Measurement of the average very forward energy as a function of the track multiplicity at central pseudorapidities in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s} =$ 13 TeV
The average total energy as well as its hadronic and electromagnetic components are measured with the CMS detector at pseudorapidities $-$6.6 $<$ $η$ $<-$5.2 in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s} =$ 13 TeV. The results are presented as a function of the charged particle multiplicity in the region $|η|$ $<$ 2. This measurement is sensitive to correlations induced by the underlying event structure over a very wide pseudorapidity region. The predictions of Monte Carlo event generators commonly used in collider experiments and ultra-high energy cosmic ray physics are compared to the data. All generators considered overestimate the fraction of energy going into hadrons.
The pseudorapidity distribution of charged hadrons in pp collisions at sqrt(s) =13 TeV is measured using a data sample obtained with the CMS detector, operated at zero magnetic field, at the CERN LHC. The yield of primary charged long-lived hadrons produced in inelastic pp collisions is determined in the central region of the CMS pixel detector (abs(eta)<2) using both hit pairs and reconstructed tracks. For central pseudorapidities (abs(eta)<0.5), the charged-hadron multiplicity density is dN/d(eta)[charged,abs(eta) < 0.5] = 5.49 +/- 0.01 (stat) +/- 0.17 (sys), a value obtained by combining th…
We have used the CLEO II detector to study the multiplicity of charged particles in the decays of B mesons produced at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance. Using a sample of 1.5 x 10^6 B meson pairs, we find the mean inclusive charged particle multiplicity to be 10.71 +- 0.02 +0.21/-0.15 for the decay of the pair. This corresponds to a mean multiplicity of 5.36 +- 0.01 +0.11/-0.08 for a single B meson. Using the same data sample, we have also extracted the mean multiplicities in semileptonic and nonleptonic decays. We measure a mean of 7.82 +- 0.05 +0.21/-0.19 charged particles per $B\bar{B}$ decay when bot…
A search is presented for microscopic black holes in a like-sign dimuon final state in proton--proton collisions at sqrt(s)= 8 TeV. The data were collected with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider in 2012 and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 20.3 fb-1. Using a high track multiplicity requirement, 0.6 +- 0.2 background events from Standard Model processes are predicted and none observed. This result is interpreted in the context of low-scale gravity models and 95% CL lower limits on microscopic black hole masses are set for different model assumptions.
It is shown that de-confinement can be achieved in high multiplicity non jet $\bar{p}$p collisions at $\sqrt{s}$= 1.8 TeV Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory(FNAL- E735) experiment. Previously the evidence for de-confinement was the demonstrated by the constant freeze out energy density in high multiplicity events. In this paper we use the same data but analyze the transverse momentum spectrum in the framework of the clustering of color sources. The charged particle pseudorapidities densities in the range 7.0 $\leq \langle dN_{c}/dη\rangle \leq$26.0 are considered. Results are presented for …
Extreme multiplicity studies at 50 GeV in pp interactions are discussed. Preliminary multiplicity distributions at U-70 (IHEP, Protvino) energy have been obtained for more than 20 charged particles. A new elaborated algorithm for the track reconstruction in a drift tube tracker and magnetic spectrometer, has been checked . The collective behavior of secondary particles is manifested in these interactions in the extreme multiplicity region. For the first time the ring events in pp interactions have been observed in this region. A possibility of detecting the Bose-Einstein condensation detection…
Real-time track tracking in high energy physics experiments at colliders running at high luminosity is very challenging for trigger systems. To perform pattern-recognition and track fitting in online trigger system, the artificial Retina algorithm has been introduced in the field. Retina can be implemented in the state of the art FPGA devices. Our developments use Retina in an iterative way to identify track for barrel-shape tracker embedded in a high magnetic field and with high track multiplicity. As a benchmark we simulate LHC t-tbar events, with a pile-up of 200 and a GEANT-4 based simulat…
We propose a simplified procedure for the experimental application of the efficiency correction on higher order cumulants in heavy-ion collisions. By using the track-by-track efficiency, we can eliminate possible bias arising from the average efficiencies calculated within the arbitrary binning of the phase space. Furthermore, the corrected particle spectra is no longer necessary for the average efficiency estimation and the time cost for the calculation of bootstrap statistical error can be significantly reduced.

