Pairing interaction between fermionic particles leads to composite Bosons that condense at low temperature. Such condensate gives rise to long range order and phase coherence in superconductivity, superfluidity, and other exotic states of matter in the quantum limit. In graphene double-layers separated by an ultra-thin insulator, strong interlayer Coulomb interaction introduces electron-hole pairing across the two layers, resulting in a unique superfluid phase of interlayer excitons. In this work, we report a series of emergent fractional quantum Hall ground states in a graphene double-layer structure, which is compared to an expanded composite fermion model with two-component correlation. The ground state hierarchy from bulk conductance measurement and Hall resistance plateau from Coulomb drag measurement provide strong experimental evidence for a sequence of effective integer quantum Hall effect states for the novel two-component composite fermions (CFs), where CFs fill integer number of effective LLs (Lambda-level). Most remarkably, a sequence of incompressible states with interlayer correlation are observed at half-filled Lambda-levels, which represents a new type of order involving pairing states of CFs that is unique to graphene double-layer structure and beyond the conventional CF model.
We show that the imaginary vector potential causes a pair-breaking effect in the composite fermion theory, and discuss its irrelevance in the pairing state. The Hamiltonian for pairing states of composite fermions is proposed. The advantage of non-unitary transformations and the meaning of the non-Hermitian term are discussed.
The superconducting pairing of electrons in doped graphene due to in-plane and out-of-plane phonons is considered. It is shown that the structure of the order parameter in the valley space substantially affects conditions of the pairing. Electron-hole pairing in graphene bilayer in the strong coupling regime is also considered. Taking into account retardation of the screened Coulomb pairing potential shows a significant competition between the electron-hole direct attraction and their repulsion due to virtual plasmons and single-particle excitations.
We derive the effective Hamiltonian for the composite fermion in double-layer quantum Hall systems with inter-layer tunneling at total Landau-level filling factor $ν=1/m$, where $m$ is an integer. We find that the ground state is the triplet p-wave BCS pairing state of the composite fermions. At $ν=1/2$, the ground state of the system evolves from the Halperin $(3,3,1)$-state toward the Pfaffian-state with increasing the tunneling amplitude. On the other hand, at $ν=1$, the pairing state is uniquely determined independent of tunneling amplitude.
We find that for the pure Coulomb repulsion the composite Fermi sea at $ν=1/2$ is on the verge of an instability to triplet pairing of composite fermions. It is argued that a transition into the paired state, described by a Pfaffian wave function, may be induced if the short-range part of the interaction is softened by increasing the thickness of the two-dimensional electron system.
We discuss the possibility of the quantum Hall effect at half-filled Landau level in terms of the pairing of the composite fermions. In the absence of Coulomb energy, we show that the ground state of the system is described by the {\it p}-wave BCS pairing state of composite fermions. When the ratio $α\equiv (e^2/ε\ell_B)/ε_F$ ($\ell_B$ : the magnetic length, $ε_F$ : Fermi energy of the composite fermions) is larger than a critical value $α_c \sim 8.2$ the gap of the pairing state vanishes. However, $α$ remains less than $α_c$ if $\hbar ω_c \gg e^2/ε\ell_B$ holds. Then in this situation it is p…
We consider the Coulomb drag between two two-dimensional electron layers at filling factor ν= 1/2 each, using a strong coupling approach within the composite fermion picture. Due to an attractive interlayer interaction, composite fermions are expected to form a paired state below a critical temperature T_c. We find that above T_c pairing fluctuations make the longitudinal transresistivity ρ_D increase with decreasing temperature. The pairing mechanism we study is very sensitive to density variations in the two layers, and to an applied current. We discuss possible relation to an experiment by …
Composite fermions in fractional quantum Hall (FQH) systems are believed to form a Fermi sea of weakly interacting particles at half filling $ν=1/2$. Recently, it was proposed (D. T. Son, Phys. Rev. X 5, 031027 (2015)) that these composite fermions are Dirac particles. In our work, we demonstrate experimentally that composite fermions found in monolayer graphene are Dirac particles at half filling. Our experiments have addressed FQH states in high-mobility, suspended graphene Corbino disks in the vicinity of $ν=1/2$. We find strong temperature dependence of conductivity $σ$ away from half fill…
