Given a compact Riemannian spin manifold with positive scalar curvature, we find a family of connections $\nabla^{A_t}$ for $t\in[0,1]$ on a trivial vector bundle of sufficiently high rank, such that the first eigenvalue of the twisted Dirac operator $D_{A_t}$ is nonzero and becomes arbitrarily small as $t\to1$. However, if one restricts the class of twisting connections considered, then nonzero lower bounds do exist. We illustrate this fact by establishing a nonzero lower bound for the Dirac operator twisted by Hermitian-Einstein connections over Riemann surfaces.
In this paper, we give two Lichnerowicz type formulas for Dirac operators and signature operators twisted by a vector bundle with a non-unitary connection. We also prove two Kastler-Kalau-Walze type theorems for twisted Dirac operators and twisted signature operators on 4-dimensional manifolds with (resp. without) boundary.
We derive an inequality that relates nodal set and eigenvalues of a class of twisted Dirac operators on closed surfaces and point out how this inequality naturally arises as an eigenvalue estimate for the $\rm Spin^c$ Dirac operator. This allows us to obtain eigenvalue estimates for the twisted Dirac operator appearing in the context of Dirac-harmonic maps and their extensions, from which we also obtain several Liouville type results.
Under standard local boundary conditions or certain global APS boundary conditions, we get lower bounds for the eigenvalues of the Dirac operator on compact spin manifolds with boundary. Limiting cases are characterized by the existence of real Killing spinors and the minimality of the boundary.
We establish an upper estimate for the small eigenvalues of the twisted Dirac operator on Kahler submanifolds in Kahler manifolds carrying Kahlerian Killing spinors. We then compute the spectrum of the twisted Dirac operator of the canonical embedding \CP^d \rightarrow \CP^n in order to test the sharpness of the upper bounds
We study twisted Jacobi manifolds, a concept that we had introduced in a previous Note. Twisted Jacobi manifolds can be characterized using twisted Dirac-Jacobi, which are sub-bundles of Courant-Jacobi algebroids. We show that each twisted Jacobi manifold has an associated Lie algebroid with a 1-cocycle. We introduce the notion of quasi-Jacobi bialgebroid and we prove that each twisted Jacobi manifold has a quasi-Jacobi bialgebroid canonically associated. Moreover, the double of a quasi-Jacobi bialgebroid is a Courant-Jacobi algebroid. Several examples of twisted Jacobi manifolds and twisted D…
In this paper, we prove two Kastler-Kalau-Walze type theorems for conformal perturbations of twisted Dirac operators and conformal perturbations of twisted signature operators on four-dimensional manifolds with (resp. without) boundary.
We define (higher rank) spinorially twisted spin structures and deduce various curvature identites as well as estimates for the eigenvalues of the corresponding twisted Dirac operators.
The correspondence between Poisson structures and symplectic groupoids, analogous to the one of Lie algebras and Lie groups, plays an important role in Poisson geometry; it offers, in particular, a unifying framework for the study of hamiltonian and Poisson actions. In this paper, we extend this correspondence to the context of Dirac structures twisted by a closed 3-form. More generally, given a Lie groupoid $G$ over a manifold $M$, we show that multiplicative 2-forms on $G$ relatively closed with respect to a closed 3-form $ϕ$ on $M$ correspond to maps from the Lie algebroid of $G$ into the c…
In this paper, we establish two kinds of Kastler-Kalau-Walze type theorems for Dirac operators and signature operators twisted by a vector bundle with a non-unitary connection on six-dimensional manifolds with boundary.
Given a closed connected spin manifold M with non-negative and somewhere positive scalar curvature, we show that the Dirac operator twisted with any flat Hilbert module bundle is invertible.
We shall give a twisted Dirac structure on the space of irreducible connections on a SU(n)-bundle over a three-manifold, and give a family of twisted Dirac structures on the space of irreducible connections on the trivial SU(n)-bundle over a four-manifold. The twist is described by the Cartan 3-form on the space of connections. It vanishes over the subspace of flat connections. So the spaces of flat connections are endowed with ( non-twisted ) Dirac structures. The Dirac structure on the space of flat connections over the three-manifold is obtained as the boundary restriction of a correspondin…
In this paper, we estimate the eigenvalues of the twisted Dirac operator on Kähler submanifolds of the complex projective space $CP^m$ and we discuss the sharpness of this estimate for the embedding $CP^d \hookrightarrow CP^m$.
