We associate to each Temperley-Lieb-Jones C*-tensor category $\mathcal{T}\!\mathcal{L}\mathcal{J}(δ)$ with parameter $δ$ in the discrete range $\{2\cos(π/(k+2))\,:\,k=1,2,\ldots\}\cup\{2\}$ a certain C*-algebra $\mathcal{B}$ of compact operators. We use the unitary braiding on $\mathcal{T}\!\mathcal{L}\mathcal{J}(δ)$ to equip the category $\mathrm{Mod}_{\mathcal{B}}$ of (right) Hilbert $\mathcal{B}$-modules with the structure of a braided C*-tensor category. We show that $\mathcal{T}\!\mathcal{L}\mathcal{J}(δ)$ is equivalent, as a braided C*-tensor category, to the full subcategory $\mathrm{Mod}_{\mathcal{B}}^f$ of $\mathrm{Mod}_{\mathcal{B}}$ whose objects are those modules which admit a finite orthonormal basis. Finally, we indicate how these considerations generalize to arbitrary finitely generated rigid braided C*-tensor categories.
The virtual knot theory is a new interesting subject in the recent study of low dimensional topology. In this paper, we explore the algebraic structure underlying the virtual braid group and call it the virtual Temperley--Lieb algebra which is an extension of the Temperley--Lieb algebra by adding the group algebra of the symmetrical group. We make a connection clear between the Brauer algebra and virtual Temperley--Lieb algebra, and show the algebra generated by permutation and its partial transpose to be an example for the virtual Temperley--Lieb algebra and its important quotients.
Guided by consideration of problems in 2 and 3 dimensional lattice model computation, we are led to define a number of new categories, and functors between these categories and the partition category, culminating in the introduction of two categories generalising the Temperley-Lieb category. We show how to compute practically in these categories, by giving a combinatorial realisation of their (topological) construction.
We show that the Temperley-Lieb algebra is constructed from the generators of the transverse-field Ising-type bond algebra. It is also shown that, when we take the representation of the generators to the one-dimensional transverse-field Ising model, then the Temperley-Lieb algebra constructed on three consecutive bond generators becomes the XXZ model. Furthermore, we obtain several integrable spin systems from other representations for the bond generators.
Graham and Lehrer (1998) introduced a Temperley-Lieb category $\mathsf{\widetilde{TL}}$ whose objects are the non-negative integers and the morphisms in $\mathsf{Hom}(n,m)$ are the link diagrams from $n$ to $m$ nodes. The Temperley-Lieb algebra $\mathsf{TL}_{n}$ is identified with $\mathsf{Hom}(n,n)$. The category $\mathsf{\widetilde{TL}}$ is shown to be monoidal. We show that it is also a braided category by constructing explicitly a commutor. A twist is also defined on $\mathsf{\widetilde{TL}}$. We introduce a module category ${\text{ Mod}_{\mathsf{\widetilde{TL}}}}$ whose objects are functo…
We study a class of quantum channels arising from the representation theory of compact quantum groups that we call Temperley-Lieb quantum channels. These channels simultaneously extend those introduced in [BC18], [AN14], and [LS14]. (Quantum) Symmetries in quantum information theory arise naturally from many points of view, providing an important source of new examples of quantum phenomena, and also serve as useful tools to simplify or solve important problems. This work provides new applications of quantum symmetries in quantum information theory. Among others, we study entropies and capaciti…
In this paper, we focus on a class of quantum channels which are covariant for symmetries from free orthogonal quantum groups $O_N^+$. These quantum channels are called $O_N^+$-Temperley-Lieb channels, and their information-theoretic properties such as Holevo information and coherent information were analyzed in [BCLY20], but their additivity questions remained open. The main result of this paper is to approximate $O_N^+$-Temperley-Lieb quantum channels by much simpler ones in terms Bures distance. As applications, we study strong additivity questions for $O_N^+$-Temperley-Lieb quantum channel…
New sets of rank n-representations of Temperley-Lieb algebra TL_N(q) are constructed. They are characterized by two matrices obeying a generalization of the complex Hadamard property. Partial classifications for the two matrices are given, in particular when they reduce to Fourier or Butson matrices.