We study how the electron-hole pairing reveals itself in the response of a double layer graphene system to the vector and scalar potentials. Electron-hole pairing results in a rigid (London)relation between the current and the difference of vector potentials in two adjacent layers. The diamagnetic effect can be observed in multiple connected systems in the magnetic field parallel to the graphene layers. Such an effect would be considered as a hallmark of the electron-hole pairing, but the value of the effect is extremely small. Electron-hole pairing significantly changes the response to the sc…
Generalizing the notion of composite fermions to the "pseudo-relativistic" Quantum Hall phenomena in graphene, we discuss a possible emergence of compressible states at the filling factors -3/2, -1/2, 1/2, 3/2. This analysis is further extended to the nearby incompressible states viewed as the Integer Quantum Hall Effect of the composite Dirac fermions, as well as those that might occur at the filling factors -1, 0, 1 as a result of the (pseudo)spin-singlet pairing between them.
Cooper pairing of spatially separated electrons and holes in graphene bilayer is studied beyond the mean-field approximation. Suppression of the screening at large distances, caused by appearance of the gap, is considered self-consistently. A mutual positive feedback between appearance of the gap and enlargement of the interaction leads to a sharp transition to correlated state with greatly increased gap above some critical value of the coupling strength. At coupling strength below the critical, this correlation effect increases the gap approximately by a factor of two. The maximal coupling st…
We study electromagnetic properties of a double layer graphene system in which electrons from one layer are coupled with holes from the other layer. The gauge invariant linear response functions are obtained. The frequency dependences of the transmission, reflection and absorption coefficients are computed. We predict a peak in the reflection and absorption at the frequency equals to the gap in the quasiparticle spectrum. It is shown that the electron-hole pairing results in an essential modification of the spectrum of surface TM plasmons. We find that the optical TM mode splits into a low fre…
Fractional quantum Hall (FQH) states have recently been observed at unexpected values of the filling factor nu. Here we interpret these states as a novel family of FQH states involving pairing correlations rather than Laughlin correlations among the quasiparticles (QP's). The correlations depend upon the behavior of the QP-QP pseudopotential V_QP(L'), the interaction energy of a pair as a function of the pair angular momentum L'. This behavior, known from numerical studies of small systems, is used to demonstrate that pairing correlations give rise to FQH states at the experimentally observed …
A novel hierarchy of fractional quantum Hall (FQH) states in the lowest Landau level (LL) is proposed to explain recently observed FQH fractions such as nu=5/13, 3/8, or 4/11. Based on the analysis of their interaction pseudopotentials, it is argued that the Laughlin quasiparticles (particles/holes in a partially filled composite fermion LL) form pairs. These pairs are proposed to have Laughlin correlations with one another and to form condensed states at a sequence of fractions which includes all new fractions observed in experiment.
Recently, a Dirac (particle-hole symmetric) description of composite fermions in the half-filled quantum Hall system was proposed [D. T. Son, Phys. Rev. X 5, 031027 (2015)], and we study its possible consequences on BCS (Cooper) pairing of composite fermions (CF's). One of the main consequences is the existence of anisotropic states in single and bilayer systems, which was previously suggested in Ref. [J. S. Jeong and K. Park, Phys. Rev. B 91, 195119 (2015)]. We argue that in the half-filled single layer the gapped states may sustain anisotropy, because isotropic pairings may coexist with anis…
The functionalized graphene sheets (FGS)-polyacrylamide (PAM) composite films have been prepared by solution cast technique. The FGS have been synthesized by thermal exfoliation of graphite oxide. Several composites with different weight % (between 0 to 25 wt %) of FGS loading in PAM have been prepared and characterized by XRD, SEM, TEM and FTIR spectroscopy. FTIR analysis revealed the existence of the amide linkage (-NHC= O) between the polymer chain and oxygenated graphene sheets. The electrical and mechanical properties of FGS-PAM composite films have been studied by employing low temperatu…
We discuss the composite fermion pairing state in bilayer quantum Hall systems. After the evaluation of the range of the inter-layer separation in which the quantum Hall state is stabilized, we discuss the effect of inter-layer tunneling on the composite fermion pairing state at ν=1/2. We show that there is a cusp at the transition point between the Halperin (3,3,1) state and the Pfaffian state.