Measurements are reported of differential cross sections for the production of a W boson, which decays into a muon and a neutrino, in association with jets, as a function of several variables, including the transverse momenta (pt) and pseudorapidities of the four leading jets, the scalar sum of jet transverse momenta (HT), and the difference in azimuthal angle between the directions of each jet and the muon. The data sample of pp collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV was collected with the CMS detector at the LHC and corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 5.0 inverse femtobarns. T…
Measurements are presented of the production of primary K(S)0 and Lambda particles in proton-proton collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV in the region transverse to the leading charged-particle jet in each event. The average multiplicity and average scalar transverse momentum sum of K(S)0 and Lambda particles measured at pseudorapidities abs(eta) < 2 rise with increasing charged-particle jet pt in the range 1-10 GeV and saturate in the region 10-50 GeV. The rise and saturation of the strange particle yields and transverse momentum sums in the underlying event are similar to those observed for inclusi…
In a recent article (arXiv:1210.3890), we showed that high multiplicity di-hadron proton- proton (p+p) data from the CMS experiment are in excellent agreement with computations in the Color Glass Condensate (CGC) Effective Field Theory (EFT). This agreement of the theory with several hundred data points provides a non-trivial description of both nearside ("ridge") and away-side azimuthal collimations of long range rapidity correlations in p+p collisions. Our prediction in arXiv:1210.3890 for proton-lead (p+Pb) collisions is consistent with results from the recent CMS p+Pb run at $\sqrt{s}_{\rm…
Charged track multiplicity is among the most powerful observables for discriminating quark- from gluon-initiated jets. Despite its utility, it is not infrared and collinear (IRC) safe, so perturbative calculations are limited to studying the energy evolution of multiplicity moments. While IRC-safe observables, like jet mass, are perturbatively calculable, their distributions often exhibit Casimir scaling, such that their quark/gluon discrimination power is limited by the ratio of quark to gluon color factors. In this paper, we introduce new IRC-safe counting observables whose discrimination pe…
The number of charged particles inside jets is a widely used discriminant for identifying the quark or gluon nature of the initiating parton and is sensitive to both the perturbative and non-perturbative components of fragmentation. This paper presents a measurement of the average number of charged particles with $p_\text{T}>500$ MeV inside high-momentum jets in dijet events using 20.3 fb$^{-1}$ of data recorded with the ATLAS detector in $pp$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=8$ TeV collisions at the LHC. The jets considered have transverse momenta from 50 GeV up to and beyond 1.5 TeV. The reconstructe…
A sophisticated trigger system, capable of real-time track reconstruction, is used in the ATLAS experiment to select interesting events in the proton-proton collisions at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. A set of $b$-jet triggers was activated in ATLAS for the entire 2011 data-taking campaign and successfully selected events enriched in jets arising from heavy-flavour quarks. Such triggers were demonstrated to be crucial for the selection of events with no lepton signature and a large jet multiplicity. An overview of the track reconstruction and online $b$-jet selection with performance esti…
The transverse energy ET in PbPb collisions at 2.76 TeV nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energy sqrt(s[NN]) has been measured over a broad range of pseudorapidity eta and collision centrality using the CMS detector at the LHC. The transverse energy density per unit pseudorapidity d(ET)/d(eta) increases faster with collision energy than the charged particle multiplicity. This implies that the mean energy per particle is increasing with collision energy. At all pseudorapidities the transverse energy per participating nucleon increases with the centrality of the collision. The ratio of transverse e…
Charged-hadron transverse-momentum and pseudorapidity distributions in proton-proton collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV are measured with the inner tracking system of the CMS detector at the LHC. The charged-hadron yield is obtained by counting the number of reconstructed hits, hit-pairs, and fully reconstructed charged-particle tracks. The combination of the three methods gives a charged-particle multiplicity per unit of pseudorapidity, dN(charged)/d(eta), for |eta| < 0.5, of 5.78 +/- 0.01 (stat) +/- 0.23 (syst) for non-single-diffractive events, higher than predicted by commonly used models. The …
We study 100 images of early LHC collisions that were recorded by the ATLAS experiment and made public for outreach purposes, and extract the charged particle multiplicity as a function of momentum for proton-proton collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV. As the collisions we study have already been pre-processed by the ATLAS Collaboration, the tracks are visible, but are available to the public only in the form of low-resolution bitmaps. We employ two separate image processing methods, one based on the industry-standard OpenCV library and C++, another based on self-developed algorithms in Python. We p…
Jet flavour identification in multi-TeV e+e- collisions is expected to provide insights on new phenomena at scales beyond those probed by the LHC. The anticipated high track density and jet collimation represent a new challenge to jet tagging algorithms. A method, based on the sampling of the jet charged multiplicity, sensitive to the long decay length and large decay multiplicity of heavy flavour hadrons is proposed and the expected performances for the tagging of e+e- -> bb events at 3 TeV are discussed.
