The topological properties of hardcore bosons on ribbons of honeycomb lattice are studied using quantum Monte Carlo simulations. We map out a rich phase diagram with the superfluid and insulator phases at various fillings. Particularly, it is revealed that the insulator state at half filling is a topological bosonic state, which is characterized by a nontrivial Berry phase and a pair of edge states. We provide intuitive picture to understand this topological bosonic insulator state by showing that it can be adiabatically mapped to a topological fermionic model. It is also shown that the topological edge states are robust against weak interactions beyond the hardcore repulsion. Our results can be simulated by using bosonic cold atoms trapped in designed optical lattices.
We study the Kane-Mele-Hubbard model with an additional inversion-symmetry-breaking term. Using the topological Hamiltonian approach, we calculate the $\mathbb{Z}_2$ invariant of the system as function of spin-orbit coupling, Hubbard interaction $U$, and inversion-symmetry-breaking on-site potential. The phase diagram calculated in that way shows that, on the one hand, a large term of the latter kind destroys the topological non-trivial state. On the other hand, however, this inversion-symmetry-breaking field can enhance the topological state, since for moderate values the transition from the …
Linelike hardcore bosonic domain walls in a staggered potential on honeycomb lattice are studied using quantum Monte Carlo simulations. The phase diagrams of ribbons with zigzag and armchair domain walls are mapped, which contain superfluid and insulator phases at various fillings. In the $ρ=\frac{1}{2}$ insulator, the domain wall separates two charge-density-wave (CDW) regions with opposite Berry curvatures. Associated with the change of topological properties, superfluid transport occurs down the domain wall. The superfluid density associated with a zigzag domain wall is much larger than tha…
Based on the Cluster Perturbation solution of the Hubbard hamiltonian for a 2-D honeycomb lattice we present quasiparticle band structures of nanoribbons at half filling as a function of the on-site electron-electron repulsion. We show that at moderate values of e-e interaction ribbons with armachair shaped edges exhibit an unexpected semimetallic behavior, recovering the original insulating character only at larger values of $U$.
We study hard-core bosons on the honeycomb lattice in the presence of anisotropic nearest-neighbor repulsive interactions. Using a quantum Monte Carlo (QMC) technique, we extract the phase diagram of the model in terms of the filling and the anisotropy. At half-filling we find a dimer insulator phase near maximum anisotropy that is characterized by a finite topological entanglement entropy $\ln(2)/2$, indicative of a fractional quantum Hall state for bosons. We identify the presence of edge states and derive a QMC-based method to extract and verify their chirality. Remarkably, this phase arise…
By quantum Monte Carlo simulations of bosons in gapped honeycomb lattices, we show the existence of bosonic edge states. For single layer honeycomb lattice, bosonic edge states can be controlled to appear, cross the gap and merge into bulk states by an on-site potential applied on the outmost sites of the boundary. On bilayer honeycomb lattice, bosonic edge state traversing the gap at half filling is demonstrated. The topological origin of the bosonic edge states is discussed with pseudo Berry curvature. The results will simulate experimental studies of these exotic bosonic edge states with ul…
We study the orbitally frustrated singlet-triplet models that emerge in the context of spin-orbit coupled Mott insulators with $t_{2g}^4$ electronic configuration. In these compounds, low-energy magnetic degrees of freedom can be cast in terms of three-flavor "triplon" operators describing the transitions between spin-orbit entangled $J=0$ ionic ground state and excited $J=1$ levels. In contrast to a conventional, flavor-isotropic O(3) singlet-triplet models, spin-orbit entangled triplon interactions are flavor-and-bond selective and thus highly frustrated. In a honeycomb lattice, we find clos…
We study the structure of the ground state wave functions of bosonic Symmetry Protected Topological (SPT) insulators in 3 space dimensions. We demonstrate that the differences with conventional insulators are captured simply in a dual vortex description. As an example we show that a previously studied bosonic topological insulator with both global U(1) and time-reversal symmetry can be described by a rather simple wave function written in terms of dual "vortex ribbons". The wave function is a superposition of all the vortex ribbon configurations of the boson, and a factor (-1) is associated wi…