In this paper, we obtain two kinds of Kastler-Kalau-Walze type theorems for conformal perturbations of twisted Dirac operators and conformal perturbations of signature operators by a vector bundle with a non-unitary connection on six-dimensional manifolds with (respectively without)boundary.
We consider Dirac operators on odd-dimensional compact spin manifolds which are twisted by a product bundle. We show that the space of connections on the twisting bundle which yield an invertible operator has infinitely many connected components if the untwisted Dirac operator is invertible and the dimension of the twisting bundle is sufficiently large.
We get optimal lower bounds for the eigenvalues of the submanifold Dirac operator on locally reducible Riemannian manifolds in terms of intrinsic and extrinsic expressions. The limiting-cases are also studied. As a corollary, one gets several known results in this direction.
For a closed, spin, odd dimensional Riemannian manifold $(Y,g)$, we define the rho invariant $ρ_{spin}(Y,E,H, g)$ for the twisted Dirac operator $D^E_H$ on $Y$, acting on sections of a flat hermitian vector bundle $E$ over $Y$, where $H = \sum i^{j+1} H_{2j+1}$ is an odd-degree closed differential form on $Y$ and $H_{2j+1}$ is a real-valued differential form of degree ${2j+1}$. We prove that it only depends on the conformal class of the pair $[H,g]$. In the special case when $H$ is a closed 3-form, we use a Lichnerowicz-Weitzenbock formula for the square of the twisted Dirac operator, to show …
We extend our earlier work in [TZ1], where an analytic approach to the Guillemin-Sternberg conjecture [GS] was developed, to cases where the Spin$^c$-complex under consideration is allowed to be further twisted by certain natural exterior power bundles. The main result is a weighted quantization formula in the presence of commuting Hamiltonian actions. The corresponding Morse type inequalities in holomorphic situations are also established.
We study the Dirac spectrum on compact Riemannian spin manifolds $M$ equipped with a metric connection $\nabla$ with skew torsion $T\inΛ^3M$ by means of twistor theory. An optimal lower bound for the first eigenvalue of the Dirac operator with torsion is found that generalizes Friedrich's classical Riemannian estimate. We also determine a novel twistor and Killing equation with torsion and use it to discuss the case in which the minimum is attained in the bound.
Starting from an even definite lattice, we construct a principal circle bundle covered by a certain three-step nilpotent Lie group G. On the base space, which is again a nilmanifold, we then study the Dirac operator twisted by the associated complex line bundles. Noting that the whole situation fibers over the circle, we are able to determine the reduced eta-invariant of these Dirac operators in the adiabatic limit. As an application, we consider the total space of the circle bundle, equipped with a parallelism induced by G, as an element in the stable homotopy groups of the sphere and use the…
Let $M$ be an orientable compact flat Riemannian manifold endowed with a spin structure. In this paper we determine the spectrum of Dirac operators acting on smooth sections of twisted spinor bundles of $M$, and we derive a formula for the corresponding eta series. In the case of manifolds with holonomy group $\Z_2^k$, we give a very simple expression for the multiplicities of eigenvalues that allows to compute explicitly the $η$-series in terms of values of Riemann-Hurwitz zeta functions, and the $η$-invariant. We give the dimension of the space of harmonic spinors and characterize all $\Z_2^…
We construct a canonical noncommutative spectral triple for every oriented closed Riemannian manifold, which represents the fundamental class in the twisted K-homology of the manifold. This so-called "projective spectral triple" is Morita equivalent to the well-known commutative spin spectral triple provided that the manifold is spin-c. We give an explicit local formula for the twisted Chern character for K-theories twisted with torsion classes, and with this formula we show that the twisted Chern character of the projective spectral triple is identical to the Poincaré dual of the A-hat genus …
We investigate the second Dirac eigenvalue on Riemannian manifolds admitting a Killing spinor. In small dimensions the whole Dirac spectrum depends on special eigenvalues on functions and 1-forms. We compute and discuss the formulas in dimension $n = 7$.
We prove a lower estimate for the first eigenvalue of the Dirac operator on a compact locally reducible Riemannian spin manifold with positive scalar curvature. We determine also the universal covers of the manifolds on which the smallest possible eigenvalue is attained.
