It is noted that using complex Hessian equations and the concavity inequalities for elementary symmetric polynomials implies a generalized form of Hodge index inequality. Inspired by this result, using Gårding's theory for hyperbolic polynomials, we obtain a mixed Hodge-index type theorem for classes of type $(1,1)$. The new feature is that this Hodge-index type theorem holds with respect to mixed polarizations in which some satisfy particular positivity condition, but could be degenerate and even negative along some directions.
We prove a Second Main Theorem type inequality for any log-smooth projective pair $(X,D)$ such that $X\setminus D$ supports a complex polarized variation of Hodge structures. This can be viewed as a Nevanlinna theoretic analogue of the Arakelov inequalities for variations of Hodge structures due to Deligne, Peters and Jost-Zuo. As an application, we obtain in this context a criterion of hyperbolicity that we use to derive a vast generalization of a well-known hyperbolicity result of Nadel. The first ingredient of our proof is a Second Main Theorem type inequality for any log-smooth projective …
The Hodge numerical invariants of a variation of Hodge structure over a smooth quas--projective variety are a measure of complexity for the global twisting of the limit mixed Hodge structure when it degenerates. These invariants appear in inequalities which they may have correction terms, called Arakelov inequalities. One may investigate the correction term to make them into equalities, also called Arakelov equalities. We investigate numerical Arakelov type (in)equilities for a family of surfaces fibered by curves. Our method uses Arakelov identities in a weight 1 and also in a weight 2 variat…
In this paper we study the $\mathbb{C}^*$-fixed points in moduli spaces of Higgs bundles over a compact Riemann surface for a complex semisimple Lie group and its real forms. These fixed points are called Hodge bundles and correspond to complex variations of Hodge structure. We introduce a topological invariant for Hodge bundles that generalizes the Toledo invariant appearing for Hermitian Lie groups. A main result of this paper is a bound on this invariant which generalizes both the Milnor-Wood inequality of the Hermitian case and the Arakelov inequalities of classical variations of Hodge str…
Motivated by our previous work on Hodge-index type inequalities, we give a form of mixed Hodge-Riemann bilinear relation by using the notion of $m$-positivity, whose proof is an adaptation of the works of Timorin and Dinh-Nguyên. This mixed Hodge-Riemann bilinear relation holds with respect to mixed polarizations in which some satisfy particular positivity condition, but could be degenerate along some directions. In particular, it applies to fibrations of compact Kähler manifolds.
Finite matroids are combinatorial structures that express the concept of linear independence. In 1964, G.-C. Rota conjectured that the coefficients of the "characteristic polynomial" of a matroid $M$, polynomial whose coefficients enumerate its subsets of given rank, form a log-concave sequence. K. Adiprasito, J. Huh et E. Katz have proved this conjecture using methods which, although entirely combinatorial, are inspired by algebraic geometry. From the Bergman fan of the matroid $M$, they define a graded "Chow ring" $A(M)$ for which they prove analogs of the Poincaré duality, the Hard Lefschet…
Let $X$ be a $d$ dimensional projective manifold, $E$ be an ample vector bundle on $X$ and $0\le λ_N\le λ_{N-1} \le \cdots \le λ_1 \le \operatorname{rank}(E)$ be a partition of $d-2$. We prove that the Schur class $s_λ(E)\in H^{d-2,d-2}(X)$ has the Hard Lefschetz property and satisfies the Hodge-Riemann bilinear relations. As a consequence we obtain various new inequalities between characteristic classes of ample vector bundles, including a higher-rank version of the Khovanskii-Teissier inequalities.
In this paper we investigate the exactness of the Grassmannian BGG complexes introduced in a previous work (arXiv:1211.2486), and obtain some inequalities between some Hodge numbers of some irregular varieties. In particular, we obtain sharp lower bounds for the Hodge numbers of smooth subvarieties of Abelian varieties, as well as some improvements of results of Lazarsfeld and Popa and Lombardi concerning threefolds and fourfolds.
We give two kinds of generalizations of Arakelov type inequalities for higher dimensional families. These results give higher dimensional generalizations (in both fibers and bases) of the weakly boundedness in Paršin-Arakelov's reformulation of the geometric Shafarevich conjecture. As a consequence, we deduce the following results. Hyperbolicity: We give an alternative proof (using the theory of degeneration of Hodge structure) to the hyperbolicity (in Paršin-Arakelov's reformulation, i.e. Viehweg's hyperbolicity conjecture) of the base of a family with maximal variation whose general fibers a…
We establish in this note some Cauchy-Schwarz-type inequalities on compact Kähler manifolds, which generalize the classical Khovanskii-Teissier inequalities to higher-dimensional cases. Our proof is to make full use of the mixed Hodge-Riemann bilinear relations due to Dinh and Nguy$\hat{\text{e}}$n. A proportionality problem related to our main result is also proposed.
For a simply connected complex algebraic variey $X$, by the mixed Hodge structures $(W_{\bullet}, F^{\bullet})$ and $(\tilde W_{\bullet}, \tilde F^{\bullet})$ of the homology group $H_{*}(X;\mathbb Q)$ and the homotopy groups $π_{*}(X)\otimes \mathbb Q$ respectively, we have the following mixed Hodge polynomials $$MH_X(t,u,v):= \sum_{k,p,q} \operatorname{dim} \Bigl ( Gr_{F^{\bullet}}^{p} Gr^{W_{\bullet}}_{p+q} H_k (X;\mathbb C) \Bigr) t^{k} u^{-p} v^{-q},$$ $$\quad \, \, MH^π_X(t,u,v):= \sum_{k,p,q} \operatorname{dim} \Bigl (Gr_{\tilde F^{\bullet}}^{p} Gr^{\tilde W_{\bullet}}_{p+q} (π_k(X) \ot…
We show in this article that Kähler hyperbolic manifolds satisfy a family of optimal Chern number inequalities and the equality cases can be attained by some compact ball quotients. These present restrictions to complex structures on negatively-curved compact Kähler manifolds, thus providing evidence to the rigidity conjecture of S.-T. Yau. The main ingredients in our proof are Gromov's results on the $L^2$-Hodge numbers, the $-1$-phenomenon of the $χ_y$-genus and Hirzebruch's proportionality principle. Similar methods can be applied to obtain parallel results on Kähler non-elliptic manifolds.…
