For any integer $d\geq 3$ such that $-d$ is a fundamental discriminant, we show that the Dirichlet $L$-function associated with the real primitive character $χ(\cdot)=(\frac{-d}{\cdot})$ does not vanish on the positive part of the interval $[1-6.5/\sqrt{d},\ 1]. $
We investigate Siegel theta series for quadratic forms of signature $(m-1,1)$. On the one hand, we construct a holomorphic series that does not transform like a modular form. On the other hand, we construct a non-holomorphic series that transforms like a Siegel modular form of weight $m/2$. Moreover, the holomorphic series describes almost everywhere the holomorphic part of the modular series.
We show that the Siegel-Ramachandra invariants could be primitive generators of the ray class fields of imaginary quadratic fields. By using Shimura's reciprocity law we give a modern explanation of the solution of class number one problem given by Heegner and Stark.
Let F be a non-archimedian local field of characteristic 0, and O the ring of integres in F. We give an explicit formula for the Siegel series of a half-integral matrix over O. This formula expresses the Siegel series of a half-integral matrix $B$ explicitly in terms of the Gross-Keating invariant of $B$ and its related invariants.
The modular transformation behavior of theta series for indefinite quadratic forms is well understood in the case of elliptic modular forms due to Vignéras, who deduced that solving a differential equation of second order serves as a criterion for modularity. In this paper, we will give a generalization of this result to Siegel theta series.
We first construct Siegel invariants of some CM-fields in terms of special values of theta constants, which would be a generalization of Siegel-Ramachandra invariants of imaginary quadratic fields. And, we further describe Galois actions on these invariants and provide some numerical examples to show that this invariant really generates the ray class field of a CM-field.
Let $-d$ be a a negative discriminant and let $T$ vary over a set of representatives of the integral equivalence classes of integral binary quadratic forms of discriminant $-d$. We prove an asymptotic formula for $d \to \infty$ for the average over $T$ of the number of representations of $T$ by an integral positive definite quaternary quadratic form and obtain results on averages of Fourier coefficients of linear combinations of Siegel theta series. We also find an asymptotic bound from below on the number of binary forms of fixed discriminant $-d$ which are represented by a given quaternary f…
We show by adopting Schertz's argument with the Siegel-Ramachandra invariant that singular values of certain quotients of the $Δ$-function generate ring class fields over imaginary quadratic fields.
In this paper, we investigate the interplay between positive-definite integral ternary quadratic forms and class numbers. We generalize a result of Jones relating the theta function for the genus of a quadratic form to the Hurwitz class numbers, obtaining an asymptotic formula (with a main term and error term away from finitely many bad square classes $t_j\mathbb{Z}^2$) relating the number of lattices points in a quadratic space of a given norm with a sum of class numbers related to that norm and the squarefree part of the discriminant of the quadratic form on this lattice.
It is known that average Siegel theta series lie in the space of Siegel Eisenstein series. Also, every lattice equipped with an even integral quadratic form lies in a maximal lattice. Here we consider average Siegel theta series of degree 2 attached to maximal lattices; we construct maps for which the average theta series is an eigenform. We evaluate the action of these maps on Siegel Eisenstein series of degree 2 (without knowing their Fourier coefficients), and then realise the average theta series as an explicit linear combination of the Eisenstein series.
We show that if the derivative of the Riemann zeta function has sufficiently many zeros close to the critical line, then the zeta function has many closely spaced zeros. This gives a condition on the zeros of the derivative of the zeta function which implies a lower bound of the class numbers of imaginary quadratic fields.
The aim of this article is to study the derivative of "incoherent" Siegel-Eisenstein series on symplectic groups over function fields. By the Siegel-Weil formula for "coherent" Siegel-Eisenstein series, we can relate the non-singular Fourier coefficients of the derivative in question to the arithmetic of quadratic forms. Restricting to the special case when the incoherent quadratic space has dimension 2, we explicitly compute all the Fourier coefficients, and connect the derivative with the special cycles on the coarse moduli schemes of rank 2 Drinfeld modules with "complex multiplication."
We first generate ray class fields over imaginary quadratic fields in terms of Siegel-Ramachandra invariants, which would be an extension of Schertz's result. And, by making use of quotients of Siegel-Ramachandra invariants we also construct ray class invariants over imaginary quadratic fields whose minimal polynomials have relatively small coefficients, from which we are able to solve certain quadratic Diophantine equations.
We develop a criterion for a normal basis, and prove that the singular values of certain Siegel functions form normal bases of ray class fields over imaginary quadratic fields other than $\mathbb{Q}(\sqrt{-1})$ and $\mathbb{Q}(\sqrt{-3})$. This result would be an answer for the Lang-Schertz conjecture on a ray class field with modulus generated by an integer ($\geq2$).
