It is shown that a 4-recollement of derived categories of CM-finite algebras induces a 2-recollement of the corresponding Cohen-Macaulay Auslander algebras, which generalises the main theorem of Pan [S. Y. Pan, Derived equivalences for Cohen-Macaulay Auslander algebras, J. Pure Appl. Algebra 216 (2012), 355{363]. Moreover, both Auslander- Reiten conjecture and Gorenstein projective conjecture are shown invariant under 3 (or 4)-recollement of unbounded derived categories of algebras.
Let $A$, $B$ and $C$ be associative rings with identity. Using a result of Koenig we show that if we have a $\mathbb{D}^{\rm{b}}({\rm{mod\mbox{-}}} )$ level recollement, writing $A$ in terms of $B$ and $C$, then we get a $\mathbb{D}^-({\rm{Mod\mbox{-}}} )$ level recollement of certain functor categories, induces from the module categories of $A$, $B$ and $C$. As an application, we generalise the main theorem of Pan [Sh. Pan, Derived equivalences for Cohen-Macaulay Auslander algebras, J. Pure Appl. Algebra, 216 (2012), 355-363] in terms of recollements of Gorenstein artin algebras. Moreover, we…
The Defect Recollement, Restriction Recollement, Auslander-Gruson-Jensen Recollement, and others, are shown to be instances of a general construction using derived functors and methods from stable module theory. The right derived functors $\textsf{W}_k:=R_k(\hspace{0.05cm}\underline{\ \ }\hspace{0.1cm} )^*$ are computed and it is shown that the functor $\textsf{W}_2:=R_2(\hspace{0.05cm}\underline{\ \ }\hspace{0.1cm} )^*$ is right exact and restricts to a duality $\textsf{W}$ of the defect zero functors. The duality $\textsf{W}$ satisfies two identities which we call the Generalised Auslander-R…
We study the homotopy category of unbounded complexes with bounded homologies and its quotient category by the homotopy category of bounded complexes. We show the existence of a recollement of the above quotient category and it has the homotopy category of acyclic complxes as a triangulated subcategory. In the case of the homotopy category of finitely generated projective modules over an Iwanaga-Gorenstein ring, we show that the above quotient category are triangle equivalent to the stable module category of Cohen-Macaulay $\opn{T}_2(R)$-modules.
For any gentle algebra $Λ=KQ/\langle I\rangle$, following Kalck, we describe the quiver and the relations for its Cohen-Macaulay Auslander algebra $\mathrm{Aus}(\mathrm{Gproj}Λ)$ explicitly, and obtain some properties, such as $Λ$ is representation-finite if and only if $\mathrm{Aus}(\mathrm{Gproj}Λ)$ is; if $Q$ has no loop and any indecomposable $Λ$-module is uniquely determined by its dimension vector, then any indecomposable $\mathrm{Aus}(\mathrm{Gproj}Λ)$-module is uniquely determined by its dimension vector.
Cohen-Macaulay Auslander algebras are the endomorphism algebras of representation generators of the subcategory of Gorenstein projective modules over $\rm{CM}$-finite algebras. In this paper, we study Cohen-Macaulay Auslander algebras over $1$-Gorenstein algebras and $Ω_{\mathcal{G}}$-algebras. $1$-Gorenstein algebras are those of algebras with global Gorenstein projective dimension at most one and $Ω_{\mathcal{G}}$-algebras are a class of algebras introduced in this paper, including some important class of algebras for example Gentle algebras and more generally quadratic monomial algebras. It…
Recently, Wang, Wei and Zhang introduced the notion of recollements of extriangulated categories. In this paper, let $(\mathcal{A},\mathcal{B},\mathcal{C})$ be a recollement of extriangulated categories. We provide some methods to construct resolving subcategories in $(\mathcal{A},\mathcal{B},\mathcal{C})$. As applications of the Auslander-Reiten correspondence, we get the gluing of cotilting modules in a recollement of module categories for artin algebras. We also give some bounds of resolution dimensions of the categories involved in $(\mathcal{A},\mathcal{B},\mathcal{C})$ with respect to re…
Relative Auslander algebras were introduced and studied by Beligiannis. In this paper, we apply intermediate extension functors associated to certain recollements of functor categories to study them. In particular, we study the existence of tilting-cotilting modules over such algebras. As a consequence, it will be shown that two Gorenstein algebras of G-dimension 1 being of finite Cohen-Macaulay type are Morita equivalent if and only if their Cohen-Macaulay Auslander algebras are Morita equivalent.
