In this paper, we get the time evolution equations of the curvature and torsion of the evolving spacelike curves in the Minkowski space. Also, we give inextensible evolutions of timelike ruled surfaces that are produced by the timelike normal and spacelike binormal vector fields of spacelike curve and derive the necessary conditions for an inelastic surface evolution. Then, we compute the coefficients of the first and second fundamental forms, the Gauss and mean curvatures for timelike special ruled surfaces. As a result, we give applications of the evolution equations for the curvatures of the curve in terms of the velocities and get the exact solutions for these new equations.
In this paper, we define dual geodesic trihedron(dual Darboux frame) of a spacelike ruled surface. Then, we study Mannheim offsets of spacelike ruled surfaces in dual Lorentzian space by considering the E. Study Mapping. We represent spacelike ruled surfaces by dual Lorentzian unit spherical curves and define Mannheim offsets of the spacelike ruled surfaces by means of dual Darboux frame. We obtain relationships between the invariants of Mannheim spacelike offset surfaces and offset angle, offset distance. Furthermore, we give conditions for these surface offsets to be developable.

In this paper, we investigate the relations between the pitch, the angle of pitch and drall of parallel ruled surface of a closed spacelike curve with timelike binormal in dual Lorentzian space.
In this paper, we introduce the dual geodesic trihedron (dual Darboux frame) of a timelike ruled surface. By the aid of the E. Study Mapping, we consider timelike ruled surfaces as dual hyperbolic spherical curves and define the Mannheim offsets of timelike ruled surfaces by means of dual Darboux frame. We obtain the relationships between invariants of Mannheim timelike surface offsets. Furthermore, we give the conditions for these surface offsets to be developable.

In this paper, we obtain the characterizations of Mannheim offsets of the timelike ruled surface with spacelike rulings in dual Lorentzian space. We give the relations between terms of their integral invariants and also we give the new characterization of the Mannheim offsets of developable timelike ruled surface. Moreover, we obtain the relationships between the area of projections of spherical images for Mannheim offsets of timelike ruled surfaces and their integral invariants.
In this paper, using the classifications of timelike and spacelike ruled surfaces, we define and study the Mannheim offsets of spacelike ruled surfaces in Minkowski 3-space. We give the conditions for spacelike offset surfaces to be developable.
This paper deals with the natural lift curves and the geodesic sprays for the spherical indicatrices of the timelike-spacelike Bertrand couple on the tangent bundle or in Minkowski 3-space and then give some new characterizations for these curves. Additionally we illustrate an example of our main results.
In this paper, space and timelike admissible Smarandache curves in the pseudo- Galilean 3-space are investigated. Also, Smarandache curves of the position vector of space and timelike arbitrary curve and some of its special curves in the pseudo- Galilean 3-space are obtained. To confirm our main results, some examples are given and illustrated.
Bour's minimal surface has remarkable properties in three dimensional Minkowski space. We reveal the definite and indefinite cases of the Bour's surface using Weierstrass representations, and give some differential geometric properties of the astonishing maximal and minimal surfaces.
In this study, we have obtained the distribution parameter of a ruled surface generated by a straight line in Frenet trihedron moving along a timelike curve and also along another curve with the same parameter. At this time, the Frenet frames of these timelike curves are not the same. We have moved the director vector of the first curve along the second curve. It is shown that the ruled surface is developable if and only if the base timelike curve is helix. In addition, some smilarities and differences are presented with theorems and results.
Any compact spacelike hypersurface immersed in a doubly warped product spacetime $I{}_{h} \times_ρ \mathbb{P}$ with nondecreasing warping factor $ρ$ must be a spacelike slice, provided that the mean curvature satisfies $H\geqρ'/hρ$ everywhere on the hypersurface. The conclusion also holds, under suitable assumptions on the immersion, when the hypersurface is complete and noncompact. A similar rigidity property is shown for compact hypersurfaces in spacetimes carrying a conformal, strictly expanding, timelike vector field.