In this paper, we present a simple analytic proof of Siegel's theorem that concerns the lower bound of $L(1,χ)$ for primitive quadratic $χ$. Our new method compares an elementary lower bound with an analytic upper bound obtained by the inverse Mellin transform of $Γ(s)$.
Let $D<0$ be a fundamental discriminant and denote by $E(D)$ the exponent of the ideal class group $\text{Cl}(D)$ of $K={\mathbb Q}(\sqrt{D})$. Under the assumption that no Siegel zeros exist we compute all such $D$ with $E(D)$ is a divisor of $8$. We compute all $D$ with $|D|\leq 3.1\cdot 10^{20}$ such that $E(D)\leq 8$.
Let q be an integral quadratic form of signature (2,m+2). We will show that the Siegel theta functions attached to q satisfies certain symmetries. As an application, we prove the symmetries for automorphic forms on the orthogonal group of q closely related to Heegener divisors (Borcherds lifts and automorphic Green functions).
The celebrated Riemann-Siegel formula compares the Riemann zeta function on the critical line with its partial sums, expressing the difference between them as an expansion in terms of decreasing powers of the imaginary variable $t$. Siegel anticipated that this formula could be generalized to include the Hardy-Littlewood approximate functional equation, valid in any vertical strip. We give this generalization for the first time. The asymptotics contain Mordell integrals and an interesting new family of polynomials.
In this paper we present an algorithm for computing Hecke eigensystems of Hilbert-Siegel cusp forms over real quadratic fields of narrow class number one. We give some illustrative examples using the quadratic field $\Q(\sqrt{5})$. In those examples, we identify Hilbert-Siegel eigenforms that are possible lifts from Hilbert eigenforms.
Let $K$ be an imaginary quadratic field of discriminant less than or equal to -7 and $K_{(N)}$ be its ray class field modulo $N$ for an integer $N$ greater than 1. We prove that singular values of certain Siegel functions generate $K_{(N)}$ over $K$ by extending the idea of our previous work. These generators are not only the simplest ones conjectured by Schertz, but also quite useful in the matter of computation of class polynomials. We indeed give an algorithm to find all conjugates of such generators by virtue of Gee and Stevenhagen.
We establish large sieve inequalities for power moduli in imaginary quadratic number fields, extending earlier work of Baier and Bansal for the Gaussian field.
The families of simplest cubic, simplest quartic and simplest sextic fields and the related Thue equations are well known. The family of simplest cubic Thue equations was already studied in the relative case, over imaginary quadratic fields. In the present paper we give a similar extension of simplest quartic and simplest sextic Thue equations over imaginary quadratic fields. We explicitly give the solutions of these infinite parametric families of Thue equations over arbitrary imaginary quadratic fields.
A formula for the sum of quadratic residues modulus a prime $p=4n-1$ is studied. We relate some terms on this formula with roots of quadratics and provide an exhaustive analysis of new concepts based on these roots. A number of formulas for the sum of the quadratic residues are obtained. We finalize the paper by obtaining several identities involving $h(-p)$ the class number of the imaginary quadratic field $\mathbb Q(\sqrt{-p}).$
A positive definite Hermitian lattice is said to be 2-universal if it represents all positive definite binary Hermitian lattices. We find all 2-universal ternary and quaternary Hermitian lattices over imaginary quadratic number fields.
The goal is to obtain an asymptotic formula for the number of quadratic extensions with bounded discriminant of a some quadratic number field with odd class number. This extends an already known result for Q.
Let $k \geq 2$ and $N$ be positive integers and let $χ$ be a Dirichlet character modulo $N$. Let $f(z)$ be a modular form in $M_k(Γ_0(N),χ)$. Then we have a unique decomposition $f(z)=E_f(z)+S_f(z)$, where $E_f(z) \in E_k(Γ_0(N),χ)$ and $S_f(z) \in S_k(Γ_0(N),χ)$. In this paper we give an explicit formula for $E_f(z)$ in terms of Eisenstein series. Then we apply our result to certain families of eta quotients and to representations of positive integers by $2k$-ary positive definite quadratic forms in order to give an alternative version of Siegel's formula for the weighted average number of re…
We extend formulae of Mertens and Mirsky on the asymptotic behaviour of the standard Euler function to the Euler functions of principal rings of integers of imaginary quadratic number fields, giving versions in angular sector and with congruences.
In this paper we extend methods of Rubin to prove the Gras conjecture for abelian extensions of a given imaginary quadratic field k and prime numbers p which divide the number of roots of unity in k.
We describe an efficient algorithm to calculate generators of power integral bases in composites of totally real fields with imaginary quadratic fields. We show that the calculation can be reduced to solving index form equations in the original totally real fields. We illustrate our method by investigating monogenity in the infinite parametric family of imaginary quadratic extensions of the simplest quartic fields.
We classify all quadratic imaginary number fields that have a Euclidean ideal class. There are seven of them, they are of class number at most two, and in each case the unique class that generates the class-group is moreover norm-Euclidean.
