We study the relaxation dynamics of the electron system in graphene flakes under Landau quantization regime using a novel approach of time-resolved Raman scattering. The non-resonant character of the experiment allows us to analyze the field dependence of the relaxation rate. Our results clearly evidence sharp increase in the relaxation rate upon the resonance between the energy of the Landau transition and the G-band and shed new light on relaxation mechanism of the Landau-quantized electrons in graphene beyond the previously studied Auger scattering.
We theoretically investigate multiphonons resonance Raman scattering between the Landau levels in graphene on the polar substrate using the Huang-Rhys's model. We not only present the single and multiple surface optical (SO) phonons scattering, but also propose the combined multiphonons scattering (CMS), which is composed of the SO phonon and longitudinal acoustic phonon. We find that the CMS has a blue-shift behavior with increasing the magnetic field, differing from these SO phonon resonance scattering at a special magnetic field. This behavior may be used to explain the changing shoulder of…
The electronic Raman scattering of bulk graphite at zero magnetic field reveals a structureless signal characteristic of a metal. For T<~100 K and B > 2 T, several peaks at energies scaling linearly with magnetic field were observed and ascribed to transitions from the lowest energy Landau level(s) (LL) to excited states belonging to the same ladder. The LLs are equally (unequally) spaced for high (low) quantum numbers, being surprisingly consistent with the LL sequence from massive Dirac Fermions (m* = 0.033(2) m_e) with Berry's phase 2πfound in graphene bilayers. These results provide spectr…
We perform polarization-resolved Raman spectroscopy on graphene in magnetic fields up to 45T. This reveals a filling-factor-dependent, multi-component anticrossing structure of the Raman G peak, resulting from magnetophonon resonances between magnetoexcitons and E$_{2g}$ phonons. This is explained with a model of Raman scattering taking into account the effects of spatially inhomogeneous carrier densities and strain. Random fluctuations of strain-induced pseudo-magnetic fields lead to increased scattering intensity inside the anti-crossing gap, consistent with the experiment.
We report on a magneto-Raman scattering study of graphene flakes located on the surface of a bulk graphite substrate. By spatially mapping the Raman scattering response of the surface of bulk graphite with an applied magnetic field, we pinpoint specific locations which show the electronic excitation spectrum of graphene. We present the characteristic Raman scattering signatures of these specific locations. We show that such flakes can be superimposed with another flake and still exhibit a graphene-like excitation spectrum. Two different excitation laser energies (514.5 and 720 nm) are used to …
We investigate the contribution of the low-energy electronic excitations towards the Raman spectrum of bilayer graphene for the incoming photon energy Omega >> 1eV. Starting with the four-band tight-binding model, we derive an effective scattering amplitude that can be incorporated into the commonly used two-band approximation. Due to the influence of the high-energy bands, this effective scattering amplitude is different from the contact interaction amplitude obtained within the two-band model alone. We then calculate the spectral density of the inelastic light scattering accompanied by the e…
We probe electronic excitations between Landau levels in freestanding $N-$layer graphene over a broad energy range, with unprecedented spectral and spatial resolution, using micro-magneto Raman scattering spectroscopy. A characteristic evolution of electronic bands in up to five Bernal-stacked graphene layers is evidenced and shown to remarkably follow a simple theoretical approach, based on an effective bilayer model. $(N>3)$-layer graphene appear as appealing candidates in the quest for novel phenomena, particularly in the quantum Hall effect regime. Our work paves the way towards minimally-…
We present a magneto-Raman study on high-quality single-layer graphene grown by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) that is fully encapsulated in hexagonal boron nitride by a dry transfer technique. By analyzing the Raman D, G, and 2D peaks, we find that the structural quality of the samples is comparable to state-of-the-art exfoliated graphene flakes. From B field dependent Raman measurements, we extract the broadening and associated lifetime of the G peak due to anharmonic effects. Furthermore, we determine the decay width and lifetime of Landau level (LL) transitions from magneto-phonon resonan…