The aim of this paper is to present a new perspective on the generation of developable trajectory ruled surfaces in Minkowski 3-space. Involute trajectory ruled surfaces generated by the Frenet trihedron, moving along spacelike involutes of a given timelike space curve, is stated according to Lorentzian timelike angle between tangent vector and unit vector of direction Darboux vector of this timelike space curve. Also some new results and theorems related to the developability of the involute trajectory timelike ruled surfaces are obtained. Finally we illustrate these surfaces by presenting on…
In this study we give definitions and characterizations of transversal surfaces of timelike ruled surfaces. We study some special cases such as the striction curve is a geodesic, an asymptotic line or a line of curvature. Moreover, we obtain developable conditions for transversal surfaces of a timelike ruled surface.
In this study, we investigate the existence theorems for timelike ruled surfaces in Minkowski 3-space. We obtain a general system and give the existence theorems for a timelike ruled surface according to Gaussian curvature, distribution parameter and strictional distance. Moreover, we give some special cases such as the directirx of the surface is a geodesic, an asymptotic line, a line of curvature or a general helix.

Pseudo-Riemannian manifolds of balanced signature which are both spacelike and timelike Jordan Osserman nilpotent of order 2 and of order 3 have been constructed previously. In this short note, we shall construct pseudo-Riemannian manifolds of signature (2s,s) for any s (which is at least 2) which are spacelike Jordan Osserman nilpotent of order 3 but which are not timelike Jordan Osserman. Our example and techniques are quite different from known previously both in that they are not in neutral signature and that the manifolds constructed will be spacelike but not timelike Jordan Osserman.
In this paper, using the classifications of timelike and spacelike ruled surfaces, we study the Mannheim offsets of timelike ruled surfaces in Minkowski 3-space. Firstly, we define the Mannheim offsets of a timelike ruled surface by considering the Lorentzian casual character of the offset surface. We obtain that the Mannheim offsets of a timelike ruled surface may be timelike or spacelike. Furthermore, we characterize the developable of Mannheim offset of a timelike ruled surface by the derivative of the conical curvature of the directing cone.
In this paper, we consider non developable ruled surface with spacelike ruling, timelike ruling, respectively. We give the relations between the structure functions with the curvature and torsion of the striction line of the timelike and spacelike non developable ruled surfaces. Also, we have calculated the gaussian and mean curvatures of timelike and spacelike non developable ruled surfaces using the structure functions.
We prove long-time existence for mean curvature flow of a smooth $n$-dimensional spacelike submanifold of an $n+m$ dimensional manifold whose metric satisfies the timelike curvature condition.
We classify (spacelike or timelike) surfaces of revolution with zero $f$-mean curvature in $\Bbb G^2\times\Bbb R_1,$ the Lorentz-Minkowski 3-space $\Bbb R^3_1$ endowed with the Gaussian-Euclidean density $e^{-f(x,y,z)}=\frac 1{2π}e^{-\frac{x^2+y^2}2}.$ It is proved that an $f$-maximal surface of revolution is either a horizontal plane or a spacelike $f$-Catenoid. For the timelike case, a timelike $f$-minimal surface is either a vertical plane containing $z$-axis, the cylinder $x^2+y^2=1,$ or a timelike $f$-Catenoid. Spacelike and timelike $f$-Catenoids are new examples of $f$-minimal surfaces …
When studying the causal propagation of a field in a globally hyperbolic spacetime M, one often wants to express the physical intuition that it has compact support in spacelike directions, or that its support is a spacelike compact set. We compare a number of logically distinct formulations of this idea, and of the complementary idea of timelike compactness, and we clarify their interrelations. E.g., a closed subset A of M has a compact intersection with all Cauchy surfaces if and only if A is contained in J(K) for some compact set K. (However, it does not suffice to consider only those Cauchy…
