We discuss the resummation procedure of the superpotential in 4d $\mathcal{N}=2$ SYM theory without matter from the point of view of 2d Liouville conformal field theory, utilizing the AGT correspondence. We identify contributions of different descendants of the intermediate state, defining a conformal block in CFT, to the superpotential and answer the question, which descendants are responsible for the appearance of the branch cuts in the superpotential.
We present recent developments of irregular conformal conformal states. Irregular vertex operators and their adjoint in a new formalism are used to define the irregular conformal states and their inner product instead of using the colliding limit procedure. Free field formalism can be augmented by screening operators which provide more degrees of freedom. The inner product is conveniently given as the partition function of an irregular matrix model. (Deformed) spectral curve is the loop equation of the matrix model at Nekrasov-Shatashivili limit. We present the details of analytic structure of…
Irregular conformal block is motivated by the Argyres-Douglas type of N=2 super conformal gauge theory. We investigate the classical/NS limit of the irregular conformal block using spectral curve on a Riemann surface with irregular punctures, which is equivalent to the loop equation of irregular matrix model. The spectral curve is reduced to the second order (Virasoro symmetry, $SU(2)$ for the gauge theory) and third order ($W_3$ symmetry, $SU(3)$) differential equations of a polynomial with finite degree. The Virasoro and W symmetry generate flow equations in the spectral curve and determine …
In this paper we discuss the method of the resummation of the asymptotic series suggested by Kazakov et al. (1978) and predictions of the higher order terms based on this approach. Application of this method to $φ^4$ model is discussed.
We generalize the computation of anomalous dimension and correction to OPE coefficients at finite conformal spin considered recently in \cite{arXiv:1806.10919, arXiv:1808.00612} to arbitrary space-time dimensions. By using the inversion formula of Caron-Huot and the integral (Mellin) representation of conformal blocks, we show that the contribution from individual exchanges to anomalous dimensions and corrections to the OPE coefficients for "double-twist" operators $[\mathcal{O}_1\mathcal{O}_2]_{Δ,J}$ in $s-$channel can be written at finite conformal spin in terms of generalized Wilson polynom…
We study the relation of irregular conformal blocks with the Painlevé III$_3$ equation. The functional representation for the quasiclassical irregular block is shown to be consistent with the BPZ equations of conformal field theory and the Hamilton-Jacobi approach to Painlevé III$_3$. It leads immediately to a limiting case of the blow-up equations for dual Nekrasov partition function of 4d pure supersymmetric gauge theory, which can be even treated as a defining system of equations for both $c=1$ and $c\to\infty$ conformal blocks. We extend this analysis to the domain of strong-coupling regim…
Classical Virasoro conformal blocks are believed to be directly related to accessory parameters of Floquet type in the Heun equation and some of its confluent versions. We extend this relation to another class of accessory parameter functions that are defined by inverting all-order Bohr-Sommerfeld periods for confluent and biconfluent Heun equation. The relevant conformal blocks involve Nagoya irregular vertex operators of rank 1 and 2 and conjecturally correspond to partition functions of a 4D $\mathcal{N}=2$, $N_f=3$ gauge theory at strong coupling and an Argyres-Douglas theory.
Using some techniques of conformal field theories, we find a closed expression for the contribution of leading twist operators and their descendants, obtained by adding total derivatives, to the operator product expansion (OPE) of two electromagnetic currents in QCD. Our expression resums contributions of all twists and to all orders in perturbation theory up to corrections proportional to the QCD $β$-function. At tree level and to twist-four accuracy, our result agrees with the expression derived earlier by a different method. The results are directly applicable to deeply-virtual Compton scat…
We construct the free field representation of irregular vertex operators of arbitrary rank which generates simultaneous eigenstates of positive modes of Virasoro and W symmetry generators. The irregular vertex operators turn out to be the exponentials of combinations of derivatives of Liouville or Toda fields, creating irregular coherent states. We compute examples of correlation functions of these operators and study their operator algebra.
We perform a detailed study of a class of irregular correlators in Liouville Conformal Field Theory, of the related Virasoro conformal blocks with irregular singularities and of their connection formulae. Upon considering their semi-classical limit, we provide explicit expressions of the connection matrices for the Heun function and a class of its confluences. Their calculation is reduced to concrete combinatorial formulae from conformal block expansions.
