Let $X$ be a variety with an action by an algebraic group $G$. In this paper we discuss various properties of $G$-equivariant $D$-modules on $X$, such as the decompositions of their global sections as representations of $G$ (when $G$ is reductive), and descriptions of the categories that they form. When $G$ acts on $X$ with finitely many orbits, the category of equivariant $D$-modules is isomorphic to the category of finite-dimensional representations of a finite quiver with relations. We describe explicitly these categories for irreducible $G$-modules $X$ that are spherical varieties, and show that in such cases the quivers are almost always representation-finite (i.e. with finitely many indecomposable representations).
In this article, we investigate the category $\mathcal{A}^G$ of equivariant objects of an additive category $\mathcal{A}$ with respect to an action of a finite group $G$. We show that if $G$ is solvable then we can reconstruct $\mathcal{A}$ from $\mathcal{A}^G$ via a finite sequence of equivariantization. We also consider the possibility of a triangulated structure on $\mathcal{A}^G$ canonical in certain sense when $\mathcal{A}$ is triangulated and give several instances in which $\mathcal{A}^G$ is indeed canonically triangulated.
We investigate equivalences between the categories of perfects complexes of the quotients of two smooth projective schemes by the action of a finite group. As a result we give a necessary and sufficient condition for an equivalence between the equivariant derived categories to descend to the categories of perfect complexes.
We investigate conditions for a Fourier-Mukai transform between derived categories of coherent sheaves on smooth projective stacks endowed with actions by finite groups to lift to the associated equivariant derived categories. As an application we give a condition under which a global quotient stack cannot be derived equivalent to a variety. We also apply our techniques to generalised Kummer stacks and symmetric quotients.
We give a description of certain categories of equivariant coherent sheaves on Grothendieck's resolution in terms of the categorical affine Hecke algebra of Soergel. As an application, we deduce a relationship of these coherent sheaf categories to the categories of perverse sheaves considered in the work of Bezrukavnikov-Yun, generalizing results of Arkhipov-Bezrukavnikov. In addition, we deduce that the weak braid group action on sheaves of Riche and Bezrukavnikov-Riche can be upgraded to a strict braid group action.
We consider the space X = Sym^3(C^2) of binary cubic forms, equipped with the natural action of the group GL_2 of invertible linear transformations of C^2. We describe explicitly the category of GL_2-equivariant coherent D_X-modules as the category of representations of a quiver with relations. We show moreover that this quiver is of tame representation type and we classify its indecomposable representations. We also give a construction of the simple equivariant D_X-modules (of which there are 14), and give formulas for the characters of their underlying GL_2-representations. We conclude the a…
Let V be the space of 2x2x2 complex hypermatrices, endowed with the natural group action of GL=GL(2,C)^3. The category of GL-equivariant coherent D-modules on V is equivalent to the category of representations of a quiver with relations. In this article, we give a construction of each simple object and study their GL-equivariant structure. Using this information, we go on to explicitly describe the corresponding quiver with relations. As an application, we compute all iterations of local cohomology with support in the orbit closures of V.
Given a smooth variety $X$ with an action of a finite group $G$, and a semiorthogonal decomposition of the derived category, $\mathcal{D}([X/G])$, of $G$-equivariant coherent sheaves on $X$ into subcategories equivalent to derived categories of smooth varieties, we construct a similar semiorthogonal decomposition for a smooth $G$-invariant divisor in $X$ (under certain technical assumptions). Combining this procedure with the semiorthogonal decompositions constructed in [PV15], we construct semiorthogonal decompositions of some equivariant derived categories of smooth projective varieties.
We introduce the notion of (homological) G-smoothness for a complex G-variety X, where G is a connected affine algebraic group. This is based on the notion of smoothness for dg algebras and uses a suitable enhancement of the G-equivariant derived category of X. If there are only finitely many G-orbits and all stabilizers are connected, we show that X is G-smooth if and only if all orbits O satisfy H^*(O; R)=R. On the way we prove several results concerning smoothness of dg categories over a graded commutative dg ring.