Magneto-Raman scattering experiments from the surface of graphite reveal novel features associated to purely electronic excitations which are observed in addition to phonon-mediated resonances. Graphene-like and graphite domains are identified through experiments with $\sim 1μm$ spatial resolution performed in magnetic fields up to 32T. Polarization resolved measurements emphasize the characteristic selection rules for electronic transitions in graphene. Graphene on graphite displays the unexpected hybridization between optical phonon and symmetric across the Dirac point inter Landau level tra…
Landau level broadening mechanisms in electrically neutral and quasineutral graphene were investigated through micro-magneto-Raman experiments in three different samples, namely, a natural single-layer graphene flake and a back-gated single-layer device, both deposited over Si/SiO2 substrates, and a multilayer epitaxial graphene employed as a reference sample. Interband Landau level transition widths were estimated through a quantitative analysis of the magnetophonon resonances associated with optically active Landau level transitions crossing the energy of the E_2g Raman-active phonon. Contra…
Here, we report Landau regulation in Raman modes for geometric graphene structures including single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWNTs). First-principles calculations show that radial-tangential Raman modes (RTMs) (comprising radial and tangential Eigenvectors) appear in order, following radial breading mode (RBM) (~150 cm-1). RTMs reveal two degenerated or non-degenerated frequencies per node and extend upto G (~1590 cm-1). In Raman measurements for SWNTs, we demonstrate the existence of RTMs at ~180-1440 cm-1, which have been partially interpreted as RBM band for ~180-300 cm-1 and intermediate fre…
The discovery of 2-dimensional (2D) materials, such as CrI3, that retain magnetic ordering at monolayer thickness has resulted in a surge of research in 2D magnetism from both pure and applied perspectives. Here, we report a magneto-Raman spectroscopy study on multilayered CrI3, focusing on two new features in the spectra which appear at temperatures below the magnetic ordering temperature and were previously assigned to high frequency magnons. We observe a striking evolution of the Raman spectra with increasing magnetic field in which clear, sudden changes in intensities of the modes are attr…
The effective mass and superfluidity-normal phase transition temperature of magnetoexcitons in topological insulator bilayers are theoretically investigated. The intra-Landau-level Coulomb interaction is treated perturbatively, from which the effective magnetoexciton mass is analytically discussed. The inclusion of inter-Landau-level Coulomb interaction by more exact numerical diagonalization of the Hamiltonian brings out important modifications to magnetoexciton properties, which are specially characterized by prominent reduction in the magnetoexciton effective mass and promotion in the super…
We investigate the signature of the low-energy electronic excitations in the Raman spectrum of monolayer and bilayer graphenes. The dominant contribution to the Raman spectra is due to the interband electron-hole pairs, which belong to the irreducible representation A$_2$ of the point group C$_{6v}$ of the graphene lattice, and are characterised by crossed polarisation of incoming and outgoing photons. At high magnetic fields, this is manifested by the excitation of electron-hole (e-h) inter-Landau-level transitions with selection rule $n^-\to n^+$. Weaker Raman-active inter-Landau-level modes…
If bilayer graphene is placed in a high perpendicular magnetic field, several quantum Hall plateaus are observed at low enough temperatures. Of these, the $σ_{xy}=4ne^2/h$ sequence ($n\neq0$) is explained by standard Landau quantization, while the other integer plateaus arise due to interactions. The low-energy excitations in both cases are magnetoexcitons, whose dispersion relation depends on single- and many-body effects in a complicated manner. Analyzing the magnetoexciton modes in bilayer graphene, we find that the mixing of different Landau level transitions not only renormalizes them, bu…
In two dimensional electron system in magnetic fields such that the Fermi energy lies in high Landau levels and driven by microwave $ac$-field a divergence of the Coulomb screening due to the Ryzhii photocurrent is predicted. A model of magneto-transport with superposition of long range and short range disorders is introduced. In this model the larger is the gradient of the long range potential the smaller is the longitudinal conductivity/resistivity. As a consequence a qualitative theory of the recently discovered zero-resistance states is given.
