It has been conjectured that Chern-Simons (CS) gauged `regular' bosons in the fundamental representation are `level-rank' dual to CS gauged critical fermions also in the fundamental representation. Generic relevant deformations of these conformal field theories lead to one of two distinct massive phases. In previous work, the large $N$ thermal free energy for the bosonic theory in the unHiggsed phase has been demonstrated to match the corresponding fermionic results under duality. In this note we evaluate the large $N$ thermal free energy of the bosonic theory in the Higgsed phase and demonstrate that our results, again, perfectly match the predictions of duality. Our computation is performed in a unitary gauge by integrating out the physical excitations of the theory - i.e. W bosons - at all orders in the 't Hooft coupling. Our results allow us to construct an exact quantum effective potential for ${\bar ϕ} ϕ$, the lightest gauge invariant scalar operator in the theory. In the zero temperature limit this exact Landau-Ginzburg potential is non-analytic at ${\bar ϕϕ}=0$. The extrema of this effective potential at positive ${\bar ϕ}ϕ$ solve the gap equations in the Higgsed phase while the extrema at negative ${\bar ϕ} ϕ$ solve the gap equations in the unHiggsed phase. Our effective potential is bounded from below only for a certain range of $x_6$ (the parameter that governs sextic interactions of $ϕ$). This observation suggests that the regular boson theory has a stable vacuum only when $x_6$ lies in this range.
The Ginzburg-Landau model with a Chern-Simons term is shown to possess two different scaling regimes depending on whether the mass of the scalar field is zero or not. In contrast to pure $ϕ^4$ theories, the Ginzburg-Landau model with a topologically generated mass exhibits quite different properties in perturbation theory. Our analysis suggests that the two scalings could coincide at a non-perturbative level. This view is supported by a 1/N-expansion in the massive scalar field regime.
We derive the exact dual theory of a lattice Ginzburg-Landau theory with an additional topological Chern-Simons (CS) term. It is shown that in the zero-temperature limit, the statistical parameter $θ=1/2π$ corresponds to a fixed point of the duality transformation. Thus we have found a nontrivial example of self-duality in three dimensions. In this scenario, the specialization of anyonic to fermionic statistics my be viewed as a phase transition.
We generalize previously obtained results for the (all orders in the 't Hooft coupling) thermal free energy of bosonic and fermionic large $N$ Chern-Simons theories with fundamental matter, to values of the chemical potential larger than quasiparticle thermal masses. Building on an analysis by Geracie, Goykhman and Son, we present a simple explicit formula for the occupation number for a quasiparticle state of any given energy and charge as a function of the temperature and chemical potential. This formula is a generalization to finite 't Hooft coupling of the famous occupation number formula …
A bosonic string coupled to the generalized Chern-Simons theory in 3+1D acquires a magnetic field along itself, when it is closed, and a topological charge at its extremity, when it is open. We construct the creation operators for the full quantum field states associated to these strings and determine the dual algebra satisfied by them. We show that the creation operator fo the composite state of a quantum closed bosonic string, bearing a magnetic flux, and a topologically charged open bosonic string, possesses generalized statistics. The relation of our results with previous approaches to the…
We develop a supersymmetric extension of Chern-Simons theory and Chern-Simons-Landau-Ginzburg theory for supersymmetric quantum Hall liquid. Supersymmetric counterparts of topological and gauge structures peculiar to the Chern-Simons theory are inspected in the supersymmetric Chern-Simons theory. We also explore an effective field theoretical description for the supersymmetric quantum Hall liquid. The key observation is the the charge-flux duality. Based on the duality, we derive a dual supersymmetric Chern-Simons-Landau-Ginzburg theory, and discuss physical properties of the topological excit…
The Chern-Simons Ginzburg-Landau theory for the fractional Quantum Hall effect is studied in the presence of a confining potential. We review the bulk properties of the model and discuss how the plateau formation emerges without any impurity potential. The effect is related to changes, by accumulation of charge, at the edge when the chemical potential is changed. Fluctuations about the ground state are examined and an expression is found for the velocity of the massless edge mode in terms of the confining potential. The effect of including spin is examined for the case when the system is fully…