We consider the integrable dilute Temperley-Lieb (dTL) O($n=1$) loop model on a semi-infinite strip of finite width $L$. In the analogy with the Temperley-Lieb (TL) O($n=1$) loop model the ground state eigenvector of the transfer matrix is studied by means of a set of $q$-difference equations, sometimes called the $q$KZ equations. We compute some ground state components of the transfer matrix of the dTL model, and show that all ground state components can be recovered for arbitrary $L$ using the $q$KZ equation and certain recurrence relation. The computations are done for generic open boundary…
We classify non-operatorial matrices K solving Skylanin's quantum reflection equation for all R-matrices obtained from the newly defined general rank- n Hadamard type representations of the Temperley-Lieb algebra $TL_N(\sqrt n)$. They are characterized by a universal set of algebraic equations in a specific canonical basis uniquely defined from the "Master matrix" associated to the chosen realization of Temperley-Lieb algebra
We use the algebraic Bethe ansatz to obtain the eigenvalues and eigenvectors of the spin-1 Temperley-Lieb open quantum chain with "free" boundary conditions. We exploit the associated reflection algebra in order to prove the off-shell equation satisfied by the Bethe vectors.
The general solutions of the reflection equation associated with Temperley-Lieb $R$-matrices are constructed. Their parametrization is defined and the Hamiltonians of corresponding integrable spin systems are given.
In this work we introduce a novel q-deformation of the Virasoro algebra expressed in terms of free fermions, we then realize that this algebra, when the deformation parameter is a root of unity can be realized exactly on the lattice. We then study the relations existing between this lattice deformed Virasoro algebra at roots of unity and the tower of commuting Temperley-Lieb hamiltonians introduced in a previous work.
We study the two-boundary Temperley--Lieb $O(n)$ loop model on Kazhdan--Lusztig bases of type A and B. We obtain explicit expressions of the ground state of the two-boundary Temperley--Lieb Hamiltonian by means of a coideal subalgebra of $U_q(\mathfrak{sl}_2)$. This ground state possesses a positive integral property. We conjecture that some components of the ground state are directly related to an enumeration of binary or permutation matrices.
A new spin-chain representation of the Temperley-Lieb algebra $TL_n(β=0)$ is introduced and related to the dimer model. Unlike the usual XXZ spin-chain representations of dimension $2^n$, this dimer representation is of dimension $2^{n-1}$. A detailed analysis of its structure is presented and found to yield indecomposable zigzag modules.
In this paper we study the spectrum of the spin-1 Temperley-Lieb spin chain with integrable open boundary conditions. We obtain the eigenvalue expressions as well as its associated Bethe ansatz equations by means of the coordinate Bethe ansatz. These equations provide the complete description of the spectrum of the model.
We study Slavnov's inner products for open Temperley-Lieb chains and their relations with the KP hierarchy. We show that when (s=1/2) the quantum group invariant XXZ spin chain has Slavnov products given by the quotient of tau functions. The Schur polynomials expansion and a matrix construction for the Baker-Akhiezer functions are also briefly considered.
This article concerns a generalization of the Temperley-Lieb algebra, important in applications to conformal field theory. We call this algebra the valenced Temperley-Lieb algebra. We prove salient facts concerning this algebra and its representation theory, which are both of independent interest and used in our subsequent work, where we uniquely and explicitly characterize the monodromy invariant correlation functions of certain conformal field theories.
This work concerns the boundary integrability of the ${\cal{U}}_{q}[osp(1|2)]$ Temperley-Lieb model. We constructed the solutions of the graded reflection equations in order to determine the boundary terms of the correspondig spin-1 Hamiltonian. We obtain the eigenvalue expressions as well as its associated Bethe ansatz equations by means of the coordinate Bethe ansatz. These equations provide the complete description of the spectrum of the model with diagonal integrable boundaries.