We present analytical results concerning the magneto-roton instability in higher Landau levels evaluated in the single mode approximation. The roton gap appears at a finite wave vector, which is approximately independent of the LL index n, in agreement with numerical calculations in the composite-fermion picture. However, a large maximum in the static susceptibility indicates a charge density modulation with wave vectors $q_0(n)\sim 1/\sqrt{2n+1}$, as expected from Hartree-Fock predictions. We thus obtain a unified description of the leading charge instabilities in all LLs.
We provide the ultimate explanation of one of the core features of microwave-induced magnetoresistance oscillations in high mobility two dimensional electron systems: the 1/4-cycle phase shift of minima. We start with the radiation-driven electron orbits model with the novel concept of scattering flight-time between Landau states. We calculate the extrema and nodes positions obtaining an exact coincidence with the experimental ones. The main finding is that the physical origin of the phase shift is a delay of $\fracπ{2}$ of the radiation-driven Landau guiding center with respect to radiation, …
The single mode approximation has proved useful for the excitation spectrum at $ν=1/3$. We apply it to general fractions and find that it predicts $n$ magneto-roton minima in the dispersion of the Girvin-MacDonald-Platzman collective mode for the fractional quantum Hall states at $ν=n/(2n+1)$, and one magneto-roton minimum for both the composite Fermi sea and the paired composite fermion state. Experimental relevance of the results will be considered.
Massless Dirac electrons in graphene fill Landau levels with energies scaled as square roots of their numbers. Coulomb interaction between electrons leads to mixing of different Landau levels. The relative strength of this interaction depends only on dielectric susceptibility of surrounding medium and can be large in suspended graphene. We consider influence of Landau level mixing on the properties of magnetoexcitons and magnetoplasmons - elementary electron-hole excitations in graphene in quantizing magnetic field. We show that, at small enough background dielectric screening, the mixing lead…
Using the $α$-T$_3$ model, we carried out analytical and numerical calculations for the static and dynamic polarization functions in the presence of a perpendicular magnetic field. These results were employed to determine the longitudinal dielectric function and the magnetoplasmon dispersion relation. The magnetic field splits the continuous valence, conduction and flat energy subband into discrete Landau levels which present significant effects on the polarization function and magnetoplasmon dispersion. We present results for a doped layer in the integer quantum Hall regime for fixed hopping …
We measure an anomalous magnetoresistance peak within the lowest Landau level (nu = 1) minimum of a two-dimensional hole system on (110) GaAs. Self-consistent calculations of the valence band mixing show that the two lowest spin-index Landau levels anticross in a perpendicular magnetic field B consistent with where the experimental peak is measured, Bp. The temperature dependence of the anomalous peak height is interpreted as an activated behavior across this anticrossing gap. Calculations of the spin polarization in the lowest Landau levels predict a rapid switch from about -3/2 to +3/2 spin …
In strong magnetic fields, massless electrons in graphene populate relativistic Landau levels with the square-root dependence of each level energy on its number and magnetic field. Interaction-induced deviations from this single-particle picture were observed in recent experiments on cyclotron resonance and magneto-Raman scattering. Previous attempts to calculate such deviations theoretically using the unscreened Coulomb interaction resulted in overestimated many-body effects. This work presents many-body calculations of cyclotron and magneto-Raman transitions in single-layer graphene in the p…
Auger relaxation in 2D strongly correlated electron gas can be represented as an Auger-like process for neutral magnetoplasmon excitations. The case of "dielectric" state with lack of free electrons (i.e. at integer filling $ν$) is considered. Really the Auger-like process is a coalescence of two magnetoplasmons which are converted into a single one of a different plasmon mode with zero 2D wave-vector. This event turns out to be energetically allowed for magnetoplasmons near their roton minima where the spectrum has the infinite density of states. As a result the additional possibility appears…
In high-mobility two-dimensional electron gases Landau levels are already formed at very small magnetic field values. Such two-dimensional electron gases show a huge negative magnetoresistance at low temperatures and an unexpected and very strong non-linear behavior with the applied current. This non-linearity depends on carrier concentration and is explained by the subtle interplay of elastic scattering within Landau levels and in between Landau levels.