Let X be the third exterior power of a six-dimensional complex vector space, equipped with the natural action of the group GL_6(C) of invertible linear transformations of C^6. We describe explicitly the category of GL_6(C)-equivariant coherent D_X-modules as the category of representations of a quiver with relations, which has finite representation type. We give a construction of the six simple equivariant D_X-modules and give formulas for the characters of their underlying GL_6(C)-structures. We describe the (iterated) local cohomology groups with supports given by orbit closures, determining…
Let X be a scheme, and let G be an affine group scheme acting on X. Under reasonable hypotheses on X and G, we construct a t-structure on the derived category of G-equivariant coherent sheaves that in many ways resembles the perverse coherent t-structure, but which incorporates additional information from the G-action. Under certain circumstances, this t-structure, called the "staggered t-structure," has an artinian heart, and its simple objects are particularly easy to describe. We also exhibit two small examples in which the staggered t-structure is better-behaved than the perverse coherent …
We study the equivariant category associated to a finite group action on the derived category of coherent sheaves of a smooth projective variety. We discuss decompositions of the equivariant category and faithful actions, prove the existence of a Serre functor, give a criterion for the equivariant category to be Calabi--Yau, and describe an obstruction for a subgroup of the group of auto-equivalences to act. As application we show that the equivariant category of any symplectic action on the derived category of an elliptic curve is equivalent to the derived category of an elliptic curve.
We study the bounded derived categories of torus-equivariant coherent sheaves on smooth toric varieties and Deligne-Mumford stacks. We construct and describe full exceptional collections in these categories. We also observe that these categories depend only on the PL homeomorphism type of the corresponding simplicial complex.
We consider categories of equivariant mixed Tate motives, where equivariant is understood in the sense of Borel. We give the two usual definitions of equivariant motives, via the simplicial Borel construction and via algebraic approximations of it. The definitions turn out to be equivalent and give rise to a full six-functor formalism. For rational étale motives over a finite field or the homotopical stable algebraic derivator arising from the semisimplified Hodge realization, the equivariant mixed Tate motives provide a graded version of the equivariant derived category. We show that, in suff…
Consider a finite group $G$ acting on a triangulated category $\mathcal T$. In this paper we investigate triangulated structure on the category $\mathcal T^G$ of $G$-equivariant objects in $\mathcal T$. We prove (under some technical conditions) that such structure exists. Supposed that an action on $\mathcal T$ is induced by a DG-action on some DG-enhancement of $\mathcal T$, we construct a DG-enhancement of $\mathcal T^G$. Also, we show that the relation "to be an equivariant category with respect to a finite abelian group action" is symmetric on idempotent complete additive categories.
Twisted commutative algebras (tca's) have played an important role in the nascent field of representation stability. Let A_d be the complex tca freely generated by d indeterminates of degree 1. In a previous paper, we determined the structure of the category of A_1-modules (which is equivalent to the category of FI-modules). In this paper, we establish analogous results for the category of A_d-modules, for any d. Modules over A_d are closely related to the structures used by the authors in previous works studying syzygies of Segre and Veronese embeddings, and we hope the results of this paper …
We introduce and study various categories of (equivariant) motives of (versal) flag varieties. We relate these categories with certain categories of parabolic (Demazure) modules. We show that the motivic decomposition type of a versal flag variety depends on the direct sum decomposition type of the parabolic module. To do this we use localization techniques of Kostant-Kumar in the context of generalized oriented cohomology as well as the Rost nilpotence principle for algebraic cobordism and its generic version. As an application, we obtain new proofs and examples of indecomposable Chow motives…
The first part of these notes is devoted to an introduction to algebraic $D$-modules. Several basic notions are introduced. In the second part, $D$-modules with group action are treated. Several important examples in this situation are discussed in details. Particularly, the Harish-Chandra systems for group characters and the Gelfand generalized hypergeometric systems are our main topics.
