In this paper, we investigate the electronic transport properties of a quantum dot (QD) connected to two ferromagnetic leads and one superconductor lead in the Kondo regime by means of the finite-$U$ slave boson mean field approach and nonequilibrium Green function technique. In this three-terminal hybrid nano-device, we will focus our attention on the joint effects of the Konod correlation, superconducting proximity pairing, and spin polarization of leads. It is found that: the superconducting proximity effect will suppress the linear local conductance (LLC) stemming from the weakened Kondo peak, and when its coupling $Γ_s$ is bigger than the tunnel-coupling $Γ$ of two normal leads, the linear cross conductance (LCC) becomes negative in the Kondo region; for antiparallel configuration, increasing spin polarization further suppresses LLC but enhances LCC, i.e. causing larger negative values of LCC, since it is benefit for emergence of cross Andreev reflection; On the contrary, for parallel configuration, with increasing spin polarization, the LLC descends and greatly widens with the appearance of shoulders, and eventually splits into four peaks, and meanwhile the LCC reduces relatively rapidly to the normal conductance.
The zero bias conductance of quantum dots coupled to ferromagnetic leads is investigated. In the strong coupling regime, it is found that the conductance is a non-monotonic function of the angle between the magnetisation directions in the two contacts. This behaviour is an effect of the presence of the leads which induces an angle dependent spin split of the quantum dot states, and spin flip transitions between the quantum dot states whenever the magnetisation directions of the leads are non-collinear which enhances the current density at the chemical potential. In the weak coupling regime, th…
The proximity effect in hybrid superconductor-semiconductor structures, crucial for realizing Majorana edge modes, is complicated to control due to its dependence on many unknown microscopic parameters. In addition, defects can spoil the induced superconductivity locally in the proximitised system which complicates measuring global properties with a local probe. We show how to use the nonlocal conductance between two spatially separated leads to probe three global properties of a proximitised system: the bulk superconducting gap, the induced gap, and the induced coherence length. Unlike local …
We develop a theory for the three-terminal nonlocal conductance in Majorana nanowires as existing in the superconductor-semiconductor hybrid structures in the presence of superconducting proximity, spin-orbit coupling, and Zeeman splitting. The key question addressed is whether such nonlocal conductance can decisively distinguish between trivial and topological Majorana scenarios in the presence of chemical potential inhomogeneity and random impurity disorder. We calculate the local electrical as well as nonlocal electrical and thermal conductance of the pristine nanowire (good zero-bias condu…
We consider one-dimensional transport through an interacting region in series with a point-like one-body scatterer. When the conductance of the interacting region is perfect, independently of the interaction strength, a nonlocal interaction effect yields a total conductance of the composed system that depends on the interaction strength and is lower than the transmission of the one-body scatterer. This qualitative nonlocal effect allows to probe the dressing cloud of an interacting system by ideal noninteracting leads. The conductance correction increases with the strength of the interaction a…
Nonlocal currents, in devices where two normal metal terminals are contacted to a superconductor, are determined using the circuit theory of mesoscopic superconductivity. We calculate the conductance associated with crossed Andreev reflection and electron transfer between the two normal metal terminals, in addition to the conductance from direct Andreev reflection and quasiparticle tunneling. Dephasing and proximity effect are taken into account.