Event-by-event correlations of azimuthal anisotropy Fourier coefficients ($v_n$) in 8.16 TeV pPb collision data, collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC, are extracted using a subevent four-particle cumulant technique. Each combination of four charged particles are selected from either two, three, or four distinct subevent regions of a pseudorapidity range from $-$2.4 to 2.4 of the CMS tracker, and with transverse momentum between 0.3 and 3.0 GeV. Using the subevent cumulant technique, correlations between $v_n$ of different orders are measured as functions of particle multiplicity and comp…
Measurements of the sphericity of primary charged particles in minimum bias proton--proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}=0.9$, 2.76 and 7 TeV with the ALICE detector at the LHC are presented. The observable is linearized to be collinear safe and is measured in the plane perpendicular to the beam direction using primary charged tracks with $p_{\rm T}\geq0.5$ GeV/c in $|η|\leq0.8$. The mean sphericity as a function of the charged particle multiplicity at mid-rapidity ($N_{\rm ch}$) is reported for events with different $p_{\rm T}$ scales ("soft" and "hard") defined by the transverse momentum of the le…
This paper presents studies of Bose-Einstein correlations (BEC) in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, using data from the ATLAS detector at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. Data were collected in a special low-luminosity configuration with a minimum-bias trigger and a high-multiplicity track trigger, accumulating integrated luminosities of 151 $μ$b$^{-1}$ and 8.4 nb$^{-1}$ respectively. The BEC are measured for pairs of like-sign charged particles, each with $|η|$ < 2.5, for two kinematic ranges: the first with particle $p_T$ > 100 MeV and the second with particle $p…
The ALICE collaboration measured charged particle production in $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=2.76$ TeV Pb--Pb collisions at the LHC. We report on results on charged particle multiplicity and transverse momentum spectra. All the results are presented as a function of the centrality of the collision, estimated with a Glauber Monte Carlo fit to multiplicity distributions reconstructed in various detectors. The applicability of the Glauber model at LHC energies, the precision of the centrality determination and the related systematic uncertainties are discussed in detail. Particles are tracked in the pseudorapi…
We present a study of the production of K_s^0 and Lambda^0 in inelastic pbar-p collisions at sqrt(s)= 1800 and 630 GeV using data collected by the CDF experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron. Analyses of K_s^0 and Lambda^0 multiplicity and transverse momentum distributions, as well as of the dependencies of the average number and <p_T> of K_s^0 and Lambda^0 on charged particle multiplicity are reported. Systematic comparisons are performed for the full sample of inelastic collisions, and for the low and high momentum transfer subsamples, at the two energies. The p_T distributions extend above 8 Ge…
Using an impact parameter tag to select an enriched sample of $Z \rightarrow b \overline{b}$ events, we have measured the difference between the average charged multiplicity of $Z \rightarrow b \overline{b}$ and $Z^0 \rightarrow hadrons$ to be $\overline{n}_{b} - \overline{n}_{had} = 2.24\pm 0.30(\rm{stat.}) \pm 0.33(\rm{syst.})$ tracks per event. {}From this, we have derived $\overline{n}_{b} - \overline{n}_{uds} = 3.31 \pm 0.41 \pm 0.79.$ Comparing this measurement with those at lower center-of-mass energies, we find no evidence that $\overline{n}_{b} - \overline{n}_{uds}$ depends on energy.…
We present measurements of Underlying Event observables in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 0.9 and 7 TeV. The analysis is performed as a function of the highest charged-particle transverse momentum $p_{\rm T, LT}$ in the event. Different regions are defined with respect to the azimuthal direction of the leading (highest transverse momentum) track: Toward, Transverse and Away. The Toward and Away regions collect the fragmentation products of the hardest partonic interaction. The Transverse region is expected to be most sensitive to the Underlying Event activity. The study is performed with charge…
The DELPHI detector at LEP, located 100 $m$ underground, has been used to detect the multi-muon bundles by cathode readout of its hadron calorimeter and its tracking detectors (TPC, muon chambers). The experimental apparatus allows us to study muon bundles originating from primary cosmic particles with energies in the interval $10^{14}$ - $10^{17} eV$. The cosmic events registered during the years 1999 and 2000 correspond roughly to $1.6 10^6 s$ of effective run time. The aim of the work is to compare the measured muon multiplicity distributions and predictions of high energy interaction model…
