In this paper, we study the weighted sums of multiple t-values and of multiple t-star values at even arguments. Some general weighted sum formulas are given, where the weight coefficients are given by (symmetric) polynomials of the arguments.
We obtain a weighted sum formula of the zeta values at even arguments, and a weighted sum formula of the multiple zeta values with even arguments and its zeta-star analogue. The weight coefficients are given by (symmetric) polynomials of the arguments. These weighted sum formulas for the zeta values and for the multiple zeta values were conjectured by L. Guo, P. Lei and J. Zhao.
In this paper we prove a weighted sum formula for multiple harmonic sums modulo primes, thereby proving a weighted sum formula for finite multiple zeta values. Our proof utilizes difference equations for the generating series of multiple harmonic sums. We also conjecture several weighted sum formulas of similar flavor for finite multiple zeta values.
We derive certain identities involving various known arithmetical functions and a generalized version of Ramanujan sum. L. Toth constructed certain weighted averages of Ramanujan sums with various arithmetic functions as weights. We choose a generalization of Ramanujan sum given by E. Cohen and derive the weighted averages corresponding to the versions of the weighted averages established by Toth.
In this article, we consider weighted sums of generalized polygonal numbers with coefficients $1$ or $2$. We show that for any $m\ge10$, those weighted sums of generalized $m$-gonal numbers represent every non-negative integers if they only represent $1$, $m-4$, and $m-2$. Furthermore, we study representations of sums of four generalized polygonal numbers with coefficients $1$ or $2$.
We obtain a nontrivial bound for cancellations between the Kloosterman sums modulo a large prime power with a prime argument running over very short interval, which in turn is based on a new estimate on bilinear sums of Kloosterman sums. These results are analogues of those obtained by various authors for Kloosterman sums modulo a prime. However the underlying technique is different and allows us to obtain nontrivial results starting from much shorter ranges.
A typical formula of multiple zeta values is the sum formula which expresses a Riemann zeta value as a sum of all multiple zeta values of fixed weight and depth. Recently weighted sum formulas, which are weighted analogues of the sum formula, have been studied by many people. In this paper, we give two formulas of weighted sums with two parameters of multiple zeta values. As applications of the formulas, we find some linear combinations of multiple zeta values which can be expressed as polynomials of usual zeta values with coeffcients in the rational polynomial ring generated by the two parame…
In this paper, we study the multiple $L$-values and the multiple zeta values of level $N$. We set up the algebraic framework for the double shuffle relations of the multiple zeta values of level $N$. Using the regularized double shuffle relations of multiple $L$-values, we give a sum formula and a weighted sum formula of multiple $L$-values. As applications, we give sum formulas and weighted sum formulas of double zeta values of level $2$ and $3$.
Hirose, Saito, and the author established the weighted sum formula for finite multiple zeta(-star) values. In this paper, we present its alternative proof. The proof is also valid for symmetric multiple zeta(-star) values.
We prove explicit upper bounds for weighted sums over prime numbers in arithmetic progressions with slowly varying weight functions. The results generalize the well-known Brun-Titchmarsh inequality.
In this paper, we investigate the asymptotics of a class of weighted sums over multiplicative functions and apply our results to deduce a stronger asymptotic form of Yitang Zhang's smoothened GPY sieve with coefficient expressions that are friendly to numerical computations.
We present a unified approach which gives completely elementary proofs of three weighted sum formulae for double zeta values. This approach also leads to new evaluations of sums relating to the harmonic numbers, the alternating double zeta values, and the Witten zeta function. We discuss a heuristic for finding or dismissing the existence of similar simple sums. We also produce some new sums from recursions involving the Riemann zeta and the Dirichlet beta functions.
The main purpose of this paper is to study higher order moments of the generalized quadratic Gauss sums weighted by $L$-functions using estimates for character sums and analytic methods. We find asymptotic formulas for three character sums which arise naturally in the study of higher order moments of the generalized quadratic Gauss sums. We then use these character sum estimates to find asymptotic formulas for the $\nth{6}$ and $\nth{8}$ order moments of the generalized quadratic Gauss sums weighted by $L$-functions. Our asymptotic formulas satisfy a conjecture of Wenpeng Zhang.
We prove a sum formula with 4 parameters among finite alternating multiple zeta values which can be regarded as an alternating version of the result of Kamano on finite multiple zeta values.