We theoretically investigate inelastic transport through anisotropic magnetic molecules weakly coupled to one ferromagnetic and one nonmagnetic lead. We find that the current is suppressed over wide voltage ranges due to spin blockade. In this system, spin blockade is associated with successive spin flips of the molecular spins and depends on the anisotropy energy barrier. This leads to the appearance of a window of bias voltages between the Coulomb blockade and spin blockade regimes where the current is large and to negative differential conductance at low temperatures. Remarkably, negative d…
We investigate charge conductance and spin and valley polarization along with the tunnelling magneto-resistance (TMR) in silicene junctions composed of normal silicene and ferromagnetic silicene. We show distinct features of the conductances for parallel and anti-parallel spin configurations and the TMR, as the ferromagnetic-normal-ferromagnetic (FNF) junction is tuned by an external electric field. We analyse the behavior of the charge conductance and valley and spin polarizations in terms of the independent conductances of the different spins at the two valleys and the band structure of ferr…
Quantum coherence of electrons in ferromagnetic metals is difficult to assess experimentally. We report the first measurements of time-dependent universal conductance fluctuations in ferromagnetic metal (Ni$_{0.8}$Fe$_{0.2}$) nanostructures as a function of temperature and magnetic field strength and orientation. We find that the cooperon contribution to this quantum correction is suppressed, and that domain wall motion can be a source of coherence-enhanced conductance fluctuations. The fluctuations are more strongly temperature dependent than those in normal metals, hinting that an unusual de…
We study theoretically the conductance of heterostructures with ferromagnetic conductors (F) and a two dimensional electron gas with Rashba spin-orbit interaction (R) using the Landauer-Büttiker formalism. Assuming a one-dimensional model, we first find the $S$-matrix for the FR interface. This result is then applied to different devices such as a FRF structure, first suggested by Datta and Das[Appl. Phys. Lett. 56, 665 (1990)]. We find analytic results for the conductance for the case of collinear magnetization.
Two-terminal conductance spectroscopy of superconducting devices is a common tool for probing Andreev and Majorana bound states. Here, we study theoretically a three-terminal setup, with two normal leads coupled to a grounded superconducting terminal. Using a single-electron scattering matrix, we derive the subgap conductance matrix for the normal leads and discuss its symmetries. In particular, we show that the local and the nonlocal elements of the conductance matrix have pairwise identical antisymmetric components. Moreover, we find that the nonlocal elements are directly related to the loc…
The helical state is a fundamental prerequisite for many spintronics applications and Majorana zero mode engineering in nanoscopic semiconductors. Its existence in quasi-one-dimensional nanowires was predicted to be detectable as a characteristic reentrant behavior in the conductance, which in a typical two-terminal architecture may be difficult to distinguish from other possible phenomena such as Fabry-Perot oscillations. Here we present an alternative method of helical gap detection free of the mentioned ambiguity, and based on the nonlocal conductance measurements in a three-terminal juncti…
We investigate the chiral edge states in the two-dimensional ferromagntic kagomé lattice with spin anisotropies included. The system is periodic in the $x$ direction but has two edges in the $y$ direction. The Harper equation for solving the energies of edge states is derived. We find that there are two edge states in each bulk energy gap, corresponding to two zero points of the Bloch function on the complex-energy Riemann surface (RS). The edge-state energy loops parametrized by the momentum $k_{x}$ cross the holes of the RS. When the Fermi energy lies in the bulk energy gap, the quantized Ha…
Helical superconductors form a two dimensional, time-reversal invariant topological phase characterized by a Kramers pair of Majorana edge modes (helical Majorana modes). Existing detection schemes to identify this phase rely either on spin transport properties, which are quite difficult to measure, or on local charge transport, which allows only a partial identification. Here we show that the presence of helical Majorana modes can be unambiguously revealed by measuring the nonlocal charge conductance. Focusing on a superconducting ring, we suggest two experiments that provide unique and robus…
We theoretically investigate the effect of the negative differential conductance of a ferromagnetic barrier on the surface of a topological insulator. Due to the changes of the shape and position of the Fermi surfaces in the ferromagnetic barrier, the transport processes can be divided into three kinds: the total, partial and blockade transmission mechanisms. The bias voltage can give rise to the transition of the transport processes from partial to blockade transmission mechanisms, which results in a giant effect of negative differential conductance. With appropriate structural parameters, th…