We have performed broad-band zero-field and magneto-infrared spectroscopy of the three dimensional topological insulator Bi$_{0.91}$Sb$_{0.09}$. The zero-field results allow us to measure the value of the direct band gap between the conducting $L_a$ and valence $L_s$ bands. Under applied field in the Faraday geometry (\emph{k} $||$ \emph{H} $||$ C1), we measured the presence of a multitude of Landau level (LL) transitions, all with frequency dependence $ω\propto \sqrt{H}$. We discuss the ramification of this observation for the surface and bulk properties of topological insulators.
Magnetic states of the electron gas confined in modulation-doped core-shell nanowires are calculated for a transverse field of arbitrary strength and orientation. Magneto-conductance is predicted within the Landauer approach. The modeling takes fully into account the radial material modulation, the prismatic symmetry and the doping profile of realistic GaAs/AlGaAs devices within an envelope-function approach, and electron-electron interaction is included in a mean-field self-consistent approach. Calculations show that in the low free-carrier density regime, magnetic states can be described in …

We have measured high frequency magnetotransport of a high quality two-dimensional electron system (2DES) near the reentrant insulating phase (RIP) at Landau fillings ($ν$) between 1/5 and 2/9. The magneto\textit{conductivity} in the RIP has resonant behavior around 150 MHz, showing a \textit{peak} at $ν$$\sim$0.21. Our data support the interpretation of the RIP as due to some pinned electron solid. We have also investigated a narrowly confined 2DES recently found to have a RIP at 1/3$<$$ν$$<$1/2 and we have revealed features, not seen in DC transport, that suggest some intriguing interplay be…
Relaxation of collective plasmon inter-Landau-level excitation is determined by emission of LO-phonons or by Auger-like processes when this emission is suppressed off the magneto-phonon resonance conditions. The decay of "one-cyclotron" magneto-plasmons with wave-vectors near the roton minimum is studied under the condition of filling $ν=1$. Some features of this relaxation should be helpful for the experimental detection of the magneto-rotons in a strongly correlated 2D electron gas.
We perform Raman scattering experiments on natural graphite in magnetic fields up to 45 T, observing a series of peaks due to interband electronic excitations over a much broader magnetic field range than previously reported. We also explore electron-phonon coupling in graphite via magnetophonon resonances. The Raman G peak shifts and splits as a function of magnetic field, due to the magnetically tuned coupling of the E2g optical phonons with the K- and H-point inter-Landau-level excitations. The analysis of the observed anticrossing behavior allows us to determine the electron-phonon couplin…
Negative longitudinal magnetoresistance (NLMR) is shown to occur in topological materials in the extreme quantum limit, when a magnetic field is applied parallel to the excitation current. We perform pulsed and DC field measurements on Pb1-xSnxSe epilayers where the topological state can be chemically tuned. The NLMR is observed in the topological state, but is suppressed and becomes positive when the system becomes trivial. In a topological material, the lowest N=0 conduction Landau level disperses down in energy as a function of increasing magnetic field, while the N=0 valence Landau level d…
We study collective electronic excitations in graphene in the integer quantum Hall regime, concentrating mainly on excitations with spin reversal such as spin-flip and spin-wave excitations. We show that these excitations are correctly accounted for in the time-dependent Hartree-Fock and strong magnetic field approximations, in contrast to spin-conserving (magneto-exciton) modes which involve a strong Landau-level mixing at non-zero wave vectors. The collective excitations are discussed in view of prominent theorems, such as Kohn's and Larmor's. Whereas the latter remains valid in graphene and…
The energy-dependence of the electronic scattering time is probed by Landau level spectroscopy in quasi neutral multilayer epitaxial graphene. From the Landau levels broadening we find that the scattering rate increases linearly with energy. This implies a surprising property of the Landau level spectrum in graphene - the number of the resolved Landau levels remains constant with the applied magnetic field. Insights are given about possible scattering mechanism and carrier mobilities in the graphene system investigated.
