In describing a dynamical system, the greatest part of the work for a theoretician is to translate experimental data into differential equations. It is desirable for such differential equations to admit a Lagrangian and/or an Hamiltonian description because of the Noether theorem and because they are the starting point for the quantization. As a matter of fact many ambiguities arise in each step of such a reconstruction which must be solved by the ingenuity of the theoretician. In the present work we describe geometric structures emerging in Lagrangian, Hamiltonian and Quantum description of a dynamical system underlining how many of them are not really fixed only by the trajectories observed by the experimentalist.
Given a Heisenberg algebra A of canonical commutation relations modelled over an infinite-dimensional nuclear space, a Hopf algebra of its quantum deformations is also an algebra of canonical commutation relations whose Fock representation recovers some non-Fock representation of A.
In this short paper, the commutator of monomials of operators obeying constant commutation relations is expressed in terms of anticommutators. The formula involves Bernoulli numbers or Euler polynomials evaluated in zero. The role of Bernoulli numbers in quantum-mechanical identities such as the Baker-Campbell-Hausdorff formula is emphasized and applications connected to ordering problems as well as to Ehrenfest theorem are proposed.
We show that the series product, which serves as an algebraic rule for connecting state-based input/output systems, is intimately related to the Heisenberg group and the canonical commutation relations. The series product for quantum stochastic models then corresponds to a non-abelian generalization of the Weyl commutation relation. We show that the series product gives the general rule for combining the generators of quantum stochastic evolutions using a Lie-Trotter product formula.
We continue our analysis of the consequences of the commutation relation $[S,T]=\Id$, where $S$ and $T$ are two closable unbounded operators. The {\em weak} sense of this commutator is given in terms of the inner product of the Hilbert space $\H$ where the operators act. {We also consider what we call, adopting a physical terminology}, a {\em nonlinear} extension of the above commutation relations.
We present an approach to a non-commutative-like phase space which allows to analyze quasi-free states on the CAR algebra in analogy to quasi-free states on the CCR algebra. The used mathematical tools are based on a new algebraic structure the "Grassmann algebra of canonical anti-commutation relations" (GAR algebra) which is given by the twisted tensor product of a Grassmann and a CAR algebra. As a new application, the corresponding theory provides an elegant tool for calculating the fidelity of two quasi-free fermionic states which is needed for the study of entanglement distillation within …
We consider quantum integrable models with $\mathfrak{gl}(2|1)$ symmetry. We derive a set of multiple commutation relations between the monodromy matrix entries. These multiple commutation relations allow us to obtain different representations for Bethe vectors.
We apply the Clebsch-Gordan and Racah coefficients to calculate the double tensors for two equivalent d electrons. We also obtain the commutation relations for these double tensors and choose certain quantum numbers, which produce a subgroup. From the root vectors of the commutation relations, we identify them with Lie algebra B2. Once we have the correct Lie algebra, it is feasible to use the Wigner-Eckart theorem to find matrix elements for transition states among atomic spectra or nuclear shell models.
We treat the canonical commutation relations and the conventional calculus based on it as an algebraic syntax of quantum mechanics and establish a geometric semantics of this syntax. This leads us to a geometric model, the space of states with the action of time evolution operators, which is a limit of finite models. The finitary nature of the space allows to give a precise meaning and calculate various classical quantum mechanical quantities.
Quantum symmetries that leave invariant physical transition probabilities are described by projective representations of Lie groups. The mathematical theory of projected representations for topologically connected Lie groups is reviewed and applied to the inhomogeneous symplectic group ISp(2n). The projective representations are given in terms of the ordinary unitary representations of the central extension of the group with respect to its first homotopy group direct product with its second cohomology group. The second cohomology group of ISp(2n) is the one dimensional abelian group and the ce…
We explicitly construct two classes of infinitly many commutative operators in terms of the deformed W-algebra $W_{qt}(sl_N^)$, and give proofs of the commutation relations of these operators. We call one of them local integrals of motion and the other nonlocal one, since they can be regarded as elliptic deformation of local and nonlocal integrals of motion for the $W_N$ algebra.
We prove the uniqueness theorem for the solutions to the restricted Weyl commutation relations braiding unitary groups and semi-groups of contractions that are close to unitaries. We also discuss related mathematical problems of continuous monitoring of quantum systems and provide rigorous foundations for the exponential decay phenomenon of a resonant state in quantum mechanics.
Lecture notes of a minicourse given at the Summer School on Large Coulomb Systems - QED in Nordfjordeid, 2003, devoted to representations of the CCR and CAR. Quasifree states, the Araki-Woods and Araki-Wyss representations, and the lattice of von Neumenn algebras in a bosonic/fermionic Fock space are discussed in detail.