We study one-dimensional itinerant electron models with ferromagnetic coupling to investigate the origin of 0.7 anomaly in quantum point contacts. Linear conductance calculations from the quantum Monte Carlo technique for spin interactions of different spatial range suggest that $0.7(2e^{2}/h)$ anomaly results from a strong interaction of low-density conduction electrons to ferromagnetic fluctuations formed across the potential barrier. The conductance plateau appears due to the strong incoherent scattering at high temperature when the electron traversal time matches the time scale of dynamic …
Two-dimensional magnets are promising for nanoscale spintronic applications. Currently, most available candidates are based on $3d$ transition metal compounds, with hexagonal or honeycomb lattice geometry. Here, a GdCl$_3$ monolayer with $4f$ moments is theoretically studied, which can be exfoliated from its existing bulk. Its orthorhombic structure and hendecahedral ion cages are unique in two-dimensional. Furthermore, a significant structural reconstruction is caused by the implantation of Li atoms into its interstitial position, which also lead to ferromagnetism via a double-exchange-like p…
Chiral $p$-wave superconductor is the primary example of topological systems hosting chiral Majorana edge states. Although candidate materials exist, the conclusive signature of chiral Majorana edge states has not yet been observed in experiments. Here we propose a smoking-gun experiment to detect the chiral Majorana edge states on the basis of theoretical results for the nonlocal conductance in a device consisting of a chiral $p$-wave superconductor and two ferromagnetic leads. The chiral nature of Majorana edge states causes an anomalously long-range and chirality-sensitive nonlocal transpor…
Kitaev chain (KC) is a prototypical model for the study of Majorana fermions (MFs). In the topological phase, a KC hosts two MFs at its ends. Being separated in space, these two MFs are nonlocal. The nonlocal transport in a KC biased between two normal metal leads is mediated by electron tunneling (ET) and crossed Andreev reflection (CAR). ET contributes positively while CAR contributes negatively to the nonlocal conductance. Enhanced CAR and hence a negative nonlocal conductance is a hallmark of nonlocality of MFs. But simple conductance measurements in the above setup cannot probe the nonloc…
Spin-dependent electronic transport in magnetic double-island devices is considered theoretically in the sequential tunneling regime. Electric current and tunnel magnetoresistance are analyzed as a function of the bias voltage and spin relaxation time in the islands. It is shown that the interplay of spin accumulation on the islands and charging effects leads to periodic modification of the differential conductance and tunnel magnetoresistance. For a sufficiently long spin relaxation time, the modulations are associated with periodic oscillations of the sign of both the tunnel magnetoresistanc…
The current through ferromagnetic single-electron transistors (SET's) is considered. Using path integrals the linear response conductance is formulated as a function of the tunnel conductance vs. quantum conductance and the temperature vs. Coulomb charging energy. The magneto-resistance of ferromagnet-normal metal-ferromagnet (F-N-F) SET's is almost independent of the Coulomb charging energy and is only reduced when the transport dwell time is longer than the spin-flip relaxation time. In all-ferromagnetic (F-F-F) SET's with negligible spin-flip relaxation time the magneto-resistance is calcul…
The charge character of Andreev bound states (ABSs) in a three-terminal semiconductor-superconductor hybrid nanowire was measured using local and nonlocal tunneling spectroscopy. The device is fabricated using an epitaxial InAs/Al two-dimensional heterostructure with several gate-defined side probes. ABSs are found to oscillate around zero as a function of gate voltage, with modifications of their charge consistent with theoretical expectations for the total Bardeen-Cooper- Schrieffer (BCS) charge of ABSs.
We present a theoretical study of heat transport in electrically insulating ferromagnetic wires containing a domain wall. In the regime of validity of continuum micromagnetism a domain wall is found to have no effect on the heat conductance. However, spin waves are found to be reflected by domain walls with widths of a few lattice spacings, which is associated with emergence of an additional spin wave bound state. The resulting domain wall heat conductance should be significant for thin films of Yttrium Iron Garnet with sharply defined magnetic domains.
We study the sub-gap conductance of a ferromagnetic mesoscopic region attached to a ferromagnetic and a superconducting electrode by means of tunnel junctions. In the absence of the exchange field, the ratio $r= γ/ ε_T$ of the two tunnel junction resistances determines the behaviour of the sub-gap conductance which possesses a zero-bias peak for $r\gg 1$ and for $r\ll 1$ a peak at finite voltage. We show that the inclusion of the exchange field leads to a peak splitting for $r\ll 1$, while it shifts the zero-bias anomaly to finite voltages for $r\gg 1$.