I present a concise account concerning the emergence of a research field, which deals with the thermal properties of graphene, covering the refinement of understanding of phonon transport in two-dimensional material systems. The practical application of graphene and few-layer graphene in thermal interface materials are also discussed.
We provide numerical evidence for composite fermion pairing in quantum Hall bilayer systems at filling $ν=1/2 + 1/2$ for intermediate spacing between the layers. We identify the phase as $p_x + i p_y$ pairing, and construct high accuracy trial wavefunctions to describe the groundstate on the sphere. For large distances between the layers, and for finite systems, a competing "Hund's rule" state, or composite fermion liquid, prevails for certain system sizes. We argue that for larger systems, the pairing phase will persist to larger layer spacing.
We find clear signatures of spin-dependent negative differential resistance in compound systems comprising a graphene nanoribbon and a set of ferromagnetic insulator strips deposited on top of it. The periodic array of ferromagnetic strips induces a proximity exchange splitting of the electronic states in graphene, resulting in the appearance of a superlattice with a spin-dependent energy spectrum. The electric current through the device can be highly polarized and both the current and its polarization manifest non-monotonic dependence on the bias voltage. The device operates therefore as an E…
We consider massless Dirac fermions in a graphene monolayer subject to both a perpendicular magnetic field $B$ and a proximity-induced pairing gap $Δ$. When the chemical potential is at the Dirac point, our exact solution of the Bogoliubov-de Gennes equation yields $Δ$-independent relativistic Landau levels. Since eigenstates depend on $Δ$, many observables nevertheless are sensitive to pairing, e.g., the local density of states or the edge state spectrum. By solving the problem with an additional in-plane electric field, we also discuss how snake states are influenced by a pairing gap.

Vertical graphene heterostructures made up of graphene layers separated by BN spacers allow for novel ways of tuning the interactions between electrons. We study the possibility of electron pairing mediated by modified repulsive interactions. Long range intravalley and short range intervalley interactions give rise to different anisotropic phases. We show that a superconducting state with gaps of opposite signs in different valleys, an odd momentum pairing state, can exist above carrier densities of $5-10 \times 10^{13} {\rm cm}^{-2}$. The dependence of the transition temperature on the differ…
We investigated a multilayer graphene-dielectric composite material, comprising graphene sheets separated by subwavelength-thick dielectric spacer, and found it to exhibit hyperbolic isofrequency wavevector dispersion at far- and mid-infrared frequencies allowing propagation of waves that would be otherwise evanescent in a dielectric. Electrostatic biasing was considered for tunable and controllable transition from hyperbolic to elliptic dispersion. We explored the validity and limitation of the effective medium approximation (EMA) for modeling wave propagation and cutoff of the propagating sp…
A manifestation of electron-hole pairing in nonlinear electromagnetic response of a double layer graphene system is studied. It is shown that the pairing causes the appearance of a number of peaks in the frequency dependence of the intensity of the third harmonic generation (THG). The highest peak corresponds to \hbarω= (2/3)Δ, where ω is the incident wave frequency, and Δ is the order parameter of the electron-hole pairing. The absolute value of the THG intensity in the systems with electron-hole pairing is in several orders of magnitude greater than the THG intensity in the unpaired state. I…
We propose a graphene-based model for realizing a new type of gapless condensate by pairing of electron-like (n) carriers of a Dirac cone conduction band with hole-like (p) carriers of a Dirac valance band. Ferromagnetic superconductivity (FS) in monolayer graphene or pairing between oppositely (n and p) doped layers of a double layer graphene allow for the formation of this p-n superconductivity. For FS in graphene, the p-n condensate dominates the zero temperature phase diagram at low levels of doping and high exchange fields. We show that p-n pairing with p+ip-wave symmetry presents a stabl…