Quantum information storage using charge-neutral quasiparticles are expected to play a crucial role in the future of quantum computers. In this regard, magnons or collective spin-wave excitations in solid-state materials are promising candidates in the future of quantum computing. Here, we study the quantum squeezing of Dirac and topological magnons in a bosonic honeycomb optical lattice with spin-orbit interaction by utilizing the mapping to quantum spin-$1/2$ XYZ Heisenberg model on the honeycomb lattice with discrete Z$_2$ symmetry and a Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction. We show that the s…
Motivated by the recent proposal of Bosonic Dirac materials (BDM), we revisited the Ising model on a honeycomb lattice in the presence of the longitudinal and transverse fields. We apply linear spin-wave theory to obtain the magnon dispersion and its degenerated points. These special degenerated points emerge on the excitation spectrum as a function of the external fields and can be identified as Bosonic Dirac Points (BDP). Since that, in the vicinity of these points the Magnons becomes massless with a linear energy spectrum as well as insensible in relation to weak impurity, exactly as it occ…
Hardcore bosons on honeycomb lattice ribbons with zigzag edges are studied using exact numerical simulations. We map out the phase diagrams of ribbons with different widths, which contain superfluid and insulator phases at various fillings. We show that charge domain walls are energetically favorable, in sharp contrast to the more typical occupation of a set of sites on a single sublattice of the bipartite geometry at $ρ=\frac{1}{2}$ filling. This `self-organized domain wall' separates two charge-density-wave (CDW) regions with opposite Berry curvatures. Associated with the change of topologic…
We present an analytical theory for the magnetic phase diagram for zigzag edge terminated honeycomb nanoribbons described by a Hubbard model with an interaction parameter U . We show that the edge magnetic moment varies as ln U and uncover its dependence on the width W of the ribbon. The physics of this owes its origin to the sensory organ like response of the nanoribbons, demonstrating that considerations beyond the usual Stoner-Landau theory are necessary to understand the magnetism of these systems. A first order magnetic transition from an anti-parallel orientation of the moments on opposi…
We examine the low energy effective theory of phase oscillations in a two-dimensional granular superconducting sheet where the grains are arranged in honeycomb lattice structure. Using the example of graphene we present the evidence for the engineered Dirac nodes in the bosonic excitations: the spectra of the collective bosonic modes cross at the K and K points in the Brillouin zone and form Dirac nodes. We show how two different types of collective phase oscillations are obtained and that they are analogous to the Leggett and the Bogoliubov-Anderson-Gorkov modes in a two-band superconductor. …
We study the effects of longitudinal magnetic field and temperature on the thermodynamic properties of two dimensional Heisenberg antiferromagnet on the honeycomb lattice in the presence of anisotropic Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction and next nearest neighbor coupling exchange constant. In particular, the temperature dependence of specific heat have been investigated for various physical parameters in the model Hamiltonian. Using a hard core bosonic representation, the behavior of thermodynamic properties has been studied by means of excitation spectrum of mapped bosonic gas. The effect of D…
Recently, a SU(4) $π$-flux Hubbard model on the honeycomb lattice has been proposed to study the spin-orbit excitations of $α$-ZrCl$_3$ [Phys.~Rev.~Lett. 121.097201~(2017)]. Based on this model with a zigzag edge, we show the edge defects can induce edge flat bands that result in a SU(4) edge ferromagnetism. We develop an effective one-dimensional interaction Hamiltonian to study the corresponding SU(4) spin excitations. Remarkably, SU(4) spin excitations of the edge ferromagnet appear as a continuum covering the entire energy region rather than usual magnons. Through further entanglement entr…
We have theoretically studied the spin structure factors of Heisenberg model on honeycomb lattice in the presence of longitudinal magnetic field, i.e. magnetic field perpendicular to the honeycomb plane, and Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction. The possible effects of next nearest neighbor exchange constant are investigated in terms of anisotropy in the Heisenberg interactions. This spatial anisotropy is due to the difference between nearest neighbor exchange coupling constant and next nearest neighbor exchange coupling constant. The original spin model hamiltonian is mapped to a bosonic model v…
We study the quantum phases and phase transitions of the Kane-Mele Hubbard (KMH) model on a zigzag ribbon of honeycomb lattice at a finite size via the weak-coupling renormalization group (RG) approach. In the non-interacting limit, the KM model is known to support topological edge states where electrons show helical property with orientations of the spin and momentum being locked. The effective inter-edge hopping terms are generated due to finite-size effect. In the presence of an on-site Coulomb repulsive interaction and the inter-edge hoppings, special focus is put on the stability of the t…