We investigate the equilibrium and out-of-equilibrium Kondo effects in a single-level interacting quantum dot connected to two ferromagnetic leads. Within the non-crossing approximation, we calculate the total density of states (DOS), the linear conductance, and the nonlinear differential conductance for both the parallel and the anti-parallel alignments of the spin polarization orientation in the leads, followed by a brief discussion regarding the validity of this approach. Numerical calculations show that for the anti-parallel alignment, a single Kondo peak always appears in the equilibrium …
Recently, different experiments on the transport through atomic-sized contacts made of ferromagnetic materials have produced contradictory results. In particular, several groups have reported the observation of half-integer conductance quantization, which requires having full spin polarization and perfectly conducting channels. Motivated by these surprising results, we have studied theoretically the conductance of ideal atomic contact geometries of the ferromagnetic 3d materials Fe, Co, and Ni using a realistic tight-binding model. Our analysis shows that in the absence of magnetic domains, th…
The effect of the domain wall (DW) on the conductance in a ballistic ferromagnetic nanowire (FMNW) is revisited by exploiting a specific perturbation theory which is effective for a thin DW; the thinness is often the case in currently interested conductance measurements on FMNWs. Including the Hund coupling between carrier spins and local spins in a DW, the conductance of a FMNW in the presence of a very thin DW is calculated within the Landauer-Büttiker formalism. It is revealed that the conductance plateaus are modified significantly, and the switching of the quantization unit from $e^2/h$ t…
We present a circuit model to describe the electron transport through a domain wall in a ferromagnetic nanowire. The domain wall is treated as a coherent 4-terminal device with incoming and outgoing channels of spin up and down and the spin-dependent scattering in the vicinity of the wall is modelled using classical resistances. We derive the conductance of the circuit in terms of general conductance parameters for a domain wall. We then calculate these conductance parameters for the case of ballistic transport through the domain wall, and obtain a simple formula for the domain wall magnetores…
Nonlocal quasiparticle transport in normal-superconductor-normal (NSN) hybrid structures probes sub-gap states in the proximity region and is especially attractive in the context of Majorana research. Conductance measurement provides only partial information about nonlocal response composed from both electron-like and hole-like quasiparticle excitations. In this work, we show how a nonlocal shot noise measurement delivers a missing puzzle piece in NSN InAs nanowire-based devices. We demonstrate that in a trivial superconducting phase quasiparticle response is practically charge-neutral, domina…
We study the nonlocal spin transport in a lateral spin valve with multiple ferromagnetic (FM) electrodes. When two current-injecting and two spin current-detecting electrodes are all ferromagnetic, the number of possible nonlocal spin signal states is four at maximum. In reality, this number is reduced, depending on the inter-probe distance and the relative magnitudes of the spin resistances. Our theoretical results are in agreement with recent experiments of spin injection into an Al island, a carbon nanotube, and graphene.