Motivated by the recent experiments [Scientific reports 6, 23051 (2016), Phys. Rev. Lett. 114, 096602 (2015)], we theoretically investigate Cooper pair splitting current in a graphene based Cooper pair beam splitter geometry. By considering the graphene based superconductor as an entangler device, instead of normal (2D) BCS superconductor, we show that the Cooper pair splitting current mediated by Crossed Andreev process is amplified compared to its normal superconductor counterpart. This amplification is attributed to the strong suppression of local normal Andreev reflection process (arising …
The electronic properties of graphene are described by a Dirac Hamiltonian with a fourfold symmetry of spin and valley. This symmetry may yield novel fractional quantum Hall (FQH) states at high magnetic field depending on the relative strength of symmetry breaking interactions. However, observing such states in transport remains challenging in graphene, as they are easily destroyed by disorder. In this work, we observe in the first two Landau levels (v<6) the composite-fermion sequences of FQH states at p/(2p+1) between each integer filling factor. In particular, odd numerator fractions appea…
The exotic physical properties of graphene have led to intense research activities on the synthesis and characterization of graphene composites during the last decade. In this article the methods developed for preparation of such materials and the different application areas are reviewed. The composites discussed are of two types, viz; graphene/polymer and inorganic/ graphene. The techniques of ex-situ hybridization and in-situ hybridization have been pointed out. Some of the application areas are batteries and ultracapacitor for energy storage and fuel cell and solar cell for energy generatio…
The exceptional mechanical properties of graphene have made it attractive for nano-mechanical devices and functional composite materials. Two key aspects of graphene's mechanical behavior are its elastic and adhesive properties. These are generally determined in separate experiments, and it is moreover typically difficult to extract parameters for adhesion. In addition, the mechanical interplay between graphene and other elastic materials has not been well studied. Here, we demonstrate a technique for studying both the elastic and adhesive properties of few-layer graphene (FLG) by placing it o…
Topological pairing of composite fermions has led to remarkable ideas, such as excitations obeying non-Abelian braid statistics and topological quantum computation. We construct a $p$-wave paired Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer (BCS) wave function for composite fermions in the torus geometry, which is a convenient geometry for formulating momentum space pairing as well as for revealing the underlying composite-fermion Fermi sea. Following the standard BCS approach, we minimize the Coulomb interaction energy at half filling in the lowest and the second Landau levels, which correspond to filling facto…
This paper focuses on the performance of the storage of Li and the stability of the hybrid structure of different lattice planes of the silicon clusters and graphene by the first-principle theory. In this paper, we calculate the binding energy, adsorption energy and PDOS of the hybrid structure of the different height and size of the silicon clusters and graphene. We figure out that there can form strong Si-C bonds between the silicon cluster and graphene. Especially, the hybrid structure of the silicon clusters with plane (111) and graphene performs best with the highest formation energy and …
The thermal properties of an epoxy-based binary composites comprised of graphene and copper nanoparticles are reported. It is found that the "synergistic" filler effect, revealed as a strong enhancement of the thermal conductivity of composites with the size-dissimilar fillers, has a well-defined filler loading threshold. The thermal conductivity of composites with a moderate graphene concentration of ~15 wt% exhibits an abrupt increase as the loading of copper nanoparticles approaches ~40 wt%, followed by saturation. The effect is attributed to intercalation of spherical copper nanoparticles …
Polyvinyl-pyrrolidone (PVP) loaded with different fractions of dispersed nano-graphene platelets (NGP) were studied by Broadband Dielectric Spectroscopy in the frequency range from 1 mHz to 1 MHz. Complex permittivity and dynamic ac conductivity as a function of frequency, temperature and composition were explored. The concentration-dependent insulator-to-conductor transition was traced through dependence of the dc conductivity and the onset of the dispersive ac ac conductivity. The temperature evolution of the dielectric spectra, below and above the fractional threshold exhibits different dyn…