We consider the planar limit of Chern-Simons theories coupled to a scalar $ϕ$ in the fundamental representation of a $U(N)_k$ gauge group, at both the regular and Wilson-Fisher conformal points. These theories have one single-trace scalar operator $J_0=ϕ^{\dagger}ϕ$. We calculate its connected planar $n$-point functions, when all the external momenta are collinear. More specifically, we derive an algebraic recurrence relation that expresses each such $n$-point function in terms of lower-point ones. As an application, we study the four-point function, which was recently shown to be completely f…
We present explicit computations and conjectures for $2 \to 2$ scattering matrices in large $N$ {\it $U(N)$} Chern-Simons theories coupled to fundamental bosonic or fermionic matter to all orders in the 't Hooft coupling expansion. The bosonic and fermionic S-matrices map to each other under the recently conjectured Bose-Fermi duality after a level-rank transposition. The S-matrices presented in this paper may be regarded as relativistic generalization of Aharonov-Bohm scattering. They have unusual structural features: they include a non analytic piece localized on forward scattering, and obey…
In this article it is studied, at variational level, a mathematical setup given by the Landau-Ginzburg Chern-Simons model for anyons in 2+1-dimensions within the framework of dimensional reduced Ue(1)xUg(1) extended electromagnetism with both vector gauge fields (photons) and pseudo-vector gauge fields (pseudo-photons) such that both magnetic and electric vortexes coexist in the planar system. This model exhibits explicit planar P and T discrete symmetries being the Hall conductivity consistently a tensor and the Dirac quantization on the electric and magnetic coupling constants is equivalent …
We study the possible BPS Wilson loops in three-dimensional ${\cal N}=4$ Chern-Simons-matter theory which involve only the gauge field and bilinears of the scalars. Previously known examples are the analogues of the Gaiotto-Yin loops preserving four supercharges and "latitude" loops preserving two. We carry out a careful classification and find, in addition, loops preserving three supercharges, further inequivalent classes of loops preserving two supercharges and loops preserving a single supercharge. For each of the classes of loops, we present a representative example and analyse their full …
We study the Quantum Field Theory of nonrelativistic bosons coupled to a Chern--Simons gauge field at nonzero particle density. This field theory is relevant to the study of anyon superconductors in which the anyons are described as {\bf bosons} with a statistical interaction. We show that it is possible to find a mean field solution to the equations of motion for this system which has some of the features of bose condensation. The mean field solution consists of a lattice of vortices each carrying a single quantum of statistical magnetic flux. We speculate on the effects of the quantum correc…
We have covariantized the Lagrangians of the U(1)_V * U(1)_A models, which have U(1)_V * U(1)_A gauge symmetry in two dimensions, and studied their symmetric structures. The special property of the U(1)_V * U(1)_A models is the fact that all these models have an extra time coordinate in the target space-time. The U(1)_V * U(1)_A models coupled to two-dimensional gravity are string models in 26+2 dimensional target space-time for bosonic string and in 10+2 dimensional target space-time for superstring. Both string models have two time coordinates. In order to construct the covariant Lagrangians…
We study one-loop correction to the Chern-Simons coefficient $κ=k/4π$ in $N=1,2,3$ supersymmetric Yang-Mills Chern-Simons systems. In the pure bosonic case, the shift of the parameter $k$ is known to be $k\rightarrow k + c_v$, where $c_v$ is the quadratic Casimir of the gauge group. In the $N=1$ case, the fermionic contribution cancels the bosonic contribution by half and the shift is $k \rightarrow k+ c_v/2$, making the theory anomalous if $c_v$ is odd. In the $N=2,3$ cases, the fermionic contribution cancels the bosonic contribution completely and there is no correction. We also calculate th…
We consider a Ginzburg-Landau model for superconductivity with a Chern-Simons term added. The flow diagram contains two charged fixed points corresponding to the tricritical and infrared stable fixed points. The topological coupling controls the fixed point structure and eventually the region of first order transitions disappears. We compute the critical exponents as a function of the topological coupling. We obtain that the value of the $ν$ exponent does not vary very much from the XY value, $ν_{XY}=0.67$. This shows that the Chern-Simons term does not affect considerably the XY scaling of su…
We construct an example of supersymmetric Chern-Simons-matter theory with a matter field transforming as a singlet representation of the supersymmetry algebra, where the bosonic and fermionic degrees of freedom do not match. This is obtained as a non-relativistic limit of the N=2 Chern-Simons-matter theory in 1+2 dimensions, where the particle and anti-particle coexist. We also study the index to investigate the mimatch of bosonic and fermionic degrees of freedom.