Measurements are presented from proton-proton collisions at centre-of-mass energies of sqrt(s) = 0.9, 2.36 and 7 TeV recorded with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. Events were collected using a single-arm minimum-bias trigger. The charged-particle multiplicity, its dependence on transverse momentum and pseudorapidity and the relationship between the mean transverse momentum and charged-particle multiplicity are measured. Measurements in different regions of phase-space are shown, providing diffraction-reduced measurements as well as more inclusive ones. The observed distributions are corrected t…
The last decade of hadron spectroscopy has unveiled a wealth of states that do not have the properties expected of particles composed of two or three valence quarks. Among the most intriguing of these exotics is the $χ_{c1}(3872)$, which various models attempt to describe as a hadronic molecule, a compact tetraquark, an unexpected charmonium state, or their mixtures. To date, most experimental studies of the $χ_{c1}(3872)$ have focused on its production through $B$ meson decays. Heavy ion collisions, as well as high multiplicity $pp$ collisions, offer a new window on the properties of this poo…
Two-particle long-range azimuthal correlations are measured in photonuclear collisions using 1.7 nb$^{-1}$ of 5.02 TeV Pb+Pb collision data collected by the ATLAS experiment at the LHC. Candidate events are selected using a dedicated high-multiplicity photonuclear event trigger, a combination of information from the zero-degree calorimeters and forward calorimeters, and from pseudorapidity gaps constructed using calorimeter energy clusters and charged-particle tracks. Distributions of event properties are compared between data and Monte Carlo simulations of photonuclear processes. Two-particle…
Short range correlations of identified charged hadrons in pp (sqrt(s) = 0.9, 2.76, and 7 TeV), pPb (sqrt(sNN) = 5.02 TeV), and peripheral PbPb collisions (sqrt(sNN) = 2.76 TeV) are studied with the CMS detector at the LHC. Charged pions, kaons, and protons at low pT and in laboratory pseudorapidity |eta| < 1 are identified via their energy loss in the silicon tracker. The two-particle correlation functions show effects of quantum statistics, Coulomb interaction, and also indicate the role of multi-body resonance decays and mini-jets. The characteristics of the one-, two-, and three-dimensional…
A measurement of the underlying activity in scattering processes with a hard scale in the several GeV region is performed in proton-proton collisions at sqrt(s) = 0.9 and 7 TeV, using data collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC. The production of charged particles with pseudorapidity |eta| < 2 and transverse momentum pT > 0.5 GeV/c is studied in the azimuthal region transverse to that of the leading set of charged particles forming a track-jet. A significant growth of the average multiplicity and scalar-pT sum of the particles in the transverse region is observed with increasing pT of the …
Track reconstruction in high track multiplicity environments at current and future high rate particle physics experiments is a big challenge and very time consuming. The search for track seeds and the fitting of track candidates are usually the most time consuming steps in the track reconstruction. Here, a new and fast track reconstruction method based on hit triplets is proposed which exploits a three-dimensional fit model including multiple scattering and hit uncertainties from the very start, including the search for track seeds. The hit triplet based reconstruction method assumes a homogen…

The two-particle correlation functions show effects of quantum statistics, Coulomb interaction, and also indicate the role of multi-body resonance decays and mini-jets. The characteristics…
ALICE is one of four large experiments at the CERN Large Hadron Collider near Geneva, specially designed to study particle production in ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions. Located 52 meters underground with 28 meters of overburden rock, it has also been used to detect muons produced by cosmic ray interactions in the upper atmosphere. In this paper, we present the multiplicity distribution of these atmospheric muons and its comparison with Monte Carlo simulations. This analysis exploits the large size and excellent tracking capability of the ALICE Time Projection Chamber. A special emphas…
The multiplicity dependence of the pseudorapidity density of charged particles in proton-proton (pp) collisions at centre-of-mass energies $\sqrt{s}$ = 5.02, 7 and 13 TeV measured by ALICE is reported. The analysis relies on track segments measured in the midrapidity range ($|η| < 1.5$). Results are presented for inelastic events having at least one charged particle produced in the pseudorapidity interval $|η|<1$ ($\mathrm{INEL}_{>0}$). The multiplicity dependence of the pseudorapidy density of charged particles is measured with mid and forward rapidity multiplicity estimators, the latter bein…
