In paired Fermi systems, strong many-body effects exhibit in the crossover regime between the Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer (BCS) and the Bose-Einstein condensation (BEC) limits. The concept of the BCS-BEC crossover, which is studied intensively in the research field of cold atoms, has been extended to condensed matters. Here, by analyzing the typical superconductors within the BCS-BEC phase diagram, we find that FeSe-based superconductors are prone to shift their positions in the BCS-BEC crossover regime by charge doping or substrate substitution, since their Fermi energies and the superconducting gap sizes are comparable. Especially at the interface of a single-layer FeSe on SrTiO3 substrate, the superconductivity is relocated closer to the crossover unitary than other doped FeSe-based materials, indicating that the pairing interaction is effectively modulated. We further show that hole-doping can drive the interfacial system into the phase with possible pre-paired electrons, demonstrating its flexible tunability within the BCS-BEC crossover regime.
The physics of the crossover between weak-coupling Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer (BCS) and strong-coupling Bose-Einstein-condensate (BEC) limits gives a unified framework of quantum bound (superfluid) states of interacting fermions. This crossover has been studied in the ultracold atomic systems, but is extremely difficult to be realized for electrons in solids. Recently, the superconducting semimetal FeSe with a transition temperature $T_{\rm c}=8.5$ K has been found to be deep inside the BCS-BEC crossover regime. Here we report experimental signatures of preformed Cooper pairing in FeSe below $T…
FeSe is argued as a superconductor in the Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer Bose-Einstein-condensation crossover regime where the superconducting-gap size and the superconducting transition temperature Tc are comparable to the Fermi energy. In this regime, vortex bound states should be well quantized and the preformed pairs above Tc may yield a pseudogap in the quasiparticle-excitation spectrum. We performed spectroscopic-imaging scanning tunneling microscopy to search for these features. We found Friedel-like oscillations near the vortex, which manifest the quantized levels, whereas the pseudogap was…
The films of FeSe on substrates have attracted attention because of their unusually high-temperature (Tc) superconducting properties whose origins continue to be debated. To disentangle the competing effects of the substrate and interlayer and intralayer processes, we present here results of density functional theory (DFT)-based analysis of the electronic structure of unsupported FeSe films consisting of 1 to 5 layers (1L-5L). Furthermore, by solving the Bardeen-Schrieffer-Cooper (BCS) equation with spin-wave exchange attraction derived from the Hubbard model, we find the superconducting criti…
In conventional superconductors, very narrow superconducting fluctuation regions are observed above $T_c$ because of the strong overlapping of Cooper pairs in a coherence volume. In the bulk form of iron chalcogenide superconductor FeSe, it is argued that the system may locate in the crossover region of BCS to BEC, indicating a strong superconducting fluctuation. In this respect, we have carried out measurements of magnetization, specific heat and Nernst effect on FeSe single crystals in order to investigate the superconducting fluctuation effect near $T_c$. The region of diamagnetization indu…
There is growing evidence that the superconducting semimetal FeSe ($T_c\sim8$ K) is in the crossover regime between weak-coupling Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer (BCS) and strong-coupling Bose-Einstein-condensate (BEC) limits. We report on longitudinal and transverse thermal conductivities, $κ_{xx}$ and $κ_{xy}$, respectively, in magnetic fields up to 20 T. The field dependences of $κ_{xx}$ and $κ_{xy}$ imply that a highly anisotropic small superconducting gap forms at the electron Fermi-surface pocket whereas a more isotropic and larger gap forms at the hole pocket. Below $\sim1.0$ K, both $κ_{xx}$…
We investigated the superconducting fluctuation in FeSe, which is assumed to be located in the BCS--BEC crossover region, via magnetic torque measurements. In our method, the absolute cantilever displacement is measured by detecting the interference intensity of the Fabry--Perot cavity formed between the cantilever and optical fiber. Our findings are totally different from the results of the previous torque magnetometry using a piezoresistive cantilever; the "giant" fluctuation diamagnetism related to the BCS--BEC crossover does not exist. Instead, a considerably smaller fluctuation signal ori…