It is shown that the action of the bosonic sector of D=11 supergravity may be obtained by means of a suitable scaling of the originally dimensionless fields of a generalized Chern-Simons action. This follows from the eleven-form CS-potential of the most general linear combination of closed, gauge invariant twelve-forms involving the sp(32)-valued two-form curvatures supplemented by a three-form field. In this construction, the role of the skewsymmetric four-index auxiliary function needed for the first order formulation of $D=11$ supergravity is played by the gauge field associated with the fi…
Dualities provide deep insight into physics by relating two seemingly distinct theories. Here we consider a duality between lattice fermions and bosons in (2+1) spacetime dimensions, relating free massive Dirac fermions to Abelian Chern-Simons Higgs (ACSH) bosons. To establish the duality we represent the exact partition function of the lattice fermions in terms of the writhe of fermionic worldlines. On the bosonic side the partition function is expressed in the writhe of the vortex loops of the particle-vortex dual of the ACSH Lagrangian. In the continuum and scaling limit we show these to be…
The (pre)multisymplectic geometry of the De Donder--Weyl formalism for field theories is further developed for a variety of field theories including a scalar field theory from the canonical Klein-Gordon action, the electric and magnetic Carrollian scalar field theories, bosonic string theory from the Nambu-Goto action, and $2+1$ gravity as a Chern-Simons theory. The Lagrangians for the scalar field theories and for $2+1$ Chern-Simons gravity are found to be singular in the De Donder--Weyl sense while the Nambu-Goto Lagrangian is found to be regular. Furthermore, the constraint structure of the…
This work completes the classification of the cubic vertices for arbitrary spin massless bosons in three dimensions started in a previous companion paper by constructing parity-odd vertices. Similarly to the parity-even case, there is a unique parity-odd vertex for any given triple $s_1\geq s_2\geq s_3\geq 2$ of massless bosons if the triangle inequalities are satisfied ($s_1<s_2+s_3$) and none otherwise. These vertices involve two (three) derivatives for odd (even) values of the sum $s_1+s_2+s_3$. A non-trivial relation between parity-even and parity-odd vertices is found. Similarly to the pa…
We calculate the topological part of the electromagnetic response of Bosonic Integer Quantum Hall (BIQH) phases in odd (spacetime) dimensions, and Bosonic Topological Insulator (BTI) and Bosonic chiral semi-metal (BCSM) phases in even dimensions. To do this we use the Nonlinear Sigma Model (NLSM) description of bosonic symmetry-protected topological (SPT) phases, and the method of gauged Wess-Zumino (WZ) actions. We find the surprising result that for BIQH states in dimension $2m-1$ ($m=1,2,\dots$), the bulk response to an electromagnetic field $A_μ$ is characterized by a Chern-Simons term for…
The `Landau--Ginzburg' theory of Girvin and MacDonald, modified by adding the natural magnetic term, is shown to admit stable topological as well as non-topological vortex solutions. The system is the commun $λ\to0$ limit of two slightly different non-relativistic Maxwell--Chern--Simons models of the type introduced recently by Manton. The equivalence with the model of Zhang, Hansson and Kivelson is demonstrated.