Let X be an algebraic variety with an action of an algebraic group G. Suppose X has a full exceptional collection of sheaves, and these sheaves are invariant under the action of the group. We construct a semiorthogonal decomposition of bounded derived category of G-equivariant coherent sheaves on X into components, equivalent to derived categories of twisted representations of the group. If the group is finite or reductive over the algebraically closed field of zero characteristic, this gives a full exceptional collection in the derived equivariant category. We apply our results to particular …
In this thesis we study two main topics which culminate in a proof that four distinct definitions of the equivariant derived category of a smooth algebraic group $G$ acting on a variety $X$ are in fact equivalent. In the first part of this thesis we introduce and study equivariant categories on a quasi-projective variety $X$. These are a generalization of the equivariant derived category of Lusztig and are indexed by certain pseudofunctors that take values in the 2-category of categories. This 2-categorical generalization allow us to prove rigorously and carefully when such categories are addi…
We show that equivariant tilting modules over equivariant algebras induce equivalences of derived factorization categories. As an application, we show that the derived category of a noncommutative resolution of a linear section of a Pfaffian variety is equivalent to the derived factorization category of a noncommutative gauged Landau-Ginzburg model $(Λ,χ, w)^{\mathbb{G}_m}$, where $Λ$ is a noncommutative resolution of the quotient singularity $W/\operatorname{GSp}(Q)$ arising from a certain representation $W$ of the symplectic similitude group $\operatorname{GSp}(Q)$ of a symplectic vector spa…
In the paper we answer the following question: for a morphism of varieties (or, more generally, stacks), when the derived category of the base can be recovered from the derived category of the covering variety by means of descent theory? As a corollary, we show that for an action of a reductive group on a scheme, the derived category of equivariant sheaves is equivalent to the category of objects, equipped with an action of the group, in the ordinary derived category.
We consider the bounded derived category of $S_k$-equivariant coherent sheaves on $(\mathbb{P}^n)^k$. The goal of this paper is to construct in this category a rectangular Lefschetz exceptional collection when this is possible, or a minimal Lefschetz exceptional collection when a rectangular one does not exist. The main results of the paper include the construction of a rectangular Lefschetz exceptional collection in the case $k=3$ and in the case $n=1$ when $\mathrm{gcd}(n+1,k)=1$. We also construct minimal Lefschetz exceptional collection for $n=1$ and even $k$, and for $n=2$ and $k=3$.
We study the topological K-theory spectrum of the dg singularity category associated to a weighted projective complete intersection. We calculate the topological K-theory of the dg singularity category of a weighted projective hypersurface in terms of its Milnor fiber and monodromy operator, and, as an application, we obtain a lift of the Atiyah-Bott-Shapiro construction to the level of spectra.
Given an action of a finite group $G$ on the derived category of a smooth projective variety $X$ we relate the fixed loci of the induced $G$-action on moduli spaces of stable objects in $D^b(\mathrm{Coh}(X))$ with moduli spaces of stable objects in the equivariant category $D^b(\mathrm{Coh}(X))_G$. As an application we obtain a criterion for the equivariant category of a symplectic action on the derived category of a symplectic surface to be equivalent to the derived category of a surface. This generalizes the derived McKay correspondence, and yields a general framework for describing fixed lo…
We compute the characters of the simple GL-equivariant holonomic D-modules on the vector spaces of general, symmetric and skew-symmetric matrices. We realize some of these D-modules explicitly as subquotients in the pole order filtration associated to the determinant/Pfaffian of a generic matrix, and others as local cohomology modules. We give a direct proof of a conjecture of Levasseur in the case of general and skew-symmetric matrices, and provide counterexamples in the case of symmetric matrices. The character calculations are used in subsequent work with Weyman to describe the D-module com…
We prove a formula of the equivariant infinity-adic special L-values of abelian t-modules. This gives function field analogues of the equivariant class number formula. As an application, we calculate the special values of Artin L-functions for Galois representations.
