The energy densities of dark matter (DM) and dark energy (DE) are of the same order at the present epoch despite the fact that both these quantities have contrasting characteristics and are presumed to have evolved distinctively with cosmic evolution. This is a major issue in standard $Λ$CDM cosmology and is termed "The Coincidence Problem" which hitherto cannot be explained by any fundamental theory. In this spirit, Bisabr \cite{bisabr} reported a cosmological scenario in $f(R)$ gravity where DM and DE interact and exchange energy with each other and therefore evolve dependently. We investigate the efficiency and model independancy of the technique reported in Bisabr \cite{bisabr} in addressing the Coincidence problem with the help of two $f(R)$ gravity models with model parameters constrained from various observations. Our result confirm the idea that not all scalar-tensor gravity theories and models can circumvent the Coincidence Problem and any cosmological scenario with interacting fluids is highly model dependent and hence alternate model independent theories and ideas should be nominated to solve this mystery.
The problem to estimate the background due to accidental coincidences in the search for coincidences in gravitational wave experiments is discussed. The use of delayed coincidences obtained by orderly shifting the event times of one of the two detectors is shown to be the most correct
The existence of extremely dark and compact astronomical bodies is by now a well established observational fact. On the other hand, classical General Relativity predicts the existence of black holes which fit very well with the observations, but do lead to important conceptual problems. In this contribution we ask ourselves the straightforward question: Are the dark and compact objects that we have observational evidence for black holes in the sense of General Relativity? By revising the semiclassical scenario of stellar collapse we find out that as the result of a collapse some alternative ob…
Nonlocal RT gravity is a successful modified gravity theory, which not only explains the late-time cosmic acceleration but also behaves well in the solar system. Previous analysis generally assumes the auxiliary field $S_i$ vanishes at the cosmic background. However, we find the background $S_i$ is proportional to $a^2$ with the expansion of the universe. Then we discuss the influence of the nonzero background $S_i$ on the cosmic background evolution, the scalar and tensor perturbations. We find the cosmic background evolution is independent of $S_i$, and the influence of the nonzero backgroun…
The standard model of cosmology is investigated using time dependent cosmological constant $Λ$ and Newton's gravitational constant $G$. The total energy content is described by the modified Chaplygin gas equation of state. It is found that the time dependent constants coupled with the modified Chaplygin gas interpolate between the earlier matter to the later dark energy dominated phase of the universe. We also achieve a convergence of parameter $ω\to-1$, with minute fluctuations, showing an evolving $ω$. Thus our model fairly alleviates the cosmic coincidence problem which demands $ω=-1$ at pr…
We extend previous results in spherically symmetric gravitational systems coupled with a massless scalar field within the loop quantum gravity framework. As starting point, we take the Schwarzschild spacetime. The results presented here rely on the uniform discretization method. We are able to minimize the associated discrete master constraint using a variational method. The trial state for the vacuum consists of a direct product of a Fock vacuum for the matter part and a Gaussian centered around the classical Schwarzschild solution. This paper follows the line of research presented by Gambini…
We study a gravitational model in which scale transformations play the key role in obtaining dynamical $G$ and $Λ$. We take a scale non-invariant gravitational action with a cosmological constant and a gravitational coupling constant. Then, by a scale transformation, through a dilaton field, we obtain a new action containing cosmological and gravitational coupling terms which are dynamically dependent on the dilaton field with Higgs type potential. The vacuum expectation value of this dilaton field, through spontaneous symmetry breaking on the basis of anthropic principle, determines the time …
The existence of a minimum length in quantum gravity is investigated by computing the in-in expectation value of the proper distance in the Schwinger-Keldysh formalism. No minimum geometrical length is found for arbitrary gravitational theories to all orders in perturbation theory. Using non-perturbative techniques, we also show that neither the conformal sector of general relativity nor higher-derivative gravity features a minimum length. A minimum length scale, on the other hand, seems to always be present when one considers in-out amplitudes, from which one could extract the energy scale of…
Fermions constitute an important component of matter and their quantization in presence of dynamical gravity is essential for any theory of quantum gravity. We revisit the classical formulation adapted for a background free quantization. The analysis is carried out with the Hilbert-Palatini form for gravity together with the Nieh-Yan topological term which keeps the nature of Barbero-Immirzi parameter independent of inclusion of arbitrary matter with arbitrary couplings. With dynamical gravity, a priori, there are two distinct notions of `parity' - orientation reversing diffeomorphisms and imp…
Revisiting holographic dark energy from the perspective of multi-messenger gravitational wave astronomy: future joint observations with short gamma-ray bursts
The cuscuton is a scalar field with infinite speed of propagation. It was introduced in the context of cosmology but it has also been claimed to resemble Horava gravity in a certain limit. Here we revisit the cuscuton theory as a Lorentz-violating gravity theory. We clarify its relation with Horava gravity and Einstein-aether theory, analyze its causal structure, and consider its initial value formulation. Finally, we discuss to which extent the cuscuton theory can be used as a proxy for Horava gravity in the context of gravitational collapse and formation of universal horizons.