In this note, we prove lower and upper bounds for Dirac operators of submanifolds in certain ambient manifolds in terms of conformal and extrinsic quantities.
Consider a spin manifold M, equipped with a line bundle L and an action of a compact Lie group G. We can attach to this data a family Theta(k) of distributions on the dual of the Lie algebra of G. The aim of this paper is to study the asymptotic behaviour of Theta(k) when k is large, and M possibly non compact, and to explore a functorial consequence of this formula for reduced spaces.
For a compact spin manifold $M$ isometrically embedded into Euclidean space, we derive the extrinsic estimates from above and below for eigenvalues of the Dirac operators, which depend on the second fundamental form of the embedding. We also show the bounds of the ratio of the eigenvalues.
In Kähler-Einstein case of positive scalar curvature and even complex dimension, an improved lower bound for the first eigenvalue of the Dirac operator is given. It is shown by a general construction that there are manifolds for which this new lower bound itself is the first eigenvalue.
We prove a lower bound for the first eigenvalue of the Dirac operator on a compact Riemannian spin manifold depending on the scalar curvature as well as a chosen Codazzi tensor. The inequality generalizes the classical estimate from [2].
In this paper we will prove new extrinsic upper bounds for the eigenvalues of the Dirac operator on an isometrically immersed surface $M^2 \hookrightarrow {\Bbb R}^3$ as well as intrinsic bounds for 2-dimensional compact manifolds of genus zero and genus one. Moreover, we compare the different estimates of the eigenvalue of the Dirac operator for special families of metrics.
In two previous papers, we started a study of the first eigenvalue of the Dirac operator on compact spin symmetric spaces, providing, for symmetric spaces of "inner" type, a formula giving this first eigenvalue in terms of the algebraic data of the groups involved. We conclude here that study by giving the explicit expression of the first eigenvalue for "outer" compact spin symmetric spaces.
We review some recent results concerning lower eigenvalues estimates for the Dirac operator [6, 7]. We show that Friedrich's inequality can be improved via certain well-chosen symmetric tensors and provide an application to Sasakian spin manifolds.
In this paper, we extend the Hijazi inequality, involving the Energy-Momentum tensor, for the eigenvalues of the Dirac operator on $Spin^c$ manifolds without boundary. The limiting case is then studied and an example is given.
In this note we show that every compact spin manifold of dimension $\geq 3$ can be given a Riemannian metric for which a finite part of the spectrum of the Dirac operator consists of arbitrarily prescribed eigenvalues with multiplicity 1.
We show that for a suitable class of ``Dirac-like'' operators there holds a Gluing Theorem for connected sums. More precisely, if $M_1$ and $M_2$ are closed Riemannian manifolds of dimension $n\ge 3$ together with such operators, then the connected sum $M_1 # M_2$ can be given a Riemannian metric such that the spectrum of its associated operator is close to the disjoint union of the spectra of the two original operators. As an application, we show that in dimension $n\equiv 3$ mod 4 harmonic spinors for the Dirac operator of a spin, $\Spinc$, or $\Spinh$ manifold are not topologically obstruct…
Under two boundary conditions, the generalized Atiyah-Patodi-Singer boundary condition and the modified generalized -Atiyah-Patodi-Singer boundary condition, we get the lower bounds for the eigenvalues of the fundamental Dirac operator on compact spin manifolds with nonempty boundary.
We give a lower bound for the eigenvalues of the Dirac operator on a compact domain of a Riemannian spin manifold under the $\MIT$ bag boundary condition. The limiting case is characterized by the existence of an imaginary Killing spinor.
Using Weitzenböck techniques on any compact Riemannian spin manifold we derive inequalities that involve a real parameter and join the eigenvalues of the Dirac operator with curvature terms. The discussion of these inequalities yields vanishing theorems for the kernel of the Dirac operator $D$ and lower bounds for the spectrum of $D^2$ if the curvature satisfies certain conditions.
We consider the Dirac operator on compact quaternionic Kaehler manifolds and prove a lower bound for the spectrum. This estimate is sharp since it is the first eigenvalue of the Dirac operator on the quaternionic projective space.
In this paper, we give an optimal lower bound for the eigenvalues of the basic Dirac operator on a quaternion-Kahler foliation. The limiting case is characterized by the existence of quaternion-Kahler Killing spinors. We end this paper by giving some examples.