Fermi systems in the crossover regime between weakly coupled Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer (BCS) and strongly coupled Bose-Einstein-condensate (BEC) limits are among the most fascinating objects to study the behavior of an assembly of strongly interacting particles. The physics of this crossover has been of considerable interest both in the fields of condensed matter and ultracold atoms. One of the most challenging issue in this regime is the effect of large spin imbalance on a Fermi system under magnetic fields. Although several exotic physical properties have been predicted theoretically, the ex…
We present resistivity and thermal-conductivity measurements of superconducting FeSe in intense magnetic fields up to 35 T applied parallel to the $ab$ plane. At low temperatures, the upper critical field $μ_0 H_{c2}^{ab}$ shows an anomalous upturn, while thermal conductivity exhibits a discontinuous jump at $μ_0 H^{\ast}\approx 24$ T well below $μ_0 H_{c2}^{ab}$, indicating a first-order phase transition in the superconducting state. This demonstrates the emergence of a distinct field-induced superconducting phase. Moreover, the broad resistive transition at high temperatures abruptly becomes…
A number of recent experiments indicate that the iron-chalcogenide FeSe provides the long-sought possibility to study bulk superconductivity in the cross-over regime between the weakly coupled Bardeen--Cooper--Schrieffer (BCS) pairing and the strongly coupled Bose--Einstein condensation (BEC). We report on $^{77}$Se nuclear magnetic resonance experiments of FeSe, focused on the superconducting phase for strong magnetic fields applied along the $c$ axis, where a distinct state with large spin polarization was reported. We determine this high-field state as bulk superconducting with high spatial…
High-temperature superconductivity and a wide variety of exotic superconducting states discovered in FeSe-based materials have been at the frontier of research on condensed matter physics over the past decade. Unique properties originating from the multiband electronic structure, strongly orbital-dependent phenomena, extremely small Fermi energy, electronic nematicity, and topological aspects give rise to many distinct and fascinating superconducting states. Here, we provide an overview of our current understanding of the superconductivity of {\it bulk} FeSe-based materials, focusing on FeSe a…
Bulk FeSe is superconducting with a critical temperature $T_c$ $\cong$ 8 K and SrTiO$_3$ is insulating in nature, yet high-temperature superconductivity has been reported at the interface between a single-layer FeSe and SrTiO$_3$. Angle resolved photoemission spectroscopy and scanning tunneling microscopy measurements observe a gap opening at the Fermi surface below $\approx$ 60 K. Elucidating the microscopic properties and understanding the pairing mechanism of single-layer FeSe is of utmost importance as it is a basic building block of iron-based superconductors. Here, we use the low-energy …
We measured the electronic-structure of FeSe_xTe_1-x above and below Tc. In the normal state we find multiple bands with remarkably small values for the Fermi energy, E_F. Yet,below Tc we find a superconducting gap, Delta, that is comparable in size to E_F, leading to a ratio Delta/E_F~0.5 that is much larger than found in any previously studied superconductor. We also observe an anomalous dispersion of the coherence peak which is very similar to the dispersion found in cold Fermi-gas experiments and which is consistent with the predictions of the BCS-BEC crossover theory.
Effects of superconducting fluctuation (SCF) on thermodynamic properties of electron systems in the so-called BCS-BEC-crossover regime are studied. As the attractive interaction between electrons becomes stronger upon approaching the BCS-BEC-crossover regime, importance of the mode coupling between SCF drastically increases. The enhanced mode coupling leads to lowering of both the zero-field superconducting critical temperature and the depairing field $B_\text{c2} (T)$. Consequently, SCF-induced contributions to the specific heat and the diamagnetic susceptibility can seemingly exceed the corr…
A huge enhancement of the superconducting transition temperature Tc was observed in tetragonal FeSe superconductor under high pressure. The onset temperature became as high as 27 K at 1.48 GPa and the pressure coefficient showed a huge value of 9.1 K/GPa. The upper critical field Hc2 was estimated to be ~ 72 T at 1.48 GPa. Because of the high Hc2, FeSe system may be a candidate for application as superconducting wire rods. Moreover, the investigation of superconductivity on simple structured FeSe may provide important clues to the mechanism of superconductivity in iron-based superconductors.