The Cohen-Macaulay Auslander algebra of any string algebra is explicitly constructed in this paper. Furthermore, we show that a class of special string algebras, which are called to be string algebras with G-condition, are representation-finite if and only if their Cohen-Macaulay Auslander algebras are representation-finite. Finally, the self-injective dimension of gentle algebras is characterized using their Cohen-Macaulay Auslander algebras.
Let $A$ and $B$ be Gorenstein Artin algebras of Cohen-Macaulay finite type. We prove that, if $A$ and $B$ are derived equivalent, then their Cohen-Macaulay Auslander algebras are also derived equivalent.
Let $\text{Gprj}\mbox{-}Λ$ denote the category of Gorenstein projective modules over an Artin algebra $Λ$ and the category $\text{mod}\mbox{-} (\underline{\text{Gprj}}\mbox{-}Λ)$ of finitely presented functors over the stable category $\underline{\text{Gprj}}\mbox{-}Λ$. In this paper, we study those algebras $Λ$ with $\text{mod}\mbox{-} (\underline{\text{Gprj}}\mbox{-}Λ)$ to be a semisimple abelian category, and called $Ω_{\mathcal{G}}$-algebras. The class of $Ω_{\mathcal{G}}$-algebras contains important classes of algebras, including gentle algebras. Over an $Ω_{\mathcal{G}}$-algebra $Λ$, the…
According to the Auslander's formula one way of studying an abelian category ${\mathcal{C}}$ is to study ${\rm mod}\mbox{-}{\mathcal{C}}$, that has nicer homological properties than ${\mathcal{C}}$, and then translate the results back to ${\mathcal{C}}$. Recently Krause gave a derived version of this formula and thus renewed the subject. This paper contains a detailed study of various versions of Auslander formula including the versions for all modules and for unbounded derived categories. We apply them to include some results concerning recollements of triangulated categories.
We construct two functors from the submodule category of a self-injective representation-finite algebra $Λ$ to the module category of the stable Auslander algebra of $Λ$. These functors factor through the module category of the Auslander algebra of $Λ$. Moreover they induce equivalences from the quotient categories of the submodule category modulo their respective kernels and said kernels have finitely many indecomposable objects up to isomorphism. Their construction uses a recollement of the module category of the Auslander algebra induced by an idempotent and this recollement determines a ch…
Auslander-Reiten conjecture, which says that an Artin algebra does not have any non-projective generator with vanishing self-extensions in all positive degrees, is shown to be invariant under certain singular equivalences induced by adjoint pairs, which occur often in matrix algebras, recollements and change of rings. Accordingly, several reduction methods are established to study this conjecture.
We study the converse of a theorem of Butler and Auslander-Reiten. We show that a Cohen-Macaulay local ring with an isolated singularity has only finitely many isomorphism classes of indecomposable summands of syzygies of Cohen-Macaulay modules if the Auslander-Reiten sequences generate the relation of the Grothendieck group of finitely generated modules. This extends a recent result of Hiramatsu, which gives an affirmative answer in the Gorenstein case to a conjecture of Auslander.