Vertical heterostructures combining different layered materials offer novel opportunities for applications and fundamental studies of collective behavior driven by inter-layer Coulomb coupling. Here we report heterostructures comprising a single-layer (or bilayer) graphene carrying a fluid of massless (massive) chiral carriers, and a quantum well created in GaAs 31.5 nm below the surface, supporting a high-mobility two-dimensional electron gas. These are a new class of double-layer devices composed of spatially-separated electron and hole fluids. We find that the Coulomb drag resistivity signi…
The authors report on synthesis and thermal properties of the electrically-conductive thermal interface materials with the hybrid graphene-metal particle fillers. The thermal conductivity of resulting composites was increased by ~500% in a temperature range from 300 K to 400 K at a small graphene loading fraction of 5-vol.-%. The unusually strong enhancement of thermal properties was attributed to the high intrinsic thermal conductivity of graphene, strong graphene coupling to matrix materials and the large range of the length-scale - from nanometers to micrometers - of the graphene and silver…
We present a systematic classification and analysis of possible pairing instabilities in graphene-based moiré superlattices. Motivated by recent experiments on twisted double-bilayer graphene showing signs of triplet superconductivity, we analyze both singlet and triplet pairing separately, and describe how these two channels behave close to the limit where the system is invariant under separate spin rotations in the two valleys, realizing an SU(2)$_+$ $\times$ SU(2)$_-$ symmetry. Further, we discuss the conditions under which singlet and triplet can mix via two nearly degenerate transitions, …
The development of cryogenic semiconductor electronics and superconducting quantum computing requires composite materials that can provide both thermal conduction and thermal insulation. We demonstrated that at cryogenic temperatures, the thermal conductivity of graphene composites can be both higher and lower than that of the reference pristine epoxy, depending on the graphene filler loading and temperature. There exists a well-defined cross-over temperature - above it, the thermal conductivity of composites increases with the addition of graphene; below it, the thermal conductivity decreases…
We report a theoretical study of the many-body effects of electron-electron interaction on the ground-state and spectral properties of double-layer graphene. Using a projector-based renormalization method we show that if a finite voltage difference is applied between the graphene layers electron-hole pairs can be formed and---at very low temperatures---an excitonic instability might emerge in a double-layer graphene structure. The single-particle spectral function near the Fermi surface exhibits a prominent quasiparticle peak, different from neutral (undoped) graphene bilayers. Away from the F…
Graphene/(Poly)vinyl alcohol (PVA) composite film with thickness $60 μm$ were synthesized by solidification of a PVA solution comprising of dispersed graphene nanosheets. The close proximity of the graphene sheets enables the fluctuation induced tunneling of electrons to occur from one sheet to another. The dielectric data show that the present system can be simulated to a parallel resistance-capacitor network. The high frequency exponent of the frequency variation of the ac conductivity indicates that the charge carriers move in a two-dimensional space. The sample preparation technique will b…
The possibility of superconducting pairing of electrons in doped graphene due to in-plane and out-of-plane phonons is studied. Quadratic coupling of electrons with out-of-plane phonons is considered in details, taking into account both deformation potential and bond-stretch contributions. The order parameter of electron-electron pairing can have different structures due to four-component spinor character of electrons wave function. We consider s-wave pairing, diagonal on conduction and valence bands, but having arbitrary structure with respect to valley degree of freedom. The sign and magnitud…
We report on the synthesis of the epoxy-based composites with graphene fillers and testing their electromagnetic shielding efficiency by the quasi-optic free-space method in the extremely high frequency (EHF) band (220 - 325 GHz). The curing adhesive composites were produced by a scalable technique with a mixture of single-layer and few-layer graphene layers of a few-micron lateral dimensions. It was found that the electromagnetic transmission, T, is low even at small concentrations of graphene fillers: T<1% at frequency of 300 GHz for a composite with only 1 wt% of graphene. The main shieldin…