We consider the derived category of coherent sheaves on a complex vector space equivariant with respect to an action of a finite reflection group G. In some cases, including Weyl groups of type A, B, G_2, F_4, as well as the groups G(m,1,n), we construct a semiorthogonal decomposition of this category, indexed by the conjugacy classes of G. The pieces of this decompositions are equivalent to the derived categories of coherent sheaves on the quotient-spaces V^g/C(g), where C(g) is the centralizer subgroup of g in G. In the case of the Weyl groups the construction uses some key results about the…
For d > 1, we consider the Veronese map of degree d on a complex vector space W , Ver_d : W -> Sym^d W , w -> w^d , and denote its image by Z. We describe the characters of the simple GL(W)-equivariant holonomic D-modules supported on Z. In the case when d is 2, we obtain a counterexample to a conjecture of Levasseur by exhibiting a GL(W)-equivariant D-module on the Capelli type representation Sym^2 W which contains no SL(W)-invariant sections. We also study the local cohomology modules H_Z^j(S), where S is the ring of polynomial functions on the vector space Sym^d W. We recover a result of Og…
We formalize, at the level of D-modules, the notion that A-hypergeometric systems are equivariant versions of the classical hypergeometric equations. For this purpose, we construct a functor on a suitable category of torus equivariant D-modules and show that it preserves key properties, such as holonomicity, regularity, and reducibility of monodromy representation. We also examine its effect on solutions, characteristic varieties, and singular loci. When applied to certain binomial D-modules, our functor produces saturations of the classical hypergeometric differential equations, a fact that s…
We describe categories of equivariant vector bundles on certain toroidal spherical varieties in linear algebra terms: vector spaces equipped with filtrations, group and Lie algebra actions, and linear maps preserving these structures.
Suppose $f,g$ are homogeneous polynomials of degree $d$ defining smooth hypersurfaces $X_f = V(f)\subset \mathbb{P}^{m-1}$ and $X_g = V(g)\subset\mathbb{P}^{n-1}$. Then the sum $f(x)+g(y)$ defines a smooth hypersurface $X=V(f(x)+g(y))\subset\mathbb{P}^{m+n-1}$ with an action of $μ_d$ scaling the $g$ variables. Motivated by the work of Orlov, we construct a semi-orthogonal decomposition of the derived category of coherent sheaves on $[X/μ_d]$ provided $d\geq \mathrm{max}\{m,n\}$.
Let $G$ be a finite subgroup in SU(2), and $Q$ the corresponding affine Dynkin diagram. In this paper, we review the relation between the categories of $G$-equivariant sheaves on $P^1$ and $Rep Q_h$, where $h$ is an orientation of $Q$, constructing an explicit equivalence of corresponding derived categories.
We investigate compact projective generators in the category of equivariant $D$-modules on a smooth affine variety. For a reductive group $G$ acting on a smooth affine variety $X$, there is a natural countable set of compact projective generators indexed by finite dimensional representations of $G$. We show that only finitely many of these objects are required to generate; thus the category has a single compact projective generator. The proof in the general case goes via an analogous statement about compact generators in the equivariant derived category, which holds in much greater generality …
We determine, under a certain assumption, the Alexeev-Brion moduli scheme M_S of affine spherical G-varieties with a prescribed weight monoid S. In [ arXiv:1008.0911 ] we showed that if G is a connected complex reductive group of type A and S is the weight monoid of a spherical G-module, then M_S is an affine space. Here we prove that this remains true without any restriction on the type of G.
We discuss the Hochschild cohomology of the category of D-modules associated to an algebraic stack. In particular we describe the Hochschild cohomology of the category of torus-equivariant D-modules as the cohomology of a D-module on the loop space of the quotient stack. Finally, we give an approach for understanding the Hochschild cohomology of D-modules on general stacks via a relative compactification of the diagonal. This work is motivated by a desire to understand the support theory (in the sense of Benson-Iyengar-Krause) of D-modules on stacks.