We consider the superspace of D=3, N=5 supersymmetry using SO(5)/U(2) harmonic coordinates. Three analytic N=5 gauge superfields depend on three vector and six harmonic bosonic coordinates and also on six Grassmann coordinates. Decomposition of these superfields in Grassmann and harmonic coordinates yields infinite-dimensional supermultiplets including a three-dimensional gauge Chern-Simons field and auxiliary bosonic and fermionic fields carrying SO(5) vector indices. The superfield action of this theory is invariant with respect to D=3, N=6 conformal supersymmetry realized on N=5 superfields…
We extend the bosonization of $2+1$ - dimensional QED with one fermionic flavor performed previously to the case of QED with an induced Chern - Simons term. The coefficient of this term is quantized: $e^2n/8π$, $n\in {\bf Z}$. The fermion operators are constructed in terms of the bosonic fields $A_i$ and $E_i$. The construction is similar to that in the $n=0$ case. The resulting bosonic theory is Lorentz invariant in the continuum limit and has Maxwell's equations as its equations of motion. The algebra of bilinears exhibits nontrivial operatorial mixing with lower dimensional operators, which…
In this paper, based on the $ AdS_{4}/CFT_{3} $ duality, we have explored the precise connection between the abelian Chern-Simons (CS) Higgs model in ($ 2+1 $) dimensions to that with its dual gravitational counterpart living in one higher dimension. It has been observed that the $ U(1) $ current computed at the boundary of the $ AdS_{4} $ could be expressed as the local function of the vortex solution that has the remarkable structural similarity to that with the Ginzburg-Landau (GL) type local expression for the current associated with the Maxwell-CS type vortices in ($ 2+1 $) dimensions. In…
We consider Chern-Simons theory coupled to massive fundamental matter in three spacetime dimensions at finite temperature, in the large $N$ limit. We compute several thermal correlators in this theory for both fermionic and bosonic matter separately. The results are computed in the large $N$ 't Hooft limit but for arbitrary values of the 't Hooft coupling. Furthermore, we generalize the computations of the four-point function of fundamental scalars in the bosonic theory to finite temperature. As a consistency check, we see that the results obtained here agree with the existing previous results…
We study the moduli space of a super Chern-Simons theory on a manifold with the topology ${\bf R}\times §$, where $§$ is a compact surface. The moduli space is that of flat super connections modulo gauge transformations on $§$, and we study in detail the case when $§$ is atorus and the supergroup is $OSp(m|2n)$. The bosonic moduli space is determined by the flat connections for the maximal bosonic subgroup $O(m)\times Sp(2n)$, while the fermionic moduli appear only for special parts of the bosonic moduli space, which are determined by a vanishing determinant of a matrix associated to the boson…
We comment on the regularization of the expectation values of Wilson surfaces for the bosonic string in the (3+1) dimensions. We analyze the singular behaviors of propagator for the Chern-Simons action with the additional higher order terms.
We study the equivalence between the self-dual and the Maxwell-Chern-Simons (MCS) models coupled to dynamical, U(1) charged matter, both fermionic and bosonic. This is done through an iterative procedure of gauge embedding that produces the dual mapping of the self-dual vector field theory into a Maxwell-Chern-Simons version. In both cases, to establish this equivalence a current-current interaction term is needed to render the matter sector unchanged. Moreover, the minimal coupling of the original self-dual model is replaced by a non-minimal magnetic like coupling in the MCS side. Unlike the …
We study N=2 supersymmetric Chern-Simons Higgs models in $(2+1)$-dimensions and the existence of extended underlying supersymmetric quantum mechanics algebras. Our findings indicate that the fermionic zero modes quantum system in conjunction with the system of zero modes corresponding to bosonic fluctuations, are related to an N=4 extended 1-dimensional supersymmetric algebra with central charge, a result closely connected to the N=2 spacetime supersymmetry of the total system. We also add soft supersymmetric terms to the fermionic sector in order to examine how this affects the index of the c…
We use 3d bosonization dualities to derive new non-supersymmetric dualities between bosonic quiver theories in $2+1$ dimensions. It is shown that such dualities are a natural non-Abelian generalization of the bosonic particle-vortex duality. A special case of such dualities is applicable to Chern-Simons theories living on interfaces in $3+1$ dimensional $SU(N)$ Yang-Mills theory across which the theta angle jumps. We also analyze such interfaces in a holographic construction which provides further evidence for novel dualities between quiver gauge theories and gauge theories with adjoint scalar…
We construct the D=3, N=5 harmonic superspace using the SO(5)/U(1) x U(1) harmonics. Three gauge harmonic superfields satisfy the off-shell constraints of the Grassmann and harmonic analyticities. The corresponding component supermultiplet contains the gauge field A_m and an infinite number of bosonic and fermionic fields with the SO(5) vector indices arising from decompositions of gauge superfields in harmonics and Grassmann coordinates. The nonabelian superfield Chern-Simons action is invariant with respect to the N=6 superconformal supersymmetry realized on the N=5 superfields. The componen…
Two-dimensional quantum systems with competing orders can feature a deconfined quantum critical point, yielding a continuous phase transition that is incompatible with the Landau-Ginzburg-Wilson scenario, predicting instead a first-order phase transition. This is caused by the LGW order parameter breaking up into new elementary excitations at the critical point. Canonical candidates for deconfined quantum criticality are quantum antiferromagnets with competing magnetic orders, captured by the easy-plane CP$^1$ model. A delicate issue however is that numerics indicates the easy-plane CP$^1$ ant…
We construct Landau-Ginzburg Lagrangians for minimal bosonic ($N=0$) $W$-models perturbed with the least relevant field, inspired by the theory of $N=2$ supersymmetric Landau-Ginzburg Lagrangians. They agree with the Lagrangians for unperturbed models previously found with Zamolodchikov's method. We briefly study their properties, e.g. the perturbation algebra and the soliton structure. We conclude that the known properties of $N=2$ solitons (BPS, lines in $W$ plane, etc.) hold as well. Hence, a connection with a generalized supersymmetric structure of minimal $W$-models is conjectured.