We calculate RPA-BCS based spin resonance spectra of newly discovered iron-selenide superconductor using two orbitals tight-binding (TB) model. The slightly squarish electron pocket Fermi surfaces (FSs) at $(π,0)/(0,π)-$momenta produce leading interpocket nesting instability at incommensurate vector $q\sim(π,0.5π)$ in the normal state static susceptibility, pinning a strong stripe-like spin-density wave (SDW) or antiferromagnetic (AFM) order at some critical value of $U$. The same nesting also induces $d_{x^2-y^2}-$pairing. The superconducting (SC) gap is nodeless and isotropic on the FSs as t…
We report microwave surface impedances of FeSe$_{0.4}$Te$_{0.6}$ single crystals measured at 12, 19, and 44 GHz. The penetration depth exhibits a power law behavior, $δλ_L=λ_L (T)-λ_L (0) \propto CT^n$ with an exponent $n\simeq 2$, which is considered to result from impurity scattering. This behavior is consistent with $s\pm$-wave pairing symmetry. The temperature dependence of the superfluid density largely deviates from the behavior expected in the BCS theory. We believe that this deviation is caused by the crossover from the dirty regime near $T_c$ to the clean regime at low temperatures, w…
Bulk FeSe is a special iron-based material in which superconductivity emerges inside a well-developed nematic phase. We present a microscopic model for this nematic superconducting state, which takes into account the mixing between $s-$wave and $d-$wave pairing channels and the changes in the orbital spectral weight promoted by the sign-changing nematic order parameter. We show that nematicity gives rise to a $\cos2θ$ variation of the pairing gap on the hole pocket that agrees with ARPES and STM data for experimentally-extracted Fermi surface parameters. We further argue that, in BCS theory, $…
We investigate the dynamical effects of pairing interaction on superconductivity in BCS-BEC crossover by studying the Holstein model at half-filling where the electron-phonon coupling $g$ controls the crossover. The dynamical mean-field theory was employed in combination with the numerical renormalization group technique. The dynamical effects induce distinct features such as absenceof the dispersion back-bending of Bogoliubov quasi-particles, non-monotonous coupling dependence of the pairing gap, and the soft phonon spectrum due to the Goldstone mode of local pair phase fluctuations. Also int…
Unlike the parent phases of the iron-arsenide high Tc superconductors, undoped FeSe is not magnetically ordered and exhibits superconductivity with Tc~9K. Equally surprising is the fact that applied pressure dramatically enhances the modest Tc to ~37K. We investigate the electronic properties of FeSe using 77Se NMR to search for the key to the superconducting mechanism. We demonstrate that the electronic properties of FeSe are very similar to those of electron-doped FeAs superconductors, and that antiferromagnetic spin fluctuations are strongly enhanced near Tc. Furthermore, applied pressure e…
The discovery of superconductivity in alkali-ammonia co-intercalated FeSe has generated intensive interest because of their highest Tc (~ 45 K) among iron-chalcogenide superconductors with bulk form. Here, we report the phase diagrams of two series of Li/Na-ammonia co-intercalated FeSe1-zTez. When superconductivity is suppressed by Te doping, the magnetic ordering states are emergent. Moreover, a novel phase Lix(NH3)yFe2-δTe2 with possible antiferromagnetism is discovered. This strongly indicates the intimate relation between superconductivity and magnetism in these materials, like in other ir…
By means of space-group symmetry arguments, we argue that the electronic pairing in iron-based high temperature superconductors shows a structure which is a linear combination of planar s-wave and d-wave symmetry channels, both preserving the 3-dimensional A_1g irreducible representation of the corresponding crystal point-group. We demonstrate that the s- and d-wave channels are determined by the parity under reflection of the electronic orbitals through the iron planes, and by improper rotations around the iron sites. We provide evidence of these general properties by performing accurate quan…
