Only two examples of extremally Ricci pinched G2-structures can be found in the literature and they are both homogeneous. We study in this paper the existence and structure of such very special closed G2-structures on Lie groups. Strong structural conditions on the Lie algebra are proved to hold. As an application, we obtain three new examples of extremally Ricci pinched G2-structures and that they are all necessarily steady Laplacian solitons. The deformation and rigidity of such structures are also studied.
In this paper, we prove that expanding gradient Ricci solitons with (positively) pinched Ricci curvature are trivial ones. Namely, they are either compact or flat.
There is a conjecture that a complete Riemannian 3-manifold with bounded sectional curvature, and pointwise pinched nonnegative Ricci curvature, must be flat or compact. We show that this is true when the negative part (if any) of the sectional curvature decays quadratically.
We prove that any $n$--dimensional complete gradient Ricci soliton with pinched Weyl curvature is a finite quotient of $\RR^{n}$, $\RR \times \SS^{n-1}$ or $\SS^{n}$. In particular, we do not need to assume the metric to be locally conformally flat.
In this paper, we prove that any $κ$-noncollapsed gradient steady Ricci soliton with nonnegative curvature operator and horizontally $ε$-pinched Ricci curvature must be rotationally symmetric. As an application, we show that any $κ$-noncollapsed gradient steady Ricci soliton $(M^n, g,f)$ with nonnegative curvature operator must be rotationally symmetric if it admits a unique equilibrium point and its scalar curvature $R(x)$ satisfies $\lim_{r(x)\rightarrow\infty}R(x)f(x)=C_0\sup_{x\in M}R(x)$ with $C_0>\frac{n-2}{2}$.
We prove that a $n$-dimensional, $4 \leq n \leq 6$, compact gradient shrinking Ricci soliton satisfying a $L^{n/2}$-pinching condition is isometric to a quotient of the round $\mathbb{S}^{n}$. The proof relies mainly on sharp algebraic curvature estimates, the Yamabe-Sobolev inequality and an improved rigidity result for integral pinched Einstein metrics.
We prove that an $n$-dimensional, $n\geq4$, compact gradient shrinking Ricci soliton satisfying a $L^{\frac n2}$-pinching condition is isometric to a quotient of the round $\mathbb{S}^n$, which improves the rigidity theorem given by G. Catino (arXiv:1509.07416vl).
We give the first examples of closed Laplacian solitons which are shrinking, and in particular produce closed Laplacian flow solutions with a finite-time singularity. Extremally Ricci pinched G2-structures (introduced by Bryant) which are steady Laplacian solitons have also been found. All the examples are left-invariant G2-structures on solvable Lie groups.

A complete classification of left-invariant closed G2-structures on Lie groups which are extremally Ricci pinched, up to equivalence and scaling, is obtained. There are five of them, they are defined on five different completely solvable Lie groups and the G2-structure is exact in all cases except one, given by the only example in which the Lie group is unimodular.
We provide the second known example of an extremally Ricci pinched closed G2-structure on a compact 7-manifold, by finding a lattice in the only unimodular solvable Lie group admitting a left-invariant G2-structure. Furthermore, the Laplacian coflow and its solitons are studied on a 6-parameter family of left-invariant coclosed G2-structures on this Lie group. In this way, we obtain a 4-parameter subfamily of expanding solitons. The family is locally pairwise non-equivalent.
We construct smooth solutions to Ricci flow starting from a class of singular metrics and give asymptotics for the forward evolution. The singular metrics heal with a set of points (of codimension at least three) coming out of the singular point. We conjecture that these metrics arise as final-time limits of Ricci flow encountering a Type-I singularity modeled on $\mathbb{R}^{p+1} \times S^q$. This gives a picture of Ricci flow through a singularity, in which a neighborhood of the manifold changes topology from $D^{p+1} \times S^{q}$ to $S^p \times D^{q+1}$ (through the cone over $S^p \times S…
Let (M,g_0) be a compact Riemannian manifold with pointwise 1/4-pinched sectional curvatures. We show that the Ricci flow deforms g_0 to a constant curvature metric. The proof uses the fact, also established in this paper, that positive isotropic curvature is preserved by the Ricci flow in all dimensions. We also rely on earlier work of Hamilton and of Bohm and Wilking.
Among closed G2-structures there are two very distinguished classes: Laplacian solitons and Extremally Ricci-pinched G2-structures. We study the existence problem and explore possible interplays between these concepts in the context of left-invariant G2-structures on solvable Lie groups. Also, some Ricci pinching properties of G2-structures on solvmanifolds are obtained, in terms of the extremal values and points of the Ricci pinching functional F=scal/|Ric|. Many natural open problems have been included.
We give an answer to a question posed recently by R.Bryant, namely we show that a compact 7-dimensional manifold equipped with a G2-structure with closed fundamental form is Einstein if and only if the Riemannian holonomy of the induced metric is contained in G2. This could be considered to be a G2 analogue of the Goldberg conjecture in almost Kahler geometry. The result was generalized by R.L.Bryant to closed G2-structures with too tightly pinched Ricci tensor. We extend it in another direction proving that a compact G2-manifold with closed fundamental form and divergence-free Weyl tensor is …
This article studies closed G2-structures satisfying the quadratic condition, a second-order PDE system introduced by Bryant involving a parameter $λ.$ For certain special values of $λ$ the quadratic condition is equivalent to the Einstein condition for the metric induced by the closed G2-structure (for $λ= 1/2$), the extremally Ricci-pinched (ERP) condition (for $λ=1/6$), and the condition that the closed G2-structure be an eigenform for the Laplace operator (for $λ= 0$). Prior to the work in this article, solutions to the quadratic system were known only for $λ= 1/6,$ $-1/8,$ and $2/5,$ and …
We examine a Type-1 neck pinch singularity in simplicial Ricci flow (SRF) for an axisymmetric piecewise flat 3-dimensional geometry with 3-sphere topology. SRF was recently introduced as an unstructured mesh formulation of Hamilton's Ricci flow (RF). It describes the RF of a piecewise-flat simplicial geometry. In this paper, we apply the SRF equations to a representative double-lobed axisymmetric piecewise flat geometry with mirror symmetry at the neck similar to the geometry studied by Angenent and Knopf (A-K). We choose a specific radial profile and compare the SRF equations with the corresp…
