Wavefunctions are proposed for a class of Lagrangian branes in three complex-dimensional space. The branes are asymptotic to Legendrian surfaces of genus g. The expansion of these wavefunctions in appropriate coordinates conjecturally encodes all-genus open Gromov-Witten invariants, i.e. the free energy of the topological open string.
This paper is written in physics language, but tries to welcome mathematicians. Most results stem from joint mathematical works with Linhui Shen and David Treumann.
We formulate a six dimensional $U(1)$ gauge theory compactified on a (two dimensional) sphere $S^2$ with flux and localized brane sources. Profiles of the lowest Kaluza-Klein (KK) wavefunctions and their masses are derived analytically. In contrast to ordinary sphere compactifications, the above setup can lead to the degeneracy of and the sharp localizations of the linearly independent lowest KK modes, depending on the number of branes and their tensions. Moreover, it can naturally accommodate CP violation in Yukawa interactions.
We numerically construct the BPS and non-BPS wavefunctions of an $\mathcal{N}=4$ quiver quantum mechanics with two Abelian nodes and a single arrow. This model captures the dynamics of a pair of wrapped D-branes interacting via a single light string mode. A dimensionless parameter $ν$, which is inversely proportional to the Fayet-Iliopoulos parameter, controls whether the bulk of the wavefunctions are supported on the Higgs branch or the Coulomb branch. We demonstrate how the BPS and excited states morph as $ν$ is tuned. We also numerically compute the energy gap between the ground state and t…
We explore the stability of a recently found class of spinning dielectric M2-branes in the 11-dimensional maximally supersymmetric plane-wave background. We find two small windows of instabilities in the dipole (j=1) and quadrupole (j = 2) sector of linear multipole perturbations.
It is shown that the Dirac-nambu-Goto brane can be described as a point particle in an infinite dimensional brane space with a particular metric. This suggests a generalization to brane spaces with arbitrary metric, including the "flat" metric. Then quantization of such a system is straightforward: it is just like quantization of a bunch of non interacting particles. This leads us to a system of a continuous set of scalar fields. For a particular choice of the metric in the space of fields we find that the classical Dirac-Nambu-Goto brane theory arises as an effective theory of such an underly…
The physical information encoded in the cosmological late-time wavefunction of the universe is tied to its singularity structure and its behaviour as such singularities are approached. One important singularity is identified by the vanishing of the total energy, where the wavefunction reduces to the physics of scattering in flat space. In this paper, we discuss the behaviour of the perturbative wavefunction as its other singularities are approached and the role played by the flat-space scattering, in the simplified context of the class of toy models admitting a first principle definition in te…
Given a class of $q$-local Hamiltonians, is it possible to find a simple variational state whose energy is a finite fraction of the ground state energy in the thermodynamic limit? Whereas product states often provide an affirmative answer in the case of bosonic (or qubit) models, we show that Gaussian states fail dramatically in the fermionic case, like for the Sachdev-Ye-Kitaev (SYK) models. This prompts us to propose a new class of wavefunctions for SYK models inspired by the variational coupled cluster algorithm. We introduce a static ("0+0D") large-$N$ field theory to study the energy, two…