FeSe is a unique member of the family of iron-based superconductors, not only because of the high values of $T_{c}$ in FeSe monolayer, but also because in bulk FeSe superconductivity emerges inside a nematic phase without competing with long-range magnetic order. Near $T_{c}$, superconducting order necessarily has $s+d$ symmetry, because nematic order couples linearly the $s$-wave and $d$-wave harmonics of the superconducting order parameter. Here we argue that the near-degeneracy between $s$-wave and $d$-wave pairing instabilities in FeSe, combined with the sign-change of the nematic order pa…
The single-layer FeSe films grown on SrTiO3 (STO) substrates have attracted much attention because of its record high superconducting critical temperature (Tc). It is usually believed that the composition of the epitaxially grown single-layer FeSe/STO films is stoichiometric, i.e., the ratio of Fe and Se is 1:1. Here we report the identification of a large amount of excess Fe in the superconducting single-layer FeSe/STO films. By depositing Se onto the superconducting single-layer FeSe/STO films, we find by in situ scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) the formation of the second-layer FeSe isla…
We report the superconductivity evolution of one unit cell (1-UC) and 2-UC FeSe films on SrTiO3(001) substrates with potassium (K) adsorption. By in situ scanning tunneling spectroscopy measurement, we find that the superconductivity in 1-UC FeSe films is continuously suppressed with increasing K coverage, whereas non-superconducting 2-UC FeSe films become superconducting with a gap of ~17 meV or ~11 meV depending on whether the underlying 1-UC films are superconducting or not. This work explicitly reveals that the interface electron-phonon coupling is strongly related to the charge transfer a…
Iron selenide (FeSe) is an iron-based superconductor which shows unique properties, including strongly anisotropic superconducting gap, paramagnetism in undoped compound and extremely small Fermi pocket size. In this work, we demonstrate that the sizes of electron and hole pockets in FeSe monolayer become much smaller than those in bulk. The Fermi energy is in the order of a few meV and can be fine-tuned by the thickness of graphene layers underneath. Despite the low carrier density, the FeSe monolayers grown on trilayer or multi-layer graphene are superconducting. The superconducting gap size…
The single-layer FeSe/SrTiO3 (FeSe/STO) films have attracted much attention because of their simple crystal structure, distinct electronic structure and record high superconducting transition temperature (Tc). The origin of the dramatic Tc enhancement in single-layer FeSe/STO films and the dichotomy of superconductivity between single-layer and multiple-layer FeSe/STO films are still under debate. Here we report a comprehensive high resolution angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy and scanning tunneling microscopy/spectroscopy measurements on the electronic structure evolution with doping …
We report on the emergence of two disconnected superconducting domes in alkali-metal potassium (K)-doped FeSe ultra-thin films grown on graphitized SiC(0001). The superconductivity exhibits hypersensitivity to K dosage in the lower-Tc dome, whereas in the heavily electron-doped higher-Tc dome it becomes spatially homogeneous and robust against disorder, supportive of a conventional Cooper-pairing mechanism. Furthermore, the heavily K-doped multilayer FeSe films all reveal a large superconducting gap of ~ 14 meV, irrespective of film thickness, verifying the higher-Tc superconductivity only in …
Iron-based superconductors are well known for their complex interplay between structure, magnetism and superconductivity. FeSe offers a particularly fascinating example. This material has been intensely discussed because of its extended nematic phase, whose relationship with magnetism is not obvious. Superconductivity in FeSe is highly tunable, with the superconducting transition temperature, $T_\mathrm{c}$, ranging from 8 K in bulk single crystals at ambient pressure to almost 40 K under pressure or in intercalated systems, and to even higher temperatures in thin films. In this topical review…
Since the dramatic interface enhancement of superconducting transition temperature (Tc) was reported in one unit-cell FeSe film grown on SrTiO3 substrate (1-UC FeSe/STO) by molecular beam epitaxy (MBE), related research on this system has become a new frontier in condensed matter physics. In this paper, we present a brief review on this rapidly developing field, mainly focusing on the superconducting properties of 1-UC FeSe/STO. Experimental evidences for the high-temperature superconductivity in 1-UC FeSe/STO, including the direct evidences revealed by transport and diamagnetic measurements, …