It is an important open problem to understand the landscape of non-Abelian fractional quantum Hall phases which can be obtained starting from physically motivated theories of Abelian composite particles. We show that progress on this problem can be made using recently proposed non-Abelian bosonization dualities in 2+1 dimensions, which morally relate $U(N)_k$ and $SU(k)_{-N}$ Chern-Simons-matter theories. The advantage of these dualities is that regions of the phase diagram which may be obscure on one side of the duality can be accessed by condensing local operators on the other side. Starting…
We provide a lattice demonstration of $(2+1)$-dimensional field theory dualities relating free Dirac or Majorana fermions to strongly-interacting bosonic Chern-Simons-matter theories. Specifically, we prove the recent conjecture that $U(N)$ level-1 with $N_f$ gauged complex Wilson-Fisher scalars (where $1\le N_f\le N$) is dual to $N_f$ Dirac fermions, as well as the analogous conjecture relating $SO(N)$ theories with real Wilson-Fisher scalars to Majorana fermions for $1\le N_f\le N-2$. Furthermore, we discover new dualities that allow us to explain the interesting phase structure of the $SO(N…
We study three dimensional O(N)_k and U(N)_k Chern-Simons theories coupled to a scalar field in the fundamental representation, in the large N limit. For infinite k this is just the singlet sector of the O(N) (U(N)) vector model, which is conjectured to be dual to Vasiliev's higher spin gravity theory on AdS_4. For large k and N we obtain a parity-breaking deformation of this theory, controlled by the 't Hooft coupling lambda = 4 πN / k. For infinite N we argue (and show explicitly at two-loop order) that the theories with finite lambda are conformally invariant, and also have an exactly margi…
The dynamical content of local AdS supergravity in five dimensions is discussed. The bosonic sector of the theory contains the vielbein ($e^{a}$), the spin connection ($ω^{ab}$) and internal SU(N) and U(1) gauge fields. The fermionic fields are complex Dirac spinors ($ψ^{i}$) in a vector representation of SU(N). All fields together form a connection 1-form in the superalgebra SU(2,2|N). For N=4, the symplectic matrix has maximal rank in a locally AdS background in which the dynamical degrees of freedom can be identified. The resulting efective theory have different numbers of bosonic and fermi…
We study N=2 supersymmetric Chern-Simons Higgs models in $(2+1)$-dimensions. As we will demonstrate, an extended supersymmetric quantum mechanics algebras underlies the fermionic zero modes quantum system and the zero modes corresponding to bosonic fluctuations. These two algebras, in turn, combine to give an N=4 extended 1-dimensional supersymmetric algebra with central charge
We perform the complete bosonization of 2+1 dimensional QED with one fermionic flavor in the Hamiltonian formalism. The fermion operators are explicitly constructed in terms of the vector potential and the electric field. We carefully specify the regularization procedure involved in the definition of these operators, and calculate the fermionic bilinears and the energy - momentum tensor. The algebra of bilinears exhibits the Schwinger terms which also appear in perturbation theory. The bosonic Hamiltonian density is a local polynomial function of $A_i$ and $E_i$, and we check explicitly the Lo…
It has been conjectured that fermions minimally coupled to a Chern-Simons gauge field define a conformal field theory (CFT) that is level-rank dual to Chern-Simons gauged Wilson-Fisher Bosons. The CFTs in question admit relevant deformations parametrized by a real mass. When the mass deformation is positive, the duality of the two deformed theories has previously been checked in detail in the large $N$ limit by comparing explicit all orders results on both sides of the duality. In this paper we perform a similar check for the case of negative mass deformations. In this case the bosonic field c…
We discuss a two-dimensional lagrangian model with $N=2$ supersymmetry described by a Kähler potential $K(X,\bar{X})$ and superpotential $gX^k$ which explicitly exhibits renormalization group flows to infrared fixed points where the central charge has a value equal that of the $N=2$, $A_{k-1}$ minimal model. We consider the dressing of such models by N=2 supergravity: in contradistinction to bosonic or $N=1$ models, no modification of the $\b$-function takes place.