We analyze the biquadratic bilinear Heisenberg magnet on a honeycomb lattice via Schwinger boson formalism. Due to their vulnerability to quantum fluctuations, non conventional lattices (kagome, triangular and honeycomb for example) have been cited as candidates to support spin liquid states. Such states without long range order at zero temperature are known in one-dimensional spin models but their existence in higher dimensional systems is still under debate. Biquadratic interaction is responsible for various possibilities and phases as it is well-founded for one-dimensional systems. Here we …
We introduce a numerical method for identifying topological order in two-dimensional models based on one-dimensional bulk operators. The idea is to identify approximate symmetries supported on thin strips through the bulk that behave as string operators associated to an anyon model. We can express these ribbon operators in matrix product form and define a cost function that allows us to efficiently optimize over this ansatz class. We test this method on spin models with abelian topological order by finding ribbon operators for $\mathbb{Z}_d$ quantum double models with local fields and Ising-li…
This paper presents a connection between the topological properties of hardcore bosons and that of magnons in quantum spin magnets. We utilize the Haldane-like hardcore bosons on the honeycomb lattice as an example. We show that this system maps to a spin-$1/2$ quantum XY model with a next-nearest-neighbour Dzyaloshinsky-Moriya interaction. We obtain the magnon excitations of the quantum spin model and compute the edge states, Berry curvature, thermal and spin Nernst conductivities. Due to the mapping from spin variables to bosons, the hardcore bosons possess the same nontrivial topological pr…
We study numerically a bosonic analog of the Kitaev honeycomb model, which is a minimal model for $4d^4/5d^4$ quantum magnets with honeycomb lattice geometry. We construct its phase diagram by a combination of Landau theory analysis and quantum Monte Carlo simulations. In particular, we show that the phase boundaries between the paramagnetic state and magnetically ordered states are generically fluctuation-induced first order phase transitions. Our results are potentially applicable to Ru$^{4+}$- and Ir$^{5+}$-based honeycomb magnets.
In two dimensional honeycomb ferromagnets, bosonic magnon quasiparticles (spin waves) may either behave as massless Dirac fermions or form topologically protected edge states. The key ingredient defining their nature is the next-nearest neighbor Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya (DM) interaction that breaks the inversion symmetry of the lattice and discriminates chirality of the associated spin-wave excitations. Using inelastic neutron scattering, we find that spin waves of the insulating honeycomb ferromagnet CrI$_3$ ($T_C=61$ K) have two distinctive bands of ferromagnetic excitations separated by a $\si…
We study the frustrated Heisenberg model on the bilayer honeycomb lattice. The ground-state energy and spin gap are calculated, using different bosonic representations at mean field level and numerical calculations, to explore different sectors of the phase diagram. In particular we make use of a bond operator formalism and series expansion calculations to study the extent of dimer inter-layer phase. On the other hand we use the Schwinger boson method and exact diagonalization on small systems to analyze the evolution of on-layer phases. In this case we specifically observe a phase that presen…
The topological properties of massive and massless fermionic quasiparticles have been intensively investigated over the past decade in topological materials without magnetism. Recently, the bosonic analogs of such quasiparticles arising from spin waves have been reported in the two-dimensional (2D) honeycomb lattice ferromagnet/antiferromagnet and the 3D antiferromagnet. Here we use time-of-flight inelastic neutron scattering to study spin waves of the S = 1 honeycomb lattice antiferromagnet BaNi2(AsO4)2, which has a zig-zag antiferromagnetic (AF) ground state identical to that of the Kitaev q…
We study the phase diagram of the frustrated XY model on the honeycomb lattice by using accurate correlated wave functions and variational Monte Carlo simulations. Our results suggest that a spin-liquid state is energetically favorable in the region of intermediate frustration, intervening between two magnetically ordered phases. The latter ones are represented by classically ordered states supplemented with a long-range Jastrow factor, which includes relevant correlations and dramatically improves the description provided by the purely classical solution of the model. The construction of the …