We construct a binary linear code $C(O(3,q))$, associated with the orthogonal group $O(3,q)$. Here $q$ is a power of two. Then we obtain a recursive formula for the odd power moments of Kloosterman sums with trace one arguments in terms of the frequencies of weights in the codes $C(O(3,q))$ and $C(Sp(2,q))$. This is done via Pless power moment identity and by utilizing the explicit expressions of Gauss sums for the orthogonal groups.
We derive weighted summation identities involving the second order recurrence sequence $\{w_n\} =\{ w_n(a,b; p, q)\}$ defined by $w_0 = a,\,w_1 = b;\,w_n = pw_{n - 1} - qw_{n - 2}\, (n \ge 2)$, where $a$, $b$, $p$ and $q$ are arbitrary complex numbers, with $p\ne 0$ and $q\ne 0$.
In this paper, we construct two ternary linear codes associated with the symplectic groups Sp(2,q) and Sp(4,q). Here q is a power of three. Then we obtain recursive formulas for the power moments of Kloosterman sums with square arguments and for the even power moments of those in terms of the frequencies of weights in the codes. This is done via Pless power moment identity and by utilizing the explicit expressions of "Gauss sums" for the symplectic groups Sp(2n,q).
Euler's sum formula and its multi-variable and weighted generalizations form a large class of the identities of multiple zeta values. In this paper we prove a family of identities involving Bernoulli numbers and apply them to obtain infinitely many weighted sum formulas for double zeta values and triple zeta values where the weight coefficients are given by symmetric polynomials. We give a general conjecture in arbitrary depth at the end of the paper.
We study the asymptotic behaviour of the classical Dedekind sums $s(s_k/t_k)$ for the sequence of convergents $s_k/t_k$ $k\ge 0$, of the transcendental number \BD \sum_{j=0}^\infty\frac {1}{b^{2^j}},\ b\ge 3. \ED In particular, we show that there are infinitely many open intervals of constant length such that the sequence $s(s_k/t_k)$ has infinitely many transcendental cluster points in each interval.
Let $\gcd(j,k)$ be the greatest common divisor of the integers $j$ and $k$. In this paper, we give several interesting asymptotic formulas for weighted averages of the $\gcd$-sum function $f(\gcd(j,k)) $ and the function $\sum_{d|k, d^{s}|j}(f*μ)(d) $ for any positive integers $j$ and $k$, namely $$ \sum_{k\leq x}\frac{1}{k^{r+1}}\sum_{j=1}^{k}j^{r}f(\gcd(j,k)) \quad \text{and} \quad \sum_{k\leq x}\frac{1}{k^{s(r+1)}}\sum_{j=1}^{k^s}j^{r} \sum_{\substack{d|k d^{s}|j}}(f*μ)(d), $$ with any fixed integer $s> 1$ and any arithmetical function $f$. We also establish mean value formulas for the erro…
The constant $C_A(n)$ is defined to be the smallest natural number $k$ such that any sequence of $k$ elements in $\mathbb Z_n$ has a subsequence of consecutive terms whose $A$-weighted sum is zero, where the weight set $A\subseteq \mathbb Z_n\setminus \{0\}$. If $C_A(n)=k$, then a sequence in $\mathbb Z_n$ of length $k-1$ which has no $A$-weighted zero-sum subsequence of consecutive terms is called an $A$-extremal sequence. We characterize these sequences for some particular weight sets.
In this paper we use the generating functions and the double shuffle relations satisfied the multiple zeta values to derive some new families of identities.
Using combinatorial techniques, we prove that the weighted sum of the inverse number of automorphisms of all finite abelian $p$-groups $\sum_G |G|^{-u} |\text{Aut}(G)|^{-1}$ is equal to $\prod_{j=u+1}^\infty\left(1-1/p^j\right)^{-1}$, where $u$ is a non-negative integer. This result was originally obtained by H. Cohen and H. W. Lenstra, Jr. In this paper we give a new elementary proof of their result.
Recently, a new kind of multiple zeta value level two $T({\bf k})$ (which is called multiple $T$-values) was introduced and studied by Kaneko and Tsumura. In this paper, we define a kind of alternating version of multiple $T$-values, and study several duality formulas of weighted sum formulas about alternating multiple $T$-values by using the methods of iterated integral representations and series representations. Some special values of alternating multiple $T$-values can also be obtained.
