As a natural generalization of the Euler-Mascheroni constant $γ$, Y. Ihara introduced the Euler-Kronecker constant $γ_K$ attached to any number field $K$. In this paper, we prove that a certain bound on $γ_K$ in a tower of number fields $\mathcal{K}$ implies the generalized Brauer-Siegel conjecture for $\mathcal{K}$ as formulated by Tsfasman and Vlǎduţ. Moreover, we use known bounds on $γ_K$ for cyclotomic fields to obtain a finer estimate for the number of zeros of the Dedekind zeta-function $ζ_K(s)$ in the critical strip.
In 2002, M. A. Tsfasman and S. G. Vlăduţ formulated the generalized Brauer-Siegel conjecture for asymptotically exact families of number fields. In this article, we establish this conjecture for asymptotically good towers and asymptotically bad families of number fields with solvable normal closure.
In this article, we prove a generalisation of the Mertens theorem for prime numbers to number fields and algebraic varieties over finite fields, paying attention to the genus of the field (or the Betti numbers of the variety), in order to make it tend to infinity and thus to point out the link between it and the famous Brauer-Siegel theorem. Using this we deduce an explicit version of the generalised Brauer-Siegel theorem under GRH, and a unified proof of this theorem for asymptotically exact families of almost normal number fields.
We prove an analogue of the Brauer-Siegel theorem for the Legendre elliptic curves over $\mathbb{F}_q(t)$. More precisely, if $d$ is an integer coprime to $q$, we denote by $E_d$ the elliptic curve with model $y^2=x(x+1)(x+t^d)$ over $K=\mathbb{F}_q(t)$. We give an asymptotic estimate of the product of the order of the Tate-Shafarevich group of $E_d$ (which is known to be finite) with its Néron-Tate regulator, in terms of the exponential differential height of $E_d$, as $d\to\infty$.
In \cite{S}, Shyr derived an analogue of Dirichlet's class number formula for arithmetic Tori. We use this formula to derive a Brauer-Siegel formula for Tori, relating the Discriminant of a torus to the product of its regulator and class number. We apply this formula to derive asymptotics and lower bounds for Galois orbits of CM points in the Siegel modular variety $A_{g,1}$. Specifically, we ask that the sizes of these orbits grows like a power of Discriminant of the underlying endomorphism algebra. We prove an analogue of the Brauer-Siegel theorem for Fermat surfaces over a finite field. Namely, letting $F_d$ be the Fermat surface of degree $d$ over $\mathbb{F}_q$ and $p_g(F_d)$ be its geometric genus, we consider the product of the order of the Brauer group $\mathrm{Br}(F_d)$ of $F_d$ times the absolute value of a Gram determinant of the Néron-Severi group of $F_d$ with respect to the intersection form (the regulator $\mathrm{Reg}(F_d)$ of $F_d$). The classical Brauer-Siegel theorem states that if $k$ runs through the sequence of normal extensions of $\mathbb{Q}$ such that $n_k/\log|D_k|\to 0,$ then $\log h_k R_k/\log \sqrt{|D_k|}\to 1.$ First, in this paper we obtain the generalization of the Brauer-Siegel and Tsfasman-Vlăduţ theorems to the case of almost normal number fields. Hindry has proposed an analogue of the classical Brauer-Siegel theorem for abelian varieties over global fields. Roughly speaking, it says that the product of the regulator of the Mordell-Weil group and the order of the Tate-Shafarevich group should have size similar to the exponential differential height. Hindry-Pacheco and Griffon have proved this for certain families of elliptic curves over function fields using analytic techniques. For a finite field $\mathbb{F}_q$ of characteristic $p\geq 5$ and $K=\mathbb{F}_q(t)$, we consider the family of elliptic curves $E_d$ over $K$ given by $y^2+xy - t^dy=x^3$ for all integers $d$ coprime to $q$. We provide an explicit expression for the $L$-functions of these curves in terms of Jacobi sums. The paper has two purposes. First, we start to develop a theory of infinite global fields, i.e., of infinite algebraic extensions either of ${\mathbb{Q}}$ or of ${\mathbb{F}}_r(t)$. We produce a series of invariants of such fields, and we introduce and study a kind of zeta-function for them. Second, for sequences of number fields with growing discriminant we prove generalizations of the Odlyzko--Serre bounds and of the Brauer--Siegel theorem, taking into account non-archimedean places. In this paper we study asymptotic properties of families of zeta and $L$-functions over finite fields. We do it in the context of three main problems: the basic inequality, the Brauer--Siegel type results and the results on distribution of zeroes. We generalize to this abstract setting the results of Tsfasman, Vlăduţ and Lachaud, who studied similar problems for curves and (in some cases) for varieties over finite fields. In the classical case of zeta functions of curves we extend a result of Ihara on the limit behaviour of the Euler--Kronecker constant. Our results also apply to $L$-functions…
We establish a general Kronecker limit formula of arbitrary rank over global function fields with Drinfeld period domains playing the role of upper-half plane. The Drinfeld-Siegel units come up as equal characteristic modular forms replacing the classical $Δ$. This leads to analytic means of deriving a Colmez-type formula for "stable Taguchi height" of CM Drinfeld modules having arbitrary rank. A Lerch-Type formula for "totally real" function fields is also obtained, with the Heegner cycle on the Bruhat-Tits buildings intervene. The main goal of this paper is to prove a formula that expresses the limit behaviour of Dedekind zeta functions for $\Re s > 1/2$ in families of number fields, assuming that the Generalized Riemann Hypothesis holds. This result can be viewed as a generalization of the Brauer--Siegel theorem. As an application we obtain a limit formula for Euler--Kronecker constants in families of number fields.
We prove the first known nontrivial bounds on the sizes of the 2-torsion subgroups of the class groups of cubic and higher degree number fields $K$ (the trivial bound being $O_ε(|{\rm Disc}(K)|^{1/2+ε})$ by Brauer--Siegel). For a finite abelian p-group A of rank d, we define its (logarithmic) mean exponent to be the base-p logarithm of the d-th root of its cardinality. We study the behavior of the mean exponent of p-class groups in towers of number fields. By combining techniques from group theory with the Tsfasman-Valdut generalization of the Brauer-Siegel Theorem, we construct infinite tamely ramified towers in which the mean exponent of class groups remains bounded.