We use super-spectral curve to investigate irregular conformal states of integer and half-odd integer rank. The spectral curve is the loop equation of supersymmetrized irregular matrix model. The case of integer rank corresponds to the colliding limit of supersymmetric vertex operators of NS sector and half-odd integer to the Ramond sectors. The spectral curve is simply integrable at Nekrasov-Shatashvili limit and the partition function (inner product of irregular conformal state) is obtained from the superconformal structure manifest in the spectral curve. We present some explicit forms of th…
We construct supersymmetric irregular vertex operators of arbitrary rank, appearing in the colliding limit of primary fields. We find that the structure of the supersymmetric irregular vertices differs significantly from the bosonic case: upon supersymmetrization, the irregular operators are no longer the eigenstates of positive Virasoro and $W_N$ generators but block-diagonalize them. We relate the block-diagonal structure of the irregular vertices to contributions of the Ramond sector to the colliding limit.
We study the partition function of the matrix model of finite size that realizes the irregular conformal block for the case of the ${\cal N}=2$ supersymmetric $SU(2)$ gauge theory with $N_f =2$. This model has been obtained in [arXiv:1008.1861 [hep-th]] as the massive scaling limit of the $β$ deformed matrix model representing the conformal block. We point out that the model for the case of $β=1$ can be recast into a unitary matrix model with log potential and show that it is exhibited as a discrete Painlevé system by the method of orthogonal polynomials. We derive the Painlevé II equation, ta…
By performing resummation of small fermion-antifermion pairs within the pentagon form factor program to scattering amplitudes in planar N = 4 superYang-Mills theory, we construct multichannel conformal blocks within the flux-tube picture for N-sided NMHV polygons. This procedure is equivalent to summation of descendants of conformal primaries in the OPE framework. The resulting conformal partial waves are determined by multivariable hypergeometric series of Lauricella-Saran type.
We present a factorized decomposition of 4-point scalar conformal blocks near the lightcone, which applies to arbitrary intermediate spin and general spacetime dimensions. Then we discuss the systematic expansion in large intermediate spin and the resummations of the large-spin tails of Regge trajectories. The basic integrals for the Lorentzian inversion are given by Wilson functions.
We compute the correlation functions of irregular Gaiotto states appearing in the colliding limit of the Liouville theory by using "regularizing" conformal transformations mapping the irregular (coherent) states to regular vertex operators in the Liouville theory. The $N$-point correlation functions of the irregular vertex operators of arbitrary ranks are expressed in terms of $N$-point correlators of primary fields times the factor that involves regularized higher-rank Schwarzians of the above conformal transformation. In particular, in the case of three-point functions the general answer is …
We study the correlators of irregular vertex operators in two-dimensional conformal field theory (CFT) in order to propose an exact analytic formula for calculating numbers of partitions, that is: 1) for given $N,k$, finding the total number $λ(N|k)$ of length $k$ partitions of $N$: $N=n_1+...+n_k;0<n_1\leq{n_2}...\leq{n_k}$. 2) finding the total number $λ(N)=\sum_{k=1}^Nλ(N|k)$ of partitions of a natural number $N$ We propose an exact analytic expression for $λ(N|k)$ by relating two-point short-distance correlation functions of irregular vertex operators in $c=1$ conformal field theory ( the …
We study the analytic structure of semiclassical conformal blocks, namely of the 1-point conformal block on the torus and of the 4-point conformal block on the sphere, as functions of the intermediate dimension. We interpret their discontinuities, which can be revealed with the use of a particular resummation procedure, holographically in terms of configurations of geodesics in AdS3. In other words, we study the behavior of the $Ω$-deformed $\mathcal N=2$ SYM theory in the Nekrasov-Shatashvili limit near those singular points, where naively the W-boson with non-vanishing angular momentum becom…
One can obtain exact information about Virasoro conformal blocks by analytically continuing the correlators of degenerate operators. We argued in recent work that this technique can be used to explicitly resolve information loss problems in AdS$_3$/CFT$_2$. In this paper we use the technique to perform calculations in the small $1/c \propto G_N$ expansion: (1) we prove the all-orders resummation of logarithmic factors $\propto \frac{1}{c} \log z$ in the Lorentzian regime, demonstrating that $1/c$ corrections directly shift Lyapunov exponents associated with chaos, as claimed in prior work, (2)…
The Schroedinger eigenvalue problems for the Whittaker-Hill potential $Q_{2}(x)=\tfrac{1}{2} h^2\cos4x+4hμ\cos2x$ and the periodic complex potential $Q_{1}(x)=\tfrac{1}{4}h^2{\rm e}^{-4ix}+2h^2\cos2x$ are studied using their realizations in two-dimensional conformal field theory (2dCFT). It is shown that for the weak coupling (small) $h\in\mathbb{R}$ and non-integer Floquet parameter $ν\notin\mathbb{Z}$ spectra of hamiltonians $H_{i}\!=\!-{\rm d}^2/{\rm d}x^2 + Q_{i}(x)$, $i=1,2$ and corresponding two linearly independent eigenfunctions are given by the classical limit of the "single flavor" a…