We study the effect of the ferromagnetic (FM) contacts on the spin accumulation in the lateral spin valve system for the collinear magnetization configurations. When an additional FM electrode is introduced in the all-metallic lateral spin-valve system, we find that the transresistance can be fractionally suppressed or very weakly influenced depending on the position of the additional FM electrode, and relative magnitudes of contact resistance and the bulk resistance defined over the spin diffusion length. Nonlocal spin signals such as nonlocal voltage drop and leakage spin currents are indepe…
We studied phase coherent phenomena in mesoscopic Permalloy samples by exploring low temperature transport. Both, differential conductance as a function of bias voltage and magnetoconductance of individual wires display conductance fluctuations. Analysis of these fluctuations yields a phase coherence length of $\sim250$ nm at 25 mK as well as a $1/\sqrt{T}$ temperature dependence. To suppress conductance fluctuations by ensemble averaging we investigated low temperature transport in wire arrays and extended Permalloy films. In these samples we have measured conductance corrections which stem f…
Ferromagnetic resonance in thin films is analyzed under the influence of spatiotemporal feedback effects. The equation of motion for the magnetization dynamics is nonlocal in both space and time and includes isotropic, anisotropic and dipolar energy contributions as well as the conserved Gilbert- and the non-conserved Bloch-damping. We derive an analytical expression for the peak-to-peak linewidth. It consists of four separate parts originated by Gilbert damping, Bloch-damping, a mixed Gilbert-Bloch component and a contribution arising from retardation. In an intermediate frequency regime the …
We theoretically study the electron transport properties in a ferromagnetic/normal/ferromagnetic tunnel junction, which is deposited on the top of a topological surface. The conductance at the parallel (\textbf{P}) configuration can be much bigger than that at the antiparallel (\textbf{AP}) configuration. Compared \textbf{P} with \textbf{AP} configuration, there exists a shift of phase which can be tuned by gate voltage. We find that the exchange field weakly affects the conductance of carriers for \textbf{P} configuration but can dramatically suppress the conductance of carriers for \textbf{A…
Giant oscillations of the density of electronic states and the differential conductance of a superconductor-ferromagnet-superconductor structure are predicted for the case when the exchange energy, $I_0$, due to the interaction between the electron spin and the spontaneous moment of the ferromagnet is smaller than the superconductor energy gap, $Δ$. The effect is due to the extremely large degeneration of the energy level $ε= I_0$ when the superconductor phase difference $ϕ$ is close to odd multiple of $π$ ($ε$ is the electron energy measured from the Fermi-energy). This quantum interference e…
We study the spin-dependent transport through a quantum dot coupled to two ferromagnetic electrodes using the equation of motion method for the nonequilibrium Green's functions. Our results show that the conductance and the density of states (DOS) are strongly dependent on the configurations of the magnetic electrodes. In parallel configuration of magnetic electrodes the conductance is affected by the spin-flip process and the Coulomb repulsion on the dot. The Kondo peak for spin-dependent transport is splitted into two peaks by the spin-flip process. The locations of the two peaks are symmetr…
We theoretically analyzed the Andreev reflection in ferromagnetic metal/nonmagnetic metal/superconductor double junctions with special attention to the electron interference effect in the nonmagnetic metal layer. We showed that the conductance oscillates as a function of the bias voltage due to the geometrical resonance. We found that the exchange field, and therefore the spin polarization of the ferromagnetic metal can be determined from the period of the conductance oscillation, which is proportional to the square root of the exchange field.
Thermoelectric effects through a serial double quantum dot system weakly coupled to ferromagnetic leads are analyzed. Formal expressions of electrical conductance, thermal conductance, and thermal coefficient are obtained by means of Hubbard operators. The results show that although the thermopower is independent of the polarization of the leads, the figure of merit is reduced by an increase of polarization. The influences of temperature and interdot tunneling on the figure of merit are also investigated, and it is observed that increase of the interdot tunneling strength results in reduction …
Two complementary effects modify the GHz magnetization dynamics of nanoscale heterostructures of ferromagnetic and normal materials relative to those of the isolated magnetic constituents: On the one hand, a time-dependent ferromagnetic magnetization pumps a spin angular-momentum flow into adjacent materials and, on the other hand, spin angular momentum is transferred between ferromagnets by an applied bias, causing mutual torques on the magnetizations. These phenomena are manifestly nonlocal: they are governed by the entire spin-coherent region that is limited in size by spin-flip relaxation …
We propose a model which explains the experimental observation of spontaneous spin polarization of conducting electrons in quasi- one-dimensional GaAs/AlGaAs channels. We show that a ferromagnetic order is a generic property of a quasi-one-dimensional conducting channel embedded in a Wigner crystal. We also discuss gate voltage, magnetic field and temperature dependences of the channel's conductance.