For $k\leq n$, let $E(mn,k)$ be the sum of all multiple zeta values of depth $k$ and weight $mn$ with arguments are multiples of $m\geq 2$. More precisely, $E(mn,k)=\sum_{|\boldsymbolα|=n}ζ(mα_1,mα_2,\ldots, mα_k)$. In this paper, we develop a formula to express $E(mn,k)$ in terms of $ζ(\{m\}^p)$ and $ζ^\star(\{m\}^q)$, $0\leq p,q\leq n$. In particular, we settle Genčev's conjecture on the evaluation of $E(4n,k)$ and also evaluate $E(mn,k)$ explicitly for small even $m\leq 8$.
For a finite abelian group $(G,+)$, the constant $C(G)$ is defined to be the smallest natural number $k$ such that any sequence in $G$ having length $k$ will have a subsequence of consecutive terms whose sum is zero. For a subset $A\subseteq\mathbb Z_n$, the constant $C_A(n)$ is the smallest natural number $k$ such that any sequence in $G$ having length $k$ has an $A$-weighted zero-sum subsequence of consecutive terms. We determine the value of $C_A(n)$ for some particular weight-sets $A$.
In this paper, we establish the following two identities involving the Gamma function and Bernoulli polynomials, namely $$ \sum_{k\leq x}\frac{1}{k^s} \sum_{j=1}^{k^s}\logΓ\left(\frac{j}{k^s}\right) \sum_{\substack{d|k \\ d^{s}|j}}f*μ(d) \quad {\rm and } \quad \sum_{k\leq x}\frac{1}{k^s}\sum_{j=0}^{k^{s}-1} B_{m}\sum_{\substack{d|k \\ d^{s}|j}} f*μ(d) $$ with any fixed integer $s> 1$ and any arithmetical function $f$. We give asymptotic formulas for them with various multiplicative functions $f$. We also consider several formulas of the Dirichlet series associated with the above identities. Th…
For a natural number $m$, generalized $m$-gonal numbers are defined by the formula $p_m(x)=\frac{(m-2)x^2-(m-4)x}{2}$ with $x\in \mathbb Z$. In this paper, we determine a criterion on $a,b,c,m$ for which the weighted ternary sum $P_{a,b,c,m}:=ap_m(x)+bp_m(y)+cp_m(z)$ is almost universal. We also prove for some $a,b,c,m$ that the form $P_{a,b,c,m}$ is not almost universal, while it represents all possible congruence classes.
In this paper, we are going to perform the shuffle products of $Z_-(n) = \sum_{a+b=m} (-1)^{b} ζ(\{1\}^{a},b+2)$ and $Z_+^\star(n) = \sum_{c+d=n} ζ^{\star}(\{1\}^{c},d+2)$ with $m+n = p$. The resulted shuffle relation is a weighted sum formula given by \begin{equation*} \frac{(p+1)(p+2)}{2} ζ(p+4) =\sum_{m+n=p} \sum_{|\boldsymbolα|=p+3} ζ(α_{0}, α_{1}, \ldots, α_{m}, α_{m+1}+1) \sum_{a+b+c=m} \Bigl( W_{\boldsymbolα}(a,b,c) + W_{\boldsymbolα}(a,b,c=0) + W_{\boldsymbolα}(a=0,b,c) + W_{\boldsymbolα}(a=0,b=m,c=0) \Bigr), \end{equation*} where $W_{\boldsymbolα}(a,b,c) = 2^{σ(a+b+1)-σ(a)-(b+1)} (1-2…
Using a property of the q-shifted factorial, an identity for q-binomial coefficients is proved, which is used to derive the formulas for the q-binomial coefficient for negative arguments. The result is in agreement with an earlier paper about the normal binomial coefficient for negative arguments. Some new q-binomial summation identities are derived, and the formulas for negative arguments transform some of these summation identities into each other. One q-binomial summation identity is transformed into a new q-binomial summation identity.
In 1984, Bressoud and Subbarao obtained an interesting weighted partition identity for a generalized divisor function, by means of combinatorial arguments. Recently, the last three named authors found an analytic proof of the aforementioned identity of Bressoud and Subbarao starting from a $q$-series identity of Ramanujan. In the present paper, we revisit the combinatorial arguments of Bressoud and Subbarao, and derive a more general weighted partition identity. Furthermore, with the help of a fractional differential operator, we establish a few more Bressoud-Subbarao type weighted partition i…
In this paper, we obtain formulas for the number of representations of positive integers as sums of arbitrarily many squares (and other polygonal numbers) with a certain natural weighting. The resulting weighted sums give Fourier coefficients of weight two quasimodular forms.