We formulate a version of Beck's monadicity theorem for abelian categories, which is applied to the equivariantization of abelian categories with respect to a finite group action. We prove that the equivariantization is compatible with the construction of quotient abelian categories by Serre subcategories. We prove that the equivariantization of the graded module category over a graded ring is equivalent to the graded module category over the same ring but with a different grading. We deduce from these results two equivalences between the category of (equivariant) coherent sheaves on a weighte…
The objective of this paper is to clarify the relationships between the quantum D-module and equivariant Floer theory. Equivariant Floer theory was introduced by Givental in his paper ``Homological Geometry''. He conjectured that the quantum D-module of a symplectic manifold is isomorphic to the equivariant Floer cohomology for the universal cover of the free loop space. First, motivated by the work of Guest, we formulate the notion of ``abstract quantum D-module''which generalizes the D-module defined by the small quantum cohomology algebra. Second, we define the equivariant Floer cohomology …
Let $\text{X}$ denote a projective variety over an algebraically closed field on which a linear algebraic group acts with finitely many orbits. Then, a conjecture of Soergel and Lunts in the setting of Koszul duality and Langlands' philosophy, postulates that the equivariant derived category of bounded complexes with constructible equivariant cohomology sheaves on $\text{X}$ is equivalent to a full subcategory of the derived category of modules over a graded ring defined as a suitable graded $Ext$. Only special cases of this conjecture have been proven so far. {\it The purpose of this paper is…
In Part II, we saw how genus-0 permutation-equivariant quantum K-theory of a manifold with isolated fixed points of a torus action can be reduced via fixed point localization to permutation-equivariant quantum K-theory of the point. In Part III, we gave a complete description of genus-0 permutation-equivariant quantum K-theory of the point by means of adelic characterization. Here we apply the adelic characterization to introduce the action on this theory of a certain group of $q$-difference operators. This action will enable us to prove that toric $q$-hypergeometric functions represent K-theo…
We introduce crossingless sheaves in certain equivariant derived categories which are analogous to the Bezrukavnikov-Mirkovic exotic sheaves for two-block nilpotents. We calculate the classes of crossingless sheaves in equivariant K-theory of Cautis-Kamnitzer varieties.
We leverage the results of the prequel in combination with a theorem of D. Orlov to yield some results in Hodge theory of derived categories of factorizations and derived categories of coherent sheaves on varieties. In particular, we provide a conjectural geometric framework to further understand M. Kontsevich's Homological Mirror Symmetry conjecture. We obtain new cases of a conjecture of Orlov concerning the Rouquier dimension of the bounded derived category of coherent sheaves on a smooth variety. Further, we introduce actions of $A$-graded commutative rings on triangulated categories and t…
We prove two kinds of $\mathbb{Z}/2$-periodic Koszul duality equivalences for triangulated categories of matrix factorizations associated with $(-1)$-shifted cotangents over quasi-smooth affine derived schemes. We use this result to define $\mathbb{Z}/2$-periodic version of Donaldson-Thomas categories for local surfaces, whose $\mathbb{C}^{\ast}$-equivariant version was introduced and developed in the author's previous paper. We compare $\mathbb{Z}/2$-periodic DT category with the $\mathbb{C}^{\ast}$-equivariant one, and deduce wall-crossing equivalences of $\mathbb{Z}/2$-periodic DT categorie…
This dissertation comprises three collections of results, all united by a common theme. The theme is the study of categories via algebraic techniques, considering categories themselves as algebraic objects. This algebraic approach to category theory is central to noncommutative algebraic geometry, as realized by recent advances in the study of noncommutative motives. We have success proving algebraic results in the general setting of symmetric monoidal and semiring $\infty$-categories, which categorify abelian groups and rings, respectively. For example, we prove that modules over the semiring…
We develope $\mathbb{C}^{\ast}$-equivariant categorical Donaldson-Thomas theory for local surfaces, i.e. the total spaces of canonical line bundles on smooth projective surfaces. We introduce $\mathbb{C}^{\ast}$-equivariant DT categories for local surfaces as Verdier quotients of derived categories of coherent sheaves on derived moduli stacks of coherent sheaves on surfaces, by subcategories of objects whose singular supports are contained in unstable loci. Via Koszul duality, our construction may be regarded as certain gluing of $\mathbb{C}^{\ast}$-equivariant derived categories of factorizat…