Unconventional symmetry breaking due to nonlocal order parameters has attracted considerable attention in many strongly correlated metals. Famous examples are the nematic order in Fe-based superconductors and the star-of-David charge density order in kagome metals. Such exotic symmetry breaking in metals is a central issue of modern condensed matter physics, while its theoretical foundation is still unclear in comparison with the well-established theory of superconductivity. To overcome this difficulty, here we introduce the "form factor" that generalizes the nonlocal order parameter into the …
Single-layer FeSe films grown on the SrTiO3 substrate (FeSe/STO) have attracted much attention because of their possible record-high superconducting critical temperature Tc and distinct electronic structures in iron-based superconductors. However, it has been under debate on how high its Tc can really reach due to the inconsistency of the results obtained from the transport, magnetic and spectroscopic measurements. Here we report spectroscopic evidence of superconductivity pairing at 83 K in single-layer FeSe/STO films. By preparing high-quality single-layer FeSe/STO films, we observe for the …
Synthesis of monolayer FeSe on SrTiO3, with greatly enhanced superconductivity compared to bulk FeSe, remains difficult. Lengthy annealing within a certain temperature window is always required to achieve superconducting samples as reported by different groups around the world, but the mechanism of annealing in inducing superconductivity has not been elucidated. We grow FeSe films on SrTiO3 by molecular beam epitaxy and adjust the stoichiometry by depositing additional small amounts of Fe atoms. The monolayer films become superconducting after the Fe deposition without any annealing, and show …
The latest discovery of high temperature superconductivity signature in single-layer FeSe is significant because it is possible to break the superconducting critical temperature ceiling (maximum Tc~55 K) that has been stagnant since the discovery of Fe-based superconductivity in 2008. It also blows the superconductivity community by surprise because such a high Tc is unexpected in FeSe system with the bulk FeSe exhibiting a Tc at only 8 K at ambient pressure which can be enhanced to 38 K under high pressure. The Tc is still unusually high even considering the newly-discovered intercalated FeSe…
The discovery of higher-temperature superconductivity in FeSe monolayers on SrTiO$_3$ (STO) substrates has sparked a surge of interest in the interface superconductivity. One point of the agreement reached to date is that modulation doping by impurities in the substrate is critical for the enhanced superconductivity. Remarkably, the universal doping of about 0.1 electrons per Fe, \textit{i.e.}, so-called ``magic'' doping, has been observed on a range of Ti oxide substrates, which concludes that there likely is some important interaction limiting the FeSe doping. Our study discovers that the po…
We study the change in condensation energy from a single pair of fermionic atoms to a large number of pairs interacting via the reduced BCS potential. We find that the energy-saving due to correlations decreases when the pair number increases because the number of empty states available for pairing gets smaller ("moth-eaten effect"). However, this decrease dominates the 3D kinetic energy increase of the same amount of noninteracting atoms only when the pair number is a sizeable fraction of the number of states available for pairing. As a result, in BEC-BCS crossover of 3D systems, the condensa…
The superfluid density, ρ_s, of the iron chalcogenide superconductor, FeSe_1-x, was studied as a function of pressure by means of muon-spin rotation. The zero-temperature value of ρ_s increases with increasing transition temperature T_c (increasing pressure) following the tendency observed for various Fe-based and cuprate superconductors. The analysis of ρ_s(T) within the two-gap scheme reveals that the effect on both, T_c and ρ_s(0), is entirely determined by the band(s) where the large superconducting gap develops, while the band(s) with the small gap become practically unaffected.