We develop a theory for interlayer pairing of chiral electrons in graphene materials which results in an unconventional superconducting (S) state with s-wave spin-triplet order parameter. In a pure bilayer graphene, this superconductivity exhibits a gapless property with an exotic effect of temperature-induced condensation causing an increase of the pairing amplitude (PA) with increasing temperature. We find that a finite doping opens a gap in the excitation spectrum and weakens this anomalous temperature-dependence. We further explore the possibility of realizing variety of pairing patterns w…
Neutral graphene in strong magnetic fields is believed to be an (exchange stabilized) integer Hall state of completely filled up spin (say) and empty down spin bands of n = 0, two fold valley degenerate Landau levels. We suggest that correlation energy gain from a nearly SU(4) singlet (2 spin $\times$ 2 valley) composite fermi sea formation, at $ν\approx$ \hlf filling for each component, destabilizes ferromagnetic integer quantum Hall state. This radically different scenario is consistent with a dissipative gapless state seen in experiments in neutral graphene. Interesting paired Hall states a…
We report the results of an experimental study of thermal and magnetic properties of nanostructured ferrimagnetic iron oxide composites with graphene and graphite fillers synthesized via the current activated pressure assisted densification. The thermal conductivity was measured using the laser-flash and transient plane source techniques. It was demonstrated that addition of 5 wt. % of equal mixture of graphene and graphite flakes to the composite results in a factor of x2.6 enhancement of the thermal conductivity without significant degradation of the saturation magnetization. The microscopy …
We report on the thermal and electrical properties of hybrid epoxy composites with graphene and boron nitride fillers. The thicknesses, lateral dimensions, and aspect ratios of each filler material were intentionally selected for geometric similarity to one another, in contrast to prior studies that utilized dissimilar filler geometries to achieve a "synergistic" effect. We demonstrate that the electrically-conductive graphene and electrically-insulating boron nitride fillers allow one to effectively engineer the thermal and electrical conductivities of their resulting composites. By varying t…
The physics of the state at even denominator fractional fillings of Landau levels depends on the Coulomb pseudopotentials, and produces, in different GaAs Landau levels, a composite fermion Fermi sea, a stripe phase, or, possibly, a paired composite fermion state. We consider here even denominator fractions in graphene, which has different pseudopotentials as well as a possible four fold degeneracy of each Landau level. We test various composite fermion Fermi sea wave functions (fully polarized, SU(2) singlet, SU(4) singlet) as well as the paired composite fermion states in the n=0 and $n=1$ L…
We study the pairing symmetry of the interlayer paired state of composite fermions in quantum Hall bilayers. Based on the Halperin-Lee-Read (HLR) theory, the effect of the long-range Coulomb interaction and the internal Chern-Simons gauge fluctuation is analyzed with the random-phase approximation beyond the leading order contribution in small momentum expansion, and we observe that the interlayer paired states with a relative angular momentum $l=+1$ are energetically favored for filling $ν=\frac{1}{2}+\frac{1}{2}$ and $\frac{1}{4}+\frac{1}{4}$. The degeneracy between states with $\pm l$ is li…
We consider ground state of electron-hole graphene bilayer composed of two independently doped graphene layers when a condensate of spatially separated electron-hole pairs is formed. In the weak coupling regime the pairing affects only conduction band of electron-doped layer and valence band of hole-doped layer, thus the ground state is similar to ordinary BCS condensate. At strong coupling, an ultrarelativistic character of electron dynamics reveals and the bands which are remote from Fermi surfaces (valence band of electron-doped layer and conduction band of hole-doped layer) are also affect…