Let s be at least 2. We construct Ricci flat pseudo-Riemannian manifolds of signature (2s,s) which are not locally homogeneous but whose curvature tensors never the less exhibit a number of important symmetry properties. They are curvature homogeneous; their curvature tensor is modeled on that of a local symmetric space. They are spacelike Jordan Osserman with a Jacobi operator which is nilpotent of order 3; they are not timelike Jordan Osserman. They are k-spacelike higher order Jordan Osserman for $2\le k\le s$; they are k-timelike higher order Jordan Osserman for $s+2\le k\le 2s$, and they …
The aim of this paper is to determine criteria of being integral curve for the geodesic spray of the natural lift curves of the spherical indicatrices of the involutes of a given spacelike curve with a timelike binormal in Minkowski 3-space. Furthermore, some interesting results about the spacelike evolute curve with timelike binormal and spacelike or timelike Darboux vector were obtained, depending on the assumption that the natural lift curves of the spherical indicatrices of the involute curve should be the integral curve on the tangent bundle. Additionally we illustrate an example of our m…
In this article, we study spacelike and timelike rotational surfaces in a 3--dimensional de Sitter space $\mathbb{S}^3_1$ which are the orbit of a regular curve under the action of the orthogonal transformation of 4--dimensional Minkowski space $\mathbb{E}^4_1$ leaving a spacelike, a timelike or a degenerate plane pointwise fixed. We determine the profile curve of such Weingarten rotational surfaces parameterized by the principal curvature. Then, we classify spacelike and timelike Weingarten rotational surface in $\mathbb{S}^3_1$ with the principal curvatures $κ$ and $λ$ satisfying $κ=aλ+b$ or…
The Lamarle Formula, given by Kruppa in \cite{Kr}, is known as a relationship between the Gaussian curvature and the distribution parameter of a ruled surface in the surface theory. The ruled surfaces were investigated in 3 different classes with respect to the character of base curves and rulings, \cite{Tu1},\cite{Tu2}. In this paper on account of these studies, the relationships between the Gaussian curvatures and distribution parameters of spacelike ruled surface, timelike ruled surface with spacelike ruling and timelike ruled surface with timelike ruling are obtained, respectively. These r…
We prove that if $ϕ\colon \mathbb{R}^2 \to \mathbb{R}^{1+2}$ is a smooth proper timelike immersion with vanishing mean curvature, then necessarily $ϕ$ is an embedding, and every compact subset of $ϕ(\mathbb{R}^2)$ is a smooth graph. It follows that if one evolves any smooth self-intersecting spacelike curve (or any planar spacelike curve whose unit tangent vector spans a closed semi-circle) so as to trace a timelike surface of vanishing mean curvature in $\mathbb{R}^{1+2}$, then the evolving surface will either fail to remain timelike, or it will fail to remain smooth. We show that, even allow…
In this paper, we study three types of helicoidal surfaces in a Lorentzian n--space $\mathbb{E}^n_1$. First, we find the parametrizations of spacelike loxodromes on such spacelike helicoidal surfaces in $\mathbb{E}^n_1$. Then, we make a similar classification for spacelike loxodromes on such timelike helicoidal surfaces of a Lorentzian n--space $\mathbb{E}^n_1$.
Isophote curve consists of a locus of surface points whose normal vectors make a constant angle with a fixed vector (the axis). In this paper, we define an isophote curve on a spacelike surface in Lorentz-Minkowski space and then find its axis as timelike and spacelike vectors via the Darboux frame. Besides, we give some characterizations concerning isophote curve and its axis.
A normal field on a spacelike surface in $R^4_1$ is called bi-normal if $K^ν$, the determinant of Weingarten map associated with $ν$, is zero. In this paper we give a relationship between the spacelike pseudo-planar surfaces and spacelike pseudo-umbilical surfaces, then study the bi-normal fields on spacelike ruled surfaces and spacelike surfaces of revolution.
Isophote comprises a locus of the surface points whose normal vectors make a constant angle with a fixed vector. In this paper, isophote curves are studied on timelike surfaces in Minkowski 3-space E31. The axises of spacelike and timelike isophote curves are found via their Darboux frames. Subsequently, the relationship between isophotes and slant helices is shown on timelike surfaces.