In this paper we discuss a general algebraic approach to treating static equations of matrix models with a mass-like term. In this approach the equations of motions are considered as consequence of parafermi-like trilinear commutation relations. In this context we consider several solutions, including construction of noncommutative spheres. The equivalence of fuzzy spheres and parafermions is underlined.
Two generalizations of Kempf's quadratic canonical commutation relation in one dimension are considered. The first one is the most general quadratic commutation relation. The corresponding nonzero minimal uncertainties in position and momentum are determined and the effect on the energy spectrum and eigenfunctions of the harmonic oscillator in an electric field is studied. The second extension is a function-dependent generalization of the simplest quadratic commutation relation with only a nonzero minimal uncertainty in position. Such an uncertainty now becomes dependent on the average positio…
Four possible definitions of the commutation relation $[S,T]=\Id$ of two closable unbounded operators $S,T$ are compared. The {\em weak} sense of this commutator is given in terms of the inner product of the Hilbert space $\H$ where the operators act. Some consequences on the existence of eigenvectors of two number-like operators are derived and the partial O*-algebra generated by $S,T$ is studied. Some applications are also considered.
Various aspects of dissipative and nondissipative decoherence of Rabi oscillations are discussed in the context of field quantization in alternative representations of CCR. Theory is confronted with experiment, and a possibility of more conclusive tests is analyzed.
We consider commutation relations and invertibility relations of vertex operators for the quantum affine superalgebra $U_q(\widehat{sl}(M|N))$ by using bosonization. We show that vertex operators give a representation of the graded Zamolodchikov-Faddeev algebra by direct computation.Invertibility relations of type-II vertex operators for $N>M$ are very similar to those of type-I for $M>N$.
Using Connes distance formula in noncommutative geometry, it is possible to retrieve the Euclidean distance from the canonical commutation relations of quantum mechanics. In this note, we study modifications of the distance induced by a deformation of the position-momentum commutation relations. We first consider the deformation coming from a cut-off in momentum space, then the one obtained by replacing the usual derivative on the real line with the h- and q-derivatives, respectively. In these various examples, some points turn out to be at infinite distance. We then show (on both the real lin…
We construct a new class of representations of the canonical commutation relations, which generalizes previously known classes. We perturb the infinitesimal generator of the initial Fock representation (i.e. the free quantum field) by a function of the field which is square-integrable with respect to the associated Gaussian measure. We characterize which such perturbations lead to representations of the canonical commutation relations. We provide conditions entailing the irreducibility of such representations, show explicitly that our class of representations subsumes previously studied classe…
Recent interest in discrete, classical integrable systems has focused on their connection to quantum integrable systems via the Bethe equations. In this note, solutions to the rational nested Bethe ansatz (RNBA) equations are constructed using the ``completed Calogero-Moser phase space'' of matrices which satisfy a finite dimensional analogue of the canonical commutation relationship. A key feature is the fact that the RNBA equations are derived only from this commutation relationship and some elementary linear algebra. The solutions constructed in this way inherit continuous and discrete symm…
Based on the assumption that time evolves only in one direction and mechanical systems can be described by Lagrangeans, a dynamical C*-algebra is presented for non-relativistic particles at atomic scales. Without presupposing any quantization scheme, this algebra is inherently non-commutative and comprises a large set of dynamics. In contrast to other approaches, the generating elements of the algebra are not interpreted as observables, but as operations on the underlying system; they describe the impact of temporary perturbations caused by the surroundings. In accordance with the doctrine of …
We present four classes of nonlinear systems which may be considered discrete analogues of the Garnier system. These systems arise as discrete isomonodromic deformations of systems of linear difference equations in which the associated Lax matrices are presented in a factored form. A system of discrete isomonodromic deformations is completely determined by commutation relations between the factors. We also reparameterize these systems in terms of the image and kernel vectors at singular points to obtain a separate birational form. A distinguishing feature of this study is the presence of a sym…
In this Colloqium Lecture (by one of the authors (D.S)) a thorough presentation of the authors' research on the subjects, stated in the title, is given. By quite laborious mathematics it is explained how one can handle systems in which each Heisenberg commutation relation is deformed separately. For Hilbert space realizability a detailed determinant computations (extending Zagier's one-parameter formulas) are carried out. The inversion problem of the associated Gram matrices on Fock weight spaces is completely solved (Extended Zagier's conjecture) and a counterexample (for $n=8$) to the origin…
The maximal symmetry of a quantum system with Heisenberg commutation relations is given by the projective representations of the automorphism group of the Weyl-Heisenberg algebra. The automorphism group is the central extension of the inhomogeneous symplectic group with a conformal scaling that acts on extended phase space. We determine the subgroup that also leaves invariant a degenerate orthogonal Minkowski line element. This defines noninertial relativistic symmetry transformations that have the expected classical limit as c becomes infinite.