In considering a novel function in ferromagnetic tunnel junctions consisting of ferromagnet(FM)/barrier/FM junctions, we theoretically investigate multiple valued (or multi-level) cell property, which is in principle realized by sensing conductances of four states recorded with magnetization configurations of two FMs; that is, (up,up), (up,down), (down,up), (down, down). To obtain such 4-valued conductances, we propose FM1/spin-polarized barrier/FM2 junctions, where the FM1 and FM2 are different ferromagnets, and the barrier has spin dependence. The proposed idea is applied to the case of the b…
Quantized spin waves, or magnons, in a magnetic insulator are assumed to interact weakly with the surroundings, and to flow with little dissipation or drag, producing exceptionally long diffusion lengths and relaxation times. In analogy to Coulomb drag in bilayer two dimensional electron gases, in which the contribution of the Coulomb interaction to the electric resistivity is studied by measuring the interlayer resistivity (transresistivity), we predict a nonlocal drag of magnons in a ferromagnetic bilayer structure based on semiclassical Boltzmann equations. Nonlocal magnon drag depends on m…
We investigate the linear and nonlinear dc transport through an interacting quantum dot connected to two ferromagnetic electrodes around Kondo regime with spin-flip scattering in the dot. Using a slave-boson mean field approach for the Anderson Hamiltonian having finite on-site Coulomb repulsion, we find that a spin-flip scattering always depresses the Kondo correlation at arbitrary polarization strength in both parallel and antiparallel alignment of the lead magnetization and that it effectively reinforces the tunneling related conductance in the antiparallel configuration. For systems deep i…
We study diffusive transport through ferromagnet - normal metal - ferromagnet (F-N-F) systems, with arbitrary but fixed magnetization directions of the ferromagnetic reservoirs and orientations of a magnetic field applied to the normal metal. For non-collinear configurations, the complex mixing conductance describes the transport of spins non-collinear to the magnetizations of the ferromagnetic reservoirs. When the imaginary part of the mixing conductance is different from zero, the total conductance of the system in the presence of a magnetic field can be asymmetric with respect to time rever…
We study tunneling conductance in ferromagnetic semiconductor/insulator/s-wave superconductor junction where Rashba spin-orbit interaction (RSOI) and exchange field are taken into account in the ferromagnetic semiconductor. We show that normalized conductance at zero voltage has a maximum as a function of RSOI for high transparent interface and finite exchange field. This is because Andreev reflection probability shows a nonmonotonic dependence on RSOI in the presence of the exchange field. On the other hand, for intermediate transparent interface, normalized conductance at zero voltage has a …
We investigate finite temperature corrections to the Landauer formula due to electron-electron interaction within the quantum point contact. When the Fermi level is close to the barrier height, the interaction is strongly enhanced due to semiclassical slowing of the electrons. To describe electron transport we formulate and solve a nonlocal kinetic equation for the density matrix of electrons. The correction to the conductance $G$ is negative and strongly enhanced in the region 0.5*2e^2/h < G < 1*2e^2/h . Our results for conductance agree with the so-called ``0.7 structure'' observed in experi…
We report on an experimental and theoretical study of nonlocal transport in superconductor hybrid structures, where two normal-metal leads are attached to a central superconducting wire. As a function of voltage bias applied to both normal-metal electrodes, we find surprisingly large nonlocal conductance signals, almost of the same magnitude as the local conductance. We demonstrate that these signals are the result of strong heating of the superconducting wire, and that under symmetric bias conditions, heating mimics the effect of Cooper pair splitting.