It is well known that the only surfaces that are simultaneously minimal in $\mathbb{R}^3$ and maximal in $\mathbb{L}^3$ are open pieces of helicoids (in the region in which they are spacelike) and of spacelike planes (O. Kobayashi 1983). The proof of this result consists in showing that the level curves of those surfaces are lines, and so the surfaces are ruled. And it finishes comparing the classification of minimal ruled surfaces to that of maximal ruled surfaces. In this manuscript we consider the general case of spacelike hypersurfaces in the $(n+1)$-dimensional Euclidean space which are s…
In this paper, we will give an Enneper-type representation for spacelike and timelike minimal surfaces in the Lorentz-Minkowski space $L^{3}$, using the complex and the paracomplex analysis (respectively). Then, we exhibit various examples of minimal surfaces in $L^{3}$ constructed via the Enneper representation formula, that it is equivalent to the Weierstrass representation obtained by Kobayashi (for spacelike immersions) and by Konderak (for the timelike ones).
In this paper, position vector of a spacelike general helix with respect to standard frame in Minkowski space E$^3_1$ are studied in terms of Frenet equations. First, a vector differential equation of third order is constructed to determine position vector of an arbitrary spacelike general helix. In terms of solution, we determine the parametric representation of the general helices from the intrinsic equations. Moreover, we give some examples to illustrate how to find the position vectors of a spacelike general helices with a spacelike and timelike principal normal vector from the intrinsic e…
Let E be the Engel group and D be a rank 2 bracket generating left invariant distribution with a Lorentzian metric, which is a nondegenerate metric of index 1. In this paper, we first prove that timelike normal extremals are locally maximizing. Second, we obtain a parametrization of timelike, spacelike, lightlike normal extremal trajectories by Jacobi functions. Third, a discrete symmetry group and its fixed points which are Maxwell points of of timelike and spacelike normal extremals, are described. An estimate for the cut time (the time of loss of optimality) on extremal trajectories is deri…
Given a constant vector field $Z$ in Minkowski space, a timelike surface is said to have a canonical null direction with respect to $Z$ if the projection of $Z$ on the tangent space of the surface gives a lightlike vector field. In this paper we describe these surfaces in the ruled case. For example when the Minkowski space has three dimensions then a surface with a canonical null direction is minimal and flat. On the other hand, we describe several properties in the non ruled case and we partially describe these surfaces in four-dimensional Minkowski space. We give different ways for building…
This paper demonstrates existence for all time of mean curvature flow in Minkowski space with a perpendicular Neumann boundary condition, where the boundary manifold is a convex cone and the flowing manifold is initially spacelike. Using a blowdown argument, we show that under renormalisation this flow converges towards a homothetically expanding hyperbolic solution.
We introduce a new approach to the study of timelike minimal surfaces in the Lorentz-Minkowski space through a split-complex representation formula for this kind of surface. As applications, we solve the Björling problem for timelike surfaces and obtain interesting examples and related results. Using the Björling representation, we also obtain characterizations of minimal timelike surfaces of revolution as well as of minimal ruled timelike surfaces in the Lorentz-Minkowsi space.
Fold singular points play important roles in the theory of maximal surfaces. For example, if a maximal surface admits fold singular points, it can be extended to a timelike minimal surface analytically. Moreover, there is a duality between conelike singular points and folds. In this paper, we investigate fold singular points on spacelike surfaces with non-zero constant mean curvature (spacelike CMC surfaces). We prove that spacelike CMC surfaces do not admit fold singular points. Moreover, we show that the singular point set of any conjugate CMC surface of a spacelike Delaunay surface with con…
For a compact spacelike constant mean curvature surface with nonempty boundary in the three-dimensional Lorentz-Minkowski space, we introduce a rotation index of the lines of curvature at the boundary umbilic point, which was developed by Choe \cite{Choe}. Using the concept of the rotation index at the interior and boundary umbilic points and applying the Poincaré-Hopf index formula, we prove that a compact immersed spacelike disk type capillary surface with less than $4$ vertices in a domain of $\Bbb L^3$ bounded by (spacelike or timelike) totally umbilic surfaces is part of a (spacelike) pla…
We show that isothermic surfaces and S-Willmore surfaces are also the solutions to the corresponding Blaschke's problem for both spacelike and timelike surfaces in pseudo-Riemannian space forms. For timelike surfaces both Willmore and isothermic, we obtain a description by minimal surfaces similar to the classical results of Thomsen.