Two-particle angular correlations between trigger particles in the forward pseudorapidity range ($2.5 < |η| < 4.0$) and associated particles in the central range ($|η| < 1.0$) are measured with the ALICE detector in p-Pb collisions at a nucleon-nucleon centre-of-mass energy of 5.02 TeV. The trigger particles are reconstructed using the muon spectrometer, and the associated particles by the central barrel tracking detectors. In high-multiplicity events, the double-ridge structure, previously discovered in two-particle angular correlations at midrapidity, is found to persist to the pseudorapidit…
Jets are identified and their properties studied in center-of-mass energy sqrt(s) = 7 TeV proton-proton collisions at the Large Hadron Collider using charged particles measured by the ATLAS inner detector. Events are selected using a minimum bias trigger, allowing jets at very low transverse momentum to be observed and their characteristics in the transition to high-momentum fully perturbative jets to be studied. Jets are reconstructed using the anti-kt algorithm applied to charged particles with two radius parameter choices, 0.4 and 0.6. An inclusive charged jet transverse momentum cross sect…

Separate analyses are performed for same-sign unidentified charged particles as well as for same-sign pions and kaons identified via their energy loss in the silicon tracker. The characteristics of the one-, two-, and three-dimensional correlation functions are studied as functions of the pair average trans…
Energetic quarks liberated from hadrons in nuclear deep-inelastic scattering propagate through the nuclear medium, interacting with it via several processes. These include quark energy loss and nuclear interactions of forming hadrons. One manifestation of these interactions is the enhanced emission of low-energy charged particles, referred to as grey tracks. We use the theoretical components of the BeAGLE event generator to interpret grey track signatures of parton transport and hadron formation by comparing its predictions to E665 data. We extend the base version of BeAGLE by adding four diff…
Particle tracking is a fundamental part of the event analysis in high energy and nuclear physics. Events multiplicity increases each year along with the drastic growth of the experimental data which modern HENP detectors produce, so the classical tracking algorithms such as the well-known Kalman filter cannot satisfy speed and scaling requirements. At the same time, breakthroughs in the study of deep learning open an opportunity for the application of high-performance deep neural networks for solving tracking problems in a dense environment of experiments with heavy ions. However, there are no…
Measurements of charged-particle production in pp and p-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s}_{\rm NN}=5.02$ TeV in the toward, away and transverse regions are discussed. These three regions are defined event by event relative to the track with the largest transverse momentum ($p_{\rm T}^{\rm trig}$). The transverse region is sensitive to the underlying event (UE), but it also includes contributions from initial- and final-state radiation (ISR-FSR). Therefore, it is further subdivided in two regions, defined according to their relative multiplicity: trans-max (the sub-transverse region with the largest m…
Spectra of identified charged hadrons are measured in pPb collisions with the CMS detector at the LHC at sqrt(sNN) = 5.02 TeV. Charged pions, kaons, and protons in the transverse-momentum range pt approximately 0.1-1.7 GeV and laboratory rapidity abs(y) < 1 are identified via their energy loss in the silicon tracker. The average pt increases with particle mass and the charged multiplicity of the event. The increase of the average pt with charged multiplicity is greater for heavier hadrons. Comparisons to Monte Carlo event generators reveal that EPOS LHC, which incorporates additional hydrodyna…
Transverse momentum spectra of charged pions, kaons, and protons are measured in proton-proton collisions at sqrt(s) = 13 TeV with the CMS detector at the LHC. The particles, identified via their energy loss in the silicon tracker, are measured in the transverse momentum range of pt ~ 0.1-1.7 GeV and rapidities abs(y) < 1. The pt spectra and integrated yields are compared to previous results at smaller sqrt(s) and to predictions of Monte Carlo event generators. The average pt increases with particle mass and charged particle multiplicity of the event. Comparisons with previous CMS results at s…
This paper summarizes the Multiple Parton Interactions studies in CMS, focusing on the already performed low pT QCD measurements up to highest centre of mass energies of 7 TeV and discussing the plans for the direct measurement of the multiple high-pT scatterings. The underlying event in pp interactions is studied measuring the charged multiplicity density and the charged energy density in the transverse region, which is defined considering the azimuthal distance of the reconstructed tracks with respect to the leading track-jet of the event, defined from tracks according to a jet clustering al…