We study the Anderson disordered Hubbard model on the honeycomb lattice. The Hubbard term is han- dled with strong-coupling perturbation theory which encodes the Mott transition physics into a rich dynamical structure of a local self-energy. The local nature of self-energy allows us to combine it with kernel polynomial method and transfer matrix methods. The locality of self-energy combined with the analytic nature of the strong- coupling perturbation theory enables us to study lattices with millions of sites. The transfer matrix method in the ribbon geometry is essentially free from finite si…
We study a bosonic model with correlated hopping on a honeycomb lattice, and show that its ground state is a bosonic integer quantum Hall (BIQH) phase, a prominent example of a symmetry protected topological (SPT) phase. By using the infinite density matrix renormalization group method, we establish the existence of the BIQH phase by providing clear numerical evidence: (i) a quantized Hall conductance with $|σ_{xy}|= 2$ (ii) two counter propagating gapless edge modes. Our simple model is an example of a novel class of systems that can stabilize SPT phases protected by a continuous symmetry on …
Symmetry protected topological (SPT) phases in free fermion and interacting bosonic systems have been classified, but the physical phenomena of interacting fermionic SPT phases have not been fully explored. Here, employing large-scale quantum Monte Carlo simulation, we investigate the edge physics of a bilayer Kane-Mele-Hubbard model with zigzag ribbon geometry. Our unbiased numerical results show that the fermion edge modes are gapped out by interaction, while the bosonic edge modes remain gapless at the $(1+1)d$ boundary, before the bulk quantum phase transition to a topologically trivial ph…
Using Cluster Perturbation Theory we calculate Green's functions, quasi-particle energies and topological invariants for interacting electrons on a 2-D honeycomb lattice, with intrinsic spin-orbit coupling and on-site e-e interaction. This allows to define the parameter range (Hubbard U vs spin-orbit coupling) where the 2D system behaves as a trivial insulator or Quantum Spin Hall insulator. This behavior is confirmed by the existence of gapless quasi-particle states in honeycomb ribbons. We have discussed the importance of the cluster symmetry and the effects of the lack of full translation s…
Quantum Monte Carlo (QMC) simulation has uncovered nonzero Berry curvature and bosonic edge states in hardcore-Bose-Hubbard model on the gapped honeycomb lattice. The competition between the chemical potential and staggered onsite potential leads to an interesting quantum phase diagram comprising superfluid phase, Mott insulator, and charge density wave insulator. In this paper, we present a semiclassical perspective of this system by mapping to a spin-$1/2$ quantum XY model. We give an explicit analytical origin of the quantum phase diagram, the Berry curvatures, and the edge states using sem…
The discovery of massless Dirac electrons in graphene and topological Dirac-Weyl materials has prompted a broad search for bosonic analogues of such Dirac particles. Recent experiments have found evidence for Dirac magnons above an Ising-like ferromagnetic ground state in a two-dimensional (2D) kagome lattice magnet and in the van der Waals layered honeycomb crystal CrI$_3$, and in a 3D Heisenberg magnet Cu$_3$TeO$_6$. Here we report on our inelastic neutron scattering investigation on large single crystals of a stacked honeycomb lattice magnet CoTiO$_3$, which is part of a broad family of ilm…
We consider fermions on a honeycomb lattice supplemented by a spin invariant interaction that dynamically generates a quantum spin Hall insulator. This lattice model provides an instance of Gross-Neveu Heisenberg criticality, as realized for example by the Hubbard model on the honeycomb lattice. Using auxiliary field quantum Monte Carlo simulations we show that we can compute with unprecedented precision susceptibilities of the order parameter. In O(N) Gross-Neveu transitions, the anomalous dimension of the bosonic mode grows as a function of N such that in the large-N limit it is of particula…
The deconfined quantum critical point, a prototype Landau-forbidden transition, could exist in principle in the phase transitions involving symmetry protected topological phase, however, examples of such kinds of transition in physical systems are rare beyond one-dimensional systems. Here, using density-matrix renormalization group calculation, we unveil a bosonic integer quantum Hall phase in two-dimensional correlated honeycomb lattice, by full identification of its internal structure from the topological $\mathbf{K}$ matrix. Moreover we demonstrate that imbalanced periodic chemical potentia…
We analyze the possibility of emergent quantum multicritical points (MCPs) with enlarged chiral symmetry, when strongly interacting gapless Dirac fermions acquire comparable propensity toward the nucleation of Kekulé valence-bond solid (KVBS) and charge-density-wave ($N_b=1$) or $s$-wave pairing ($N_b=2$) or anti-ferromagnet ($N_b=3$) in honeycomb lattice, where $N_b$ counts the number of bosonic order parameter components. Besides the cubic terms present in the order parameter description of KVBS due to the breaking of a discrete $Z_3$ symmetry, quantum fluctuations generate new cubic vertice…