Tetragonal beta-FeSe obtained by hydrothermal reaction is not superconducting and transforms to a triclinic structure at 60 K unlike superconducting FeSe from solid state synthesis, which becomes orthorhombic at 90 K. In contrast, tetragonal iron sulphide FeS from hydrothermal synthesis is superconducting at 4.8 K but undergoes no structural transition. Our results suggest that the absence of superconductivity in hydrothermally synthesized FeSe may be associated to the low-temperature structure with zigzag chains of iron atoms, which is different from the known orthorhombic Cmme structure of s…
The thermodynamic potential is calculated for a uniform superfluid gas of fermi atoms from the mean field BCS equations including corrections from induced interactions, Hartree-Fock energies and quasiparticle selfenergies. The entropy, specific heat and sound modes are calculated as function of temperature, density and interaction strength from the BCS to the unitarity limit and around the BCS-BEC crossover. The second sound speed is of particular interest as it is a clear signal of a superfluid component and it determines the critical temperature.
The pairing mechanism in iron-based superconductors is believed to be unconventional, i.e. not phonon-mediated. The achieved transition temperatures Tc in these superconductors are still significantly below those of some of the cuprates, with the exception of single layer FeSe films on SrTiO3 showing a Tc between 60 and 100 K, i.e. an order of magnitude larger than in bulk FeSe. This enormous increase of Tc demonstrates the potential of interface engineering for superconductivity, yet the underlying mechanism of Cooper pairing is not understood. Both conventional and unconventional mechanisms …
Interface enhanced superconductivity at two dimensional limit has become one of most intriguing research directions in condensed matter physics. Here, we report the superconducting properties of ultra-thin FeSe films with the thickness of one unit cell (1-UC) grown on conductive and insulating SrTiO3 (STO) substrates. For the 1-UC FeSe on conductive STO substrate (Nb-STO), the magnetization versus temperature (M-T) measurement shows a diamagnetic signal at 85 K, suggesting the possibility of superconductivity appears at this high temperature. For the FeSe films on insulating STO substrate, sys…
For the Cooper/BCS model interaction in superconductors (SCs) it is shown: a) how BCS-Bose crossover picture transition temperatures Tc, defined self-consistently by both the gap and fermion-number equations, require unphysically large couplings to differ significantly from the Tc of ordinary BCS theory defined without the number equation since here the chemical potential is assumed equal to the Fermi energy; how although ignoring either hole- or electron-Cooper-pairs in the recent "complete boson-fermion model": b) one obtains the precise BCS gap equation for all temperatures T, but c) only h…
Based on a simple model of a layered superconductor with strong attractive interaction, we find that the separation of the pair-condensation temperature from the pair-formation temperature becomes more remarkable as the interlayer hopping gets smaller. We propose from this result the BCS-BEC crossover induced by the change in dimensionality, for instance, due to insertion of additional insulating layers or application of uniaxial pressure. The emergence of a pseudogap in the electronic density of states, which supports the idea of the dimensionality-induced BCS-BEC crossover, is also verified.