The magneto-phonon resonance or MPR occurs in semiconductor materials when the energy spacing between Landau levels is continuously tuned to cross the energy of an optical phonon mode. MPRs have been largely explored in bulk semiconductors, in two-dimensional systems and in quantum dots. Recently there has been significant interest in the MPR interactions of the Dirac fermion magnetoexcitons in graphene, and a rich splitting and anti-crossing phenomena of the even parity E2g long wavelength optical phonon mode have been theoretically proposed and experimentally observed. The MPR has been found…
Oscillatory magnetoresistance measurements on graphene have revealed a wealth of novel physics. These phenomena are typically studied at low currents. At high currents, electrons are driven far from equilibrium with the atomic lattice vibrations so that their kinetic energy can exceed the thermal energy of the phonons. Here, we report three non-equilibrium phenomena in monolayer graphene at high currents: (i) a "Doppler-like" shift and splitting of the frequencies of the transverse acoustic (TA) phonons emitted when the electrons undergo inter-Landau level (LL) transitions; (ii) an intra-LL Ma…
We theoretically study the band structure and the electronic transport in the Weyl semimetal nanowires in magnetic fields, and demonstrate that the interplay of the Fermi-arc surface states and the bulk Landau levels plays a crucial role in the magnetotransport. We show that a magnetic field perpendicular to the surface immediately hybridizes the counter-propagating surface modes into a series of dispersionless 0th Landau levels, and it leads to a significant reduction of the traveling modes and a rapid decay of the conductance. On the contrary, a magnetic field parallel to the wire adds linea…
The Peierl's tight-binding model, with the band Hamiltonian matrix, is used to calculate the magnetoelectronic structure of a monolayergraphite. There are many flat Landau levels and some oscillatory Landau levels. The low Landau-level energies are characterized by a simple relation, not for others. State degeneracy is, respectively, fourfold degenerate and doubly degenerate at low and high energies. The level spacing declines quickly and then grows gradually in the increase of state energy. The main features of electronic properties are directly reflected in density of states. The predicted r…
Magnetotransport measurements are performed in ultraclean (lithographically patterned) graphene nanoribbons down to 70 nm. At high magnetic fields, a fragmentation of the electronic spectrum into a Landau levels pattern with unusual features is unveiled. The singular Landau spectrum reveals large magneto-oscillations of the Fermi energy and valley degeneracy lifting. Quantum simulations suggest some disorder threshold at the origin of mixing between opposite chiral magnetic edge states and disappearance of quantum Hall effect.