We have measured the size effect in nonlocal Gilbert relaxation rate in FM(t$_{FM}$) / Cu (5nm) [/ Pt (2nm)] / Al(2nm) heterostructures, FM = \{ Ni$_{81}$Fe$_{19}$, Co$_{60}$Fe$_{20}$B$_{20}$, pure Co\}. Common behavior is observed for three FM layers, where the additional relaxation obeys both a strict inverse power law dependence $ΔG =K \:t^{n}$, $n=-\textrm{1.04}\pm\textrm{0.06}$ and a similar magnitude $K=\textrm{224}\pm\textrm{40 Mhz}\cdot\textrm{nm}$. As the tested FM layers span an order of magnitude in spin diffusion length $λ_{SDL}$, the results are in support of spin diffusion, rathe…
Considerable evidence exists for the failure of the traditional theory of quantum critical points (QCPs), pointing to the need to incorporate novel excitations. The destruction of Kondo entanglement and the concomitant critical Kondo effect may underlie these emergent excitations in heavy fermion metals -- a prototype system for quantum criticality -- but the effect remains poorly understood. Here, we show how ferromagnetic single-electron transistors can be used to study this effect. We theoretically demonstrate a gate-voltage induced quantum phase transition. The critical Kondo effect is man…
We investigate electron transporting through a two-dimensional ferromagnetic/normal/ferromagnetic tunnel junction on the surface of a three-dimensional topological insulator with taking into $δ$ doping account. It is found that the conductance oscillates with the Fermi energy, the position and the aptitude of the $δ$ doping. Also the conductance depends sensitively on the direction of the magnetization of the two ferromagnets, which originate from the control of the spin flow due to spin-momentum locked. It is found that the conductance is the maximum at the parallel configuration while it is …
We study thermoelectric effects in Kondo correlated quantum dot coupled to ferromagnetic electrodes by calculating conductance, thermopower and thermal conductance in the Kondo regime. We also study the effect of the asymmetry in the coupling to the leads, which has important consequences for anti-parallel magnetization configuration. We discuss the thermoelectric figure of merit, tunnel magnetoresistance and violation of the Wiedemann-Franz law in this system. The results agree with recently measured thermopower of the quantum dot defined in a two dimensional electron gas.
Equilibrium transport properties of a single-level quantum dot tunnel-coupled to ferromagnetic leads and exchange-coupled to a side nonmagnetic reservoir are analyzed theoretically in the Kondo regime. The equilibrium spectral functions and conductance through the dot are calculated using the numerical renormalization group (NRG) method. It is shown that in the antiparallel magnetic configuration, the system undergoes a quantum phase transition with increasing exchange coupling $J$, where the conductance drops from its maximum value to zero. In the parallel configuration, on the other hand, th…
Electronic transport in a graphene-based ferromagnetic/normal/ferromagnetic junction is investigated by means of Landauer-Büttiker formulism and the nonequilibrium Green's function technique. For the zigzag edge case, the results show that the conductance is always larger than $e^{2}/h$ for the parallel configuration of lead magnetizations, but for the antiparallel configuration the conductance becomes zero because of the band-selective rule. So a magnetoresistance (MR) plateau emerges with the value 100% when the Fermi energy is located around the Dirac point. Besides, choosing narrower graph…
We study the band structure and transport properties of ferromagnetic tetragonal silicene nanoribbons by using the non-equilibrium Green's function method. The band structure and spin-dependent conductance are discussed under the combined effect of the external electric field, potential energy, exchange field and the spin-orbit coupling. One can easily realize a phase transition from a semimetallic to a semiconducting state by changing the transverse width of the nanoribbon. Separation of spin-dependent conductances arises from the effect of exchange field and the spin-orbit coupling, while ze…
In low-dimensional systems, the combination of reduced dimensionality, strong interactions, and topology has led to a growing number of many-body quantum phenomena. Thermal transport, which is sensitive to all energy-carrying degrees of freedom, provides a discriminating probe of emergent excitations in quantum materials and devices. However, thermal transport measurements in low dimensions are dominated by the phonon contribution of the lattice, requiring an experimental approach to isolate the electronic thermal conductance. Here, we show how the measurement of nonlocal voltage fluctuations …
We have studied charge transport in ferromagnetic Rashba metal (FRM), where both Rashba type spin-orbit coupling (RSOC) and exchange coupling coexist. It has nontrivial metallic states, i.e., normal Rashba metal (NRM), anomalous Rashba metal (ARM), and Rashba ring metal (RRM), and they are manipulated by tuning the Fermi level with an applied gate voltage. We theoretically studied tunneling conductance (G) in a normal metal / FRM junction by changing the Fermi level via an applied gate voltage (Vg) on the FRM. We found a wide variation in the Vg dependence of G, which depends on the metallic s…