We discuss one-dimensional stochastic processes defined through the Temperley-Lieb algebra related to the Q=1 Potts model. For various boundary conditions, we formulate a conjecture relating the probability distribution which describes the stationary state, to the enumeration of a symmetry class of alternating sign matrices, objects that have received much attention in combinatorics.
We present in detail a recent conjecture on self-adjoint representations of the Temperley-Lieb algebra for particular values on the unit circle. The formulation in terms of graphical calculus is emphasized and discussed for several examples. The role of PT (parity and time reversal) invariance is highlighted as it might prove important for generalising the construction to other cases.
In this paper, we explore algebraic structures and low dimensional topology underlying quantum information and computation. We revisit quantum teleportation from the perspective of the braid group, the symmetric group and the virtual braid group, and propose the braid teleportation, the teleportation swapping and the virtual braid teleportation, respectively. Besides, we present a physical interpretation for the braid teleportation and explain it as a sort of crossed measurement. On the other hand, we propose the extended Temperley--Lieb diagrammatical approach to various topics including quan…
Orthogonal projections in ${\mathbb C}^n \otimes {\mathbb C}^n$ of rank one and rank two that give rise to unitary tensor space representations of the Temperley-Lieb algebra $TL_N(Q)$ are considered. In the rank one case, a complete classification of solutions is given. In the rank two case, solutions with $Q$ varying in the ranges $[2n/3,\infty)$ and $[n/\sqrt{2},\infty)$ are constructed for $n=3k$ and $n=4k$, $k \in {\mathbb N}$, respectively.
The centralizer of the image of the diagonal embedding of $U_q(\mathfrak{sl}_2)$ in the tensor product of three irreducible representations is examined in a Schur-Weyl duality spirit. The aim is to offer a description in terms of generators and relations. A conjecture in this respect is offered with the centralizers presented as quotients of the Askey-Wilson algebra. Support for the conjecture is provided by an examination of the representations of the quotients. The conjecture is also shown to be true in a number of cases thereby exhibiting in particular the Temperley-Lieb, Birman-Murakami-We…
The Temperley-Lieb (TL) family of algebras is well known for its role in building integrable lattice models. Even though a proof is still missing, it is agreed that these models should go to conformal field theories in the thermodynamic limit and that the limiting vector space should carry a representation of the Virasoro algebra. The fusion rules are a notable feature of the Virasoro algebra. One would hope that there is an analogous construction for the TL family. Such a construction was proposed by Read and Saleur [Nucl. Phys. B 777, 316 (2007)] and partially computed by Gainutdinov and Vas…
We determine the spectra of a class of quantum spin chains of Temperley-Lieb type by utilizing the concept of Temperley-Lieb equivalence with the S=1/2 XXZ chain as a reference system. We consider open boundary conditions and in particular periodic boundary conditions. For both types of boundaries the identification with XXZ spectra is performed within isomorphic representations of the underlying Temperley-Lieb algebra. For open boundaries the spectra of these models differ from the spectrum of the associated XXZ chain only in the multiplicities of the eigenvalues. The periodic case is rather …
Inspired by earlier works on representations of the Temperley-Lieb algebra we introduce a novel family of representations of the algebra. This may be seen as a generalization of the so called asymmetric twin representation. The underlying symmetry algebra is also examined and it is shown that in addition to certain obvious exact quantum symmetries non trivial quantum algebraic realizations that exactly commute with the representation also exist. Non trivial representations of the boundary Temperley-Lieb algebra as well as the related residual symmetries are also discussed. The corresponding no…
In two-dimensional loop models, the scaling properties of critical random curves are encoded in the correlators of connectivity operators. In the dense O($n$) loop model, any such operator is naturally associated to a standard module of the periodic Temperley-Lieb algebra. We introduce a new family of representations of this algebra, with connectivity states that have two marked points, and argue that they define the fusion of two standard modules. We obtain their decomposition on the standard modules for generic values of the parameters, which in turn yields the structure of the operator prod…
