Traditionally, knot theorists have considered projections of knots where there are two strands meeting at every crossing. A triple crossing is a crossing where three strands meet at a single point, such that each strand bisects the crossing. In this paper we find a relationship between the triple crossing number and the double crossing braid index, namely $β_2(L) \le c_3(L) + 1$. We find an infinite family of knots that achieve equality, which allows us to determine both the double crossing braid index and the triple crossing number of these knots.
Birman-Menasco proved that there are finitely many knots having a given genus and braid index. We give a quantitative version of Birman-Menasco finiteness theorem, an estimate of the crossing number of knots in terms of genus and braid index. This has various applications of crossing numbers, such as, the crossing number of connected sum or satellites.
We show that the triple-crossing number of any knot is greater or equal to twice its (canonical) genus and we show an even stronger bound in the case of links. As an application we show that this bound is strong enough to obtain the triple-crossing numbers of all torus knots, and of many more knots and their connected sums.
Burau representation of the Artin braid group remains as one of the very important representations for the braid group. Partly, because of its connections to the Alexander polynomial which is one of the first and most useful invariants for knots and links. In the present work, we show that interesting representations of braid group could be achieved using a simple and intuitive approach, where we simply analyse the path of strands in a braid and encode the over-crossings, under-crossings or no-crossings into some parameters. More precisely, at each crossing, where, for example, the strand $i$ …

A long standing open conjecture states that if a link $\mathcal{K}$ is alternating, then its ropelength $L(\mathcal{K})$ is at least of the order $O(Cr(\mathcal{K}))$. A recent result shows that the maximum braid index of a link bounds the ropelength of the link from below. Thus in the case an alternating link has a maximum braid index proportional to its minimum crossing number, such as the $T(2,2n)$ torus link, then the ropelength of the link is bounded below by a constant multiple of its minimum crossing number. However if the maximum braid index of a link is small compared to its crossing …
We will strengthen the known upper and lower bounds on the delta-crossing number of knots in therms of the triple-crossing number. The latter bound turns out to be strong enough to obtain (unknown values of) triple-crossing numbers for a few knots. We also prove that we can always find at least one tangle from the set of four tangles, in any triple-crossing projections of any non-trivial knot or non-split link. In the last section, we enumerate and generate tables of minimal delta-diagrams for all prime knots up to the delta-crossing number equal to four. We also give a concise survey about kn…
In this paper we are interested in BB knots, namely knots and links where the bridge index equals the braid index. Supported by observations from experiments, it is conjectured that BB knots possess a special geometric/physical property (and might even be characterized by it): if the knot is realized by a (closed) springy metal wire, then the equilibrium state of the wire is in an almost planar configuration of multiple (overlapping) circles. In this paper we provide a heuristic explanation to the conjecture and explore the plausibility of the conjecture numerically. We also identify BB knots …
Given a knot, we develop methods for finding the braid representative that minimizes the number of simple walks. Such braids lead to an efficient method for computing the colored Jones polynomial of $K$, following an approach developed by Armond and implemented by Hajij and Levitt. We use this method to compute the colored Jones polynomial in closed form for the knots $5_2, 6_1,$ and $7_2$. The set of simple walks can change under reflection, rotation, and cyclic permutation of the braid, and we prove an invariance property which relates the simple walks of a braid to those of its reflection u…