For three-dimensional ${\cal N}=4$ super Chern-Simons-matter theories associated to necklace quivers $U(N_0) \times U(N_1) \times \cdots U(N_{2r-1}) $, we study at quantum level the two kinds of 1/2 BPS Wilson loop operators recently introduced in arXiv:1506.07614. We perform a two-loop evaluation and find the same result for the two kinds of operators, so moving to higher loops a possible quantum uplift of the classical degeneracy. We also compute the 1/4 BPS bosonic Wilson loop and discuss the quantum version of the cohomological equivalence between fermionic and bosonic Wilson loops. We com…
Abelian Chern-Simons theory, characterized by the so-called $K$ matrix, has been quite successful in characterizing and classifying Abelian fractional quantum hall effect (FQHE) as well as symmetry protected topological (SPT) phases, especially for bosonic SPT phases. However, there are still some puzzles in dealing with fermionic SPT(fSPT) phases. In this paper, we utilize the Abelian Chern-Simons theory to study the fSPT phases protected by arbitrary Abelian total symmetry $G_f$. Comparing to the bosonic SPT phases, fSPT phases with Abelian total symmetry $G_f$ has three new features: (1) it…
We consider a large-N Chern-Simons theory for the attractive bosonic matter (Jackiw-Pi model) in the Hamiltonian collective-field approach based on the 1/N expansion. We show that the dynamics of low-lying density excitations around the ground-state vortex configuration is equivalent to that of the Sutherland model. The relationship between the Chern-Simons coupling constant lambda and the Calogero-Sutherland statistical parameter lambda_s signalizes some sort of statistical transmutation accompanying the dimensional reduction of the initial problem.
Quantum Hall systems offer the most familiar setting where strong inter-particle interactions combine with the topology of single particle states to yield novel phenomena. Despite our mature understanding of these systems, an open challenge has been to to develop a microscopic theory capturing both their universal and non-universal properties, when the Hamiltonian is restricted to the non-commutative space of the lowest Landau level. Here we develop such a theory for the Jain sequence of bosonic fractional quantum Hall states at fillings $ν={p\over p+1}$. Building on a lowest Landau level desc…
We investigate the quantum consistency of p-form Maxwell-Chern-Simons electrodynamics in 3p+2 spacetime dimensions (for p odd). These are the dimensions where the Chern--Simons term is cubic, i.e., of the form FFA. For the theory to be consistent at the quantum level in the presence of magnetic and electric sources, we find that the Chern--Simons coupling constant must be quantized. We compare our results with the bosonic sector of eleven dimensional supergravity and find that the Chern--Simons coupling constant in that case takes its corresponding minimal allowed value.
We show in this letter that P- and T-odd terms of the electromagnetic potentials (P; parity, T; time reversal) are induced and lead an unusual phenomenon in P- and T-violating superconductors discovered recently. The Ginzburg-Landau action includes this term in the gauge invariant manner. The coefficient of the term is nearly topological invariant with a small correction and equals to the fine structure constant approximately. Unusual ``Hall effect'' {\it without external} magnetic field could be observed by SQUID.