Fusion product originates in the algebraisation of the operator product expansion in conformal field theory. Read and Saleur (2007) introduced an analogue of fusion for modules over associative algebras, for example those appearing in the description of 2d lattice models. The article extends their definition for modules over the affine Temperley-Lieb algebra $\atl n$. Since the regular Temperley-Lieb algebra $\tl n$ is a subalgebra of the affine $\atl n$, there is a natural pair of adjoint induction-restriction functors $(\Indar{}, \Resar{})$. The existence of an algebra morphism $ϕ:\atl n\to\…
This is the second part of our study of the ground state eigenvector of the transfer matrix of the dilute Temperley-Lieb loop model with the loop weight $n=1$ on a semi infinite strip of width $L$. We focus here on the computation of the normalization (otherwise called the sum rule) $Z_L$ of the ground state eigenvector, which is also the partition function of the critical site percolation model. The normalization $Z_L$ is a symmetric polynomial in the inhomogeneities of the lattice $z_1,..,z_L$. This polynomial satisfies several recurrence relations which we solve independently in terms of Ja…
An $N$ ${L} \choose {L/2}$-dimensional representation of the periodic Temperley-Lieb algebra $TL_L(x)$ is presented. It is also a representation of the cyclic group $Z_N$. We choose $x = 1$ and define a Hamiltonian as a sum of the generators of the algebra acting in this representation. This Hamiltonian gives the time evolution operator of a stochastic process. In the finite-size scaling limit, the spectrum of the Hamiltonian contains representations of the Virasoro algebra with complex highest weights. The $N = 3$ case is discussed in detail. One discusses shortly the consequences of the exis…
Using a braid group representation based on the Temperley-Lieb algebra, we construct braid quantum gates that could generate entangled $n$-partite $D$-level qudit states. $D$ different sets of $D^n\times D^n$ unitary representation of the braid group generators are presented. With these generators the desired braid quantum gates are obtained. We show that the generalized GHZ states, which are maximally entangled states, can be obtained directly from these braid quantum gates without resorting to further local unitary transformations. We also point out an interesting observation, namely for a g…
A relation for the Jones-Wenzl projector is proven. It has the following consequence for representations of the Temperley-Lieb algebra on tensor product spaces: if such a representation is built from a Hermitian $n \times n$ matrix $T$ of rank $r$ such that $T^2=Q T$, then either $n^2 = Q^2 r$ and $Q^2 =1,2,3$ or $n^2 \geq 4 r$. For the latter class of representations, new examples are found. This includes explicit examples for $r=2,3,4$ and any $n \geq r$ (with one exception) and a solution for $n=r+1$ with arbitrary $r$.
We give an exact spectral equivalence between the quantum group invariant XXZ chain with arbitrary left boundary term and the same XXZ chain with purely diagonal boundary terms. This equivalence, and a further one with a link pattern Hamiltonian, can be understood as arising from different representations of the one-boundary Temperley-Lieb algebra. For a system of size L these representations are all of dimension 2^L and, for generic points of the algebra, equivalent. However at exceptional points they can possess different indecomposable structures. We study the centralizer of the one-boundar…
We define new diagram algebras providing a sequence of multiparameter generalisations of the Temperley-Lieb algebra, suitable for the modelling of dilute lattice systems of two-dimensional Statistical Mechanics. These algebras give a rigorous foundation to the various "multi-colour algebras" of Grimm, Pearce and others. We determine the generic representation theory of the simplest of these algebras, and locate the nongeneric cases (at roots of unity of the corresponding parameters). We show by this example how the method used (Martin's general procedure for diagram algebras) may be applied to…
We explore algebraic and topological structures underlying the quantum teleportation phenomena by applying the braid group and Temperley--Lieb algebra. We realize the braid teleportation configuration, teleportation swapping and virtual braid representation in the standard description of the teleportation. We devise diagrammatic rules for quantum circuits involving maximally entangled states and apply them to three sorts of descriptions of the teleportation: the transfer operator, quantum measurements and characteristic equations, and further propose the Temperley--Lieb algebra under local uni…