The unique zero energy Landau Level of graphene has a particle-hole symmetry in the bulk, which is lifted at the boundary leading to a splitting into two chiral edge modes. It has long been theoretically predicted that the splitting of the zero-energy Landau level inside the {\it bulk} can lead to many interesting physics, such as quantum spin Hall effect, Dirac like singular points of the chiral edge modes, and others. However, so far the obtained splitting with high-magnetic field even on a hBN substrate are not amenable to experimental detection, and functionality. Guided by theoretical cal…
We investigate theoretically the Landau levels (LLs) and magneto-transport properties of phosphorene under a perpendicular magnetic field within the framework of the effective \textbf{\emph{k$\cdot$p}} Hamiltonian and tight-binding (TB) model. At low field regime, we find that the LLs linearly depend both on the LL index $n$ and magnetic field $B$, which is similar with that of conventional semiconductor two-dimensional electron gas. The Landau splittings of conduction and valence band are different and the wavefunctions corresponding to the LLs are strongly anisotropic due to the different an…
The micro-Raman scattering response of a graphene-like location on the surface of bulk natural graphite is investigated both at $T=\unit{4.2}{K}$ and at room temperature in magnetic fields up to 29 T. Two different polarization configurations, co-circular and crossed-circular, are employed in order to determine the Raman scattering selection rules. Several distinct series of electronic excitations are observed and we discuss their characteristic shapes and amplitudes. In particular, we report a clear splitting of the signals associated with the inter-Landau level excitations $-n\rightarrow+n$.…
Experimental demonstrations of 1D van der Waals material tellurium have been presented by Raman spectroscopy under strain and magneto-transport. Raman spectroscopy measurements have been performed under strains along different principle axes. Pronounced strain response along c-axis is observed due to the strong intra-chain covalent bonds, while no strain response is obtained along a-axis due to the weak inter-chain van der Waals interaction. Magneto-transport results further verify its anisotropic property, resulting in dramatically distinct magneto-resistance behaviors in terms of three diffe…
Silicene is a competitive and promising 2D material, possessing interesting topological, electronic and optical properties. The presence of strong spin orbit interaction in silicene and its analogues, germanene and tinene, leads to the opening of a gap in the energy spectrum and spin-splitting of the bands in each valley. We develop a general method to determine the magneto-optic response of silicene, when a Gaussian beam is incident on silicene grown on a dielectric substrate in the presence of a static magnetic field. We use a semiclassical treatment of silicene monolayer to describe the Far…
We review recent work on superlattices in monolayer and bilayer graphene. We highlight the role of the quasiparticle chirality in generating new Dirac fermion modes with tunable anisotropic velocities in one dimensional (1D) superlattices in both monolayer and bilayer graphene. We discuss the structure of the Landau levels and magnetotransport in such superlattices over a wide range of perpendicular (orbital) magnetic fields. In monolayer graphene, we show that an orbital magnetic field can reverse the anisotropy of the transport imposed by the superlattice potential, suggesting possible switc…
Optical absorption properties of magnetoexcitons in topological insulator bilayers under a strong magnetic field are theoretically studied. A general analytical formula of optical absorption selection rule is obtained in the noninteracting as well as Coulomb intra-Landau-level interacting cases, which remarkably helps to interpret the resonant peaks in absorption spectroscopy and the corresponding formation of Dirac-type magnetoexcitons. We also discuss the optical absorption spectroscopy of magnetoexcitons in the presence of inter-Landau-level Coulomb interaction, which becomes more complex. …
We develop a theory of Coulomb drag due to momentum transfer between graphene layers in a strong magnetic field. The theory is intended to apply in systems with disorder that is weak compared to Landau level separation, so that Landau level mixing is weak, but strong compared to correlation energies within a single Landau level, so that fractional quantum Hall physics is not relevant. We find that in contrast to the zero-field limit, the longitudinal magneto-Coulomb drag is finite, and in fact attains a maximum at the simultaneous charge neutrality point (CNP) of both layers. Our theory also p…
The strong spin-orbit coupling and the broken inversion symmetry in monolayer transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) results in spin-valley coupled band structures. Such a band structure leads to novel applications in the fields of electronics and optoelectronics. Density functional theory calculations as well as optical experiments have focused on spin-valley coupling in the valence band. Here we present magnetotransport experiments on high-quality n-type monolayer molybdenum disulphide (MoS$_{2}$) samples, displaying highly resolved Shubnikov-de Haas oscillations at magnetic fields as low a…