The sum formula is a basic identity of multiple zeta values that expresses a Riemann zeta value as a homogeneous sum of multiple zeta values of a given dimension. This formula was already known to Euler in the dimension two case, conjectured in the early 1990s for higher dimensions and then proved by Granville and Zagier independently. Recently a weighted form of Euler's formula was obtained by Ohno and Zudilin. We generalize it to a weighted sum formula for multiple zeta values of all dimensions.
Let $a$ and $b$ be relatively prime positive integers. In this paper the weighted sum $\sum_{n\in{\rm NR}(a,b)}λ^{n-1}n^m$ is given explicitly or in terms of the Apostol-Bernoulli numbers, where $m$ is a nonnegative integer, and ${\rm NR}(a,b)$ denotes the set of positive integers nonrepresentable in terms of $a$ and $b$.
The multiple T-value, which is a variant of multiple zeta value of level two, is introduced by Kaneko and Tsumura. We show that the generating function of a weighted sum of the multiple T-values of fixed weight and depth is given in terms of the multiple T-values of depth one by solving a differential equation of Heun type.
We show that, modulo some odd prime p, the powers of two weighted sum of the first p-2 divided Bernoulli numbers equals the Agoh-Giuga quotient plus twice the number of permutations on p-2 letters with an even number of ascents and distinct from the identity. We provide a combinatorial characterization of Wieferich primes, as well as of primes p for which p^2 divides the Fermat quotient q_p(2).
For any integer $q\geq 2$ we provide a formula to express indefinite sums of a sequence $(f(n))_{n\geq 0}$ weighted by $q$-periodic sequences in terms of indefinite sums of sequences $(f(qn+p))_{n\geq 0}$, where $p\in\{0,\ldots,q-1\}$. When explicit expressions for the latter sums are available, this formula immediately provides explicit expressions for the former sums. We also illustrate this formula through some examples.
We establish a Mahler-type estimate of weighted Fekete sums on the Berkovich projective line over an algebraically closed field of possibly positive characteristic that is complete with respect to a non-trivial and possibly non-archimedean absolute value.
In this paper, we construct two ternary linear codes $C(SO(3,q))$ and $C(O(3,q))$, respectively associated with the orthogonal groups $SO(3,q)$ and $O(3,q)$. Here $q$ is a power of three. Then we obtain two recursive formulas for the power moments of Kloosterman sums with $``$trace nonzero square arguments" in terms of the frequencies of weights in the codes. This is done via Pless power moment identity and by utilizing the explicit expressions of Gauss sums for the orthogonal groups.
Let $G$ be an additive finite abelian group and $Γ\subset \operatorname{End} (G)$ be a subset of the endomorphism group of $G$. A sequence $S = g_1 \cdot \ldots \cdot g_{\ell}$ over $G$ is a ($Γ$-)weighted zero-sum sequence if there are $γ_1, \ldots, γ_{\ell} \in Γ$ such that $γ_1 (g_1) + \ldots + γ_{\ell} (g_{\ell})=0$. We construct transfer homomorphisms from norm monoids (of Galois algebraic number fields with Galois group $Γ$) and from monoids of positive integers, represented by binary quadratic forms, to monoids of weighted zero-sum sequences. Then we study algebraic and arithmetic prope…
In this paper, we construct three ternary linear codes associated with the orthogonal group O^-(2,q) and the special orthogonal groups SO^-(2,q) and SO^-(4,q). Here q is a power of three. Then we obtain recursive formulas for the power moments of Kloosterman sums with square arguments and for the even power moments of those in terms of the frequencies of weights in the codes. This is done via Pless power moment identity and by utilizing the explicit expressions of "Gauss sums" for the orthogonal and special orthogonal groups O^-(2n,q) and SO^-(2n,q).
In this paper, we construct eight infinite families of ternary linear codes associated with double cosets with respect to certain maximal parabolic subgroup of the special orthogonal group $SO^{-}(2n,q)$. Here ${q}$ is a power of three. Then we obtain four infinite families of recursive formulas for power moments of Kloosterman sums with square arguments and four infinite families of recursive formulas for even power moments of those in terms of the frequencies of weights in the codes. This is done via Pless power moment identity and by utilizing the explicit expressions of exponential sums ov…
In this paper, we construct an infinite family of binary linear codes associated with double cosets with respect to certain maximal parabolic subgroup of the orthogonal group O(2n+1,q).