Search for higher-order topological insulators, characterized by topologically protected gapless boundary states of codimension higher than one, in bosonic systems has attracted growing interest. Here, we establish twisted bilayer honeycomb magnets as a new platform for hosting second-order topological magnon insulators (SOTMIs) without fine-tuning. We employ a simple, minimal Heisenberg spin model to describe misaligned bilayer sheets of honeycomb ferromagnetic magnets with a large commensurate twist angle. We found that the higher-order topology in this bilayer system shows a significant dep…
The impact of local and nonlocal density-density interactions on the electronic instabilities in the honeycomb lattice is widely investigated. Some early studies proposed the emergence of interaction-induced topologically nontrivial phases, but recently, it was denied in several works including renormalization group calculations with refined momentum resolution. We use the truncated unity functional renormalization group to study the many-body instabilities of electrons on the half-filled honeycomb lattice, focusing on the effect of the exchange interaction. We show that varying the next-neare…
We investigate a model of hard-core bosons with correlated hopping on the honeycomb lattice in an external magnetic field by means of a coupled-wire approach. It has been numerically shown that this model exhibits at half filling the bosonic integer quantum Hall (BIQH) state, which is a symmetry-protected topological phase protected by the $U(1)$ particle conservation [Y.-C. He et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 115, 116803 (2015)]. By combining the bosonization approach and a coupled-wire construction, we analytically confirm this finding and show that it even holds in the strongly anisotropic (quasi-o…
We examine the presence and evolution of magnetic Dirac nodes in the Heisenberg honeycomb lattice. Using linear spin theory, we evaluate the collinear phase diagram as well as the change in the spin dynamics with various exchange interactions. We show that the ferromagnetic structure produces bosonic Dirac and Weyl points due to the competition between superexchange interactions. Furthermore, it is shown that the criteria for magnetic Dirac nodes are coupled to the magnetic structure and not the overall crystal symmetry, where the breaking of inversion symmetry greatly affects the antiferromag…
Recently, the frustrated XY model for spins-1/2 on the honeycomb lattice has attracted a lot of attention in relation with the possibility to realize a chiral spin liquid state. This model is relevant to the physics of some quantum magnets. Using the flexibility of ultra-cold atoms setups, we propose an alternative way to realize this model through the Mott regime of the bosonic Kane-Mele-Hubbard model. The phase diagram of this model is derived using the bosonic dynamical mean-field theory. Focussing on the Mott phase, we investigate its magnetic properties as a function of frustration. We do…
In topological mechanics, the identification of a mechanical system's rigidity matrix with an electronic tight-binding model allows to infer topological properties of the mechanical system, such as the occurrence of `floppy' boundary modes, from the associated electronic band structure. Here we introduce an approach to systematically construct topological mechanical systems by an exact supersymmetry (SUSY) that relates the bosonic (mechanical) and fermionic (e.g. electronic) degrees of freedom. As examples we discuss mechanical analogues of the Kitaev honeycomb model and of a second-order topo…
With the advancement in synthesizing and analyzing Kitaev materials, the Kitaev-Heisenberg model on the honeycomb lattice has attracted a lot of attention in the last few years. Several variations, which include additional anisotropic interactions as well as response to external magnetic field, have been investigated and many exotic ordered phases have been discussed. On the other hand, quantum spin systems are proving to be a fertile ground to realize and study bosonic analogues of fermionic topological states of matter. Using the spin-wave theory we show that the ferromagnetic phase of the e…
We theoretically study a spin Hamiltonian for spin-orbit-coupled ferromagnets on the honeycomb lattice. We find that the effective Hamiltonian for magnons, a quanta of spin-wave excitations from ordered states, is equivalent to the Haldane model for electrons in the honeycomb lattice, which indicates the nontrivial topology of the magnon bands and the existence of the associated edge state. We also take the Schwinger boson (or bosonic spinon) representations of spins that are applicable both to ordered and disordered phases. We show that the spinon bands within the mean-field treatment are top…