We investigate the infinite volume limit of quantized photon fields in multimode coherent states. We show that for states containing a continuum of coherent modes, it is mathematically and physically natural to consider their phases to be random and identically distributed. The infinite volume states give rise to Hilbert space representations of the canonical commutation relations which we construct concretely. In the case of random phases, the representations are random as well and can be expressed with the help of Itô stochastic integrals. We analyze the dynamics of the infinite state alone …
The method of deforming free fields by using multiplication operators on Fock space, introduced by G. Lechner in [11], is generalized to a charged free field on two- and three-dimensional Minkowski space. In this case the deformation function can be chosen in such a way that the deformed fields satisfy generalized commutation relations, i.e. they behave like Anyons instead of Bosons. The fields are "polarization free" in the sense that they create only one-particle states from the vacuum and they are localized in wedges (or "paths of wedges"), which makes it possible to circumvent a No-Go theo…
In the talk, I briefly demonstrate the quantum theory for mesoscopic electric circuits and its applications. In the theory, the importance of the charge discreteness in a mesoscopic electric circuit is addressed. As a result, a new kind of commutation relation for electric charge and current occurred inevitably. The charge representation, canonical current representation and pseudo-current representation are discussed extensively. It not only provides a concrete realization of mathematical models which discuss the space quantization in high energy physics and quantum gravity but also presents …
We construct an algebra with twisted commutation relations and equip it with the shift. For appropriate irregularity of the non-local commutation relations we prove that the tracial state is the only translation-invariant state.
The notion of a multiplier of a group X is generalized to that of a C*-multiplier by allowing it to have values in an arbitrary C*-algebra A. On the other hand, the notion of the action of X in A is generalized to that of a projective action of X as linear transformations of the space of continuous functions with compact support in X and with values in A. It is shown that there exists a one-to-one correspondence between C*-multipliers and projective actions. C*-multipliers have been used to define twisted group algebras. On the other hand, the projective action tau can be used to construct the…
The Weyl algebra,- the usual C*-algebra employed to model the canonical commutation relations (CCRs), has a well-known defect in that it has a large number of representations which are not regular and these cannot model physical fields. Here, we construct explicitly a C*-algebra which can reproduce the CCRs of a countably dimensional symplectic space (S,B) and such that its representation set is exactly the full set of regular representations of the CCRs. This construction uses Blackadar's version of infinite tensor products of nonunital C*-algebras, and it produces a "host algebra" (i.e. a ge…
We consider Fock representations of the $Q$-deformed commutation relations $$\partial_s\partial^†_t=Q(s,t)\partial_t^†\partial_s+δ(s,t), \quad s,t\in T.$$ Here $T:=\mathbb R^d$ (or more generally $T$ is a locally compact Polish space), the function $Q:T^2\to \mathbb C$ satisfies $|Q(s,t)|\le1$ and $Q(s,t)=\overline{Q(t,s)}$, and $$\int_{T^2}h(s)g(t)δ(s,t)\,σ(ds)σ(dt):=\int_T h(t)g(t)\,σ(dt),$$ $σ$ being a fixed reference measure on $T$. In the case where $|Q(s,t)|\equiv 1$, the $Q$-deformed commutation relations describe a generalized statistics studied by Liguori and Mintchev (1995). These ge…
The generators of rotations, boosts and translations are built up based on the commutation and anticommutation relations of the fundamental two dimensional representation of SU(2). Rotations in spacetime derive from the commutation relations of SU(2). Boosts derive from the anticommutation relations of SU(2).
We study the joint probability density of the eigenvalues of a product of rectangular real, complex or quaternion random matrices in a unified way. The random matrices are distributed according to arbitrary probability densities, whose only restriction is the invariance under left and right multiplication by orthogonal, unitary or unitary symplectic matrices, respectively. We show that a product of rectangular matrices is statistically equivalent to a product of square matrices. Hereby we prove a weak commutation relation of the random matrices at finite matrix sizes, which previously have bee…
Three dimensional Dirac oscillator was considered in deformed space obeyed to deformed commutation relations known as Snyder-de Sitter algebra. Snyder-de Sitter commutation relations gives rise to appearance minimal uncertainty in position as well as in momentum. To derive energy spectrum and wavefunctions of the Dirac oscillator supersymmetric quantum mechanics and shape invariance technique was applied.
