstruction flatness of hypersurfaces $Σ$ that arise as unit circle bundles $S(L)$ of negative Hermitian line bundles $(L, h)$ over Kähler manifolds $(M, g).$ We prove that if $(M,g)$ has constant Ricci eigenvalues, then $S(L)$ is obst…
In this paper we construct compact manifolds with fixed boundary geometry which admit Riemannian metrics of unit volume with arbitrarily large Steklov spectral gap. We also study the effect of localized conformal deformations that fix the boundary geometry. For instance, we prove that it is possible to make the spectral gap arbitrarily large using conformal deformations which are localized on domains of small measure, as long as the support of the deformations contains and connects each component of the boundary.
We study the Yang-Mills flow on a holomorphic vector bundle E over a compact Kahler manifold X . Along a solution of the flow, we show the curvature $iΛF(A_t)$ approaches in $L^2$ an endomorphism with constant eigenvalues given by the slopes of the quotients from the Harder-Narasimhan filtration of E. This proves a sharp lower bound for the Hermitian-Yang-Mills functional and thus the Yang-Mills functional, generalizing to arbitrary dimension a formula of Atiyah and Bott first proven on Riemann surfaces. Furthermore, we show any reflexive extension to all of X of the limiting bundle $E_\infty$…
We develop new algorithms for approximating extremal toric Kähler metrics. We focus on an extremal metric on $\mathbb{CP}^{2}\sharp2\overline{\mathbb{CP}}^{2}$, which is conformal to an Einstein metric (the Chen-LeBrun-Weber metric). We compare our approximation to one given by Bunch and Donaldson and compute various geometric quantities. In particular, we demonstrate a small eigenvalue of the scalar Laplacian of the Einstein metric which gives a numerical evidence that the Einstein metric is conformally unstable under the Ricci flow.
The limiting behavior of the normalized Kähler-Ricci flow for manifolds with positive first Chern class is examined under certain stability conditions. First, it is shown that if the Mabuchi K-energy is bounded from below, then the scalar curvature converges uniformly to a constant. Second, it is shown that if the Mabuchi K-energy is bounded from below and if the lowest positive eigenvalue of the $\bar\partial^\dagger \bar\partial$ operator on smooth vector fields is bounded away from 0 along the flow, then the metrics converge exponentially fast in $C^\infty$ to a Kähler-Einstein metric.
In this paper, we investigate the Dirichlet problem of Laplacian on complete Riemannian manifolds. By constructing new trial functions, we obtain a sharp upper bound of the gap of the consecutive eigenvalues in the sense of the order, which affirmatively answers to a conjecture proposed by Chen-Zheng-Yang. In addition, we also exploit the closed eigenvalue problem of Laplacian and obtain a similar optimal upper bound. As some important examples, we investigate the eigenvalues of the eigenvalue problem of the Laplacian on the unit sphere and cylinder, compact homogeneous Riemannian manifolds wi…
We prove that if $X$ is a finite area non-compact hyperbolic surface, then for any $ε>0$, with probability tending to one as $n\to\infty$, a uniformly random degree $n$ Riemannian cover of $X$ has no eigenvalues of the Laplacian in $[0,\frac{1}{4}-ε)$ other than those of $X$, and with the same multiplicities. As a result, using a compactification procedure due to Buser, Burger, and Dodziuk, we settle in the affirmative the question of whether there exist a sequence of closed hyperbolic surfaces with genera tending to infinity and first non-zero eigenvalue of the Laplacian tending to $\frac{1}{…
We compute Dirichlet eigenvalues and eigenfunctions explicitly for spherical lunes and the spherical triangles which are half the lunes, and show that the fundamental gap goes to infinity when the angle of the lune goes to zero. Then we show the spherical equilateral triangle of diameter $\fracπ{2}$ is a strict local minimizer of the fundamental gap on the space of the spherical triangles with diameter $\fracπ{2}$, which partially extends Lu-Rowlett's result from the plane to the sphere.
There are two themes in the present paper. The first one is spelled out in the title, and is inspired by an attempt to find an analogue of Hersch-Yang-Yau estimate for $lambda_1$ of surfaces in symplectic category. In particular we prove that every split symplectic manifold $T^4 times M$ admits a compatible Riemannian metric whose first eigenvalue is arbitrary large. On the other hand for Kahler metrics compatible with a given integral symplectic form an upper bound for $lambda_1$ does exist. The second theme is the study of Hamiltonian symplectic fibrations over the 2-sphere. We construct a n…