We investigated thermal properties of the epoxy-based composites with a high loading fraction - up to f=45 vol.% - of the randomly oriented electrically conductive graphene fillers and electrically insulating boron nitride fillers. It was found that both types of the composites revealed a distinctive thermal percolation threshold at the loading fraction f>20 vol.%. The graphene loading required for achieving the thermal percolation was substantially higher than the loading for the electrical percolation. Graphene fillers outperformed boron nitride fillers in the thermal conductivity enhancemen…
Starting from a continuum-model description, we develop a microscopic weak-coupling theory for superconductivity in twisted double-bilayer graphene. We study both electron-phonon and entirely electronic pairing mechanisms. In each case, the leading superconducting instability transforms under the trivial representation, $A$, of the point group $C_3$ of the system, while the subleading pairing phases belong to the $E$ channel. We explicitly compute the momentum dependence of the associated order parameters and find that the leading state has no nodal points for electron-phonon pairing but exhib…
We theoretically study scattering process and superconducting triplet correlations in a graphene junction comprised of ferromagnet-RSO-superconductor in which RSO stands for a region with Rashba spin orbit interaction. Our results reveal spin-polarized subgap transport through the system due to an anomalous equal-spin Andreev reflection in addition to conventional back scatterings. We calculate equal- and opposite-spin pair correlations near the F-RSO interface and demonstrate direct link of the anomalous Andreev reflection and equal-spin pairings arised due to the proximity effect in the pres…
We demonstrate tunable solid state and flexible graphene field effect devices (FEDs) fabricated using a poly(methylmethacrylate) (PMMA) and lithium fluoride (LiF) composite dielectric. Increasing the concentration of LiF in the composite dielectric reduces the operating gate voltages significantly from 10 V to 1 V required leading to a decrease in resistance. Electron and hole mobility of 350 and 310 cm2/Vs at VD = -5 V are obtained for graphene FEDs with 10 % LiF concentration in the composite. Using composite dielectric also enabled excellent performance on flexible substrates without any si…
We show how the pairing symmetry of superconducting states in twisted bilayer graphene can be experimentally identified by theoretically studying effects of externally applied in-plane magnetic field and strain. In the low field regime, superconducting critical temperature $T_c$ is suppressed by in-plane magnetic field $\boldsymbol{B}_{\parallel}$ in singlet channels, but is enhanced by weak $\boldsymbol{B}_{\parallel}$ in triplet channels, providing an important distinction. The in-plane angular dependence of the critical $\boldsymbol{B}_{\parallel, c}$ has a six-fold rotational symmetry, whi…
The electron-electron interaction in the Landau levels of bilayer graphene is markedly different from that of conventional semiconductors such as GaAs. We show that in the zeroth Landau level of bilayer graphene, in the orbital which is dominated by the non-relativistic second Landau level wave function, by tuning the magnetic field a topological quantum phase transition from an Abelian composite fermion to a non-Abelian parton fractional quantum Hall state can be induced at filling factors $1/2, ~2/5$ and $3/7$. The parton states host exotic anyons that can potentially be utilized to store an…
We show that effective superconducting orders generally emerge at low energy in the superconducting state of graphene with conventionally defined pairing symmetry . We study such a particular interesting example, the $d_{x^2-y^2}+id'_{xy}$ spin singlet pairing superconducting state in graphene, which can be generated by electronic correlation as well as induced through a proximity effect with a d-wave superconductor. We find that effectively the d-wave state is a state with mixed s-wave and exotic $p+ip$-wave pairing orders at low energy. This remarkable property leads to distinctive supercond…
In this work the effects of defects in the superconducting phases of the twisted bilayer graphene (TBG) are investigated. A will-accepted low energy effective model and a non-magnetic impurity potential to mimic defects are employed. Different superconducting pairing symmetries, including $s$-wave, $(d+id)$-wave and $(p+ip)$-wave pairing, are considered. In single impurity case, the local density of states (DOS) are calculated for the pairing symmetries above. For different pairing symmetries the number and property of bound states induced by defects are different. In multi-impurity case, the …