Relations between Gorenstein derived categories, Gorenstein defect categories and Gorenstein stable categories are established. Using these, the Gorensteinness of an algebra $A$ and invariants with respect to recollements of the bounded Gorenstein derived category $D^{b}_{gp}(A\mbox{-}{\rm mod})$ of $A$ are investigated. Specifically, the Gorensteinness of $A$ is characterized in three ways: the existence of Auslander-Reiten triangles in $D^{b}_{gp}(A\mbox{-}{\rm mod})$; recollements of $D^{b}_{gp}(A\mbox{-}{\rm mod})$; and also Gorenstein derived equivalences. It is shown that the finiteness …
In this work, we develop the theory of $k$-idempotent ideals in the setting of dualizing varieties. Several results given previously in \cite{APG} by M. Auslander, M. I. Platzeck, and G. Todorov are extended to this context. Given an ideal $\mathcal{I}$ (which is the trace of a projective module), we construct a canonical recollement which is the analog to a well-known recollement in categories of modules over artin algebras. Moreover, we study the homological properties of the categories involved in such a recollement. Consequently, we find conditions on the ideal $\mathcal{I}$ to obtain quas…
Auslander-Reiten theory is fundamental to study categories which appear in representation theory, for example, modules over artin algebras, Cohen-Macaulay modules over Cohen-Macaulay rings, lattices over orders, and coherent sheaves on projective curves. In these Auslander-Reiten theories, the number `2' is quite symbolic. For one thing, almost split sequences give minimal projective resolutions of simple functors of projective dimension `2'. For another, Cohen-Macaulay rings of Krull-dimension `2' provide us with one of the most beautiful situation in representation theory, which is closely r…
One of the first remarkable results in the representation theory of artin algebras, due to Auslander and Ringel-Tachikawa, is the characterization of when an artin algebra is representation-finite. In this paper, we investigate aspects of representation-finiteness in the general context of exact categories in the sense of Quillen. In this framework, we introduce "big objects" and prove an Auslander-type "splitting-big-objects" theorem. Our approach generalises and unifies the known results from the literature. As a further application of our methods, we extend the theorems of Auslander and Rin…
By Auslander's algebraic McKay correspondence, the stable category of Cohen-Macaulay modules over a simple singularity is equivalent to the $1$-cluster category of the path algebra of a Dynkin quiver (i.e. the orbit category of the derived category by the action of the Auslander-Reiten translation). In this paper we give a systematic method to construct a similar type of triangle equivalence between the stable category of Cohen-Macaulay modules over a Gorenstein isolated singularity $R$ and the generalized (higher) cluster category of a finite dimensional algebra $Λ$. The key role is played by…
We introduce the notion of mutation of $n$-cluster tilting subcategories in a triangulated category with Auslander-Reiten-Serre duality. Using this idea, we are able to obtain the complete classifications of rigid Cohen-Macaulay modules over certain Veronese subrings.
This paper studies the relationship between Serre's condition $(\R_n)$ and Auslander--Buchweitz's maximal Cohen--Macaulay approximations. It is proved that a Gorenstein local ring satisfies $(\R_n)$ if and only if every maximal Cohen--Macaulay module is a direct summand of a maximal Cohen--Macaulay approximation of a (Cohen--Macaulay) module of codimension $n+1$.
Given an artin algebra $Λ$ with an idempotent element $a$ we compare the algebras $Λ$ and $aΛa$ with respect to Gorensteinness, singularity categories and the finite generation condition Fg for the Hochschild cohomology. In particular, we identify assumptions on the idempotent element $a$ which ensure that $Λ$ is Gorenstein if and only if $aΛa$ is Gorenstein, that the singularity categories of $Λ$ and $aΛa$ are equivalent and that Fg holds for $Λ$ if and only if Fg holds for $aΛa$. We approach the problem by using recollements of abelian categories and we prove the results concerning Gorenstei…
Let $R$ be a complete local Gorenstein ring of dimension one, with maximal ideal m. We show that if $M$ is a Cohen-Macaulay $R$-module which begins an AR-sequence, then this sequence is produced by a particular endomorphism of m corresponding to a minimal prime ideal. We apply this result to determining the shape of some components of Auslander-Reiten quivers.
A classical formula for the Auslander-Reiten translate $τ$ says that $τ(M)\cong νΩ^2(M)$ for every indecomposable module $M$ of a selfinjective Artin algebra. We generalise this by showing that for a $2d$-periodic isolated singularity $A$ of Krull dimension $d$, we have for the Auslander-Reiten translate of an indecomposable non-projective Cohen-Macaulay $A$-module $M$, $τ(M)\cong νΩ^{d+2}(M)$ if and only if $Ext_A^{d+1}(M,A)=Ext_A^{d+2}(M,A)=0$. We give several applications for Artin algebras.
We characterize the syzygies and co-syzygies over 2-Calabi-Yau tilted algebras in terms of the Auslander-Reiten translation and the syzygy functor. We explore connections between the category of syzygies, the category of Cohen-Macaulay modules, the representation dimension of algebras and the Igusa-Todorov functions. In particular, we prove that the Igusa-Todorov dimensions of d-Gorenstein algebras are equal to d. For cluster-tilted algebras of Dynkin type D, we give a geometric description of the stable Cohen-Macaulay category in terms of tagged arcs in the punctured disc. We also describe th…
The notion of $F$-signature is defined by C. Huneke and G. Leuschke and this numerical invariant characterizes some singularities. This notion is extended to finitely generated modules and called dual $F$-signature. In this paper, we determine the dual $F$-signature of a certain class of Cohen-Macaulay modules (so-called "special") over cyclic quotient surface singularities. Also, we compare the dual $F$-signature of a special Cohen-Macaulay module with that of its Auslander-Reiten translation. This gives a new characterization of the Gorensteiness.
