Nonclassical motional states of matter are of interest both from a fundamental perspective but also for their potential technological applications as resources in various quantum processing tasks such as quantum teleportation, sensing, communication, and computation. In this work we explore the motional effects of a harmonically trapped, excited two-level emitter coupled to a one-dimensional (1D) photonic system. As the emitter decays it experiences a momentum recoil that entangles its motion with the emitted photon pulse. In the long-time limit the emitter relaxes to its electronic ground state, while its reduced motional state remains entangled with the outgoing photon. We find photonic systems where the long-time reduced motional state of the emitter, though mixed, is highly nonclassical and in some cases approaches a pure motional Fock state. Motional recoil engineering can be simpler to experimentally implement than complex measurement and feedback based methods to engineer novel quantum mechanical states of motion.
Characterization of nonclassicality of Gaussian states initially generated in optical spontaneous parametric processes by means of induced stimulated emission
在最近的一篇论文中[I. I. Arkhipov,Phys. Rev.
Optical downconversion is a key resource for generating nonclassical states. Very recently, direct nondegenerate triple-photon spontaneous downconversion (NTPSD) with bright photon triplets and strong third-order correlations has been demonstrated in a superconducting device (2020 Phys. Rev. X 10 011011). Besides, linear and nonlinear tripartite entanglement in this process have also been predicted (2018 Phys. Rev. Lett. 120 043601; 2020 Phys. Rev. Lett. 125 020502). In this paper, we consider the generation of nonclassical optical quantum superpositions and investigate nonlinear quantum steer…
Generation of nonclassical light suitable for interaction with atoms corresponds to a crucial goal pursued across the broad quantum optics community. We present the generation of nonclassical photon pairs using the process of spontaneous four-wave mixing in warm atomic vapor with an unprecedentedly high degree of nonclassical photon correlations. We show how the unique combination of excitation of atoms in the proximity of the vapor cell viewport, single excitation laser beam, double-$Λ$ energy level scheme, auxiliary optical pumping, and particular optical filtering setups, allow for the spec…
We show that a continuous range of nonclassical states of light can be generated using conditional measurements on the idler mode of an optical parametric amplifier. The output state is prepared by introducing a coherent state in the signal mode of the amplifier with a single photon in the idler mode, followed by a conditional measurement of a single photon in the output idler mode. By varying the gain of the amplifier, this approach can produce a coherent state, a photon-added state, a displaced number state, or a continuous range of other nonclassical states with intermediate properties. We …
Nonclassical effects in two-photon interference experiments: event-by-event simulations
结果表明,用两个独立光源\textcolor{black}{, like the Hanbury Brown-Twiss experiment,}的双光子干涉实验预测的可见度${\cal V} = 1/2$和用参量下转换光源\textcolor{black}{, like the Ghosh-Mandel experiment,}的双光子干涉实验预测的可见度${\cal V} = 1$都可以用\textcolor{black}{by a discrete event simulation. This simulation approach reproduces the statistical distributions of wave theory not by requiring the knowledge of the solution of the wave equation of the whole system but by generating detection events one-by-one according to an unknown distribution.}来解释。因此,不需要引用量子理论来解释参量下转换中信号光子和闲频光子干涉中的所谓非经典效应。因此,一个修订的普遍接受的标准的非经典性质的光\textcolor{black}{, ${\cal V} …
We investigate the performance of a certain nonclassicality identifier, expressed via integrated second-order intensity moments of optical fields, in revealing bipartite entanglement of quantum-optical frequency combs (QOFCs), which are generated in both spontaneous and stimulated parametric down-conversion processes. We show that, by utilizing that nonclassicality identifier, one can well identify the entanglement of the QOFC directly from the experimentally measured intensity moments without invoking any state reconstruction techniques or homodyne detection. Moreover, we demonstrate that the…
Beam splitters are routinely used for generating entanglement. Their entangling properties have been studied extensively, with nonclassicality of the input states a prerequisite for entanglement at the output. Here we quantify the amount of entanglement generated by weakly-reflecting beam splitters, and look for nonclassical states that are not entangled by general beam splitters. We find that inputting highly nonclassical combinations of unpolarized states that are squeezed and displaced onto a beam splitter can still yield separable output states. This result is crucial for understanding the…
A possible way of generating nonclassical states of light, especially non-Gaussian states, is via the truncation of a given state in the Fock basis. In recent work, we presented an alternative scheme for such quantum scissors [Phys. Rev. A 104, 033715 (2021)], employing a nondegenerate parametric amplifier, a beam splitter and photodetectors. An advantage of this setup is that it does not require the generation of Fock states beforehand, as in previous proposals. Here we extend this treatment to mixed input states. We show the possibilities of generating truncated states with either a maximum …
Considering the paradigmatic case of a cloud of two-level atoms interacting through common vacuum modes, we show how cooperative spontaneous emission, which is at the origin of superradiance, leads the system to long-lived entangled states at late times. These subradiant modes are characterized by an entanglement between all particles, independently of their geometrical configuration. While there is no threshold on the interaction strength necessary to entangle all particles, stronger interactions lead to longer-lived entanglement.
A scheme for heralded generation of frequency-bin photonic qubits via spontaneous four-wave mixing in a system of coupled microring resonators (photonic molecule) is developed so that the qubit state is fully controlled by the frequency amplitude of the pump field. It is shown that coupling parameters of the photonic molecule can be optimized to provide generation of nearly pure heralded photons. The heralded qubit state does not depend on the microring resonator mode frequency, thereby allowing to take advantage of frequency multiplexing for improving efficiency of quantum information process…
Nonclassical photon sources of high brightness are key components of quantum communication technologies. We here demonstrate the generation of narrowband, nonclassical photon pairs by employing spontaneous four-wave mixing in an optically-dense ensemble of cold atoms within a hollow-core fiber. The brightness of our source approaches the limit of achievable generated spectral brightness at which successive photon pairs start to overlap in time. For a generated spectral brightness per pump power of up to $2\times 10^{9} \ \textrm{pairs/(s MHz mW)}$ we observe nonclassical correlations at pump p…
