We discuss the meaning of renormalization used for deriving quadratic bosonic commutation relations introduced by Accardi and find a representation of these relations on an interacting Fock space. Also, we investigate classical stochastic processes which can be constructed from noncommutative quadratic white noise. We postulate quadratic free white noise commutation relations and find their representation on an interacting Fock space.
We discuss self-adjoint operators given formally by expressions quadratic in bosonic creation and annihilation operators. We give conditions when they can be defined as self-adjoint operators, possibly after an infinite renormalization. We also discuss explicit formulas for their infimum. Our main motivation comes from Local Quantum Field Theory, which furnishes interesting examples of bosonic quadratic Hamiltonians that require an infinite renormalization.
We provide general conditions for which bosonic quadratic Hamiltonians on Fock spaces can be diagonalized by Bogoliubov transformations. Our results cover the case when quantum systems have infinite degrees of freedom and the associated one-body kinetic and paring operators are unbounded. Our sufficient conditions are optimal in the sense that they become necessary when the relevant one-body operators commute.
Quadratic algebras of the type $\lsb Q_0, Q_\pm \rsb$ $=$ $\pm Q_\pm$, $\lsb Q_+, Q_- \rsb$ $=$ $aQ_0^2 + bQ_0 + c$ are studied using three-mode bosonic realizations. Matrix representations and single variable differential operator realizations are obtained. Examples of physical relevance of such algebras are given.
We explain in this note how real fermionic and bosonic quadratic forms can be effectively diagonalized. Nothing like that exists for the general complex hermitian forms. Looks like this observation was missed in the Quantum Field theoretical literature. The present author observed it for the case of fermions in 1986 making some topological work dedicated to the problem: how to construct Morse-type inequalities for the generic real vector fields? This idea also is presented in the note.
We give an outlook, how to realize the ideas of complex scaling from Grothaus, Vogel and Streit to phase space path integrals in the framework of White Noise Analysis. The idea of this scaling method goes back to Doss. Therefore we extend the concept complex scaling to scaling with suitable bounded operators.
We study a non-autonomous, non-linear evolution equation on the space of operators on a complex Hilbert space. We specify assumptions that ensure the global existence of its solutions and allow us to derive its asymptotics at temporal infinity. We demonstrate that these assumptions are optimal in a suitable sense and more general than those used before. The evolution equation derives from the Brocket-Wegner flow that was proposed to diagonalize matrices and operators by a strongly continuous unitary flow. In fact, the solution of the non-linear flow equation leads to a diagonalization of Hamil…
The functor of second quantization as well as quadratic creation and annihilation operators on the bosonic Fock space are defined through possibly infinite series. The domain of convergence is investigated by precise number operator estimates and the Banach-Steinhaus Theorem. Some fundamental properties of the limit operators are derived.
Bosonic quadratic Hamiltonians, often called Bogoliubov Hamiltonians, play an important role in the theory of many-boson systems where they arise in a natural way as an approximation to the full many-body problem. In this note we would like to give an overview of recent advances in the study of bosonic quadratic Hamiltonians. In particular, we relate the reported results to what can be called the time-dependent diagonalization problem.
Four classes of three dimensional quadratic algebras of the type $\lsb Q_0 , Q_\pm \rsb$ $=$ $\pm Q_\pm$, $\lsb Q_+ , Q_- \rsb$ $=$ $aQ_0^2 + bQ_0 + c$, where $(a,b,c)$ are constants or central elements of the algebra, are constructed using a generalization of the well known two-mode bosonic realizations of $su(2)$ and $su(1,1)$. The resulting matrix representations and single variable differential operator realizations are obtained. Some remarks on the mathematical and physical relevance of such algebras are given.
Quadratic bosonic Hamiltonians over a one-particle Hilbert space can be described by a Bogoliubov-de Gennes (BdG) Hamiltonian on a particle-hole Hilbert space. In general, the BdG Hamiltonian is not selfadjoint, but only $J$-selfadjoint on the particle-hole space viewed as a Krein space. Nevertheless, its energy bands can have non-trivial topological invariants like Chern numbers or winding numbers. By a thorough analysis for tight-binding models, it is proved that these invariants lead to bosonic edge modes which are robust to a large class of possibly disordered perturbations. Furthermore, g…
We give necessary and/or sufficient conditions for stochastic stability of second-order linear autonomous systems with parameters, which are perturbed by a random process of the "white noise" type. The Ito's and Stratonovich's forms of stochastic differential equations representing the system with white noise are considered. The investigation of stochastic stability of the systems considered is based on the construction of special Lyapunov functions in the quadratic forms. The bifurcation value of the white noise intensity at which a system first becomes unstable is presented in the analytical…
We prove that the entanglement entropy of any pure initial state of a bipartite bosonic quantum system grows linearly in time with respect to the dynamics induced by any unstable quadratic Hamiltonian. The growth rate does not depend on the initial state and is equal to the sum of certain Lyapunov exponents of the corresponding classical dynamics. This paper generalizes the findings of [Bianchi et al., JHEP 2018, 25 (2018)], which proves the same result in the special case of Gaussian initial states. Our proof is based on a recent generalization of the strong subadditivity of the von Neumann e…
Within the framework of the Accardi-Fagnola-Quaegebeur (AFQ) representation free calculus of \cite{b}, we consider the problem of controlling the size of a quantum stochastic flow generated by a unitary stochastic evolution affected by quantum noise. In the case when the evolution is driven by first order white noise (which includes quantum Brownian motion) the control is shown to be given in terms of the solution of an algebraic Riccati equation. This is done by first solving the problem of controlling (by minimizing an associated quadratic performance criterion) a stochastic process whose ev…
This paper is concerned with multimode open quantum harmonic oscillators and quadratic-exponential functionals (QEFs) as quantum risk-sensitive performance criteria. Such systems are described by linear quantum stochastic differential equations driven by multichannel bosonic fields. We develop a finite-horizon expansion for the system variables using the eigenbasis of their two-point commutator kernel with noncommuting position-momentum pairs as coefficients. This quantum Karhunen-Loeve expansion is used in order to obtain a Girsanov type representation for the quadratic-exponential functions …