We study a family of representations of the canonical commutation relations (CCR)-algebra (an infinite number of degrees of freedom), which we call admissible. The family of admissible representations includes the Fock-vacuum representation. We show that, to every admissible representation, there is an associated Gaussian stochastic calculus, and we point out that the case of the Fock-vacuum CCR-representation in a natural way yields the operators of Malliavin calculus. And we thus get the operators of Malliavin's calculus of variation from a more algebraic approach than is common. And we obta…
Borchers has shown that in a translation covariant vacuum representation of a theory of local observables with positive energy the following holds: The (Tomita) modular objects associated with the observable algebra of a fixed wedge region give rise to a representation of the subgroup of the Poincare group generated by the boosts and the reflection associated to the wedge, and the translations. We prove here that Borchers' theorem also holds in charged sectors with (possibly non-Abelian) braid group statistics in low space-time dimensions. Our result is a crucial step towards the Bisognano-Wic…
The model of the position-dependent noncommutativety in quantum mechanics is proposed. We start with a given commutation relations between the operators of coordinates [x^{i},x^{j}]=ω^{ij}(x), and construct the complete algebra of commutation relations, including the operators of momenta. The constructed algebra is a deformation of a standard Heisenberg algebra and obey the Jacobi identity. The key point of our construction is a proposed first-order Lagrangian, which after quantization reproduces the desired commutation relations. Also we study the possibility to localize the noncommutativety.
Let $H$ be a separable Hilbert space and $T$ be a self-adjoint bounded linear operator on $H^{\otimes 2}$ with norm $\le1$, satisfying the Yang--Baxter equation. Bożejko and Speicher (1994) proved that the operator $T$ determines a $T$-deformed Fock space $\mathcal F(H)=\bigoplus_{n=0}^\infty\mathcal F_n(H)$. We start with reviewing and extending the known results about the structure of the $n$-particle spaces $\mathcal F_n(H)$ and the commutation relations satisfied by the corresponding creation and annihilation operators acting on $\mathcal F(H)$. We then choose $H=L^2(X\to V)$, the $L^2$-sp…
We discuss the meaning of renormalization used for deriving quadratic bosonic commutation relations introduced by Accardi and find a representation of these relations on an interacting Fock space. Also, we investigate classical stochastic processes which can be constructed from noncommutative quadratic white noise. We postulate quadratic free white noise commutation relations and find their representation on an interacting Fock space.
Classical pseudo-differential calculus on $\mathbb{R}^{d}$ can be viewed as a (non-commutative) functional calculus for the standard position and momentum operators $(Q_{1}, \dots , Q_{d})$ and $(P_{1}, \dots , P_{d})$. We generalise this calculus to the setting of two $d$-tuples of operators $A=(A_{1}, \dots , A_{d})$ and $B=(B_{1}, \dots , B_{d})$ acting on a Banach space $X$ such that $iA_{1}, \dots , iA_{d}$ and $iB_{1}, \dots , iB_{d}$ generate bounded $C_0$-groups satisfying the Weyl canonical commutation relations $e^{isA_j}e^{itA_k} = e^{itA_k}e^{isA_j}$, $e^{isB_j}e^{itB_k} = e^{itB_k…
In this paper we study a collections of operators $a(k)$ satisfying the "$q_{kl} $-canonical commutation relations" $a(k)a^{+}(l)-q_{kl}a^{+}(l)a(k) =δ_{kl} $ (corresponding for $q_{kl}=q$ to Greenberg (infinite) statistics, for $q=\pm 1$ to classical Bose and Fermi statistics). We show that $n!\times n!$ matrices $A_{n}(\{q_{kl}\})$ of scalar products of n-particle states is positive definite for all n if $|q_{kl}|<1$, all k,l, so that the above commutation relations have a Hilbert space realization. This is achieved by explicit factorizations of $A_{n}(\{q_{kl}\})$ as a product of matrices of…
We continue our study and classification of structures on the Fano plane ${\cal F}$ and its dual ${\cal F}^\ast$ involved in the construction of octonions and the Lie algebra $\mathfrak g_2 (\mathbb F)$ over a field $\mathbb F$. These are a "composition factor": ${\cal F}\times {\cal F} \to\{-1, 1\}$, inducing an octonion multiplication, and a function $δ^\ast : Aut({\cal F}) \times {\cal F}^\ast \to \{-1, 1\}$ such that $g \in Aut({\cal F})$ can be lifted to an automorphism of the octonions iff $δ^\ast(g, \cdot)$ is the Radon transform of a function on ${\cal F}$. We lift the action of $Aut({…