The hamiltonian of the $N$-state superintegrable chiral Potts (SICP) model is written in terms of a coupled algebra defined by $N-1$ types of Temperley-Lieb generators. This generalises a previous result for $N=3$ obtained by J. F. Fjelstad and T. Månsson [J. Phys. A {\bf 45} (2012) 155208]. A pictorial representation of a related coupled algebra is given for the $N=3$ case which involves a generalisation of the pictorial presentation of the Temperley-Lieb algebra to include a pole around which loops can become entangled. For the two known representations of this algebra, the $N=3$ SICP chain …
The two boundary Temperley-Lieb algebra $TL_k$ arises in the transfer matrix formulation of lattice models in Statistical Mechanics, in particular in the introduction of integrable boundary terms to the six-vertex model. In this paper, we classify and study the calibrated representations---those for which all the Murphy elements (integrals) are simultaneously diagonalizable---which, in turn, corresponds to diagonalizing the transfer matrix in the associated model. Our approach is founded upon the realization of $TL_k$ as a quotient of the type $C_k$ affine Hecke algebra $H_k$. In previous work…
Both the original Temperley-Lieb algebras $\mathsf{TL}_{n}$ and their dilute counterparts $\mathsf{dTL}_{n}$ form families of filtered algebras: $\mathsf{TL}_{n}\subset \mathsf{TL}_{n+1}$ and $\mathsf{dTL}_{n}\subset\mathsf{dTL}_{n+1}$, for all $n\geq 0$. For each such inclusion, the restriction and induction of every finite-dimensional indecomposable module over $\mathsf{TL}_{n}$ (or $\mathsf{dTL}_{n}$) is computed. To accomplish this, a thorough description of each indecomposable is given, including its projective cover and injective hull, some short exact sequences in which it appears, its …
Important developments in fault-tolerant quantum computation using the braiding of anyons have placed the theory of braid groups at the very foundation of topological quantum computing. Furthermore, the realization by Kauffman and Lomonaco that a specific braiding operator from the solution of the Yang-Baxter equation, namely the Bell matrix, is universal implies that in principle all quantum gates can be constructed from braiding operators together with single qubit gates. In this paper we present a new class of braiding operators from the Temperley-Lieb algebra that generalizes the Bell matr…
We study a two-boundary extension of the Temperley-Lieb algebra which has recently arisen in statistical mechanics. This algebra lies in a quotient of the affine Hecke algebra of type C and has a natural diagrammatic representation. The algebra has three parameters and, for generic values of these, we determine its representation theory. We use the action of the centre of the affine Hecke algebra to show that all irreducible representations lie within a finite dimensional diagrammatic quotient. These representations are fully characterised by an additional parameter related to the action of th…
A Temperley-Lieb algebra is extracted from the operator structure of a new class of $N^{2}\times N^{2}$ braid matrices presented and studied in previous papers and designated as $S\hat{O}_{(q)}(N)$, $S\hat{p}%_{(q)}(N)$ for the q-deformed orthogonal and symplectic cases respectively. Spin chain Hamiltonians are derived from such braid matrices and the corresponding chains are studied. Time evolutions of the chains and the possibility of transition of data encoded in the parameters of mixed states from one end to the other are analyzed. The entanglement entropies $% S(q,N)$ of eigenstates of th…
We study the q-deformed Knizhnik-Zamolodchikov equation in path representations of the Temperley-Lieb algebras. We consider two types of open boundary conditions, and in both cases we derive factorised expressions for the solutions of the qKZ equation in terms of Baxterised Demazurre-Lusztig operators. These expressions are alternative to known integral solutions for tensor product representations. The factorised expressions reveal the algebraic structure within the qKZ equation, and effectively reduce it to a set of truncation conditions on a single scalar function. The factorised expressions…