Doubled topological phases introduced by Kitaev, Levin and Wen supported on two dimensional lattices are Hamiltonian versions of three dimensional topological quantum field theories described by the Turaev-Viro state sum models. We introduce the latter with an emphasis on obtaining them from theories in the continuum. Equivalence of the previous models in the ground state are shown in case of the honeycomb lattice and the gauge group being a finite group by means of the well-known duality transformation between the group algebra and the spin network basis of lattice gauge theory. An analysis o…
We investigate both the longitudinal thermal conductivity ($κ_{xx}$) and the planar thermal Hall conductivity ($κ_{xy}$) in the Kitaev spin liquid candidate of Co-based honeycomb antiferromagnet Na$_2$Co$_2$TeO$_6$ in a magnetic field ($B$) applied along the $a$ and $a^*$ axes. A finite $κ_{xy}$ is resolved for both field directions in the antiferromagnetic (AFM) phase below the Néel temperature of 27 K. The temperature dependence of $κ_{xy}/T$ shows the emergence of topological bosonic excitations. In addition, the field dependence of $κ_{xy}$ shows sign reversals at the critical fields in th…
We study the superconductor-insulator transition (SIT) in the ground state of the attractive honeycomb Hubbard model in the presence of a staggered potential (a mass term), using a combination of unbiased computational methods, namely, exact diagonalization and quantum Monte Carlo simulations. We probe the nature of the lowest-energy charge excitations across the SIT and show that they are bosonic, as inferred (and shown in the strongly interacting regime) in a previous study of the same model in the square lattice. Increasing the strength of the staggered potential leads to a crossover in whi…
An interacting bosonic model of Kitaev type is proposed on the three-dimensional diamond lattice. Similarly to the two-dimensional Kitaev model on the honeycomb lattice which exhibits both Abelian and non-Abelian phases, the model has two (``weak'' and ``strong'' pairing) phases. In the weak pairing phase, the auxiliary Majorana hopping problem is in a topological superconducting phase characterized by a non-zero winding number introduced in A. P. Schnyder, S. Ryu, A. Furusaki, and A. W. W. Ludwig, arXiv:0803.2786. The topological character of the weak pairing phase is protected by a discrete …

We theoretically address spin chain analogs of the Kitaev quantum spin model on the honeycomb lattice. The emergent quantum spin liquid phases or Anderson resonating valence bond (RVB) states can be understood, as an effective model, in terms of p-wave superconductivity and Majorana fermions. We derive a generalized phase diagram for the two-leg ladder system with tunable interaction strengths between chains allowing us to vary the shape of the lattice (from square to honeycomb ribbon or brickwall ladder). We evaluate the winding number associated with possible emergent (topological) gapless m…
Recently significant progress has been made in $(2+1)$-dimensional conformal field theories without supersymmetry. In particular, it was realized that different Lagrangians may be related by hidden dualities, i.e., seemingly different field theories may actually be identical in the infrared limit. Among all the proposed dualities, one has attracted particular interest in the field of strongly-correlated quantum-matter systems: the one relating the easy-plane noncompact CP$^1$ model (NCCP$^1$) and noncompact quantum electrodynamics (QED) with two flavors ($N = 2$) of massless two-component Dira…
The realization of synthetic gauge fields has attracted a lot of attention recently in relation with periodically driven systems and the Floquet theory. In ultra-cold atom systems in optical lattices and photonic networks, this allows to simulate exotic phases of matter such as quantum Hall phases, anomalous quantum Hall phases and analogs of topological insulators. In this paper, we apply the Floquet theory to engineer anisotropic Haldane models on the honeycomb lattice and two-leg ladder systems. We show that these anisotropic Haldane models still possess a topologically non-trivial band str…
We introduce a construction of symmetry-enriched topological orders on bipartite lattices in which two $\mathbb{Z}_2$ spin liquids defined on each sublattice are combined, and then anyons are condensed to reduce the topological order. By choosing different anyon condensate structures, one can vary the fractionalization pattern of the resulting spin liquid, some of which cannot be readily constructed from parton based approaches. We demonstrate the construction for $i$) a spin-1/2 honeycomb lattice where we construct a featureless state as well as intermediate states with topological order, $ii…
Dimer models have long been a fruitful playground for understanding topological physics. Here we introduce a new class - termed Majorana-dimer models - wherein bosonic dimers are decorated with pairs of Majorana modes. We find that the simplest examples of such systems realize an intriguing, intrinsically fermionic phase of matter that can be viewed as the product of a chiral Ising theory, which hosts deconfined non-Abelian quasiparticles, and a topological $p_x - ip_y$ superconductor. While the bulk anyons are described by a single copy of the Ising theory, the edge remains fully gapped. Cons…