In this study, we consider the notion of similar ruled surface for timelike and spacelike ruled surfaces in Minkowski 3-space. We obtain some properties of these special surfaces in E_1^3 and we show that developable ruled surfaces in E_1^3 form a family of similar ruled surfaces if and only if the striction curves of the surfaces are similar curves with variable transformation. Moreover, we obtain that cylindrical surfaces and conoids form two families of similar ruled surfaces in E_1^3.
We generalize the Fenchel theorem for strong spacelike closed curves of index $1$ in the 3-dimensional Minkowski space, showing that the total curvature must be less than or equal to $2π$. Here strong spacelike means that the tangent vector and the curvature vector span a spacelike 2-plane at each point of the curve $γ$ under consideration. The assumption of index 1 is equivalent to saying that $γ$ winds around some timelike axis with winding number 1. We prove this reversed Fenchel-type inequality by constructing a ruled spacelike surface with the given curve as boundary and applying the Gaus…
We exhibit a family of generalized plane wave manifolds of signature (2,2). The geodesics in these manifolds extend for infinite time (i.e. they are complete), they are spacelike and timelike Jordan Osserman, and they are spacelike and timelike Jordan Ivanov-Petrova. Some are irreducible symmetric spaces. Some are homogeneous spaces but not symmetric. Some are 1-curvature homogeneous but not homogeneous. All are 0-modeled on the same irreducible symmetric space. We determine the Killing vector fields for these manifolds.
The basic theory on the conformal geometry of timelike surfaces in pseudo-Riemannian space forms is introduced, which is parallel to the classical framework of Burstall etc. for spacelike surfaces. Then we provide a discussion on the transforms of timelike $(\pm)-$isothermic surfaces (or real isothermic, complex isothermic surfaces), including $c-$ polar transforms, Darboux transforms and spectral transforms. The first main result is that $c-$polar transforms preserve timelike $(\pm)-$isothermic surfaces, which are generalizations of the classical Christoffel transforms. The next main result i…
In this work, we consider spacelike surfaces in Minkowski space $\hbox{\bf E}%_{1}^{3}$ that satisfy a linear Weingarten condition of type $κ_{1}=mκ_{2}+n$, where $m$ and $n$ are constant and $κ_{1}$ and $κ_{2}$ denote the principal curvatures at each point of the surface. We study the family of surfaces foliated by a uniparametric family of circles in parallel planes. We prove that the surface must be rotational or the surface is part of the family of Riemann examples of maximal surfaces ($m=-1$, $n=0$). Finally, we consider the class of rotational surfaces for the case $n=0$, obtaining a fir…
A spacelike surface in Minkowski space $\mathbb{R}_1^3$ is called a $K^α$-translator of the flow by the powers of Gauss curvature if satisfies $K^α= \langle N,\vec{v}\rangle$, $α\neq 0$, where $K$ is the Gauss curvature, $N$ is the unit normal vector field and $\vec{v}$ is a direction of $\mathbb{R}_1^3$. In this paper, we classify all rotational $K^α$-translators. This classification will depend on the causal character of the rotation axis. Although the theory of the $K^α$-flow holds for spacelike surfaces, the equation describing $K^α$-translators is still valid for timelike surfaces. So we …
A spacelike surface in the Minkowski 3-space is called a constant slope surface if its position vector makes a constant angle with the normal at each point on the surface. These surfaces completely classified in [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 385 (1) (2012) 208-220]. In this study, we give some relations between split quaternions and spacelike constant slope surfaces in Minkowski 3-space. We show that spacelike constant slope surfaces can be reparametrized by using rotation matrices corresponding to unit timelike quaternions with the spacelike vector parts and homothetic motions. Subsequently we give s…
We study the class of spacelike surfaces in the four-dimensional Minkowski space whose mean curvature vector at any point is a non-zero spacelike vector or timelike vector. These surfaces are determined up to a motion by eight invariant functions satisfying some natural conditions. The subclass of Chen surfaces is characterized by the condition one of these invariants to be zero. In the present paper we describe all Chen spacelike rotational surfaces of hyperbolic or elliptic type.