The first moment <p_T> of the charged-particle transverse momentum spectrum and its correlation with the charged-particle multiplicity N_{ch} provide vital information about the underlying particle production mechanism. The ALICE collaboration recently reported that <p_T> versus N_{ch} in Pb+Pb collisions is smaller than in p+p and p+Pb collisions. Other interesting features of data is rather flatness of <p_T> at high N_{ch} in Pb+Pb and p+Pb collisions in seemingly striking contrast to the case of p+p collisions. With a detailed calculation, we show all these peculiar features in a wide range…
ALICE is the experiment dedicated to the study of the quark gluon plasma in heavy-ion collisions at the CERN LHC. Improvements of ALICE sub-detectors are envisaged for the upgrade plans of year 2017. The Muon Forward Tracker (MFT) is a proposal in view of this upgrade, motivated both by the possibility to overcome the intrinsic limitations of the Muon Spectrometer, and by the possibility to perform new measurements of general interest for the whole ALICE physics. The measurement of the offset of single muons and dimuons will permit to disentangle open charm ($cτ\sim 150 μ$m) and beauty ($cτ\si…
The average charged track multiplicity and the normalised distribution of the scaled momentum, $\xp$, of charged final state hadrons are measured in deep-inelastic $\ep$ scattering at high $Q^2$ in the Breit frame of reference. The analysis covers the range of photon virtuality $100 < Q^2 < 20 000 \GeV^{2}$. Compared with previous results presented by HERA experiments this analysis has a significantly higher statistical precision and extends the phase space to higher $Q^{2}$ and to the full range of $\xp$. The results are compared with $e^+e^-$ annihilation data and with various calculations b…
Two related searches for phenomena beyond the standard model (BSM) are performed using events with hadronic jets and significant transverse momentum imbalance. The results are based on a sample of proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC in 2016-2018 and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 137 fb$^{-1}$. The first search is inclusive, based on signal regions defined by the hadronic energy in the event, the jet multiplicity, the number of jets identified as originating from bottom quarks, and the value of the kinematic va…
Spectra of identified charged hadrons are measured in pp collisions at the LHC for sqrt(s) = 0.9, 2.76, and 7 TeV. Charged pions, kaons, and protons in the transverse-momentum range pt approximately 0.1-1.7 GeV and for rapidities abs(y) < 1 are identified via their energy loss in the CMS silicon tracker. The average pt increases rapidly with the mass of the hadron and the event charged-particle multiplicity, independently of the center-of-mass energy. The fully corrected pt spectra and integrated yields are compared to various tunes of the PYTHIA6 and PYTHIA8 event generators.

High-energy physics experiments rely on reconstruction of the trajectories of particles produced at the interaction point. This is a challenging task, especially in the high track multiplicity environment generated by p-p collisions at the LHC energies. A typical event includes hundreds of signal examples (interesting decays) and a significant amount of noise (uninteresting examples). This work describes a modification of the Artificial Retina algorithm for fast track finding: numerical optimization methods were adopted for fast local track search. This approach allows for considerable reducti…
ATLAS has measured two-particle correlations as a function of relative azimuthal-angle, $Δϕ$, and pseudorapidity, $Δη$, in $\sqrt{s}$=13 and 2.76 TeV $pp$ collisions at the LHC using charged particles measured in the pseudorapidity interval $|η|$<2.5. The correlation functions evaluated in different intervals of measured charged-particle multiplicity show a multiplicity-dependent enhancement at $Δϕ\sim 0$ that extends over a wide range of $Δη$, which has been referred to as the "ridge". Per-trigger-particle yields, $Y(Δϕ)$, are measured over 2<$|Δη|$<5. For both collision energies, the $Y(Δϕ)$…
The measurement of (anti)nuclei production in pp, p-A and A-A collisions at ultrarelativistic energies is important to understand hadronization. The excellent tracking and particle identification capabilities of ALICE make it the most suited detector at the LHC to study light (anti)nuclei produced in high-energy hadronic collisions. (Anti)nuclei with mass numbers up to 4, such as (anti)deuterons, (anti)tritons, (anti)$^3$He and (anti)$^4$He have been successfully identified in ALICE at midrapidity ($|η|<$0.9). In this contribution, multiplicity dependent results on the yields, nuclei-to-proton…