A formula for the class number $h$ of the imaginary quadratic field $Q(\sqrt{-p}$ is obtained by counting on a specific way the quadratic residues of a prime number of the form $p=4n-1.$ Formulas for the sum of the quadratic residues are also found.
We construct an Euler system attached to a weight 2 modular form twisted by a Groessencharacter of an imaginary quadratic field, and apply this to bounding Selmer groups.
We study an analog of Serre's conjecture over imaginary quadratic fields. In particular, we ask whether the weight recipe of Buzzard, Diamond and Jarvis will hold in this setting. Using a program written by the author, we provide computational evidence that this is in fact the case. In order to justify the method used in the program, we prove that a modular symbols method will work for arbitrary weights over imaginary quadratic fields.
In this paper, we study the moments of central values of Hecke $L$-functions associated with quadratic characters in $\mathbb{Q}(i)$ and $\mathbb{Q}(ω)$ with $ω= exp(2πi/3)$ and establish some quantitative non-vanishing result for these $L$-values.
Let p be an odd prime number. In this paper, we show existence of certain infinite families of imaginary quadratic fields in which p splits and whose Iwasawa λ-invariant of the cyclotomic Zp-extension is equal to 1.
We quantify a recent theorem of Wiles on class numbers of imaginary quadratic fields by proving an estimate for the number of negative fundamental discriminants down to -X whose class numbers are indivisible by a given prime and whose imaginary quadratic fields satisfy any given set of local conditions. This estimate matches the best results in the direction of the Cohen-Lenstra heuristics for the number of imaginary quadratic fields with class number indivisible by a given prime. This general result is applied to study rank 0 twists of certain elliptic curves.
Let $K$ be a non-cylotomic imaginary quadratic field of class number 1 and $E/K$ is an elliptic curve with $E(K)[2]\simeq \mathbb{Z}_1.$ We determine the odd-order torsion groups that can arise as $E(L)_{\text{tor}}$ where $L$ is a quadratic extension of $K.$
Let $K$ be an imaginary quadratic field with discriminant $d_K\leq-7$. We deal with problems of constructing normal bases between abelian extensions of $K$ by making use of singular values of Siegel functions. First, we show that a criterion achieved from the Frobenius determinant relation enables us to find normal bases of ring class fields of orders of bounded conductors depending on $d_K$ over $K$. Next, denoting by $K_{(N)}$ the ray class field modulo $N$ of $K$ for an integer $N\geq2$ we consider the field extension $K_{(p^2m)}/K_{(pm)}$ for a prime $p\geq5$ and an integer $m\geq1$ relati…
In this paper, we prove a one level density result for the low-lying zeros of quadratic Hecke $L$-functions of imaginary quadratic number fields of class number one. As a corollary, we deduce, essentially, that at least $(19-\cot (1/4))/16 = 94.27... \%$ of the $L$-functions under consideration do not vanish at $1/2$.
Let $k$ be an imaginary quadratic number field, and $F/k$ a finite abelian extension of Galois group $G$. We show that a Gross conjecture concerning the leading terms of Artin $L$-series holds for $F/k$ and all rational primes which are split in $k$ and which do not divide $6$.
We present an adaptation of Voronoi theory for imaginary quadratic number fields of class number greater than 1. This includes a characterisation of extreme Hermitian forms which is analogous to the classic characterisation of extreme quadratic forms as well as a version of Voronoi's famous algorithm which may be used to enumerate all perfect Hermitian forms for a given imaginary quadratic number field in dimensions 2 and 3. We also present an application of the algorithm which allows to determine generators of the general linear group of an $Ø_K$-lattice.
In this paper, we will talk about the titled elliptic curve defined over imaginary quadratic fields such as $\mathbb{Q}(\sqrt{-q})$, where $q$ is congruent to 3 modulo 8 and $(p,q)=1$.
The purpose of this article is to give an overview of the series of papers [BK1], [BK2] concerning the $p$-adic Beilinson conjecture of motives associated to Hecke characters of an imaginary quadratic field $K$, for a prime $p$ which splits in $K$.
We apply Tatuzawa's version of Siegel's theorem to derive two lower bounds on the size of the principal genus of positive definite binary quadratic forms.
We prove a non-minimal modularity lifting theorem for ordinary Galois representations over imaginary quadratic fields, conditional on a local-global compatibility conjecture for ordinary torsion classes.
In this work, we compute the perfect forms for all imaginary quadratic fields of absolute discriminant up to $5000$ and study the number and types of the polytopes that arise. We prove a bound on the combinatorial types of polytopes that can arise regardless of discriminant and give a volumetric argument for a lower bound on the number of perfect forms as well as a heuristic for a better lower bound for imaginary quadratic fields of sufficiently large absolute discriminant.
In this paper, I use Siegel-Weil formula and Kudla matching principle to prove some interesting identities between representation number (of ternary quadratic space) and the degree of Heegner divisors.