Following [20], a desingularization of arbitrary quiver Grassmannians for finite dimensional Gorenstein projective modules of 1-Gorenstein gentle algebras is constructed in terms of quiver Grassmannians for their Cohen-Macaulay Auslander algebras.
We study Artin algebras $A$ and commutative Noetherian complete local rings $R$ in connection with the following decomposition property of Gorenstein-projective modules: $(*)$ any Gorenstein-projective module is a direct sum of finitely generated modules. We show that this direct decomposition property is related to the property of the algebra $A$, or the ring $R$, being (virtually) Gorenstein of finite Cohen-Macaquly type. Along the way we generalize classical results of Auslander and Ringel-Tachikawa from the early seventies, and results of Chen and Yoshino on the structure of Gorenstein-pro…
The category of Cohen-Macaulay modules of an algebra $B_{k,n}$ is used [JKS16] to give an additive categorification of the cluster algebra structure on the homogeneous coordinate ring of the Grassmannian of $k$-planes in $n$-space. In this paper, we find canonical Auslander--Reiten sequences and study the Auslander--Reiten translation periodicity for this category. Furthermore, we give an explicit construction of Cohen-Macaulay modules of arbitrary rank. We then use our results to establish a correspondence between rigid indecomposable modules of rank 2 and real roots of degree 2 for the assoc…
In this paper we completely classify all the special Cohen-Macaulay (=CM) modules corresponding to the exceptional curves in the dual graph of the minimal resolutions of all two dimensional quotient singularities. In every case we exhibit the specials explicitly in a combinatorial way. Our result relies on realizing the specials as those CM modules whose first Ext group vanishes against the ring R, thus reducing the problem to combinatorics on the AR quiver; such possible AR quivers were classified by Auslander and Reiten. We also give some general homological properties of the special CM modu…
We shall show that the stable categories of graded Cohen-Macaulay modules over quotient singularities have tilting objects. In particular, these categories are triangle equivalent to derived categories of finite dimensional algebras. Our method is based on higher dimensional Auslander-Reiten theory, which gives cluster tilting objects in the stable categories of (ungraded) Cohen-Macaulay modules.
In this paper we show that how the representation theory of subcategories (of the category of modules over an Artin algebra) can be connected to the representation theory of all modules over some algebra. The subcategories dealing with are some certain subcategories of the morphism categories (including submodule categories studied recently by Ringel and Schmidmeier) and of the Gorenstein projective modules over (relative) stable Auslander algebras. These two kinds of subcategories, as will be seen, are closely related to each other. To make such a connection, we will define a functor from eac…
We introduce a new invariant for subcategories X of finitely generated modules over a local ring R which we call the radius of X. We show that if R is a complete intersection and X is resolving, then finiteness of the radius forces X to contain only maximal Cohen-Macaulay modules. We also show that the category of maximal Cohen-Macaulay modules has finite radius when R is a Cohen-Macaulay complete local ring with perfect coefficient field. We link the radius to many well-studied notions such as the dimension of the stable category of maximal Cohen-Macaulay modules, finite/countable Cohen-Macau…
Let R be a Cohen-Macaulay ring and M a maximal Cohen-Macaulay R-module. Inspired by recent striking work by Iyama, Burban-Iyama-Keller-Reiten and Van den Bergh we study the question of when the endomorphism ring of M has finite global dimension via certain conditions about vanishing of $\Ext$ modules. We are able to strengthen certain results by Iyama on connections between a higher dimension version of Auslander correspondence and existence of non-commutative crepant resolutions. We also recover and extend to positive characteristics a recent Theorem by Burban-Iyama-Keller-Reiten on cluster-t…
Given an algebra with an idempotent, we introduce two procedures to construct families of new algebras, termed mirror-reflective algebras and reduced mirror-reflective algebras. We then establish connections among these algebras by recollements of derived module categories. In case of given algebras being gendo-symmetric, we show that the (reduced) mirror-reflective algebras are symmetric and provide new methods to construct systematically both higher dimensional (minimal) Auslander-Gorenstein algebras and gendo-symmetric algebras of higher dominant dimensions. This leads to a new formulation …
Let $A=KQ_A/I_A$ and $B=KQ_B/I_B$ be two finite-dimensional bound quiver algebras, fix two vertices $a\in Q_A$ and $b\in Q_B$. We define an algebra $Λ=KQ_Λ/I_Λ$, which is called a simple gluing algebra of $A$ and $B$, where $Q_Λ$ is from $Q_A$ and $Q_B$ by identifying $a$ and $b$, $I_Λ=\langle I_A,I_B\rangle$. We prove that $Λ$ is Gorenstein if and only if $A$ and $B$ are Gorenstein, and describe the Gorenstein projective modules, singularity category, Gorenstein defect category and also Cohen-Macaulay Auslander algebra of $Λ$ from the corresponding ones of $A$ and $B$.