Revisiting Data Quality Control and Multiple-star Modeling in Wide Binary Gravity Tests: Confirmation of MOND-type Gravitational Anomaly at Low Acceleration
Among the suggested solutions to the cosmological constant problem, we find the idea of a dynamic vacuum, with an energy density decaying with the universe expansion. We investigate the possibility of a variation in the gravitational constant as well, induced, at the cosmological scale, by the vacuum decay. We consider an effective Brans-Dicke theory in the spatially flat FLRW spacetime, finding late time solutions characterized by a constant ratio between the matter and vacuum energy densities. By using the observed limits for the universe age, we fix the only free parameter of our solutions,…
Cosmic backreaction as an additional source of the expansion of the universe has been a debate topic since the discovery of cosmic acceleration. The major concern is whether the self interaction of small-scale nonlinear structures would source gravity on very large scales. Gregory Ryskin argued against the additional inclusion of gravitational interaction energy of astronomical objects, whose masses are mostly inferred from gravitational effects and hence should already contain all sources with long-range gravity forces. Ryskin proposed that the backreaction contribution to the energy momentum…
Astronomical observations have shown that the expansion of the universe is at present accelerating, consistently with a constant negative pressure or tension. This is a major puzzle because we do not understand why this tension is so small compared to the Planck density; why, being so small, it is not exactly zero; and why it has precisely the required value to make the expansion start accelerating just at the epoch when we are observing the universe. The recently proposed conjecture by Afshordi that black holes create a gravitational aether owing to quantum gravity effects, which may be ident…
A rare coincidence of scales in standard particle physics is needed to explain why $Λ$ or the negative pressure of cosmological dark energy (DE) coincides with the positive pressure $P_0$ of random motion of dark matter (DM) in bright galaxies. Recently Zlosnik et al. (2007) propose to modify the Einsteinian curvature by adding a non-linear pressure from a medium flowing with a four-velocity vector field $U^μ$. We propose to check whether a smooth extension of GR with a simple kinetic Lagrangian of $U^μ$ can be constructed, and whether the pressure can bend space-time sufficiently to replace t…
We study a new exactly solvable model of coupling of the Dark Energy and Dark Matter, in the framework of which the kernel of non-gravitational interaction is presented by the integral Volterra-type operator well-known in the classical theory of fading memory. Exact solutions of this isotropic homogeneous cosmological model were classified with respect to the sign of the discriminant of the cubic characteristic polynomial associated with the key equation of the model. Energy-density scalars of the Dark Energy and Dark Matter, the Hubble function and acceleration parameter are presented explici…
We study the evolution and power spectrum of primordial gravitational waves in the interactive Bose-Einstein gas model for dark energy, relevant, as it addresses the coincidence problem. The model is applied in the radiation, matter and dark-energy domination stages. The model introduces a scale factor associated to the radiation-matter transition which influences the gravitational spectrum. We focus on the impact of the free parameters on both the gravitational waves amplitude and its power-spectrum slope. For sets of parameters fitting Hubble's law, we show that the model's parameter for tod…
The runaway collapse phase of a small dark matter cluster inside a white dwarf star encompasses a reversible stage, where heat can be transferred back and forth between nuclear and dark matter. Induced nuclear burning phases are stable and early carbon depletion undermines previous claims of type Ia supernova ignition. Instead, mini black holes are formed at the center of the star that either evaporate or accrete stellar material until a macroscopic sub-Chandrasekhar-mass black hole is formed. In the latter case, a 0.1 to 1 second lasting electromagnetic transient signal can be detected upon e…
Gravitational wave standard sirens have been considered as precision distance indicators to high redshift; however, at high redshift standard sirens or standard candles such as supernovae suffer from lensing noise. We investigate lensing noise as a signal instead and show how measurements of the maximum demagnification (minimum convergence) probe cosmology in a highly complementary manner to the distance itself. Revisiting the original form for minimum convergence we quantify the bias arising from the commonly used approximation. Furthermore, after presenting a new lensing probability function…
