Let $G/K$ be a simply connected spin compact inner irreducible symmetric space, endowed with the metric induced by the Killing form of $G$ sign-changed. We give a formula for the square of the first eigenvalue of the Dirac operator in terms of a root system of $G$. As an example of application, we give the list of the first eigenvalues for the spin compact irreducible symmetric spaces endowed with a quaternion-Kähler structure.
We investigate the second Dirac eigenvalue on Riemannian manifolds admitting a Killing spinor. In small dimensions the whole Dirac spectrum depends on special eigenvalues on functions and 1-forms. We compute and discuss the formulas in dimension $n = 7$.

In two previous papers, we started a study of the first eigenvalue of the Dirac operator on compact spin symmetric spaces, providing, for symmetric spaces of "inner" type, a formula giving this first eigenvalue in terms of the algebraic data of the groups involved. It has recently been conjectured that the eigenvalues $λ$ of the Dirac operator on a closed Riemannian spin manifold $M$ of dimension $n\ge 3$ can be estimated from below by the total scalar curvature: $$ λ^2 \ge \frac{n}{4(n-1)} \cdot \frac{\int_M S}{vol(M)}. $$ We show by example that such an estimate is impossible.

We compare these limiting cases with those corresponding to the Friedrich and Hijazi inequalities. In this paper, we get estimates on the higher eigenvalues of the Dirac operator on locally reducible Riemannian manifolds, in terms of the eigenvalues of the Laplace-Beltrami operator and the scalar curvature. It is shown that on a compact spin symmetric space with a Kähler or Quaternion-Kähler structure, the first eigenvalue of the Dirac operator is linked to a ''{lowest}'' action of the holonomy, given by the fiberwise action on spinors of the canonical forms characterized by this holonomy. We prove lower Dirac eigenvalue bounds for closed surfaces with a spin structure whose Arf invariant equals 1. Besides the area only one geometric quantity enters in these estimates, the spin-cut-diameter which depends on the choice of spin structure. It can be expressed in terms of various distances on the surfaces or, alternatively, by stable norms of certain cohomology classes. In case of the 2-torus we obtain a positive lower bound for all Riemannian metrics and all nontrivial spin structures. In this article, we prove that on any compact spin manifold of dimension m congruent 0,6,7 mod 8, there exists a metric, for which the associated Dirac operator has at least one eigenvalue of multiplicity at least two. We prove this by catching the desired metric in a subspace of Riemannian metrics with a loop that is not homotopically trivial. We show how this can be done on the sphere with a loop of metrics induced by a family of rotations. Finally, we transport this loop to an arbitrary manifold (of suitable dimension) by extending some known results about surgery theory on spin manifolds.

In this note, we prove an optimal upper bound for the first Dirac eigenvalue of some hypersurfaces in Euclidean space by combining a positive mass theorem and the construction of quasi-spherical metrics. As a direct consequence of this estimate, we obtain an asymptotic expansion for the first eigenvalue of the Dirac operator on large spheres in three dimensional asymptotically flat manifolds. We also study this expansion for small geodesic spheres in a three dimensional Riemannian manifold. We finally discuss how this method can be adapted to yield similar results in the hyperbolic space.
In this paper, we prove the invariance of the spectrum of the basic Dirac operator defined on a Riemannian foliation $(M,\mathcal{F})$ with respect to a change of bundle-like metric. We then establish new estimates for its eigenvalues on spin flows in terms of the O'Neill tensor and the first eigenvalue of the Dirac operator on $M$. We discuss examples and also define a new version of the basic Laplacian whose spectrum does not depend on the choice of bundle-like metric.
A universal lower bound for the first positive eigenvalue of the Dirac operator on a compact quaternionic Kaehler manifold M of positive scalar curvature is calculated. It is shown that it is equal to the first positive eigenvalue on the quaternionic projective space. For this, the horizontal tangent bundle on the canonical SO(3)-bundle over M is equipped with a hyperkaehlerian structure and the corresponding splitting of the horizontal spinor bundle is considered. The desired estimate is obtained by looking at hyperkaehlerian twistor operators on horizontal spinors.

In the present article we show that the only manifolds in the limit case, i.e. the only manifolds where the lower bound is attained as an eigenvalue, are the quaternionic projective spaces. Given a compact Riemannian spin manifold with positive scalar curvature, we find a family of connections $\nabla^{A_t}$ for $t\in[0,1]$ on a trivial vector bundle of sufficiently high rank, such that the first eigenvalue of the twisted Dirac operator $D_{A_t}$ is nonzero and becomes arbitrarily small as $t\to1$. However, if one restricts the class of twisting connections considered, then nonzero lower bounds do exist. We illustrate this fact by establishing a nonzero lower bound for the Dirac operator twisted by Hermitian-Einstein connections over Riemann surfaces.
The paper develops the fundamentals of quaternionic holomorphic curve theory. The holomorphic functions in this theory are conformal maps from a Riemann surface into the 4-sphere, i.e., the quaternionic projective line. Basic results such as the Riemann-Roch Theorem for quaternionic holomorphic vector bundles, the Kodaira embedding and the Pluecker relations for linear systems are proven. We study the Dirac spectrum on compact Riemannian spin manifolds $M$ equipped with a metric connection $\nabla$ with skew torsion $T\inΛ^3M$ by means of twistor theory. An optimal lower bound for the first eigenvalue of the Dirac operator with torsion is found that generalizes Friedrich's classical Riemannian estimate. We also determine a novel twistor and Killing equation with torsion and use it to discuss the case in which the minimum is attained in the bound.
We derive an inequality that relates nodal set and eigenvalues of a class of twisted Dirac operators on closed surfaces and point out how this inequality naturally arises as an eigenvalue estimate for the $\rm Spin^c$ Dirac operator. This allows us to obtain eigenvalue estimates for the twisted Dirac operator appearing in the context of Dirac-harmonic maps and their extensions, from which we also obtain several Liouville type results.