Magneto-optical transitions between Landau levels can provide precise spectroscopic information on the electronic structure and excitation spectra of graphene, enabling probes of substrate and many-body effects. We calculate the magneto-optical conductivity of large-size graphene flakes using a tight-binding approach. Our method allows us to directly compare the magneto-optical response of an isolated graphene flake with one aligned on hexagonal boron nitride giving rise to a periodic superlattice potential. The substrate interaction induces band gaps away from the Dirac point. In the presence…
Superlattices (SLs) in monolayer and bilayer graphene, formed by spatially periodic potential variations, lead to a modified bandstructure with extra finite-energy and zero-energy Dirac fermions with tunable anisotropic velocities. We theoretically show that transport in a weak perpendicular (orbital) magnetic field allows one to not only probe the number of emergent Dirac points but also yields further information about their dispersion. or monolayer graphene, we find that a moderate magnetic field can lead to a strong reversal of the transport anisotropy imposed by the SL potential, an effec…
The linear response of two-dimensional electron gas in a perpendicular magnetic field in the presence of a spatially dependent classically smooth electrostatic potential is studied theoretically, by application of the Kubo formula for nonlocal conductivity tensor. In the classical transport regime, a general expression for the conductivity tensor through the correlation functions of the homogeneous electron gas is derived. The quantum transport regime, when Landau quantization is essential, is studied for the case of unidirectional periodic potential modulation. Apart from the Shubnikov-de Haa…
Inelastic light scattering from Dirac-type electrons in graphene is shown to be dominated by the generation of the inter-band electronic modes which are odd in terms of time-inversion symmetry and belong to the irreducible representation A$_2$ of the point group C$_{6v}$ of the honeycomb crystal. At high magnetic fields, these electron-hole excitations appear as peculiar $n^- \to n^+$ inter-Landau-level modes with energies $ω_n=2\sqrt{2n} \hbar v/λ_B$ and characteristically crossed polarisation of in/out photons.
We present magneto-Raman scattering studies of electronic inter Landau level excitations in quasi-neutral graphene samples with different strengths of Coulomb interaction. The band velocity associated with these excitations is found to depend on the dielectric environment, on the index of Landau level involved, and to vary as a function of the magnetic field. This contradicts the single-particle picture of non-interacting massless Dirac electrons, but is accounted for by theory when the effect of electron-electron interaction is taken into account. Raman active, zero-momentum inter Landau leve…
Using three-pulse four-wave-mixing femtosecond spectroscopy, we excite a non-radiative coherence between the discrete Landau levels of an undoped quantum well and study its dynamics. We observe quantum beats that reflect the time evolution of the coherence between the two lowest Landau level magnetoexcitons. We interpret our observations using a many-body theory and find that the inter Landau level coherence decays with a new time constant, substantially longer than the corresponding interband magnetoexciton dephasing times. Our results indicate a new intraband excitation dynamics that cannot …
We present a theoretical description of the interlayer magnetoresistance in the layered Dirac fermion system with the application to the organic conductor α-(BEDT-TTF)_2I_3 under pressure. Assuming a non-vertical interlayer tunneling and including higher Landau level effects we calculate the interlayer conductivity using the Kubo formula. We propose a physical picture of the experimentally observed crossover from the negative interlayer magnetoresistance, where the Dirac fermion zero-energy Landau level plays a central role, to the positive interlayer magnetoresistance that is the consequence o…
We report on theoretical studies of the recently discovered negative giant magnetoresistance in ultraclean two-dimensional electron systems at low temperatures. We adapt a transport model to a ultraclean scenario and calculate the elastic scattering rate (electron-charged impurity) in a regime where the Landau level width is much smaller than the cyclotron energy. We obtain that for low magnetic fields the scattering rate and, as a consequence, the longitudinal magnetoresistance dramatically drop because of the small density of states between Landau levels. We also study the dependence of this…
Polarization-resolved magneto-luminescence, together with simultaneous magneto-transport measurements, have been performed on a two-dimensional electron gas (2DEG) confined in CdTe quantum well in order to determine the spin-splitting of fully occupied electronic Landau levels, as a function of the magnetic field (arbitrary Landau level filling factors) and temperature. The spin splitting, extracted from the energy separation of the σ+ and σ- transitions, is composed of the ordinary Zeeman term and a many-body contribution which is shown to be driven by the spin-polarization of the 2DEG. It is…