Eigenvalue estimate for the Dirac-Witten operator is given on bounded domains (with smooth boundary) of spacelike hypersurfaces satisfying the dominant energy condition, under four natural boundary conditions (MIT, APS, modified APS, and chiral conditions). This result is a generalisation of Friedrich's inequality for the usual Dirac operator. The limiting cases are also investigated.
We prove a new lower bound for the first eigenvalue of the Dirac operator on a compact Riemannian spin manifold by refined Weitzenböck techniques. It applies to manifolds with harmonic curvature tensor and depends on the Ricci tensor. Examples show how it behaves compared to other known bounds.
We give lower bounds for the eigenvalues of the submanifold Dirac operator in terms of intrinsic and extrinsic curvature expressions. We also show that the limiting cases give rise to a class generalizing that of Killing spinors. We conclude by translating these results in terms of intrinsic twisted Dirac operators.
We study some similarities between almost product Riemannian structures and almost Hermitian structures. Inspired by the similarities, we prove lower eigenvalue estimates for the Dirac operator on compact Riemannian spin manifolds with locally product structures. We also provide some examples (limiting manifolds) for the limiting case of the estimates.
We prove new lower bounds for the first eigenvalue of the Dirac operator on compact manifolds whose Weyl tensor or curvature tensor, respectively, is divergence free. In the special case of Einstein manifolds, we obtain estimates depending on the Weyl tensor.
We develop notions of twisted spinor bundle and twisted pre-quantum bundle on quasi-Hamiltonian G-spaces. The main result of this paper is that we construct a Dirac operator with index given by positive energy representation of loop group. This generalizes the quantization of Hamiltonian $G$-spaces to quasi-Hamiltonian G-spaces.
We give a survey of results relating the restricted holonomy of a Riemannian spin manifold with lower bounds on the spectrum of its Dirac operator, giving a new proof of a result originally due to Kirchberg.
We study the Dirac spectrum on compact Riemannian spin manifolds $M$ equipped with a metric connection $\nabla$ with skew torsion $T\inΛ^3 M$ in the situation where the tangent bundle splits under the holonomy of $\nabla$ and the torsion of $\nabla$ is of `split' type. We prove an optimal lower bound for the first eigenvalue of the Dirac operator with torsion that generalizes Friedrich's classical Riemannian estimate.
Let $G/K$ be a simply connected spin compact inner irreducible symmetric space, endowed with the metric induced by the Killing form of $G$ sign-changed. We give a formula for the square of the first eigenvalue of the Dirac operator in terms of a root system of $G$. As an example of application, we give the list of the first eigenvalues for the spin compact irreducible symmetric spaces endowed with a quaternion-Kähler structure.
We show that on every compact spin manifold admitting a Riemannian metric of positive scalar curvature Friedrich's eigenvalue estimate for the Dirac operator can be made sharp up to an arbitrarily small given error by choosing the metric suitably.
We compare the eigenvalues of the Dirac and Laplace operator on a two-dimensional torus with respect to the trivial spin structure. In particular, we compute their variation up to order 4 upon deformation of the flat metric, study the corresponding Hamiltonian and discuss several families of examples.
We derive upper eigenvalue bounds for the Dirac operator of a closed hypersurface in a manifold with Killing spinors such as Euclidean space, spheres or hyperbolic space. The bounds involve the Willmore functional. Relations with the Willmore inequality are briefly discussed. In higher codimension we obtain bounds on the eigenvalues of the Dirac operator of the submanifold twisted with the spinor bundle of the normal bundle.
In this paper, we prove Kirchberg inequalities for any kahler spin foliations. Their limiting cases are then characterized as being transversal minimal Einstein foliations. The key point is to introduce the transversal kahlerian twistor operators.
We record an answer to the question "In which dimensions is the connected sum of two closed almost complex manifolds necessarily an almost complex manifold?". In the process of doing so, we are naturally led to ask "For which values of l is the connected sum of l closed almost complex manifolds necessarily an almost complex manifold?". We answer this question, along with its non-compact analogue, using obstruction theory and Yang's results on the existence of almost complex structures on (n-1)-connected 2n-manifolds. Finally, we partially extend Datta and Subramanian's result on the nonexisten…