We study a quantum chain of spin-1/2 particles whose world lines form a loop gas. In addition to the usual interaction that projects a pair of neighboring spins onto quantum-group spin 0, we introduce a three-site interaction that projects onto spin 3/2. Changing the relative strengths of these interactions leads to a rich phase diagram containing gapped and critical phases, and exactly solvable points. For loop weight $n=2 \cos [π/(p+1)]$, the model corresponds to N=p-3 species of interacting anyons, of which only the Fibonacci case N=1 was studied previously. Our study applies to real n, and…

The affine Temperley-Lieb algebra $\mathsf{a}\hskip-1.8pt\mathsf{TL}_{N}(β)$ is an infinite-dimensional algebra parametrized by a number $β\in \mathbb{C}$ and an integer $N\in \mathbb{N}$. It naturally acts on $(\mathbb{C}^2)^{\otimes N}$ to produce a family of representations labeled by an additional parameter $z\in\mathbb C^\times$. The structure of these representations, which were first introduced by Pasquier and Saleur in their study of spin chains, is here made explicit. They share their composition factors with the cellular $\mathsf{a}\hskip-1.8pt\mathsf{TL}_{N}(β)$-modules of Graham an…
The Temperley-Lieb algebra \tln(β) can be defined as the set of rectangular diagrams with n points on each of their vertical sides, with all points joined pairwise by non-intersecting strings. The multiplication is then the concatenation of diagrams. The dilute Temperley-Lieb algebra \dtl n(β) has a similar diagrammatic definition where, now, points on the sides may remain free of strings. Like \tl n, the dilute \dtl n depends on a parameter β\in\mathbb C, often given as β=q+q^{-1} for some q\in\mathbb C^\times. In statistical physics, the algebra plays a central role in the study of dilute lo…
Finite Temperley-Lieb (TL) algebras are diagram-algebra quotients of (the group algebra of) the famous Artin's braid group $B_N$, while the affine TL algebras arise as diagram algebras from a generalized version of the braid group. We study asymptotic `$N\to\infty$' representation theory of these quotients (parametrized by $q\in\mathbb{C}^{\times}$) from a perspective of braided monoidal categories. Using certain idempotent subalgebras in the finite and affine algebras, we construct infinite `arc' towers of the diagram algebras and the corresponding direct system of representation categories, …
We consider the Temperley-Lieb (TL) open quantum spin chain with "free" boundary conditions associated with the spin-$s$ representation of quantum-deformed $sl(2)$. We construct the transfer matrix, and determine its eigenvalues and the corresponding Bethe equations using analytical Bethe ansatz. We show that the transfer matrix has quantum group symmetry, and we propose explicit formulas for the number of solutions of the Bethe equations and the degeneracies of the transfer-matrix eigenvalues. We propose an algebraic Bethe ansatz construction of the off-shell Bethe states, and we conjecture t…
We study finite loop models on a lattice wrapped around a cylinder. A section of the cylinder has N sites. We use a family of link modules over the periodic Temperley-Lieb algebra EPTL_N(β, α) introduced by Martin and Saleur, and Graham and Lehrer. These are labeled by the numbers of sites N and of defects d, and extend the standard modules of the original Temperley-Lieb algebra. Beside the defining parameters β=u^2+u^{-2} with u=e^{iλ/2} (weight of contractible loops) and α(weight of non-contractible loops), this family also depends on a twist parameter v that keeps track of how the defects w…
Unitary representations of the Temperley-Lieb algebra $TL_N(Q)$ on the tensor space $({\mathbb C^n})^{\otimes N}$ are considered. Two criteria are given for determining when an orthogonal projection matrix $P$ of a rank $r$ gives rise to such a representation. The first of them is the equality of traces of certain matrices and the second is the unitary condition for a certain partitioned matrix. Some estimates are obtained on the lower bound of $Q$ for a given dimension $n$ and rank $r$. It is also shown that if $4r>n^2$, then $Q$ can take only a discrete set of values determined by the value …
The equivalent of fusion in boundary conformal field theory (CFT) can be realized quite simply in the context of lattice models by essentially glueing two open spin chains. This has led to many developments, in particular in the context of chiral logarithmic CFT. We consider in this paper a possible generalization of the idea to the case of bulk conformal field theory. This is of course considerably more difficult, since there is no obvious way of merging two closed spin chains into a big one. In an earlier paper, two of us had proposed a "topological" way of performing this operation in the c…