It was observed recently (K. Shigekawa et al, PNAS 116, 2470 (2019)) that while monolayer iron chalcigenide FeSe on SrTiO3 (STO) substrate has a very high critical temperature, its chemical and structural "twin" material FeS=STO has a very low Tc if any. To explain this the substrate interfacial phonon model of superconductivity in iron chalcogenides is further developed. The main glue is the oxygen ion (60mev) vibrations longitudinal optical (LO) mode. The mode propagates mainly in the TiO2 layer adjacent to the monolayer (and genrally present also in similar highly polarized ionic crystals l…
The Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer (BCS) condensation and the Bose-Einstein condensation (BEC) are the two extreme limits of the ground state of the paired fermion systems. We report crossover behavior from the BCS condensation to the BEC realized in the two-dimensional (2D) superconductor, electron doped layered material ZrNCl. The phase diagram, established by simultaneous experiments of resistivity and tunneling spectra under the ionic gating, demonstrates the pseudogap phase at the low doping regime. In the low carrier density limit, $T_{\rm BKT}$ (Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless transition tem…
Heterostructure based interface engineering has been proved an effective method for finding new superconducting systems and raising superconductivity transition temperature (TC). In previous work on one unit-cell (UC) thick FeSe films on SrTiO3 (STO) substrate, a superconducting-like energy gap as large as 20 meV, was revealed by in situ scanning tunneling microscopy/spectroscopy (STM/STS). Angle resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) further revealed a nearly isotropic gap of above 15 meV, which closes at a temperature of ~ 65 K. If this transition is indeed the superconducting transitio…
We investigate the ground state properties of a disordered superfluid Fermi gas across the BCS-BEC (Bose Einstein condensate) crossover. We show that, for weak disorder, both the depletion of the condensate fraction of pairs and the normal fluid density exhibit a nonmonotonic behavior as a function of the interaction parameter $1/k_Fa$, reaching their minimum value near unitarity. We find that, moving away from the weak coupling BCS regime, Anderson's theorem ceases to apply and the superfluid order parameter is more and more affected by the random potential.
We conducted $^{77}$Se-nuclear magnetic resonance studies of the iron-based superconductor FeSe in magnetic fields of 0.6 to 19 T to investigate the superconducting and normal-state properties. The nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate divided by the temperature $(T_1T)^{-1}$ increases below the structural transition temperature $T_\mathrm{s}$ but starts to be suppressed below $T^*$, well above the superconducting transition temperature $T_\mathrm{c}(H)$, resulting in a broad maximum of $(T_1T)^{-1}$ at $T_\mathrm{p}(H)$. This is similar to the pseudogap behavior in optimally doped cuprate supe…
In this study, we fabricate 5-30-nm-thick films of FeSe/STO using pulsed laser deposition (PLD). The grown films exhibit superconductivity with an onset $T_{\mathrm{c}}$ that is much higher than that of bulk FeSe under ambient pressure. The observed $T_{\mathrm{c}}$ values are exceptionally high in terms of the strain vs. $T_{\mathrm{c}}$ relationship of the same material established so far. Furthermore, $T_{\mathrm{c}}$ increases as the film thickness decreases, except for films thinner than 10 nm. This thickness dependence of $T_{\mathrm{c}}$ is in good agreement with the results reported fo…
We investigate single-particle excitation properties in the normal state of a two-band superconductor or superfluid throughout the Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer (BCS) to Bose-Einstein-condensation (BEC) crossover, within the many-body T-matrix approximation for multi-channel pairing fluctuations. We address the single-particle density of states and the spectral functions consisting of two contributions associated with a waekly interacting deep band and a strongly interacting shallow band, relevant for iron-based multiband superconductors and multicomponent fermionic superfluids. We show how the ps…
The BCS-to-BEC crossover, as well as the nature of Cooper pairs, in a superconducting and Fermi superfluid medium is studied from the exact ground state wavefunction of the reduced BCS Hamiltonian. As the strength of the interaction increases, the ground state continuously evolves from a mixed-system of quasifree fermions and pair resonances (BCS), to pair resonances and quasibound molecules (pseudogap), and finally to a system of quasibound molecules (BEC). A single unified scenario arises where the Cooper-pair wavefunction has a unique functional form. Several exact analytic expressions, suc…