We suggest that the extrinsic curvature and torsion of a bosonic string can be employed as variables in a two dimensional Landau-Ginzburg gauge field theory. Their interpretation in terms of the abelian Higgs multiplet leads to two different phases. In the phase with unbroken gauge symmetry the ground state describes open strings while in the phase with broken gauge symmetry the ground state involves closed strings. When we allow for an additional abelian gauge structure along the string, we arrive at an interpretation in terms of the two dimensional SU(2) Yang-Mills theory.
We investigate B-type topological Landau-Ginzburg theory with one variable, with D2-brane boundary conditions. We find that the allowed brane configurations are determined in terms of the possible factorizations of the superpotential, and compute the corresponding open string chiral rings. These are characterized by bosonic and fermionic generators that satisfy certain relations. Moreover we show that the disk correlators, being continuous functions of deformation parameters, satisfy the topological sewing constraints, thereby proving consistency of the theory. In addition we show that the ope…
In this paper we present a theory of Singlet Quantum Hall Effect (SQHE). We show that the Halperin-Haldane SQHE wave function can be written in the form of a product of a wave function for charged semions in a magnetic field and a wave function for the Chiral Spin Liquid of neutral spin-$\12$ semions. We introduce field-theoretic model in which the electron operators are factorized in terms of charged spinless semions (holons) and neutral spin-$\12$ semions (spinons). Broken time reversal symmetry and short ranged spin correlations lead to $SU(2)_{k=1}$ Chern-Simons term in Landau-Ginzburg act…
Using gravity description, we compute various static length scales of N=6 Chern Simons plasma in a strongly coupled regime. For this, we consider the CP3 compactification of the type IIA supergravity down to four dimensions, and identify all the low-lying bosonic modes up to masses corresponding to the operator dimension 3 together with all the remaining CP3 invariant modes. We find the true mass gap, the Debye screening mass and the corresponding dual operators to be probed in the field theory side.
In this paper we discuss SU(N) Chern-Simons theories at level k with both fermionic and bosonic vector matter. In particular we present an exact calculation of the free energy of the N=2 supersymmetric model (with one chiral field) for all values of the 't Hooft coupling in the large N limit. This is done by using a generalization of the standard Hubbard-Stratanovich method because the SUSY model contains higher order polynomial interactions.
In this paper we will study non-abelian Chern-Simons theory on a deformed superspace. We will deform the superspace in such a way that it includes the noncommutativity between bosonic and fermionic coordinates. We will first analyse the BRST and the anti-BRST symmetries of the Chern-Simons theory on this deformed superspace. Then we will analyse the extended BRST and the extended anti-BRST symmetries of this theory in the Batalin-Vilkovisky (BV) formalism. Finally, we will express these extended BRST and extended anti-BRST symmetries in extended superspace formalism by introducing new Grassman…
Actions for extended objects based on Transgression and Chern-Simons forms for space-time groups and supergroups provide a gauge theoretic framework in which to embed previously studied String and Brane actions, extending them in interesting ways that may be useful in a future non perturbative formulation of String Theory. In this Letter I investigate aspects of the actions of these theories, including equations of motion and boundary conditions, gauge and space-time symmetries, and Dirac quantization of tensions. This theoretical framework is shown to include in certain limit and for a suitab…
We study the motion of vortices in the planar Ginzburg-Landau model with Schrodinger-Chern-Simons dynamics. We compare the moduli space approximation with the results of numerical simulations of the full field theory and find that there is agreement if the coupling constant is very close to the critical value separating Type I from Type II superconductors. However, there are significant qualitative differences even for modest deviations from the critically coupled regime. Radiation effects produce forces which are of the same order of magnitude as the intervortex force and therefore have a sig…
We present exact large N calculus of four point function in general Chern-Simons bosonic and fermionic vector models. Applying the LSZ formula to the four point function we determine two body scattering amplitudes in these theories taking a special care for a non-analytic term to achieve unitarity in the singlet channel. We show that the S-matrix enjoys the bosonization duality, unusual crossing relation and non-relativistic reduction to Aharonov-Bohm scattering. We also argue that the S-matrix develops a pole in a certain range of coupling constants, which disappears in the range where the th…