In this paper, we introduce the class of Cohen-Macaulay (=CM) dg (=differential graded) modules over Gorenstein dg algebras and study their basic properties. We show that the category of CM dg modules forms a Frobenius extriangulated category, in the sense of Nakaoka and Palu, and it admits almost split extensions. We also study representation-finite $d$-self-injective dg algebras $A$ in detail. In particular, we classify the Auslander-Reiten (=AR) quivers of CM $A$ for those $A$ in terms of $(-d)$-Calabi-Yau (=CY) configurations, which are Riedtmann's configuration for the case $d=1$. For any…
We introduce (n+1)-preprojective algebras of algebras of global dimension n. We show that if an algebra is n-representation-finite then its (n+1)-preprojective algebra is self-injective. In this situation, we show that the stable module category of the (n+1)-preprojective algebra is (n+1)-Calabi-Yau, and, more precisely, it is the (n+1)-Amiot cluster category of the stable n-Auslander algebra of the original algebra. In particular this stable category contains an (n+1)-cluster tilting object. We show that even if the (n+1)-preprojective algebra is not self-injective, under certain assumptions …
Let R be a commutative noetherian local ring. As an analogue of the notion of the dimension of a triangulated category defined by Rouquier, the notion of the dimension of a subcategory of finitely generated R-modules is introduced in this paper. We found evidence that certain categories over nice singularities have small dimensions. When R is Cohen-Macaulay, under a mild assumption it is proved that finiteness of the dimension of the full subcategory consisting of maximal Cohen-Macaulay modules which are locally free on the punctured spectrum is equivalent to saying that R is an isolated singu…
We give a result of Auslander-Ringel-Tachikawa type for Gorenstein-projective modules over a complete Gorenstein order. In particular, we prove that a complete Gorenstein order is of finite Cohen-Macaulay representation type if and only if every indecomposable pure-injective object in the stable category of Gorenstein-projective modules is compact.
Weighted projective lines, introduced by Geigle and Lenzing in 1987, are important objects in representation theory. They have tilting bundles, whose endomorphism algebras are the canonical algebras introduced by Ringel. The aim of this paper is to study their higher dimensional analogs. First, we introduce a certain class of commutative Gorenstein rings $R$ graded by abelian groups $L$ of rank $1$, which we call Geigle-Lenzing complete intersections. We study the stable category of Cohen-Macaulay representations $CM^LR$, which coincides with the singularity category $D_{sg}^L(R)$. We show tha…
We give sufficient conditions for a Frobenius category to be equivalent to the category of Gorenstein projective modules over an Iwanaga-Gorenstein ring. We then apply this result to the Frobenius category of special Cohen-Macaulay modules over a rational surface singularity, where we show that the associated stable category is triangle equivalent to the singularity category of a certain discrepant partial resolution of the given rational singularity. In particular, this produces uncountably many Iwanaga-Gorenstein rings of finite GP type. We also apply our method to representation theory, obt…
Let $\mathcal{A}$ be an abelian category. For a pair $(\mathcal{X},\mathcal{Y}$ of classes of objects in $\mathcal{A},$ we define the weak and the $(\mathcal{X},\mathcal{Y})$-Gorenstein relative projective objects in $\mathcal{A}$. We point out that such objects generalize the usual Gorenstein projective objects and others generalizations appearing in the literature as Ding-projective, Ding-injective, $\mathcal{X}$-Gorenstein projective, Gorenstein AC-projective and $G_C$-projective modules and Cohen-Macaulay objects in abelian categories. We show that the principal results on Gorenstein proje…
